Open Thread * It Matters How You Respond (or Don’t), Mr. Obama [Update]

UPDATE: This is from John McCain’s speech today in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which several readers have told me is one of the best speeches they’ve heard him give recently. C-Span has the full speech (thanks, Andy). Here’s a YouTube clip:

Thanks to our regular reader, Jim, for sending along Newsday‘s Spin Cycle blog report today, “Video: Obama didn’t know about Ayers?“:

[...] Today, on CNN, Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod asserted that Obama didn’t even know about Ayers’ radical past as a founder of the Weathermen. On the surface, that is possible — Ayers was also the son of a former CEO of Commonwealth Edison, a member of a wealthy family, and a prominent education professor at the University of Illinois.

But bringing it up seems to be a tactical error. [...]

It seems defensive. It opens up a factual issue that will merit more journalism, and more attention — can anyone contradict Axelrod? When did Obama find out who Ayers was? Already, paper is flying out of the McCain camp:

Does Barack Obama truly expect the American people to believe that he had no idea about his friend’s past as the infamous founder of the domestic terror group ‘The Weather Underground’ or is he just lying? If Obama didn’t know in 1995 about the bombings Ayers was responsible for, when did he find out — because Obama was promoting Ayers’ book in 1997, serving on boards with him until 2002, and trading emails and phone calls with him as recently as 2005. If Obama really was unaware of Ayers’ radical past, learning the truth doesn’t seem to have had any effect on their friendship.” …

The Newsday blogger adds, “All the McCain camp wants is for people to talk about Obama-Ayers, and Axelrod has provided fuel for the discussion.”

Who wants to bet that Sean Hannity may mention Bill Ayers tonight?

Now, I’m sure that most of the MSM will, like the New York Times, minimize the Ayers/Obama relationship. And the MSM will never mention the unusual “coincidences” in the men’s histories — such as their living about a block from each other in New York City, during Obama’s mysterious years at Columbia University.

So it will be up to us “citizen journalists” — readers and writers like you all here — to spread the word via e-mails and conversations with neighbors, relatives, and friends.

Will Barack flip off McCain in his next speech?

    • Firefly

Naw – he’ll flip off Sarah Palin – he prefers female targets because his rabid pubescent fans get a bigger charge out of it – and so does 0bama, apparently.

Can’t you just see barky and his “inner circle” high-fiving each other after he (thinks he) got away with flipping off Hillary?

I was considering this exact point.

Bush’s ability to weasel his way through the past several years, amounts to refusing to give airtime to any legitimate beef raised by the media/opposition.

If axelrod had kept his mouth shut, it would slide off uhbama.

The issue of Obama’s asociations isn’t going away no matter what his surrogates say or do. The more information the general public gets, the more they will want answers.

Ayers will be joined by Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School….

One hundred years later, the system is “overcrowded, under-funded, over-centralized and racist,” Ayers said.

Michelle Obama, Associate Dean of Student Services and Director of the University Community Service Center, hopes bringing issues like this to campus will open a dialogue between members of the University community and the broader community.

          ……………………………………..

How are they going to explain Michelle Obama praising Ayers too? Not to mention the other panelist Barrack Obama!

        • SBwa

The problem is that the information is not coming out. Take Rezko, for example. His sentencing hearing was supposed to take place in a week or two. Now, he’s struck a deal with the prosecutor. He’s gonna “sing” and implicate some politicians, but agreed to do so only if he can do it after the election.

With respect to Ayers, people need to look back at Obama’s time at Columbia University in NY. Ayers was attending a college 4 blocks away, getting his masters degree. Given that nobody at Columbia remembers Obama and that he says he sought out the attention of radicals, I can’t help but think that his friendship with Ayers has its roots in NY.

Then there is his cousin, Raila Odinga. Obama campaigned for him in Kenya. This is a guy who wanted to impose Shari’a law onto Christians.

    • Urban Hillbilly

Axelrod acts like he didn’t even have a plan for the topic.

Barack’s probably back to practicing for the debate (or he should be).

      IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
Obama Campaign Now Claims Obama Didn’t Know About Ayers’ Past

“Our Jim Acosta talked with your senior strategist David Axelrod about this. In 1995, William Ayers held kind of a get-to-know you event at his place where he was introducing Barack Obama to the political culture there in Chicago when he was running for the State Senate for the first time. David Axelrod said that at that meeting Senator Obama was not aware of Ayers’ radical background.” — CNN’s John Roberts

      CNN’s “American Morning”
      October 6, 2008

CNN’s John Roberts: “I just want to try to get to the heart of it so that people at home can understand. Our Jim Acosta talked with your senior strategist David Axelrod about this. In 1995, William Ayers held kind of a get-to-know you event at his place where he was introducing Barack Obama to the political culture there in Chicago when he was running for the State Senate for the first time. David Axelrod said that at that meeting Senator Obama was not aware of Ayers’ radical background. Is that true?”

Obama Senior Strategist Robert Gibbs: “Look, if that’s what David said, that is true. Look, again, this is a relationship, excuse me, that Barack Obama has condemned the actions of Bill Ayers. This is somebody that The New York Times said Barack Obama’s not close to, and, again, John, this is a way of distracting the American people from what’s important.”

Watch The New Obama Campaign Defense

FACT CHECK: Axelrod Has Said Ayers And Obama Are “Certainly Friendly,” And The Obama Campaign Has NEVER BEFORE SAID Obama Didn’t Know Ayers’ Radical And Violent History — But Has Referred To Him As “Respected Advisor” To Chicago Mayor

When Politico First Reported On Obama’s 1995 Meeting At William Ayers’ Home Reportedly Launching His Campaign, The Obama Campaign Never Said He Didn’t Know Ayers’ Radical History. “In 1995, State Senator Alice Palmer introduced her chosen successor, Barack Obama, to a few of the district’s influential liberals at the home of two well known figures on the local left: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. While Ayers and Dohrn may be thought of in Hyde Park as local activists, they’re better known nationally as two of the most notorious — and unrepentant — figures from the violent fringe of the 1960s anti-war movement. … I can remember being one of a small group of people who came to Bill Ayers’ house to learn that Alice Palmer was stepping down from the senate and running for Congress,’ said Dr. Quentin Young, a prominent Chicago physician and advocate for single-payer health care, of the informal gathering at the home of A yers and his wife, Dohrn. [Palmer] identified [Obama] as her successor.’ Obama’s campaign dismisses the notion that his relationship with Ayers should be seen through the lens of the latter’s violent past, or his present lack of regret for the bombings. … He described Ayers as a professor of education at the University of Illinois-Chicago and a former aide to Mayor Richard J. Daley,’ referring to printed reports that he had “advised” Daley on school reform. Dr. Young and another guest, Maria Warren, described it similarly: as an introduction to Hyde Park liberals of the handpicked successor to Palmer, a well-regarded figure on the left. When I first met Barack Obama, he was giving a standard, innocuous little talk in the living room of those two legends-in-their-own-minds, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn,’ Warren wrote on her blog in 2005. They were launching him — introducing him to the Hyde Park community as the best thing since sliced bread.’” (Ben Smith, “Obama Once Visited 60s Radicals,” The Politico, 1/22/08)

When Senator Hillary Clinton Made Similar Attack, Obama Campaign NEVER Made Argument That He Didn’t Know About Obama’s Radical And Violent Past. (Obama For America, “Fact Check On Obama And Ayers, factcheck.barackobama.com, 4/17/08)

Obama Campaign Argued That Ayers Was “Respected Advisor” To Chicago Mayor Daley, And That “Charges Against Ayers Were Dropped And He Served No Time.” (Obama For America, “Fact Check On Obama And Ayers, factcheck.barackobama.com, 4/17/08)

Axelrod Has Previously Said Obama And Ayers Are “Certainly Friendly.” AXELROD: “They’re certainly friendly, they know each other, as anyone whose kids go to school together.” (Ben Smith, “Ax On Ayers,” http://www.politico.com, 2/26/08)

Two Years After Meeting Ayers, Obama Published “Rave Review” Of Ayers’ Book In The Chicago Tribune, And Jointly Appeared On Academic Panels Together. “The two men were involved in efforts to reform the city’s education system. They appeared together on academic panels, including one organized by Michelle Obama to discuss the juvenile justice system, an area of mutual concern. Mr. Ayers’s book on the subject won a rave review in The Chicago Tribune by Mr. Obama, who called it a searing and timely account.’” (Jo Becker and Christopher Drew, “Pragmatic Politics, Forged On The South Side,” The New York Times, 5/11/08)

Here is the Barack Obama newsletter sent to me a few hours ago.

Over the weekend, John McCain’s top adviser announced their plan to stop engaging in a debate over the economy and “turn the page” to more direct, personal attacks on Barack Obama.

In the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, they want to change the subject from the central question of this election. Perhaps because the policies McCain supported these past eight years and wants to continue are pretty hard to defend.

But it’s not just McCain’s role in the current crisis that they’re avoiding. The backward economic philosophy and culture of corruption that helped create the current crisis are looking more and more like the other major financial crisis of our time.

During the savings and loan crisis of the late ’80s and early ’90s, McCain’s political favors and aggressive support for deregulation put him at the center of the fall of Lincoln Savings and Loan, one of the largest in the country. More than 23,000 investors lost their savings. Overall, the savings and loan crisis required the federal government to bail out the savings of hundreds of thousands of families and ultimately cost American taxpayers $124 billion.

        Sound familiar?

In that crisis, John McCain and his political patron, Charles Keating, played central roles that ultimately landed Keating in jail for fraud and McCain in front of the Senate Ethics Committee. The McCain campaign has tried to avoid talking about the scandal, but with so many parallels to the current crisis, McCain’s Keating history is relevant and voters deserve to know the facts — and see for themselves the pattern of poor judgment by John McCain.

So at noon Eastern on Monday, October 6th, we’re releasing a 13-minute documentary about the scandal called “Keating Economics: John McCain and the Making of a Financial Crisis” — it will be available at KeatingEconomics.com, along with background information that every voter should know.

Watch a preview right now and share it with your friends:
        http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/keatingvideo

The point of the film and the web site is that John McCain still hasn’t learned his lesson.

And this time, McCain’s bankrupt economic philosophy has put our economy at the brink of collapse and put millions of Americans at risk of losing their homes.

Watch the video to see why John McCain’s failed philosophy and poor judgment is a recipe for deepening the crisis:

        http://my.barackobama.com/keatingvideo

It’s no wonder John McCain would rather spend the last month of this election smearing Barack’s character instead of talking about the top priority issue for voters.

But if we work together, we can make sure the focus stays on the economy — and how to fix it.

My grandparents made it through the Great Depression, maybe they stood in soup lines but they did it, they survived and we will too. But I’d rather survive in a free country with a free marketplace, free press, individual rights, state’s rights and adherence to the principles of democracy and the Constitution. Don’t try and scare anybody Barry, it won’t work. There are things worse than a bad economy, like countries that let radicals take over and suddenly all their freedoms are gone.

Obama is so caught up in covering his many lies, he has to time to focus on the economy or anything else. If he is elected, his preoccupation with covering up his lies will continue.

