New SNL Thread

Here is Sarah Palin’s appearance on the Weekend Update segment of SNL. Looking good.

  • Rah-Rah

I saw the entire thing. I don’t agree with Sarah Palin on many, if any, issues, but she showed enormous courage in going on the show – and a sense of humor, to boot. For that, I support her, and I am a fan.

True feminists support women of all thought – we don’t have to agree with one another on every issue. HEAR THAT, MY FELLOW DEMOCRATIC SISTERS? Get over your nasty, tee-shirt (Palin is a C_ _ _) wearing selves and grow the *F* up.

Truthfully, I am embarrassed and outraged at my own Democratic Party.

This November: McCain-Palin get my vote.

Because Obama was a Kenyan citizen until he was 21, did he register at Occidental College and Columbia University as a Kenyan or British Subject?

It would have been his right to do this, as he inherited this citizenship from his father, and it would have been to his advantage because the applicant pool from Kenya would not have had as many people with his elite prep school education.

It would have been a smart move on his part at the time and there’s nothing inherently wrong about it.

The US applicant pool is much more competitive for these elite colleges.

Has anyone discussed this thoroughly? I know the college records are all locked up…but wouldn’t Americans want to know if he applied to the schools and registered under his foreign citizenship?

What’s wrong with this is his secrecy and covering up his true history. His educated, elite followers would no doubt understand and approve of his applying and registering for college as a Kenyan citizen, while others would wonder why he felt he had to keep it a secret and go to great lengths to cover it up.

      • V

        Uhhhhhh, yeah.

Look, Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His birth certificate is on file there. It has been posted on his website and elsewhere. The State of Hawaii has issued a statement affirming that he was in fact born in Hawaii and is an American citizen.

This won’t make any difference to you, will it?

        • Tyrione

Statements are invalid, in a court of law. Obama is required to surrender a legitimate copy of his birth certificate. If Hawaii has them they would have no problem releasing one for the courts.

          Statements are meaningless.

As I understand it, true feminists don’t support Palin because they don’t believe rape victims should have to carry the baby to term, and should be offered to have a rape analysis done at the taxpayers costs (since taxes are what we pay for a civilized society, and if you were raped then society owes you one). Additionally, well… she’s an idiot. So there’s that.

    • http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com FloridaEx-Dem

It is a show of character to allow oneself to be in a position such as this. She can laugh at herself and parody herself. It will just endear her to more voters who might’ve been on the fence.

The One would never allow himself to be in such a position. HE’S the only one allowed to make lame jokes about himself – and he only does that when forced to.

I don’t agree with Palin on my issues either, but one never agrees with any candidate on all issues. In this election, I have to vote for experience, dedication and work history and as it happens, McCain / Palin have that over The Messiah.

That’s right. This ex Dem left her party out of disgust and will probably never return. Sarah got my vote because she’s real and says it like it is.

      McCain/Palin 08!

      • tek

I wish we could get a new party before the midterm elections.

    • trixta

Absolutely! The Pod feminists are supporting the Bros b/4 Hos Party, and I do not want any part of it.

A vote for the McSarah ticket is a vote for Party reform on both sides of the isle!

  • masslib

Larry, what do you make of this terrorism briefing? Is this just typical stuff because they have a habit of testing new presidents?

    • workingclass artist

Try this masslib…Democratic party war room video..
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4mKWceq0vY

      • masslib

How is that relevant to my question? I am talking about this morning’s terrorism briefing.

        • athena

Do tell more….I missed that because I slept in and “ignored” all the Sunday morning news.

  • Dawnelle

YAY YIPPPEEEE I’m so glad you posted this!!!

    Sarah ROCKS!!

  • workingclass artist

PALIN ROCKS! AND YOU DO TOO LARRY…THANKS FOR POSTING THE VIDEO

  • DAB

Very Cute! Palin was great and showed her “cool” side but I feel that SNL really could have given her a larger part in her two skkit appearances. Of course they didn’t offer her any advance clue on what she would be doing, so I guess it was enough. Still if you remember McCain’s appearance there a while back, he was given a lot of on-stage time and was, as usual, hilarious. Hillary’s last-minute appearance was pitch-perfect but Obama’s last visit fell totally flat. I also kind of get the feeling that the crew felt award by having to face the flesh-and-blood Sarah — as well they should have.

