Ohio News Organization Poll — McCain By Six

This is the fifth poll of the critical battleground state of Ohio (link to US census demographic data) and the fourth to show the trendline in Senator McCain’s direction. Two weeks ago, the Quinnipiac poll showed that Senator Obama had a five point lead and last week, the Survey USA poll had McCain up by four. Today a new poll from the Ohio News Organization (a consortium of Ohio newspapers) shows McCain still holding a moderate lead over Obama in the Buckeye state. The poll has McCain leading 48% to 42%. Four percent expressed a preference for independent candidate Ralph Nader and 1% for Libertarian candidate Bob Barr.

In the battle for Ohio’s 20 electoral votes, Republican presidential nominee John McCain holds a 48-42 percent lead over Democratic opponent Barack Obama — but with lots of time left in a volatile race, according to the first Middletown Journal/Ohio Newspaper Poll.

The poll also surveyed Ohio voters on health care, energy, and their personal financial situations — with nearly half saying they are worse off today than four years ago.

The Ohio News Organization — a cooperative formed this year by the state’s eight largest daily newspapers — commissioned the poll. The Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati, which also runs the Ohio Poll, surveyed 869 likely Ohio voters Sept. 12-16, with an error margin of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

While McCain is in front, the poll showed his margin is less than secure. Four percent favored Independent Party candidate Ralph Nader, 1 percent opted for Libertarian Bob Barr, and 5 percent said they were undecided. In addition, 19 percent said they could change their mind by election day.

“Even though it seems like this presidential race has gone on for an eternity, in many ways, especially in Ohio, it’s just getting started,” said Eric Rademacher, interim co-director of the institute. “When you bring the margin of error into consideration it’s certainly a very close race in the state.”

He said voters are still learning about Obama, which will make the poll volatile through the month of September.

“There is a great deal of potential for change in this race,” Rademacher said. “Almost a quarter of Ohio voters are still looking carefully at the candidates and have yet to make a final vote decision.”

The poll revealed deep dissatisfaction about Ohioans’ personal economic situation: Asked if they are better off, worse off, or the same as four years ago, a slight majority said they were either the same (34 percent) or better off (19 percent), while 47 percent said they were worse off.

Energy policy, health care

The poll also illuminated the difficulties of reaching consensus on energy policy:

– 70 percent agreed that global warming is a proven fact, not an unproven theory. However, fewer than half — 46 percent — blamed man-made emissions.

– 55 percent said investing in alternative energy sources should be the top priority for U.S. energy policy, while 29 percent saw expanded exploration and drilling for oil and natural gas as the top priority.

– 59 percent favored building more nuclear power facilities.

McCain has advocated nuclear plant construction and additional off-shore drilling, while Obama has promised a massive investment in alternative and renewable energy sources.

In response to a question about health care, 65 percent of respondents said they support providing health care for all Americans, even if it means raising taxes.

Views on candidates

Respondents attributed to McCain more than Obama the qualities of “good judgment,” “qualified,” and “higher personal and ethical standards.”

Obama scored better than McCain with likely voters on “personally likeable” and “best understands the problems facing Ohio.”

The poll findings are in line with many other recent polls of the Ohio electorate in giving McCain a slight edge.

The University of Cincinnati’s Ohio Poll conducted one week earlier showed McCain with the same 48 percent support, but had Obama with 44 percent.

Nationally, Obama leads McCain 47-45 percent according to a Zogby International poll out Wednesday, a seven-point reversal from an August Zogby poll that had McCain in the lead. The pollster credits Obama’s national rise in the poll to increasing support from women.

Clarence Martin, 57, of Hillsboro, an employee of a shipping operation in central Ohio that is slated to be shut down soon, said he is backing McCain because he believes keeping taxes low is how to spur investment.

“I’m still on the fence but mostly for McCain,” said Martin. “It just seems like he’s a better choice than Obama at the moment.”

