Does Anyone Else Find This Ironic? *Updated*

Yes, yes, more about the whole mosque thing in New York, though this is about a different aspect of it. And that would be our First Amendment right to free speech.

Remember how Obama went on and on about the mosque-builders and freedom of religion, as if this had anything whatsoever to do with freedom of religion? I know, I know, how could anyone forget THAT little debacle.

But get this. Now the concern is about those of us who are speaking OUT about building the mosque near Ground Zero are inciting terrorists. Yes, if we have the audacity to be upset that Imam Rauf wants to build his cultural center and mosque at a site he picked SOLELY for its proximity to Ground Zero and as a site that was hit by part of the jet that disintegrated flying into the Twin Towers, we are empowering the terrorists.

Oh, how I wish I was making this up, but it was reported by no less than NPR in this piece by Dina Temple-Raston, “Rancor Over Mosque Could Fuel Islamic Extremists.” Oh, oh – someone didn’t get the memo that we don’t use that term anymore – “Islamic Extremists.” What, are they bigots or something? Ahem. Anyway, yes, by us utilizing our Constitutional Right Of Free Speech, we are giving ammunition to the Islamic Extremists who want to do us harm, according to this article:

Experts worry the controversy surrounding an Islamic center near ground zero in Lower Manhattan is playing right into the hands of radical extremists.

The supercharged debate over the proposed center has attracted the attention of a quiet, underground audience — young Muslims who drift in and out of jihadi chat rooms and frequent radical Islamic sites on the Web. It has become the No. 1 topic of discussion in recent days and proof positive, according to some of the posted messages, that America is indeed at war with Islam.

“This, unfortunately, is playing right into their hands,” said Evan F. Kohlmann, who tracks these kinds of websites and chat rooms for Flashpoint Global partners, a New York-based security firm. “Extremists are encouraging all this, with glee.

“It is their sense that by doing this that Americans are going to alienate American Muslims to the point where even relatively moderate Muslims are going to be pushed into joining extremist movements like al-Qaida. They couldn’t be happier.”

Ah, yes. It is all our fault that we want just a little sensitivity from this Muslim cleric. How dare we. (And if you want to read the rest of the NPR piece, click HERE.)

Hmmm – what does it say that there is a concern that even “moderate Muslims” in the US, because people are asking for sensitivity, not a pox on all things Islamic, could be coerced into acting against the country in which they live? I can’t decide if that is a backhanded slap against moderate Muslims that they could so easily be pushed, or an attempt to silence critics in general.

But here’s a little newsflash: We don’t have to do a damn thing but be Americans to incite these Islamic Extremists. I’m serious. All we have to do is be who we are, and that is sufficient. Remember the first WTC bombing in 1993? I don’t recall anyone going out of their way trash-talking Islam to incite that event. Remember 9/11? The WTC, the Pentagon, and whatever the target was of the plane that was wrested away from the terrorists and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania? Was anyone going out of their way to talk smack about Islam? No, I don’t think so. How about the bombing of the USS Cole in 2000?

If you want to get an idea of how much Islamic terrorists have wanted to attack us for a period less than a decade, click here to read a statement to the Joint Chiefs from 2002 listing the numerous terrorist attempts on the US or our territories. That is just from 2/93 – 9/01.

Unfortunately, I could go on and on and on. No amount of political correctness, or respect for Islam in general, can negate the reality that there are Islamic radicals who want to attack Americans here and abroad. And if we stop exercising our rights as American citizens to try and pacify them, to not raise their ire against us, then THEY HAVE WON.

If that is the case, then all of those who died in the attacks on the US Embassies, those 17 sailors who died on board the USS Cole, and the thousands who died on 9/11, did so in vain. And that cannot stand.

We cannot allow the threat of more violence to silence us, whatever the issue is. We cannot be coerced to give up our Constitutional rights on the possibility that our fulfillment of these same rights might feel antagonistic to those who wish us harm. We cannot stop being Americans lest we somehow, whether consciously or not, enrage a group by our sheer existence.

