According to documents on the Anchorage Municipal website, Troopergate investigator Stephen E. Branchflower’s wife, retired Detective Linda J. Branchflower, served as an officer and later as a detective in the Anchorage Police Department (APD) from about 1985 until December 2001. Linda Branchflower and Walter Monegan served together in the APD for almost the entire 16 years.

Walt Monegan joined the APD in 1974 and was promoted to APD Chief of Police in February 2001. He served as chief until his retirement around September 2006.

Anchorage Resolution No. AR 2001-364 indicated Detective Linda J. Branchflower was recognized for her almost 16 years of service in the APD by the Anchorage Assembly during the December 18th, 2001 regular session.

In his resume on ADN.com, Mr. Branchflower himself also enjoyed a close relationship with the APD, as a co-founder of the APD Homicide Response Team in 1985, and was commended for his work with the Homicide Response Team by the 16th Alaska Legislature in May 1989.

While the level of personal and professional relationships between Mr. and Mrs. Branchflower and Mr. Monegan has not been determined, the possible conflict of interest should be investigated before Mr. Branchflower continues with the Troopergate investigation of Governor Sarah Palin.

Don’t underestimate the American people. They still don’t know about Odinga and the Bert lawsuit and the (hopefully) whitey tape. I spoke with a rep from the Republican Party in our area (asking for our vote) and when I told her about the above information yet to be outed about Obama she had never heard of any of it.

As far as McCain telling the crowd Obama is a good guy, I think it was because he was afraid the crowd was getting out of hand. We are angry and rightfully so. He knows it. However, the campaign can’t specifically choose who comes to those events and they don’t know what the angry people might decide to blurt out. Those things are televised and it could reflect really badly on McCain.

I agree that Romney had his act together. He is a great speaker and a really sharp guy. For some reason, the rest of the folks did not agree with us. He outspent all the other Repubs in the primary and just couldn’t gain any ground. I didn’t understand it, but it is how it is.

As far as what McCain can do now, I want to see him not let Obama’s distortions of his (McCain’s) policies go unanswered. He needs to forcefully make his case. I’m not sure why the media, legislators, Dan Fagan and Andrew Halcro all insist on referring to the event that led to Walt Monegan resigning as a firing. My recollection was that Monegan was offered a reassignment to another position but he refused the position and now everyone is stirred up.

Reading the paper through the winter, I read many stories that attested to the many problems within Bush communities. The fact that these problems have not been resolved through leadership from the top command suggests to me that new direction was necessary. Incentives, community liaisons and other measures are needed to establish community trust in law enforcement.

If I were a superintendent of a school district and a high school principal was not a good fit I would have no problem reassigning that person to another position where he might do a better job.

It is time to stop the inflammatory rhetoric by using the term … “The firing of Monegan.” He quit!

I’m sorry, but I am still confused on the outcome of this election.

Consider the following:

1.) Kerry in 2004 and Gore in 2000 lost as Democrats without any “Hillary Factor” against them in the general election.

2.) You still have to believe 10 – 20 percent of Hillary’s 18 million votes will go to McCain and not Obama.

3.) Those Hillary votes you have to conclude were Kerry and Gore votes and not Bush votes in the past two elections.

4.) In states like PA, OH, and MO in the Democratic primaries against Hillary, Obama only won the counties in and around the urban centers in those states and Hillary swept all other counties and still won both Ohio and PA and basically tied in MO.

Point being, I am still confused as to how Obama can win with those facts present that were not there in 2000 and 2004?

Does someone have the data to support why those facts are not in play in this election?

This just blows my mind that Obama would try to use this after he’s already perceived as being unfriendly to women for not putting Hillary on the ticket (not that a lot of us wanted her to accept, but we know this is true). The campaign did damage control, and I’m confident that people who can’t stand her will make a big fuss. Most normal voters will know that this was politically motivated in the timing of the report.

I don’t know enough about the story to know what the commission referred to. I only ask that the same standard be applied to Obama. Did he ever speak out against the sexism and race baiting of his followers? Has he spoken out against the rank sexism against Palin? Has he lead the Democratic Party to be a better party? Todd Palin had to keep asking about Wooten because the AST refuses to give information about complaints that are made against officers. So the Palins didn’t know that Wooten was investigated, or had a suspension until this summer.

Um, no. Numerous executive jobs in the government are protected either by civil service laws or by tradition. B.B. (Before Bush) the staffing of the Justice Department was non-political and non ideological.

The whole reason for the investigation of Palin was to see if she acted improperly. This was well before anyone knew that McCain would tap her for the V.P. slot.

The executive branch does not get a pass to fire and hire willy-nilly in either Juno or in Washington D.C. There are rules, there are procedures, there are correct, legal ways of doing these things.

Sorry he was not found “guilty” of anything hotshot. Good god you can even read the heading of the PDF. It is an administrative action, it is documentation of improper behavior of a law officer. It is not even a civil action never mind a criminal complaint.

This is a document supporting the suspension of the trooper. He was not charged with any crime thus he could not be found guilty of anything. Please note there is no mention of a field sobriety of the trooper or of charges of child abuse or neglect. The theme here is poor judgment by the officer in question. The only law that was broken was in reference to a hunting permit (non-transferable) which at best is a misdemeanor.

The incidents were looked into and the trooper was suspended. He got kicked off his wildlife enforcement beat and had his weapons and cruiser pulled for 10 days. As the trooper was not an at-will employee that was that.

If Trooper Wooten was a rouge cop, then there are and were policies and procedures for getting rid of him. Those procedures are outlined in the collective bargaining agreements hammered out by by the Union and the state of Alaska. Sad to say the Trooper remains a protected employee, that is the agreement. Sara Palin was and is not allowed to foist her own ideas, notions or vendettas on the agreement.

That was the whole point of the investigation, to find out if she exceeded her authority. And the final answer was yes and no. Yes, she violated ethic laws but no she did not violate the hire/fire regulations totally.

No, she stands accused of violating an ethics law big difference. Please note “accused of” only the legislature of Alaska can actually impeach and or convict her of said charges. But she is accused of breaking a real law on the books in Alaska. Right now she is an unindicted alleged perpetrator of a crime; not exactly a great bullet for the resume of someone who aspires to become the Vice President of the United States.

One more time he is not “guilty” of anything. It is an administrative action, not a criminal compliant not even a civil action. It is just documentation justifying a suspension.
