A Clinton/Obama Trip Down Memory Lane With WalMart

* Bumped Up *

You may recall during the 2008 Democratic Primary Campaign, Hillary Clinton was attacked by Barack Obama about her connections to Wal-Mart while First Lady of Arkansas. Oh, yes, he got just a tad testy as she was highlighting his constant “WORM”-ing (What Obama Really Meant). So he lashed out at her.

In case you forgot that little window into how quick Obama is to hurl accusations , here it is:

And the media, already well into Obama’s pocket, did this “expose” on Hillary Clinton’s connection to WalMart:

Gee – if they could actually do some investigative reporting on HER, and send a legion of AP reporters to Wasilla, how is it they could not be bothered to do anything of the kind to Obama? Oh, right – I forgot – the JournoListers who were protecting him from any hard writing on his unsavory connections. Silly me.

Had the media actually bothered to do their jobs, instead of reacting with glee when Obama reacts so defensively, perhaps they could have taken a little look see at what Obama’s wife’s connection was to WalMart. But, no. Why would they do anything to impede their narrative of Obama’s holiness, or in any way shift his blame off of Hillary Clinton.

So, let’s just see how the media deals with this new announcement, as reported by the Washington Post, “Michelle Obama, Wal-Mart Announce Healthy Food Campaign.” Now, on the face of it, that looks like a great thing. Except for the arrogant, condescending way Barack Obama talked to Hillary Clinton for having had ANYTHING to do with this company, and Arkansas based company, while her husband was governor. Yet, here is ol’ Michelle, teaming up with that very same company. As far as I have heard, not a whole lot has changed with Wal-Mart, how it treats women, how it treats its workers in general, or any of the other general complaints about this company.

Now to the article:

First lady Michelle Obama joined Wal-Mart executives at a Southeast Washington community center Thursday morning to announce a campaign by the low-priced retail giant to offer more healthful foods and push its suppliers to do the same.

Obama has made fighting childhood obesity and increasing nutritious food options in poor neighborhoods a top priority. She will join Wal-Mart, which recently announced plans to open its first stores in the District, to announce “a major initiative to provide its customers with healthier and more affordable food choices,” Wal-Mart said.

[...]

Wal-Mart said it will make thousands of the packaged food items that it sells more healthful over the next four years, make healthful food choices more affordable and more clearly labeled, build more stores in underserved areas and increase its charitable donations to nutrition programs.

[...]

Wal-Mart praised Obama’s “spirit of collaboration,” and called her a “catalyst that helped make today’s announcement a reality.”

Wal-Mart has drawn criticism from advocacy groups in the District and elsewhere because of its anti-union policies.

Obama resigned from the board of a Wal-Mart vendor in 2007, days after her husband – then vying for the Democratic presidential nomination – said he would not shop at the store. [snip] (Click HERE to read the rest.)

If you needed any more proof of Michelle’s connection to WalMart during the campaign, that last line should suffice. If her board position was NOT closely aligned, there would be no need for her to retire, would there?

Yes, it is amazing what just a couple of years will do. Now the once hated, despised, union busting, women hating Chinese-product selling behemoth is now the shining light for the First Lady’s pet project (not that there is anything wrong with healthy eating – I am all for it – it is the hypocrisy that bugs me).

I cannot WAIT to see how Obama’s supporters are going to spin this one. Any guesses? Feel free to talk about that, or anything else on your minds today!

NOTE: Friends, my partner and I are embarking on a major construction project at our home starting Monday, Jan. 24th. I am not sure how much this will impact my writing, but I am assuming it may affect the regularity of my posts. That is to say, I will write when I can, but no promises about how often. And, I will certainly keep checking in to see what’s going on with the awesome readers here at NQ.

  • SeriouslySickOfObama

RRRA, THANK YOU for the above information, as always, YOU DELIVER!! And, on a side note, if your doing a DIY, God Help you, LOL!!  I thought my husband and I would be divorced bf our project was finished, Just think HAPPY THOUGHTS!!

  • Wuzza blue dot in Texas

Thanks for reminding me why I despise Barry and his wife for being such hypocrites.  Not that I needed a reminder.

  • Kathleen Wynne

    Amy,

Thank you for keeping this hypocrisy front and center.  I remember distinctly reading about michelle’s connection with Wal-Mart back during the primary, when it was clear the media were his paid minions.

It’s so important to keep track of the evidence and truth about obama and michelle and who they really are.  I would suggest copying onto disk any information or youtube videos that showed that obama was nothing more than a Chicago politician, because I predict someday in the near future, finding this evidence will be more difficult, if not impossible.

