Labor Day Celebration *Open Thread*

I hope everyone is having a good day today. If you are with family and friends, I trust you are having a lovely day. If you are traveling, stay safe. And if you are working, well, sorry!

I have a few tunes for you for the day. First up, the Judds back in the day:

Any Labor Day music selection must include this classic by Dolly Parton:

And just because it is a freaking awesome song by Carly Simon, “Let The River Run” from the movie, “Working Girl”:

Have a great day, friends!

Holy fucking hell! I just lay my weary head down to try to get rid of a migraine. I flip on the TeeVee. What do I see before my eyes? The spots of scotoma, signifying the onset of a migraine?

No – something more horrible. Obama is giving another fucking speech. He looks like he’s holding a statue of Mickey Mouse …. Cheeze and crackers, I’m hallucinating … no, it’s a wierd double-headed microphone that looks like Mickey Mouse.

And Obama is stealing all his new shit from the opposition!

Mother fucker. That bastard. He talks about the importance of values, responsibility and a strong middle class! Maybe Sarah Palin is really and truly living rent free in Obama’s head, cuz he sure sounds like her.

Damn, there must be some drugs in this house somewhere. Score! I find one Fiorocet in the medicine cabinet. I chew the whole pill and swallow it without water cuz Obama’s voice is making my head scream in pain.

Oh, dammit. Now he’s talking about health care …

    Make it stop …..

  • arabella trefoil

I took the GRE Saturday and am still recovering from the experience of being finger-printed, videotaped, made to pull my pockets inside out and not even being allowed to take a Kleenex into the test room. So sorry, I’m still all hyped up.

The migraine came, and then Obama came, and thank bloody hell I had an old Fiorocet lying around. Obama has no shame.

Am I haveing a nervous breakdown, or are the rest of you seeing this too.

    Oh. OOooooo. This is bad.

  • sowsear

Iranian woman to be stoned soon, says lawyer.
Probably right after her 90 lashes for being photographed without her veil. Son says picture is not of her.

Now he’s talking about how the Republicans just say no to everything. “If I said there were fish in the sea, they’d say no.”

Now he’s goin’ all preacherman cadence. The union audience is rockin’ with it.

Obama is talkin’ about the jobs of the teachers nurses being taken away.

“Republicans are running on no we can’t!”

Obama keeps falling off cadence. He’s stuttering. He was trying to talk about “A a a a  fi fireman man savin’ savin’ someone from a a a burnin’ buildin’”

“They wanna cut workin’ folks loose what it really boil down to is if you can’t find a job what that mean” (note dialect – what it boil down to.)

Kid standing in back of Obama is bored to death. Goofy looking white guy behind Obama is smiling like a fool. Big black guy behine obama looks menacing.

Obama is gettting very carried away “they figure you gonna come dowm with amnesia between now and November. They push the car in the ditch and they sippin on a slurpee while we tryin to push the car outta the ditch.”

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, who is more whacked out on drugs right now? Arabella Trefoil, or Barack Obama?

Read my post, watch Obama and you decide.

  • arabella trefoil

    msnbc union rally in milwaukee

Please watch it for yourselves. I put my faith in the wisdom and judgement of the readers of NQ. I ask that you find that Barack Obama is more whacked out on drugs at this moment than Arabella Trefoil is. The thing, ladies and gentleman, speaks for itself.

    I thank you.

He just stopped talking. I thank God.

That One’s “speech” had the intellectual content of that of a carnival side-show barker.

    Drum-roll please:

And now, the man… eating chicken!

Obama’s ode to his handlers, Soros and thr Progressives:

Sadly, Soros et al are lousy puppeteers because they are oblivious to the needs and desires of their audience, and they’re at an even greater loss when it comes to substantially addressing those needs and wants.

  • Ferd Premium Saltine Berfle

Yeah, OA, Soros and his minions are completely out of sync with average Americans. He may as well be an alien from several light years away for all he knows about the average person. And his minions are just morons that will believe anything they’re paid to believe.

    hear, hear!” Ferd my friend.