            • Leisa

              Perry,

You are acting like the jilted lover with the Democratic Party. I know your reservations, but right now, we have to stand up for the principles of the Democratic Party that attracted us to them in the first place…

Our party is dead with Obama as it’s leader. We watched things we believed in like fair elections, UHC, women’s rights, gay rights and gay marriage, separation of church and government, free speech, and FISA be dismissed because the powers within our party put idea before ideals.

You do not have to support McCain or Obama, but your repeated digs are ineffective because you and I both know that Obama will be worse than the shrub.

Please do some soul searching before you post these pesky things we already know, but are putting on the back burner because we want our party back.

              Thanks,

Do not speak of what you do not know. There are still many of us who have parents and grandparents who emigrated from places like Ukraine, Russia, Germany etc and know what it is like to live under a centralized government, a nationalized economy and a Marxist ideology–do you know that all they lived with is fear and intimidation, indoctrination of their children–your boss espouses and has already practiced all of these. Look at Ayers, Wright and the others, they don’t want to change America for the better, they want to divide people, class against class, race against race this is the beginning of totalitarianism. And your boss has already used the rhetoric of division. The real Jesus of the new testament said “Man does not live by bread alone” and he means that we shouldn’t place material comforts over individual liberty and democratic principles. “Give me liberty or give me death” the revolutionary Patrick Henry knew that economy cannot be placed above freedom.

Oil maybe dropping, but the price per gallon of heating oil sure isn’t. I just filled my tank, it’s getting cold up here and I didn’t want to gamble running out while trying to play the market. Writing that HUGE check was painful. “Sarah the Energy Czarina” can’t come fast enough for me. That is what McCain should do- send her out to battleground northern states and hammer home on energy.

        • Jim S

South of Boston I just paid $2.99 for gas and heating oil is at $3.19. Going to hold off on oil for a few more days, I figure it might hit $2.80 or so.

          • Carol

Here in Central Oregon, I paid $3.49/gal for gas today.

      • Diana

Amazing isn’t it? Gas has dropped 77 dollars a barrel and we’ve gotten a whole 2 cent drop at the pump. What exactly is the gas companies reasonings for this? Think they were making record profits at 167 dollars a barrel, imagine what they’re raking in now with the price gouging. We’re not headed for a Civil War, we’re headed for the French Revolution! ;)

Thank you Susan for the video, after hearing him defend Sarah I kept saying this is the John we need. I’d still like to see even more passion from him. Remember when he got excited at the end of his convention speech, he sent chills. I wanted to stand up and fight with him, stand beside him for America. He showed that same kind of passion for his choice in Sarah when he defended her. He schooled the reporter. That is the John we need. He has his moments. I just wish he had a few more.

The McCain camp needs to make an ad out of this portion of his speech. Play some really moving patriotic music in the background, add moving scenes of Americana. And just hammer it home.

Thank you Pennsylvania, still amazing. Now that’s what should send chills to every American. It reaches out and grabs you right at the core of your being, because you hear the honesty in his voice when he says it. The Dow drop is reflective of the underlying economic fears. And it’s fears.

There will be a good solid core of American stock companies which are actually unrelated to this mess and doing OK. They won’t be fancy returns, but it will calm the market down.

The DOW was bound to adjust. Frankly, over 10,000 is inflated.

      • stodghie

yeah and i notice that the poster doesn’t mean the dow made up for part of the loss as well. dang it is so much fun to run around scaring the shix out of everyone with promises of obambi fixing it. hell obambi even get his own home purchased by himself. anyone who didn’t think that there would be continued mayhem today after the world reaction, they are just plain out of it.

Maybe the dow is dropping the markets are reacting that way because of fear that Obama may become POTUS, has anyone taken a look at things from that angle?

Google exit polls 2004. Then google hand recount 2004. Feast your eyes on why the recount was stopped. Then google ACORN 2004. Then go to one of the archived web sites that stores past polls, articles, not what they have posted now. You’re the one that is wrong. Then take a gander at the link I posted above 67 more electoral votes on Nov 1, then Bush. Take a look at how blue that map is compared to Obama’s.

      • vdavisson

Don’t listen to the bogus generic polls! Offer to make calls or walk your precinct! Polls are designed to discourage the supporters on the down side. Call the R headquarters nearby and offer to help! Make sure you register to vote in time, too!!

        • meileen

See, and the way I’m looking at it is quite the opposite. Obama’s campaign is counting on the youngins, and my hunch is they will believe he is so ahead in the polls that they don’t have to show up to vote. And I look forward to their tears on November 5th.

    • Duras

I think it’s too late, Jade. I love McCain, but I don’t think that there’s any way that he can overcome the combination of the American people’s disenchantment with George Bush AND these calamitous headlines of economic doom & gloom that now dominate the newspapers and the airwaves.

Two weeks ago, McCain/Palin were in good shape. And then the roof fell in on Wall Street and, by extension, on their campaign as well. The timing of all this couldn’t have been any better for Obama.

        Here’s a very simple timeline:

2000 – Republicans steal the Presidential election and achieve control over all three branches of government. For the next six years, they apply their crackpot economic policies and do their best to tear down the New Deal.

2008 – America teeters on the brink of the Second Great Depression.

Coincidence? Only to a Republican. ;-)

        • Pat

You left out the part about the economy being good until 2006 and then it started faltering until it is where it is now-AND THE DEMOCRATS GOT THE MAJORITY IN CONGRESS AS OF 2006. The Repubs have certainly made their mistakes but it was the Dems that put the economy into a tailspin and , if Obama is elected, that tailspin will be a CRASH!!

          • Carol

That is so very true Pat.

PPH polling is in the bag for Obama; they have been since the primaries. They poll more AA’s than in the population as a whole.

    • savage

it makes you wonder , why now are they focusing on guilt by association tactics?

      like you said:

      “It’s the economy stupid”

“It’s the corrupt economy stupid” and Oblowme is up to his eyeballs in it!

    • Carol

Uh, Jade I hate to point this out, but the Dems pushed this bailout through with a few Republicans that were afraid of losing their re-election. I can still see Deer Caught in the Headlights Pelosi with her grinning Dem minions rushing out and announcing that the bailout bill had passed the House and was being rushed up to Bush for signing. I even heard that the Dems are praising Obama the Great for getting this done. Sooooo, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but this boondoggle of a bailout is all on the Democrats’ shoulders.

For this election season, I am not a Democrat. I will help take my party back from you ultra ultra left liberals after this is all said and done.

I think mac is just stirring the pot until the debate. Frankly, it’s a relief for most people to worry over this instead of flipping out over the stock market.

The dow dropped 800 points today, just a word to the wise…

It’s the economy stupid. If McCain wants to win, he better focus on the economy.

    In other sobering news
    Public Policy Polling (D)

If McCain loses VA, NC, IN, OH OR FL- He lost- McCain has ALOT of work to do…

    • AnninCA

He is preparing for Tuesday. I presume he has a very strong and bold economic message coming, which is a benefit.

O is in “maintain the status quo” stage.

      • FranSC

I don’t think historical voting patterns fit this time. A “throw the rascals out” mentality might work for a main-stream candidate on the opposing side, but in the end, I don’t see how this works for Obama – he came out of no where, with no long standing reliable record, has had questionable major figures in his life, along with a secret past that he thinks is irrelevant.

Once the stock market settles down I think the polls will go back to where they were before. It makes no sense to hand the crisis over to a neophyte who you know does not have a clue as to where to start.

    • Goblintrain

? What did Obama ever do for the economy other than promise to raise taxes, & increase govt spending exponentially.

    • Soldier of Christ

So you are saying out of millions of people- 1200 individuals really tell us what is going on in those states? Hummmm……the 1200 doesn’t speak for the rednecks in North Carolina, child. Or even the enormous grassroots……..

      • FranSC

Not only that, but it is a virtual impossibility for Obama to carry NC. It does not matter that 40% of the democratic primary voters were AA who voted 90% for him. Nor does it matter that the other 16% of the vote he got came from students and young professionals.

As I keep saying, the republican on-slaught in that state is unnerving to any democrat who has witnessed many great democratic candidates go down to defeat there in the general election. For Obama to be the exception would indeed be a sea change.

  • Urban Hillbilly

I would appreciate it if MSM would investigate the facts of Ayers and Obama’s relationship.

    • lusitania

They are not investigating it in the right way. They need to be focusing on Ayers redical views regarding education and Obamas support of those radical views. I’ve said this before here.

“If Obama is elected, how can we be sure he won’t appoint Ayers as Secretary of Education”. And with Obama serving up so much Koolaid there in the White House and Congress’ commissary who is gto say he won’t get the nod.

God help us if he is elected.

What type of community organizing did Obama do in New York? Fox contacted 400 of his classmates and no one knew him back then? Is it really just a coincidence that Ayers lived a block away from Columbia while Obama was a student there?

TexasDarlin has some great blogs about this.

        • Thinker

          I know right?

People say Obama is sooo smart, but he’s the same man that said he pressed the wrong button:

          Not once

          Not twice

          Not three times,

Not four or five times, but 6 TIMES!!

          • Eden

I don’t think he’s so smart. I scoff at the idea he is brilliant. He’s just an accomplished bullshit artist.

His IQ is at least 20 points below Hillary’s and Sarah’s.

He’s been publically campaigning for 20 months, and working towards it for how many years before that? He sure hasn’t been busy doing his real jobs–he’s been being stringed by the puppetmasters.

        • vjhinFla

Exactly, trixta!! He has established a very consistent pattern with his lies about all the dubious characters he has associatied with.

First with Rezko, he patently denied any association with him at first, then it was well, I did a few hours of work for him at the law firm, then the bone-headed deal they made concerning the purchase of Obama’s mansion – and of course the best gem of them all “That’s not the Tony Rezko I knew!”

Then of course Rev. Wright. When the story first broke, he denied any knowledge of such incendiary sermons, then he says well, yeah, he can be pretty hard on people, he’s like an old eccentric uncle, blah, blah could no more disown than his grandmother…blah, blah…

Why doesn’t the MSM call him on this pattern for what it is!?!? LYING!! He has lied everytime when questioned about these associates and nobody seems to care or think that it is relevant to anything in this campaign.. I am just sick about this whole mess.

    • oowawa

Actually, the story becomes (as Shiloh quipped in an earlier post):

“What did he not know and when did he not know it?”

  • Manu

America is threading on a dangerous path called ‘hope’ and ‘change’. The stranglehold that the media has on this political narrative is breathtaking and scary. Never before have we seen the media act so irresponsibly and avoid discussing the important issues…Then again, they’re the ones who let Bush get away with invading Iraq by never questioning his motives. So, perhaps it’s not surprising that that the MSM now wants to throw America under Obama’s bus.

    • AnninCA

Oh goodness, historically speaking, I’m afraid you’re wrong. The history of the press is quite fascinating and not remotely responsible, btw.

      Yellow journalism IS the norm.

