The NRA has been a rabid dog since the Cincinnati Revolt of 1977. In my only bout of prescience, I split the blanket with the NRA in 1972: It was top heavy with reactionary nut cases even then.

It needs to be put down.

In California you are checked out to see if you aren’t a felon, a mental case, a stalker/wife/husband beater, etc. and you have a ten day or so waiting period. If you don’t want to wait, buy an axe.

If you are none of the above, you can buy a weapon. If you are any of the above,
(a) I don’t want you in the community and, failing that,
(b) I don’t want you to have more firepower than I have.

No honest man is denied the right to purchase a weapon here. If the laws in your state are different, tough. If you are not an honest man, stay away.

As for the infamous MB whitey tape, I don’t care if it exists or not. The mere rumor of it has been effective.

And if it exists, you can bet there are many copies, so nobody could never buy it and bury it. It would still exist. It’s not like it’s the Zapruder 8mm of JFK.

John McCain is an honorable man who has run a typical campaign. It hasn’t been any worse than BO’s, and less so by most standards. John McCain will not dishonor himself by mucking up racial tensions like this “whitey tape” that some people carry on about. If anyone is trying to hang their hopes on that tape coming from the Republican Party or John McCain’s campaign, fugedaboutit. It won’t come from them, on McCain’s orders if need be. He is not a racist, and will not be responsible for a campaign where race is exploited. How would he ever explain that to his adoptive daughter, for starters. And having been smeared with racism in two different ways in campaigns, first by Bush’s campaign in 2000 over his adopted daughter, and now with the BO race card, he won’t fight in that gutter.

For those of you who are expecting to see a lot of TV ads exploiting racial themes, however warranted that might seem (to some) in these circumstances, don’t look for it from the Republican Party or McCain, look for it from a 527 group that can’t be tied to them. They’re not idiots.

If there are anti-black racists in this group, I’m not aware of them. But I see a lot of posts calling for an ad campaign against BO’s BLT ties. I think those things should be public knowledge, but no honorable person would want to see more racial tension in this country. And we have many AA members here, some much more worthy than most of the others here. I don’t think any of the core NQ people want to see race exploited in retaliation for the race card we get faced with. We don’t need a race war in this country.

Having said all that, I despise racism from any person of any race about another person of a different race, and I don’t distinguish which is which. I will denounce black racism as much as white racism. But that doesn’t mean we should want a good man like John McCain to win the election based on racial exploitation.

His opponent is the one taking that low road.

Anyone deciding to exercise this right, if you haven’t been around weapons, take a qualified class on gun safety. If you have been around them, keep the rules.
All firearms are loaded. Period.
Never assume otherwise. Gun safety is paramount. Next is hitting the target. Learn how to aim.
My teacher taught to focus closely on the front sight through the back sight and line those two on the fuzzy target in the distance. It really works! Enjoy!