Can we?

*Update* Check out this interview of Andrea Mitchell and Ambassador Ahmed. Apparently, what we should be concerned about is how those of us who oppose the mosque in that location are going to impact President Obama’s desire to reach out to the Muslim World. Oh, wow…

  • Katmoon

Well, what to say. I don’t think we are going to dissapear, and being quiet, isn’t going to happen. So let me get this right, if we are further attacked, again, once again targeted as victims it is our fault, because we don not like this building being built where it is proposed? One more, INTIMIDATION..that is what is it.It has an order to it.

    1. Target a specific group of people for what they look like, who they are how they live etc.(feel free to replace with historical examples, such as, women, children, Native peoples, slaves, Jews, gays, you get the idea).

    2. Convince all other groups that any resistant reaction by the targeted group is not acceptable because it is against the new “norm”. Use tactics such as race baiting, divide and conquer, pit other groups against the target.

    3. Try to cause dissention within the target group itself. Makeup sensational stories about the group, distasteful, taboo type stories.

    4. Minimize the intellect of the group, thus dehumanizing them, making it easy to attack the group, as it will help them become more  civilized.

    5. Finally threaten the group, by any and all means possible. It is only a building after all, it is only one issue one cause is it worth losing ___(fill in the blank) over.

No thanks, I would rather be called names, threatened, made fun of, ostracized, abandoned, and jailed. This is a line in the sand moment. What strikes me as sickening is that any one American would let another be threatened by outside interests. But, hey we live in the its all about “me” world, where few would stand tall together, to protect anothers rights to speak out against something that is not welcomed by the American people. It isn’t a PC issue, its a popularity contest, and the slaves to be liked will gladly hand over their freedom to speak and think for themselves than to be at odds with the group. What will be the results if people keep this up…See number 1, remember history, never ever forget what did happen and can happen again.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I saw that, Hank.  I cannot believe it.  That’s like Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize right after he got into the White House (and was nominated literally days after the coronation).  WTH is wrong with these people??  Sigh.

Are we sure we’re not just characters in a really, really bad movie or something?  This is all so unreal, starting with some nobody nothing little Senator from IL even running for POTUS, let alone “winning” (while we lost).  We’re really on candid camera and it’s really late 2007 and it’s really just all a nightmare, right?  Just say it is so I can sleep tonight.

  • felizarte

Yes, Patience.  First they want to con/sweet-talk you.  When that does not do the job, they try intimidation.  So are they saying, they are now going to try another 9/11 kind of attack!  They have so far, just managed to show the majority of Americans their true colors/intent, the ugly side of things.  Perhaps it’s also about time for the majority of the Americans what we’re like.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Oh, csuzeq, if ONLY that was the case…That we were all having a collective bad dream from which we were going to awak at any moment…

I see. So if I defend my property against those who would take it, I am actually inciting them to take it.

OK. So then, when they come to take it, I will stop them. It isn’t theirs and they have no right to it. And if those who would come to my property and try to take it end up dead, that was their poor choice.

    End of discussion.

How on earth the Muslims can compel the endemic Americans to comply with their Sharia Law?

They should build the Mosque at Ground Zero in the desert, just pick a location!

  • Kim

If they do build this mosque it is going to attract every Muslim extremist nutjob.  I actually think that if it were possible for them to buid it right on Ground Zero they would  Throughout history they destroyed churches, temples and other places of worship and built mosques in their place.  I see this as the same kind of thing.