ContrarianCommentary.com has organized an investigative strike force to examine “Obama’s Hidden Hawaii.” Martin says the “effete, elite” media have ignored Obama’s formative years. Most of the “reporting” on Obama’s Hawaii upbringing is based on Obama’s own “imaginary autobiography” say Martin. “We are sending a ‘new Hawaii Five-0′ to dig for the facts on Barack Obama’s history. We have a mountain of leads and tips taller than Diamond Head. Each one has to be thoroughly investigated.” “Operation Aloha Obama” begins October 15th.

Honolulu: “Operation Aloha Obama” begins October 15th
ContrarianCommentary.com unleashes investigative strike force in Hawaii

“Obama is ostensibly the first Hawaiian-born person to run for president, but you would never know that from listening to him,” says anti-Obama author and Internet editor/columnist Andy Martin. “He sure does not seem proud of the fact. Hawaii does not exist in Obama’s political consciousness. He doesn’t mention the place.

“Mainstream media have failed to do any meaningful investigation in Hawaii; as a result, we have been flooded with leads, tips and other information which we feel should be investigated. We had to pursue what the others would not.

“We already have advance work in progress, researching what is available of Obama’s history, and laying the groundwork for a discovery of what is hidden. Ironically, no other media will be devoting as much effort to studying Obama’s ‘Hawaii years’ as we are. Americans are being asked to vote for a candidate about whom little is known of his formative years.

“The Democrats and elite media were reported to have sent dozens of investigators to Alaska to research Sarah Palin. How many people have they sent to Hawaii to research Obama’s past?

“The team will me made up of a combination of veterans and volunteers, all tied together by the Internet. The task force will meet twice a day, to review progress and divide up assignments.

An observation. We know that in 1995, State Senator Alice Palmer introduced Obama, “to a few of the district’s influential liberals at the home of two well known figures on the local left: William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.” http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8630.html What does Alice Palmer have to say about what Obama knew?

Although, Alice Palmer “introduced” them, they have known each other much longer than that.

Red State.com reminds the Obama campaign about their own Penny Pritzker:

Barack Obama is attacking John McCain today over the Keating 5, a little remembered scandal from the eighties, after which McCain repented and went on to fight to reform Congress.

Meanwhile Barack Obama has another member of the Keating 5, John Glenn, out campaigning for him.

But this is bigger than just John Glenn. Obama claims McCain can’t be trusted because the Keating 5 had something to do with the S&L crisis of the eighties. What about the subprime mortgage crisis of today?

Just look to Penny Pritzker, Obama’s National Finance Chair and a long time supporter.

I am supporting Mac because I think he’s smart. We’ll see Tuesday if I’m right.

He needs to knock it outta the park as far as intellectual honesty and forthright talk.

He needs to really shake the peach tree.

And he needs to own his part in Keating 5, talk about what he learned, and challenge O.

Even if he loses, that is absolutely the only way he will come out of this mess with a history, well-earned, of grace and dignity.

Tell it like it is, Mac. This is the time.

      • ohio

Annin, McCain has already talked about his part in the Keating 5, in his book and on the road and interviews. This is what made him so against the way Washington is ran. It’s what makes him against any earmarks. He has said before that earmarks can corrupt politicians. So he doesn’t do them. He doesn’t want to be “beholding” to anyone.

        • AnninCA

That’s why I think he’ll handle this deftly.

          It’s a non-issue, except if you’re an Obot.

BUT…..I completely agree with Rove. He’s going to lose unless he startles us with a very clear, cogent, and compelling economic recovery plan.

Both candidates are offering us all nothing right now.

We’re headed into the perfect storm, and the captains are saying: oh crapola.

We either hear a positive solution message somewhere, or it’s going to be a “vote the rascals out” year.

Mac has to convince people that he’s earned his maverick label.

At this point, all of America is Missouri.

          SHOW US.

      • Sheri rogers

        AnninCA

Keating 5 is old news already been cleared of that and he has already gone to the public about it..

What is worse is how the O-No-Bama folks are gonna try to spin it.

I have posted below an article we need to get out but I will post it again in this response

If Barack Obama is so outraged at John McCain’s involvement in the Keating Five scandal, why is John Glenn, another Keating Five member, doing surrogate work for Obama?

Obama’s presidential campaign released a scathing documentary on Monday detailing McCain’s ties to the Savings and Loan crisis on the 1980’s. Five U.S. senators were named in the scandal: Sen. Alan Cranston (D.-Calif.), Sen. Dennis DeConcini (D.-Ariz.), Sen. John Glenn (D.-Ohio), Sen. John McCain (R.-Ariz.) and Sen. Donald Reigle (D-Minn.).

“The Keating scandal is eerily similar to today’s credit crisis, where a lack of regulation and cozy relationships between the financial industry and Congress has allowed banks to make risky loans and profit by bending the rules,” reads a trailer for the video on a website created by the Obama campaign to attack McCain, http://www.keatingeconomics.com. “And in both cases, John McCain’s judgment and values have placed him on the wrong side of history.

But Obama doesn’t seem to have any quarrel with Glenn. The former Democratic Ohio senator introduced Bruce Springsteen at a benefit concert for Obama in Ohio on Sunday, October 5. He’s also done other surrogate work for Obama as well. According to Obama’s presidential website Glenn held a conference calls with reporters for Obama in August.

A day after Glenn urged people to register to vote for Obama in Ohio, Obama’s campaign began a multimedia campaign to remind the public McCain was one of the “Keating Five” although he was eventually cleared of all charges.

Like McCain, Glenn was also found not guilty of violating any Senate rules.

Attorney John Dowd, who represented McCain during the Senate Ethics investigation, said Senate Democrats conducted a “classic political smear job” on McCain in the Keating Five scandal.

“When it was discovered Keating was pushing too hard, he [McCain] threw Keating out of his office and ended all relations with him,” Dowd said.

        • Mr. Natural

The deepest irony is that four out five of the “Keating Five” were Democrats. Although acquitted of midbehavior early on, McCain was kept in simply because the Democrats were desperate to make the corruption appear bipartisan.

    • Jules

after which McCain repented and went on to fight to reform Congress.

And don’t forget that McCain was exonerated of any wrong doing related to the Keating 5.

If you want to read how this whole current mortgage crisis began…here it is. The NY Times called it right on September 30, 1999.

    • countryfirst_obamanever

The dow started going up after Mac’s speech in New Mexico. Go figure. :-)

  • Duras

A new poll taken for CNN/Money Magazine shows that nearly 2/3 of the American public now believes that a full-blown “depression” … not a recession, but a depression …. is either very likely or somewhat likely. This is, of course, idiocy. But the point is that no matter how much dirt the GOP has on Obama, in this environment I don’t think it’s gonna matter. People are simply scared, and they’re going to vote against the party in the White House that they perceive as having gotten them into this mess. Most of them aren’t even remotely politicaly astute enough to understand that it is the Democrats who have for years been protecting Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the sub-prime mortgage market. Instead, they will reflexively blame Bush and vote for Obama.

It’s been said that people get the government they deserve. Maybe that’s the case this time. As a people, we have become soft, lazy, spoiled and sloppy. Maybe we deserve socialism.

    • Shiloh

Of course the purpose of that bogus poll is not to measure what people think but to TELL them what they think. That kind of fear is the only hope Obama has and he knows it.

      • Duras

Granted, most of the American public couldn’t tell you who the current Secretary of State is even if you showed them her picture. But unfortunately, their vote counts just as much as yours or mine. And right now, they’re scared and that doesn’t bode well for the incumbent party in the White House.

        • Maverick

That would be the NeoCon party. Mac is not part of the NeoCon party. He’s taking his party back like we Dems will take our party back from the radical lefties.

          • Duras

People aren’t fed up with Bush because he’s a “neo-con”. That’s just a tired liberal buzzword to me. They use it to describe any conservative just like conservatives use “moonbat” to describe liberals.

Most Americans are fed up with Bush because of his arrogance, his staggering incompetence, his blatant cronyism in appointing people to important positions based on their personal loyalty to him rather than on their ability, and the fact that he has made absolutely zero progress over the past eight years on addressing issues that are critical for this country, including entitlement reform, immigration, education, and now this mortgage mess.

    • AnninCA

I have more faith. I think people are polling very emotionally. The swing is for O, but that’s obviously “soft” poll results.

No way do people swing so fast in 3 weeks if it’s not just sheer frustration.

I think Mac has a very good shot at tightening. He just needs to bring it back about 4 or 5 points. He can do that.

      Pal has done her part.

Now, he’s got to bring it home.

If the truth is that he has no economic message?

Well, then…….shoot, we’re as well of with O as with Mac.

      Who cares?

      • sjc-tx

Problem is as it has been all along… The feckin media repeat obassole’s lies and propoganda, and spin McCain negatively. The same way they did to Hillary. I’m not worried about the economy as much as I am of the censorship and hype of the dishonest media…

        • AnninCA

Franky, sjc…..that’s just what we’re stuck with. That’s the condition of our press, which is representative of our mindset, which has led to the underlying conditions, and which is now the upshot of our economic situation.

In short, we are reaping what we sowed.

    • Pennsylvania goes RED!

People are simply scared, and they’re going to vote against the party in the White House that they perceive as having gotten them into this mess

      I disagree.

What is occurring now is a level above simple malaise about the economy. When the citizenry is frightened for their future, they will look to an experienced leader, not a professional candidate with too much baggage.

In a time of crisis, the voters will gravitate to a known quantity, not a question mark in a designer suit.

    • Dr. Kate

      Not so fast.

The bots truly are “bots.” They come in here with cut and paste posts that are laughable out of date. The dow dropped 800 points today? And then it regained over half of that. There is not the weakness in the market the Obama campaign is hoping for. Make no mistake, Barack Obama wants the US economy to collapse as much as possible. He knows that with the revelations about his past that are coming, that kind of fear is the only hope he has. Fear and instability is what propelled Hitler into office too.

If Axelrod claims Obama knew nothig of Ayers sorted past in 1995 then Obama should release his Columbia U records as proof of Obama being a total failure in his chosen major there of Political Science because the buzz and reporting everywhere in the early 1980′s was Dohrn’s arrest in connection with refusal to testify about Broadway Baby’s and the Brinks Heist that killed a cop.

Funny how Axelrod actually puts his foot in his mouth either by calling Obama a flake when in school and not keeping current on the political scene while being a Political Science major or proves what a disgusting bunch of liars Campaign Obama really is!

I just read this very interesting article about the recent poll swings in favor of Obama. It takes exception with the party identification numbers that are used (and often changed) to weigh the poll sampling. This writer thinks a far better barometer is to use policy preference (liberal, conservative, moderate) as the weighing factor and when that is done with the current polls, the results are the polar opposite of what they are now showing. Here is the meat of the article:

“Note the D-R-I split on “all voters” is 43-36-28. Most polls are weighting their sample by party affiliation, not policy preference. With the Democrat Presidential Primary drawing huge crowds and lots of GOP cross-overs to fight off Obama I would not want to put my reputation on party ID being the definitive weighting factor.
Look at the policy preference break down of Lib-Con-Mod, it is split 23-37-36 – almost the REVERSE of the party ID break down. That means if you re-run the polls using policy preference as the weighting factor you could see the polls almost flip 180°! Democrats are up by 7%, but Cons are up by 14% – twice the advantage!
Even more interesting is the undecided poll. In the Party ID view undecideds are split equally between Dem-Rep-Ind at 28-26-43. This would lead one to allocate undecideds or leaners basically down the middle between Obama and McCain since the difference left and right is a statistically insignificant 2%.
But in the policy world view the picture is dramatically different. The Lib-Con-Mod mix is heavily tilted away from Obama’s base with 18-32-47. Here we see very little opportunity for Obama to take the undecided voters. Now the imbalance is 2:1 in favor of McCain, which holds a statistically huge 14% advantage.”

