Post-Debate Analyses [Update Qs & Thoughts]

[CLOSING COMMENTS HERE NOW. GO TO 2nd post-debate thread.]

Well, how did it go? What are the “talking heads” saying? Are any of you willing to check MSNBC and CNN to see what their “experts” are saying?

Update: Special thanks to Fox News for offering live streaming of the debate! That was terrific. Let’s hope Fox provides live streaming again on November 4th, and I’ll add it again. Drawback: It clearly made the blog run much slower at times; we will need extra server “muscle” if we do live streaming again. YOUR THOUGHTS on the live streaming?

Update #2: This is what I wrote to a close friend halfway through the debate. I hesitated to share it here, but you deserve to know what I thought of McCain’s “performance,” critical as it was. (McCain had him on many debate points, but sadly perception is a big factor.)

Obama is writing revisionist history (about Ayers) but McCain talks in shorthand bursts that only people who know the story, like us, will really understand.

The problem is style: Obama speaks in fluid sentences that anyone can understand and sound credible. McCain doesn’t.

(I’m writing this just over four hours before the debate. I hope when this post appears, that we are all in good spirits, and that John McCain has landed some blows … and I’m listening to our hero, Lynn Forester de Rothschild on Neil Cavuto’s show. They’ll have the video up, and you’ll have already seen it by now since I’ll post it the second it’s up. Lynn Rothschild ALWAYS makes me feel better, and MORE RESOLUTE!)

FOX is giving Mac kudos but also asking if it’s enough.

Barry had no choice but to LIE HIS ASS OFF about kicking off his state senate campaign in Bill Ayer’s living room.

Typical Barry: Lie, Spin, Hide in Nuance.

Let’s see if the media follows up on this fact – not.

McCain was on his game — he called Obama on his lies.

Thankfully I won’t have to listen to Obama-Soetoro again.

I wonder if anyone will be listing all of Obama’s lies from TONIGHT?

Susan, thank you and Larry for providing the streaming coverage (fantastic!) and the welcoming place to hang out with the people. You’ve enriched this political season for all of us.

I believe that McCain came out the winner tonight, he attacked Obamas record, and Obamas stuttering responses don’t sit well. Obama cannot debate without having a teleprompter in front of him, he can’t speak off the cuff. Obamas views are right along communist lines, and that is one place I don’t want to even think about going. McCain & Palin in 08 11

  • LookingForwardTo2012

Every comment I’ve read, so far, at Greta Wire is kudos to John McCain.
    Poll number
    John McCain 92%
    Barack Obama 5%

    Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tek

I watched it until Schieffer started giving Obama a free stage to sing his own praises. I always find it hilarious when Obama starts trying to defend himself by accusing the opposition of the very thing he’s doing. He’s run such a clean campaign, dontcha know? What a farce.

  • cathnealon

You know how I know Barry is exactly like Bush, I have to mute the sound every time he speaks, he makes me literally sick just like I’ve done every time GB spoke for the last 8 years.

  • http://rightandleft.wordpress.com Marissa

This is not going to last. Obama is “THE ONE” so his poll numbers will be askew.

Also consider that even with his outrageous “leads” on these Internet polls, Obama supporters are rabid and will do all they can to make these polls look better than they really are. Ron Paul supporters pulled this tactic during the primaries and Obama supporters are simply carrying on the tradition.

JMc made several great points already mentioned on these posts, plus a few more.
Education is the civil rights issue of our time. It does no good to make all schools open to everyone but inner city students are forced to attend substandard schools. We need to provide vouchers. Look what’s happening in D.C. (BO: well, the D.C. schools have a great new Superintendent; JMc: Yes, and she supports vouchers…); balancing the budget beginning with an across-the-board spending freeze – the hatchet – with fine-tuning afterward – the scalpel (BO: That’s not the way to do it; JMc: Well, Mayor Bloomberg did this in NYC and mayors across the country are doing this..)

  • Clinton Fan

CNN says McCain won the first thirty minutes, hands down.

Most are saying McCain was on offense, aggressive, eloquent; Obama was professorial and ponderous.

I think McCain had his best night ever–he ended on a high note.

Obama’s “reaction shots” looked just short of Al Gore’s sighs (and I like Gore).

Of course, the theme is that Obama must win, which is why McCain always got the tough questions FIRST.

Watch the debate again, and you’ll see that half the time, he REPEATS, for his answer, what McCain ALREADY SAID.

Best JM line: “I AM NOT GEORGE W. BUSH.”

JEEEEZ….I wish Clinton were the D candidate. The BEST CANDIDATE stayed home.

  • indypol

McCain rocked tonight. Obama ducked, weaved and rope-a-doped all night. The Mac is definitely on a roll now. Go John!

Well, that must have been pretty early on, Tek! :-D What, like after the first five minutes? Sheesh – such blatant bias, letting Obama go on, and on,and on, and on abt NOTHING. Oh, wait – after he said, “Ditto” to John.

What a liar. He is just a bald-faced liar.

Did you notice how often the camera would have him dead in the center, like he was all by himself? He knew it, too – you could see him sit up and try to look presidential. Blech.

  • Illinois_gal

I agree. The streaming coverage was cool. Thank you NQ.