It’s become more and more clear in these past two years that the media isn’t going ever to expose the puppet of the power elite, because, HEY, they’re puppets for the same power elite!  They’ve been given their marching orders to protect obama at all costs.  After all, he’s alreadying running for second term, which is mindblowing, consider what an abysmal failure he has been!!

I hope everyone recognizes the importance of being able to keep this information out on the net for the next 2 years.  The more people who don’t vote for obama, the harder it will be for the powers that be to steal the election for him AGAIN, like they did in the primary.

  • seattlegonz

Great post RRRA. I couldn’t watch the Hillary video, though…I’m afraid of triggering flashbacks to the campaign and reliving the debate was all I could handle. She won every debate they had, she even won the primary vote…she won over everything but corruption.

Yeah, the hypocrisy. Hillary was the first woman on the board at wallmart, and she argued for women’s rights, childcare, etc. When that is brought up it’s usually asserted that she must not have made much change since later women filed suit against the company. Yeah, she hasn’t solved institutionalized or cultural sexism, yet…let’s eviscerate her as ineffective.

  • tek

I remember that debate.  Obama was being his usual assinine self.

  • helenk

    Meeeeschelle always had lousy timing.
Walmart case in Supreme Court for treatment of female workers.

There is no way that Hillary would make such a stupid move. She would be following the case.

As soon as the Obamas are out of the white house they too can hang out with the transnational global elite like the Clintons. And if MO does nothing more at Walmart than to get them to quit blasting their red meat with carbon monoxide to make it  appear blood red it may be worth her time as the poor love Walmart & seem to go there even when it charges more than the local chain groceries for many of its food products.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thanks, SSOB – nice of you to say!

Well, mostly we will have some trained professionals around, but yeah, I hear ya!

  • Cindy

    Rev. Amy—-Wonderful post! Thank you.
Well, as Sarah P. said, if it weren’t for double standards, they (Dims and friends) wouldn’t have any standards at all.

I want to add one little story, speaking of WalMart.
I may have mentioned this already, but guess who I saw shopping in our local WalMart, here in our little town several months ago? “Roe” (Norma McCorvey) as in Roe v. Wade……She (Norma), as you know, is now anti-abortion and a real thorn in the liberals left side! Don’t you love it? The world is getting curiouser and curiouser.
Best to you and your partner on your construction adventure.
We’ll miss you! And be careful!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

SG, I completely understand abt the video.  And yeah, it is very hard to watch these things.

The ABC report wasn’t just reporting – it had a real edge to it, one never, ever directed at Obama then or now.  The attitude of the reporter was so negative, you’d think Hillary had stolen his puppy or something.

Or, as you said, for some reason, NOT eradicated institutionalized sexism!  The nerve!!!

Kathleen, thanks so much.  You are right that we need to retain this information in a safe place.

Sadly, the hypocrisy is so prevalent, it is not difficult to find examples.  The Obamas and WalMart is just one more…

  • helenk

here are three people all with law degrees.
One woman becomes one of the top lawyers in the country. Becomes first lady of Arkansas then  the USA, becomes a senator from NY, runs for president and is villified for all of this. Then as Secretary of State she does a wonderful job. Spends her time trying to promote the welfare of women and children

One man never goes to a court case, becomes a community organizer, speaks at colleges, never a professor but lets the public think he is one.
Hides his records. Selected by the democratic party to be installed in the white house. Spends his time promoting the welfare of none but himself.

The other women never practices law. gets a job at a hospital with a large salary where her husband has voted to give government money.
Wants a salary to become first lady. Promotes good slogans but little action.

    the american people got screwed.

    Hey Amy,

I agree there’s plenty of examples of their hypocrisy, but at least, keep the videos on DVD someplace, because when the words come out of obama’s and michelle’s own mouths, it will be harder for the propaganda machine (MSM) to lie and get away with it.  Trust me on this, my friend.

  • greenlantern

I hear you, SG. I thought for a moment before I clicked on that vid of the debate. The thought of going back there is so heartbreaking. I remember this one, though, and the way she was able to get her points in. After the line about Rezko, the camera panned to a middle-aged black woman in the audience as she exclaimed appreciatively and quickly clapped away in glee. It was a great moment. She hadn’t lost the black community yet.

  • HARP
  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Helenk, you have summed it up beautifully.  It really is amazing, isn’t it?  And what is worse are ALL of the excuses made for them by their supproters, from the DNC people on down.  Just mind boggling.

