Both Candidates Briefed by White House But Cocky Obama Sees It as “A Smooth Transition”

This guy deserves to go down in flames by one state and one vote on November 4th just for spite.

White House staff have met with both presidential candidates and their senior staffs to brief them on possible terrorist threats and current National Security issues between election day and January. Vetting of potential presidential staff members has also become–for both campaigns.

So what gets pimped all over the place by the Obama campaign? Not a story that both candidates have been briefed. Nope. This:

Senior Aides To Barack Obama have been meeting George W. Bush’s staff to begin planning a smooth transfer of power.

No kidding. You can’t make this shit up. How’s that for cocky?

…………………………………

From my blog, “Uppity Woman.”

  • tek

BTW: OT, I got an e-mail from the Obama campaign yesterday saying CALL WOMEN IN SWING STATES! They must be worried he’s not going to get the white women vote (especially over 60).

    • notrees

Obama is the smooth but I would give odds that it will be anything but smooth if and after he wins.

      • Helena

Because Obama was a Kenyan citizen until he was 21, did he register at Occidental College and Columbia University as a Kenyan or British Subject?

It would have been his right to do this, as he inherited this citizenship from his father, and it would have been to his advantage because the applicant pool from Kenya would not have had as many people with his elite prep school education.

It would have been a smart move on his part at the time and there’s nothing inherently wrong about it.

The US applicant pool is much more competitive for these elite colleges.

Has anyone discussed this thoroughly? I know the college records are all locked up…but wouldn’t Americans want to know if he applied to the schools and registered under his foreign citizenship?

What’s wrong with this is his secrecy and covering up his true history. His educated, elite followers would no doubt understand and approve of his applying and registering for college as a Kenyan citizen, while others would wonder why he felt he had to keep it a secret and go to great lengths to cover it up.

Perish the thought. That’s unacceptable. Don’t even think such a thing. McCain is doing fine. He doesn’t need as long a “briefing” as Barry since he’s pretty much up to speed on national security. Barry though would need too much on the job training. Obvious that we can’t afford the risk.

    • Seattle Moss

The good news is the arrogance of the Obama crowd. They think this election is already over which will suppress their vote especially among new registrants and low information lazy voters.

McCain supporters are at a high level of anger and will get out the vote especially now that the truth of Obama’s socialism and mockery towards regular working people has been exposed.

      • Jules

The good news is the arrogance of the Obama crowd. They think this election is already over which will suppress their vote especially among new registrants and low information lazy voters.

It’s so funny that they are so arrogant about victory, all the while complaining about “racism” keeping them down.

    • notrees

I know for certain he will not get my wife’s vote. If he comes on the Channel we are watching she will turn to another channel or leave the room. And besides if she did vote for him or if I voted for him we would most likely get a divorce. Only joking. :) . maybe not. ;(

      • Carol

I do the same as your wife. I switch channels when Obama is on just like I do when Bush is on TV. I will not watch either of them and I definitely will not be voting for Obama. My husband is not voting for him either. We both are going for John McCain and Sarah Palin. My husband is in love with Sarah.

    • Dawnelle

and you’ve got women living to their mid 90′s EASY (look at Mack’s Mom) and MINE is mid 80′s and all her sisters and sis in laws are also still alive and vote!

from 50-100 covers a HELLUVA LOT OF WOMEN YA’LL

and MOST of us over 50 don’t usually discuss politics OR religion with friends (and for sure not strangers)

even though I have been lately cuz this is too important

LOTS OF WOMEN!! STILL LIVING!!! STILL VOTING!!!

and this year…………. NOT for Barry

      • wodiej

good point and I agree. Those older women will not vote for Obama or any Democrat traditionally. They just won’t.

    • beaujo

I coffee with two different groups of friends. Most of us are over 40. Out of twelve, 4 are voting for Obama, 7 are voting for McCain, one is still undecided. 10 of the 12 have college degrees, 4 have Master’s degrees. All but one of us are registered Democrats in the swing state of Colorado. Definitely not a scientific poll, but interesting. If this is any indication of the the women’s vote, my prediction is that this election is going to be a lot closer than the polls indicate.

    • Cher G

Just let the Obama campaign or that traitor senator McCaskill call my house in the swing state of MO; I am loaded for bear! Hillary was robbed.

      • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

At my Blog, we call McCaskill ROZ. As in ROZ from the old movie, 9 to 5. We envision her in that scene in the ladies room, hiding in the stall with her feet up on the toilet lid so nobody knows she’s in there taking notes.

        • American Woman

          That is sooo funny..

    • georgiapeach

Why don’t we all act like Obamabots and go volunteer? I think I might be able to work my way through a list. But I’m a little tied up right now calling people for John McCain, so I might not be able to get started until November 5th.

  • Khan Krum

Every time I hear about B. Hussein getting a security briefing it makes me nervous. This guy couldn’t get a security clearance if he tried.

I hope he loses in a landslide, just for spite.

    • lark

Like everything else in the hands of Obama, Security Clearance will not mean anymore what they have meant. Security Clearance reputation: ruined.

    • Newly Independent

Every time I hear about B. Hussein getting a security briefing it makes me nervous.

I’m wondering if the full-on horror of Obama getting into the White House is beginning to set in for Obama’s lukewarm supporters as Election Day gets near.

    • AMERICAN SAWBUCK

I wouldn’t care if McCain won by only one vote.

I’ll never recognize that fraud Obama as my president.

        Independent for McCain/Palin

        • Carol

I wouldn’t care if McCain won by only one vote.

Remember, our votes won’t really do it, it’s all in the Electoral College’s hands. That’s why there is so much angst over the big states like Florida, Ohio, PA, etc.

    • bethtopaz

I just got a job at a Senior Apartment Complex as a concierge and assistant to the Controller. Before they considered me as an employee I had to get a criminal background check, including fingerprints and a drug test.

Why should a nominne for the Presidency of the United States of America be required to do anything less?!

Maybe the wanted to discuss the smooth transition for Senator Obama back to the senate where he will now actually be expected to do the work of the people instead of just running for office and giving plagiarized speeches.

    • http://deleted OBSP

The Sun Times is reporting that BO wants a Black to be appointed to Senate his seat when he is elected POTUS. Isn’t that racist?

      • masslib

Jackson Jr gets his wish I guess. Emanuel under the bus.

      • Kal

Oh, no, not if it’s a person of color saying that. It’s just if anyone else were to say it.

Or is it that it’s ok if BO says it, but no one else can? I’m getting confused!

        • Steve_in_KC

Ayers isn’t black, though. Maybe Louis Farakhan? Or is he saving him for Secretary of State? /snark

          • Carol

Ayers will be appointed Sec. of Defense. Rev. Wright will be America’s Chaplain, Bernadette Dorn (SP) will be Sec. of State.

    • BernieO

I just hope whoever wins that they listened to the briefing and didn’t dismiss what they have been told the way the Bush crowd did. Remember how Clinton personally met with Bush to warn him about Bin Laden and Sandy Berger met with Condi to tell her to forget her other priorities, she would spend her time on terrorism? It was highly unusual for the top people to meet with the incoming administration. Bush responded by going against Clinton’s advice and we have all paid the price.

Since I have no clue what Obama really believes, I keep wondering if he is like Bush and will ignore good advice because he thinks he knows better than everyone else. The fact that he ignored the advice to put Hillary on the ticket and even now, with the disaster that is the Bush administration, he is not up by much when he should be up by double digits shows he really does have bad judgment (contrary to his claims). Had Obama put Hillary on the ticket he would be way up in the polls and a shoe-in.

  • Tuppence 411

I hope he wins the popular vote but loses the electoral college. Karma. It’s a bitch.

