What Does Barry Soetoro Think?

With all of the news about the meltdown in the credit markets I realize the following is a bit off topic. However, I received a viral e-mail yesterday from a friend in Hollywood that included the following:

Let me see if I have this straight…
If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re ‘exotic, different.

Grow up in Alaska killing and eating moose, you’re a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

But if you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.

Well, you know me. I could not let this pass without some snark. So I sent my friend a note pointing out that this was amusing since Barack was raised from the ages of 6-10 in Indonesia, his name was Barry Soetoro, and he was in fact a muslim.

I know you’ll be shocked, but my friend reacted as if I had a foot growing out of my forehead. She claims this is all nonsense. So as a public service let’s deal hard core facts–you know, documentary and video evidence:

First, here is the certificate of enrollment at the Indonesian school:

obamaregistrationcrisp1.png

For those of you not up to speed with Malaysian here is the English translation:

english-translation-of-barry-soetoro-school-doc.png

Barack Obama’s step father, Lolo Soetoro, adopted him and listed his name as “Barry” not Barack. Since Lolo was a muslim I don’t think he would have had a problem with a step-son named “Barack.” But Mr. Lolo Soetoro did identify Barry’s religion as Islam. This is not a matter of opinion. It is a hard core fact. This does not mean that the guy we now know as Obama was a terrorist in training. 99% of the muslims in Indonesia are law abiding folks who reject terrorism. What I don’t understand is why Obama continues to hide this part of his life and pretend that he was raised a poor white child in Kansas?

And finally, courtesy of ABC, here is video confirmation that the man we now know as Barack Obama was known in Indonesia as Barry Soetoro:

I don’t object to digging up details on Sarah Palin’s past. If she wants to be Vice President we need to know everything. But the same condition applies to Barack “BARRY SOETORO” Obama. Why does the media by and large ignore this major gap in the Barack narrative?

Why do Obama’s supporters keep comparing him to Palin, instead of McCain? I don’t ever remember seeing a presidential cand. compared so often to the oppostion vp cand.

Yesterday, Obama and the DNC filed a joint motion to dismiss Berg’s lawsuit rather than kill the case outright by releasing a vault copy of his birth certificate. Berg has 20 days to respond but will do so next Monday. You can read his reaction and thoughts at http://www.obamacrimes.com and at http://www.americasright.com

I sat next to someone in first class on an airplane this week who has worked as an attorney in a number of democratic campaigns. He “whispered” to me that even some of the higher ups in the democratic party are getting concerned that, if Obama wins, the entire corrupt Chicago machine will pick up and move to Washington. They have seen how many “Chicago cronies” are being identified as potential President Obama appointees and it is making them very nervous. But, of course, there is nothing they can do about it now….

the media has ignored virtually everything from day 1 until today, with only the occaisional positive mention of his doings over the last few years. as we all know here, barry has refused to release virtually all documents he has generated throughout his entire life, and the media says nothing. it’s insane; the only explanation is that they know that he is someone they can do business with. the very fact that the powers-that-be want obama to be elected so badly tells me he should not be president.

hijacking the thread a little; just watched a very good documentary on the Weather Underground produced in 2002. some of you may have heard of it (called “The Weather Underground”). had a lot of period footage as well as recent interviews with bill ayres, b. dohrne, and other bad actors. definitely worth a watch; netflix has it for instant viewing here:

Thank you, Larry, for bringing this back up. I am stunned on a daily basis that Obama supporters so quickly criticize the minutia in Gov. Palin’s life but give great passes to large swaths of the Jr. Senator from Illinois’ life. An army of reporters was dropped into Alaska to dig up whatever they could on Gov. Palin from her earliest years to present. We have yet to get any idea of Obama’s years at Occidental College or Columbia University. Did he actually have any friends there? What student organizations was he a part of? What did he do in his job with New York Public Interest Group (NYPIG)? Why did he decide to leave New York and move to a city he had never lived in, Chicago, to become a “community organizer.” Who inspired him to do that? Who did he live with when he got there? What opinions did he write while at Harvard Law? What cases did he handle and what arguments did he make as a practicing attorney? For whom?