Martin’s employer, ABX Air, contracts with DHL Express, which announced in May it would close the Wilmington Air Park hub, eliminating 8,000 jobs, including Martin’s.

McCain supported DHL’s purchase of the hub and his campaign manager, Rick Davis, lobbied for DHL’s German-based parent firm to purchase the Wilmington business five years ago.

Jean Fleck, 68, of Toledo, who works in a box and container factory, said Obama “seems to give you a sense that he’s for the working people, and we need somebody like that.”

“These people that make all this money don’t realize what everyday life is like, and he gives me the impression he knows what it’s like. He’s just a regular person,” she said.

But Toledo entrepreneur Donnie Stevens, 27, said he supports McCain because, “I like smaller government. I don’t like national health care.”

The self-employed photographer and school maintenance worker predicted McCain will carry Ohio because Ohio voted in 2000 and 2004 for George W. Bush and he said McCain is “10 times” smarter than President Bush.

Andrew Kaminski, 54, of Stow, near Akron, said the abortion issue is a key one for him. “I can’t support Democrats because their platform is not pro-life in any way, shape or form,” Kaminski said.

McCain’s positions on social and moral issues strikes a chord with Deborah McGee, 60, of Southpoint, near Kentucky and West Virginia.

“He is not for same-sex marriage, he is not for abortion. And for me that’s two important things,” McGee said, adding that her husband is a Vietnam veteran — like McCain — and so, “maybe it’s a sentimental factor also.”

Obama has also said he does not support same-sex marriage, but supports civil unions. He supports abortion rights.

Several Obama supporters predicted that the Illinois senator’s race will be an impossible obstacle for many voters. Obama had a black father and a white mother.

“The color of Obama’s skin — he will not carry this area,” said William Nesselrode, 64, of Stockport in Morgan County. He said in his community people who support Obama put their signs in a field, rather than in their yard, apparently out of fear of being affiliated with him.

Obama supporter Elizabeth Snyder, 37, of Greenfield in Highland County, also was pessimistic about Obama’s chances of winning.

“There’s a lot of prejudiced people out there. I’m not one of them. If it’s not a reporter asking the question, they’ll say it’s because of his color,” Snyder said.

She said she tries to correct people when she hears them question Obama’s American nationality, but “you wind up in an argument over it.”

Takeaways
The value add from this poll is the comments of Ohio voters. They reflect that when a voter is ambivalent they tend to go for McCain. The other key takeaway is that this is fourth poll with a moderate but clear McCain trend. While the race remains close for Ohio’s 20 Electoral College vote, Ohio may not be the critical battleground state in 2008 election cycle as it was in 2004. This time around that honour is likely to go to Michigan and Pennsylvania. Other close states right now are Virginia, Colorado and New Mexico.

I’m in Ohio and I guarantee you that by election day it will be wider than six points.

Guys I am worrying about florida, look at the least polls.

  • Steve1

From Day One, I always agreed with Senator Clinton, Mr. Soetoro-Obama is unelectable! Not because of race, because of his positions, he has none! His past associations, ie Wright, Meeks, Ayers, Sinclair….the list goes on, and his corruption and ties with the Chicago cess-pool. Finally, his personality and issues with women. Evidently being abandoned by his mother has created an underlying hate for women.

  • Loveharriet

Do not worry McCain will win in Florida. Hispanics hate Obama mostly because he is black! Hispanic culture believes no one is above them.

  • catherine

Don’t worry about Florida. We’ll come through for McCain.

  • Steve1

Don’t worry, Florida will go Rep. you have the popular governnor, the Hispanic vote will go McCain, the senior vote will not support the phoney messiah and in his face tactics, the Jewish community better wake up-they better realize that they are playing with fire with Mr. Soetoro.

  • Obama: An Ego you can Believe in!

As a Hispanic, I resent that ignorant statement. If you have nothing intelligent or thoughtful to contribute to this blog or conversation, then get lost.

Hispanics are keen at discrening bullshit artistry is all, and we see a major Bullshit Artist in Obama.