    • athena

NOPE he must lose both. Don’t want a revolt and that would be cause for them to cal their supporters to action.

      • barry bums a ciggie

wonder where that revolt was when Hillary won the popular vote…hmm

        • Carol

          We were being suppressed!

      • etc.

Right. Can’t give any reason for The New Democratic Party to cry foul…

Let’s make it a landslide so they will have to shut the F— up!

    • Troy

If he gets the popular vote and loses the electoral vote he will follow his cousin Odinga’s strategy….Incite violence, riots, mayhem, murder and maybe he will just become our first Prime Minister.

They are following the exact same playbook.

      LOCK and LOAD!!!

      • Northwest rain

He seems to be using the same strategy — and it’s been suggested that he WROTE his cousin’s play book.

Obama LOST the Primary — he lost the popular vote and he also lost the Electoral college vote (the winner take all scheme) — yet he declared himself a winner!!

Then there was NO roll call — which he probably would have lost — so he declared himself a winner AGAIN.

Now he is declaring himself the winner BEFORE election day.

There is a clear pattern here — and the aim may be to work up his followers — hoping that the real winner McCain will be forced to back down.

He’s a narcissistic, passive aggressive psychopathic liar.

Hopefully in this briefing he wasn’t given any critical information that he might pass on to some of his buddies.

He’s like bush neither know when to keep their mouth shut and not brag about the “secrets” they’ve been told.

      • etc.

Unfortunately for him, The United States is NOT Kenya.

I know an FBI agent and lots of law enforcement. The reasons are all the stuff we always talk about on this blog: past drug use & dealing drugs, questionable associatiations (known terrorists & criminals), 17 unpaid parking tickets from his time at Harvard (they were paid in 2007 by a campaign staffer), etc. Plus he’d have to pass a lie detector test. I have plenty of family members in law enforcement, and they ALL had to take lie detector tests and pass psychological screening exams before being hired. Pretty funny the POTUS doesn’t have to do any of this!

        • calli

Miss America, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are held to a higher standard than Obama!!Look at ayers, Rezko and his other associates!!I guess a persons morals don’t matter!!!

        • jbjd

We elect the POTUS. Ours is a civilian Commander in Chief. If we want to have him vetted, it is up to us to do the vetting.

          • Lindsy

It’s the job of the media to vet the candidate. Since they’ve done such a stellar job this year- something tells me we need to look into changing that.

One has to pass a harder background test to be a file clerk for the US government than they do to be POTUS.

        • Carol

questionable associatiations (known terrorists & criminals),

We all know he couldn’t pass that nor the lie detector testing

Lol, any bot thinking THAT is going to happen is delusional.

This country is more divided than ever.

The only redeeming thing about an Obama presidency is that it will likely only be a one termer.

      • jdona

Why should we get behind Obama is who an illigitimate candidate to begin with? Hillary Clinton won the popular vote and would have won the delegates if the primaries had been honest. I won’t pull behind Obama if he “wins” the election because I don’t accept that A. he is the legitimate Democratic nominee, and B. with all the Acorn voter fraud, I won’t believe for one single minute this election was honest and that he won fair and square. This man damn sure won’t be my president, and I damn sure won’t support him, and will do everything I can to support an impeachment at the very first opportunity to do so. And with Ayers, Acorn, Rezko, and all the foreign money contributions, there is a damn good chance we will have that opportunity.

      • Troy

One Termer?…He wouldn’t make it a full year in office before impeachment began.

        • Bellevue_NW_Voter The Renter

Unfortunately with the Dems in charge of Congress, that’ll never happen.

Remember that the Dems wouldn’t even go after Bush. They certainly wouldn’t go after Zero.

          • Brendy

I honestly believe that even if this country were to go into a depression and tens of millions of people lost their jobs and the stock markets ACTUALLY CRASHED rock bottom, they STILL wouldn’t impeach Obama. Once he gets in – it’s home free FOREVER. He’ Black remember – all accusations/critcisms about him AFTER he’s president will be construed as “RACIST”. We’re stuck.

I do not intend to insult honest, decent, fair, non-racist, moral Blacks – and there are MANY of them, but we can ALL see how Obama and especially his handlers are using the race card – it worked with Hillary; it’ll work with McCain and throughout Obama’s whole presidency. We are at HIS mercy. This is SCARY, people.

      • Liz B

Half of one term, at best…once the Press realizes nobody cares what obama has to say anymore(if elected0, and that those of us who never supported him aren’t buying their newspapers, magazines or watching their news shows or television sitcoms…then they will have to do what they have done to all Mega Superstars they helped create…they must tear them apart. They will dismantle him and rip him to shreds, we will be glad to see it so we will watch them and read them, hungry for the wolves attacking him, and he will eventually be exposed for all the fraud and illegal activities. The Senate and House will lose in 2010 their Democratic majority, in a large revolt against them, and the new GOP majority will start impeachment proceedings against him. Hold on to your hats people because it is gonna be one wild ride.

But all of Axelrod’s advertising and marketing techniques are working. People are buying this Obama image and illusion and Axelrod is an absolute master in creating and timing all of his marketing tricks. I had always thought that most Americans were intelligent enough to see through most of this, but it seems as though marketing Obama has been a huge success, since Americans are just happy and excited about buying and consuming the whole Obama “deal”.

I don’t know who thought pulling Powell out for an endorsement would cement the deal for Obama. I wonder how the Great One’s followers are taking this news since they crucified Hillary for her vote on the Iraq war. Powell’s testimony before the UN was ten times worse than Hillary’s vote. I think Powell decided to endorse Obama because his career is gone and this would help wipe prop up his image.

      Great endorsement with sound reasons:

A lifetime of sacrifice and service make John McCain best choice
      Sunday, October 19, 2008 3:39 AM

For president of the United States, The Dispatch endorses Republican Sen. John McCain, whose experience, service and sacrifice for his country make him more qualified to lead the nation.

McCain’s Democratic opponent, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, is a rousing motivational speaker, but his experience and achievements — eight years in the Illinois Legislature and less than four in the U.S. Senate — do not stand comparison with McCain’s.

A resume containing so little evidence of leadership and accomplishment leaves in question Obama’s ability to handle the most responsible and difficult job in the world, especially at a time when the nation faces a combination of problems so large and complex that they would challenge even the most seasoned leader.

Nor does it seem likely that a man who has traveled in the left lane of American politics for his entire adult life really is the bipartisan centrist that he claims to be. And with Democrats already in control of the U.S. House and Senate — and the possibility that they might gain a filibuster-proof majority in the next Senate — there would be little to check the inevitable excesses of one-party rule if a Democrat wins the White House.

This could have a profound effect on the U.S. Supreme Court. A divided Senate acts as a check on presidential nominations to the court by preventing the confirmation of justices with extreme views. But with a filibuster-proof Senate majority ready to do his bidding, Obama would have the unfettered ability to appoint justices likely to be judicial activists, eager to launch a new era of legislating from the bench. Such a Supreme Court could end up as a rubber stamp for, rather than a check on, the White House and Congress.

While neither party can make a credible claim to fiscal responsibility, the dangers of more deficit spending, a growing national debt and uncontrollable entitlement spending are likely greater with an Obama administration. Democrats have not controlled the White House and Congress simultaneously since 1994. A return to majority status is likely to unleash pent-up demand to enact a Democratic wish list of new and expensive social programs when the nation can’t afford the ones it has. Given his party-line voting record in the Senate, there is no indication that Obama is able or willing to stand against such an onslaught.

But many of the policy choices the nation will have to make in the next four years are monumental and should be the result of a bipartisan dialogue, not of unchecked one-party dictate.

Debate and political give and take ensure that decisions have been fully vetted, that all interests and concerns have been weighed and that the resulting decisions enjoy broad public support.

