$600 Million, $150 Million in September alone

Ok, we’ll get one thing out of the way. I suck at math. I think I’ve balanced a checkbook once and I’ve been forever thankful for online banking that saves me the effort.

$600 Million dollars has been raised by the Obama campaign. He will easily pass all the $650m million spent in 2004. Somebody else can do some research and find the true numbers. One article is here at Kansascity.com.

All I’m reading is the usual about his great fund raising skills, learned as a community organizer I’m sure and that this has effectively destroyed public financing of campaigns.

Why does nobody ask where the money goes?I know a ton of money goes to staff, facilities and Bambi One. What I don’t know how to find but would like to know is what that $600,000,000 is really buying or can be perceived to be buying.

This is where my great Internet sleuthing skills have hit a brick wall.

  • I want to know how much Obama has spent with NBC as compared to McCain?
  • I want to know how much Obama has spent with CNN, ABC, CBS as compared to McCain?
  • Heck, I want to know how much Obama has spent with The New York Times and WAPO as compared to McCain?
  • How much has Obama spent on Huffington and Politico as compared to McCain?
  • How much has Obama paid for the love he gets from the media?
  • I wouldn’t ask how much has Obama given out in bribes to each network as that would be a racist thought.

and yes, this was originally posted at Partizane

  • NewHampster

I mean seriously folks. If one guy is dropping $50 mil in your lap and another guy gives you $2, who’s ass are you gonna kiss?

    • typewriterstreaming

Frankly I don’t kiss asses but I would kiss John McCain’s ass in a heartbeat. I know it’s clean.

    • Leisa

The Ft Worth Star Telegram endorsed Obama in the primary, and he ran full page ads everyday for a month in that paper… It made me suspicious of anything written there, and believe me, the articles were slanted heavily in Obama’s favor, excluding the other half of the story. I wrote many letters to the editor about the caucus fraud I witnessed. It only printed happy stories from Obama supporters point of view.

The problem is real. The media bias is so blatantly obvious this year they do appear to be bought.

This needs to be looked into deeper, you are right NH.

    • btintaos

LOL. Well, typically I’d kiss the prettiest one, but in this case…

        • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

That’s right only 713,000 hits come up with the query “John McCain site:youtube.com” via google and only 174,000 hits for videos on YouTube. Oh and the very top ranked hit for the query for “John McCain” in YouTube- his very own channel on YouTube run by his very own campaign. Do you guys even bother to fact check your talking points?

  • Susan

What is the most interesting is that his donations have come from millions of people, as the average donnation is still under $100. That would be an average of more that 6 million people have donated to his campaign. Astonding! I wonder what similar numbers are for McCain. What was his average donor size?

    • McHope

Yes, that’s 6 MILLION Americans that he keeps telling us are experiencing the worst economy evah, and by the way – that’s all Americans care about.

There are known illegal foreign contributions.
There are known discrepancies, like the millions of donations ending with odd cents, indicating currecy exchange.
There are known failings to report all supposed under $200 contributions that add to more than the allowable amount.
There are known illegal amounts from individuals in excess of allowances with the excess not being returned- they have 30 days.
There are known contributions from his campaign to ACORN, that were illegally labeled as lighting.

He is attempting to buy this election with illegal donations AND illegal disbursement of that money.
      Who’s challenging him?

      • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

The ACORN “lighting” outlay was corrected and no further action was taken. As for the other charges of “illegal activities” exactly where is your proof? Oh that’s right this is N.Q. we don’t need to offer any proof. We just get toss about any charge we dream up and then claim it is up to Obama disprove those charges.

    • destardi

Um, apparently you missed the article describing donations being made under FAKE NAMES or the same fake name in small amounts to escape any flagging.

Bullshit. I don’t believe 6 million people have donated to Obama. But I sure would like to see the records that back this up… if they exist.

I got another beg-a-thon letter from the Obama campaign today. I’ll send it back just like the others. Empty. And use their stanp.

I find it absolutely VULGAR that with all this “record breaking fundraising” that Obama has been doing, they are still begging for cash.

      • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

Those contribution are a matter of public record filed by the Obama campaign by the F.E.C. If you do not believe them then issue a complaint to the F.E.C. Be advised though, they are much less tolerant than Larry Johnson of unsubstantiated accusations.

This is why campaign finance reform has been at the top of McCain’s list every year.

    Obama has institutionalized corruption.

Our very system is at incredible risk. And all that $$$$ has only given the Golden Plated Turd 8% points in the polls–it ain’t nearly enough for the money spent.

