Larry Discusses Libby on NPR

This morning, Larry Johnson appeared on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” (Audio/Story) to discuss the dangerous precedent set by the outing of Valerie Plame:

Among intelligence insiders, there’s concern that nearly four years after the CIA called for an investigation into the leak of Plame’s name to reporters, no one has been charged for what they see as an unpardonable crime: outing an undercover operative.

Valerie Plame belonged to that secretive circle of spies who spend most of their careers — in some cases, their whole lives — operating undercover. Within that circle, there appears to be mostly relief at the verdict. Larry Johnson, who was in Plame’s CIA class and has remained a close friend, calls it “wonderful news.”

Johnson adds, “I think there was a general perception that this government could get away with anything. With this verdict, the answer is, ‘No it can’t.’” Johnson sees the decision as a moment of vindication for his friend. But he says it shouldn’t be the end of the Plame story — that more officials should be charged. … Read all / Listen.

Robert Richer, former No. 2 in the CIA’s clandestine service, and former CIA officer Bob Baer also comment in the story.

It appears that the expectation of those who have time to do nothing but repeat mantras to each other is that I check their little posts to respond. If I don’t I’m a “coward..”

What’s next? Chicken? A-hole? Mommy’s boy (oops, Kerry has that locked up)

Well, so you know, I was out and engaged in swordplay with your anointed hero and, after I slashed my patented “Z” on his ass, he ran, like always. Look for a NYT piece tomorrow on how my sword was exaggerated and I lied about his ass. I will, of course, play myself in the movie.

Now, about the questions. I assumed some level of understanding of the judicial process in making the statement. Since you have none, I will explain, as I do to los hijos here in the 3rd grade. You see, when there has been a trillion dollar investigation and the only charge made is not about the “underlying” charge but only about something that happened well after the charge, the weasely little prosecutor who brings only that charge has nothing left. He brought that charge because he could (you know why) and because if he didn’t he would look as stupid as, say, John Kerry.

Those who have papers, or can read (use the Internet) know that St. Fitz said he did not expect any further charges and that the investigation was “inactive.” There is no investigation and no charges. In the world of intelligent people, that you do not inhabit, that means everyone else is cleared. To you it means something only you can conger.

The Libby Case and Its Impact on Journalists and Their Sources

    Are they related to Kim?

  • Zorro

    Clown? Stunning refutaion.

Kim? Ah, a conspiracy to foment discord.

I am related to Don Diego.

Now, what about a “reasoned” response? Or do I have to call you all cowards?
    Should be shameman.

  • Sandy

This Zorro clown really REALLY dislikes that his black-hearted heroes, GWBush and Dick Cheney are being exposed for who they really are. He hates Patrick Fitzgerald because he is known as an especially competent and thorough prosecutor who tried the case he knew he could win…. I have to believe Patrick Fitzgerald came very close to indicting Karl Rove. But his Libby case had more clearly proveable crimes. And, they would — as they HAVE — expose the truth about Cheney and Bush in a very well-documented way.

Zorro — hear this: THE TRUTH HAS BEEN EXPOSED!!!!

That’s what makes you and others like you….show up in places like this. How you DO hate the bright lights of Truth-telling shining on all your buddies’ lies!

You may even own a lot of Halliburton stock, eh? Are you, like they (GWB&Co) war profiteering?

There has to be something in it for you to keep trying….even when you are losing….day by day….ground.

    YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!

Don’t waste your time here. We can.

  • Zorro

Sandy, sweetheart. I don’t hate Fitz and, for me, personal attacks (as opposed to defense thereof)are a waste of time. It’s just that Fitz’s posturing and preening and his willingness to let the NBC lawyers do what they did (and I am more than certain that you have no idea what I mean or what happened)are unattractive to those who care about such things. You don’t.

I can “handle the truth” Jack N., but you can’t have your personal definition of it. Why don’t you just get up on that wall and protect me, now.

Maybe you think I’m an ilegal. Yeah. You’re a gringo malvado, living in my parents’ basement in Palmdale.
And, I’m the clown. See my tears.

