“Touch Me? Sue YOU, Touch Me” (+ Open Thread)

That is the revised philosophy of “Screw me? Screw You, Screw Me” since the institution of Government Sanctioned sexual assaults by TSA agents. At least as far as former Governor, Jesse Ventura is concerned.

Yes, recently the former governor of Minnesota suffered the indignity others of us have had to endure, and his response is to sue the Department of Homeland Security and TSA for unlawful, warrantless search. And why was the good former governor given the TSA assault treatment? He had a titanium hip replacement.

Welcome to my world, Governor.

Yes, like me, rather than use a wand to search the former governor, he was subjected to the same sexual assault numerous other Americans have had to suffer. He had this to say about it:

[snip]Rather than being scanned with a hand-held wand, he says he was subjected to an intrusive pat-down that “exposed him to humiliation and degradation through unwanted touching, gripping and rubbing of the intimate areas of his body.”

Ventura, who was governor of Minnesota from 1999 through 2002, says such searches not only intrude on his “personal privacy and dignity” but cause him to be concerned about his “personal health and well-being.”

Ventura asked a federal judge in Minnesota to issue an injunction so he would no longer be subjected to “warrantless and suspicionless” scans and searches. [snip]

Right there with ya, brother. Ventura’s lawyer, David Olsen, cites these reasons for the lawsuit:

[snip] “He’s made a decision that someone needs to make a stand and he’s not one to back down from a fight,” said Olsen. “He sees the erosion of civil liberties here and he’s willing to stand up not only for himself, but for others.”

The suit names Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and TSA Administrator John Pistole as defendants. [snip] (Click HERE to read the rest.)

Good for Governor Ventura. This kind of treatment of law-abiding citizens simply because they/we have purchased an airplane ticket and had to suffer from a joint replacement should not also have to suffer this kind of indignity, this assault. There is no other word for it but that.

I was curious, given the outrage and brouhaha over these illegal searches if Obama would mention it in his SOTU address, you know, like maybe they were going to stop doing them, and return to using a wand should the need arise.

Well, Obama said something about it alright:

Ahahahaha – so very funny, President Obama. What a freakin’ jokester you are. For those of us who have been sexually assaulted by the TSA, elderly people, children, folks with joint replacements, colostomy bags, et. al, this is no laughing matter. Add to that people who have been sexually assaulted previously in their lives. This kind of thing, this public assault and indignity, can make those assaults fly to the fore of someone’s life, doubly victimizing them.

And Obama makes a joke about it. That is just cruel. Cruel and mean-spirited. That is one of the big problems with Obama – he has no compassion, or certainly does not appear to have any.

The ACLU is none too happy about this little “joke” of Obama’s either. The ACLU is collecting information from travelers, including me, about these “pat-downs,” and is working on a case to end this un-Constitutional practice.

As for me, I wish I could join in with Governor Ventura on this lawsuit. I wish I had thought quickly enough to have my partner photograph these assaults/pat-downs. And, for our next upcoming trip, we will be driving – from the Charleston, SC area to Miami, FL (for a cruise) rather than flying. I cannot, I WILL not, go through that again, certainly not so soon after the last indignity.

That the Dept. of Homeland Security, specifically Janet Napolitano, continues to assert this is the way to go, and that the president of the United States, rather than ceasing this horrendous practice, makes a joke about it, is telling indeed. What it says is that our leaders do not have our best interests in mind. That they do not care about our civil liberties being trashed by the very people who have sworn to up hold them. To them, this is a joking manner.

Mr. President, government sanctioned sexual assault is no joke. Shame on you for even treating it as such. This practice should be ended, and now. Oh, and try something new and different next time, like a little bit of compassion, would you? Just a thought…

  • Docelder

he has no compassion, or certainly does not appear to have any. - Just one more “special olympics” moment for POTUS. Who is just too sexy for his pants… and he knows it… and he loves himslf for that.

