To the poster who said that 87% of Jews opposed the Iraq war, where did you get that information? I don’t believe there have been anly polls taken on this issue. And most Jews are afraid to come right out with their support of the war. Even a lot of the neo-con Jewish media reporters are now recanting on their war advocacy.

that is the point, and all here have contributed to the discourse with their take on it…that is a point too- you are all right/correct, but still it illustrates my intimation perfectly- we get gacked up and twisted, missing the crucial truth, whenever the basic subject arises.

Look at the likes of mr. & mrs. cheney, the wingnut absolutist Revelations crowd, buying up land in Israel and radio time to spew their fanaticism and make nice with Jews as they tell them to their face, with not a hint of irony or humor- “oh yeah, and when Christ shows up, renounce him and we’ll be first in line to slaughter YOU, dear friend.” – they fit my quote, and hang with Andrea, Libby and crew as well. All a bunch of snakes, hiding behind and actively working the religion. it’s insanity- defined. Still, we must do what has occured in this post=talk with each other. As I said, at the euphemistic “ground zero” of this, Israel, israelis actively dive into this water and go for it.Their daily lives and citizenry demand it. They are far from perfect, but actively engaged. In a nation that brags of a cornerstone of “free speech”, we can not shirk from the conversation. Thanks for the dialogue.

As I’m sure you know, anecdotal evidence based on your personal acquaintances, doesn’t make a statistical study. FWIW, I had a number of Jewish friends who opposed the war in Iraq. And while quite a number of the neocons are Jewish, they also include luminaries like Dick Cheney and allies like the lunatic theocons who are expecting the Mideast wars to blow up the world and usher in the Second Coming. If all these folks feel like crawling into the same bed, all we can do is expose the lunacy, which is a blot on people of good will everywhere.

At some point non-Jews have to reject the charge of anti-Semitism. We have to make the case that the interests of the United States and the interests of Israel are not one and the same, and refuse to accept the anti-Semite label.

Most neocons are staunch supporters of Israel The fact that many neocons are Jewish is not a surprise, but religion is not the issue. The issue is support for the occupation and the suppression of non-Jews.

Same holds true if all these people were Mormans.

I’ve been around all three of these types/cultures more than I can stand, and there are strong bonds, commitments, and loyalties to “the flock”.

It is simply unrealistic for some here to be denying the obvious. Almost as ridiculous as labeling me a Jew-hater or a Christian-hater for what I’ve written.

*That* factor is missing from this discussion, while everybody focuses on religion. Jane appeals to NBC to lance this boil, and I’m sure NBC is collectively thinking, “What boil? There’s no boil. Chimpy’s been good to us.”

However, I disagree that there is no sub-story here relating to religion. As one who loathes religion, I can still see and smell it when it rears its ugly head.

Religion is a convenient rallying point, a means to another end, much the way 9/11 was an oh-so-convenient means to a completely unrelated end.