    The Libby Verdict
The serious consequences of a pointless Washington scandal

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/06/AR2007030602020.html

    Larry,

You and I have disagreed on many things, in this case we have not. I agreed with the prosecution of Mr. Libby and with the verdict issued yesterday.

I just thought you should know that the WAPO’s editorial is still putting forth the same misinformation that V Plame was not covert, that it was she who recommended Abm. Wilson for the trip, etc.

  • 1watt

No matter how plainly the facts are presented to WaPo, Limbaugh,Fox, etc. their story won’t change, they have an agenda. As long as there are people like Zero around they’ll get away with it.

  • goldwater

    SHE WAS NOT COVERT!!!!

PROVE TO ME THAT CIA WAS EVEN REMOTELY INTERESTED IN KEEPING PLAME’S STATUS UNDERCOVER… I DARE YOU!!!!!!!

    FACT:
The CIA sent a non-CIA employee, Joseph C. Wilson 4th, on a mission to Niger to determine whether Saddam Hussein had tried to purchase “uranium yellow cake,” an ingredient for making a non-conventional weapon.

    FACT:
Wilson had not served in Niger for over two decades, and, unlike his supposedly undercover wife, was not an expert in nuclear weapons.

    FACT:
Wilson was not required to sign a confidentiality agreement about his mission.

    FACT:
Wilson was not prevented by the CIA from writing his Op-Ed for The New York Times, an article that not only criticized the Administration, but also detailed his mission and findings.

    FACT;
When columnist Novak contacted the CIA to verify that Plame worked for the Agency, he says that the Agency not only verified her employment but also failed to give him a serious request not to publish her name.

    FACT:
The CIA’s usual procedure when it is concerned that publishing a fact would endanger a covert agent is to have a high ranking official, usually the Director, contact the journalist and ask that information not be published.

    FACT:
The CIA did not prohibit Plame from making political contributions under the name “Wilson, Valerie E.,” facts that are publicly available at the FEC.

    Dear Barry,
What the fuck can’t you understand about being part of undercover intel network. You prove to me she wasn’t undercover and I’ll stop beliving that the civilian leadership will always protect operators and their sources and methods. I’d do your homework my friend, ’cause I don’t need to do mine… I’m gifted in the art. Stop wasting our time here I’m sure ‘ya got some lawns to mow or something… don’t ‘ya?!?

Hello goldwater, you hairy, smelly, stunted trolly-troll-troll. what a load of irrelevant, ignorant, unintelligent codswallop. Get back under your bridge.

The CIA referred the matter to the prosecutor for investigation. That would tell you something – if you only had a brain.

  • goldwater

“The CIA referred the matter to the prosecutor for investigation. That would tell you something – if you only had a brain.”

That tells me SHIT, asswhipe, because NO ONE has SEEN the fucking document. We just know that the CIA leaked it MSM to cover their pathetic, incompetant asses. And by the way – how come no one has investigated the CIA for THAT??????

WILSON IS A JOKE! Even the left-wing Washington Post know that.

—You prove to me she wasn’t undercover…

What undercover agent drives herself to CIA every fucking day of the week. If that is how the CIA protects their undercover agents then we really are in fucking trouble.

What undercover agent puts her political contributions in her REAL NAME?

    ARE YOU PEOPLE DENSE????

  • graywolf

    Hey Goldwater:

How much does the average CIA officer make?

    Let me guess: 50K – 75K

You don’t get much for 75K.

  • anwaya

    Dear Trolly Goldwater,

It only tells you SHIT because you don’t even have that for brains.

But this is choice, TG (you don’t mind if I call you that, Trolly?):

“—You prove to me she wasn’t undercover…”

There, there, TG. That’s what *you* want to do, and can’t. Your incoherence is a delight to behold.

It’s so kind of Larry to pull in the occasional half-witted troll to bait.

    * poke *

    Still there, TG?

You know, if you don’t come a-ranting and a-hollering and A-YELLING LIKE A CRAZY HOMELESS PERSON!!!!!! you’ll get a different reception. If you came back all smoothed out – shaved, washed and without your shopping cart – maybe we can have a civilised discussion.

    Ya dig?