  • Concerned

To them, it’s just another method of breaking us down. It’s not about security. Heck no. It has always been about breaking down our resistance…bit by bit.

Thankfully, the new speaker doesn’t seem all that amused.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

It certainly seems that way, Concerned.

I hope the new Speaker does do something abt this.  If not, I imagine they will be seeing a whole lot more lawsuits…

And Docelder, great comment.  Except, again, you got a song stuck in my head.  Do you think Obama sings this to himself at night?  Maybe he and Putin do a duet:

  • surfered

Yes, yes, yes… we want to be protected from another terrorist hijacking, but don’t search me at the airport.  We want our military to go kick somebody’s ass, but don’t ask me to go do it.  We want people to take personal responsibility, but don’t force me to buy health insurance.  We want the budget balanced, but don’t raise my taxes. We learn today the this year’s deficit will be a record $1.5 trillion, and $500 billion of it is from the tax cuts we got in December.  No wonder China is winning.

  • olivia1998

he has no feeling.  He’s as cold as ice

  • helenk

I am so glad that Jessie is doing this. I hope it becomes a class action suit.
My daughter and her family  are driving from NJ to Fla for a cruise in April.
I am glad because I do want my granddaughters or my daughter to take the chance that they could be molested. Also my son-in law just completed radiation treatment and will have to go through a second round of chemo due to  bladder cancer. He does not need to go through this.

When the chief pervert in charge , Napolitano made the statement that now the American people know what criminals are subject to, I was furious. Since when is a law abiding citizen supposed to be treated like a criminal?

You want criminals, why don”t you try traveling along the Mexican border? If the chief pervert in charge tried patting one of the drug runners there she would probably be shot.

There were no tax cuts. It was a continuation of current tax law. Of course that trillion dollars he spent kept unemployment under 8% as promised. Or not.

  • helenk

That is a  perfect song for backtrack

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Exactly right, candymarl – there was a continuation of current taxes.

I do not see how sexually assaulting people who have had joint replacements is keeping our country safe, surfered.  They could use a WAND to determine the source for why the standard screen went off.  The primary targets thus far have been children, elderly people, people like me with joint replacements, or people with other physical issues.  Please explain to me how that is protecting us from “terrorists.”

IOW, that is a red herring argument.  Our government is taking our civil liberties away from us.  I am pretty sure a number of people would see that as the terrorists winning this one.  And it has zero to do with China.  It has everything to do with the mentality of this Administration.

  • armymom

Do you have someone in the military who’s kicking somebody’s ass? Your words are somewhat confused. Personal responsibility means just that. You take action for yourself. But you had to add “don’t force me to buy health insurance”. You do realize that there are quite a few people who save back money to handle their healthcare needs? They pay cash. Who are you to tell them that their not handling their responsibility? Who are you to know what their family needs in the way of healthcare? You don’t. You just pretend that you know what’s best for people. And no, don’t raise the taxes on people who are already shouldering the burden for the rest of the lazy ass americans who won’t get off their ass and get a job. We’re not talking about those who have been laid off, but those who never wanted to work in the first place. Almost half of this country pay no taxes and yet you want to raise the taxes on those who do pay them. That doesn’t sound greedy to you? That sounds fair to you? China is winning because we have people like you who would rather point fingers than to create wealth. What have you done to create wealth? What have you put up for collateral to build a business? How many hours do you work at your own business?

And yes, we want to be protected from another terrorist hijacking, yet our government won’t even protect our borders. Instead, they would rather feel us up and put American citizens out . I mean we can’t secure our borders first and foremost even when we know that we’ve had suspicious people crossing over them. No we have to grope the citizens of this country because God only knows we can’t offend illegals.

I imagine this will be my last time talking to you because you do not show me that you have any critical thinking skills. You only cut and paste.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I know, where is Ferd?  And Katmoon?

Helenk, yes, we would rather make that long, long drive for a cruise, too, than suffer through another one of those assaults.