    Here is the link: http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/6392

I don’t know anything about this website or the author of this information, but it makes sense to me. The one thing I feel sure of is that the pollsters will skew their polls in any way they can to make them favorable to Obama. Based on the polls some pundits are already calling the race for Obama (just like they did in the primary against Hillary). Of course we all know how the VOTING actually went AFTER the pundits were calling Obama the winner in the primary. The media are trying to capture the perception of the headline reading voter. I think (and hope) they are making a huge mistake and are in for a big surprise come November 4th.

I don’t think they would risk being dismissed as idiots, but I think they are basing it on registration numbers.

Those numbers are, in fact, unrealistic for Dems.

Here’s my own “guess.” 20% of Hill supporters…..lost. That means, the youth vote MUST turn out or he’s in trouble.

New registrations? Iffy. I don’t think that’s actually as effective as pollster think. It’s one thing to sign a form promising to vote? I have a lot of friends who have…..you ready? Never voted. The process scares them. Really.

So they would register and feel great and tell pollsters…….but they chicken out about actually voting.

It’s just very “mainstream” to vote.

That’s the truth. A guy on skidrow? Give him a buck, he’ll register. But vote?

      Come on.

      • OhVoter

If they are choosing the weight to give Dem Repub & Ind by numbers of registered Dems Repubs and Ind, then they are definitely off here in Ohio. In Ohio you cannot change your registration. Because I voted for the Democratic slate in the primary (as a Hillary voter) I am counted as a Democratic Registrant until the next time I vote in a primary. The only way to be counted as Independent in Ohio is to ask for an “issues only” ballot in the primary and NOT vote for any primary candidate. It is a stupid way of doing party affiliation but it is what we have in Ohio.

        • AnninCA

Can’t you vote Republican, however, in the GE?

I’m still registered as a Dem, but I can vote Republican in the GE. There will be 3 names, I assume…….O, Mac, and Barr. Oh wait, and Green party girl.

But my Dem registration doesn’t prohibit me in the GE.

          Isn’t it the same?

“Here is a copy of the e-mail I recieved from the OHIO Secretary of State’s office:

            Quote:
Mrs. xxxx: Thank you for your correspondence of May 12, 2008, regarding your decision to “de-register from the party of your choice.”
Whenever someone registers to vote in Ohio, their party affiliation is not part of the application. You are merely a registered voter who chooses to be associated with a political party. The way to become affiliated with a particular political party in Ohio is to vote in the State’s primary election.
Since that has just passed, in March, whatever party’s ballot that you chose is the party that you are affiliated with until the next “Primary Election.” This has no impact and does not affect how you can vote in the “General Election” in November. At that time, you can vote for any candidate from any party.
If you wish to change your party affiliation when you vote in the next primary, simply inform the poll worker that you desire a ballot for the party of your choice. At that time, you should be provided a declaration-of-intent-to-change-party form, and a ballot for the political party of your choice. From that time until then next primary election, you will be associated-affiliated with that party.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions, and I will be more than happy to help you.”

      Its deliberate, psychological deception.

I too think it is too late. I think McCain could release a tape of Obama threatening to bomb America and the sheep would still vote for him.

It’s disappointing that Palin will now be wasted. She has been destroyed in this campaign and she would have been great on a national scale someday. Once she is on a losing ticket it will be a lot harder for her.

The fact of the matter is America only cares about their own pocketbook- and they are convinced that Obama will save them.

    Keating five–

Alright guys this needs to be put out every place on the web.

O-no-bama is going to try and use the Keating five things against us. BUT

    1- McCain was exonerated
2- Sen John Glen was exonerated

O-no-Bama and crew are gonna try to use this against us BUT they have Sen Glenn on their side so it is kinda silly..

Copy this and post it everyplace you surf to and on every blog..

    • savage

      exonerated:
Alleged action(s) occurred but were justified, lawful and proper.

      Nothing was proper about this.

“McCain was criticized by the Committee for exercising “poor judgment” when he met with the federal regulators on Keating’s behalf.”

Not everyone was satisfied with the Senate Ethics Committee conclusions. Fred Wertheimer, president of Common Cause, which had initially demanded the investigation, thought the treatment of the senators far too lenient, and said, “The U.S. Senate remains on the auction block to the Charles Keatings of the world.” Joan Claybrook, president of Public Citizen, called it a “whitewash“. Jonathan Alter of Newsweek said it was a classic case of the government trying to investigate itself, labelling the Senate Ethics Committee “shameless” for having “let four of the infamous Keating Five off with a wrist tap.” Margaret Carlson of Time suspected the committee had timed its first report to coincide with the run-up to the Gulf War, minimizing its news impact. One of the San Francisco bank regulators felt that McCain had gotten off too lightly, saying that Keating’s business involvement with Cindy McCain was an obvious conflict of interest.

      • bemused

As I said elsewhere–at that time Phoenix was a small place and there were about 50 real movers and shakers who all knew each other, and everyone knew them. This does not mean everyone in Phoenix was in on corruption, it means that you couldn’t go to a cocktail party or business function of note or do business or politics without somehow crossing these people’s path. Especially Keating seemed to be everywhere. So it is no surprise at all that Cindy McCain would know Keating. Keating had a lot of people fooled, too, for a while.

        • savage

Phoenix was the 20th largest city in the US in 1990!

          2,238,498 !

That’s is a real lame excuse. I lived in Phoenix then (1974-1998) and I did not cross Keating’s path.

      • ohio

And so having John Glenn campaigning for Obama is okay with you then?

        • savage

John Glenn is not running for president. If he was, I would question his ties to the scandal as well.

Obama didn’t know, after years of association, that Ayers was a member of the Weather Underground and at one time a Federal fugitive.

Guess that intellect and education don’t cover things that are public knowledge and in the history books.

How can Obama, who likes to tell us how world-savvy he is — reading all those newspapers that Palin doesnt — not know about Dohrn. In 1981, the Weather Underground resurfaced when Kathy Boudin participated in an armed robbery in Nanuet, New York, which resulted in the shooting deaths of three men. Boudin was sentenced to 22 years in prison, and was released in 2003.

Obama was at Columbia University in NYC, when she was jailed for contempt for refusing to answer questions about the Weathermen’s criminal activity. Dohrn worked at Sidley & Austin in Chicago and was supposedly in charge of summer internts when Michelle was a summer intern there (Ayers’ father was one of Sidley’s biggest clients):

THE CITY; Bernardine Dohrn Freed by Judge
    By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

    http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C00E3D91238F935A35752C0A965948260
A Federal judge has freed Bernardine Dohrn, who was jailed seven months ago for refusing to cooperate with a Federal grand jury investigating the 1981 Brink’s armored-car robbery in Rockland County.

The judge, Gerard L. Goettel of District Court, said late Tuesday that Miss Dohrn did not have to return to the Federal jail in Manhattan from a Christmas furlough she was given Dec. 23.

Miss Dohrn, a former member of the Weather Underground, was one of several uncooperative witnesses subpoenaed by the Federal grand jury probing the aborted robbery in which two Nyack police officers and a guard were killed.

After refusing to cooperate with a demand for samples of her handwriting, Miss Dohrn was cited for contempt and jailed on May 19. She could have been jailed until the grand jury’s term expired, a maximum of 18 months.

However, Judge Goettel decided to grant a release on the ground that prosecutors had other ways to obtain samples of her handwriting and that it was unlikely she would agree to cooperate.

OH PLEASE! I watched the video. Here’s what McCain left out of his F. Mae and F. Mack profile:

    1) Aquiles Suarez, listed as an economic adviser to the McCain campaign in a July 2007 McCain press release, was formerly the director of government and industry relations for Fannie Mae. The Senate Lobbying Database says Suarez oversaw the lending giant’s $47,510,000 lobbying campaign from 2003 to 2006.

    2) The lobbying firm of Charlie Black, one of McCain’s top aides, made at least $820,000 working for Freddie Mac from 1999 to 2004.

    3) McCain campaign’s vice-chair Wayne Berman and its congressional liaison John Green made $1.14 million working on behalf of Fannie Mae for lobbying firm Ogilvy Government Relations. Green made an additional $180,000 from Freddie Mac.

    4) Arther B. Culvahouse Jr., the VP vetter who helped John McCain select Sarah Palin, earned $80,000 from Fannie Mae in 2003 and 2004, while working for lobbying and law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP.

    5) At least 20 McCain fundraisers have lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, pocketing at least $12.3 million over the last nine years.

    6) McCain campaign manager Rick Davis was head of the Homeownership Alliance, a lobbying association that included Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, real estate agents, homebuilders, and non-profits.

Since oborg are looking at polls 29 days from the election and calling it over lets look at the polls from the end of Oct to the beginning of nov. just days before the election:

    Kerry:
    Ohio +7
    New Mexico +3
    Florida +5
    http://electoral-vote.com/evp2004/nov/nov01.html

How’d that work out for Kerry?

    • HillsTheBest!

Weird…when I click on that same link I see:

      Kerry:
      Ohio +2
      New Mexico TIE
      Florida +1

      What am I missing?

Even funnier though…when you look at the raw data, you see something even more bizarre:

      Ohio:
      Nov 1, Zogby: Bush +6

Whatcha smoking over there? And where can I get some?

      • hadenough

It’s read and comprehension. Click the ‘next report’ link to see other polls.

        From my post:

          Ohhhh….NOW I get it!

OK so I clicked on “next report” and now I see:

          Ohio: Bush +3

Man, my ‘obong’ must really be on the fritz because I’m still not seeing this “Ohio +7″

I hope the Conseratives come out in droves. I want to see McCain/Palin win. I don’t appreciate people here assuming that I’m a troll or an Obot just because I view this election a little differently.

I just think Ohio is already lost due to the iodicy of their vote with no ID as many times as you want law. You know the cheating was awful there.

If McCain loses Ohio he loses. 33% of the voters this year are voting early and if 50% of them vote Obama before all the bad stuff comes out- well it’s going to be hard to make up that much ground on Nov. 4th.

    • ohio

I live near a college campus and while some of them are voting early, I know for a fact that most of these college students are not voting for Obama.

While Ayers and Dohrn may be thought of in Hyde Park as local activists, they’re better known nationally as two of the most notorious — and unrepentant — figures from the violent fringe of the 1960s anti-war movement.

The protective order request from the fraud’s camp came out at 4:45pm .. Berg lawsuit…

    http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?t=34184

    • RememberWeWill

      Quote:
4:45 p.m. — Obama, DNC File Motion for Leave to File Protective Order

I’ll pretty it up and explain things a little bit better later on this evening, but here’s what’s going on, so far and in brief:

As I was talking with one of my contacts at the courthouse about this motion, my phone rings and it is Philip Berg. He’s fired up. Apparently, he had just been contacted by John LaVelle, attorney for Barack Obama and the DNC, and asked whether he would “put off discovery until Judge Surrick ruled on the motion to dismiss.”