For whatever it is worth, new Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogy Poll shows a tightening race (Obama 47.8%, McCain 45.1%) with plenty of undecideds. Of course others do not show the same trend so we shall see.

    • Andy

We need to keep an eye on the state by state polls. These are the ones to watch with 2 weeks+ to election day. State pools reach a few days later to the national trends so this next week will be important.
The McC/P. ticket needs to pick it up in the states.

      • Andy

meant: State polls (not pools) above

    • pm317

For her to have done more, she would have had to rehearse and prepare more and she may not have had time for that, what will all the campaigning going on now.

    • tek

I believe this race is much closer than the media want to admit.

  • Max

I give her lots of credit, a good sport. She showed great confidence. This appearance on SNL will resonate with the average American in a positive way.

  • http://IthinkIfeel... Pat Racimora

I’m slapping my knees here! That really was funny.

  • trails

Thank you, Larry. I was able to play the video here. I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise. And yes, Palin rocks.

I agree. It took courage for her to step onto that PARTICULAR stage.

  • Andy

Hats off to Palin for doing this. What a rythm !! Looking good indeed LJ.

Amy P. is incredible raping. She should get an Emmy of something.

    • workingclass artist

      Dude…rappin…mkay…lol

      • Dawnelle

LOL yea I was like HUHHHHHHH

lol and she’s (amy) also MUI preggers!! She should feel even more kinship with Sarah.

  • ford

It is the up front courage and sense of trust in the people of the USA that Palin extols.

She is media savvy, and has an important message to her fellow Americans…we don’t have to be part of the political elite to have a voice in the USA.

We are moving forward with her nomination to the VP slot.

    • DAB

I thought that her former experience as a news anchor shown through. Sorry that HuffPo didn’t like it, but did you really expect another conclusion???

    • Deep Truths

I would have LOVED to see Sarah do the rapping on this song. But maybe after she’s VP.

      Sarah Palin: Profile in Courage
Colin Powell: Profile of a Cowardly Liar

      I support that message.

    • Newly Independent

      I agree!

Sarah Palin has become a true damn profile in courage!

    • street_parade

I gave up on Colin Powell in February 2003 when he went to the UN and LIED to us and the world. He used up all of his credibility back then. The fact that he would support Obama is no surprise, he’s an opportunist looking for a job.

      Colin Powell:
      Supported GW Bush
Lied us into the Iraq War
      Supports BH Obama

      No surprise there.

      • Objective analysis

Couldn’t agree with you more. Did you guys here his press conference on CNN? What kind of crap is he talking about that people are saying Obama is a muslim?

If he is not, why bring it up. Well, I guess he is. Thanks Collin Powell, the worst excuse of Secy of State we had to put us into the war in Iraq on a lie. Wouldn’t shock me that Obama paid you off with his $150 Million in foreign money.

        PUMA 2008!

  • AnninCA

Very cute! There’s a ridiculous article on HuffPo that really trashed her “performance.” After seeing it, I couldn’t believe the article.

I guess the writer couldn’t stand it that she’s obviously a good sport.

    • typewriterstreaming

Huff Post is Barfy’s rag – filled with outrageous lies. Lies period.

      • AnninCA

It was a blog story on RCP today, which is why I was curious. I’d seen the bit and thought Sarah did fine.

So I couldn’t imagine what they managed to find to criticize.

The interview with joe the plumber is on there, too.

It’s actually very upsetting to watch. He can’t work now because of the left attack dogs.

Also, I learned that he isn’t required to have a license to do the type of work he’s doing on residential houses.

Anyway, he’s really very upset by the attacks on him.

      • lark

What’s prevalent is lying. That’s why Oblahblah is adored. His is a pathological liar. So he is a most admired leader. But make no mistake, our reputation worldwide will be restored.

        Yeah right.

    • Brendy

Can you spell J E A L O U S??? HuffPo and other hate-filled sites simply can’t stand Sarah because they are JEALOUS of her; she’s an everyday American woman, who shoots, hunts, flies airplanes (has her pilot’s license), drives snowmachines, has babies (and CHOOSES TO KEEP THEM), has EXCUTIVE experience as a governor and mayor, is extremely likeable, is smart, pretty, funny and is NOW a VP contender. Those hate-filled sites ask – how can such a ‘good, courageous, moral, smart, pretty, pro-life everyday American woman get THAT far’?