Cindy, that is really something abt seeing Norma!  I knew she had changed her position on abortion after the Roe case.  Wow…

And thanks – I do hope to be able to check in here regularly, and write when the hammering and everything reduces to a dull roar… :)   I just have no idea how things are going to go, you know?  Anyway – thank you!

  • Kathleen Wynne

    Amy,

At least keep all of the youtube video clips you can on DVD safe someplace of both obama and michelle getting caught in the act of being themselves.

Trust me, if we don’t keep an “underground library” of the truth of what really happened during these strange and interesting times, I guarantee history will be re-written by those in power and who put obama in the WH depicting him as THE ONE we were waiting, if we let them!

I’m sure you feel the same way as I do. We’ve got the technology, so, let’s make certain we preserve the truth about this time in history for as long as we can.  It’s the least we can do for those who will come after us to know what they’re up against.

  • greenlantern

Why do we keep talking about Hillary so much? “It’s all moot, it’s history, she’s out of it now, she’s a sell-out to Obama” are a few of the lines I keep hearing. The profound effect of her example since we’ve known of her, especially her run for president, is continuing to send shockwaves through our national psyche.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Well, she IS Sec. of State and all.  :)   And I am sure that Obama gearing up for his 2012 “relection” campaign is opening some old wounds.

But in this case, it is just the plain hypocrisy the Obamas continue to exhibit, especially since Obama used it as a way to attack Clinton.  The moderator did NOT do a good job in dealing with all of that, either, and never did get obama to address the Rezko issue…

  • typical gram cracker

Sounds a bit elitist.  Even some of us gazillionaires love us some Walmart.  My experience has been that prices on most products are less at Walmart than at chain stores.  Economy of scale don’cha know.  Savvy shoppers can get the best prices on the weekly specials’ loss leaders at national chain grocery and drug stores.  Now Whole Foods is really overpriced, but certified intellectuals love getting their arugula there even though it is cheaper at Walmart.

Have you got any links showing Walmart is currently selling meat packaged with carbon monoxide.  Seems they tested and rejected that way back in 2006.

  • seattlegonz

That’s right greenlantern…she’s coming up a great deal. There’s a major play on for the “women’s vote.” Obamacrats realize that the way they treated Hillary and their poor performance means that their hold on the so-called women’s vote is tenuous at best. And, they’re afraid Palin will galvanize that vote and create a century long voting majority for republicans.

We’re approaching the centennial of the passage of the 19th ammendment, which began women’s long service to the democratic party and its agenda. It doesn’t take a poll or a seer to realize that Obama’s abysmal performance and the stealing of the nomination from Hillary didn’t play well with the women who have delivered election after election, and issue after issue for Democrats.

I’m glad people like RRRA are continuing to bring up Obama and his treatment of Hillary. It’s what we need if we’re going to free women so they won’t be taken advantage of anymore.

  • seattlegonz

Plus, it makes them squirm. :-D

  • typical gram cracker

Oh and the irony – they are trying to trip up the Palins with a women named Tripp!

  • Kathleen Wynne

    SG,

As our fellow feminist blogger, Janis, would say:  “NAIL, HAMMER, BANG!”

Amazing that anyone would expect those of us who supported Hillary to forget how she, along with her supporters, were treated for simply choosing Hillary over obama.

Women have a history of training a young guy and then HE’S given the promotion over HER, even though she’s more qualified!  Our country is going over the cliff because the patriarchy which controls every sector of our society would rather given an unqualified man a position, instead of the more qualified woman because the boyz think they are entitled to everything, even if they haven’t earned or deserve it and because they are afraid of being bested by a WOMAN.

  • typical gram cracker

Hmm… guess the SEIU didn’t get the memo about not TARGETing opponents with CROSSHAIRS.  So if you put a smiley face in the middle of the crosshairs that makes it OK.

Obama is going to appear to take the high road while his brown shirts bust knee caps for him.  This is what the campaign for 2012 is going to look like.

    Kathleen,

Normally I’m pretty circumspect about talking about Hillary. I live in a very liberal area and while I put a sign out during the campaign, I have to protect myself. But, yesterday I was talking to my naturopath about sexism, and when I mentioned Hillary and Sarah she asked me to tell her more about Palin, and Hillary.

I thought, wow, the obama-chokehold is loosening. We had a great talk, and in the end she said, “thanks for telling me about Hillary and Sarah Palin.”

    One woman at a time.