Until I have time to get into this more specifically, here’s the rub. Basically, the law states that Judge Surrick can order discovery even in the face of a pending dispositive motion such as the motion to dismiss filed on September 24 by Obama and the DNC. In other words, he can order full discovery, limited discovery, or none at all before ruling on the dismissal.

Just like with the amended complaint, an attorney cannot simply file a protective order but must file a motion for leave to file, essentially asking the judge if it is okay for the pleading to be filed. Make sense so far? Defense attorney John LaVelle filed such a motion this afternoon, a motion asking to file a protective order which would allow for a ruling to come down on the motion to dismiss before

While I’ll be talking to Berg more later on, here’s a snippet of what he had to say in our brief conversation:

“He’s asking to delay discovery and, Jeff, I’m obviously going to oppose it, ” he said. “This isn’t right. This just isn’t right. By tomorrow, we’ll have a response and put out a press release. The American people should hear about this and, if they do, they should go nuts. It’s time to put up or shut up.”

      • IronMan

Why are the attorneys for Obama fighting discovery? Why are they filing for a protective order now? What are they hiding?

We need to get the news media’s attention on this!

Here in the United States of America, there is today, a candidate for President that is filing motions for protective orders in Federal Court to try and prevent having to turn over proof of being a natural born US Citizen and thus, eligible to be President!!

        Barack Obama is doing this!!

That is absolutely unconscionable and MUST be exposed! That IS news!!

If Obama was who he claims to be, he’d have turned over proff long ago and this case would have been dismissed. Filing for protective orders to try and block discovery is, IMO, proof that Obama is hding something and trhying to keep the American people from finding out who the real barack Obama is.

        Spread the word!!

    • Goblintrain

Woohoo!!! This is big news! Can’t wait for the rest of the story! :=D

Amazing. Obama cannot account for millions of dollars,

Both Obama and the DNC are sending threatening then pleading letters by the bucket full (Might be a good time to apply to be a postal worker – seems recession proof).

Both Obama and the DNC are spending some of that missing millions in trying to get out of producing a single piece of paper.

George Soros is having a temper tantrum, and doing a re-play of his 90′s shenanigans with the economy.

And we have Obots swarming like crazy and whining up a storm about an almost 2 decade old scandel.

So did I get off at the wrong planet? And where the heck did they put planet earth?

  • wodiej

At a rally with over 8,000 enthusiastic supporters at an arena here Palin hit BHO again linking Obama to Ayers. Palin is citing a CNN interview today with David Axelrod who said that in 1995 when Obama met Ayers he didn’t know his radical history. The McCain campaign has been sending the story around all day (please let me know if you want me to forward it.) Palin also said that as Election Day gets closer it “may get kind of rough here” and she may have to “take the gloves off.” During her remarks several protestors tried to interrupt and chant “Obama!” And she responded with what has become her standard line with protestors about her son fighting for their right to protest. She did not address today’s stock market dive.

    BHO AND AYERS:

15:43:51 PM “One of Barack Obama’s earliest supporters is Bill Ayers. Now according to The New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, “launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol.”

15:44:11 PM “Today they’re saying for the first time that Barack Obama didn’t know back then about Ayers’s radical background. But it was only a few months ago that Barack was saying Ayers was just a ‘guy in my neighborhood.”

15:44:30 PM “But, Wait a minute. He didn’t know a few months ago that he had launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist?”

15:44:46 PM “So What’s next? Claiming their ticket doesn’t define higher taxes as “patriotic?”

15:44:52 PM “Or claiming he’s just learned that tax increases on small business kill jobs?”

15:44:59 PM “Claiming he’s just learned that American soldiers don’t actually target and kill civilians in Afghanistan?”

15:45:08 PM “Or claiming he’s surprised that the surge in the war ont errorism in iraq is a success? Oh wait, he’s already done that one.”

15:45:24 PM “Ladies and gentlemen, this is about the truthfulness and judgment needed in our next president and john mccain has it Barack Obama doesn’t have it.”

I believe with all my heart that Sarah Palin knows, like so many do here, that Barack Obama is a serious danger to our Country and that she will stop at nothing to let the American people know this. She may not carry all the ideals of a Democrat voter, but in the respect of Barack Obama, she 100% right and she is truly going to be a powerful advocate in our belief that Barack Obama must not be the leader of our Country.

I live in California…a die-hard BLUE state. My husband and I went for a 3 mile walk this morning. We saw 1 sign for Obama/Biden and 20-25 signs for McCain/Palin. Driving around, I have seen way more McCain bumper stickers than Obama.

“Whenever a question is aksed of Obama, he doesn’t answer it.” Yes, we know that Mr. McCain. NObama has a record of not answering to anyone, not to the Illinois senate, not to the people that he was elected to represent–that’s why he votes PRESENT over a 130 times.

I’d like to have been then when MO asked him if he would marry her and NObama said “present” to that question. She’d have made sure that ‘for the first time in his adult life’ he’d think answering a question is a good idea.

  • jangles

I am dumbfounded! He did not know about Ayers and Dorn? He has a college degree? He took no basic US History course? He does not try to find out about the people with whom he is getting involved on a political level as a newly minted politician? He also didn’t know about the racist rhetoric of his pastor for 20 years? And people want this guy who does not know anything to be the next president?

    • AnninCA

I quit posting here because of my own perspective. I think, just my opinion, that O is a fairly typical smart AA guy who made his connections where he could.

It turned out to be the far liberal left group.

      They supported him.

But he really isn’t all that crazy-liberal.

      He’s more dangerous.

He’s status quo, with no power. He’s a president in the pocket of Pelosi and Reid.

I do not fear his “radicalism.” I think he’d govern more right than left.

      Without transparency.

What I don’t want is more of the same from Dems.

Obama Sought HUD Grant For Donor’s Project

    Jim McElhatton

    Washington Times

    Monday, October 6, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama, who vows to change Washington by trimming wasteful spending and disclosing special-interest requests, wrote the Bush administration last year to seek a multimillion-dollar federal grant for a Chicago housing project that is behind schedule and whose development team includes a longtime political supporter.

Mr. Obama’s letter, however, was never disclosed publicly.

In fact, the letter was ghostwritten for him by a consultant for the Chicago Housing Authority, which wanted the money – a practice ethics watchdogs have frequently criticized.

    Hammer Time:

ESTERO, Fla. — Gov. Sarah Palin expanded her attack on Barack Obama’s association with William Ayers Monday, suggesting the Democratic presidential candidate knew of Ayers’ ties to Weather Underground and saying Obama does not have the judgment or honesty to be president.

“Today they’re saying for the first time that Barack Obama didn’t know back then about Ayers’s radical background,” Palin told a rowdy crowd of 8,800 people at the Germain Arena. “But it was only a few months ago that Barack was saying that Ayers was just a ‘guy in my neighborhood.’”

Palin then began mockingly questioning that Obama “didn’t know a few months ago that he had launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist?”

“So what’s next?” she said. “Claiming their ticket doesn’t define higher taxes as patriotic? Or claiming he’s just learned that tax increases on small business kill jobs? Claiming he’s just learned that American soldiers don’t actually target and kill civilians in Afghanistan?

“Or claiming he’s surprised that the surge and the war on terrorism is a success?,” she continued. “Oh wait, he’s already done that.”

Man Behind 100G ‘Garbage Garden’ Sued Own Mom

    By Adam Nichols

    New York Post

    October 6, 2008

CHICAGO – A charity being probed after it was handed $100,000 of taxpayers’ money by Barack Obama is headed by an “opportunist” whose own family wouldn’t trust him with a dime, The Post has learned.

Chicago Better Housing Association boss Kenny Smith is so desperate for cash, he launched a bitter courtroom battle with his 73-year-old disabled mom in an unsuccessful bid to take control of her $1,400-a-month pension and Social Security payouts, according to court papers and relatives.

His family last week told The Post they were amazed that Smith – a former volunteer for Obama who has donated $550 to his various campaigns – was trusted with the hefty state grant to build a botanic garden in his blighted South Side Chicago neighborhood.

Land earmarked for the plan is still overgrown and covered in garbage – eight years after then-state Sen. Obama steered the pork-barrel funds to the program.

Don’t believe the polls. They are manipulating the party id mix to have Obama ahead.

    From beyondthepolls.com

Two New Virginia Polls – Odd Party ID?
Today, we see two new polls from Virginia. Survey USA gives Obama a 53%-43% lead, whereas Suffolk gives Obama an even larger 51%-39% lead. Looking at the internals, it’s clear that BOTH polls have odd party ID.

For example, the Survey USA poll has 39% Democrats, 30% Republicans and 25% Independents. The Suffolk poll has 45% Democrats, 31% Republicans and 24% Independents/Unaffiliated voters. Neither poll is close to historic party ID in Virginia: The 2004 electorate was 39% Republican, 35% Democrat, and 26% Independent. This changed little in 2006, when the Allen-Webb electorate was 39% Republican, 36% Democratic, and 26% Independents.

Has party ID really shifted as drastically as Suffolk might have you believe?

    • pm317

Colorado is the same story. The secretary of state has a different mix than the one used by the polls. They are inflating Dem numbers, and deflating others. Well, otherwise, Obama would go down the tubes even before a single vote is cast, right?

I would like to know what Obama thinks and if he would have joined one of these groups when he was a child.

Firing someone becauae they realeased a video is the basically saying we would not have been “caught” if you hadn’t done that.

It’s not the crime they are objecting to, its that the coverup waa blown. That is what is so sick and twisted.

Remarks By John McCain In Albuquerque, NM

    October 6, 2008

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today delivered the following remarks as prepared for delivery at the McCain-Palin 2008 rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico:

In less than a month, the American people will make a choice on where they want this country to go, and who they trust to lead us in a time of war and economic crisis. The time for debating and electioneering is drawing to a close. Soon it will be the time for choosing.

Today we have seen a reminder of the importance of that choice. The action Congress took last week to address our financial crisis was a tourniquet, but not a permanent solution. Today we are seeing the stock market fall, and the credit crisis spread to other parts of the world. Our economy is still hurting — working families are worried about the price of groceries, the price of gas, keeping their jobs and paying their mortgage — further action is needed. We need to restore confidence in our economy and in our government.

Washington is still on the wrong track and we still need change. The status quo is not on the ballot. We are going to see change in Washington. The question is: in what direction will we go? Will our country be a better place under the leadership of the next president — a more secure, prosperous, and just society? Will you be better off, in the jobs you hold now and in the opportunities you hope for? Will your sons and daughters grow up in the kind of country you wish for them, rising in the world and finding in their own lives the best of America? And which candidate’s experience — in government and in life — makes him a more reliable leader for our country and commander in chief for our troops? Who is ready to lead? In a time of trouble and danger for our country, who will put our country first?