The list goes on and on. I would truly like any Obama supporter to take this seriously and come up with some answers. We have seen interviews with Gov. Palin’s friends, teachers and past casual acquaintances. We have seen NOTHING about Obama. It would certainly be nice to know.

  • candymarl

Where’s Obama’s original birth certificate presented in public? When John McCain’s citizenship waa questioned that’s what he did. It was the Obama campaign that raised the issue.

Why can’t Obama do the same? Also, why is Obama Mr. everyone must release their personal papers, refusing to release his, including his medical records until November 5th?

Digging into Barry’s past without his honest cooperation is like trying to dig a shaft in the sand on a beach with a plastic shovel. No matter how much you scoop you always remain at the surface, as the narrative edges of his life story continue to collapse into the void of the deep vessel of truth you attempt to create with your exploration.

Digging for Barry is futile. Why not just dig where it is easy, in some good old permafrost in Alaska.

But wait. You might find solid history. No muck seeping the the walls of the hole you dig. What a waste of digging time that is.

Give up on Barry and Give in to Sarah. As a matter of fact, don’t just dig into Sarah’s past. Dig it.

The philosophical difference between the two camps is one represents the hopeless romantics and the other represents the hopeful ones.

Only Neil Simon and Nietzsche would know which is which. But I am reminded of this

Where solitude ceases the market place begins; and where the market place begins the noise of the great actors and the buzzing of the poisonous flies begins too.

“In the world even the best things amount to nothing without someone to make a show of them: great men the people call these showmen.

“Little do the people comprehend the great–that is, the creating. But they have a mind for all showmen and actors of great things.

“Around the inventors of new values the world revolves: invisibly it revolves. But around the actors revolve the people and fame: that is ‘the way of the world.’

“Far from the market place and from fame happens all that is great: far from the market place and from fame the inventors of new values have always dwelt.”

–Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Part I, “On the Flies of the Market Place”

oh, look, biden has the same problem as obama — paying women less than men:

    Biden Bucks His Equity Talk
For every dollar that he paid his average male staffer, his female equivalent made only 73 cents.

    By Deroy Murdock

Two weeks ago, I explored the gap between Barack Obama’s rhetoric on pay equity and the reality of how he pays women in his Senate office. While Obama preaches equal pay for equal work, he does not practice it on Capitol Hill.

Well, it turns out that his running mate, Joe Biden, is even worse.

Based on calculations using Senate pay records posted by LegiStorm.com, a political transparency organization, between October 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008, Obama’s 28 male staffers divided among themselves total payroll expenditures of $1,523,120. Thus, Obama’s average male employee earned $54,397 on an annualized basis.

Obama’s 30 female employees split $1,354,580 among themselves, or $45,152, on average.

Among Obama’s top five highest-paid — and likely most senior — employees, one was female. Among his top 20, seven were women.

All told, for every dollar that Obama paid his average male staffer, his female counterpart made just 83 cents.

As for Biden, his 14 male staffers split a total payroll outlay of $1,077,128.40. So, Biden’s average male employee earned $76,937.74 per annum.

Biden’s 27 female employees divided $1,517,874.47, or $56,217.57, on average.

Among Biden’s top five highest-paid aides, one was a woman. Among the top 20, 11 were women.

All told, for every dollar that Biden paid his average male staffer, his female equivalent made only 73 cents.

This number is significant. Not only does Biden discount women by more than a quarter per dollar paid to men, on average. Biden collides into the standard by which his own campaign berates major companies for alleged pay discrimination.

Beneath the website banner “Fighting for Pay Equity,” Obama-Biden’s women’s issues page complains that, “Despite decades of progress, women still make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. A recent study estimates it will take another 47 years for women to close the wage gap with men at Fortune 500 corporate offices.”