Unlike Obama, McCain has a record of bipartisanship: He was a member of the Gang of 14 Republican and Democratic senators who joined in 2005 to preserve the Senate filibuster rule. Note that this courageous act, which enraged the Republican Senate leadership, preserved the filibuster power for what was then the Democratic minority in the Senate. And that was not the only time that McCain has bucked his party.

At a time when the nation faces serious problems, including international economic turmoil, immigration, health care, war in Afghanistan, nation-building in Iraq and foreign-policy challenges from the Middle East, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela, the president should have an extensive resume and long experience in grappling with tough decisions. Few new presidents have faced an assignment as tough as the one facing the winner of the November election.

From 5 1/2 years as a POW in North Vietnam, where he endured torture, through 25 years in the U.S. House and Senate, McCain has demonstrated the grit, energy and determination that the present challenges demand.

The choice is between a candidate who has been tested to a degree experienced by few and a candidate who is untested. In Obama, Americans are presented with a question mark.

Among the top problems facing the United States is its dire fiscal situation. The nation has a $10 trillion debt and other unfunded obligations to entitlement programs that total $53 trillion. The federal deficit this year is nearly $458 billion and some project the 2009 deficit could hit $700 billion. Despite these staggering numbers, lawmakers and the president just approved a $700 billion Wall Street bailout that they don’t have the money to pay for. In short, the United States is dangerously overextended at a time when a worldwide recession threatens.

For years, The Dispatch has called on the president and Congress to deal with this massive, mounting debt which threatens the prosperity and quality of life of generations to come. But year after year, the nation’s leaders have kicked the problem down the road.

Seriously confronting this problem will require a president able to call on Americans to make sacrifices for the sake of their grandchildren.

The president will have to ask them to accept cuts in popular programs, tax increases and lowered expectations of what government can afford to do.

Because of the personal sacrifices that McCain has made for the nation, he has unmatched moral authority to call on Americans to take their medicine. If elected, that is precisely what he should do.

The Dispatch urges voters to elect John McCain as president.

    REMEMBER NEW HAMPSHIRE!

  • Anee

I heard about this morning and this is very interesting because, will Obama actually be able to pass a security clearance? What documents does he have to produce? Birth cert? Passport? His political donors from overseas? His associations, with known terrorists? Will this security clearance be completed by Nov. 4? Imagine the possible Obama blackmail situations he could put this country into because of his questionable connections and hidden background information.

BTW – Sarah Palin already holds the highest security clearance because she is gov. of Alaska and the military installations there.

    • oowawa

Anee asks: “will Obama actually be able to pass a security clearance?”

There is no way that The Precious would have been able to qualify for even a minimal confidential security clearance had he ever deigned to actually serve his country in the military. I had a top secret clearance in the USMC and they went back to my elementary school days and questioned my neighbors in order to clear me. I shudder to think that they are now briefing this former associate of domestic terrorists with sensitive information. Funny how he is getting such a total pass. Why?!?!?

      • Anee

You are right oowawa, I don’t believe he has been through the security clearance yet, he has not attained the highest level, and that is why the FBI is beginning their clearances now. Apparently there are rumors of a terrorist attack after the election similar to the ones after the British elections.

      • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

Yep. Me too. He will have to provide a BC..the whole nine yards. They research EVERYTHING! Sure wish I could be a fly on the wall for that conversation when he prints a copy of his BC ofF OF Daily Kos. I think this was the plan all along. No wonder the Dems are trying to do a mad rush to get EVERY down ticket dem elected. They probably know whats coming.

      • Khan Krum

Yep, close and continuing associations, especially with criminals and terrorists are disqualifying. He wouldn’t have a chance.

      • bethtopaz

My 22 year old son is an Intelligence Analyst for the Air Force and has top secret security clearance.

They scrutinized his life in the same way.

    • witness08

“For the first time in American history the FBI has begun vetting likely officials of the next administration before the election, to ensure they have security clearance to deal with crises on day one.”

What does this actually mean? Does this mean that BO will also be included in those who are vetted?

      • bemused

Maybe it’s a nice cover for the FBI to get up close and personal with some of O’s friends?

    • Elizabeth

A FOX anchor asked a very similar question about security clearance to a legal professor a while back and the professor answered that nothing that Obama had done from a legal perspective would disqualify him for security clearance.

      • oowawa

It’s not about what Obama has “done.” It’s about his associates and family connections. I knew a young man (19) in the Marines who was denied a security clearance because he had a distant relative with Mafia connections. Ayers is very problematic. Above all, what about Cousin Odinga? In my wildest dreams, I cannot imagine that Odinga would not disqualify Obama from any security clearance.

yeah, like our Democratic leadership or his supporters saying, “it’s not about race” “because he is an African American” all int he same breath. LOL

If we knew folks would be so illogical and ignorant with our countries future health and security, that they wanted to vote on symbolism, they should have shared that much sooner, we could have looked for their symbolism that had accomplishments and experience to fill that vessel so it wouldn’t be EMPTY.

      • Julia

Yes he’s doing it for misoginy!

    • alibe4Hillary

I have always viewed Colin Powell as the biggest POS of them all. He knew the eveidence for going to war were BS and he testified against his better judgement. He is a coward and a liar. He has never endorsed a Democrat before. I don’t imagine it is because Nobama is black, is it? Powell is a coward and I view his endorsement as the equivalent to getting Cheney’s. At least Cheney believed in what he did. Powell did Bush’s bidding because he was too cowardly to stand up like a man. Sort of what powell did in the Mai Lei incident.

      • NoBamaNoWay

yep; it’s pretty clear that powell was never anything but a yes-man. he obviously is not acting on principle with his endorsement of obama. it’s sad. oh well, there’s nothing left of his reputation, so i guess it doesn’t matter; maybe he’s bucking for a position in the obamessiah’s admin if he steals the election.

    • Kathleen Wynne

Powell is using all these bullshit reasons for endorsing BO because he wants to hide the fact that he’s doing it primarily because BO is black and doesn’t want to be viewed as “racist”.

I bet you won’t see BO and his minions denouncing Powell for his testimony before the UN asking them to support a war against Iraq, any more than you saw them denounce Biden for his vote for the war. No, that attack was for Hillary, alone!

They think the women and men who protested the tactics and behavior of the DNC, BO and his supporters, and the MSM are just going to go away quietly and allow him to steal this election! I can assure them that nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, I, along with millions of other Hillary supporters, are more angry now with the DNC and BO than we were when this who election charade began.

We have gotten a real glimpse as to who BO truly is and I don’t like what I see. Because of what I’ve learned about his little man, I will never vote for him because for me, to do so would be turning my back on democracy and everything this country is supposed to stand for.

For me, like McCain/Palin, it’s COUNTRY FIRST.

    • McHope

McCain has the endorsement of four former Secs of State, non of which lied directly to the American public about WMDs.

Obama dems will not be swayed by this, Republicans will not either. Anyone who is still undecided will see this for what it is.

    • McHope

    • AMERICAN SAWBUCK

I guess one would have to examine Powell’s reasoning ..I have and I have concluded he is a racist….There is no logical explanation for his endorsement..otherwise he would have come out to support Kerry 4 years ago and if Hillary had been the nominee against McCain he would have supported her also..(when pigs fly) so the only logical explaination is race…
But a rose by any other name….etc etc etc….

    • rickrickrick

I agree with you. Powell says Obama with no experience is ready but Palin is not. Powell has always admired Obama and he wanted to show him some BROTHERLY LOVE.

    • DS

I feel as if I’m living in Bizarro World as everyone trashes McCain for his “negative” advertising for mentioning Rezko, Ayers, Wright, etc., but no one think Obama’s snarky, derogatory, demeaning, snide, lying comments are negative.