Let us get out the vote for McCain. I will be in HQ tomorrow making calls. Keep up the good work folks and if you can spare a few pesos for the Campaign send them on–or give them to the “Real Democrats”

  • Hillary the President

    An additional question should be:

Where is the money coming from?

    • izarradar
    • typewriterstreaming

Absolutely. Absolutely. It’s probaly coming from people like the Saudi Prince who likely paid for his Columbia U. tuition.

      • Jane the Plumber

My guess is, much of his money is coming from OPEC. I believe they don’t want Americans drilling for their own oil. Once again our politicians will sale us out if THE ONE is elected

  • Bill

I also don’t believe he raised all this money by people sending in small donations. They don’t have to trace donations under $200, so that leaves a hell of a lot of untraceable donations. He is essentially being allowed to try and buy the presidency IMHO.

  • http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=tristkiss trist

I’m sure a good chunk of it is going right into his pocket. Oh not in any direct way that could be considered “illegal” but c’mon what happens to all those plasma tvs needed to watch the election results on? Or all those Mercedes to shuttle the messiah from here to there? Who gets to keep all that stuff? And who gets to keep the money from the selling of all that stuff once the election is over?
I think most politicians launch campaigns just to pocket the contributions. Several million ain’t too shabby as a consolation prize!

I had lunch today with 7 people who are moderately interested in politics. Not one had heard anything about Joe Biden’s warning. Not one had heard a single thing about the birth certificate/citizenship issue.

It evidently takes A LOT of money to keep those stories out of the MSM.

    • tzada

I wonder if this may be what Biden is talking about?

Forest Fire Jihad Being Threatened On Terrorist Websites
U.S. officials monitoring terrorist web sites have discovered a call for using forest fires as weapons against “crusader” nations, in what may explain some recent wildfires in places like southern California …… http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2008/me_terror_01_15.asp

LONDON — Documents recovered from a remote area along the Pakistan border have revealed that Osama bin Laden wants al-Qaida to launch a “global fireball” by lighting forest fires in Europe, the United States, Australia and South America, according to a report from Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

The documents, uncovered during an operation led by the British intelligence service MI6, have been described by experts in that agency as “the most worrying [plot] that the world is facing.”
The catastrophic wildfires would not only produce an environmental disaster but would stretch emergency services often beyond their limit and leave insurance companies facing multi-billion-dollar claims for damages that could effectively destroy the already shattered economies of a number of countries. Australia, gripped by years of drought that has left tinderbox conditions as summer now approaches, regards the threat as “terrifying.”
The country’s attorney general, Robert McClelland, warned there is “a most urgent need for renewed vigilance against a very real and present danger.”
The FBI has issued a high priority warning that “such a terrorist plan could devastate states like California.”
Spain, France and Germany — all with vast forests — are “vulnerable,” MI6 warned the intelligence services of those countries. “The Amazon Basin, and other forests which supply the world with wood, is another prime target,” the warning added.

      http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=78573

Remember those Greek fires? They thought that those had been set by terrorists.

      • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

Dipshit, do you LIVE in California? The fires are being caused the drought we are now suffering. The land is bone dry and thus highly flammable. When the high winds blow the landscape catches flame. The worst fire on record in San Diego county was caused by lost and stupid hunter not by Mooslim or any other type of terrorist.

California burns because the land is designed to burn every 20-50 years. Houses burn because idiot humans keep putting up houses in a highly flammable landscape.

Poeple are getting worried. His money is more than fishy. McCain on fox sunday with Wallace put it out about how money like this breeds corruption and that Senator Government refuses to give out his small donor list. Of course Wallace said it was legal he did not but Mac shot back that he has release all of his donors under 200 and that Senator Gubbamint promised a new era of transparency and also promised to accept public financing.

    • typewriterstreaming

I am sick and tired of every idiot in the media making an excuse for Obama’s corruption.

      • McHope

        Wallace did exactly that.

  • typewriterstreaming

And now Obinokinobe is “selling” election night coverage to the highest bidder. What does he need that money for? Pay off Hillary’s debt? This is an excellent post and I am really angry more people in this country aren’t absolutely unnerved by what he is doing. World Net Daily had a link to Mumar Kadafi tv interview speaking about all the money the Mid East donated to Obama. That’s why this thug doesn’t want to release the names of his small fund donors. They came piece meal from America’s enemies.

Why isn’t this being investigated by the Justice Dept? Do we have a government branch that right about now should be deep into an investigation????

And Who, Who, Who in this Country has the right to demand to see Obama’s qualifications (ie; Birth Certificate) to be President. These court cases are being held up and it has been suggested that they will be denied for “lack of standing”. So who in this Country has some standing and can demand some information???