      JEALOUSY – I think it’s sooooooooo funny!

      • Athena The Warrior

You betcha! The so called progressive women are jealous of her that she’s accomplished so much and the weenie bot so-called progressive males are intimidated by her.

  • witness08

Did you see the Obama ad that NBC ran during the show?

    • typewriterstreaming

Yes. Hopefully everyone else was in the kitchen.

      • Brendy

LOL! Yeah, commercial time – everybody run to the bathroom or kitchen during the break.

  • SnarlingCur

Did anyone else notice cast member Casey Wilson run up and hug Sarah during the closing? It seemed to me, that she was really excited to be that close to her.

    • typewriterstreaming

Nice. Thanks, I missed that. I’m glad someone was nice to her.

    • athena

Yes I did see that. I also saw Fey trying to hide behind Brolin. Loved Palins boots! My husband noticed her boots too….

      • http://www.cafepress.com/gigglechick gigglechick

Fey went over to Palin… she went to greet her and the show cut off

      • Brendy

Rats! I turned the tv off after it was over; I didn’t realize they still stood around after the show. I didn’t get to see Sarah’s boots or any of that other stuff. I wonder how many of Sarah’s kids’ friends thinks she’s cool after watching that show?

    • Tyrione

I saw that and she indeed was thrilled to meet her. It was nice to see a non-Obamamite working on SNL.

    • Anie

Watching Palin look over at Tina Fey who looked over and smiled, started to go over but checked herself, I think that Casey Wilson was making sure Palin wasn’t totally avoided by the cast, which she was, otherwise. Very awkward of them. I think they were wary of seeming to give ‘approval’ (considering so many Obama supporters were railing against SNL on Huffington Post afterward for allowing her time.

That Weekend skit was a riot.

  • notrees

Other than under the status of an informant or snitch or stoolie, or whatever, would Obama with his history of past associates be allowed to work for the CIA or the FBI? Could he legally be allowed to have Top Secret clearance?

    • typewriterstreaming

Obama is going to make his own laws. he doesn’t follow the law now, he definitely won’t follow them when he’s POTUS

      • Tyrione

The Executive Branch doesn’t make laws. That’s the job of Congress. The same was true for GW Bush. The Congress wrote Laws giving him unprecedented authority.

        • http://Q Diana L. C.

Exactly my major worry. All the REAL Dems thinking that Obama in the White House will reverse the major assault on checks and balances that were set in motion under “W.” What “W” did for the Dems is set things up–probably not thinking Dems–to make this the perfect time for a socialist, Marxist, elite member of the “intelligentsia/vanguard” to come to power.

I will not call him Comrade.

          • http://Q Diana L. C.

I wrote “REAL Dems” facetiously, by the way. Their mindless, lazy democrats who just trust the Party.

        • typewriterstreaming

          You haven’t met “The One”.

    • trixta

Think of this—perhaps he was manufactured and groomed by certain elements in the intelligence community who are cozy with Wall Street. After all, there have always been invisible internecine struggles in such a “community” (i.e. a la THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR).

Does MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE or BOYS FROM BRAZIL ring a bell?

      I’m just saying . . . .

  • http://deleted McCainPalinforUS

How can you not like this woman??? Sarah’s GREAT.

Agree with above poster about Dem women. I’m a lifelong Dem asking all to come out of the tiny Roe box the Party has put you in and throw your support to Sarah. Don’t be held hostage by a non-issue. Roe’s not going anywhere.

    • Undercover Black

How can you not like this woman???

Ask Peggy Noonan, David Brooks, Kathleen Parker and other thoughtful conservatives.

      • Brendy

Just other women being jealous of another women – it doesn’t matter if a woman is conservative or liberal, jealousy runs DEEP and HARD.