To me, he’s been completely transparent all along. I’m amazed there’s anyone who can’t see right through his thin facade.

      • bethtopaz

I, too, feel like I’m living in the Twilight Zone.

  • caringnurse1

I just sent out youtubes of Obama campaigning for Odinga in 2006 using taxpayers money.. Odinga, the man who incited genocide , murdering, cutting off limbs, torching women and children in church… Odinga, the man for whom obama helped raise a million dollars. More about this in Corsis Swiftboat Ads coming out in a week or so..Corsi just got back from Kenya.. He has emails incriminating Obama..

    • EightBelles

Maybe we should blitz Colin Powell with e-mails asking how he feels about his endorsed candidate’s support of Odinga’s Kenyan campaign and the resulting massacre of innocent women and children when Odinga lost. We might ask Powell to explain to us exactly how he feels about BO’s associations with Ayers, Rezco & the remaining cast of criminals and criminal types in the Barack Obama Hall of Infamy. We could mention BO and his family sitting inside a racist, anti-Semitic Church for 20 years and then quiz Powell as to whether or not he endorses such a Church and its Black Liberation Theology or, more to the point, its “America’s chickens have come home to roost” mentality…

It’s a sad day for our country when a once respected Republican speaks out in support of possibly the worst and certainly the least qualified Presidential candidate to date who happens to have been rejected by millions (and still counting) from within his own party. Powell, like Gore and Edwards, should have kept his pie hole zipped. Are we PUMA bloggers the only sane voices left in American?

I tell you how secretive this race is -no one is putting signs outside. James Carvile knows alot more than what he is stating. He has been told to use the “fear factor”. Such as Bush used the “fear factor” with the security in 2004. But, homeland security works on people, not threats of violence. It divides the whites, and James Carvile is being an idiot to bring it up. The more they use this “riot” BS the more we are determine to undermine them. Yesterday, I was having a glass of wine sitting in my terrace, watching my neigbbors come in and out for the day. As they walked their dogs, they would say “nice sign”, and kept walking. My Mccain/Palin sign. Now…none of these people have signs because of the threats and the damages that they assume they might get…so instead…they tell you in their own way…who they are voting for…as “nice sign” gesture from them.

    • bethtopaz

      Cool!

I was at the GOP Headquarters last night in Vacaville, California and some woman walked in with a Fed Ex Package and asked if she could mail it from there. I guess it used to be a Mailbox place.

My friend asked her if she was a Democrat and wanted to come in and talk about Obama.

She said, while rushing away (to mail her package, I presume) “Yes. I’m a Democrat, and I can tell you all about Obama and … the Republicans.”

I gathered, from the way she said it, that she was not fond of Obama (or the GOP).

She smiled when she said it, but she definitely wasn’t an Obot or we would have heard her sing his praises.

  • John Smith

You all have to remember that BO out spent Hillary in PA and OH 4 to 1 and he still lost both states and this was among democrats and with ACORN and the MSM helping him. He actually lost the primaries to Hillary. Do you really think that he can win the election. The stuff that we are seeing on the MSM is just wishful thinking. Actually the polls are that as well.

I know many of you worry about this election but you are forgetting the silent majority. The people who are not running around screaming but will go out and vote their conscious. Do you rally think the people will trust this guy with the country. They did not even trust Kerry and he actually had a few accomplishments.

    • oowawa

John Smith says “I know many of you worry about this election but you are forgetting the silent majority.”

Unfortunately, The Precious has got his minions (Acorn) running around enlisting the “Silent Majority” to vote. (The “Silent Majority” is a Chinese phrase referring to the dead).

      • Steve_in_KC

There is a lot of truth to the Silent Majority concept. I worked in radio broadcasting for 12 years, and I learned very quickly that “normal” people would never THINK of calling a radio station for any reason. It’s the kooks in the minority that call time and time again. And you quickly learn that their opinions do NOT speak for the majority.

It’s the same thing in play on the Internet. Go to any blog, and the contributors number dozens at best, in most cases. If you apply a little “forensic linguistics” to reading the responses to network news postings or YouTube videos, you kind of get a sense that it’s the same damn people posting over and over, or people using the same talking points. Either way, they are certainly NOT speaking for the Silent Majority.

    • Carol

You all have to remember that BO out spent Hillary in PA and OH 4 to 1

I thought our Nation was in an economic crisis and heading (or all ready there)into a recession, people losing their jobs, losing their homes, barely having enough money for gas and food, worrying about paying their winter’s heating bills and yet here is this one man collecting all this money. I guess his contributors aren’t in the middle class, they can afford to send him millions of dollars.

  • rw

We all, and Obama et al, know that talking like a winner does not a winner make. Otherwise, why all the fraud during the primaries and why all the attempted fraud now for the general. Difference now is they are up against the Republicans not a traitorous bunch of Democrats

The Obama camp tactics have now encountered the curve of diminishing return: their sexism, misogyny, race baiting, racism, intimidation, voter fraud, ageism, obscene campaign funding has negative effect on voters.

Obama is certainly cocky, but he seems to be on the way to successfully buying this election with his all his money and propaganda tactics (like his 30 minute “infomercial”). It looks as though the majority of Americans are just lapping it all up (Gallup has him up by 10 today) – to me, it just seems like such an illusion with all of Obama’s supposed “supple intelligence” being used to deceive and manipulate. Obama is greedy. He wants power and will do anything to get it.

dont despair, stop and think if barky is spending ad dollars in places like wash and cali this could possibly mean his internals show he has problems also how much backlash is there going to be that he is delaying the world series.any answers .

    • pan

Actually, I have read that his internals are so good that he is now spending the majority of his time campaigning in red states (like Missouri and Virigina) because he has all the blue states locked up. And I do think the polls are accurate. I kept hoping that Hillary would do better towards the end in states that showed her down by a significant percentage, but the polls (even if off somewhat) ended up predicting the eventual outcome.

      • don tufts

so in washington where they have a very tight race between the dem govenor and the rep challanger barkys ahead by what 10 plus it does not make sense, besides why spend millions in cali if your ahead by what 15 pts again doesnt make sense.

        • pan

I just think Obama has so much money and he likes to spend enormous amounts of money (I read somewhere that his campaign spends $35 million in a week) and this is just to guarantee in his own mind that he will not lose. He is outspending McCain 6:1 and the money just keeps flowing into the campaign, so why not spend it in California and Washington? I don’t think he has any sense of money at this point. It is just like Bush and the war. Bush just spends recklessly and so does Obama. There are no restraints on him. I really think Obama is very much like Bush – he just wants to win by whatever means and he really is not concerned or particularly interested in the details involved in governing or in any kind of accountability.

John McCain is ignorant and so are those of you who support him. Of all the intelligent women he could have chosen, he chose such an inept woman –Palin– who can communicate via script only. Since they could not talk intelligently about McCain’s plan for the nation, they resorted to bully tactics and lies. What is it — beauty, brawns and no brains. Every word they utter are complete fabrications.

So McCain should just fly back to Washington and keep his mouth shut because all he utters are lies. There is a big difference in spreading the wealth and redistributing the wealth. McCain wants to spread the wealth and give tax cuts to the wealthy Fortune 500 and Wall Street crowd who caused the economic problems in our great country. At least Obama wants to help workers who earn less than $250,000.

Stupid Obama and Biden are hoping to capitalize off the uninformed sheep who will continue to listen to their propaganda and sleeze. So research these people for yourself. I expect MSNBC will be sued for slander shortly about the lies they are spreading about Senator McCain.

      All fixed now!

“justice from above”? Please look up the word “temerity,” then look in the mirror. Do you think you are God? What is the matter with you? I did like your phrase “uninformed sheep”; it describes you and your ilk beautifully.