I sense a growing sentiment in America that the media-popular idea that we must be “sensitive” to everyone else’s “concerns”while our own concerns can be cavalierly  dismissed is about to blowback with considerable force on those who embrace this philosophy.  Americans are tired of having to patronize everyone else out of some misguided sense of political correctness and seemingly pathological need to appease those who have attacked us on the brt of our political leadership.
I say, quietly and deliberately, to our enemies–and their fellow travelers in the  “elite meadia”–please back off.  Americans are starting to wake up, take notice, become informed and take names.  Because we are circumspect, we have delayed kicking ass until we know which asses should rigtfullly be kicked.  But we will get around to it, and when we do, if you’tr on the list, it is going to be one unpleasant experience.
For the American fellow travelers, particulaly in politics and in the media: those smug looks are going to disappear when you find yourself out of office in the next couple of elections or out of a job and off the air because of liw ratings and loss of advertising revenue.
For radical terrorists: you would be wise not to try our current patience too much further.  We have been playing politically correct softball so far, but if we get any more upset, we have both the people and the resources to play some very unpleasant hardball, military and otherwise, indeed.

Yeah, we could see that argument coming.  It’s silly.  Someone becomes a suicide bomber because we oppose the Mosque?  Drone attacks, military occupation, civilian casualties, shock and awe, Gaza blockade, Abu Ghraib, yes.  But Bin Laden would look ridiculous, calling out a fatwa because we moved the Mosque 10 blocks.

Anyway, it’s the opponents of a peaceful compromise who keep repeating ‘we blame all Muslims for 9/11′.  Supporters of a peaceful relocation don’t say that.   It’s the journolist/professional leftist types who keep trying to inflame Muslims.  Wow, that Journolist brain rot is really seeping in deep.

Now what ‘Daisy Khan’ and CAIR may hope for, is if something terrible happens at the Mosque.  CAIR/Hamas may hope that Muslims get hurt there — which is why they refuse to relocate.  Islamic Radicals may destroy the Mosque to foment violence.  Isn’t this how ‘Al Qaeda in Iraq’ operated?

I don’t know…. why don’t we just ask Jimmy Carter what to do and be done with it? I was in high school and I remember the hostage crisis. Jimmy (please don’t hurt our hostages) Carter sat… and sat as those people spent a year blindfolded and tied. He did send in a botched rescue mission… in which we defeated ourselves. Carter was pathetic. Reagan said he would rescue the hostages. Iran believed him as they released the hostages as Reagan was being sworn in. They wanted no tangle with Reagan. Which brings me to the point. This culture respects power. Power is the authority. We might have thought here that shock and awe was a dumbass thing to do, but I am sure as hell that these radicals remember it well. They know Obama is another Jimmy Carter. Say what you will about Bush… these people wanted no tangle with him either. There is something to be said for that when dealing with a medieval cultural mindset. We have tried nice… it’s about time we tried reality.

  • Onofre’s arm

Katmoon, the mosque debacle may be a catalyst for many people to finally come to some important conclusions, and compel people like you and me to “draw lines in the sand”. It’s about time.

9/11 and Pearl harbor have been compared to each other, and rightfully so. However, the conclusions and impressions that people walked away with from both of these events are remarkably different. After Pearl Harbor, our course was clear and unified; declare war on the axis powers! With 9/11 our course wasn’t so clear, and as a nation, for the last 9 years we’ve behaved as bewildered as the dust covered, shock stricken souls who emerged from the debris cloud of the collapsed Twin Towers. It’s time to wipe the dust from our eyes. Islam is at war with all of the world that is not Islam.

When Jesus wisely said, “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”, he was making the distinction between the secular governmental administration of civilization through laws and statutes, and the otherworldly realm of our spiritual lives. Jesus recognized that a division between the secular and the spiritual aspects of men’s lives was not only acceptable, it was perhaps preferable. The establishment clause in our Constitution reaffirms this important concept, and it reveals again the extent of the genius of our founders. Most of us have been raised to almost instinctually accept this concept, so it’s difficult to understand a different way of looking at the relationship between government and religion. Islam is very different. there is no division between governance and spiritual guidance, they are one and the same. Islam not only mandates how it’s followers shall worship their God and all of the associated dogma, but it also strictly dictates every aspect of their daily lives. The Qur’an is not only the Bible to Muslims, it’s also their Constitution! And in order to be a true Muslim, even a so-called “moderate” Muslim, they are essentially required to submit to a blood oath to their faith, and it’s an oath that makes all other oaths inoperative, even an oath to uphold OUR Constitution, as many Muslims who serve in our military have made. Taqiyya allows Muslims to lie and deceive in the name of Allah, so how can a faithful Muslim be believed when he makes an oath to uphold our Constitution? When there is a conflict between the Qur’an and the Constitution, and there are MANY, where will the faithful Muslim’s loyalties fall? Again, as Jesus said, you can’t serve two masters.