I set out on my own campaign for president many months ago. I promised at the beginning to be straight with the American people, knowing that even those who don’t agree with me on everything would expect at least that much. I didn’t just show up out of nowhere, after all — America knows me. You know my strengths and my faults. You know my story and my convictions. And though familiarity in politics can be both helpful to a candidate, or not so helpful, it does at least fill out the picture and answer the essential questions. You need to know who you’re putting in the White House — where the candidate came from and what he or she believes. And you need to know now, before it is time to choose.

In 21 months, during hundreds of speeches, town halls and debates, I have kept my promise to level with you about my plans to reform Washington and get this country moving again. As a senator, I’ve seen the corrupt ways of Washington in wasteful spending and other abuses of power, and as president I’m going to end them — whatever it takes. I will propose and sign into law reforms to bring tax relief to the middle class and help to businesses so they can create jobs. I will get the rising cost of food and gas under control. I will help families keep their home, and help students struggling to pay for college. I will make health care more accessible and affordable. I will impose a spending freeze on all but the most vital functions of government. I will review every agency of the federal government, improve those that need to be improved and eliminate those that aren’t working for the American people. I will confront th e ten trillion-dollar debt that the federal government has run up, and balance the federal budget by the end of my term in office.

This is the agenda I have set before my fellow citizens. And the same standards of clarity and candor must now be applied to my opponent. Even at this late hour in the campaign, there are essential things we don’t know about Senator Obama or the record that he brings to this campaign.

We have all heard what he has said, but it is less clear what he has done or what he will do. What Senator Obama says today and what he has done in the past are often two different things. He has often changed his positions in this campaign, and the best way to determine where he would really take this country is to examine where he has tried to take it in the past.

My opponent has invited serious questioning by announcing a few weeks ago that he would quote — “take off the gloves.” Since then, whenever I have questioned his policies or his record, he has called me a liar.

Rather than answer his critics, Senator Obama will try to distract you from noticing that he never answers the serious and legitimate questions he has been asked. But let me reply in the plainest terms I know. I don’t need lessons about telling the truth to American people. And were I ever to need any improvement in that regard, I probably wouldn’t seek advice from a Chicago politician.

My opponent’s touchiness every time he is questioned about his record should make us only more concerned. For a guy who’s already authored two memoirs, he’s not exactly an open book. It’s as if somehow the usual rules don’t apply, and where other candidates have to explain themselves and their records, Senator Obama seems to think he is above all that. Whatever the question, whatever the issue, there’s always a back story with Senator Obama. All people want to know is: What has this man ever actually accomplished in government? What does he plan for America? In short: Who is the real Barack Obama? But ask such questions and all you get in response is another barrage of angry insults.

Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was his actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?

This crisis started in our housing market in the form of subprime loans that were pushed on people who could not afford them. Bad mortgages were being backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it was only a matter of time before a contagion of unsustainable debt began to spread. This corruption was encouraged by Democrats in Congress, and abetted by Senator Obama.

Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.

Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, “a good idea.” Well, Senator Obama, that “good idea” has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

To hear him talk now, you’d think he’d always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign.

He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them. Did he ever talk to the executives at Fannie and Freddie about these reckless loans? Did he ever discuss with them the stronger oversight I proposed? If Senator Obama is such a champion of financial regulation, why didn’t he support these regulations that could have prevented this crisis in the first place? He won’t tell you, but you deserve an answer.

Even after he refused to lift a finger to prevent this crisis, when the crisis hit, he was missing in action. He didn’t start making calls to round up votes until after the rescue bill failed in the House and the markets crashed. We continue to see the price of delay today as the markets continue to fall. Today the DOW has fallen below 10,000. And yet, members of his own party said they felt no pressure to vote for the bill. Why didn’t Senator Obama work to pass this bill from the start? Why did he let it fail and drag out this crisis for a full week before doing a thing to help pass it?

Again on taxes, we see a difference between what Senator Obama says today, what he said yesterday and what he has actually done. Over the course of this campaign, he has had many different plans to raise your taxes. During the Democratic primary, he promised to double taxes on every American with a dividend or an investment. He promised to raise payroll taxes. He promised higher taxes on electricity. Now, Senator Obama claims he will give 95 percent of Americans tax relief. He actually promised the same thing when he was running for Senate in Illinois, but once elected he never introduced legislation to do so. Instead, he voted for the Democratic budget resolution that promised to raise taxes on people making just 42,000 dollars a year. At the time, he even said his vote was intended to get “our nation’s priorities back on track.” If he’s such a defender of the middle class, why did he vote to raise their taxes? Whatever ha ppened to the tax relief he promised them when he was a candidate for the Senate? And why should middle class Americans trust him to keep promises he has already broken?

Senator Obama and I both have differences with how President Bush has handled the economy. But he thinks taxes are too low, and I think spending is too high. The government’s out of control spending has resulted in a weaker dollar, raising the cost of groceries and gasoline, and killing jobs.

I will veto pork barrel legislation and cut wasteful government spending. Senator Obama has a different plan. According to third party estimates, he will increase government spending by over 860 billion dollars. He has denied it, but he has refused to tell you how much he does plan to spend. What is the total of his increased spending? Americans deserve to know just how much more of their money Senator Obama intends to spend, and how much more debt he plans to burden them with.

Senator Obama has also criticized earmark spending, those wasteful pork barrel projects stuck in spending bills behind closed doors. And yet, despite his talk on the campaign trail, his actual record is full of requests for earmark projects. In his three short years in the Senate, he has requested nearly a billion dollars in pork projects for his state — a million dollars for every day he’s been in office. Far from fighting earmarks in Congress, Senator Obama has been an eager participant in this corrupt system. In one instance, he sought more than 3 million dollars for a new projector at a planetarium in his hometown. Coincidentally, the chairman of that planetarium pledged to raise more than $200,000 for Senator Obama’s campaign. We don’t know if they ever discussed the money for the planetarium, and no one has asked Senator Obama. But even the appearance of this kind of insider-dealing disgusts Americans. I’m going to put a stop to that, my friends, if I’m President.

I have made every single donor to my campaign publicly available, while Senator Obama has taken in over 200 million dollars from undisclosed sources. We have already seen the potential for fraud because of his refusal to disclose his donors. His campaign had to return $33,000 in illegal foreign funds from Palestinian donors, and this weekend, we found out about another $28,000 in illegal donations. Why has Senator Obama refused to disclose the people who are funding his campaign? Again, the American people deserve answers.

On health care, Senator Obama has been misleading you about my plan to give you more money for health care, and he has been equally misleading about his own plans. He has said his goal is a single payer system where government is in charge of health care and bureaucrats stand between you and your doctor. Under the plan he has proposed, he will fine families that don’t have the kind of health insurance that Senator Obama tells them to purchase. He will fine employers who do not offer the health insurance that he thinks they should offer.

What he doesn’t say, and what nobody has asked, is how big his fines will be. What he doesn’t want you to know is that with a small fine, his plan will encourage companies to just pay the fine, drop existing health care coverage for their employees and leave them with only one real option: government run health care.

Who is the real Senator Obama? Is he the candidate who promises to cut middle class taxes, or the politician who voted to raise middle class taxes? Is he the candidate who talks about regulation or the politician who took money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and turned a blind eye as they ran our economy into a ditch?

Is he the candidate who promises change, or is he the politician who has bought into everything that is wrong with Washington? We can’t change the system with someone who’s never fought the system.

Washington is on the wrong track and I’m going to set it right. The American people know my record. They know I am going to change Washington, because I’ve done it before. They know I’m going to reform our broken institutions in Washington and on Wall Street because I’ve done it before. They know I’m going to deliver relief to the middle class, because that’s what I’ve done.

You don’t have to hope that things will change when you vote for me. You know things will change, because I have been fighting for change in Washington my whole career. I’ve been fighting for you my whole life. That’s what I’m going to do as President of the United States. Fight for you and put the government back on the side of the people.

    Thank you.

Rear Admiral Tom Lynch Calls on Barack Obama to Disavow Accusation of American War Crimes in Afghanistan

HARRISBURG, PA — Rear Admiral Tom Lynch, USN (Ret.) today issued the following statement on Barack Obama’s accusation of American war crimes in Afghanistan:

“Barack Obama must disavow his comments equating American forces in Afghanistan to war criminals. This dangerous rhetoric emboldens our enemy, but it also speaks to Barack Obama’s judgment and competency to serve as commander in chief. While his remarks were designed to score political points with the left wing of his party during the primary, Barack Obama stands by the comments even after securing the nomination. By defending his words, Barack Obama makes it more difficult for our American heroes in uniform to complete the job we have asked them to do.

“John McCain understands that, as commander in chief, words do matter. As a POW, John McCain endured years of torture to avoid making similar statements that would be used as propaganda to demoralize Americans. He put country first then, and John McCain continues to place the interests of those who bravely serve our nation above all else.”

    Background:

Barack Obama accuses Americans of war crimes in Afghanistan. “But during a later appearance before about 800 people in Nashua, Obama made a comment likely to further the spats he was warned about. Asked whether he would move U.S. troops out of Iraq to better fight terrorism elsewhere, he brought up Afghanistan and said, “We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there.”" (Philip Elliot , AP, “Obama Gets Warning From Friendly Voter,” Washington Post, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/14/AR2007081400812.html, Posted 8/14/2007).

Governor Sarah Palin defended America’s service members in Afghanistan from Barack Obama’s “reckless” accusations. “Now, Barack Obama had said that all we’re doing in Afghanistan is air raiding villages and killing civilians.’ And such a reckless, reckless comment and untrue comment, again, hurts our cause. That’s not what we’re doing there. We’re fighting terrorists and securing democracy, and building schools for children there, so that there is opportunity in that country, also. There will be a big difference there. And we will win in Afghanistan, also.” (http://mms.tveyes.com/transcript.asp?PlayClip=FALSE&DTSearch=TRUE&DateTime=10%2F2%2F2008+9%3A56%3A33+PM&market=m101&StationID=290, 2008 Vice Presidential Debate, Saint Louis, Mo., Posted 10/2/2008)

Governor Sarah Palin says Barack Obama’s “reckless” accusation “disqualifies” him to be commander in chief. “(S)ome of his comments that he made about the war that in my world disqualifies someone from consideration as the next commander in chief. Some of the comments he has made about Afghanistan, what we’re doing there, supposedly just air raiding villages and killing civilians. That’s reckless.” (http://mms.tveyes.com/transcript.asp?PlayClip=FALSE&DTSearch=TRUE&DateTime=10%2F3%2F2008+5%3A22%3A32+PM&market=m1&StationID=130, FOX News, Governor Sarah Palin interview with Carl Cameron, Posted 10/3/2008.)

Barack Obama refused to meet with military families at a town hall meeting with John McCain. “A coalition of military groups is planning a nationally televised town-hall-style meeting with the presidential candidates near Fort Hood, Tex., the largest active-duty military installation in the country. But so far, only Senator John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican nominee, has agreed to attend Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has not agreed to participate.” (Kate Zernike, “Obama Won’t Commit to Event at Military Base,” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/12/us/politics/12obama.html, New York Times, Posted 6/12/2008)

Obama’s campaign “couldn’t keep its story straight.” “U.S. Sen. Barack Obama evidently cared more about criticism back home than visiting wounded American soldiers in Germany. That’s the explanation from a spokesman for the presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee when asked why Mr. Obama canceled a planned visit to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center during his tour of the Middle East and Europe. The Obama campaign couldn’t keep its story straight.” (Editorial, “Obama’s missed visit,” Pittsburg Tribune-Review, http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/opinion/archive/s_580035.html, Posted 7/30/2008.)