Napolitano has been so wrong so many times already – tell me again how she still has her job?  Oh, right – she works for Obama.

“I was on 34 radio stations that morning. That was the only station where I said, instead of saying ‘the hospital said there’s no birth certificate’ I misspoke and said Neil said that,” Evans told Fox. “I misspoke and I apologize for that. I apologize to Neil.”
However, Evans claim to get information from Abercrombie also was made on 945 KOOL FM radio in Phoenix, where a podcast reveals Evans saying, “Yesterday I talked to Neil … said he has searched everywhere using his power as governor … there is no Barack Obama birth certificate.”

Further, in a radio interview with 590 KLBJ in Austin, Evans also stated that he had talked to Abercrombie.”

Amen Armymom.  I had 3 nephews go over there. One was in Special Forces. He’s been diagnosed with PTSD.  I know what that’s like. He never used to drink or smoke.  Now he does both. He says he’s fine and won’t ask for benefits for his condition. I’m terrified because I know sooner or later it’s gonna kick in. It happened to me and tore my life apart.

So frankly there are many of us that are not asking for anyone to do anything for us.We pay taxes too.

  • Candy

Hi Amy. THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing this piece. I’ve been absolutely livid about this whole issue. I’m so grateful to Gov. Ventura for taking a stand. Incidentally, other lawsuits have been filed. But unfortunately lawsuits with appeals and all take years. I’ve joined FaceBook’s I WONT FLY page. I’ve written to the Rutherford Institute which is filing multiple lawsuits on TSA victims’ behalf. i’ve also writtent to Darrell Issa who is the new chair of the Congress Oversight Committee.  Well no politician other than Ron Paul has taken up the cause to defend our rights so far.Of course they don’t care beacuse Congressman and Senators are exempt from these scanners and searches. I’ve even posted a message to Sarah Palin but I guess she isn’t taking up this cause either.

This TSA violation of our human rights and dignity is abhorrent. They are all letting us hang out to dry. They who are at the top of Homeland and TSA are treating us all like we’re herds and little people. Yet no government leader except Ron Paul is standing up for us about this.

Thank you for brining up this topic.

  • candymarl red bone cracker

You’re right Candy, I get so sick of people like surfered who do nothing but complain and want most of us to support the rest of them. Then have the nerver to talk about kicking someone’s ass but not wanting to do it. You’ve done it, most of my family has done it and many on here have sons and daughters who are doing it now, including my son. All most Americans want is to be left the hell alone when it comes to the government. Most, well it use to be most, I have my doubts now, but anyway, most want to work, pay their FAIR share of taxes and contribute to society as a whole. How they do that is not surfered or the government’s business. Most of us on here aren’t “collectivenists”, but would help out those we feel needed it. I don’t need the government or surfered telling me how to spend, donate or invest my money. I’ve handled it quite well most of my adult life. That’s what I call responsibility. If he’s not or anyone else is not responsible with their money, their health or anything else, why is it my responsibility to bail them out?

  • armymom

But bbbbbbb he’s the most “intelligent President evah”…..

No, thank you – thank you for the information, too.  I am going to go to the Rutherford Institute and see what they are doing.

It is abhorent – that is the perfect word for it, Candy.  It is horrifying that our government is going this, and that our president makes JOKES abt taking away our civil liberties.  That is disturbing on so many levels…

RRRA, great post and thanks for bringing this up again. At the ACLU page you link to, there’s a petition to Janet Napolitano and Congress about this, so I hope people will sign on.

The unspoken part of obama’s joke, of course, is that they’re working on instituting the same invasive searches for train and bus passengers. IOW, his “joke” was actually another lie.

I’m glad Jesse’s doing this, too. It never hurts to have high-profile people taking the lead; plus it proves the point of how mindlessly wasteful the TSA’s approach is.