Since Islam is much more than a religion, a type of government as well, and since it has it’s own set of laws (Sharia) that deal with all aspects of it’s followers lives from cradle to grave, then it is not much of a stretch to view Islam and it’s followers as a nation without geographical borders. And since it is the vowed intent of Islam to bring the entire human race under it’s control, we should consider 9/11 to be the opening salvo by the Nation of Islam in it’s war with America. It is obvious that Islam’s followers who are all members of this nation should be considered to be citizens of the Nation of Islam, no matter where they live. So, unless individual Muslims renounce Islam in favor of the Constitution, they could be considered to be loyal citizens of the enemy country.

It is certain that not all Japanese, Germans, and Italians were in league with the intents of their leaders. I’m sure that not many of the people in Japan knew of the planned attack on Pearl Harbor, and there may have been many in Japan who didn’t appreciate the imperialistic plans of their Emperor, but they were still Japanese. When FDR declared war, he didn’t restrict his planned hostilities to deal strictly with the individuals who planned the PH attack, and he didn’t declare war on just the Nazis or solely on the more radical elements who lived within the Axis countries who were causing all of the trouble. He declared war on entire countries. How ridiculous would it have been if FDR just declared war on the specific individuals who planned and performed the Pearl Harbor attack? Yet, that’s almost what we did after 9/11, we just offered war upon the most radical elements within Islam, even though it was quite clear that there was an overwhelming support from the Islamic world for the 9/11 attacks. War should have been declared against the entire Nation of Islam, period. And unless there is a recognition of our enemy, and a unified war is waged against it, then it will soon be too late to address it.

    Ah, movies.
If you weren’t in the business during the nineties you weren’t aware of the Arab pressure groups complaining that every time a movie came out the terrorists were always Arabs.
This resulted in weird acrobatics where writers had to bring back the old favorite Nazis as the bad guys or create strange middle european villains with unclear backgrounds and motives.
After 911 the Arab pressure groups were silenced but I’m expecting them to be back again any day now.

Now it becomes the fault of every American who uses their freedom of speech if the terrorists get mad at us?  What?  They hate Americans, understand?  They hate all non Muslims.  It is also part of their so-called religion to lie to non Muslims in order to get what they want.  You will never get the truth out of them.  The end justifies the means.  There will never be a mosque at ground zero, never. WE THE PEOPLE will see to that.  We can use what is written in our Constitution to protect ourselves from the likes of Muslim terrorists and our own president.

Obama Hauls Arizona Before the UN Human Rights Council

Apparently Barack Obama is not content to make a federal case out of his immigration feud with Arizona; he just made it an international one.
The president’s first-ever report on U.S. human rights to the UN Human Rights Council contains a rich vein of offensive material. So far, one aspect has not been reported: our petty president used the situation to bash Arizona’s immigration law — and possibly transfer jurisdiction over the law from Arizona to the UN. Throughout the report, which sounds like an Obama campaign speech, the president discusses “the original flaw” of the U.S. Constitution, America’s tolerance for slavery, and his version of our long and despicable history of discriminating against and oppressing minorities, women, homosexuals, and the handicapped. After each complaint, he addresses how he is delivering us from ourselves, patting himself on the back for such initiatives as ending “torture,” promoting Affirmative Action, and passing health care legislation.