    Open Letter to Tina Fey

Tina, your insecurities are showing. Just like you hinted on Letterman, there was no side-by-side screen shot of you next to Governor Sarah Palin. You don’t have to worry over your beauty being unfairly compared to hers. Your new found insecurity is understandable. It has been a rough year for women.
Stronger women than you have crumbled under the constant barrage of misogyny. It’s tough to feel secure as a woman, have positive self-esteem when we are called bitches, castrators, and ignorant c*nts. It’s hard to feel confidence when we see other women abandon each other. Even worst, actually pick up a stone and join the mob. It rocks your self-esteem doesn’t it? It’s hard to be secure in your own physicality after watching the Governor’s inherent value reduced only to her sex appeal and beauty. Her intelligence and contributions casted aside and mocked.

I understand Tina. But do you understand? You reap what you sow.

    • typewriterstreaming

      Excellent post Tuppence. Excellent.

      • Tuppence 411

Thanks. And I must give a shout out to Amy. She was amazingly secure in herself last night. Her wit, her intelligence, her contributions, her security in her own body image and its inherent beauty. Powerfully secure woman! Empowering to watch. Stark constrast to Tina’s woefully naked insecurities.

    • oowawa

Tuppence, excellent post. Sarah is fearless. She has my vote.

    • Sally

      Beautifully said….

Nice work from Sarah Palin; she has a career outside of politics awaiting her if she chooses. Loved the moose touch.

In other news, you may remember that before Larry went crazy, he made his bones here on the ‘net championing the defense of Valerie Plame.

So I thought you might be interested to know that The Decemberists have just released their song immortalizating the plucky spy, titled “Valerie Plame”.

I heard it on the radio yesterday, and can’t get it out of my head.

    Oh Valerie Plame
If that really is your name…

  • Sane Voter

Agree that Palin should have been given more to do on the show. Good dancing!

  • DAB

Off Topic but I just visited the Taylor Marsh site which I have not gone to in a very long time. I was surprised to see that heromment section has become anemic == most of the posts receive less than 100 responses and some receive less than 50.

Much different than what it was in her heyday when it was Clinton v. Obama.

Worried about Joe the Plumbers Safety – KOS call to arms.

This is from the blog site on RCP – today that filth Daily Kos called Joe the Plumber, “the racist plumber” and published his home address.
That filth Markos goes on in his post to say “So to my fellow movement progressives, embrace that killer instinct and let’s finish the job. We’ve got conservatives demoralized and on the run. They are retrenching around their most important voices. So let’s pick off those they’ve left exposed and go after their best defended leaders as well.”

I really think KOS should be called out for publishing Joe’s address and then “embrace the killer instinct.” Can you imagine if our team did this?????

I am worried about Joe and his son’s safety.

I can’t stand Kos and the reason I post this is to say, we refuse to give in. he can dream on. We may get angry with the injustices being inflicted, but we are far from “demoralized”.

uhbama does it again..smears the clintons in direct conflict with REALITY FUCKING MUPPITY!

Jamal spoke of this, Sean Wilentz spoke of it. If Obama didn’t want to be compared to Jesse Jackson, maybe he shouldn’t have put R&B in his SC advertisements, shouldn’t have sent black-only emissaries to the Black SC community, and should have put Wright, who was doing the rounds, on pause. The message in South Carolina put out by Obama’s campaign, whether the media wanted to ignore it or not, was “Vote for me I am Black.” To then come back and smash Bill Clinton for mentioning Jesse Jackson, that’s audacity; Axelrod made this clear through his surrogates, while he had Obama say that what the Clintons’ said was “unfortunate.”

Here’s uhbama during a debate admitting and saying he “regrets it”

I truly wish that they would have given Sarah more of a role. She’s great in front of the camera and I would have loved to have seen more of her.
Bravo for being in the Lion’s Den Sarah !!!

McCain on his choice of Palin (10/19/08):

“As a cold political calculation, I could not be more pleased,” McCain said, calling Palin “a direct counterpoint to the liberal feminist agenda for America” and asserting “she’s the best thing that could have happened to my campaign and to America.”

So, just so we’re clear: If you call yourself a feminist and/or you supported Hillary Clinton, and you are now supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are an utter fool.

no critical thinking. a mindless obamabot.

      • V

Benny has only this to say: no critical thinking. a mindless obamabot.

Perhaps it’s time to apprise you all of the fact that the kneejerk rejoinder “mindless obamabot” is a ironic source of some amusement to those of us who dissent.