I’ll just go ahead and say it.  I am straight.  If a man started feeling me up and I got a hard on I would be very embarrassed and confused.  I have gay family members and don’t have a problem when they hug me at holiday affairs.  But they are family and I don’t know what would happen if a stranger felt me up.

I have thought about this.  I think I would go nitro on them and end up in jail for assault charges.  So.. I don’t fly anymore.

  • seattlegonz

I’m so glad you highlighted this rrra. I heard that snippet where Obama made his joke and I thought I was going to be sick. He’s so stupid and offensive. Even with high speed rail there will need to be security, the same security that we use at airports. It’s like he has no idea what the patdowns are for, who ordered them, why they upset people…let them travel by rail…let them eat cake.

Some days he really makes me ill.

  • FlDemFem

Check out Obummer’s newest propaganda effort..the YouTube interview. He totally flubs it. Mixes up Iraq and Afghanistan. Just goes to show you what happens when you don’t hold committee meetings when you should have. You end up ignorant of the subject. He also mentioned education, how important it is to make sure that the minorities get an education. I guess making sure the children of all the taxpayers get one too is not on the agenda. “Race to the top” only works if you aren’t white, it seems. This YouTube campaign is supposed to reach out to the younger crowd, apparently. But it’s just as funny, or sad, for adults.

  • EllenD

we want to be protected from another terrorist hijacking, but don’t search me at the airport.

A lot of people have proposed that what they are doing isn’t making us safer.
What about a terrorist who has it stuffed up his wazoo? Does that mean we all get prostate exams?
What about a terrorist who is just happy to set it off in the convenient mob of people backed up in line for the searches?

A United States Marine was taking some college courses
between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq
and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor  who
was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in.
He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, “GOD, if you are real, then
I want you to knock me off this platform… I’ll give you exactly 15 min.”
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes
went by and the professor proclaimed, “Here I am GOD, I’m still waiting.”

It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got
    out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him;
knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently.
The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there
looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to,
noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked,
”What in the world is the matter with you?  Why did you do that?”

    The Marine calmly replied,
“GOD was too busy today protecting America ‘s
soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and

I too am livid about this issue candy. But what frightens me the most is the sight of average Americans lining up docilely to be groped. What the hell is the matter with them? Are they such cowards that they will allow any indignity to be safe? This is not the America or the Americans that I knew.

I applaud anyone anywhere that will stand up to POSs like Napolitano, Pistole and Oblahblah.

Oblahblah, who with his crude joke, probably compliments of crude, rude cardboard cutout groper Jon Favreau, lets us know that he thinks the idea of the people he is supposed to represent being groped by the thugs at the TSA is funny. How sick is that?

  • elizabethrc

I truly find Napolitano’s affect quite disturbing.  She seems completely disconnected with reality.  She is constantly off the mark in the effectiveness of so many things, from the security of the border, the haphazard safety inspections of our incoming cargo, to the lack of success of the TSA searches and the lasting damage to the emotional health of passengers.
She seems to me to be something of a pervert whom I trust not at all.

According to Scarborough, Obama’s reluctance to embrace the recommendations of the Simpson-Bowles Debt Commission report shows he isn’t serious about the issue.

The Washington Post, which never passes up an opportunity to attack Sarah Palin, has gone after her for criticizing President Barack Obama’s “Sputnik” reference in the State of the Union Address. Palin noted accurately that what Obama was calling for was “big government” as the solution to our problems. She further pointed out big government socialistic solutions are what in part did the Soviet empire in. Those comments sent Steve Stromberg at the Washington Post into a hyperbolic fit…..

In his recent AT piece, Paul Kengor looks at Obama’s aggregate poll numbers and concludes that the president may cruise to reelection in 2012. And Kengor didn’t even factor in the additional votes Obama may secure with our tax dollars via entitlements, subsidies, and his ever-increasing army of government workers. Neither did he factor in the effects of widespread voter registration fraud complements of ACORN-type front groups. On the other hand, it does appear that much of Middle America has awakened to the consequences of electing Obama in 2008.

