Grumpy Old Guy * Open Thread

On this occasion, the grumpy old guy quizzes Barack Obama rather strenuously on his campaign donations:

Open Thread!

  • AnninCA

    Fun one…..thanks!

  • ritamary

Here’s another grumpy old guy. Sorry if someone else has already mentioned this, but did anyone else see Fidel Castro’s prognostication on the election? He said our “profound racism” will prevent millions of people from voting for Barack Obama.

Castro playing the race card! He has joined forces with other pathetic and deluded Obots. What a boost for the Obama campaign.

    • http://JohnMcCain.com Galt, Master Thrall of Planet Triskelion

The actual “profound racism” is coming from Obama and his supporters.

      • doc99

Or sexism, as the lovely Obot with the delightful Sarah Palin T-shirt demonstrates. And to think this is a woman…

        • http://JohnMcCain.com Galt, Master Thrall of Planet Triskelion

Sexism, racism, misogyny, elitism, classism, ageism, homophobia – a veritable smorgasbord of prejudice, bigotry and intolerance coming from The Precious and his evil minions/lemmings. I hope the lemmings have parachutes.

        • sayitisntso

          doc99,

A woman, who, no doubt, has no aspirations to raise herself above the level of liberal “feminism”! She is probably hurting on a level undescribable. But, if not, at the least, she lacks imagination for what women’s lives COULD be like with out what excuses itself as “feminism” today.

Aaaand this is for all us grumpy folks…Mac sez’s got Barky where he wants him…Aaaaand Pundits and pollsters forgot that americans decide elections not the media…CHEERS!

Thanks for another great grump video…NQ ROCKS!

    • sayitisntso

      Castro’s comment:

Last time I checked we don’t recognize Cuba’s government.

Another reason not to let Fraudbama sit down with leaders of countries who hate us!

    • MOmule

Fidel has survived for forty odd years and is a pretty smart guy. Battista’s Cuba wasn’t exactly heaven on earth – and I believe Castro started out with good intentions, but the usual happened “Power corrupts, etc…”. But this could be a crafty way of helping destroy BO. Do we really know who the old Cubano would prefer in the White House? With saying this, it certainly will turn off a load more Americans. If only he had got into a baseball team here way back when, history would have been different!
Love Grumpy’s video – but unless the art work on the wall is all prints, I doubt he is just a poor old guy. However, since he has created a great persona for the cause, he gets my sincere thanks.

      • OldGrumpyGuy

The artwork on the walls is my own!

  • Docelder

Well now we have it. Like every other charge the Obama campaign makes… they are really talking about themselves. So now we know the truth… Obama is Bush.

(What if the unthinkable does happen on November 4? Some possible new lyrics for a well known song…)

    Hail to the Thief

Hail to the Thief who the presidency’s taken,
Days so historic we cannot fail to note,
Now the republic’s foundations have been shaken
Down to the notion of one person one vote.

With a bang and a boom and the clanging of a drum
And a cash contribution from the lord of a slum,
You too can have the White House and your own band
Serenading you while you proceed to plunder the land.

Hail to the Thief and his caucus goons so hellish
Those who by fraud made his voting tallies swell,
In some primaries where they could not embellish
He either lost or didn’t do quite as well.

With a bang and a boom and the clanging of a drum
And a cash contribution from the lord of a slum,
You too can have the White House and your own band
Serenading you while you proceed to plunder the land.

Hail to the Thief by whom we were all enlightened
Hail to the man with such wisdom to impart,
If Grandma in certain neighborhoods was frightened
She’s just a typical white person at heart.

With a bang and a boom and the clanging of a drum
And a cash contribution from the lord of a slum,
You too can have the White House and your own band
Serenading you while you proceed to plunder the land.

Hail to the Thief and the treasury’s new drainer,
Hail to the Thief who the presidency’s reached,
Was he with vote stealers or was he their trainer
Maybe we’ll find out when the man is impeached.

With a bang and a boom and the clanging of a drum
And a cash contribution from the lord of a slum,
You too can have the White House and your own band
Serenading you while you proceed to plunder the land.