  • catherine

What a racist thing to say. Hispanics in Florida don’t like Obama because many of them already have a built-in BS detector for demagogues. They’ve got plenty of experience with the type already.

Don’t pay attention to “loveharriet”‘s race-baiting comments. The Obamamots will use any despicable tactics to try and explain away the unpopularity of their candidate — even if it means pitting American against American.

PS…last night on the PUMA blog talk radio, one of the women said that she had just gotten new poll in from Ohio and that McCain had slipped back about 4 or 5 points…they were saying that there were Obama signs up in places they wouldn’t think they’d be seeing so many….

Did they have the numbers wrong or is there another poll out saying the opposite of this one??

  • Obama: An Ego you can Believe in!

Sure they will. Anything for the Mainstream Media to have a talking point about Obama’s surge due to the “economic crisis”. It is all manipulation on an unprecedented, grand scale.

  • dixie

I’m a racist just like the Clintons, because Obama says so. I’m a racist because I am voting republican this year. I’m a racist because I don’t agree with Obama’s choice of church, friends, and Obama’s attitude toward white people or poor people in general. We are all racists because we think for ourselves and are not anti-American. Having independent thoughts not only makes us racists but even makes us enemies of the state in Obama’s world. Screw Obama and his racist organizations.

For the millionith time I am not a troll, but at least lets keep it real, so we actually can develop a game plan based on REALITY.

All this talk about McCain taking the hispanic vote, and hispanics being able to spot bullshit etc. is FANTASY.

Every poll out there, including the polls that are favorable to McCain show McCain losing the hispanic vote 70/30.

Hispanics are bloc voting for the other “minority candidate”

It is not as bad as the 96/4 margin that blacks are going for Obama, but still 70/30 is pretty bad …

  • Steve1

loveharriet I don’t believe in your statement. Granted there are issues between various racist groups. Hispanics are just as concerned regarding the issues in this election, being AA is not a major one. Mr. Soetoro-Obama’s past associations and his stance regarding abortion may be major resons fro Hispanic mistrust of Mr. Soetoro-Obama.

JM08–try a little research before you unleash the concern-troll speil:
    ———-

There is clearly a steep racial divide among voters, with white voters choosing McCain over Obama 55 to 38 percent, and Obama with a near-lock on black voters, with 92 percent to McCain’s 2 percent. Hispanic voters prefer McCain over Obama 51 to 41 percent.
Of white voters, 47 percent pick McCain to improve the economy and 42 percent pick Obama. Among black voters, 95 percent trust Obama on economic issues while only 2 percent favor McCain. And among Hispanic voters, 47 percent favor McCain to handle the economy while 45 percent pick Obama.

McCain also has more partisan crossover appeal: 16 percent of those who support him are registered Democrats and, among former Hillary Clinton supporters, he draws 17 percent support. Both Conway and Eldon say that the Republican presidential candidate in Florida typically draws at least 15 percent of the Democratic vote. By contrast, 12 percent of Obama’s supporters are registered Republicans. Among voters who register no party affiliation, McCain draws 44 percent to Obama’s 41 percent.

ABX Air is an air cargo services provider operating out of Wilmington, Ohio, and 15 hubs throughout the United States.

In addition to providing airlift capacity and sort facility staffing to DHL, ABX Air is a Part 121 operator and holds a Part 145 FAA Repair certificate. It provides charter, maintenance and package handling services to a diverse group of customers. ABX Air is the largest employer in a several-county area in southwestern Ohio and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group, Inc., (NASDAQ: ATSG).

I haven’t delved deeper but I believe this Wilmington hub was used by Airborne Express before DHL purchased the floundering company. Ergo DHL continued to use it as a hub.

DHL was the premiere International freight carrier at one time. FEDEX and UPS have since taken away a lot of their business shipping overseas. DHL tried to get a foothold in our domestic market. They gambled and lost. They are operating at a loss in the US market.