(Snip) By stark contrast, today, virtually every conversation includes a variation of the following: “Do you people have any idea of what you are doing?” The primary reason for this reaction is the stark reality that the current world order, which has been historically successful and dominated by the United States, is beginning to unravel.

Though he omitted any reference to gun control in his State of the Union address, three of Obama’s key advisers assured reporters the issue is on the president’s to-do list.

It’s apparent that the recent media attacks on Sarah Palin have, for the first time, actually drawn blood. Palin’s negatives have shot up substantially, rising 7 points from 49% to 56%. The proximate cause is held to be the fact that she defended herself against the charge of complicity in murder in the Tucson shootings, along with engaging in some unclear variety of anti-Semitism by using the term “blood libel.”

The November election sent a clear message to Washington: less government, less debt, less spending. President Obama certainly heard it, but judging from his State of the Union address, he doesn’t believe a word of it. The people say they want cuts? Sure they do – in the abstract. But any party that actually dares carry them out will be punished severely. On that, Obama stakes his reelection. No other conclusion can be drawn from a speech that didn’t even address the debt issue until 35 minutes in.

The Browning M1911 automatic pistol is expected to become the 25th symbol of the conservative and largely rural state if approved by its House of Representatives next month. Lawmakers supporting the plan claim that the weapon – invented in Utah 100 years ago – is part of the proud history of the state. ‘This pistol is Utah – its history is emblazoned on our state,’ Republican Carl Wimmer was quoted as saying in The Independent.

Dumb Luck: Hundreds of Muscovites saved by spam message sent to Muslim that detonated her suicide bomb belt hours earlyPosted by kevindujan01

Here’s more heart-warming tales of the “Religion of Peace” at work.

Officials in Moscow are just now admitting that on New Year’s Eve Muslims planned to mass-murder hundreds in Red Square with a suicide bomb strapped to the belt of a Muslim woman (no doubt wrapped head to toe in a burpa, which keeps all her burps in and blows the thing up like a stinky balloon, FYI)…but a spam text message wishing the terrorist a Happy New Year accidentally set the bomb off hours early.  She ended up blowing herself up instead, and scaring the daylights out of her Muslim accomplices.  Who, apparently, later went on to murder over 30 people in the Domodedovo Airport bombing a few weeks later.

The Religion of Peace = so peaceful, so religious.

Honest to goodness, if you ever cursed spam texts, start wishing they were sent to Muslims 24/7/365.
As annoying as they are, they save lives.

Concerned, you are quite right. The same method, more or less, was used in Germany in the 1930′s to incrementally gain control of the lives of the German people. I remember seeing an interview on “World at War”, which I have a copy of, where this German woman says that it was gradual and that you didn’t realize how much control they had over you until it was too late. She said they did it one regulation at a time, small ones at first and then when you are used to them, bigger ones. At the end, the people were completely controlled by the government, no free speech, no political opposition, no freedom. This seems to be the same method that the Obama people are using.

By the way, Rahm got on the ballot in Chicago. Apparently, renting out your house with the intent of coming back to run for mayor qualifies one as a resident. Or so says the Illinois Supreme Court.

First, the Tea Party is not a subset of the GOP; it is an independent movement comprised of people from all stripes and backgrounds.

Ain’t gonna work. There’s no spin that can save Obama. It’s about jobs, housing, the economy, and now foreign policy. No amount of rhetoric matters. There’s no George Bush to bash as reason to elect a marxist fascist this time.

A former University of Tennessee student convicted of illegally accessing Sarah Palin’s private e-mail account is too smart and too loved to rate a bed in a Knoxville halfway house. So says the Federal Bureau of Prisons in a rare public explanation of why the agency rejected a federal judge’s recommendation that David Kernell be housed at a Magnolia Avenue halfway house instead of a prison.

