Did you notice, in the last half of the debate, how the real self-aggrandizing Joe Biden took over the debate-prepped Joe Biden? That he launched into his “I did,” “I made,” “I talked,” “I accomplished,” and on and on? He still thinks that HE is the one running for president. When Biden said that, if they win, Barack Obama wants him in on every decision, I thought to myself, “Like hell he does. He’ll have him parked in the V.P.’s house on a very short leash.” Who’d want to listen to Biden go on and on every day?

ALSO: Joe Biden misstated (aka lied) in tonight’s debate:

“Sarah Palin Is The October Surprise!” — that’s the headline in an e-mail I just received. So true.

Below, the official statement from McCain/Palin on the debate:

McCain-Palin 2008 Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker issued the following statement on tonight’s Vice Presidential Debate:

“Tonight, Governor Palin proved beyond any doubt that she is ready to lead as Vice President of the United States. She won this debate, putting Joe Biden on defense on energy, foreign policy, taxes and the definition of change. Governor Palin laid bare Barack Obama’s record of voting to raise taxes, opposing the surge in Iraq, and proposing to meet unconditionally with the leaders of state sponsors of terror. The differences between the Obama-Biden ticket and the McCain-Palin ticket could not have been clearer. The American people saw stark contrasts in style and worldview. They saw Joe Biden, a Washington insider and a 36-year Senator, and Governor Palin, a Washington outsider and a maverick reformer. Governor Palin was direct, forceful and a breath of fresh air.”

    I wonder what debate the MSM watched? Except for FOX and a few exceptions on the other networks, they resoundingly say Biden won. That’s not the debate i watched. I think Patrick Buchanan on MSNBC was correct in that Palin washed the floor with Biden.

        The polls up right now where you can vote multiple times mean nothing. With that being said, I thought Palin did a really good job. I was expecting a disaster much like her interviews with Couric and Gibson. But, she held her own pretty damned good and even got in a few jabs of her own. Will it change much? I doubt it. It will give Republicans a chance to breathe again, and not have to worry about what silly thing she might say in an interview, but that’s about it. You do have to admit that those interviews she gave did not help McCain one bit. What I am getting tired of hearing is the word “maverick”. It is overused by that campaign and it really has no meaning. I thought it was pretty funny when Biden went off after hearing the word one too many times. After that, Palin didn’t mention it again. I laughed a little harder at that than her quip “Say it ain’t so, Joe”.

      I donated to McCain/Palin at the end of the debate also as my way of saying to Palin, “Way to go – you rocked it!” AND SHE DID!

      Palin just has that God given ability to connect with people – to hold their attention. I’m glad she went for it and wasn’t so over-rehearsed that it took her personality away. She is a much better communicator than Barack Martin Luther King, Jr. Wanna Be BUT WILL NEVER BE Obama

    I knew Biden was wrong when he looked directly into the camera and said emphatically (and repeated it for effect!!) that the US had spent more in Iraq in THREE WEEKS than we had in Afghanistan in 6 1/2 years. Well, since Joe had just established that we were spending $10 billion per month in Iraq, I knew three weeks worth of spending would equal $7.5 billion. As it stands, the US has appropriated $127 BILLION for Afghanistan since 2001 AND the US military is spending $100 million PER DAY or the equivalent of $36 BILLION per year. So how could Biden look straight into the camera and deliberately mislead America???

    I am posting this for “numbers” people who like to FACT CHECK stuff like this. Biden told a whopper there!

    I got off work at 10 est and the first thing I did was turn to the local NPR station here in central Pa.
    I was pleasantly surprised at Sarah Palin’s performance. I thought Joe Biden did O K too. Yeah, I know.
    It seems to me that there are three decent people in this race and one scum bag.
    I hope that Team Obama, Nancy and Harry don’t know if they should shit or go blind after her performance tonite.