As for McCain lobbying for the purchase? I see him as trying to keep the jobs those Airborne employees would have lost years ago.

    New troll talking point alert:

I listened to a Clinton delegate yesterday who has now completely drunk the kool aid. Why are people so stupid?

BTW, I have a “We told you so, next time think before you vote” with the o melting bumper sticker on my car and yesterday at the grocery store this elderly woman was walking by, as I was just coming back to my car, and she stopped to study the sticker. She was very disgusted. I continued to my car. She asked what the bumper sticker meant. She didn’t understand it. I told her that it means Obama is a phoney and he is unelectable and the next time the democrats want a President they should consider not to be so afraid of choosing the candidate who can win, instead of tossing her aside for a loser. She said very snotty like, “”Oh, I see. You are one who wants to ruin it for the rest of us.” I said no, the democrats ruined it for all of us. Anyway, this must be a new talking point because the kool aid drinker delegate also said don’t ruin it for the rest of us because you’re pissed off!

Obama is in Tampa at a debate school. The reason for Florida is this. He can keep a high profile in the news and bone his bone head up on questions likely to be asked.

TAMPA, FL — Barack Obama will be returning to the Tampa Bay area next week, a campaign source has told ABC Action News.

Officials within Obama’s campaign confirmed the democratic presidential nominee will be in town to prepare for next Friday’s presidential debate with republican candidate John McCain. The 1st of 3 debates is scheduled for Friday, September 26th at 8 pm at the University of Mississippi.

    Fred McBerfle-

You are the troll, and I have seen your kind before. You go on a site and try to make everyone believe everything is ok, and try to establish this false sense of security, so nobody does anything to help out their candidate.

Your outrage over my comments of Hillary Clinton expose you more than anything else.

First off I am a Republican. Hillary Clintons popularity among republicans is almost non-existent, so why would you think I am a obama troll for simply sharing the point of view that the vast majority of my party holds.

Secondly I did not even say that bad of things about her. I simply said she has shown herself to be nothing more than a typical politician that is more concerned about her own political capital, than the good of her country, and I cited the fact she is campaigning for Obama as evidence.

Thirdly your outrage over my comments towards anybody who supports cynthia mckinney as being a idiot seem to also point to you being a obama troll. I think any sane person can come up with reasons not to support McKinney that have nothing to do with gender. I cited that she picked a “puerto rican hip hop activist” as her running mate. That term was not made up by me, it is on the official green party website.

It seems you are the troll. I am a proud card carrying member of the republican party, and I support the republican, not just because I am pissed that Hillary did not get picked, but because I believe in the republican platform. Ii am far more removed from Obama than you.

I have strongly urged on this site over and over that McCain go nuclear on Obama. You have stated over and over how you feel McCain should treat Obama with kid gloves.

So you tell me who is the troll ?

The Obama Bubble: Why Wall Street Needs a Presidential Brand

Despite Barack Obama’s claim that his campaign represents a mass “movement” of “average folks,” the initial core of his support was largely comprised of rich denizens of Wall Street. Why would the super wealthy want a percieved “black populist” to become the nation’s chief executive officer? The “Obama bubble” was nurtured by Wall Street in order to have a friend in the White House when the captains of capital are made to face the legal consequences for deliberately creating current and past economic “bubbles.” Wall Street desperately needs a president who will “sweep all the corruption and losses, would-be indictments, perp walks and prosecutions under the rug and get on with an unprecedented taxpayer bailout of Wall Street.” Who better to sell this “agenda to the millions of duped mortgage holders and foreclosed homeowners in minority communities across America than our first, beloved, black president of hope and change?”