I am afraid if Obama passes next week like this, then nothing will happen to him.

Hmmmm…know what BO and company remind me of?

The “shadow government” uncovered doing its little
thing long before Bush 11 was even nominated. They knew something the public was not advised of: the
election would be thrown to Georgie, regardless of the vote. That mendacious cabal was headed by
    Dick Cheney towing the neocons.

Scarey, isn’t it? What makes Obama so sure of his presidency? Even in view of the many law suits dogging his campaign? Even in view of the total distain he gets from sane America?

In my opinion, he is just a Bush of another color.
(pun intended)–an egocentric jerk no one remembers that well but when they do, it is with reservations.

His supporters say we should give him the benefit of a doubt…ok, I will. I sincerely doubt that he has the character and experience leadership on any level demands. How’s that?

And this may be petty, but what’s with the nose job?
I thought he was dismissive of his white genes. Why would he want to remodel himself in that image?

  • Shiloh

I really believe Obama is overplaying the “it’s over” meme. The republicans are now actively issuing their standard call to action by reminding the base that – OMG! the other guy could actually become president! They did it at the same point with Kerry.

No-one believes it is over with the polls now within the margin of error and tightening. Obama is now inadvertently helping the RNC get their message out.

  • DS

Shades of “Hillary should just drop out now”.

His arrogance is disgusting. I want to see that “New Hampshire disbelief” look on his face again on election night.

I didn’t think it was possible to feel so little respect for a President as I do for Bush. If Obama wins, he’ll jump into first place on that list.

I had the honor of being on a tele-conference call with Senators McCain and Liberman this morning.

The call was in regards to his stance on Israel and sent out, I guess to his Jewish American supporters. I am Jewish-Christian (don’t ask, takes to long to explain).

He made many valid points and his understanding of the region impressed this 30 year Dem! I have family over in Israel and it is of great concern to me. I feel extremely confident to cast my vote for him, something I can not say for Senator Obama.

Senator Liberman also impressed me. He stated that he had not crossed party lines to endorse Senator McCain lightly. I’m sure if elected Senator McCain will make Senator Liberman a part of his cabinet.

    • workingclass artist

Hey do some of us still have to vote?? It sure seems as if this is over and some of us don’t need to anymore all this vetting and picking of this one and that one for all these important jobs.

This has to be the first time in history am hearing that candidates are getting security briefing on national issue just in case, sorry but Bush must be the biggest A hole if this was his idea.

Anyway with Bush I really don’t know what is going on the way he is moving like even he has drunk the Obama kool-aid, there he is in his last days throwing money behind people that wasted it in the first place, and am sure if Obama win that 300bill package is coming before he leaves office.

Maybe Bush just does not care anymore and is playing one last joke on all of us, for years he fought to keep radicals and radical views out of America now Bush seems to be making it very easy for these views to seep into our lives, I will never forget this election it sure really has a lot of twist and turns you just don’t know who to trust anymore.

    Hey guys,

How do you like the $150 million dollars Obama raised last month? Here comes President Obama.

[ADMINISTRATOR: I see you're a proud advocate of the Chicago political system: Buy the election. That's definitely the best way to get the best candidate. Get a bunch of KoolAid-drunk people to donate under false names using each others' trust-fund credit cards, and voila! Good luck, and good bye.]

not to burst your bubble troll but he had to as the rnc mccain has 160million for the sprint and groups like nra have another 40 million.plus i wonder if its hamas or hezbolla that is supplying the most donations or is it soros with a computer program and a lot of prepaid cards infusing him with this cash.

  • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

This is goddamn bullshit and the Obama campaign better have some damn facts to back up this email. You are going to fucking email people that your a military spouse who made the wrong turn on post and got your kids taken away because you had a fucking Obama pin on? That means you were on a military installation and someone took your kids and the reason was based on a fucking pin? Who the hell would goddamn lie like this to give the military a bad rep and the impression that some form of discrimination is taking place? I am sick of this bastard goddamn smearing the military. This is downright fucking pathetic. Do they understand the impact of this allegation? This shit is posted in the comments section on Taylor Marsh. I cannot believe, I cannot fucking believe that these people would stoop so low and make a accusation like this. This man is attempting to turn people against the military. I hope to god they have proof of this shit because nobody I mean nobody will stand aside and let a smear like this ruin what we stand for.

Have a very disheartening story to tell all. I just got it in an email from an Obama supporter
who is also a military wife.

She’s black and feels that she’s really been singled out. I don’t know if she was or not,
but if what she says is true, it’s very very disturbing.

    Here’s her story.

Well they have new ways of getting us now.
I made a wrong turn on Fort Carson, I panicked cars were coming toward me
I was wearing my Obama pin, I went in the Family Service Center for help because I was so
    panicked
Now My children are in DHS legal full sole custody, I am not allowed to see them as I am
suppose to be causing immanent harm and possible death to my children.

I am black, I am voting for Obama, My cars have stickers & I tell people & I really think
that pin I was wearing got my kids taken away. I been a mother for 18 yrs never had a problem.
I probably will never see my kids again and I am afraid to vote.
Because if me wearing an Obama pin makes a case worker roll her eyes at me & look me up and
    down
and take my kids over a mistake, I do not know if I even wanna take a chance .
My husband is in Iraq and probably will come home to no kids.
I do hope Obama gets in things need to change.

The racial prejudice here in this country is crazy the stereotypes is crazy.
I am not black, I am not white, I am just an American
Why can’t people see I am just an American!

    • Alice Paul WPB

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. If her children are being taken away from her it’s because she’s crazy not for voting for Obama.

But wait maybe the two are the same!

      • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

Yes, that may be true but what has me furious is that she made this claim and stated she was on a military installation (Fort Carson) and they took her children away. The accusation she has made will HURT the military if its true. Because she has basicly accused them of some form of racist treatment/stereotyping. If this claim is true by all means someone should answer for this. But if it is false god help her because this is a accusation that will hurt alot of people. Military and Civilian is two different worlds. When you accuse someone of being “racist” or “racism” it will be investigated.

      • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

Jag yes. Things like this can gain momentum and I am wondering why this person would email supporters instead of people that could help IF its true. But if this is a attempt to gain attention with a false story, it will have alot of implications as well as being the biggest mistake of there life. I am going to send a email and hopefully someone can look into it before it grows wings. You cant make a accusation like that and spread it around especially if it involves your claim your children were taken based on a Obama sticker or button

        • Dr. Kate

You are absolutely correct. This email is a hoax, trashy and extremely insulting. Do what you can and I am headed to those sites that carry this to show my outrage as well.

          • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

This email was sent out to 342 people in the “Colorado for Obama” group. I would think IF my kids were taken, a Pro Obama group would not be the first people I would email. The major issue is the accusation that someone took her kids on a military installation based on a “Obama pin and sticker”. This is a HORRIBLE accusation to make. If it was true, 342 people in Colorado for Obama would be the last people I would go to first if my kids were taken.

            • don tufts

patsy ,being the son of a one star and divarte commander when he retired i would imagine that the base commander at fort carson would be quite interested in thease lies.why dont you ask your co if you could contact your base pio and have them forward to the appropriate people at ft carson .besides clearing the services name this could backfire in a major way against the bots in colorado.

    • notrees

I know for a fact there are thousands of them (men)in the area I live in who are not in the military who will not be going home to their children because they don’t want the children they sired. There are instances where some of the singles (women)even “borrow children” in order to get their welfare benefits. But the welfare is only the tip of the iceberg, there is social security, SSI, madicaid, medicare (people get the prescriptions filled and sell it at the door they came in at). It isn’t called reparation –YET.