Biden actually pays his average female employees four cents less than the level that triggers outrage on his own campaign’s website!

Nevertheless, Obama and Biden have the gall to go after McCain on this topic. The Democrats Monday launched an ad in Ohio in which Lilly Ledbetter, a Supreme Court litigant on pay equity, attacks McCain because he “opposed a law to give women equal pay for equal work. And he dismissed the wage gap, saying women just need education and training.”

McCain told the Associated Press last April 23: “I am all in favor of pay equity for women, but this kind of legislation, as is typical of what’s being proposed by my friends on the other side of the aisle, opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems…This is government playing a much, much greater role in the business of a private-enterprise system.”

Far more important is that McCain actually follows Obama and Biden’s gospel on this issue, almost to a fault.

McCain’s 17 male staffers split $916,914, thus averaging $53,936. His 25 female employees divided $1,396,958 and averaged $55,878.

On average, these figures show, women in John McCain’s Senate office make $1.04 for every dollar a man makes — a full 31 cents higher than Biden pays. (For detailed figures see this chart. I outline my methodology in my previous piece.)

In short, when it comes to implementing pay equity on Capitol Hill, the Democratic nominees talk a great game. However, in a three-way match-up, McCain earns the gold medal while Obama and Biden score silver and bronze, respectively.

To hear Obama and Biden taunt McCain on this issue is like being at the Beijing Olympics and hearing 200-meter butterfly medalists Cseh Laszlo of Hungary (silver) and Matsuda Takeshi of Japan (bronze) tell America’s gold-plated Michael Phelps to go take swimming lessons.

You know, every time I think of those reporters and such going up there, I keep thinking that I hope someone warned them to go in twos! I’m still chuckling about it.

Alaskans are different, I’ll give them that (hear that, Lee?). I just saw the dumb you tube thing, on that Obot’s show, O’Reilly, about her being connected to the AIP (Alaska Independent Party). Considering how large they are, it’s not that big a deal that she taped a greeting. She is, after all, the governor of the state! And Joe Vogler said a lot of things, but Barky should really be able to relate to him, since Joe was born, raised, and educated in Kansas. Isn’t that the state Barky tries to identify himself with? Seems to me he shares more in common with old Joe than Sarah Palin does.

Well, he did talk about it a few times. Wright converted him. He met Wright during his community service days apparently. Wright essentially became a father figure. So the guy’s gotta be awfully messed up inside. I always thought of Obama as a lost soul trying to figure out who he is. He probably thinks that becoming President will finally validate him as a person.

    HEADS UP!

Leno is having a mock debate tomorrow between Obama, Palin, and George W.

In past mock debates during the primaries, Leno had the actor playing Obama repeatedly calling Hillary a “[SEXIST REMRK DELETED BY ADMIN]“. Hillary was also portrayed as lusting after Obama. When these respective comedy skits aired, the nearly all white audiences in attendance loved the vicious sexism–as well as the blatant reverse racism. They simply could not get enough. That is, Geraldine Ferraro was so utterly right on so many levels when she essentially said Obama lucky to be a black man.

I seriously doubt Leno will allow the Obama actor to call Palin [DELETED BY ADMIN FOR SEXIST, LEWD COMMENTS]

The point is that Obama lies and might not even be eligible for POTUS. And why is Obama ashamed of his past? Is it because he knows people won’t see him as an American if they find out the details of him growing up ’til the age of 10 in Indonesia? And after that was still using his Indonesian passport ’til the age 20.

If Obama would speak up, all this would be cleared up and at the same give us an insight as to who Obama really is. Right now, no one knows. But I personally don’t think Obama himself knows who he is and thinks that becoming President will somehow resolve that issue.

“[I do] not accuse or despise journalism for anything beyond its enormous power to poison the public with the… delusion that it is telling the truth………The very blood and semen of journalism…is a broad and successful lying. Remove this form of lying and you no longer have journalism.”