Arabella, I made a pact with Mrs. Seymour last night and that is, I will no longer direct my senses to any entity or situation that lies, deceives, patronizes or demeans our country or that of my citizen Brothers and Sisters. I have had more than my fill and I just won’t participate in the now minority game of charades. I could lift off my chair mach 5 with my hair on fire at the mere notion of another stimulus which Obama is bantering now around but to do so only hurts me. This whole thing is out of order. I trust and have trusted that eventually the American people as a whole and in the final analysis get it right. We’ll know what to do in November.

I agree, Seymour. The nonsense has to stop and the time is now.

  • felizarte

He’s swiping ideas again! Just like what he did to Hillary in the primaries and was never taken to task for it.  Now he thinks he can again get away with it.  No mas!  Harry Reid accurately said, “He speaks without a negro accent except when he wants to.”

Now he complains about “they talk about me like I was a dog . . . ”  He’s the one who described himself as a “mongrel.”

  • TeakWoodKite

I have heard BO make the English language a prostitute “when he wants to”.

Next person to be critical of BO’s pimping the English language, (and this from a Hhhharvaaad grad) is going to be called a racist.

Jury number 5 says BO is convicted on all 10 counts of “never smack”.
Only one question is left unanswered, Arabella Trefoil, who is to pay your court costs?

If not, Hamlet will have the better of us.

Beautifully said, Seymour.  Just an absolutely beautiful comment.  Thank you.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Oh, why am I not surprised, felizarte?  I thought that said SO much abt him – stealing Hilalry’s policies wholecloth.  And his Obot supporters?  “Well, they just agree, so…”  Unbelievable…

And after his taking numerous expensive vacations while a number of people in this country suffer, the debt under which he has placed this country, he is WHINING?  Give me a freakin’ break.

  • TeakWoodKite

@Note to EllenD, this is why I quoted Hamlet. What he could not win he stole. And his family tree is just like Hamlets anyway. :)

I just heard a clip of That One in WI today. He’s going to create hundred of thousand of million of billion shovel-ready jobs across this nation. and the GOP is the party of “no we can’t.” So lame.

It was a short clip but it didn’t sound like there was much enthusiasm.

And I read a couple of days ago that Russ Feingold would be elsewhere.

  • HARP

So Obama thinks people “talk about him like a dog” huh. I have one dog that thought it was very funny but the other one is pissed off and feels very demeaned. So the WH can expect a letter from my Golden`s lawyer demanding reparations to the sum of 1,000,000, or a Government job, whichever is worth the most.

No need to apologize Rev Amy, I’ve been working the garden and feel great.  Hi and a Happy Labor Day to one and all.  It’s finally a nice day (weather wise) in the DC area.

What the heck is going on?  As soon as I posted, my comment registered first in the column.  Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes….

  • elizabethrc

Can this man be any more thin skinned?  He’s probably been pouting in the corner in the Oval Office over how the big, bad Repubs and Conservatives treat him.
I note in the audience behind him in today, several children. He’s resorted to stuffing his audience with children.?!!! They’ve obviously been told to applaud when everyone else does.  How pathetic is that?!
Obviously, he’s going to direct his latest jobs fiasco to union members, about the only ones left who are stupid enough to still believe his malarky.  The rest of us?  Not so much.

  • AC

I’ve got multiple shovels for him as he’s an expert at shoveling ****.

  • AC

This is not what Bob Dylan had in mind.
“Iranian woman to be stoned soon…”

  • elizabethrc

What kind of person takes part in that sort of barbaric treatment?  This says more about the Islamists than most anything else.  So now, in addition to stoning her to death they are going to give her 100 lashes?
Not to make light of it, but I’m not sure they’re bright enough to figure out which to do first.
I hope someone steps up to stop this nightmare and put an end to their murderous treatment of women.
I’d like to see the women rise up and scare the hell out of those pathetic creatures.

I got my math and verbal scores yesterday right after the I completed the test. I did very well on the verbal and OK on the math. But I’m well above where I need to be to make the cut for the top schools. (My combined scores were 1,400 and the top schools want a combined score of at least 1,100.)

The essay questions are scored by real people, so I won’t know those scores for a few weeks.