    • HC

      I call BS.

Seems like there is more to this story than race and an Obama button.

Driving down the street the wrong way with your kids in the car, and then fleeing into a Family Service Center in panic? This never “just happens” to me. I bet there are a few interesting follow up factoids missing.

    • bethtopaz

They probably thought she was on Meth or Crank or something.

      Some comic relief:

A dumb blonde (I can tell this – I am one) went to work one morning.

Her husband, who worked from home, was listening to the news on the radio and heard that there was a car going the wrong way on the same freeway his wife took to work.

He called her on her cell phone and frantically told her about it.

She replied: “No, Honey, it’s worse than that! There are 20 cars going the wrong way!”

    • athena

I call bullshit on this ladies story.

    • Carol

I doubt if this is true. We all know that the scenario described in this e-mail would never happen even on a military post. Either the woman was truly endangering her children (driving drunk or under the influence of an illegal substance) or this is some smear campaign by an uneducated obamamaniac. Don’t buy it!

  • Elizabeth

I have never in my entire life seen such Hateful , nasty name calling from a campaign and MSM to whole segments of the electorate.

And that my friends will be the downfall of Obama.

For any one not living in a cave, has to see and hear the animosity thrown out at American middle class voters by this campaign and the media.

We have been referred to in the most horrific ways imaginable and insulted day after day for well over a year now.

I don’t beleive for one moment any sane middle class voter is going to take this sitting down.

Obama will lose this election , as he should because he is the most devisive person to ever run for POTUS.

He has done more damage to this country in the past 18 months with his hate filled words by he, his campaign and the media to last me a life time.

And the damage that has been done by dividing the races and the classes will not go away in my lifetime.

They everything goes in full circle and it sure has happened IMHO .

    WONDERFUL

BREAKING NEWS, Joe Biden declares that “undecided people” are RACISTS. I sh!t you not.

Yep folks, for the first time in history, we are finding out, according to Joe “foot in my mouth” Biden, that Undecided voters have apparently always been racists. OMG, what did they do in all these other elections if there wasn’t somone to be racist against?

We appreciate Joe letting us know his, team Obama and Democrats that they have such an opinion about undecided voters. I guess Joe is hoping to use the same tactic that made him come around to protecting and supporting Clarence Thomas and his hoping many are as weak minded and easily as intimidated as HE.

at a Fundraiser in San Fran last night.

“”Undecided people are having a difficult time just culturally making the change, making the move for the first African American president in the history of the United States of America,” the Democratic vice-presidential nominee said at a San Francisco fundraiser Saturday evening.”

It’s been in the works for years…it’s obvious.

This man would waste our money, just like he is wasting his supporters’ money right now. This is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a campaign, and I agree it is not coming from the little guy. The networks are eating it up, because they are getting a lot of this money. There is no way this man is up by 11 points. Gallup is crazy and their polling methods suspect. A majority of people, will not vote BO, but are silent or quiet about the way they feel. Too many loud mouthed BO supporters using intimidation or the race card when they do speak their mind, so why bother getting into a shouting match with crazy people. However, they will be speaking their minds loudly and clearly on November 4th. President McCain will prevail.

Last week a friend and I met for lunch in an adjacent town. As we were walking the 1/2 block from the car to the restaurant, we were stopped by a student holding a clip board. We always have petitions going on around here so…wouldn’t you know it was a bot doing voter registration. Her front sheet had the DNC on it…I was expecting ACORN.

When she asked us to register, my friend said, “I’ve already voted.” The little bot started going on though with another spiel about signing up to get the word out, etc. I said: “How do you know if the people you question are telling you the truth?” She said “Oh, we do follow-up and can prove that every contact has the potential to change 1,000 voters.” I put my hand on her arm and her face lit up when I said, “OK, I’ll vote for Obama” but quickly went dark when I squeezed her arm and added “NOT!” Well, she was little and although neither of us are very big, there were two of us! We walked away and didn’t laugh until we were inside the restaurant. My friend said “Well, that was cruel.” “You probably damaged the poor little innocent.”

Ah well, can’t begin too early to learn the facts of life. He will lose. They need to be prepared to…as the saying goes: “Get over it.”

Well I spent all morning calling every woman i know telling them how damn dangerous Obama is to our national security and the well being of our nation..

Oh and I am a former elected ..dem delegate… for my state..the women were listening carefully..and honestly..it was an easy conversation..not one said they would be voting for Obama..not one of 25 I called this morning…I am dedicating calling between 10-20 women I know each and every morning until election day!!

The general concensus was..they wanted to vote for a dem ..but Obama scares the shit out of them!

I informed all I spoke with that I already Voted for McCain..which raised curious questions..I stated that it is the first time in my life I voted republican..but that I am an American first.
That was greeted with high approval..from all..they agreed..

So please folks..takwe the time to call all your firends and family..yes you might get treated nasty by some..but people may surprise you..I was certainly surprised this morning..as no one I know is voting for Obama of who I called..so far!!

Oh and I got a call from Gallup this morning ..from Nebraska..I refused to do their poll!

where did you call? Any of the swing states??

  • Sarracuda In So Cal

I think it’s funny that Colin Powell is coming out NOW to endorse Obama, saying it is because of Palin’s “inexperience” really Colin, then how come you didn’t come out A FREAKIN MONTH AGO, Sarah has been McCain’s VP choice since September, it took this dumb ass til NOW to call into question her experience, PLEASE, if anyone believes that crap I got some land on Pluto to sell you. I think Obama is actually afraid he could lose the election, Biden coming out saying “Undecideds are racists” Obama saying that McCain calling his tax plan “Welfare” is racist, and now Colin Powell coming out today of all days to endorse Obama, something fishy is going on here. I am smelling some fear from the Obama camp. Whenever someone has to bring up race, means they are about to lose. If they thought they had this election won, there would be no reason for them to bring up race, race is what Cochran used to get OJ off, Axelrod is known to bring up race in order to stir the pot, this is all they got, RACE, that’s it, smells like desperation to me

    • wodiej

      I agree…they stink of fear.

I have absolutely no respect for Colin Powell after the Iraq deal. I expected him to support Obama for no other reason than the ethnicity tie. But Palin has more experience than Obama so that is another lame person w a lame excuse. Powell has no credibility just like Obama.

    • QUEENIE

AND WE SHOULD CARE ABOUT THE TRAITOR POWELL WHY????????

Powell IS A MURDERER AND A TRAITOR .. to our military people and to the innocent people of Iraq..powell has no credibility ..world wide ..nor should he have any here in the USA..he is a filthy liar and traitor!
pass these along to anyone who thinks his endorsement is a good thing!!

Colin Powell lied us into war..he lied our soldiers into a war..he lied our soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqi’s to their deaths..he is no citizen or General who should be held up to any high esteem..any military man who would send our troops to war based on lies is guilty of treason…and Colin Powell should be in prison for the rest of his life..not endorsing anyone for President and any real democrat that cheers this man endorsing any candidate is not a real democrat anyway!

These article i have held in my files..in case this filthy pig Colin Powell were to try to do anything to clear his name..let alone endorse a democratic candidate for the highest office in this nation..

I keep trying to post with the links and they won’t post so i will try this way..

UK war dossier a sham, say experts
British ‘intelligence’ lifted from academic articles

      Michael White and Brian Whitaker
      Friday February 7, 2003

      Guardian

Downing Street was last night plunged into acute international embarrassment after it emerged that large parts of the British government’s latest dossier on Iraq – allegedly based on “intelligence material” – were taken from published academic articles, some of them several years old.
Amid charges of “scandalous” plagiarism on the night when Tony Blair attempted to rally support for the US-led campaign against Saddam Hussein, Whitehall’s dismay was compounded by the knowledge that the disputed document was singled out for praise by the US secretary of state, Colin Powell, in his speech to the UN security council on Wednesday.