Strangely appropriate with regard to Barry Soetoro.

What purpose does it serve to not report on O’s past? That is the question I keep asking myself. PEople do nothing they don’t gain from. So what does the media gain from this?
First, the ratings they gained from bashing Senator Clinton-the ratings soared, short lived, I guess they didn’t mind the trade off-Then Senator McCain, ageism, bashing his military record, and Now Gov Palin, and this has taken on a new dimension of viciousness, for the gain of what? Ratings, temporary, driven by the O machine, supporters, who now think Olbermann is the second coming.
What do they gain? There is something there beyond theie ratings; beyond some need to claim they were involved in history. I see the developed control freak personality, of these commentators, posing as news givers. I think they actually get a kick out of manipulating the public; and yes, I think they know they are doing it. Power quest, and no regard for the news.
What the voluntary amnesia of the media has truly forgotten is what happens to them when this election is over, and what remains of their “news”, programs. People are sick of them, after the non-stop flushing of the collective toilet reasoning, there won’t be any audience to pander to after Nov 4.

Why does Barry always talk about his midwestern values from Kansas when he spent NO time in Kansas but spent much of his youth in Indonesia. If his Mother got her mid western “Christian” values from Kansas, Barry must have got his values from Muslim Indonesia since they both spent their youth in their respective places, she in Kansas and he in Indonesia with a Muslim father. Do his children speak of his Indonesian values? Why does he get to take on her background but refuses to acknowlege his own?

This election has been the craziest one I have seen for a while. None of the polls make any sense. How could 42% of Hillary supporters reject Obama and still have him ahead in PA,VA and many other states. I really think that the PUMA effect is greatly under estimated. Plus don’t forget that Obama is given a 10 point advantage in the polls to begin with. Now I just don’t see how we managed to get an extra 10 million democrats in this country over the last 4 years. Do you really think that the people who put the democrats in congress are happy with them. I know I am not. I will be voting straight Republican this year. That vote was more of a protest vote then anything else. Also you can see how a large number of Republicans did not vote in 2006 or voted Democratic to make a point to the Republicans. To make long story short. OH, PA, VA are in the bag for McCain. Think about it. They tried to tell us that GA, ND will go for Obama this year and we all know how true that was. When it really comes down to voting there will not be enough people to trust Obama to take control of the country. That is the exact reason Bush won in 2004. This crisis showed just what we all have been saying for months now. Obama is not ready to lead anything. His response of “They will call me when they need me.” must be the craziest thing that I have ever heard any candidate say. I don’t think people really understand the impact that one statement will have on this race.

  • MEchelle Hates America!

On your last statement. The president has, under emergency situations, various executive powers. One of which is to demand the audience of all or one member of the legislative branch. It may be possible that Bush did not “invite” Barry. Rather he “ordered” Barry to show up to work.

Second. The pollsters are padding the D sample in their surveys because they understand the ACORN factor. There are millions of ghost voters who will be sending in absentee ballots over the next month.

Third. Do not worry about the swing states. The NRA is, starting 9/23 – this past Wednesday – spending $40 million in TV, direct mail and last minute voter registration and turnout IN THE SWING STATES. They are still a power to be considered. I pulled up GunBaNObama.org for a rabid O freak friend of mine and he went into meltdown because the only think he likes better than his ObamaLove is having his freezer filled with deer meat.

This is still a very liquid election.

The media seems to think it’s their job to decide which candidate is the “right” one. Then they slant the news totally for that person. There is no concept of objective or fair reporting.

Until Obama, the slant has always been toward the Republican candidate. In 2000, the media decided George W. Bush was the guy. They ignored all sorts of juicy things about him, the same way they’re ignoring the juicy stuff about Obama now. The only part I like is how it’s driving the Republicans nuts. Now they know how it’s felt to be a Democrat for the last 20 years.

    IT’S…JUST…TO…HARD…TO…RESIST!!

  • C.S.