I started to watch Meat the Press this morning (I turned my back and my daughter changed channels) anyway, they were describing Obama as having momentum because he is ahead of McCain. They bring a whole new definition to the word because the two are in a margin of error dead heat or Obie is only a point or two ahead.
I fully expect the blo-dri brigade to be reporting any uptick Obama has as proof positive he is trouncing McCain.
I don’t expect any honest reporting on the debates either, unless Obama has a nervous fit and pulls a pack of cigarettes and lites one off while stammering a rebuttal, look for the DNA down the leg pundits to give it to Barack.
With the millstone of George Bush around his neck, the media fawning over the Messiah, and the likes of SNL pounding on his V P choice, McCain should be down by 10+ points in any poll today.
Proof that Team Obama can’t get over the finish line without cheating.

95% blacks must trust Obama with the economy just listen to him all he speak about is taking from one source and giving it away to another.

Free this and free that, when he stand there talking that crap they all believe that as a black president he will come and relieve them of all their financial hardships, Obama will now get houses, schools, health care all the things they need and they wont have to pay a dime for it.

This first black president will release blacks from the hardships of living under white rule, that is what they see when they look at Obama, and that is what they are voting for the promise of freeness, not hard work to build themselves nope a government under Obama that will assist them in all their needs.

I am disgusted with your sexist comments about her (and your racist ones about other candidates). If you don’t remember because you were in a drunken stupor, I’ll be glad to find them and repost them for you–of course, I’ll footnote them so as to give you all the credit. Do you really want to go down this path, Goob?

You aren’t a troll? The evidence demonstrates otherwise. Here’s a sample:

    1. You post off-topic
    2. You post flaming comments
    3. You feign concern
    4. You spam the same comments on blog after blog, which takes you back to 1.

BTW: I’m not the only one who feels this way. If you like, I’ll summarize their posts concerning you, too.

It’s amazing how Larry J and Joe Wilson went from darlings of the Great Cheetoh to pariah when they questioned the Great One’s background and stuck up for Hillary.

Sorry – OT… But this is good article and needs your donation. Even a small one would help.

A Call For Hearings Into Senator Barack Obama’s Violation Of The Logan Act
Write a Letter to Congress : 5,538 Letters Sent So Far
We demand that Congress open hearings on Senator Barack Obama’s potential violations of the Logan Act.

On at least two separate occasions, as documented by NBC and The New York Post, Senator Barack Obama has attempted to negotiate a delay to U.S. negotiations with Iraq until after the elections.

We feel this is an egregious abuse of his position and in violation of the Logan Act, which by historical judicial interpretation prevents anyone, including members of Congress, from interfering with U.S. negotiations.

Note: use the “send for free” option.

Thanks to Denise for starting this. Please cut and paste this into emails and get it out. The number on Friday was under 3,000. Since I started typing this in it has risen 9 in the last few minutes.

Let them keep it up. It helps Republicans rally their base to vote. Dummycrats, believing this crap, will assume that someone else is voting. That is how it happens every year … Kerry in Ohio, anyone?

In that Ohio poll, did hat 98% voting for zeromama not jump out at you? Then go and see how many of those people think he is qualified …. it is a shame and a SHAM.

    Thanks for the updates Charles!
The first thing that stands out for me…one quarter of Ohio voters are still UNDECIDED?
Unless this is fall-out from Clinton’s win, and many of her supporters there left hung out to dry, that information is surprising!
Most voters should at least have an inkling by now…after all this campaign has gone on for ten or fifteen years right?

    OT But important

Exclusive: Foreign banks may get help
By MIKE ALLEN | 9/21/08 7:24 AM EDT
    Text Size:

In a change from the original proposal sent to Capitol Hill, foreign-based banks with big U.S. operations could qualify for the Treasury Department’s mortgage bailout, according to the fine print of an administration statement Saturday night.

The theory, according to a participant in the negotiations, is that if the goal is to solve a liquidity crisis, it makes no sense to exclude banks that do a lot of lending in the United States.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson confirmed the change on ABC’s “This Week,” telling George Stephanopoulos that coverage of foreign-based banks is “a distinction without a difference to the American people.”

“If a financial institution has business operations in the United States, hires people in the United States, if they are clogged with illiquid assets, they have the same impact on the American people as any other institution,” Paulson said.