    • agent77

      your song is really great

    • Zeke

I think you’re now protected as the author of this lyric but keep your ears open if someone starts a recording of this and makes a few bucks!
Or just send it to Red State Update… they might buy it from ya!
      Great Job!
Reminiscent of the great old Mad Magazine song parodies

  • Fenelon spoke

I like Grumpy Old Guy. I think he would be excellent in plays-some sort of dry Britsh humor. I also like the beautiful art on the walls. I know that’s not profund political analysis-but that’s all I can give you right now! ;^)

    Ha ha. Thanks Grump!

  • CamdenRave

College kids who join a conservative fraternity move to the right during their four years in college. Liberals from Boulder asked to discuss some issues of the day, such as global warming and gay marriage, are more liberal at the end of their discussion than before. Racists brought into a room to discuss race grow more intolerant.

Social psychologists have conducted scores of these “group polarization” experiments since the ’60s, and they all come to the same finding: Like-minded people in a group grow more extreme in the way they are like-minded.

    • http://JohnMcCain.com Galt, Master Thrall of Planet Triskelion

Like-minded people in a group grow more extreme in the way they are like-minded.

In the case of this blog that’s a great thing. We are more extreme than ever in out opposition to Obama and his racist, classist, ageist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic and elitist trolls.

Not sure what you are trying to imply but it does appear to be trollish. It does not take a rocket scientist to know opinions of like minded people amplify each other. In the case of this blog that is a great thing. We need to come together to defeat a threat to our very way of being.

Did anyone notice that Obama is STILL trying to stop smoking? http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/USElection/2008/10/07/7010166-ap.html (My sympathies — it took me years to stop.) But — all the more reason why he should release ALL his medical records.

    The article says:

Quitting smoking didn’t create “huge withdrawal symptoms,” the Illinois senator said, partly because he smoked only seven or eight cigarettes a day at his peak.

So why can’t he quit if there have been no huge withdrawal symptoms? BTW, smoking even a few cigarettes a day is still very hazardous to one’s health.

In both sexes, smoking 1-4 cigarettes per day was associated with a significantly
higher risk of dying from ischemic heart disease and from all causes, and from lung cancer in
women. Smoking control policymakers and health educators should emphasize more strongly
that also light smokers endanger markedly their health.

    • Zeke

      well, keep the good thought!
      :)

    • lark

He can’t quit because he lies to himself on that.

He is disqualified for the WH since it is a smoke free zone.

He will be a nightmare for the FBI every time he will walk outside the WH to have a puff.

Does the new gossip about Obama having his ex finance chair of his 2004 election, as his secret mistress scare you?

Well it should, because I think it far more likely that Vera Baker is in the Caribbean so that she can accept donations to the campaign, then sneak them into the Obama campaign without a problem…can you say money laundering…

She collects money, just as she always has, except now she is outside the USA, so she sends it to her Florida office, with a mechanism to get it into the donations without a trace…

She is on the payroll of a big fish in Chicago..

How long will it take the FBI and the MSM to get to the bottom of this woman’s real purpose??

Check out Hillbuzz, Cannonfirebogspot, and previous posts here @ NQ.

I think the sex is a side show for the real prize…money.

    • Read my lipstick

      Hi ford,

This is an interesting theory and it makes more sense to me than the gossip stories about BO having an extra-marital affair with a woman.

Off-shore money laundering is entirely within BO’s modus operandi.

Do you have any documentation that supports this?

    • bemused

I thought she might be there as an attractive diversion for the MSM from things like ACORN. Who wouldn’t want to go to Martinique to pursue a sex scandal?

    ATTN:

OMG. Was just watching FOX, saw Obama at podium with a hybrid American / Obama flag behind him. How in the world can that be behind him and NO ONE from TV mentions it?

It looks like an American Flag but there is an “O” on it, outlined white and then red in the center.

Please tell me someone else saw this!!

    • ohio

It’s the state of Ohio flag.