But it was a huge ordeal. I know I should just turn the TV off when I see Obama, but I feel I have to keep up with his latest lies. (Know your enemy.)

By now I should know better. I really and truly do think he was “helped” pharmacologically. I’m guessing Provigil.

After I dozed off for a while, my headache was gone and there was a program about prison in California on the TV. I shut the TV off and read a book for a while. Then I went for a walk. Much better use of my time.

“They talk about me like a dog.”

    Is that proper English?

“They talk about me like dogs.”

    or

“They talk about me as if I were a dog.”

    Which one is it?

Also what does this mean “It’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.”

Does that mean “Anything not in my prepared remarks is usually false, but this time what I’m telling you is true.”

Does it mean “I’ll get in trouble with Axelrod for saying this, but he’s not the boss of me! Nobody loves me. So there!”

Nothing this man says makes sense. Bo the dog probably lives a better life than many Americans, not to mention most people in the world.

wow, I forgot all about That One coming to my town today.  It is his 3rd  visit in as many months I think, so I’m convinced he is running again in 2012.  Wisconsin is a states that’s always in play.  Senator Feingold wasn’t here, and THAT is the story as far as the local news stations are playing it.  when Obama  comes to town the whole damn place shuts down.  No freeway access for a couple of hours, traffic tied up.   It makes me feel like I live in a police state with law enforcement in large numbers visible all over the place.  As for Obama coming to town, I pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

    Feeling scorned, big business

    Washington Post, by Staff

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S 2008 campaign raised roughly $40 million from the financial sector, 50 percent more than did Republican John McCain. But now, it seems, Wall Street is suffering a massive case of buyer’s remorse. Irked by the president’s anti-business rhetoric and by financial regulations he and a Democratic Congress have imposed, many erstwhile pro-Obama financiers — as well as other business people — blame him for destroying the investor confidence without which growth cannot resume. They are shifting their campaign cash to Republicans.

Questioned at a town hall last year about the “Nazi policy” of health care reform, Frank told the speaker who made the comment that talking to her was “like arguing with a dining room table.” Fast forward to this year, the questioner, Rachel Brown, is challenging the 15-term Democrat’s re-election bid. Obama’s political toxicity

Today, President Obama is flying to Milwaukee to mark Labor Day at a union picnic (“Laborfest”), at a far smaller venue than he used when marking the same event in 2008. Don’t worry about a rambunctious crowd, protest signs, or any other indignities, though. Admission is by ticket only, with unions in charge of distribution. Even more curious is the absence of left wing Senator Russ Feingold, facing re-election this year, and not showing a lot of strength in the polls. Patrick McIlheran, columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, has a witty column on the visit:

    American Thinker,

    Original Article

    9/6/2010

President Obama should be saying, “My economic stimulus plan has preserved or created 3 million jobs — in China.” He keeps leaving out the words “in China.” His plan is stimulating American demand for imports, not demand for American products. The latest unemployment report (9.6% in August) shows that the U.S. economy is stagnating, not recovering. Unemployment has stayed in the 9.5% to 10.2% range for the past 13 months….

Here we are, 19 months into the hoped-for change, trillions of dollars spent on stimuli, on bailouts, on government takeovers of businesses, pedal to the metal in President Obama’s mad race to socialist nirvana.

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/wichman.asp
Wichman sent an e-mail to the Muslim Student’s Association.
The e-mail was in response to the students’ protest of the Danish cartoons that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist.
The group had complained the cartoons were ‘hate speech.’
    Enter Professor Wichman.
In his e-mail, he said the following:
    Dear Muslim Association,
As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU I intend to protest your protest. I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders, murders of Catholic priests (the latest in Turkey), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called ‘whores’ in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland, and the rioting and looting in Paris France.
This is what offends me, a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many of my colleagues. I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Muslims to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile ‘protests.’
If you do not like the values of the West – see the First Amendment – you are free to leave. I hope for God’s sake that most of you choose that option.
Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.