McCain was great tonight. Loved it!!

  • tek

Yes, I still don’t know what he’s going to do with the money he takes from the upper middle class, like the plumber. He just keeps saying he’s going to take money from people who’ve managed to make a good living and give it to teachers & nurses, etc. But what for? That’s what he isn’t saying. I believe nurses and teachers make just as much money as that plumber.

When Obama says he’s going to “help the people behind you,” he means he’s going to take our money and give it to people who don’t work or work illegally so they don’t make a subsistence wage. There’s a better way to give everyone opportunity.

  • Seattle Moss

[As to the comment above: I would love to think this is the last time we have to hear from Barky. Let's just hope it comes true on November 4th.]

IF WE DO THE LIVE STREAMING AGAIN, I think we need to add another server. It’s expensive to do that, but if Fox News provides us live streaming again — say for election night — we’re all ready to go with extra server muscle!

    Weak Overall.

McCain didn’t get up and kick barack in the balls, so he loses.

Obama had more grey frosted into his hair today at the salon so he wins.

Somone on another message board asked:

“How long can Obama keep lying to the american people about his past, his record and his proposals?”

Sadley, the answer is until he is anointed. Only then will the MSM begin to vet.

Just took a look around the “liberal media” sites that live blogged the debate. Common sentiment:

Some version of: Mr. Obama doesn’t address the issues raised.

But the most common sentiment: obama was cool mccain was angry.

Yup. The “liberal media” didn’t bother changing the script they used in the last two debates.

I am offended that Obama thinks he should draft our kids but he didn’t serve. He doesn’t volunteer for anything. He barely gives to charity.

  • hadenough

Sadley, the answer is until he is anointed. Only then will the MSM begin to vet.

You are pretty optimistic. The “liberal media” didn’t stop praising bush until well in to his second term and he still hasn’t been vetted. But if that fraud is crowned king I hope you are right.

  • andySF

I think I just figure out why Obama always does better at the end of the debate.

He never shuts up!! If you pay attention, you will see that he used up at least 65% of the minutes. When you sit there hearing someone go on and on and on, you will get irritated, as you can see happen to McCain. He’s kind of off message at the end.

Lesson, don’t debate with a BSter. Not in front of MSM who will just let Obama keep yapping away anyway.

  • Felizarte

I was a very strong and loyal supporter of Sen. Clinton, but for the life of me, I don’t understand why she has to go out of her way to promote someone who has so abused her and continue to abuse women in general.

If he gets in the WH (I won’t say elected, because ain’t no way) you can expect tons of stuff like this. He’ll be stickin’ it to Whitey every way he can. White people who vote for this clown will be kicking themselves.

He never did say which programs exactly he would not implement. I notice he never talks about Faith BAsed Initiative or Neighborhood Project anymore.

    Yup.

What the nyts caucus blog said:
A Relentless McCain | 9:50 p.m. Mr. Obama seems kind of astounded at Mr. McCain’s repetitions of things that he thought he had put to rest — Mr. Ayers, tax increases. Mr. Obama keeps looking at Mr. Schieffer with eyes wide, as if to say, can you believe it?

I bet they all dropped their monocles when mccain went after obama’s horrible choices for friends.

I think McCain did very very well. Not as good as I expected in a lot of instances but good enough to get at least his point across. I would have liked a little stronger on the issue of filthiness against Sarah Palin and the issue of the t-shirts. But at least he got in the word t-shirt.

McCain did a very good contrast with BO, in simple terms and exposed him for what he is, an ultra left liberal that want to have his way with our money and our lives. McCain exposed BO as a controlling personality and exposed the Dem Congress as a dangerous institution willing to spend as much as they can get through legislation.

Thank God for McCain. I hope people can see through BO and run away from him. I hope so.

  • McHope

it was not weak Jeremiah. He hit obama on funding over a million to ACORN.
He said ACORN is in the process of shredding our democracy. You guys have impossible expectations. Obama rambled and rambled.
McCain nailed him on his Born Alive Vote. McCain nailed him over and over for “spread the wealth”
Mccain nailed him for John Lewis. Obama said who cares.
Obama came off very arrogant and smirking.
The bush line was golden. Obama looked detached.
Mccain cannot do whole debate about associations for US and the media to pick through. The economy is in the shitter and McCain needed to talk about that.
He made very good points on Free Trade and hit him for saying he would unilateraly shut down NAFTA.

The press will say what they will. Tonight Mac did what most poeple said. Now their complaining because he did not make a whole economic debate on A preacher. Ayers really has not worked. It is time for the outside groups to nail him. McCain has run ads and Palin has mentioned it all week.

  • Leisa

They are… and I turned them off.

I think the biggest problem McCain has is Obama is the smoothest talking liar he has ever come across in a debate on a nationals stage.

How many lies did Obama respond with. This was just incredible. What is McCain going to do, call him a bold faced liar on national television? He already has the media painting him as angry…

Just compare the closing statements and you will see who is more honorable. Obama had to get his dig in.

