Barack’s Shameful Bipartisan Record

Give Barack some credit. He has been in the forefront of one bipartisan group on the Hill–i.e., those who have raked in the most dough from two bankrupt mortgage firms. There are twenty five members of congress-16 -Democrats and 9 Republicans–who have some explaining to do about the unfolding Wall Street debacle that started with the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. As a supporter of Hillary Clinton I am not happy to see her name on the list. Although the list covers contributions received since 1989, it is astonishing that the number three person on the list is Barack Obama. Why did these two dead beat companies want to give Obama–the guy who supposedly does not take money from lobbyists–the third largest sum? He has yet to celebrate his fourth year anniversary in the Senate yet he’s pulling down more money from these two companies than every member of Congress except for Chris Dodd and John Kerry. WTF, over?

Top Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008

Great insight Larry…and yet, as the polls show, America is blind to this, willfully blind and unwilling to look at the facts.

I don’t think this is going to get the press it deserves because it would hurt The One…Just like Biden gaffs …he is famous for them but now I think he is lying and getting away with it because they just say oh another gaff from Biden..

“After seven years, in which our senior diplomatic personnel were not allowed to make a single contact with Iranians, the Bush administration realized the absurdity of its own policy and sent our leading diplomat to Iran,” he said. “The Assistant Secretary of State as he went to Tehran, sat down at the instruction of the President of the United States.”

It sounds great for Obama and Biden that the president came around to something so close to their position on talks with Iran; trouble is, the event Biden described never actually happened.

In point of fact, the one “meeting” that has taken place was in Geneva, Switzerland, when Under Secretary of State William Burns sat in on a discussion between Iranian representatives and the other “P5 +1″ political directors involved in nuclear talks. The meeting, while a first, was not a negotiation; Burns was there merely as an observer, and had no formal role or talks with the Iranians.

So, point by point: Burns was not sent to Tehran; he did not go to Tehran; and there was no such instruction from the President.

    http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/09/24/biden-fact-check-no-us-diplomats-in-tehran/

My point is these people don’t check facts so Biden and Obama can lie all they want because the MSM won’t call them on it…and people go home believing Bush followed Obama’s lead…it didn’t happen.

Larry can you add the video with the Black Caucus and Fannie Mae…. the “Friends and Family” one. The one showing that in 2005 (?) Obama knew there was problems as did Fannie Mae and the Black Caucus.

  • DoubleRider

Clinton is a Senator from NY, the financial capital of the US, not to mention the world, so it would make sense that she would be one to target with donations from the financial sector. The real issue is how did the junior Senator from IL get more money in 6 less years. I think Wall St loves the Big O since he is easy to manipulate.

The numbers I have seen posted are as follows:

Compare the money Barack has raised from lobbyists with that McCain has snagged. Obama received a grand total (per Open Secrets) of $1,223,737.00 from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers, AIG, and Bear Stearns while John McCain received only $258,075.00.

John McCain $6,550 (Fannie Mae) $9,100 (Freddie Mac) $117,500 (Lehman Bros.) $36,875 (AIG) and $88,050 (Bear Stearns)

Barack Obama $137,950 (Fannie Mae) $68,750 (Freddie Mac) $370,524 (Lehman Bros.) $75,899 (AIG) and $570,614 (Bear Stearns)

The KEY POINT in all of this is that Obama has only been in the Senate FOUR YEARS. The time frame that is cited is from 1989-2008. He has collected either the second or third largest amount in the same span that the others collected over many more years. “Special Interest Reformer” with his hand out.

I have theory about voters. Not the voters whose minds are made up, the swing voters of whom there are a lot this election. I think as the election gets nearer, their focus gets narrower. In the spring and summer they have a “culture figure view.” This is where a new and shiny concept candidate can catch on. People aren’t really pondering this person as president, they just look at how interesting they are. Then as the conventions draw near they shift to a party view. Polls generally reflect feelings toward the two parties and the candidates are figureheads for the 2 parties. We are still in that stage now. Then as the election draws very near these voters come to an individual view. They start looking more at character and actually trying the candidate on as someone who will be in the living rooms for the next four years.