WASHINGTON — Tony Podesta is one of the best-connected rainmakers in the nation’s capital, with a web of personal contacts stretching back 42 years and six Democratic presidential candidates. His brother John was Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff and an adviser on President Barack Obama’s transition team. But in an uncharacteristic twist this year, people at Tony Podesta’s powerhouse lobbying firm have chosen to donate $32,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee to help its chairman, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, wrest control of the Senate from the Democrats.

    THE LEFT KEEPS LOSING EVERYWHERE

    By Bruce Walker
    AmericanThinker.com
    Aug. 6, 2010

Many conservatives look at their first chance to defeat the left in six years when nervous Democrats try to explain away Obama’s disastrous leftward lurch. Not only is the left looking at a big defeat in America in two months, but it has been getting slobber-knocked all over the modern industrialized world.

Five months ago, in the British General Election, the Labour Party, which had been in power since the early 1990s, suffered a devastating defeat, losing 91 seats in the House of Commons. Although David Cameron’s Conservative Party had to form a coalition with the yuppie-ish Liberal Party, Conservatives are still the senior party in this government, and Cameron resonates well with British voters.

Last September, Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrat Party soundly trounced the Social Democrats, and the Christian Democrats’ traditional coalition ally, the Free Democrats, gained enough support so that Merkel could end the “grand coalition” of her center-right party with the socialist SDP and form a more natural governing alliance with the Free Democrats.

In October 2008, shortly before Obama would win the White House, the Conservative Party in Canada substantially increased its strength in the Canadian Parliament. Stephen Harper almost gained enough votes to govern outright with no support from any of the other major parties. The “Grits,” or Liberal Party, his principal ideological opponents, suffered massive losses (that party went from almost equality with the Conservative Party to having barely half as many seats as the Conservatives).

The Italian general elections in May 2008 produced a smashing defeat for the left. The coalition of parties on the right, led by Silvio Berlusconi, won a strong majority in the Chamber of Deputies and also a majority in the Senate. What was striking about this election was that Walter Veltroni, the atheist leader of the Democratic Party in Italy, was being openly touted as Europe’s Barack Obama.

In May of 2007, Nicholas Sarkozy defeated the Socialist Royale handily, putting the most pro-American and least leftist president that France has had, maybe in the history of the Fourth Republic. National legislative elections (less important in France than in other nations) also produced a solid defeat of the left in France.

General elections over the last four years — except for in America — have been a long ragged retreat for parties of the left in Germany, France, Italy, and Canada. Now it seems like Australia may join that company of nations. Political party names in other democracies sometimes do not convey what the parties would represent in America. The Liberal Party in Australia, for example, would be our Republican Party.

Julia Gillard, the current Prime Minister of Australia, led her left-of-center Labor Party in the August 21, 2010 general election. Gillard led it, to be more exact, into one of the lowest points in its 119-year history. As of this moment, we do not know if Gillard will be able to cobble together out of a handful of independent members of the House of Representatives — the three independents have announced that they will make their position known by September 6 — but her minority government, if she pulls it off, will be one of the weakest in Australian political history. The three independents are fairly conservative and used to belong to the major conservative party. Gillard’s Labor Party not only did worse than in prior elections, but they did worse than polls had predicted.

The left, it seems, is everywhere finding itself very unpopular. The leaders of the left seem tired and uninspiring. If Walter Veltroni, Gordon Brown, and Julia Gillard are the best that the left has to offer voters in major democracies, then the left is in big trouble. But that does not mean that conservatives are winning. It is also vital to remember that “right” and “left” in other countries should all be shifted a little portside in our frame of reference: a strong conservative in Australia or Italy would be a RINO in America.

But the de-legitimization of the left and its separation from governance are one half of a vital victory for freedom, and that half of the war is being won. What conservatives need now is a resonant message that inspires confidence and brings hope to a global electorate increasingly frustrated with politics as usual. The other half of victory — conservative leaders like Reagan and Thatcher and armies of conservative foot soldiers who will follow those leaders — is still unfinished business.

The collapse of the left makes November 2010 doubly important for conservatives. If Marco Rubio wins in Florida, can he lead us to complete victory in two years? How about Michele Bachmann, who wins elections in the same state which elected Al Franken? Eric Cantor, an articulate and conservative Orthodox Jew, might carry our banner in two years. Or perhaps Senator Fiorina, if she can beat Ms. Boxer in big left California, can carry our ideals to the White House.