Obama vacations in Hawaii while John McCain condemns Russian military action. “With his Democratic rival vacationing in Hawaii, John McCain used the political vacuum to polish his foreign policy credentials on Monday morning, issuing a lengthy statement to reporters condemning Russian military action in Georgia and calling for further diplomatic against the Kremlin.” (Peter Hambly, “McCain again condemns Russian military action,” CNN Political Ticker, http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/11/mccain-issues-statement-on-russian-military-action/, Posted 8/11/2008.)

Obama friend William Ayers accused American military of “terrorism.” “‘We weren’t terrorists,’ Ayers insists. The reason we weren’t terrorists is because we did not commit random acts of terror against people. Terrorism was what was being practiced in the countryside of Vietnam by the United States.’” (Don Terry, “The Calm After the Storm,” Chicago Tribune Sunday Magazine, 9/16/2001, reposted by Eric Zorn, “The calm after the storm — School reform crusader Bill Ayers works within the system now, but don’t ask the former Weatherman to apologize for his radical past ,” Change of Subject Blog, Chicago Tribune, http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2008/08/the-calm-after.html, posted 8/16/2008.)

With all due respect, we need to be more positive about the outcome of this election. Obarf and his crew want us feeling dejected so we give up. They did the same thing during the primaries and Hillary kept winning states, especially at the end when people started to get to know what Obarf is about.

Start doing something positive. You can go to the Mccain office and request to help with voter fraud and they will set you to work.

This is long from over and Obarf has yet to be exposed, but he will.

A pattern emerges…what we think the next few weeks will look like
    Posted by hillbuzz under Uncategorized

Okay, we’ve seen that this week is going to be all about William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn and SoetorObama’s connections to these two unrepentant terrorists in the Weather Underground.

There’s a narrative building here that seems to be going something like this:

    (1) Establish SoetorObama surrounds himself with anti-American radicals

    (2) Establish SoetorObama surrounds himself with criminals

    (3) Once (1) and (2) are established, show SoetorObama shares their anti-American beliefs

    (4) Define SoetorObama as someone backed by global kooks and loons who does not have America’s best interests at heart: but is in this for himself and his associates, not America and its people.

There is a whole cast of characters in terms of kooks, loons, and criminals to use. The MSM keeps insisting McCain won’t bring up Jeremiah Wright, but we think that’s pure nonsense. Palin is already bringing Wright up now — and she’s the perfect one to do that, as she belongs to a church that’s also unconventional, but not anti-American. Palin’s a great trap — because the likes of Matt Damon and others have already played surrogate and have tried to paint Palin as a religious zealot who doesn’t believe in dinosaurs. Well, fair’s fair: if you want to talk about Palin’s church, let’s talk about SoetorObama’s 20 years sitting in Wright’s pews.

This stuff won’t go down well in Pennsyvlania, Florida and Ohio, we know that for a fact.

And SoetorObama can’t win without winning one of those three states.

I am convinced Obama is either friendly with terrorists or one himself. This is what I tell all my friends and neighbors here in Louisville, Kentucky.

  • Dee

I remember reading an interview where Axelrod said that Ayers’ kids and Obama’s kids went to school together. Since Ayers’ youngest (adopted I think from a female terrorist that was sent to prison) is at least 13 years older than Obama’s oldest, I thought he was covering up way back then.

I would like to go on the record and make the following official statement:

“I, soldier4hillary who now supports McPalin do solemly swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God”:

AINT.NO. DAMN. WAY Senator Barack H. Obama is winning NC. They need to get off whatever it is there smoking, close the fairytale and face reality and stop doing these f’d up polls to give the allusion he is winning. Look, they ASSUME this based on the AA percentage. But look at the primary map for NC. I am sure McCain will win the same places as Clinton.

Which left the large AA counties. Now here is the thing. People ASSUME that those counties are going to vote overwhelmingly for Obama right off the bat. So what happens when theres fraudelent voter registration? Because its ASSUMED that he will win those counties, no one places that much emphasis on those places, they just go with the flow and the assumption he will win. Meaning they are going to call NC for Obama like there doing now. Saying theres NO CHANCE Mccain will win based on early voter registration of AAs etc etc

Thats how they called NC for his sorry a$$ in the primaries three minutes after the polls closed based on miraculously 90 percent of the whole state of North Carolina voted early. But what was interesting is the fact that we LOVE Obama so much here, 90 percent of us voted only for him and left everything else blank. Yup, they just voted for Obama and went home without voting on any of there local dems. Oh and counted the ballots twice.

    • Maverick

Didn’t they use the sample ballots too and created chaos when they were called on it? To keep the peace they were allowed to cast the sample ballot in addition to whatever precinct vote they had previously in other precincts in NC?

      • http://anvp.typepad.com/soldier4hillary/ soldier4hillary

Yep. They had for like two seconds about the ballots in the msm. Then they stated it was only like 360,000 that got counted twice then it died a silent death.

Last week we had a Moveon.org infestation at our walmart outside of post

Obama-Odinga:50-50 Split Demands Sound SOOOO FAMILIAR…
Posted on April 9, 2008 by insightanalytical

Tuesday (4/8) night’s BBC America news report on renewed fighting in Kenya piqued my interest, especially when I heard that Raila Odinga, Obama’s cousin (?) has suspended power-sharing talks and is now demanding a 50-50 split in the cabinet. I couldn’t help but immediately think of MICHIGAN and Obama’s “solution” to the delegate “problem”–namely, a 50-50 split!! Needless to say, it put the whole Obama-Odinga relationship in back on my radar. The BBC website filed this report Wednesday, 4/9:

    Kenya opposition urges restraint

Kenya’s main opposition leader, Raila Odinga, has appealed to his supporters to exercise restraint after violence broke out in the capital, Nairobi. Mr Odinga suspended talks on forming a power-sharing government on Tuesday.”It is better to take slightly longer and get it right then to rush it and make mistakes which will lead to regrets,” he told the BBC. Mr Odinga says he wants a 50-50 split in cabinet posts as promised by an accord to end post-poll violence. Some 1,500 people died and 600,000 were displaced in January and February. …

In a piece written by Travis Kavulla for the National Review which was posted at CBS News, he commented that the December 2007 election was run with a distinct “Western” flavor…right down to the purported hiring of Dick Morris by the Odinga campaign.

This time around, the campaign season was an extravaganza aimed at the workaday voter – a remarkable notion in African politics. Pork was promised wide and far. The candidates were branded (the incumbent Mwai Kibaki cast as the elderly economist who quietly gets things done; his challenger Raila Odinga, the visionary populist who had been imprisoned under the dictatorship for the sake of Kenya’s democracy). Each presidential campaign spent millions of dollars on television advertisements. Mwai Kibaki, the president seeking a second term, had a special campaign targeting the disabled; Raila Odinga, his challenger, hired Dick Morris as a consultant. The campaigns, in short, were as refined as a Western democracy’s.

The story about Morris is that former Clinton aides who are now working for Obama supposedly dispatched Morris to help Odinga. Unfortunately, the link to this storry at news aggregator AllAfrica.com is no longer active (“cannot be ‘retrieved’ at this time”).

Former Clinton aides currently working for Obama were the “mutual acquaintances” who directed Dick Morris to Kenya to advise the Odinga campaign in November of 2007, shortly after Odinga visited with Obama in America. Morris was an extremely divisive factor in the Kenyan elections, as a foreigner, a white man, and the creator of an antagonistic “have vs. have nots” campaign platform for Odinga’s ODM. He also suggested the current campaign of civil disobedience to protest the election result, including a “Million Person March”, a la Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

When things got out of hand following the election, Obama called Odinga repeatedly, but Mwai Kibaki, the leader of the Government would not return his calls as he perceives Obama to be biased toward his Luo relative Odinga in the conflict. Obama is featured prominently in ODM campaign posters, slogans, and songs in Kenya, and the plaintive phrase “A Luo will become President in America before a Luo will become President in Kenya” is often heard.

    The BBC also reported:

Odinga also told the BBC that Obama had … taken time out of campaigning for the New Hampshire primary to call him twice, to express his concern, and to say that he would also be calling Mr Kibaki. (Odinga says Obama is his cousin, BBC News)”

    Dear PUMAS,

The RNC Victory 2008 emergency voter registration and get-out-the-vote effort needs your immediate support.

With four weeks until Election Day, I’m counting on our Party’s top supporters — RNC Victory 2008 supporters like you — to help fund these vital programs.

PUMAS, your generous secure online contribution of $2,000, $1,000, $500, $250, $100, $50 or $35 today will go a long way to helping RNC Victory 2008 reach our $50 million goal for October and ensuring our Party has the resources to reach, register and motivate voters who agree with our reform agenda.

The last two presidential elections have proven voter turnout is the key to Republican victories. In 2004, John Kerry would have won the election had he received 127,014 more votes in New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado — three states that will have many closely contested races again this fall. And the 2000 presidential election was decided by a mere 537 votes.

The Obama-Biden Democrats and liberal special interests learned their lessons from those elections. Democrats registered and turned-out record numbers of voters during the primaries. Big Labor and other left-wing groups are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to register even more Democrat voters before Election Day.

The Obama-Biden Democrats and their far-left allies will also spend over
$1 billion on distortions and attack ads designed to smear the facts about our agenda of reform, prosperity and greater security.

To win this election and defeat the liberal Obama-Biden Democrats, we must counter their false charges and share with voters the truth about our plans to strengthen our economy, keep taxes and spending low, win the war against Islamic extremism, provide affordable and accessible health care and increase our nation’s energy independence.

PUMAS, Republicans are on the right side of the issues. But there are no second chances after Election Day. RNC Victory 2008 needs your help now more than ever if we are to get our message past the liberal media filter and keep our emergency get-out-the-vote drive on track.

Please make a secure online contribution of $2,000, $1,000, $500, $250, $100, $50 or $35 to RNC Victory 2008 right now to provide the grassroots support our Party needs to register every Republican voter and get them to the polls on November 4.

Woo Hoo!!! Go get him Johnny Mac! How satisfying to see McCain finally call Obama what he really is–a liar. I’ve been waiting months for someone to directly confront this hypocrite. Hillary couldn’t do it, because the Dem Party didn’t have her back, and she was too loyal. Let him have it John–the time has come to strip this fraud of his phony excuses.

I wonder what Obama is going to say now with that air mark for the Planetarium, wait this the news comes out about the nice little bundles that went to the hospital that Michelle was working at.

Time to let all the dirt on Obama fly, let the people know no matter what happens at least the people cannot say there were not informed about Obama’s dealings.

While McCain is at it I want them to investigate this dam birth paper issue also that Obama seems to want to block in the courts rather than just producing the dam document and ending this story.