    • Soldier of Christ

It is an Ohio state flag….I thought the same thing

    • Docelder

Sounds like an Ohio flag. But, just for fun… suppose Obama had a new flag for us all… and let’s supose his friend Ayers decided to not just stand on it… but decided to be photographed standing on it? what would happen to Ayers? I wonder what he would think of his “new country” then?

    • Benjamin

Hope someone has a You Tube of that speech. Only Obama would create his own FLAG, and place it up there right next to the American Flag.

    • TexasVoter

I also saw it and couldn’t believe my eyes. Made me sick to see that “O” in the middle. Every other one was just like it.

What can I tell ya. That line about, “unless they are doing it unwittingly without their knowledge” is right on.

Whoever created this video should sign up the Grumpy Old Man as a guest on the Chris Matthews Show or let him chat with Keith Olbermann. Somehow I think neither one of them would be a match for the Grumpy Old Man.

What is the difference between socialism and communism?

Socialism and communism are alike in that both are systems of production for use based on public ownership of the means of production and centralized planning. Socialism grows directly out of capitalism; it is the first form of the new society. Communism is a further developement or “higher stage” of socialism.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his deeds (socialism). From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs (communism).

The socialist principle of redistribution according to deeds– that is, for quality and quantity of work performed, is immediately possible and practicle. On the other hand, the communist principle of redistribution according to needs is not immediately possibile and/or practical– IT IS AN ULTIMATE GOAL.

That last part summs it up. The Ultimate goal of socialism is communism.

    • notrees

Sorry commrades–I forgot this link. :)
      http://www.marxmail.org/faq_frame.htm

    • WildChild

yeah, I don’t think so. The commies went straight to being commie. Socialism isn’t an intermediate step.

      • notrees

OH YEAH? Hitler belonged to the National Socialist Party before he took over. And the USSR or Unions of Soviet Socialist Republic– and Cuba and on and on . Mousolini. Long list

        • WildChild

Hitlar wasn’t a commie. He was a facist…and he went straight to fascism.

          • notrees

Oh Really?. You still miss the point either/or any way you look at it. The ultimate goal of socialism is communism.

            • WildChild

Except that you haven’t provided an example of a socialist state after a stable period of socialism voluntarily becoming communist. The communist states back in the twentieth century went straight to communism. They didn’t pass go. They didn’t collect two hundred dollars

            • JozefAL

Have to agree with WildChild, here, notrees. Socialism’s ultimate goal is NOT communism. Communism is another economic/political theory that BORROWS from socialist theory but has a different goal.
Socialism, for instance, still thrives in Sweden and Denmark (where it co-exists, quite happily, with capitalism). One should note, too, that many African nations have experimented with socialism and ended up with dictatorships on both sides of the political spectrum. The former Zaire, for instance, began with a strong socialist influence but became a very heavy-handed RIGHT-WING (and pro-US) dictatorship under Mobutu (who, somewhat ironically, started his road to dictatorship with a strong Socialist agenda). The neighboring Congo Republic (not to be confused with the former Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo) started with a modest Socialist agenda but swiftly moved towards a very strong pro-Marxist agenda. South Africa’s Nelson Mandela had very strong pro-Communist leanings but once he became South Africa’s first post-apartheid President, he never implemented any Marxist or Communist ideals upon the country (interestingly, his story was the opposite of Fidel Castro’s–Castro started off as a mere Socialist who only became a Communist because the US turned him away because he wouldn’t be another US lackey as Batista had been; if the US hadn’t imposed the sugar embargo to retaliate against Castro’s independence, Castro wouldn’t have accepted the Soviet’s offer and become a Communist).
Of course, notrees, you sound like the standard “know-nothing stuck-in-the 1950s Commie-under-every-bed” jerk who would’ve voted against Kennedy because he was a Catholic who would take orders from the Pope. It needs to be remembered that unions were attacked because they tried to get decent living conditions and wages for oppressed workers and, in the 1920s, accused of being Communists and the top goal of right-wingers was to destroy the unions, something that nearly happened during the Reagan years. Northern unionized auto states found themselves losing jobs to Southern NON-unionized states (ironically, some of those Southern plants are beginning to talk about unionization). The unions helped end the period of the greedy robber barons who felt that the only purpose of capitalism was to enrich them on the backs of the workers; it should be noted that many factory workers from 1850 to the early 1900s worked in conditions that were as deplorable as the very slavery that ended after the Civil War (to some, the only difference between slavery and factory work was that slaves got free room and board under deplorable conditions while factory workers had to pay for their deplorable condition). If you want to, go find some job where the boss expects you to work for 100 hours a week at minimum wage, no overtime pay, no guaranteed sick leave or holidays or vacations, no opportunities for advancement or pay raises (unless minimum wage goes up), being fired or laid off for no cause (or worse, because the boss doesn’t like your political views or your gender or your spouse or significant other), then come back and praise the virtues of unfettered capitalism. The simple fact is that capitalism works best ONLY when it allows everyone to enjoy it, not when it exploits others. It’s hard for someone who feels exploited by “the system” to appreciate the system.
True socialist countries help to reassure their people that no one will be ignored because of their inability to pay for something. In this manner, socialism embodies the teachings of Jesus (no matter how often the corporate capitalists like to claim Him for themselves).