  • http://www.newsweek.com/id/138519 jessinwis

Who else thinks it’s eery when Obama starts smirking, grinning broadly when he’s been caught. Is that the Chicago way of condescendingly brushing off a “gotcha?”. That smile is disconcerting — it’s instantly pasted on when he’s trying to dismiss troublesome issues. I find it annoying and artificial. McCain, for all flaws in debate skills, comes across as more human, someone who can feel our pain. McCain won–even if he can’t go all the way, given the force of the machine that wants to roll over McCain/Palin, I am proud of the candidate I support. We have nothing to regret in backing McCain. Smart, funny, fun-loving. He’s a winnner already.

  • Steve_in_KC

Obama came across smoother and didn’t drift quite as much as before, and since his only goal was to keep an even keel, he succeeded. McCain tried to take it to him, but as many, including myself, have said here, the debates are not for knock-out punches. That is media hype. If McCain has come on any stronger, the media would rip him a new one for being “angry, accusatory, and off topic.”

Mac did good. I still say the best is yet to come, and if you expected a big drama tonight, you were hyped.

obama lied about his health care plan.

He said there would be a penalty if somebody waited to sign up for his plan. obama won’t say how much.

Tonight he told joe the plumber he would not be fined because small biz are excempt if they don’t provide health care. But if joe the plumber waits to get health care he, joe the plumber, will pay a fine, joe’s company that doesn’t provide health care won’t pay a fine but joe the plumber will.

That’s a huge lie by obama. Good thing for him the “liberal media” has endless amounts of white wash and wall paper.

  • Taj

scorbs, I saw that too and wondered WTF?!

4 out of 23 undecided people are now supporting Obama, so that means he had a “good night”? And earlier, when he asked how many people thought Obama won, I would say half or less raised their hand – and Luntz said “An overwhelming majority.”

    That absolutely confounded me.

  • Sally

Don’t delude yourselves my dear peers….Obama won because COOLER…..NOT BETTER (as it should be).

Obama looked like a sweaty drunk and I think that a lot of voters are going to be unpleased with his “In like Flynn” attitude tonight. These silly pundits can say whatever they want, but McCain is going to win. The election is still too close considering the Bradley Effect. Just hold tight a few more days folks.

  • oowawa

It’s because McCain was never really one of their own. He really is a maverick who is not beholden to the conservatives. He does not run with their agendas to the extent that they would like. And basically, they don’t like him. On the surface they sometimes act like they want him to win, but deep down many of them want him to fail.

Daily Kos and other Bot bloggers put up a list of media polls, with links, before the debate is even over, so the Obama supporters can freep those polls.

Follow the Drudge poll. Kos always forgets to add that one, and it shows McCain winning every time.

  • IndieDogg

McCain wasn’t talking to the people who are already going to vote for Obama, the people who would vote for him even if the Pope was found dead in his trunk. He’d just say John Lewis must have done it and his supporters would all testify Obama was at their house, checking the plumbing, when it all went down.

No, the Mac was talking to the rest of us, those who want to see the fighter pilot (and we did) and those who are still sitting on the fence, propped up there by the Three Four Blind Mice of Broadcasting (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN).

It doesn’t bother me at all that people who are already caught in the rapture will praise the “O” — let them. They’re not going to elect John McCain and Sarah Palin (if anybody saw her interview in New Hampshire, she was incredible, kicking ass).

    The rest of us are.

By the way, there was only one “O” who deserved the name and that was Oscar Robinson, not Barack Obama.

Which has nothing to do with anything, true. Just thought I’d toss it in there. Feeling good.

Let’s all figure out what we can do tomorrow to win this election.

I thought that Bo got flushes several times, and had unpleasant looks on his face…he is not used to a sharp jab.

FOX seemed to want MAC to come out and go crazy, and that would have played into the MSM hands…MAC was MAC.

He is a great man, and nothing happened that will prevent MAC from being president.

BO lied his ass off! Flagrantly, and in a regular manner the MSM should come down on the flat out lies…but

    I must prepare myself.

Did you notice that Luntz said how many thought Obama won, and 8 or so raised their hands, and he said Obama won…there were 9 or more that did not put their hand up…and a few said they would not vote on someone on the base of the debate….trust.

  • kristen D.

Mac blew it. He seemed nervous and not angry enough. He also never elaborates. It was frustrating. I couldn’t stand it anymore. Every time I hear Obama’s voice, he reminds me of some Saturday morning cartoon in the 1970′s. I turned the channel to Project Runway Finale. I’m still going to vote for McCaine, though, and try to convince other. I hope for a miracle.

Also, I would like everyone to know (in case you didn’t) that when you are a small business owner, s-Corp or LLC, your profit from your business (yearend) go on your personal tax return. It is very easy to go over $250,000. That does not mean that you made $250,000 that year. That money goes back into Jan. 1 tax year to pay for vendor and payroll, etc. This is very very bad. Obama lying on the stats.

  • Mr. Natural

Clinton Fan: me too. I didn’t hear Obama say anything brilliant for all that the media try to make him out to be the Second Coming.

    More like sloppy seconds.

I didn’t really say that. I was merely illustrating what I could have said if I were tasteless, which I am not. So… uh, I think I’ll go make that donation to No Quarter right now. Yep. Right now.