    Draft EPA report: Biofuels
    threaten habitat, water quality

    The Hill

A draft Environmental Protection Agency report concludes that expanded production of renewable fuels like ethanol and biodiesel carries an array of ecological risks in the U.S. and other nations, and calls for improved policies to mitigate these harms. The report is required under a 2007 energy law that vastly increased the national biofuels mandate but also called for new analysis of the ecological effects of expanded development. The draft finds, for instance, that growing biofuels crops can affect water quality through erosion and fertilizer runoff, among other factors.

Jackson Diehl traces the serial missteps of the Obama administration in wrapping its arms around Hosni Mubarak. Diehl urges Obama to correct course: “In fact, U.S. support for a peaceful transition from Mubarak’s government to a new democracy could be decisive — and it is not too late to take the right side.” The signs are not positive that he will do so. Obama proclaimed his desire for Mubarak to allow that “people have mechanisms in order to express legitimate grievances.” But is that a democratic government? Obama is unclear.

First Lady Michelle Obama decided to let us know that fatties in America are a danger to national security. “[Childhood obesity’s]not just a health issue for children, it’s a national security issue…You have to get the whole country behind this because it’s affecting our ability to protect our freedom.” While the rhetoric sounds scary, a quick look at the DOD’s own website reveals that our recruiting numbers have actually exceeded our goals.

What America was to the world in 1950, General Motors was to the nation. It was the largest and most successful company with the largest number of employees. It paid the highest wages and contributed more in taxes than any other company. During World War II, no company had contributed more to the Arsenal of Democracy and America’s victory. As one wag said, “For every shell Krupp threw at us, GM threw back four.”

Although some of the nation’s healthcare issues are abstruse and vexing, others are relatively approachable. Many in this latter category fall within the province of the U.S. surgeon general. But the incumbent is nowhere to be found.

(snip) The current surgeon general, Regina M. Benjamin, has focused her attention almost exclusively on a single issue: obesity. And how, exactly, does Benjamin intend to address the problem? “Help Americans lead healthier lives through better nutrition, regular physical activity and encouraging communities to support healthy choices.”

As the Torah says Thou shalt not go up and down as a tale-bearer among thy people (Lev. 19:16). The ancient Jewish Sages took that passage and said that there are three transgressions that would cause a man to lose his place in the world to come: murder, adultery, and idol worship, and that loshon hora (evil speech) is equivalent to all three (Bab. Erchin 15b).  Jews believe that the harm done by telling tales about people is worse than the harm done by something like theft because one can repay stolen money, but harm done by speech can never be repaired.

    The Egypt Museum in Danger

    National Review,
    by Nina Shea

As Matthew Shaffer notes, the NDP (Mubarak’s party) headquarters in Cairo was torched earlier today. No one is moving to put out this fire. The nearby luxury Hotel Conrad is now also burning. Professor Tadros is concerned that an immediate neighbor of the NDP, also on Tahrir square, overlooking the Nile, is the world renowned Egypt Museum — the treasure house of Egyptian antiquities dating back thousands of years. This museum houses the Tutankhamon treasures, mummies, irreplaceable artifacts, priceless jewels and statuary, and a library. The burning or looting of this museum would represent an incalculable loss to humanity.

I agree about the paycut in general terms, but contrasted with the “just words” from the Cinderellaman Obama at the Hoedown (SOTU) about teachers gettin gthe “pay they deserve”, I was just pointing out that teachers union in CA went deep for Obama…

Now they are hearing his mouth move,  their paychecks shrinking and the ground under their feet rumbling as the bus approaches.

I saw a comment elsewhere re: Gov Palin. It said something like — she is like a bright burning on a porch on a summer’s eve, and the left is like all the bugs it attract.

My take–They can’t help themselves. And like that light, no matter how many critters come fluttering about, the light remains steady and bright. They better watch out. Some of them may get singed in the process.