I agree Jozefal with much of your history lesson, except I call BULLSHIT… just what exactly has Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, George Soros, Jim Johnson, Franklin Raines, Barney Frank, Penny Pritzger, Resko, or Jeremiah Wright, done altruistically for America? Terrifying – but not surprising, I guess – fascism gearing up right under our noses.

The big orange-type commenters seem to think this is related to Sarah Palin and the potential election of another republican ticket. If I had to guess, though, I’d say it’s related to “The One” – especially after reading “They Came for Jessica, and I Will Not be Silent” from Hillbuzz:

I had read this happened – I think here at NQ – the Secret Service showed up at someone’s house based on the word of a lowly 0bama volunteer who lied and said the woman made a death threat against 0bama, when what she really said was she didn’t like 0bama and gave some of the reasons why. This piece, by Roger Hedgecock, is truly chilling! Especially when he writes near the end of the piece:

“Because that girl on the phone doesn’t have the pull to send the Secret Service to my home. Someone high in the ranks of a campaign working for a man who may be the next President of the United States of America felt comfortable bringing the force of the Federal Government to bear on a private citizen on nothing but the word of a partisan volunteer.”

Taken together with the intimidation campaign against WGN Radio because it aired an interview about the Obama-Ayers connection, the use of local criminal prosecutors to intimidate TV stations in certain states to not run ads critical of Obama, and the use of race to rally black voters and shame white voters, the Obama campaign’s M.O. in Jessica’s case is a warning.

Are/is? State (government) onwned banks the first step toward Socialism and ultimately communism? That is what the Bush is proposing. Damn, and I thought it wouldn’t happen in my life-time. I sure am hopeing McCain and Palin pull it off. But does he have to be so frigging nice to BO?

    • Docelder

It’s “proposal number five” straight out of “The Communist Manifesto” by Karl Marx.

  • Gianni

I like this video a lot. Saw it several days ago and it really makes some great points.

I also want to point out that Governor Palin’s attorney has released a devastingly effective rebuttal to the sham of the investigation which was Troopergate. He even suggests that, rather than Governor Palin being accused of ethics violations, perhaps it should be the committee members themselves for their recklessness in trying to make something, anything stick against Palin. The link is below. Perhaps Larry will post this to the group and open it up for discussion

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/10/being-squirrell.html

Jake Tapper outs Obama on ACORN:

As reports pile up of voter registration fraud connected to ACORN — the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, a group that advocates for low-income voters – the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has sought to downplay his past ties with the group.

But in their efforts to do, Obama campaign officials found themselves forced last week to correct an erroneous assertion made on the campaign’s “Fight the Smears” webpage that “Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.”

    That wasn’t true.

In fact, ACORN spokesman Lewis Goldberg told the New York Times that Obama conducted two unpaid leadership training sessions for ACORN’s Chicago affiliate in the late 1990s.

The “Fight the Smears” website now asserts, “Fact: ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.”

    Key word: hired.