Why is it more important to you what Larry Johnson says than what your candidate says? This goes beyond your petty comment because it is a Constitutional requirement that our presidential candidates meet that criteria and it is up to them to prove they are qualified, it is not the responsibility of the citizens to prove a candidate is not.

The People of the United States and our Constitution have been failed by the Democratic party and by our elected leaders. But one things is perfectly clear, you not only put your party above your country but you don’t believe in our democracy either.

Haha was just thinking the exact same thing- great mental picture, right!

One thing I’m confused by- wouldn’t it have been even better for Larry to tell his ‘friend’ about ‘Barry’s’ fake birth certificate!?!
I mean SERIOUSLY, that would blow that guy’s mind!

Obama is not comfortable working in the senate not confident to walk into the room and pull off a resolution for the crisis we face…

If that is how he is now how can we expect him to be in control and confident as POTUS?

John McCain has show us what a leader needs guts determination and the confidence to lead. The confidence to work with congress until resolutions are made.

BO’s favorite activist organization registers voters who don’t exist. BO has ACORN working overtime to register MILLIONS of voters before November 4.

While I can’t answer for the “O”, the fact remains that an association with Indonesia is not a positive.
An affluent family of my acquaintance left Indonesia with as much of their wealth as possible and settled in Hong Kong. They eventually sent their 3 sons to college in America.
That country has a “caste” system as well as widespread corruption!
The Muslim aspect would also trouble many voters, and there are terrorists networks that run rampant there!

Wright didn’t “convert” Barry. The people he tried to “community organize” laughed his ass right out of there. They said it might help if he was an actual MEMBER of the community.

So Barry just CHOSE a church. No doubt he liked Wright’s not only for the Black Liberation Theory but also….Wright is a former Muslim.

Has anyone ever taught you about comedic timing? It comes in beats of three and a line loses its punch after the third time. Not that it was ever very clever to begin with.

You are not running for president. We have a right to know everything about the president especially after Bush. This is the guy who can send more of our men and women to die for some dumbass cause. So excuse me if I want a little closer scrutiny of a guy who could draft my sons. If you read barky’s book and the part where he would fall on the side of Islam, well sorry dude, that requires me to get up close and personal with him and his past. More info please.

That video Larry provides above is so annoying! The MSM bent over backwards to suggest that Barry was a Christian and he was only registered Muslim because his stepdad was. They show those 6 Christian kids and let it be assumed THAT was where Barry spent his noon prayers. He was never a Christian till they laughed his ass out of community organizing and he had to become a member of the community. That’s when he chose Wright’s church. He calls it “that’s when I came to Jesus.” What a crock. I believe he personally is more an atheist like his mother, but he did go to the mosque with his stepdad. Why won’t he just admit it?

Leno is a yellow belly; he makes no jokes about Obama. I actually kept track of his shit during Jan and Feb (recovering from surgery) Obama, when is even mentioned in a joke, is never the butt of the joke– it’s always someone near like Biden. He does about a nine to one ratio of McCain jokes to Obama, nearly all playing on McCain’s age. His Clinton dick jokes have really gotten old– how long has Bill been out of office? But he will have three or four Clinton jokes in every monologue– that the Leno version of fair and balanced– 100 jokes about Clinton, 80 about McCain, and 2 about Obama.

I wrote to the Indonesian friend who lives there (she’s Indonesian, her husband is American) and asked her if it’s possible for her to just tell the school that her children are Indonesian and Muslim without showing any kind of documentation. She told me NO NO NO. Indonesia, because of its tourism industry, connection with the Dutch colony, requires documentation for everything. You can’s just tell the head of the school verbally, paper and paper only. I think I need to write to the Indonesian Embassy and ask them if this video clip show Soetoro was lying or the school was lying. My guess is, it isn’t the school.

Uh – because they’re told to do it by their bosses?

Barry needs to come clean about his past!

That’s the one thing he knows he can’t do. Even if he’s clean. Which he’s not. If a vetting process starts in earnest it’s all over.