      I agree with you. My husband and i are totally in the tank for McCain/Palin, but we think Biden is okay…it’s that God awful obama that makes us sick.
      Biden just reminded us that there were better alternatives in the ademocratic party than Obama. It should have been Clinton/Biden, I did think Joe’s attempt to humanize himself randg a little false though. i am not one to criticize another parent’s emotions shown about their children, but that choked up moment seemed planned and just rang false, especially since the eye’s didn’t get red and it was only a five second sob. I guess i am as bad as the Obots for saying such a thing, but it just seemed contrived. I know he went through hell over the deaths and injuries to his family, but this just rang false somehow.

    I attended a fundraiser for McCain last night here in Los Angeles. McCain was busy working on saving this country. Obama was at the gym. Same old.

    Cindy McCain, Megan McCain and Todd Palin were at the event. Dennis Miller, Kelsey Grammer and others spoke and they were hysterical. I have to say…there’s a real big difference in seeing the McCains and the Palins, a bunch of people who love America…and then seeing these snarky, vile, nasty, disgusting pieces of S**T the Obamas and Biden, etc. It’s so clear that one side is fresh, American, moral, ethical and honest, while the other is just full of hate, anger, rage and lies. I haven’t been able to watch Barky for months. He makes my skin crawl as his hate for America and lies pour out of his mouth.

    I am so proud tonight. McCain and Palin are going to take it. Trust me. Barky and Snarky are done. To hell with them. This is America not Cuba.

    I am going to see Palin on Saturday. I can’t wait. And I will tell you now that my Hillary friends that were on the fence are wayyyy over the fence and voting for McCain. 18,000,000 voters who were lied to, cheated, and abused by the DNC and Obama…oops, guys, you screwed up.

    Gov Palin stole the show! I thought Sen Biden’s big fat grin at times came across as patronizing. There were moments when Biden even looked a bit angry. About two-thirds into the debate you could almost hear him thinking, “This lady is a more formidable adversary than I would ever have expected.”

    Gwen Ifill handled herself well. She had to know the whole world was watching and must have decided to be on her best behavior. I still think she should have recused herself on principle.

    Even so the spin doctors on CNN & MSNBC are at it again. I turned the TV off in mental anguish after having to hear “YES WE CAN!” being endlessly chanted by the adoring Obats positioned behind Chris Tingle Leg Matthews. One of them carried a sign saying “Tina Fey 2008.” These Obats are so naive and impressionable they seem to think SNL’s Tina Fey character is interchangeable with the real Sarah Palin same as they believe their not so American idol BO is interchangeable with a real POTUS.

    Biden emphasized $12K vs. $5K regarding McCain’s health care plan. Assuming people stayed awake during that answer, they will get that $12K > $5K.

    The plan is to remove the deductibility of employer paid health care costs. Hence approximately $12K of your benefits will be taxed as though it was income.

    John McCain is only giving you back a $5K credit on your tax return. $5K is less than $12K. What a rip!

    Except it’s not. The total tax savings on $12K, if you are in the highest tax bracket, is less than $4800 (which is less than $5K, for those of you who are still awake). Most people are in a lower tax bracket, so the deductibility they would forgo is maybe closer to $3K.

    So you would pay an extra $3K in tax, but then get a $5K tax credit, leaving you $2k to the plus side.

    IOW, Joe Biden was comparing a deduction to a credit. He either meant to deceive (i.e. lied) or he is too stupid to know the difference between the two. Either way, not good form for him.

    OTOH, Sarah let this slide. Didn’t explain. Didn’t rebut.

    Those you tube videos are just the beginning – there’s sooooo much more than that. I believe a major paper will break that story as early as next week. I am appalled for the Clintons, although it’s such a complicated position they are in now. Very sad. Watching someone who deserved to be in this race, Senator Clinton, have to eat crowe with a knife in her back is horrifying. I almost want to be angry with her, but I know the tactics and threats of the DNC and, well, politics are politics.

    People attacking Palin for lack of details are the same ones who praise Obama for his generic rhetoric, and ignore how his answers lack details. It’s easy for Biden to answer questions about Obama’s voting history. “Present” works all the time. When asked about Obama’s stand on something, he can take any position because Obama has flip-flopped so much, it was true at some point.