Citing the British dossier, entitled Iraq – its infrastructure of concealment, deception and intimidation in front of a worldwide television audience Mr Powell said: “I would call my colleagues’ attention to the fine paper that the United Kingdom distributed… which describes in exquisite detail Iraqi deception activities.”

But on Channel 4 News last night it was revealed that four of the report’s 19 pages had been copied – with only minor editing and a few insertions – from the internet version of an article by Ibrahim al-Marashi which appeared in the Middle East Review of International Affairs last September.

Though that was not the only textual embarrassment No 10 seemed determined to tough it out last night.

Dismissing the gathering controversy as the latest example of media obsession with spin, officials insisted it in no way undermines the underlying truth of the dossier, whose contents had been re-checked with British intelligence sources. “The important thing is that it is accurate,” said one source.

What Whitehall may not grasp is the horror with which unacknowledged borrowing of material – the crime of plagiarism – is regarded in American academic and media circles, even though successive US governments have a poor record of misleading their own citizens on foreign policy issues at least since the Vietnam war. On a special edition of BBC Newsnight, filmed before a critical audience last night, Mr Blair stressed that he was willing to forgo popularity to warn voters of the dangers of weapons of mass destruction: “I may be wrong, but I do believe it.”

With trust a critical element in the battle to woo a sceptical public the first sentence of the No 10 document merely states, somewhat cryptically, that it “draws upon a number of sources, including intelligence material”.

But Glen Rangwala, a lecturer in politics at Cambridge University, told Channel 4: “I found it quite startling when I realised that I’d read most of it before.”

The content of six more pages relies heavily on articles by Sean Boyne and Ken Gause that appeared in Jane’s Intelligence Review in 1997 and last November. None of these sources is acknowledged.

The document, as posted on Downing Street’s website at the end of January, also accidentally named four Whitehall officials who had worked on it: P Hamill, J Pratt, A Blackshaw and M Khan. It was reposted on February 3 with the first three names deleted.

“Apart from passing this off as the work of its intelligence services,” Dr Rangwala said, “it indicates that the UK really does not have any independent sources of information on Iraq’s internal policies. It just draws upon publicly available data.”

Evidence of an electronic cut-and-paste operation by Whitehall officials can be found in the way the dossier preserves textual quirks from its original sources. One sentence in Dr Marashi’s article includes a misplaced comma in referring to Iraq’s head of military intelligence during the 1991 Gulf war. The same sentence in Downing Street’s report contains the same misplaced comma.

A Downing Street spokesman declined to say why the report’s public sources had not been acknowledged. “We said that it draws on a number of sources, including intelligence. It speaks for itself.”

Dr Marashi, a research associate at the Centre for Nonproliferation Studies in Monterey, California, said no one had contacted him before lifting the material.

But on the regular edition of Newsnight he later gave some comfort to No 10. “In my opinion, the UK document overall is accurate even though there are a few minor cosmetic changes. The only inaccuracies in the UK document were that they maybe inflated some of the numbers of these intelligence agencies,” he said.

Explaining the more journalistic changes inserted into his work by Whitehall he added: “Being an academic paper, I tried to soften the language.

“For example, in one of my documents, I said that they support organisations in what Iraq considers hostile regimes, whereas the UK document refers to it as ‘supporting terrorist organisations in hostile regimes’.

“The primary documents I used for this article are a collection of two sets of documents, one taken from Kurdish rebels in the north of Iraq – around 4m documents – as well as 300,000 documents left by Iraqi security services in Kuwait. After that, I have been following events in the Iraqi security services for the last 10 years.”

Iraq’s decision last night to let weapons inspectors interview one of its scientists for the first time without government “minders” signalled that Baghdad may be bending under international pressure.

But diplomats will be trying to determine over the next few days whether it is a token gesture or a real shift away from what they describe as Iraq’s “catch us if you can” approach to inspections. Hours before the announcement, a Foreign Office source in London signalled that this was the kind of change of heart that Iraq would have to make to avoid war.

Downing St admits blunder on Iraq dossier
Plagiarism row casts shadow over No 10′s case against Saddam

Michael White, Ewen MacAskill and Richard Norton-Taylor
      Saturday February 8, 2003

      Guardian

Downing Street yesterday apologised for its failure to acknowledge that much of its latest dossier on Iraq was lifted from academic sources, as the affair threatened to further undermine confidence in the government’s case for disarming Saddam Hussein.
MPs and anti-war groups were quick to protest that other features of Whitehall’s information campaign are suspect at a time when MI6 and other intelligence agencies are privately complaining at the way No 10 has been over-egging intelligence material on Iraq.

It emerged yesterday that the dossier issued last week – later found to include a plagiarised section written by an American PhD student – was compiled by mid-level officials in Alastair Campbell’s Downing Street communications department with only cursory approval from intelligence or even Foreign Office sources.

Though it now appears to have been a journalistic cut and paste job rather than high-grade intelligence analysis, the dossier ended up being cited approvingly on worldwide TV by the US secretary of state, Colin Powell, when he addressed the UN security council on Wednesday.

Downing Street yesterday toughed it out, insisting that what mattered was that the facts contained in the document were “solid” and helped make the case Tony Blair rammed home on BBC Newsnight. But the middle section of the dossier, which describes the feared Iraqi intelligence network, was taken, much of it verbatim, from the research of Dr Ibrahim al-Marashi without his knowledge or permission.

“In retrospect we should have acknowledged [this]. The fact that we used some of his work does not throw into question the accuracy of the document as a whole, as he himself acknowledged on Newsnight last night, where he said that in his opinion the document overall was accurate,” the No 10 spokesman conceded. “We all have lessons to learn,” he added. The four officials originally named on the website version of the 19-page dossier include Alison Blackshaw, Mr Campbell’s senior assistant, and Murtaza Khan, described as a news editor on the busy Downing Street website.

Professor Michael Clark, director of the International Policy Institute at King’s College London, said presenting such intelligence material “invalidates the veracity” of the rest of the document. The shadow foreign secretary, Michael Ancram, called for a cabinet minister to oversee government information on Iraq.

Even before the latest row some Whitehall officials were protesting that MI6 and other intelligence material was being used selectively by Downing Street. A well-placed source made it clear that the dossier had been the work of Downing Street and the Coalition Information Centre, the body set up after September 11 to put the US-British case on the war against terrorism. The source dismissed a key section of the dossier as full of “silly errors”.

Glenda Jackson, the Labour former minister, was one of several MPs to protest that the government was misleading parliament and the public. “And of course to mislead is a parliamentary euphemism for lying,” Ms Jackson told Radio 4′s Today programme.

Dr al-Marashi expressed “surprise” at the lack of a credit for his work, as did other authors whose research was quickly identified. One anti-war group, Voices in the Wilderness, identified a passage from No 10′s September dossier directly traceable to Saddam Secrets, a book by Tim Trevan published in 1999.

The Middle East Review of International Affairs, from which Dr al-Marashi’s work was lifted, is based in Israel, which makes it a suspect source to even moderate Arab opinion, and another reason why the origin of the information should have been listed.

Colin Powell defends US policy on Iraq
      January 9, 2004 – 9:46AM

Secretary of State Colin Powell acknowledged today that he saw no “smoking gun, concrete evidence” of ties between Saddam Hussein and the al-Qaeda terror network, but insisted Iraq had dangerous weapons and needed to be disarmed by force.

At a State Department news conference, Powell openly disagreed with a private think tank report which maintained that Iraq was not an imminent threat to the United States, and defended the case he made before the United Nations for a US-led war to force Saddam from power.