  • greenlantern

SG, I think you are SO right about the women’s vote and about Palin. I remember the FIRST speech she gave as the VP nominee, straight out of the plane from Alaska and on the tarmack, was to acknowledge the “18 million cracks in the glass ceiling” Hillary made to honor her work in the primaries. At that time, my heart just soared for Palin. I thought, I don’t know if she said that because it was smart or because it was gracious, she’s got my vote.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thanks, SG – and you are spot on.  There is concern abt the women’s vote for the Dems this time around.  Hence why articles like Amy Siskind’s on the low percentage of women in power positions within the Obama Administration are so important.

Yes, women need to be freed.  We have been toeing the line underf threats of doom and gloom for far too long now.  We need to act, not react, supporting those who truly support us.

And Hillary – well, as noted above, it is just another juxtaposition of Hilary and Barack on this issue.  Her heart is in it, you know?

  • JB in VA

I rarely think about either of the obamas, but that first clip brought back to me just how sleazy, slimey and ridiculous they are.

And Hillary is priceless: “It’s sometimes difficult to understand what he says because as soon as he’s called on it, he says ‘that’s not what I meant’.” I love it — she’s just great.

It’s still beyond all intelligent understanding that enough Dems voted for this fraud that the DNC had cover to steal Hillary’s delegates and hand him the nomination. Two more years of this crap and maybe we can evict him; four years of an affirmative-action presidency is 4 years too many.

  • Betty

Let us never forget the treachery of the JournoListers.  Would someone post a list of their names again for us all.

In fact we should post their names once a week till the 2012 election so that we are forewarned when ever we are asked to read a post or even an excerpt from a post of theirs.

  • FlDemFem

I wonder if Walmart did this expecting a favorable vote from Obama’s two appointees to the Court. I wonder if any promises were made regarding that case and its outcome. I really do wonder if the timing is as off as we think it is. It will be interesting to see how the votes go when the Justices rule on the case.

  • FlDemFem

What makes you think that global elitists would hang out with a couple of parvenues like the Obamas??

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I would be delighted to provide a link.  There are way too many to list here, but the head is Ezra Klein, from the Washington Post.  Here is a partial list (151 names).

Yes, his ASSertiveness and ASSinine behavior reminded me that he was allowed to be rude.  In no other debates could one candidate interrupt and be so rude to another without having the moderator step in.

  • Kathleen Wynne

Right again, SG.  Glad you had the opportunity to reach one of the women who chose obama over Hillary.

History will show someday that our country appeared to have “lost its collective mind” when it let an unvetted, unqualified, unfit community organizer to flim-flam them, while the best of the best, Hillary, was skewered and attacked with the most blatant, vitriolic sexism I’ve ever witnessed.

Grim proving ground for Obama’s housing policyThe candidate endorsed subsidies for private entrepreneurs to build low-income units. But, while he garnered support from developers, many projects in his former district have fallen into CHICAGO – The squat brick buildings of Grove Parc Plaza, in a dense neighborhood that Barack Obama represented for eight years as a state senator, hold 504 apartments subsidized by the federal government for people who can’t afford to live anywhere else.disrepair.

Mrs. Clinton was telling the truth-Obama NOT. 20 years a “community organizer” code for slum landlord in Chicago-horrible, shameful and disgusting-what a disaster or convenient way of stealing the taxpayers money: Fed, State and Local and all Chicagoans know this.  Mrs. Clinton Park Ridge-me Western Suburbs, no wonder the Journolists tried to hide this the fool wouldn’t have been elected dog-catcher.

Tennesse Guerilla Woman said this ad was on MSNBC yesterday. I did not see it as I do not watch that channel anymore.
    Something is going on there.

Sheesh – there are Super Wal-Marts in all the 57 states.

Nice ad by her dentist friend. He has been doing this in different states/regions at a time for awhile now. Although it looks like an ad for the new Gillette razor until the end, every word of it is richly deserved by Hillary, and the effect of sum of them screams “Why isn’t she POTUS now?” Watch it on You Tube.

I might add that the third law student also had to give up her license to practice law just four years after getting it.

  • yttik

Congratulations on the major construction project, Rev amy. Hope everything goes well and it doesn’t cause too much of a disruption.

  • Noogan

Wow. I hadn’t seen that ad. It made me feel excitement about Hillary Clinton again; I guess maybe if she decided to challenge Obama, I might be able to vote for her. I didn’t think, after so much that has happened, I could. It just makes me sad to think “what if?” She was so damn close, and they took it away from her; they played THE RACE CARD on this country.

    Sickening; it still sickens me.