“That’s a distinction without a difference to the American people. The key here is protecting the system. … We have a global financial system, and we are talking very aggressively with other countries around the world and encouraging them to do similar things, and I believe a number of them will. But, remember, this is about protecting the American people and protecting the taxpayers. and the American people don’t care who owns the financial institution. If the financial institution in this country has problems, it’ll have the same impact whether it’s the U.S. or foreign.”

The legislative outline that went to Capitol Hill at 1:30 a.m. Saturday had said that an eligible financial institution had to have “its headquarters in the United States.” That would exclude foreign-based institutions with big U.S. operations, such as Barclays, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland and UBS. The theory, according to a participant in the negotiations, is that if the goal is to solve a liquidity crisis, it makes no sense to exclude banks that do a lot of lending in the United States.

But a Treasury “Fact Sheet” released at 7:15 Saturday night sought to give the administration more flexibility, with an expanded definition that could include all of those banks: “Participating financial institutions must have significant operations in the U.S., unless the Secretary makes a determination, in consultation with the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, that broader eligibility is necessary to effectively stabilize financial markets.”

The paid troll’s control the comment sections of CNN and MSNBC. With the compliant help from the management of these stations, it is difficult to get any anti Obama comments posted. You either go to moderation, to never again see the light of day, sometimes while you are typing in your comments, your screen just goes blank and or they close the comment section. Just as soon as any article is posted the trolls will flood the comment section, with either praise or vile attacks based on the nature of the article. I have never in my life been so fed up with the news media and that includes the newspapers as well

Maybe if Ariana Huffington would have been an honest woman, her husband wouldn’t have left her for another man. That is how disgusting she must be. Another man? Jm08- that is fine that you are a republican and you are stating your facts. But, do remember we are not bashing Bush on this blog. Which by the way is respect from us. So, the person who is telling you to keep your remarks about Hillary is just telling you to keep them to yourself. Such as I have in prior comments. Nobody that is an ex-hillary supporter here has bashed President Bush out of respect for the republicans on this blog- do the same for the democrats on this blog. That is all we are saying. If someone called you a troll- well..you have every right to defend yourself- but lay off Hillary. The reason we are all here is for our country’s best choice. And, if you just want to come here and bother the ex-hillary supporters- you are not accomplishing your mission- we are still going to vote Mccain/Palin- because we love our country not Bush or Obama.

  • hootnannie

Anything new that voters find out about Bobo will, of necessity, be bad. I would bet that his standing even among black people has significantly fallen. (Didn’t the SC poll quoted here give him just 84%, as opposed to the 90′s most would have guessed?) But even if he got every black vote in every state, that and a small number of O-bot youths and liberals won’t carry anything but DC and maybe Jojo’s DE or a few other small NE states (if that!) Russia’ saber-rattling and the iffy world markets won’t make most people want to trust a prissy dandy when a proven military and political warrior is the other choice. Ohio? Forget that, Bobo. All the gun-totin’, Bible-clutchin’ hillbillies aren’t over the border in WV, KY, and IN!

Don’t know where you heard or made it up, but Puma would not boycott this blog- this is the only blog that understands our feelings. I think that is another rumor like the one that is going around about Palin and her daughter. Just rumors. Puma should be glad that this blog is one of the most popular blogs in the Internet that express their feeling. Period! Now, the race factor is spinning in every station. I was very disgusted with anchor guy on Fox yesterday in mid-afternoon who got into a fight with Mccain’s campaign manager about the economy and they made remarks with their faces after she was off the air. Before he introduce her, he referred Obama as President Obama instead of Senator Obama. This guy is an Obama bais guy and Fox should fire his ass. This station is the ONLY station that is fair and balance and this guy was disrespect to Mccain’s camp and to the viewers. It is a good thing the long black haired girl changed the subject to Palin right away. Because she noticed it was caught on camera.

tzada — I hear Obama is going to spend 39 Million in Florida. When this debacle is over and McCain is our President we need to take this kind of money out of our political system. Never has so much been spent on someone worth so little.