    Which one of the media house will be fair now and say that the Obama campaign is in deep trouble when a seasoned politician like Biden had to resort to lies to try and win a debate from a newcomer from Alaska that everyone was saying for weeks that she had no place in the race.

    They said Biden strong suit was foreign policy well I just watch Palin go toe to toe with Biden on that, the small town Mayor sure did not blink on foreign policy while debating with this 36 year veteran.

    I saw her talking to the American people not at that, I saw her being gracious and honored to be given the chance to work for us and promised to do so if she is elected, in her final remark the quote from Ronald Regan was magnificent.

    Now lets see how many in the media is willing to say she put Biden to rest she was brilliant.

That said, there are those of us who will do whatever we can to make sure they can’t keep turning a blind eye. McCain will win and Hillary can run against Palin in 12. How cool would that be?????

    I found it interesting when Joe Biden mentioned the name of an ordinary American who he apparently had a conversation with at a gas pump, about the economy, and about the cost of that gas!

    Sen. Biden said the name of this “average American” is Joey Stanko. Some on a popular Conservative message board jokingly said, “I’ll bet he made that name up”.
    Now out of pure curiosity, I decided to do a quick google search, and lo and behold, “Joey Stanko” aka Joseph Stanko, Jr. is a LOBBYIST, in Washington working for Hunton & Williams!

    I truly believe there are no coincidences, and what would be the statistical chances that Joe would happen to run into “some guy” at a gas pump, speak about energy issues, and what are the chances that that “average American” would share the SAME NAME as a man who Biden is undoubtedly familiar with through his lobbying activities in Washington.     This is off-topic – and I DON’T MEAN TO SOUND CRUEL, but when Biden started getting teary-eyed about wondering if he child was ‘gonna make it’ (during that accident that took the life of his wife), I mean that’s GREAT TO DO – ANY PERSON WOULD DO SO. But I find it ironic that when Hillary almost teared up talking about her campaign and how everybody and the media seemed to be ‘out to get her’ how the media CLOBBERED HER and made her sound weak and how the Obummer supporters made fun of her.

    Of course, there is NO COMPARISON about how awful one would feel between a political campaign and the death, almost death or sickness of a family member. But, I just find it ironic that Hillary (a ‘woman’) gets clobbered for having HUMAN emotions (even though it was ‘only’ a campagin) while Biden (a ‘man’) gets a pass.

    Again, I feel sorry for Biden and it was HUMAN of him to get emotional; I just wish Hillary – or any other WOMAN would receive the same consideration – that it’s O.K. and HUMAN to feel/show emotion regardless of WHAT the issue is. Emotion is emotion and how one feels about certain things varies from one person to another.

    The comments came from Sean Cairncross, the party’s chief lawyer, during a conference call with reporters in the wake of a report that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) had hired at least seven felons as voter registration workers in the city…
    So far this year, Milwaukee election officials have referred to the Milwaukee County district attorney’s office 49 cases of people who submitted potentially fraudulent registration cards. In some cases, the groups flagged the problems for the city.
    On Monday, a 21-year-old Community Voters Project worker became the first person charged with voter fraud in the matter. Authorities say they expect more charges, but note that charges will not be filed in all cases cited by the city.
    This week, the Associated Press reported that ACORN had hired as voter registration workers in Milwaukee at least seven felons convicted of crimes including cocaine possession and robbery.
    Carolyn Castore, state political director for the group, told the AP: “We have a lot of folks with felony records and, frankly, they need jobs.”
    The staff of the state Government Accountability Board issued an opinion April 3 that convicted felons are not allowed to serve as registration workers.
    The City of Milwaukee elections office was unaware of the opinion and interpreted state law in the area to apply only to those felons still on probation or parole.
    ACORN interpreted the law the same way, Castore told the AP. Nowhere in materials provided by state election officials did it say that felons were barred from registering voters, she said.