I know we are all anxious and even nervous about the fall of Obama that we think surely must be coming. And I think as we enter that final stage it will begin. We think too much about the bots and not the 18% who are undecided. As they stop thinking about history making and party and start comparing this man to that man, the emptiness of Obama is going to come to the forefront in a great rush. It is mostly because I believe this theory that I still think McCain will win by 10 or more points and an electoral landslide.

  • fif

Meanwhile, the media is only talking about Rick Davis’ firm and it’s retainer with F&F. NO mention of Obama’s ties. Typical propaganda we have seen for months.

  • Shiloh

CNN polls are a waste of time. They reflect nothing but the proportion of CNN viewers who are hard core democrats. Fox online polls do the same. The undecided voters don’t respond to these things. Every question posted will have the same split because those who respond see right throught the question and know that voting yes or no is “good” for Obama. Don’t worry about it.

By the way, a poll on the debate should not be yes or no but:

    A. Should the debate go on no matter what?

    B. Should the debate go on only if congress passes a bill today or tomorrow?

McCain needs to be doing more to identify himself with B. Obama is tying himslef to A.

VIDEO – See Fannie Mae CEO Ask Congressional Black Caucus For Help In 2005!
Fannie Mae CEO to Democrats: You Are Our ‘Family’ and ‘Conscience’

    September 18, 2008 – 09:22 ET
this video of the interim Fannie Mae CEO, Daniel Mudd, addressing the Congressional Black Caucus, including Barack Obama, at their swearing-in ceremony in 2005. Although this video is spreading quickly in the blogosphere, you have yet to see or hear anything about it in the MSM. As you can see in the video, Mudd talks about the problems of Fannie Mae yet that didn’t keep Obama and other Democrats from taking large contributions from that organization or doing anything to try to fix it. Here is a transcript of CEO Mudd addressing the Democrats:

Bill Clinton: Don’t ‘Overly Parse’ McCain Request to Delay Debate

    September 25, 2008 8:26 AM

ABC News’ Nitya Venkataraman Reports: Former President Bill Clinton defended Sen. John McCain’s request to delay the first presidential debate, saying McCain did it in “good faith” and pushed organizers to reserve time for economy talk during the debate if the Friday plans move forward.

“We know he didn’t do it because he’s afraid because Sen. McCain wanted more debates,” Clinton said, adding that he was “encouraged” by the joint statement from McCain and Sen. Barack Obama.

“You can put it off a few days the problem is it’s hard to reschedule those things,” Clinton said, “I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted — I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country and so I don’t think we ought to overly parse that.”

    3. Obama, Barack S D-IL $105,849

What’s really sad about this list is look where Senator Obama ranks on that list, then compare it to how long he’s been in office. Compare that to the other names on that list and how long they’ve been around. Imagine how much he would have collected from them by now if he’d been around even half as long as the others have.

  • SalG

And, McCain knows that Obama is lying, but McCain wants a bipartisan solution to this crisis. He will not call Obama out on it at this time (I sure hope his surrogates do!)

  • http://www.theindependentview.com Matthew Weaver

I’m actually curious about what is going on with this. Davis has said one thing, I’ve seen mention that he’s been accurate, yet questions that he may not have been. What is the real story? McCain doesn’t need this right now, however relevant or irrelevant it might be.

  • lark

No he isn’t. He is for himself only and for Michelle and his two daughters. End of the party line.

  • C.S.

you people are republicans and as such responsible for the shit that’s hitting the fan right now.

Not me. Since I haven’t voted for a winner in a very long time (and that includes the House and Senate) I feel absolutely no guilt over what the people you gave your vote to has done to my country.

The two political parties responsible for our leaders over the years have no Constitutional authority to force us to choose a person from their pre-selected list and it certainly isn’t my fault that they use the Peter Principle to make that list!

