Recently one of my friends started an obsession with the actor Nicholas Cage (mostly because their names are both Nicholas - sounds strange but he is strange and that isn't the point). After asking around the rest of my friends he seems to be a very controversial figure.
What does the forum think? do you love the all action superhero? Or do you hate the droning voice of the man who does nothing but action shooters?

So, defect and go live in Cuba. You'll soon be whining to come home. Women there are just now, if they're one of the fortunate few, able to get a cheap microwave. What will you do without your cell phone and little ipod, television (especially one that shows decadent American t.v. shows like "American Idol"?

The article may explain something I've always wondered about: How does Obama keep pulling in so much money? Very frightening!

We really needed Hillary.

Don't forget how much many in the country loved the long gas lines and how much the military appreciated not being paid for two weeks because of a budget fight with Carter. That was fun!
Look Perry, it is way past bedtime for you children. Those of us who lived through the disaster that really was the Carter administration would prefer not to remember any of it after the walk he took until the day he left office. He was an abject failure as President.

Please see this video (and save it) before YouTube censors it. It pulls together all the pieces to show why Obama is not constitutionally qualified to be president.

The problem with this guy is that he is in charge of MSNBC with his daughter at the wheel. MSNBC was a decent network until his daughter started working there. She has brainwashed everybody, including her co-host Joe Sarbourgh (spelling). I have lost respect for this man.

Taking money from the productive to give to the poor may "reduce the poverty rate" on a short term basis but it does not lead to the kind of economic growth that is needed to get out of a Depression.

Welfare has always and will always be about paying the poor to stay poor - and taking money from the productive to do so.

It's a little like taking corn seed from the farmer to feed to the poor. It's not going to do much for the long term nutritional prospects of the village now, is it?

I don't care what "the rest of the world" thinks. There are a lot of economists now who recognize the folly of the New Deal, and the reasoning behind it is sound. The Depression lasted far longer than it should have, because FDR stifled the kind of production and economic growth which was needed to end it. You can whine in defense of your hero all you like - he's no hero to me.

The problem is not ZB and his ilk. the problem is that we, as a people, refuse to use critical thinking when making crucial decisions. Novo Ordus Seclorum is not new, it is the highfalutin goal of the intelligentsia of the 18th century Enlightenment.

OK, now please tell us how REAGAN did the same and MORE (after all, he had 8 years, while Carter only a year) LOL All USA politics are so durty and repugnant, be it dems or reps

Yup. All Zbig gave the Mujahedeen was a few ancient rifles circa WWII. Reagan (read the book by Steve Coll on the CIA and Osama) sent millions of $ and tons of weaponry. The Stingers we sent starting in '86 turned the tide. http://mailman.lbo-talk.org/2001/2001-December/028084.html Covert Aid to Afghan Mujahdeen in the 80's Pg. 146, Larry P. Goodson, "Afghanistan's Endless War, " Univ.
of Washington Press.

1980 $30 Million
1981 $35 M
1982 $$35-50 M
1983 $80 M
1984 $122 M
1985 $280 M
1986 $470-550M
1987 $600M
1988 $400M
1989 $400-550M

Citing NYT, Washington Post, Henry Bradsher, "Afghanistan and
the Soviet Union, Duke Univ. Press, 1985.

 Soviet and Chinese Aid...

Besides being one of the first regimes to recognize Pinochet
after 9-11-73, along with the USG giving Savimbi lotsa weaponry,
the PRC also gave arms to the anti-Soviet mujahadeen in the 80's
through the ISI pipeline.
>From Larry P. Goodson, "Afghanistan's Endless War, " Univ. of
Washington Press, pg. 99. "The Soviet Union supplied $36-$48
billion (yes B!) to the communist Kabul regime from 1978 to the
early 90's. Over the course of the war, the United States, Saudi
Arabia and China supplied $6-12 billion to the mujahdeen..."

Pg. 142, Goodson again. "The Soviets took natural gas from
the Shiberghan fields (for example 2.4 Billion cubic feet in
1986, 50% of Afghanistan's total export value) and supplied essential
commodities (including wheat)along with arms, machinery and transportation
equipment." The gas was "sold" at BELOW market rates to the fSU.

Pg. 57, Goodson. "In the early spring of 1979 war came to the
cities of Afghanistan. In mid-March there was a general uprising
in Herat. More than a hundred Soviets were hunted down in savage
violence that killed 3-5 thousand. Revolts and uprisings in other
major cities followed. In April Afghan Army units mutineed in
Jalalabad, killing their Soviet advisors and refusing to fight
the resistance. Many of these soldiers joined the mujahdeen...
(Afghan Army strength from late '78 to early '79 declined from
80K to 30K.)
In April (1979) Afghan government forces with Soviet advisors
massacred 1,170 men and boys of Kerala village in Kunar, near
the Pakistan border."

As a new book on the global ruling class by David Rothkopf, "Superclass: The Global Power Elite and the World They Are Making," notes the Trilaterial Commission has long ago ceased to have any influence in those circles.