Why do Obama’s supporters keep comparing him to Palin, instead of McCain?

Because their candidate is at best VP material? Because real prez candidates are out of their league? Because they don’t know the difference between a prez and a VP? Because they realise Sarah’s totally destroyed their chances of winning?

Larry where’s the white tape? You lied about that and the forged birth certificate.

And I don’t mean this as an insult to you (because I think you’re great!)…but quite frankly, I think this is the stupidest e-mail I have ever read – especially since I have now received it from about 20 people in Hollywood who make their money off of symbolism, made-up characters, and word-associations…

About three months ago a Wichita, KS news station interviewed Obama’s white female cousin….who became a Democrat to vote for Obama this year “because that is what families do“. In her interview she said she heard rumors that she had a cousin that was a Senator from IL who was running for president. The interviewer asked her if she met…she said she met him when he spoke at Butler County Community College in El Dorado KS (I attended the school and on that campus for a pottery class) and one other time since then! Got it Obama never met his cousin until February when he spoke here! And that was the first time he had ever been to Kansas! I think it was channel 12 but not certain on that!

Joe Biden will become president only if by that time, Biden has been sworn in as VP…while BHO would have taken the oath of office for POTUS, and then had to “resign” because of having dual citizenships, and even possibly now at this time, actually still be an Indonesian citizen.

That is a realy possibility…which is why BHO has not provided any straightforward or simple act of a COLB or his Indonesian passport (which identified him back then as an Indonesian citizen)

  • tabloid

That story is from Inside Edition, not ABC.

  • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

Another day another Larry Johnson screed. 18 months plus of electioneering and still “no vetting” Maybe, just maybe no one in the media is listening to you because you are all hat and no cattle. Obama’s original birth certificate was found by the most reputable source out there and you still push the cult of the COLB.

Your facts are so paper thin as to be laughable. You have no legal documents to prove your theories. The ragged piece of paper you use to “prove” that Obama is a Muslim has no legal standing at all. You have no legal proof that Obama was adopted either in Hawaii or in Indonesia. All you have is hair-brained conspiracy theories and wild surmises that have no basis in reality.

Your claims about Indonesian law are based on the hear-say of unidentified “friends” and claims about Dutch Colonial law that have zero support. And Larry’s claim about the whitey tape is a huge black mark against him. He had it on good authority that it existed but the thing has yet to surface. So either Larry’s sources were rooked or Larry himself was rooked. Either way it show a disturbing lack of skepticism on Larry’s part.

Obama identifies as a Christian, before that he was probably agnostic; he was not Muslim in any way that has meaning. A few trips to a mosque and some religious education shoved down your throat do not make any small boy a Muslim. I knew plenty of New Jersey kids who defected to Protestism the minute they became able because of Catechism and Mother Mary discipline. They were the most anti-Catholic people I knew. Getting Muslim instruction does not make you a Muslim. Being listed on a piece of paper as a Muslim does not make you a Muslim, even if it a legal document which the document offered by Larry is most decidedly not.

The only one lieing here are the people peddling the CLOB, Barry was adopted crap. He was born in the USA, he came back to the USA as a minor, he is -by law and the US Constitution eligible for the office. Even the Big Dog, Bill Clinton, admits that.

The Palin Pick — The Devolution of McCain

ne of our many conversations as we crisscrossed the country during his campaign for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination, John McCain said to me, “I’ve always tried to act on what I thought was the best for the country. And that has guided me…. The only thing I can do is assure people that I would act on principle.”

I traveled with McCain for weeks that political season, stayed in Arkansas with him, Cindy, and their children, and – for a Vanity Fair cover profile — filled dozens of notebooks and tapes with observations from and about a potentially heroic politician who seems far removed from the man running for president today.

Three weeks after the 2008 Republican convention, on the cusp (maybe) of the first presidential debate, it is time to confront an awkward but profound question: whether in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has committed — by his own professed standards of duty and honor — a singularly unpatriotic act.