Yeah, we’re in serious trouble, the fate of our free nation may hang in the balance and at the moment we have inept vacation prone Bush and Senators McCain and Clinton sticking their fingers in the holes of our crumbling economic dike.

And your Soertoro/Obama is proving that without his teleprompter and his 300 “advisers” he simply doesn’t know what to do so his staying away really doesn’t make much difference in the solutions department but I’m sure his Illinois constitutes would like to see him on the job and ready to vote on any plan agreed upon rather than just being “present” somewhere else.

  • Leisa

Those CNN polls were always skewed in favor of Obama v Hillary during the primaries.

it is actually remarkable that few outside Obama’s core campaign are in sync–Biden, both Clintons, and other Dems are at odds with him one so many items–debates, going to DC, ad content, finance plans, and such. Obama may have his cult following, but it doesn’t stretch to anyone with serious roles and responsibilities.

  • educatedwhitewoman

Republican voters across the country are livid about this bailout. McCain was in touch with his party in Washington. He had serious doubts that the bill would be passed by Monday and that the financial markets would go into meltdown mode. Based on the anger expressed by voters about this proposed bailout, it looks like he’s telling the truth (surprise). How would both McCain and Obama look on Monday if no deal was reached and they were out campaigning? Obama should think about that.

  • Kal

yeah, an annual average would show it better

    Larry does that a lot

  • Annie Oakley

I hope you’re right. That ABC poll was a real kick in the teeth – an 11% advantage to Obie on his ability to handle the economy? It is so frustrating. Meanwhile GE’s stock keeps drifting down – maybe Michelle better pitch a “raise the bar higher” fit and call the election so Obo can deliver sooner.

  • http://www.theindependentview.com Matthew Weaver

I wonder if any reform of the new bankrupcty laws–which Biden had a hand in–might be included in the bailout? Where was Obama on this?

  • Annie Oakley

Another liberal principle under the bus. Apparently, Obie wants to give Wallow St. as many billions as they need to keep the economy working the way it has been, but he’ll happily let bankruptcy wipe out people’s life’s savings. Makes you proud to know you’ve fought for the little guy all your life and this banker primadonna comes along and makes the transformation of the people’s party into the corporations’ other party complete.

KOS, DU? Care to comment on this change?

  • bemused

Your comment shows how critical wording is in poll questions. I feel sure that most polls could be severely skewed just by changing 2 or 3 words in the whole set of questions, it is that crucial.
Besides the wordings you mentioned, what if the pollster said (extreme example):
“Will you watch the candidates debate about the significance of the Georgia-Russia incident or the discussion of your bank account and retirement programs which are now on the line?”

Same of course with the polls demonstrating that race is a factor. Imagine the different responses to:
“Would you be willing to vote for a qualified African-American?” (How willing is this person to vote for qualified and race)
“Would you be willing to vote for a qualified American?” (How willing is this person to vote for qualified and race is not mentioned but country is)
Here are three characteristics which might influence the voters’ feelings; qualified, race, and nationality. (I throw that in for the group that believes it is important to be a natural-born citizen ;) ) Now, results from this alone will not tell us what quality was most important. This comes from additional questions like:
“Do you have negative feelings toward one of the candidates because of his race?”
Now this is a totally useless question, because there are two “hims,” one white and one half-white, so we don’t know what a “yes” would mean.

I could go on for pages, but I hope this is food for critical thought when you read these poll results. Try to find the original questions, and imagine all the ways their meaning could possibly be misinterpreted, then multiply by two and you will have an idea.

  • NomNomNom

As heard on CNBC, Steve Leisman was been reporting on the negotiations and said that Obama was blocking inclusion of bankruptcy reform. Now that’s just what he Steve Leisman reported, but truth like this often leaks out on the business channel where Obie gets the benefit of people thinking he’s good for business without the downside of the peasants knowing he’s stabbing them in the back. I bet it’s an accurate report.