  • Liz B

Did you guys notice when McCain tried to talk about the t-shirts Obama cut him off mid sentence and the Moderator backed him up. They knew what he was going to say, and that the MSM has not covered it at all.

I think McCain did a great job, but it had to be frustrating to sit next to a pathological liar and not be able to say “Go to my web site and I’ll show you exactly what you need to know about Barack Obama. His record, his lies, his mentors, his vision for America, his political alliances and our questions that continue to be ignored by the Obama camp…it’s all there folks” That is what I would like to have seen.

I do like McCain, and as I was watching him, I have to confess, I am ashamed of my years of not finding out what or who I was supporting. I did not know the agenda of the Left Wing of the party, and I isolated myself in a very smug community with other pseudo-intellectuals, who talked about how bad the GOP is and how mean and self righteous they are.

Truth is, I look around and all I see are mean spirited Democrats who believe without question that they are superior and they are right. They, as a party, are just not capable of bipartisanship.

I have discovered in the last year that yes, there are a lot of Republicans who are religious and their ideaology reflects their beliefs by being Conservative…conversely, the Democrats, by and largge have made their political views their religion, a religion whose moral compass can be shaped at the whim of the Interpretor.

These are probably not the things I should have been thinking during the debate, but I feel very sad that I did not commit myself to this cause a lot sooner and with the fervor I have previously saved for my son’s football games.

I hope the sadness and sense of seeing it all slip away will not be a predictor of the outcome of this Election.

Obama was regal presidential and a lightbringer. He smiled benevolantly as the angry bitter mccain writhed and spat forth lies and smears with bloody spittle shooting from his fang rimmed mouth.

If McCain had not been chaned to his chair under the table who knows who might have been physically harmed by this irrational monster and bomber of innocent vietnamese children.

If you don’t believe me just wait till 24 hours from now and read the MSM walk backs that will clearly show Obama doing spectacular and bringing a new meaning to nuanced while McCain becomes the poster child for crazy unhinged deranged 72 year old serial killers.

McCain is NOT a good debater and is not good about getting his points across and THAT will be held against him. It’s just so tragic that people are voting for the ‘smooth talker’, the one who speaks ‘eloquently’ – REGARDLESS of the issues and his shady, corrupt background.

I am saddened that people in this country can be ‘hoodwinked’ into believing someone who STILL AVOIDS ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS (which he did so AGAIN tonight – and got away with it) just becasue he spoke ‘well’. I thought Americans were smarter than that and could see throught the BS (and his GREAT ability to avoid answering questions) that Obama was spewing.

I thought the commentator let Obama spend MORE time on his answers than McCain – which is typical of these one-sided, biased debates. Sigh…

  • Pyromancer76

I am going to be general, and of course I am biased towards McCain. I thought that McCain got the better of every question. I thought he told Americans why “socialism” or government answers and government control was not the answer. It was not a knock out. I actually was glad that Obama did as well as he did and explained his positions as well as he did to all Americans. His college teacher experience held him in good stead — remember, he became a Senior Lecturer at U. of Chicago. (Not a Professor — this position means that you work your butt off teaching and publishing, something Obama never chose to do in any position.)

Pardon my “racism” but Obama in his public presentation is different from the “average” African-American who has been an American leader up to this time, e.g., Jesse Jackson. He has raised the bar immeasurably, for which I am pleased. At the same time, I am not suggesting that we need Columbia- and Harvard-educated African Americans for me to approve of them. I am just as happy with Joe six-pack or hockey- or basketball-Mom African Americans. “Middle-classness” is an important value for all societies that choose democracy. Democracy is not possible without a strong middle class.

I think McCain gave Americans every reason to vote for him when they are by themselves in that voting booth. Almost everyone on Larry Johnson’s blog, both presenters and most commenters (minus trolls), will come to that conclusion. AJ Strata has repeated the truth many times: McCain wants to change Washington [and Wall Street]; Obama wants to change America. I think the majority of Americans will move their marker to McCain-Palin on the ballot after this debate. (And McCain gave a pretty good summary as to why Biden is not “qualified” to “become President” in the event of…, well, you know.

Guys, don’t you understand that if Hillary refused to endorse Obama over McCain and remained with the Democratic Party, she would have NO political future. That means no means of promoting peace and prosperity for this country and no means of accomplishing important legislation.

If you want Hillary to be President in 2012 (as I do), then you have to accept that fact that she cannot repudiate her party or her party’s nominee. She has a political gun to her head, she’s saying what she needs to say to stay in the game. I don’t blame her in the least bit, and I am confident she will privately cast her vote for McCain in November.

you know what is rotten at fox? Obama has been crying about them being tough and even mentioned it again during the debate. Obama paid Fox and got them to postpone the 6th game of the world series for his half hour.

I do not know why anyone cares what they say. Care about how you feel and what you think. The media is doing well in shaping opinion.
Some on here are saying Obama won because he was cool? That is what the media has been telling you Obama is for the last year. Every debate they say this. Obama was not cool. He looked uncomfortable alot.