  • goldwater

    anwaya,

Just answer the fucking questions. If you can’t then shut the fuck up.

  • Uppity Gal

I thought the whole point of “undercover” is that NO ONE knows…too much popular culture seeping into logic (ie, Bourne Identity, mission impossible, etc.)

For all any of us knows, one can drive to Langley every day for years and be undercover. One can go on vacation and be “on the clock” for the government. The very obviously “Receptionist” in the lobby can still have an undercover status. Secret.

The tradecraft of spying is supposed to be “covert”- it could be happening right under your very nose! that’s the point. You ought not to see a “drop” occur as you sip a latte at the cafe.

Arguing “prove it!” is not the point…sure, insist you don’t want to believe it. That’s your right. But, in no way does disbelief make it a falsehood.

  • http://profile.typekey.com/mpumpky/ PrchrLady

You said it well Uppity Gal. If she was doing her job, no one would know. Only if she makes a mistake, or someone makes her status, would she be known. And then the play is done…

It occurs to me that these trolls always like to argue the ‘semantics’ of whatever they are talking about, or trying to. They want to press some tiny, fine little point, to the extent of unreasonability. Yet the obvious, facts are always considered untrue, unless ‘proved’, over and over again. A never ending process with most of these morons, although I still hold hope for a few more to open there eyes.

Right in the same vein, trolls always love to press the ‘letter of the law’ and the ‘rule of law’, for which I have great respect. However, the intent, and compassion that are so necessary to have equal justice, is somehow missing.

Listen to their words. Slight changes they make in what they are saying, to change its meaning, like talking something out of context. They are always telling us what we should ‘believe’, even when our experience, knowledge and intellect tells us it is not true. I have been known to change my mind of various issues over the years. When new FACTS or RESEARCH come into play, everyone should re-examine any previous conclusions. Trolls lack that ability, and therefore, are an inferior species. They will someday become extinct.

  • Uppity Gal

    ((NODS)) to PrchrLady!
“When new FACTS or RESEARCH come into play, everyone should re-examine any previous conclusions.”

That is what is so disheartening some days…the utter lack of ability to perform this very simple conscious act.

I understand we naked apes are loathe to change, much less admit we have been incorrect. The ego is a nasty thing. But our THINKING minds should over ride the very illogical “arguments” we hear.

I don’t pretend to know it all; never have (well, ok, I suppose in my youth, hubris and pride surely did over ride at times!)

I know trolls would never respond to my post; the plain simple truth is the last part of their agenda. It is exactly when we hear- what?- from them:
    **crickets**crickets**

I do however appreciate your acknowleding that you “get it.” Your posts are wonderful in their heartfelt passion and telling dissection of truth. :o )

  • anwaya

TG’s penultimate post asks two questions:

Q1. How come no one has investigated the CIA for THAT??????

A: The CIA didn’t leak anything that was classified.

Q2. What undercover agent puts her political contributions in her REAL NAME?

Every undercover agent who files a federal tax return and, in exercising their protected right to freedom of speech, makes a tax deductible contribution to a political party.

After all, they have a reasonable expectation that the top secret, highly classified information that they’re a NOC working on some of the most sensitive and vulnerable national security projects going won’t be leaked to the press in a coordinated campaign to slime to slime their spouse for political ends.

I bet that’s too many words for you to take in at once. Try writing them out one by one, get help from a grownup if you need it. You can always ask for another crayon if they break on you.

    Twin clowns.

  • Thinker

Clearly the ‘powers that be’ are shaken enough to consider this board “important”.

Here’s something to consider, as a dumb outsider who merely “thinks”. Is there double jeopardy in USA?

Wouldn’t it be “funny” if all the bad eggs were given a get out of jail free card with points against their names. Guess it would empirically suggest “justice” to the dumb plebs. Someone will do time, I’m sure. Where’s the janitor?

I respect the intellectually impaired, Goldwater.

Hi Larry. Well, congratulations to the good guys, Valerie and Joe. I hope they win big with the lawsuit. But really, where is MY compensation, considering what I have had to LIVE with? Lord knows, I could also use some extra cash, as I don’t even own a home, having sold it in June 2000.