You see, in mindlessly parroting this unoriginal and oft-repeated appellation which you once saw written somewhere else, you are exhibiting nothing so much as purely robotic behavior.

Rush Limbaugh fans, called “dittoheads” for this reason– and proud of it, man– don’t get it either.

Too bad for them, and you.

        • destardi

Oh, you mean like “bushbot” the prog-blogs have been using to point out the 30% always pro-bush in polls?

SOrt of like the 30% pattern now displaying in pro-obama polls, regardless?

Get over it…check out late 1800′s political cartoons, and tell them the same thing since the practice has been in place for aloooong time.

          FYI, obamabot=bushbot

          No difference.

          • V

Get over it…check out late 1800’s political cartoons, and tell them the same thing since the practice has been in place for aloooong time.

Cartoonists in general are lazy, as we all know. If I look in on the doings of Cathy, I have little doubt that she will be modeling a bathing suit in front of a mirror and saying “ack!” for the 5 or 6 hundredth time.

Political cartoonists have a similar dilemma, made more difficult by the presence of guys like Obama and Biden, who simply aren’t much good as grist for the mill– they’re not silly enough. Well, that’s too bad, but they do have the madcap antics of McCain and Palin, and we give them a bit of “poetic license” as we do late night television show comedians. Nobody should take this too seriously.

Which brings me to my point: you are not cartooning and neither am I. If you have a problem with the idea of Obama as President, please put on your thinking cap, and your serious expression, and use your words to describe it.

Talk to me about Obama, please: not Wright, not Rezco, not Ayers, not Dohrn, not ACORN.

            Why is this so difficult?

Incidentally, the word robot was coined in the twenties by playwright Karel Cepek, and therefore could not have been found in a political cartoon in the 1800s.

    • WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName

It is you who are the fool…we not voting for obama on Nov. 4th so get over it.

the “liberal feminist agenda” is to attack a woman with a “retarded baby” and accuse her of not taking care of her family…That’s REALLY feminist huh?

I especially like the very feminist shirts “sarah palin is a cunt” proudly warn by “liberals.”

uhbamacrats have hijacked my dem party, and I’m NOT GIVING UP YET!!!!

      • AnninCA

Frankly, my son said the same. It’ the new Mommy and me generation, I think.

(Drives me nuts….but they are entitled to their opinion.)

      • barack h. obama

yes, ALL liberals are wearing the shirt that some kids made, just like all McCain supporters are making racist food stamp bills with obama eating watermelon on them. do you see your flawed logic?

if your definition of “liberal feminist agenda” (c___t shirts and “retarded baby” comments) is the same as McCain’s, then he is lamer than I thought.

        • destardi

I see that McCain has PERSONALLY denounced and apologized for out of line comments by people “not representing his campaign”.

Uhbama has his campaign issue statements, NEVER personally taking responsibility.

See: uhbama’s racebaiting in my post above..you can’t deny public records.

Did he take responsibility for those things? Guess it’s not necessary when the MSM is not reporting bullshit comments like Sen. Bill Nelson’s.

Barack, go fuck yourself. You’re seriously miscalculating the number of Hillary supporters you’ve demonized and said “don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

You don’t reconstitute the base of the democratic party overnight, welcoming the arrogant latte sippers, and dismiss the blue collar i.e. bitter base overnight.

          Get ready.

          • barack h. obama

life would be really inefficient if we had to take responsibility of other peoples actions all the time. oh, wait, $700 billion! don’t you think it’s about time to blame people for their own actions? of course you don’t.

(ps, you misused your quotes (or did you mean to do that?); “not representing his campaign” would mean that the people WERE representing his campaign)

            i’m ready.

            • destardi

              you and ACORN?

            • destardi

              Are you an idiot?

McCain said this during the debate..didn’t you pay attention?

He pointed out he denounced comments by people “not representing his campaign”.

That’s exactly what I meant; I know how to use quotes.

Are you pulling the “low information voters” when you’re not aware of the obvious parallel of uhbama to bush?

              Note: uhbamabots=bushbots

Incidentally, tolerance of dissent, and the voice of same, is one of the “democratic values” that Obama detractors claim to believe strongly in, and ironically claim that Obama supporters do not.