No one, much, believes in the tall tales of the left anymore. We do not need to convince them that monstrosities like ObamaCare are a bad idea. We need to enter the political battles with something worth fighting for and worth winning for America. That is our challenge, and we better not fail.

It is a tragedy, a horror, a crime against humanity. The details of the murders – of the women beheaded, burned to death, stoned to death, stabbed, electrocuted, strangled and buried alive for the “honour” of their families – are as barbaric as they are shameful. Many women’s groups in the Middle East and South-west Asia suspect the victims are at least four times the United Nations’ latest world figure of around 5,000 deaths a year. Most of the victims are young, many are teenagers, slaughtered under a vile tradition that goes back hundreds of years but which now spans….

Finally, for the most part,   I can agree with Michael Moore again.  why we needed unions and why we still do.   Are they more corrupt than wall street?     I don’t think so, they were why the middle class was strong and productive ,  like any group there will be some bad results,  but for the most part they made the backbone of our country, you make a living wage you strenthen the economy .  The country would never become what we were without the middle class union workers.            People could afford to buy homes and pay their bills, send their kids to school .   People forget why there was a need for a union .  The wages were only a part of it , they were needed to protect the safety of the workers.       Companys want to pay slave wages once again to hard working Americans and we wonder why there is anger!   What happened to the outrage against the people that take our tax money and move to a slave wage country and put their profits in secret accounts?  in a short time we have been reduced to having the working class to be looked at as people deserving of mcdonald’s wages and think they can make it on the money!

I guess moore woke up to the ob adminstation’s lack of support for the middle class workers.

    Why burn the entire Koran?

    Stu Tarlowe
It seems to me that the church in Gainesville planning to burn Korans on 9/11 is making a big mistake. They have been denounced as stupid, insensitive, and crude, and these criticisms are correct. But if one accepts that it is OK to destroy holy texts (the US destroyed Holy Bibles in Afghanistan, after all), and the demonstrators want to make a point, they should confine themselves to burning only those parts of the Koran that are hateful to other religions or to infidels in general, or those chapters that instruct how infidels are worthy only of being converted, enslaved or killed.
They could burn just those pages that command all Muslims to wage jihad, killing the infidel wherever he can be found, by whatever means available, in order to further Islam’s goal of world domination. Or the parts that order Muslims to kill any fellow Muslim who renounces Islam.
Oh, and they could also burn those parts of the Koran which dictate a particular hatred for Jews, calling them pigs and monkeys. And the parts that tell how, if a Jew is hiding behind a tree or a rock, the tree or rock should say, “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me; come and kill him!”
And of course, they could burn only the parts of the Koran on which the most brutal aspects of Sharia law are based, like the stoning to death of women accused of adultery, or the “honor killings” of women by their own families.
And they could burn those parts of the Koran that instruct how women are to be treated like property, and how they can be beaten by their husbands, and how women’s bodies should be mutilated, and how a man can have multiple wives, some of them, like Mohammed’s, as young as 9 years old.
But there is certainly no need to burn all those many parts of the Most Holy Koran that promote peace and happiness, and that preach respect and tolerance for the other religions of the world, and coexistence with those other religions. There’s no need to burn those many parts of the Koran which describe a loving, forgiving god who inspires his worshippers to go forth and spread his love among their neighbors and the rest of the world.
There is no need to burn the all the parts of the Koran that exhort Muslims to respect the sensitivities of others, and to cherish life. Those parts of the Koran should certainly be spared from the flames.

Iran woman’s stoning suspended after global outcry
TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iranian authorities have suspended the execution by stoning of a woman convicted of adultery, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, after weeks of condemnation from around the world.
“The verdict regarding the extramarital affairs has stopped and it’s being reviewed,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told Iran’s state-run English-language Press TV.
The statement came a day after European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso called the stoning sentence against Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani “barbaric beyond words,” the latest in a string of criticisms by foreign powers.