There’s more to Tapper’s story — others here are more expert on the details so I’ll just point out this story. (It’s nearing the end of the campaign, and my brain is running out of memory. I need to stay focused on stories I know in depth. I’ll be doing a brain system cleanup and archive on election day.)

    • Firefly

…the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has sought to downplay his past ties with the group.

BS by Tapper. Barky’s campaign has just plain lied about it – “sought to downplay” indeed!

And then Tapper says “his past ties with the group” – nothing about CURRENT ties.

Typical corporate media. So now they can say they’ve “covered the subject thoroughly – it’s been done now – no need to talk about it any further.” And while they’ll admit it may be a “mild” concern to some, it is a “non-story now.”

Big Donations Fraud by Obama (Saudi Arabian?)

Obama has some (Saudi Arabian, I think) donor matching small donations so that they are all doubled. I’ve seen this for some time now, just got another one today, from democraticparty@democrats.org, it says:

We need to grow this movement by 100,000 new donors before Friday.

A previous donor has promised to match your donation to encourage you to give for the first time. This is your last opportunity to partner with a fellow supporter and make your donation go twice as far.

Your donation of $5 will become $10, $25 becomes $50, and $50 becomes $100. Double your impact by making a matched donation today.

So what donor is breaking the legal donations limit to sneak all this money in? I don’t think it’s an American, because they would be prosecuted. No, an overseas donor who has no business in America can safely donate these funds. A Saudi Arabian is my guess. We are being hijacked and bought by the Jihad!!!

    • lark

Saudis know how to do that to perfection and they have the system in place to do it because they are used to funding thousands of Saudi students in this country.

Susan, I can’t believe that you are writing stuff like this. What has happened to you. You are wanting McCain and Palin to win…You are sure not acting like the person I admired for years on Booman.

  • beachnan

As a loyal Dem for over 36 years, I can understand what Susan and Larry are trying to do. They are trying to bring to light why BO should not be elected. I can see by your comments Diane 101 that you are someone who has drank the koolaid. How sad for you. Thank you to Susan and Larry for trying to bring BO’s issues to light. I only hope that some day, people like Diane will realize how they have been duped and be grateful there are people like you. I heard on the radio today, that a young woman wearing her McCain/Palin T-shirt to the movies was told by someone working at the movie theater that they wouldn’t sell a ticket to a racist. This is an incredible indictment of BO and his followers. This is the type of thing we will be facing if he is elected.

    • Diane101

au contraire, I think you and folks here have drunk the koolaid and I hope that you guys come to your senses as well. It’s funny how both sides feel the other is so wrong, but you don’t just feel the other side is wrong but horribly misguided and lots of etc. and etc. even duped and cheering for racism, really…every point that is trying to be made here can be refuted, but only to those who are willing to see the truth.
Seriously do you think Sarah will make a good president, please!!!!!! She is barely literate, I don’t see how that can be spun any other way. McCain is a doddering old man and with his health history Sarah may well be President. He has many, many problems beside that and I sure hope your side does not win and saddle us with more years of bad government.

  • Gianni

Diane101, were you a Hillary Clinton supporter? If so, did you admire the viciousness of the Obama campaign and his supporters against the Clintons and their supporters? Did you like the Hillary nutcrackers, the Bros before Hos t-shirts, the derisive nicknames for Senator Clinton (Billary, Hildebeast, etc.), the rank misogyny of talking heads in the tank for Obama such as Cafferty, Olbermann, and Matthews? After all that, after being called racist time and time again merely for not supporting Obama, you are now ready to turn around and vote for this guy? Where is your self-respect? Let me turn around your comment on you. I sure your side does not win and saddle us for more years of bad government. They have already destroyed the democratic party. Let’s not let them destroy America.

this video is full of chuckles! thanks for posting it, i needed to watch something that would express my anger in a healthy way: LAUGHTER!

laughter at how amazingly arrogant and no-plan-man obama really is.

my favorite is the howard stern one with the majates who don’t even know mccain policies from obama’s policies; and to top it off don’t even know that sarah palin is NOT OBAMA’S RUNNING MATE.