Barky Oblahblah’s agenda for 21st century feminism is to classify women as ignorant c*nts and to get brainwashed women to be his accomplices. I say NO DEAL

    • lisa in va

No. “liberal feminist agenda”. There is a difference between a Liberal feminist and a true feminist. Liberal feminists think they are empowered because they have “sexual freedom”. However what this so called freedom has done is enslave us to the desires of men and in essense made us a receptical for your wants, needs and bodily by-products. A REAL FEMINIST doesn’t give a flying fig what you think she can or cannot do.

      I’m a feminist. But not a pseudo-feminist.

Sarah Palin is the real thing. Period. And you, nor any other man, will ever be able to tell her what to do or to make her feel insecure about who she is.

Makes you feel pretty impotent, doesn’t it? Well, get used to it.

      • barack h. obama

“Liberal feminists think they are empowered because they have “sexual freedom””

this has to be the most creative definition of Liberal feminists since, what, 1968?!

Well you are that lazy, so I’ll rewrite it here:

Perhaps it’s time to apprise you all of the fact that the kneejerk rejoinder “mindless obamabot” is an ironic source of some amusement to those of us who dissent.

You see, in mindlessly parroting this unoriginal and oft-repeated appellation which you once saw written somewhere else, you are exhibiting nothing so much as purely robotic behavior.

Nice point, lisa. I’m a feminist (radical lefty lesbian feminist, to be exact), but I sure ain’t no liberal feminist with their denial of continued gender discrimination, etc., and their woman-hating politics. Palin is more of a feminist than they are, plenty enough for me!

        • destardi

You’re an idiot..and you don’t even know it.

Here, let me clue you in:

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_feminism

Notice the criticism at the bottom of the page?

Liberal feminism doesn’t try to change the UNDERLYING STRUCTURE of a patriarchal institution. Again, they believe they can change by simply demanding their equality.

I guess that’s why uhbama pays his female staff less than the male staff, and McCain pays his more.

          • barack h. obama

that’s what you got out of those two paragraphs? reading comprehension at its greatest. bravo.

            • destardi

              Gee, I dunno…I thought that’s what:

“According to liberal feminists, all women are capable of asserting their ability to achieve equality, therefore it is possible for change to happen without altering the structure of society”

              and

              Critics:
“Critics of liberal feminism argue that its individualist assumptions make it difficult to see the ways in which they argue that underlying social structures and values disadvantage women. They argue that even if women are no longer dependent upon individual men, they are still dependent upon a patriarchal state. These critics believe that institutional changes like the introduction of women’s suffrage are insufficient to emancipate women.[4]

Other critics such as black feminists and postcolonial feminists assert that mainstream liberal feminism reflects only the values of middle-class white women and has largely ignored women of different races, cultures or classes”

yea, I’d say that that’s pretty much what I get out of it.

It’s individually focused…me me me, and yea, “sexually free”…vs. changing the patriarchy prism society is focused through.

              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism#Post-structural_and_postmodern_feminism

I have to take the opposite tack on this and all the other political appearances on entertainment shows. One of the problems we have in this country is an over indulgence in puffed-up entertainment celebrities. McCain going on Letterman and Palin doing SNL are just the latest examples of giving entertainment status in area where they deserve and should get none.

If politics is serious business, then the giggles should be left at the door. Leno, Letterman, etc. already get enough from us without giving them additional influence in the political arena. They have not earned it.

I realize I’m probably the only person on the planet who feels this way but there you have it.

    • AnninCA

No, I hear you. It has been an interesting year in that regard.

I sort of like it. It lightens the atmosphere, which I think is good for the country.

At times, this has gotten way too serious.

To me? Any administration can accomplish just a few key things. That’s it. A lot is beyond their control.

So it’s gotten to be overblown. And the fact is that there is obviously no single mandate, and it won’t matter who wins. That’ll be the case.

So it’s not nearly as significant as people think.

Real progress is made by simple steps of compromise, usually. We find out the sky doesn’t fall in if we truly embrace an idea such as “OK to offer adoption counseling as an alternative to abortion counseling.” What a concept. Let the girl decide.

I think the wisest choices are nearly always to let people decide for themselves, regardless of the issues.