“I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war,” he has said throughout this campaign. Yet, in choosing Palin, he has demonstrated — whatever his words — it may be permissible to imperil the country, conceivably even to “lose” it, in order to win the presidency. That would seem the deeper meaning of his choice of Palin.

Indeed, no presidential nominee of either party in the last century has seemed so willing to endanger the country’s security as McCain in his reckless choice of a running mate. He is 72 years old; has had four melanomas, a particularly voracious form of cancer; refuses to release his complete medical records. Three of our last eleven presidents (and nine of all 43) have come to office unexpectedly in mid-term from the vice presidency: Truman, who within days of FDR’s death was confronted with the decision of whether to drop the atom bomb on Japan; Lyndon Johnson, who took the oath in Dallas after JFK’s assassination; Gerald Ford, sworn in following the resignation of Richard Nixon. A fourth vice president, George H.W. Bush, briefly exercised the powers of the presidency after the near-assassination of Ronald Reagan.

Given that history, what does John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin — the cavalier, last-minute process of her selection and careless vetting; and her over-briefed, fact-lite performance since — reveal about this military man who has attested to us for years that he is guided by his personal code of honor? “Two things I will never do,” McCain told me, “are [to] lie to the American people, or put my electoral interests before the national interest” — an obvious precursor of “I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war.”

McCain, I wrote for Vanity Fair, “often speaks of the duty to follow his conscience in politics, rather than polls or party discipline. This, he says, comes from having escaped death and becoming ‘more aware of the transience of everything we do.’”

“I’ve always had a pretty good idea about how to define something as to whether it’s right or wrong,” he told me. “I don’t mean that I’m better or worse than anybody else. I just mean that when I see an issue and think about it and talk to people, I do generally have the ability to know what’s the right course of action, even if it may not be what the majority wants. So I have a certain amount of confidence that I don’t have to have a majority opinion on my side.”

It does not take a near-death experience to know that Sarah Palin is not qualified to be commander in chief, or that — in choosing her — McCain has ignored his own oft-avowed code of conduct. “McCain made the most important command decision of his life when he chose Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee,” noted David Ignatius in the Washington Post. “….No promotion board in history would have made such a decision.”

    ——–

Above all, the John McCain I covered in 1999-2000 was — he said — convinced that two factors were undermining the interests of the United States: its cultural wars, causing political gridlock in Washington and civic discontent across the land; and the unbending agenda of the right-wing of the Republican party that, in his view, had been captured by the Christian conservative movement and bore disproportionate responsibility for the poisonous state of American politics. Exhibit One: the scorched-earth campaign that George W. Bush was then waging against McCain’s insurgent run for the Republican presidential nomination.

Yet, McCain, is, in fact, running the kind of campaign against Barack Obama that George Bush ran against him in 2000, which he regarded rightly as dishonest, dishonorable and diversionary in terms of the truth about him and about the nation’s problems.

The conservative commentator George Will has been especially incisive of late about the “dismaying,” “un-presidential temperament” of McCain and the sleazy tenor of his campaign. Karl Rove (!) has responded to the incessant lying of McCain’s ads (one claims falsely that Obama has promoted “comprehensive” sex education for five-year-olds — he had, in fact, endorsed legislation to insure that kindergartners were warned about sexual predators), by saying, yes, the McCain camp’s mendacity has “gone one step too far.”

Meanwhile, McCain’s frequent invocations of the need for bi-partisan statesmanship are interspersed with the angry themes of cultural warfare and of the Republican convention orchestrated by his handlers, the most dominant of them practitioners from the campaigns of George W. Bush: attacks on “tax-and-spend Democrats,” on the dependable liberal bogeyman, on “the angry Left,” on Constitution-rewriting federal judges (including, incongruously, three of the Supreme Court justices who voted to uphold McCain’s singular legislative achievement: the campaign-finance act he authored with Democrat Russ Feingold).