“My presentation … made it clear that we had seen some links and connections to terrorists organisations over time,” Powell said.

“I have not seen smoking gun, concrete evidence about the connection, but I do believe the connections existed.”

Three experts at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said in a report today that the Bush administration systematically misrepresented a weapons threat from Iraq, and US strategy should be revised to eliminate the policy of unilateral preventive war.

(ahhhhhhhhhhhh but Powell testified to a smoking gun..and sent our kids to die in a hell hole based on his testimony to the world..which was all a pile of bullshit lies…what a lying piece of vile excrement Colin Powell is!)

(Noooooo Powell your presentation was a pile of lies and plagarism..total bullshit and you knew it Powell! You should be in prison Powell..not endorsing anyone!)

I agree, he raised what, 100 mil in September alone, how about instead of him putting his ads in video games, he can take that money and start spreading the welfare around, he supposedly already “won” right, why doesn’t he give the money away, oh I forgot, he and his michelle my belle are too busy purchasing Iranian wine(anyone care to ask her how come she chose Iranian wine, seems to me to be a very peculiar choice

    • Ferd McBerfle

Yep. If Oblockhead is *so* concerned, he should be using that money to help people and not to bamboozle them. Yet another in a long list of prevarications by Oblahblah.

I hadn’t seen any activity for the Dems until this week. The registrant on the street was the first but in the local paper there’s a list of many offices open now. McCain has one in Seaside and one in Salinas but the Dems have about 4 or 5 scattered around the peninsula. Again, spending a lot of money. But here, I doubt that there are any of those undecideds. I don’t know but I keep thinking that California could be a surprise. It should have been taken for granted to stay blue but it appears there’s a major effort here by the Dems. The red parts of the state are not just red, they’re scarlet. Blue are predominately SF and LA and perhaps enclaves on the coast…those laid back mellow types who want to catch a few rays rather than go to the voting booth. Let’s hope the nice weather continues and it’s a sunny 75 degrees on 11/4.

      undecideds

      …er, sorry…racists.

      • http://firefox McAnnie Carmel Baracuda

I haven’t checked but we have a heavy hispanic population here too. Salinas, for the ag workers, and the rest of the peninsula is full of gardeners and service workers. I’ll call the McCain headquarters later today and see if they have a take on it. Talked to them last week before finishing my ballot for recommendations on candidates (judges and other officials, plus propositions) not identified by party. Because I’m a new Independent, I’m not familiar with who the Republicans are on all the slots.

I certainly hope the Hispanics are for Mac. However, we have a huge illegal population here so…don’t know how many will try to vote.

mcannie, another quick question have the bots suddenly become more active in the area?

  • mrduffin

Just went to the NC State Fair in Raleigh. The people wearing McCain/Palin stickers and clothing was 20 to 1 over Obama supporters. The folks I saw supporting Obama were young and sickly looking. The folks supporting Mcain were adults like myself. I think NC is in the bag for McCain/Palin!

    • Sarracuda In So Cal

Oh from your mouth to God’s ears I hope so. 20 to 1 for McCain, WOW, and this is in Raleigh, AMAZING, how is the rest of the state looking?? The only ones buying into Obama’s crap are the young, its the same nonsense that brought them to Kerry in 2004 with that whole “Vote or die” method which ended up NOT working

    • Elizabeth

The mostly small town or rural folks won’t go for Obama anywhere…it’s the suburban, urban and fraudulant ballots that are so concerning.

    • wodiej

      good news, thanks for sharing!

    • Zimeeisme

Hey…I was at the fair today too! I saw lots of stickers. My husband said he saw more McCain ones, I thought there were more Obama.

Either way, I do not believe that NC is a swing state. I think McCain will win by 10%.

I’m beginning to think that Biden is a plant. No not THAT kind of plant. LOL! A plant that is put into service to undermine Obama’s chances.

Just think. Biden has said things that run counter to the american voter psyche.

    Paying more taxes is patriotic.

    Undecideds are racists.

    What else?

Know what else I find interesting? No mention on the headline news of Obama’s 100,000 rally yesterday. Where is it?

It’s not been in my local paper.

It hasn’t been mentioned on the home page on my computer.

The ultra pro Obama website I spy on hasn’t mentioned it.

    What the eff?

    • Sarracuda In So Cal

yeah but will the liberal media mention what Biden said about undecideds, that is the question. It is the media that is keeping Obama in the race, seriously if the media weren’t so in the damn tank for Obama he wouldn’t even be the nominee right now. Let’s see some of Biden’s famous gaffe’s
      1. Paying higher taxes is patriotic
      2. No clean coal
      3. If there was any clean coal, we would send it to China
      4. JOBS is 3 letters(One of my favorites)
      5. American got rid of Hezbollah in Lebanon(OH REALLY JOE, thats news to me)
The fact that this Dan Quayle with hair plugs isn’t being called out for this crap is unreal. All they do is make excuses for him, he has 30 years in the senate, BIG FREAKIN DEAL, doesn’t take away the fact that he’s a moron. People mention what would happen if Sarah became president, but no one mentions what would happen if Biden became president

      • Ferd McBerfle

Yeah but Biden is STILL better than Oblockhead. This is how monumentally stupid the Democratic “leadership” is.

    • http://firefox McAnnie Carmel Baracuda

Well, he won St Louis in the primary…big AA population…as well as Kansas City. The rest of MO is red. Maybe some of the so-called “rubes” came in to examine the freak factor.

      • Steve_in_KC

The Kansas City Star published its endorsement for Obama yesterday. It made me sick to my stomach, but it’s been pretty transparent all along that they were in his pocket.

Today, the first three letters to the editor were about that endorsement. The first one said he couldn’t believe they were endorsing a Socialist! The next one supported them. The third one said they subscribe to the Star only for local news, but they were now cancelling that subscription due to the endorsement of Obama.

That made me happier. There were also several other items in the OpEd section that balanced things a little bit, but not much. They have been on his side since last spring.

Interestingly, however, they endorsed Hillary Clinton in the early primaries! And I understand they also endorsed Kerry and Gore in the past.

But I agree with you, McAnnie, that the rest of the state is solid red, just like Kansas.

We’ve seen this before. Watch out now he is going to declare himself the victor and then move the White House to Chicago and integrate it into his campaign.

Only thing McCain won’t bend over for him so there will be a fight – I’m in.

And by the way someone should tell that SOS of Ohio that she needs to get ready (people and budget) to verify every vote cast in Ohio after the election. The media will not be able to scream down our voices this time.

  • beachnan

I am from the Monerey Bay Area too, and I have been amazed about the lack of BO signs. Four years ago, there were Kerry signs everywhere. I have a gut feeling that a lot of former Dems might be voting Republican this cycle. I know that in my family, 10 members who have never voted Republican before, will be pulling the lever for McCain/Palin.
    (with pleasure, BTW)

    • http://firefox McAnnie Carmel Baracuda

Yep, and there were loads of bumper stickers too for Kerry. A few around but nothing like last time. I saw a McCain/Palin bumper sticker in Carmel last week…on an Oregon plate! Not a single one on a local car or down at the P. O. where we all pick up our mail. Now that’s strange. A few yard signs for Mac popping up but on the roadsides rather than in front of houses. Ha ha. Wonder why? Think they’d like to avoid getting their car keyed? I know I would.

      • bethtopaz

I drive the freeway, I-80, that runs from S.F. to Sacramento (and across the country) and I have hardly seen any bumper stickers at all — for anyone!

        I have a McCain/Palin sticker, but that’s it.

In my town — no Obama yard signs, but McCain/Palin signs. I’m sure there are a few, but I haven’t seen them.

The Dems I know just have local politicians’ yard signs – no BOT signs.

        It’s really eerie.