You don’t understand those idiots and their stupid fair and balance. Brit Hume and his idiots will bash McCain because they know that Hannity and then later on Greta is going to say praises for McCain. Then tomorrow the same stupid thing. The Fox people drank some kool-aid. McCain crushed Nobama into tiny pieces. If you look back at Halperin’s other grades, you’ll find that they were extremely close, I think B and B+ or something like this. This score was an A- B which means that Obama didn’t quite make it to even B+ level. McCain crushed him and the media is covering it up. Sickening.

  • Linda

It is sounding like CNN is giving McCain higher marks than Fox are. They have Obama all but elected. That is shocking to me. I’m wondering if its just being more critical of one of your own, these people at this table are all conservs. Clinton is on fox now.

  • Seattle Moss

    Fox is a business enterprise.
They believe that they can make more money by being in the opposition at this time.
That is why they are encouraging an Obama victory. The economy is bad and 100 days after Obama is elected they can do the same number on him as they did on Clinton. We are all on board with FOX and if Obama steals we will continue to watch.

I have not voted for a winner in an election since 1996. If Obama wins that makes three times for me.
I have noticed that when I’m in the opposition whether it be Bush or Obama I stay more active in politics.

  • jyotinc

McCain looks so strong tonight, a lot of punches. Did you see BO looking down when he’s been attacked. McCain brought up a lot of charges and BO keep on lying and spinning. The pundits on Fox were making me so mad, I had to come back to No Quarter. They were saying it was a draw and therefore the socialist won. What?!? I am so sick of these republicans who won’t get behind John McCain. Obama could stand up there and admit that he hates America and every democrat on CNN would praise him for it, including the ones that were for Hillary in the primaries. It seems like the republicans are still pouting that McCain is the nominee and he can’t do anything to please them. As a new Independent/ex-Dem, I can’t believe I support him more than they do. I can’t believe they are sllowing their pride to stand in the way of their country. Get on board you a’holes, we have an election to win. You can criticize McCain in February.

  • Jason

I’ll tell you what’s up with the parade-raining so-called “Republican” commentators on Fox who have done everything they can to gush praise on Obama and criticize McCain’s performance tonight.

    1) They think that they score some kind of “professionalism” points by praising Obama.

    2) I have a hankering that they secretly want an Obama Presidency, because it’ll give them a chance to sharpen their word skills for the next 4 years.

BO just had to respond to “palling round with terrorists.” and he lied.

Once again BO proved he is completely politically tone deaf.

At that point of the Debate he could have let it go. What an IGIT.

McCain saying that BO needs to be examined, three weeks before an election is a first.

I do not listen to the spin, it is of little value, owing to the fact that MSM is …a bit like a “zen question”.

Now they are doing the emo-meter readings.

    Very silly.

Over all BO came across as the empty suit he is. Really sad.

With in the first minutes BO said “I agree with John”,

Truth be told there are so many issue with a life of their own, what these candidates do or say will not have any immediate impact. That is, unless you are GW when he tries to talk up the market.

Judgment is critical in the next 24 months. Policies that are born of Good Judgment, in themselves have poor chance of being executed effectively.

It comes down to what you fear the most on the subliminal level. BO’s “Yes we can” has never included critical thinking.

I leave you in the good hands of “MY FRIEND WARREN BUFFET”.

His friend Warren, during a recent interview with Charlie Rose, looked like a kid at Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory!

His pupils had dollar signs in them. Remember that’s BO’s friend when you vote. And then Kiss main street good bye.

  • http://medusa2.wordpress.com Medusa

Obama is writing revisionist history (about Ayers) but McCain talks in shorthand bursts that only people who know the story, like us, will really understand.

The problem is style: Obama speaks in fluid sentences that anyone can understand and sound credible. McCain doesn’t.

Susan, I think that your points are true about some people’s perception. On the other hand, I know a lot of people who would be put off by Bozo’s smugness and smirks, and they would feel that he was talking down to them.

It’s hard to believe that any non-committed voter would be swayed either way by tonight’s debate, IMHO.

  • lark

Bring on Hannity. I think he’s probably going to be the only honest journalist on Fox tonight. That’s if he’s on?

  • NoTrollZone

Okay, I guess I can watch Hannity and Greta and Lou Dobbs and a couple of the women on Fox who anchor the day news. I no longer can stand Brit Hume being drunk every day and now a loyal Obamaphile.
O’Reilly has some sort of personality disorder which is rapidly approaching Obamphilehood. Cavuto doesn’t know if he’s sitting down or standing up.
Shepherd Smith seems to have the intelligence of Campbell Brown (and that minus something, maybe -120), and those cs beltway boys who pretend to be republicans which they do Obama can just take a flying fark.

  • Terry

I fully concur with Susan’s comments at the top of this thread. McCain did not articulately explain the real problem with Obama’s associations. Obama lies (e.g., I did not start my career in Ayers living room) and McCain can’t cite a source to refute that. He changes his opinion or mistates his policy platform, and McCain can’t draw blood on it.

I fully support McCain, but it is at times like this when I really appreciate what Hillary could do. She always had an answer for something.

McCain doesn’t talk in sound bites either. Maybe he’s done too many town halls and he forgets that not everyone has been listening to months about these issues. This is the point SusanUnPC was making – she’s absolutely right.