Ellen, most of us don’t live in the vacuum that you seem to assume that we do.

This is the second extremely elitist statement you’ve made today, earlier you arrogantly stated that you were the first to remark about the 578 million dollar school, when I had brought the subject up on an open thread more than a day ahead of you.

For the last twenty years, many of us lowly proletariat types have been well aware of Hollywood’s cowardly position regarding the realities of Islamic atrocities and general Muslim mayhem. Yes Ellen, even some of the dimmest among the denizens of flyover country can recognize the awkward re-wrights of Hollywussy writers in their pathetic attempts to demonize anyone besides Muslims, even though the core story was obviously based upon Muslim bad guys. “The Sum of All Fears” comes to mind, where evil Serbs were substituted in the film version of2002 for the Palestinian terrorists that author Tom Clancy wrote about in his 1991 novel.

Ellen, there’s a big world outside of Hollywood, and most of us live in that world. It might come as quite a surprise to you, but not all of us are stupid, blind, deaf, and ignorant, regardless of the fact that Hollywood seems to intentionally target that audience. In fact, judging by the output of Hollywood actors, writers, producers, and directors, I could easily argue that the average intelligence in southern California could be significantly lower than that of Topeka Kansas, since I haven’t heard of $578,000,000 grade schools being built in Kansas.

Yes, I have been hearing this insane drivel, i.e., speaking out against the Mosque is inciting Islamic Extremists.

So the message we are supposed to send, I guess, is that we should STFU because we are afraid of retaliation from the terrorists.

We are between a rock and a hard place: If we speak up, it’s our fault if the extremists fly another plan into a NYC skyscraper.

If we don’t speak up, then we allow the terrorist to metaphorically give us the middle finger by building the Mosque at this particular location. Talk about a lose-lose situation.

Muslims have freedom of religion but apparently, us non-Muslims don’t have freedom of speech….Once again, Alice travels through the looking glass…..

The American left is in fallback mode. Despite their best efforts, they have been unable to convince the overwhelming majority of Americans that we are Islamo-phobic, anti-Constitutional bigots for daring to oppose the Ground Zero mosque. The reason for this failure is stunningly simple: because we’re not. Americans are quite clear on the difference between Constitutional rights and the appalling lack of respect demonstrated by the project’s leader, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. That would be “moderate Muslim” Feisal Abdul Rauf, right? Wrong.

As United Airlines flight 93 dove toward the ground on September 11, 2001, the hijackers piloting the plane could be heard shouting “Allahu Akbar.” In 2004, as other Muslim terrorists beheaded American Nick Berg, shouts of “Allahu Akbar” accompanied the sawing at his neck. And just before Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire on soldiers at Fort Hood, Tex., in 2009, witnesses say he shouted “Allahu Akbar” as well. “Allahu Akbar” is normally translated as an exclamation of the greatness of Allah. If you see a pattern in the type of people who use this phrase….

    Original Article

Among the prime planners of a $100 million Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero, it’s not just Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf who is visiting the Middle East this summer at U.S. taxpayer expense. The State Department is also about to send Rauf’s wife and Cordoba Initiative fellow director, Daisy Khan, on her own taxpayer-funded “public diplomacy” trip to the United Arab Emirates. Khan is scheduled to visit the UAE from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, overlapping there with Rauf, for whom it will be the final leg of a three-country trip including Bahrain and Qatar.

Someone needs to make a movie about 9/11. Follow the day from getting up and going to work for several of the people who died in the towers, a man in banking with a family, a woman in business with a family, a custodian, a receptionist, a couple of firefighters, and a cop or two. Then follow the terrorists as they board the plane, hijack it and fly it into the buildings. Film the collapse from the inside, watching all the people trying to get out and not making it. And the people trapped who had to decide between falling and dying and burning to death. It would be horrific and tragic, but it would send a message to the Muslim world that we have not forgotten what happened and don’t mind telling the rest of the world about it, in living, burning, bleeding color and 3-D for those who can stomach it.