“If hypocrisy were gold, the Capitol would be Fort Knox,” McCain once famously said. “Some of those guys,” he said, referring to his fellow senators, “have they even had lives? What have they done?” He added, “Aw, jeez, this is exactly the kind of thing that gets me into trouble.” Indeed.

McCain’s first choices to be his running mate were former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania and Senator Joe Lieberman, the Democrat-turned-Independent from Connecticut, and former vice presidential nominee of his former party. Neither passed the ideological litmus test of the Republican-Right — “The Base” — because each holds pro-choice views. Certainly both are qualified to step into the presidency in terms of national security credentials — regardless of whether one agrees with their particular politics — in the event of the death of the president. McCain’s “Hail Mary” pick — Palin — was hastily decided on the next-to-last day of the Democratic convention, by which time it was evident that Obama’s convention was winning over independent voters; all that remained was the final night and the opportunity for Obama to deliver a speech that would further work to his advantage, and debilitate the McCain campaign. Only by exciting “The Base” could McCain remain competitive and win, it was calculated.

The distance from McCain’s ads and assertions about his presidential opponent and Democrats generally, and his decision to run a “persona-based” campaign, as opposed to being specific on the issues, is of a piece with his choice of Palin to be his running mate. As another conservative commentator sometimes critical of McCain — Peggy Noonan — has noted, the “narrative” of a life [McCain's, Palin's], takes over from existential political fact in the type of campaign run by McCain and his handlers. We have heard an awful lot in the past few weeks, especially from Sarah Palin, about John McCain “The Maverick,” just as we did in the convention narrative. But what McCain has actually been doing in this campaign, rather than actually being The Maverick, is conveying the appearance of iconoclasm, and playing to the crowd. (Hence, perhaps, “suspending” his campaign — and trying to postpone the first presidential debate while his poll numbers are sinking — to deal with the financial crisis?) At this point, the maverick claim seems no more genuine than Sarah Palin’s charade foreign-policy tour of Manhattan with no witnesses — reporters — permitted to observe the proceedings.

The issue of Palin’s relative ignorance about international affairs and the larger world beyond America’s shores (compared to previous vice presidential nominees), her attendant arrogance in seeming to revel in it, and McCain’s decision to subject the country to it in choosing a possible president — is the biggest question in this election, or perhaps ought to be. It goes to the core of who the John McCain of this campaign is.

Another conservative commentator, David Brooks, wrote last week: “Sarah Palin has many virtues. If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she’d be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness.”

The more we learn, the more we realize the vetting process was — given the rush of the circumstances — hopelessly inadequate: McCain didn’t know many aspects of Palin’s record or her reputation (none of which is to say she wouldn’t be a congenial fit as, say, Secretary of Interior in a McCain administration). McCain’s first choices for a running mate — Ridge and Lieberman — were light years ahead of Palin in the vice presidential-qualification department. But they didn’t meet the ideological test, exactly the ideological litmus test that McCain has attacked his whole political career and told us he would never succumb to.

John McCain is a serious man, as anyone who has spent time with him knows. But he has not run the kind of serious campaign he once promised.

Not for the first time, as many of his fellow Republicans (as opposed to friendly reporters and sympathetic Democrats) had long maintained, McCain’s more reckless inclinations and lesser impulses prevailed. A great political movement that would transcend rabid partisanship and hard ideology does not seem in the cards.

And if he wins the election, Sarah Palin — who in her first post-convention discussion of foreign policy indicated a willingness to go to war with Russia over Georgia — stands a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Ultimately it is the choice of Palin, made in the moment when action speaks loudest, that may undermine a quarter-century of assertions by John McCain about the preeminence of duty, honor and country in his political schema.

So President Barack Obama is hiding the part of his life from the age of 6 to 10 based on the information on a form that you acknowledge was completed by his stepfather and not him.  He should 35+ years later be accountable for the information completed by someone else.  As many have shown checking the religion box does not mean that you actually or actively practice that religion.