As for the media – well, McCain could have sounded like Lincoln at Gettysburg, and it wouldn’t matter a wit.

Now it is time for the ad wars – let’s go 527′s.

I am watching C-Span post debate because actual supporters of both candidates call in and give their opinions, not the talking heads who try to distort the truth on who won. In my opinion, McCain won handily over Mr. UH UH UH who was pandering to the voters.

  • CJ

I thought Obama looked like he was going to fall asleep.

One thing that I wish McCain had brought up during the Ledbetter example was the fact that yes, he voted against it (his reasons were trial lawyers, lawsuits) but that he hires more women and pays them more than Obama does. I really wish he would have said that.

And why do the analysts always talk about “tone”? If they felt that McCain’s tone was on the attack (which makes me laugh) how the hell do they think Obama can handle the Presidency?

  • AF catfish

Yep – another guy said I think Obama was a little better but I’m not voting for a good debater I’m voting for a president.

  • Pyromancer76

Liz B, I share your sentiments; oh, how I feel them. I hope Larry and all the other bloggers (and commenters) who are doing the job of investigative journalism will tell us what has happened to our news magazines and journals, newspapers, and network and cable stations. It is a tragedy that there is no current attempt to get at the “truth(s)” of the various issues.

Why? Why? Is it because of the global corporate system and the UN and the IPCC and Al Gore, Global Warming, etc.? I am so deeply, deeply disturbed. I read both Science and Nature Magazines; both are becoming shills in too many ways for corporate projects, e.g., global warming — or since the globe is not warming, climate change. It is all ideology and propaganda (religion) with tons of money as the reward. Where is the science? Where is the skepticism? Where is the investigation unto the truths? Where is hope for the (American) human condition? I think many of us are in deep consideration about what steps to take next. We must hold the fakers, the shills, and the liars accountable.

Ther will be no new business t give a tax break to. Two words: Credit Market.

Did anybody take note of Hillary’s body language. As she was praise Obama, her head was shaking “no, no, no…”

  • Jules

Or L as in Liar comes before P as in Patriot?

  • Objective analysis

You forget, he is still Kenyan born and Indonesian by adoption. He can’t be sworn in as president.

  • http://firefox McAnnie Carmel Baracuda

I heard the guy say that although Obama is eloquent, he wasn’t voting for a debater but a President and he was voting for McCain. That’s what gave the rest permission to vote that O won the debate. But only 4 changed to him.

  • TeakWoodKite

Hey breeze, It isn’t about Barky. Hillary is Hillary.

She find herself where she can do the best work, regardless.

  • John House

The kicker for me was this part:

McCain: And also the country that just freed three Americans that will help us create jobs in America because they will be a market for our goods and products without having to pay — without us having to pay the billions of dollars — the billion dollars and more that we’ve already paid.

Free trade with Colombia is something that’s a no-brainer. But maybe you ought to travel down there and visit them and maybe you could understand it a lot better.

Obama: Let me respond. Actually, I understand it pretty well. The history in Colombia right now is that labor leaders have been targeted for assassination on a fairly consistent basis and there have not been prosecutions.

Because RIGHT after Obama said that, I was like “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT???!!!!” and then I saw McCain’s face express the same thing I just yelled. Mac’s eyes widened and he looked incredulous and then he shook his head.

I mean…what the FUCK kind of answer was THAT to talk about free trade? That was the stupidest, stupidest answer Oblahma could’ve come up with at that moment.

  • AnninCA

I can only listen in spurts, to be honest. I find Obama’s talking points so ingenuous and irritating.

I am far too close to the election to figure out who “won” or “lost.” Obama hasn’t stumbled badly yet, so there’s no big story so far.

On the other hand, I find his positions untenable, the same BS. I’m in the midst of the question about what WILL you cut?

    Essentially, the same answer. Nothing.

    Is he kidding?

The stock market dropped 700 points today, bozo!

I too was perplexed by this. It’s like, what are you going to believe, Luntz or your lying eyes. And anyone who believes that his focus groups are really full of “undecideds” is seriously delusional.

    Soundbite of the night:

“Sen. Obama, I am not President Bush. If you wanted to run against Bush, you should have run four years ago.”

    Zzzzzzzzzzing!

  • 30yrdem-not any more

I heard a different McCain tonight, Obama did his stump speech, I am sick of the same talking points coming from Obama and his supporters.

  • http://ordinarymom politicalunderstudy

    Obama replies…
” Uhhmm, er, uh , ahh, the uh document is er uh not what the er uhh umm people want to uh hear about, Bob, they want to hear how I am going to pontificate about my umm uh , uhh ,,, proposals, yea, my proposals…..

  • AF catfish

    Jeremiah CBS said McCain won.

  • Andrew

I feel sick. I thought McCain did so well and then the commentators ruined it for me. Was I watching the same debate? Obama didn’t look presidential, he look obnoxious, giving that nasty smirk every two seconds. Obama just talked forever!!!! I wanted to punch him!

  • kristen D

Could Obama name drop some more. Warren Buffet vthis and Warren Buffett that. Warren Buffet is no Joe Plumber.