Obama is a socialist, plain and simple. He eschews individualism, calling it a “myth” that individual effort and hard work can allow people to work their way out of poverty — while evading the fact that millions of people, black and white, have done precisely that.

No, instead, he wants to offer blacks an alternative to the notion that they must work for a living; he wants to promise them a “share of the pie” — a pie they did not produce, by the way — to be achieved by “collective action”. Translation: if enough of us stick together and become a big enough block of voters, then we can get government to further loot the taxpayers and give us more of their earnings.

That is all Obama is promising: more of the same government looting that has been on the rise for decades. Obama is not a candidate of change; Obama is a candidate of “staying the course” on the march to socialism in America.

    CBS says race getting tighter

    CBS Poll: Presidential Race Tightens

CBS) In a sign that the race for president has returned to about where it was before the first presidential debate, the Obama-Biden ticket leads the McCain-Palin ticket 47 percent to 43 percent among registered voters in a new CBS News poll.

The Obama-Biden ticket led by a wider margin, nine percentage points, in a CBS News poll released last Wednesday, before Joe Biden and Sarah Palin faced off in the vice presidential debate. Obama-Biden led by five percentage points on Sept. 25.

In the new poll, the Democratic ticket leads by 3 percentage points, 48 percent to 45 percent, among likely voters.

    • http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com InsightAnalytical-GRL

First they say it’s among “registered voteres” then the story switches to “likely voters”….WHICH IS IT? By this time the sample should be composed of “likely voters”…defines by some sort of track record of voting in past elecitons.

The sample size is below the 1000-1500 that Gallup (whom I worked for before the old man died and the company was sold). Look how it’s weighted to Democrats?

What is an “effective likely voter? What is this “probability of voting” based on? I’ve never seen anything like it…

      UNWEIGHTED WEIGHTED
      Total Respondents 957
      Registered Voters 875 821
      Republicans – Reg. Voters 248 233
      Democrats – Reg. Voters 320 311
      Independents – Reg. Voters 307 277
      Effective Likely Voters 616
*Every registered voter is included in the likely voter model, and is assigned a probability of voting, which is used to calculate the likely voter results. The sum of these probabilities is the effective number of likely voters.

I’m not sure what the issue is here. Is the McCain camp implying that Obama has been plotting terrorist attacks with Ayers? What does this really say about Obama? The extent of their relationship revolves around service on charitable boards. Even if Obama was aware Ayers’ past, would it have been more honorable to not join a board whose cause he believed in or just quit the board to avoid a potential political firestorm down the road?

Look, the things that Ayers did 40 years ago were terrible. But we’re all taught that just because a person does bad things, doesn’t make the person bad. Ayers has gone on to do some good things with his life, there’s no reason Obama should condemn Ayers’ every act just because of his past.

The real issue here is that McCain offers to substantive changes from Bush on any of the major issues: stay the course in Iraq and Afghanistan, renew Bush tax cuts for the rich, no prososal to reform education system that has set the U.S. back in the global economy, no LONG TERM energy solutions, and no way of addressing the 42 million uninsured Americans.

The issue is judgment and the evasiveness…

  • apishapa

“Obama didn’t know about Ayers”? He associated with the man for at least 15 years. Doesn’t Obama know how to google”. Even Bush know how to work the internets.

How stupid are they willing to say Obama is? I mean really, do they want to present him as a complete idiot?

All I’ve heard for weeks, is how stupid and uneducated Sarah Palin is. Everyone wants to know what she reads, suggesting that she doesn’t. Well at least she knows how to read. Apparently Obama doesn’t read. Obama is going to lead us in the War on Terror and presents himself as an expert on terrorism, but he’s never done any reasearch on the subject?

This whole notion that every time he gets caught in a lie he can explain it all away with “I didn’t know so that’s okay” is getting really old. Obama needs to cowboy up and take responsibility for his life and his associations. I’ve fucked up a lot in my life, and I acknowledge every mistake I’ve made. And I’ve got relatives and some ex-friends I would prefer not to admit to. But, I do. It sure as hell didn’t take me 15 years to figure out what they were like.

Now, I’m just a hick from Holly, Colorado, but I’ve heard of the Weathermen. In fact,I wrote a paper about them in 11th grade (1973). Obama is apparently even less educated than those bitter, gun toting, rednecked OLD LADIES he looks down his nose at.

  • OBAMA NOT MY PREZ

President McCain….Vice President Palin. Get used to it Obots…we all get a real warm, fuzzy, happy feeling when we say it. The two of them are what this country NEEDS. And they are what this country will GET. No one with a brain will vote Obama by the time October ends. NO ONE.

  • IndieDogg

I know we and others go back and forth accusing each other of being stupid, but I’m going to admit it right up front. I must be stupid.

Where exactly do people get the idea that Barack Obama, who hasn’t accomplished even one — I repeat, even one — single legislative (or other) deed of consequence (if you don’t count getting elected, occasionally unopposed) in his entire period of public service, is somehow “better” for the economy?

    Based on what?

    What he’s said?

If that’s it, then I have a follow-up question: On which day?

Is it the part where he says he’ll double the tax on people who actually invest capital in order to generate cash to hand out to people who don’t make enough to even pay taxes, much less invest a dollar? That sounds kind of screwy to me if you’ve got a stagnating economy but, hey, what do I know.

I guess I just don’t get it. I admit it.

I’m too slow to see the glow around this fellow’s head.

BTW, on the Keating slander they’re now digging up again, I quote the attorney for the Democrats in that matter, Bob Bennett, who says there was never anything to McCain’s involvement in that case and that he and the other Republican were only kept in the case so it wouldn’t be only Democrats sitting in the chairs before Congress.

The most famous quote to come out of that whole affair where McCain was concerned was Keating calling McCain a “wimp” for refusing to help him.

Are the Messiah’s troops not aware that there was a Republican primary? Did they not see this same thing trotted out, thrashed and sent limping back to the hole it was sent from? So, now I’m stupid again.

Being investigated and completely exonerated of any wrongdoing, even according to the lawyer for the other side, is a “smoking gun”? I’m sorry but I’m having a real hard time getting my head around that one.

But, hey, back to the economy, explain again where Barack Obama got his economics degree and how he’s got the secret to fixing the American economy but he’s just forgotten to share it while we collectively lose a few dozen billion dollars in liquidity? I mean, I don’t know that the man’s ever even balanced a checkbook but, if you say he has, I’ll trust you on that one.

But I don’t trust him an inch past that.

You can’t talk your way to trust. You earn it.

That sort of implies that you have to actually do something. But, what do I know.

  • http://mbc MBC

I heard John McCain’s New Mexico speech today, it caught my attention just like the time Hillary’s voice woke me up from a nap, saying “Shame on you Barack Obama, shame on you!”. But it was better, more forceful, more specific. Keep it up John, don’t let up and keep throwing the fast ball. Hit your spots and BO will spin himself into the ground trying to get in a swing.

  • Carol

Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod asserted that Obama didn’t even know about Ayers’ radical past as a founder of the Weathermen. On the surface, that is possible

I don’t think it is possible that Obama didn’t know about Ayers’ past. I’m sure the people in Obama’s Chicago circle of friends had mentioned it. But, if he didn’t know before Sept. 11, 2001, he sure should have been aware of it after that tragic date when the NYT did a piece about his book Fugitive Days and the NYT quoted a section from this book where Ayers makes the statement “I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.” Ayers’ statement was made before the World Trade Center attacks, but its timing led some to believe it was in response. (Emphasis mine)

So, Obama would/should have known about Ayers’ past at that point. Just my thoughts

  • IndieDogg

I’m sorry, might be about to step on a toe or two (there are about 10 I’d like to step on right now) but, for the record, I contributed to Hillary Clinton’s campaign within 5 minutes of her announcement and, until a minute ago, I still had a lot of respect for her.

And I also say this with the caveat that I don’t think her words are going to make a Hill of Beans difference in this race and I know it’s something she’s got to do to play the dutiful Democrat.

    Still.

I’m not going through the whole piece but this is utter hogwash.

One quote — re: Equal Pay for Women.

Hillary Clinton says (presumably with a straight face, though I would hope not, for her sake): “Barack Obama is for it. John McCain is against it.

Call it what you want, but it’s a flat out lie. And she knows it, as well or better than anyone.

And she didn’t play Beltway-Speak, saying McCain voted for this or that bill (which can always be twisted because of the way the process works). She said John McCain is AGAINST EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN. Flat out. Flat wrong. Flat reprehensible.

See what happens when you reach across the aisle, John? To work with your “friend” Hilliary? Sometimes, you get your arm bitten off.

Excuse me, but is this the same Barack Obama HRC ran against? The guy she describes in this release doesn’t resemble that guy at all. Now he’s right about everything? Even his experience is suddenly not a problem. I guess she figures, if that call comes in at 3:00 a.m., even if BHO gives them the wrong answer it’s okay, so long as it’s a member of the Democratic Party on the phone.

    I respectfully disagree.

Isn’t this the guy about whom she said, when asked in Iowa about him possibly being elected President (still the most honest and unfiltered comments I’ve ever heard from a politician of her seniority — Palin would say it but I couldn’t believe Hillary said it), “Get serious?”

I guess she’s been born again, in the rapture. Or, she thinks she can fix this disaster of a party from the inside.

But back to Barack Obama and equal pay for women (well, let’s throw everybody in there, how about equal pay for everybody based on qualifications, job description, and performance)…

I say this a lot but it’s time to say it again: What you DO speaks so loudly, I can’t hear what you’re saying.

John McCain’s male and female staff (his Senate staff, regular employees) are paid equally (in fact, women make slightly more than men, on average, but it’s close). Not in Senator Obama’s office. He talks the talk but does not walk the walk. Big surprise.

But, fine, even if Obama is the biggest supporter of equal pay for equal work on the planet, this is about her statement about John McCain.

Simply stated, it’s not true. He’s never said it. Governor Palin’s never said it. Neither one of them has ever been a part of any such practice in their political careers. They’ve put the public’s money where their mouth is.

What the hell is Hillary Clinton thinking?

Barack Obama can say whatever he wants and all before him bow and thank him for speaking to them, while furiously scribbling down whatever it is he says (whether or not it matches what he said yesterday). But, that’s the rapture talking.

Hillary. It’s not a franchise. It’s not magic dust that rubs off when you touch The One. He can do it, apparently with impunity, but you can’t just say whatever they tell you to say and expect people to bow and thank you. Especially when it’s a bald faced fabrication.

Where do you come off saying John McCain is against equal pay for women?

Alright, enough already. This is not productive. I was done with the (formerly) Democratic Party, already. Now, at least for now, I’m done with Hillary as well.

Call me when it’s over, Hill, and maybe we’ll talk. But, you just went down several notches on my scale of honor.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

John McCain finally called himself a “black criminal” in Vietnam. But, at least they had to torture him to make him say it.

What did they do to you, the Obama Panthers? Promise you the Majority Leader’s slot?

    I’m done.

Think I’ll dial up McCain/Palin and make a donation.

That’s what we used to do when we were on Hillary’s blog and got mad at The One’s hate-spewing moles. Let me see if it still makes me fell better.