  • FLDemFem

Quite true, OA, but..and it’s a big BUT..do you imagine that the US would declare war on the fount of Islam, Saudi Arabia?? They are the funders for all of this, no question. Their “charities” funded the 9/11 hijackers and most of the other terrorist activities. They funnel it through other sources, but the primary source of funding for terrorism is Saudi money. Ironic that they got most of it from us for their oil.

  • FLDemFem

Ferd, and we would use the neutron bomb, so that in 50 years, the holy cities of Saudi Arabia, Mecca and Medina, would be prime real estate for infidels. We could build cathedrals and synagogues for all the other faiths on their “holy” ground. No Muslims allowed, if there are any left.

I thought about Saudi Arabia when I wrote this FLDemFem. Saudi and the other Muslim countries that are our so-called friends, are only friends of convenience. There is a civil war raging within the Nation of Islam, the many different sects are slitting each other’s throats when they’re not killing infidels. The House of Saud, and several other groups within Islam, are strategically using the muscle of The Great Satan to assist them with their internal conflict, much the same as Iran is using Russia. However, you can be sure that the moment the Nation of Islam settles it’s civil war, they will all turn their blades outward, and even previous allies will be fair game if they haven’t converted to Islam.

To address the main thrust of your comment, I would have to say yes, if war were to be declared against Islam, it would have to include Saudi Arabia. They are not our friends anyway, just as Stalin was never our friend even though the USSR was our strategic ally in WW II. And strategically speaking, vaporizing Mecca and Medina would bring a swift conclusion to a war with Islam, because Muslims world wide would be compelled to admit that their God was not Greater, and that Mohammed was a false prophet.

I have a suggestion on how to free ourselves of the oil connection to Saudi Arabia and the rest of the ME. Hydrogen and natural gas. There is enough gas under West Virginia alone to fuel America for at least 200 years. Cars and heating included. The Schwann’s trucks that sell frozen food up north run on LP gas. So you can run cars and trucks on it. And the nuclear power plants that the Japanese sell, in various sizes for various size communities, produce hydrogen as a byproduct. They are safe, enclosed and sealed, not dependent on cooling rods, etc. like the big ones such as 3 Mile Island, etc. One of the small ones from Mitsubishi Nuclear will provide power for 30,000 people for 30 years. The bigger ones will do it for more people for the same length of time. We can cut the Saudis out of the energy picture completely, without too much disruption to our way of life. AND it would clean up the environment too, by not having gas and diesel fumes all over the place. Hydrogen burns clean and so does natural gas. Natural gas can be burned right out of the ground if you use the right valves on the burners. All you need to do is add the stinky stuff so you know when there is a leak. Easy as pie.

  • FLDemFem

Don’t they have noise pollution laws in CA?? And public nuisance laws? I would look into that for the prayer calls. No one has the right to inflict that sort of thing on non-Muslims, even in America. I have heard of cases where churches had to stop ringing bells due to nuisance and noise pollution complaints. They only rang on Sundays and holy days, not every day, five times a day.

    -

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.

The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.

A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.

Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.

No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

    – Sir Winston Churchill (The River War, first edition, Vol. II, pages 248-50 [London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1899]).

  • justanotherhillbilly

Just as not all speech is a guarantee. Especially if it promotes violence. So goes freedom of religion. If the fact that it is going to be THE place to study Sharia Law isn’t enough, then the name “Cordoba” should be.

  • sharon

One of the few sites taking a reasonable stance on this. I just got snarked over The Confluence, where they’re busy defending the mosque. They used to be so good. What happened? One can’t help wondering would they be so quick to defend if a Mormon temple were to be erected, or some fundamentalist wing of David Duke Southern church wanted to establish a cultural center there? I think not. Therefore, this is only about repressing others in the name of political correctness, moral superiority.