  • mcpalin hill

fred — the tracking poll is ridiculous. It means nothing. Its about likely voters in specific states now. They just put these numbers out there to make it look like they are tied. I notice Obama is always leading by 1%. Remember the Bradley Factor — Obama needs to be leading by at least 6% everywhere or he is toast.

dixie — Did Obama think about ordinary Americans when he introduced himself as the Senator from Illinois and told major lobbiests that he would do their bidding? Obama is not OF, BY, or FOR the people — Obama is only for himself and has gamed the system by hanging with those who shell out the big bucks.

If we take the money out of politics we might get representatives who do the bidding of the American people for a change. There are lessons to be learned from the Obama debacle — if we do not pay attention — another Obama type charlaton is always waiting in the wings.

I am from Florida- have lived over 25 years here. The scope is this- 4500 went to Obama’s rally. A group of African American holy rollers tried to protest at the rall in Coral Gables. They were escorted out. This holy roller group believe Oprah is the evil woman that is predicted in the Revelation and gives power to the False Prophet. Anyway, they had their say and was thrown out. But, since I am from Florida, I can tell you that Coral Gables is majority Latino- and 4500 is nothing compares to the 200,000 or more that reside there. Secondly, he does not have the Jews (as many media people try to tell you) Boca Raton. Palms Beaches, Broward and the cities in the north of Florida are RED – the only advantage was Miami- and the cubans are voting Republican. The media is not telling you the truth- Florida has Mccain in the internal polls high and winning.

  • Ferd McBerfle

I was only responding to Cindie and her concerns, since there are many Concern Trolls and lurkers spreading diversionary and erroneous information. If I offended you, I am sorry for that was not my intent. In the interest of precluding future misunderstandings, I will add the poster’s name to whom I am referring.

  • mcpalin hill

Mr. Mike — they keep quoting tracking polls. These mean nothing. With 45 days to go its about individual state polls of likely voters.

Besides if Obama is dead even with McCain he will lose — he needs 6% more than McCain to break even because of the Bradley effect.

I resent that comment. Latinos do not believe that at all. Many latinos have strong African DNA. If anything, AAs can be abusive in their attitudes toward latinos.

Here in NY, latinos supported the first black mayor in his first run, they withheld it in his re-election bid, where they split. Latinos will give AA candidates a chance if they relate to them. But 0bama’s not doing that. Like the blue collar, women voters, he’s looking his nose down on this important voting bloc. He believes that latinos should cut him the same break that AAs have.

    Ain’t gonna happen!

He has to really speak to the latino community. But he won’t. He doesn’t feel as if they are worth it.

And guess what? Latinos know this and will vote McCain.

I think Hispanics hold different views of blacks depending on what part of the country you come from.

I am a Hispanic raised in San Diego and I can tell you my extended family are all racists. My family line is very light skinned because of lots of Spanish blood (grandfather-blond hair, blue eyed, mom blue eyes) but ALL of my relatives, including those in other states do not like anyone who has darker skin than they do. They even discriminate against Mexicans that are darker than they are.

My parents are not Catholics, unlike the rest of the extended family, and my parents never espoused racism. I have two sisters and none of the three of us girls are racists and we are all liberals.

BUT what I am telling you is the truth. The rest of my extended family (I went to a family reunion early last year in Texas and there are about 125) are all hard core, can’t stand black people Hispanics. I grew up in a white neighborhood as my parents were well to do but I worked with educated Mexican women who were racist so in my opionion, YES there are certain sects of Hispanics that absolutely do not like black people. As a whole culture I do not know but from my experience in life, YES.

I live in Northern California (12 miles west of UC Davis) and talked to a guy yesterday at our local grocery store who was born and raised in Davis and is a Democrat – said he’s voting for McCain/Palin.