  • Brendy

After hearing Mitt Romney on Fox’s post debate make me wish so much that HE was the Republican nominee (just like I wish Hillary was the dem nominee). Romney is ONE smart man and he difinitely can get his points across, whereas McCain has SO much trouble.

  • apishapa

I watched CSPAN. I think Obama felt like he did badly, or he was mad about something because after the debate, after the handshaking, etc., Barack and Michelle walked off the back of the stage. The Obamas were outta there.

John and Cindy walked down the steps and into the crowd where they lingered shaking hands and talking to the spectators. Obama did not go down into the crowd. That is how the program ended; showing McCain shaking hands and Obama gone.

Maybe he’s glad to be done, but McCain was pretty enthusiastic after the debate. So, I think he at least was happy with how things went. Obama sulked off the stage. Appeared unfriendly. Obama did not appear happy with his debate.

  • http://firefox McAnnie Carmel Baracuda

We heard you the first time,”Sally.” I don’t really agree or like your anti-American rhetoric. But if that’s the way you really feel…why are you living here?

  • AnninCA

I simply must disagree. I’m a Hill gal all the way, and I watched her muff situation after situation on TV.

She got sharper, but Hill isn’t a natural politician. She is a natural stateswoman. But not a natural politician.

You know who is as good as Obama?

    Sarah Palin. That’s who.

She’s gifted, in exactly the same way.

McCain and Hillary are more alike. They know the deeper answers.

That is a handicap at times.

  • Hank

I was telling my wife the very same thing, OBiden also did it during the VP Debate. I’ll be sending emails to FoxNews maybe they can have one of those body languages interpreters check him out. I find it amusing that MSM hasn’t caught on or are just ignoring it.

  • hadenough

I really appreciate what Hillary could do. She always had an answer for something.

That’s not fair. Hillary is a once in several generations. We’ll have to wait 20 years before another like Hillary comes along.

  • Patrick Henry

It was the Most Interesting Debate yet…McCain was mentally sharp and on Point…But I agree that the Moderator was Lax in Allowing Obama to Cut McCain off…after BARACKUS went into his Long..Rants and like John Wayne McCain said..You can see how Eloquent Barackus can Speak.. John Wayne hadnothing to lose
..He should have said..”you can see what a Slick Bull Shitter Barackus is..”…He would have been a good Trial Lawyer for Sure…>He could have worked with Bomber Bill Ayers on all those Socialistic Prison reforms That Ayers and the Radical left Want…

OBarackus could have gotten all those Killers Like OJ out of Prison..

John Wayne McCain could have just Called Barackus’s Plans what they are..”Socialism”..What else does “Spreading The wealth mean??”

John should have Jumped on every Opening He was given…and Gotten Angry and tough.. Every Commentator says John Missed His “Knock out Moments..”

He got His Highest Marks for Aggressively saying..”Im Not President Bush..If You wanted to run against him..you should have done it four years Ago..”

But then…George Bush did not keep getting elected for looking Like a “Nice Guy”

He got elected on His Promises to be TOUGH..and Being the DECIDER..and re`elected using the same Attitude and Campaign..

All I saw tonight was RED STARS..behind John McCain and Barackus..No American Flags..

Red Stars are what Bill Ayers Wear on his Lapel..They are the Symbol of Communism and Socialism..

Those red Stars behind Obama Tonight…Symbolically
Represent the REAL Kind of Government we will get From BARACKUS..

Its all been Stacked in His Favor..

And the Mobs shouted..”Give Us barackus..”

    Give Us Barackus..”

Even tho John McCain was more Presidental Tonight..and More Truthful..

Some Commie wants Obammie in the White House..

  • leslie

I think Rove et. al actually want obama so he can fail and then the Repbulicans can come riding in to save the world.

They know there is almost nothing anyone can do to successfully resuscitate the nation after the debacle of shrub.

  • http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com InsightAnalytical-GRL

Hillary has blown it as far as I’m concerned. What’s she been promised to sell out? And, just being a “party girl” is no longer an excuse…frankly, her “leadership” is no longer evident to me…

  • thefirstwonderwoman

I agree with you Liz, I don’t know if McCain has a chance but I can’t vote for someone who votes like BO on the Born Baby alive act.

  • oowawa

Thank You, Sugar. This expresses my feelings exactly. And on this positive note I’m going to say goodnight and go to bed.

  • AnninCA

That was what he should have been saying all along about that meme.

  • LookingForwardTo2012

Please go to Fox and vote. McCain only has 33%,

    http://elections.foxnews.com/

  • Alice Paul WPB

I feel like I’m living in a nighmare. First the best candidate was thrown out then I figured there was no way BO would ever be elected.

Now I think that the money behind him may be enough to buy this election. That and also the fact that they must be putting something in the water. Rational people I know are voting for him. Even when I bring up many many issues. They don’t want to hear about it.

I’m glad we have well water, maybe they can’t get to it!

  • JMO

One thing I have noticed is that she does have a habit of shaking her head “no”….the opposite of what she’s saying. So it’s not just tonight.