Government needs to handle the meta-structural issues, such as security, energy, etc.

Get out of people’s lives on the other stuff. Generational change takes care of 99% of all social and cultural issues.

But then, I’m convinced we’re not a racist society. We ARE very intolerant of the solutions of the poor. We ARE very afraid of gangs, drugs, etc. But I don’t think we care if those thugs are green or purple. We don’t like the violence, the threat to values, and the inability to control them.

It’s got far less to do with race than with the sheer poverty addressing the country.

What’s the solution? Heaven only knows. I do know the problem is so huge it will not be worked out in my lifetime. I also know that headstart can’t fix it.

I personally want to see a massive drug rehabilitation program in our country. That’s my own personal liberal dream. I want to see a way out offered.

    • street_parade

I agree with you too. But it goes back a long way, Nixon appeared on Laugh-In, for instance. Although I think he was already President. Clinton was on talk shows playing a saxophone when he was running. I guess it’s supposed to humanize them or something.

I guess it’s okay, but I sure couldn’t see Margaret Thatcher doing it.

    • Diana L. C.

No, I agree actually. It’s hard to change things back to the way they were in the past–where politics and entertainment didn’t get into bed, so to speak, with each other.

It’s because of the great changes in the media that have occurred since I was a young girl, propped up on the bumper of my dad’s ’53 Chevy, listening to him talking politics with my uncles.

SNL’s ratings will tank without Palin

I refuse to watch SNL anymore. They were at one time clever and non-partisan by making light of both sides. Now they are just a sad, tired old show lacking any sort of vision and have become dogmatic. They should retire the show before it is ruined any further.

    • Anee

Thats right they had their best ratings in FOURTEEN years with Sarah’s appearance last night.

  • Illinois_gal

She looked like she was having a great time.

When I say Obama you say Ayers!

    Obama!

    Ayers!

I’m sure there’s a torrent file up on the net already or you can watch the whole episode on the NBC website?

The closing is so brief, you’d have to watch it a few times to see what’s going on.

The Yahoo! News headlines this morning read: Sarah Palin makes goofy appearance on SNL, can’t even giver her credit for poking fun at herself and being a good sport. I’m starting to hate the people who run this country.

Tina Fey should realize she needs Sarah Palin in order to be relevent for the next few years. Her 30 Rock show gets dismal ratings and will no doubt get canceled.
Amy Poehler has the guts to face the people she parodies. Tina wouldn’t even get next to Sarah. Afraid everyone would see Sarah looks better?

That’s what my Mom said… Palin is far prettier than Fey. And when you heard Paliin say her few lines on SNL, you realize Tina Fey doesn’t really sound like Palin at all. Palin looked vice presidential there at the podium with flags behind her for a brief few seconds there.

    October Suprise.

    1) There is no whitey tape
    2) No API interview tape
    3) No kenya BC

No, at this point, we could take the October surprise or leave it. We’re planning on the November 4 Surprise.

Larry, thanks for the link. I watched th show last night. I loved the use of “rap” (some might say it’s an AA genre) for Sarah’s defense. Genius! I loved the point against the MSM, again. I do have to give SNL cudos for their work this year in that regard.

I’m holding my breath, sending out lots of “good vibrations,” etc. Let’s have a wonderful November 4 Suprise!

Palin draws big ratings for ‘Saturday Night Live’

      By DAVID BAUDER

      AN EXCERPT:

NEW YORK – The entertainment summit of the season _ Sarah Palin and her impersonator, Tina Fey _ earned “Saturday Night Live” its best ratings in 14 years. But if you blinked, you might have missed it.

Fey was answering questions at a news conference, something Palin hasn’t done yet as the Republican vice presidential nominee, when Palin walked on the stage. Fey beat a hasty retreat in the opening segment, walking past the real Palin with a barely perceptible nod.

If anyone was hoping for a side-by-side photo of the identically dressed women, they were out of luck.

Palin’s guest shot, widely anticipated since Fey began imitating her a month ago, led “Saturday Night Live” to its highest mark in overnight Nielsen Media Research ratings since March 1994, when assaulted skater Nancy Kerrigan was guest host.

Although a complete audience estimate for the rest of the country won’t be available until later in the week, it is likely to be around 14 million.