  • Liz B

You know what? That visual just jarred my brain…I saw what you said…the New Democrats…I have been calling them that, and so have a lot of us, but what does that mean? I have been reading for the past couple of weeks that BO has connections in IL to the New Democrats Socialist Party. You hit the nail on the head! We feel out of place because we did not get the memo telling us the Old Dems don’t exist anymore. When George Soros, and four of his closest buds bought the Democratic Party a few years ago, they, in fact, must have teamed together with this New Socialist Democratic Party.
It really explains so much. if you get a chance to jump to American Thinker there are some fantastic articles on there. very informative, and well written. This one story explains how Barack may be The One Alinsky and The Socialists have been waiting for, and he has been groomed to do this since he was ten…maybe earlier. It is fascinating and terrifying.

OK my guys are on now…Hannity and Rove (how did that happen?)

cnn live has “liberal” blogger gina cooper on. Her answer to every question is ‘The fact is mccain is wrong.’ Some doppy blogger says ‘the facts is’ yet she presents no facts. For me I’d like her to presnet the actual facts she says she has. Why is cnn so useless?

  • AF catfish

McCain said “Obama is so eloquent, that you have to carefully go back and examine his words” or something. It was very effective and Mac said it a few times.

As in wake up! Read the transcript cuz O is pulling one over on you.

  • Brendy

kristen D – yep! Obama’s buddies – along with shady crooks/terrorists and racists, are the SUPER rich, elitists; he has NO ‘normal’ or ‘average’ friends and therefore has NO idea how the average American lives/feels or believes.

  • AnninCA

He’s been obnoxious to his opponents in every single debate I’ve ever watched.

    Without fail, his arrogance emerges.

  • 30yrdem-not any more

Yid with lid has something to say.

Obama’s Foreign Policy Guy Dick Lugar Is Anti-Israel

In the debate tonight Obama just said that he gets his foreign policy advice from Dick Luger. Obama keeps saying that he is a friend of Israel. But Dick Lugar is not a friend of Israel. In fact that he is one of the MOST ANTI-ISRAEL Senators in the Senate

When, on May 22, 1998, the Senate, by a vote of 90 to 4, passed the Iran Missile Proliferation Sanctions Act, imposing sanctions on foreigners who help Iran’s missile program, Mr. Lugar fetched up among the four senators who voted against the measure.

On July 24, 2001, the Senate voted 96 to 2 to renew the Iran-Libya Sanctions Act to help deny Iran and Libya money that they would spend on supporting terrorism or acquiring weapons of mass destruction. The only two senators who opposed the measure were Obama’s buddies Lugar and Hagel.

On April 6, 2001, 87 members of the Senate sent President Bush a letter saying Yasser Arafat should not be invited to meet with high-level officials in Washington until he renounced terrorism against Israel. Lugar declined to sign the letter.

On April 18, 2002, when the Senate, by 88 to 10, voted to ban the import to America of Iraqi oil until Iraq stopped compensating the families of Palestinian Arab suicide bombers, Messrs. Lugar and Hagel were among the handful who voted to bring in the oil.

In a July 10, 2003, editorial headlined “Ayatollah Lugar,” have already reported on how Mr. Lugar watered down the Iran Democracy Act that was introduced by Senators Brownback, Schumer, Kyl, Inouye, and others.

  • johnqpublic

I was very tired of looking at Obama and his hands distracted from what he was saying

  • Nicole

It almost squeaked by, but did anyone catch when Obama wanted McCain to be on the hook for the guy at the rally, but then he soundly objected when McCain mentioned he should apologize for the “Palin is a _____”. You could hear him go “NO!” BARRY DOESN”T WANT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING! EVER! He just wants to go around yelling at and blaming everyone else. It’s never his fault, right? Fucking tool.

  • Mike

I thought a very telling comment was when Bob said that the choice of a running mate gives us the best insight into the kind of consideration each candidate will give to selecting people for their cabinets.

The fact that McCain picked Palin is frightening based on her lack of knowledge, and the fact that “she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know.”
It shows extremely poor judgementon McCain’s part. Unfortunately, McCain has made alot of bad decisions in his life and career.

McCain – Palin will lose this election.

  • athena

Aw yes, the eloquence of Senator Obama’s words.

  • TeakWoodKite

John I cought that comment and I was thinking why was he defending “labor leaders” in Columbia.

I wish harm to no person, but in the political sense many of these individuals are VERY left of center who would self identify with Chavez, while Ayers gives a speech in Venezuala.

To see only TWO degrees of seperation from Chavez Ayers Obama, is an issue that is ignored. Frakin beee czarrrr.

  • catherine

Did you not read his talking points to the media that were “accidentally” leaked?

The media does not decide this election unless we let them. No matter how many times one of those Obama whores say it’s over GO AND VOTE ON NOV 4TH!

It’s not over until all REAL votes are counted, not stupid little polls.

  • AnninCA

What’s interesting/disturbing is Obama is so full of beans.

Investment in education will save us?

    Oh please!

At this point in our economy, I’d like to see someone out there be able to handle a retail job without blowing it, nevermind science and technology.

    It’s just such drivel.

  • latina

Maybe i am wrong but I’m thinking they (Fox) analysts may be using “reverse psychology” to make all of the conservatives move their butts and vote for Mc Palin. Remember the Fox audience is mostly conservative republican, and there has been much resistance on the conservative Repub groups