No one? Did our Founding Fathers leave one gapping hole for a takeover????

Imagine what it will take to run against him in 2012 or 2016? Who can afford to launch an opposition? Especially since, even if you matched him in money, you’d have to triple it to counteract the Brown Nose Media.

  • NCgirl

Hey NewHampster! Most of the donations Obama is getting these days, are coming to him through illegal foreign sources I am sure. I bet a good portion is coming from Africa. They just love him there, even though he doesn’t give a damn about them. The FEC won’t investigate this, and I am sure they realize that he couldn’t possibly raise this kind of cash in the U.S. alone. Obama’s campaign won’t disclose who all those $200 and under donations are coming from, because he knows they aren’t legal. Mac disclosed his, but Obama isn’t made to do anything. His campaign is now offering packages to the media for election night coverage. The least expensive place for a reporter on a riser is $800. You gotta pay to play is the Obama campaign’s creed.

Whistleblower Ignored by DOJ, FEC, FBI: $200

      Million in Fishy Obama Donations!

      October 2, 2008 by texasdarlin

      Via The American Spectactor

      EXCERPT:

FEC Auditor Blows the Whistle on $200 Million in Fishy Obama Donations

REQUESTS TO INVESTIGATE IGNORED BY FEC, DOJ, and FBI
An auditor for the Federal Election Commission is attempting to have his bosses seek a formal investigation into the collection by the Obama for President campaign of more than $200 million in potentially illegal political donations, including millions of dollars of illegal, foreign donations, and has sought a request for assistance from the Department of Justice or Federal Bureau of Investigation.

But the analyst’s requests have largely been ignored. “I can’t get anyone to move. I believe we are looking at a hijacking of our political system …no one wants to touch it.”
…One reasons cited by his superiors, says the analyst, is that involvement by the Justice Department or FBI would be indicative of a criminal investigation, something the FEC would prefer not take place a month before the presidential election. Such actions, though, have been used to scuttle Republican campaigns in the past, the most famous being the Weinberger case in the days leading up to the 1992 re-election bid of President George H.W. Bush.

Also…are we sure all the money that Sen Obama is collecting in this campaign is STAYING in the US?
Is there any way to see if any of that money is going overseas to oh I dont know….maybe Kenya?

      • PamFlorida

So, it is inappropriate to investigate the financial dealings of Obama, the candidate, before the election because it would be indicative of a crime?
Wouldn’t it be better to know if he has committed a crime BEFORE he has a chance to win the presidency???

  • IndyBoomer

Well, one place where he’s spending all that moolah is in Michigan. I just returned from visiting my mother in MI for 5 days, and the Barky campaign was just carpet-bombing ads on all 4 major broadcast TV networks…morning, afternoon, evening. That takes a chunk of change. The funny thing was that as I drove around and saw the yard signs, the McCain-Palin signs were outnumbering the Obiden signs at least 3:1. There is such a thing as overexposure, Barky! People are sick of hearing you.

    • PamFlorida

Obama is spending money like it grows on trees and yet people think he would be better for the economy!
If this man gets his hands on our tax money, we can kiss our economic security goodbye, along with the economic futures of our children and grandchildren.

  • Katy

It would be of more importance to ask where all this money comes from. Also it is obvious that Obama is using every loophole in the low and apart from big reform on fundrising there this election will reveal all those loopholes. Obama will make sure that he exploits every one, even if that means that means he is single handedly killing democracy.

  • OBAMA IS A FRAUD

Nothing was more vile than seeing Obama give AOL $10,000,000 and then see the Straw Poll continually get messed with. And then to have to see all those sick “Join the Movement” Obama/Biden ads all over the site. I am tempted to cancel my AOL account over it. Ughhh….Now I live in fear that Obama has bought and paid for that Federal Judge in the Berg suit. It might sound paranoid but there’s a big ole financial machine buying this country and its integrity off and dragging us into Third World status.

Like Hillary said, ‘the sky will open up….’ This pathological liar projects all these lies so seamlessly in all direction. I feel I live in the twilight zone. I just read the explanation about the “Whitey Tape” and why it won’t surface during this election. You said that McCain saw it and decided not to use it.

This, to me, is the essence of the difference between McCain and Obama. McCain is not going to risk setting off a firestorm of racial discord in this country in order to win an election. As usual, he is putting his country first. On the other hand, I am certain beyond any doubt that if Obama had a tape with Cindy McCain railing against blacks (which of course she would never do) he would use it in a second. He has already demonstrated that he will pull the race card at every opportunity. This is the choice we have–the true patriot or the guy who will do ANYTHING (including forgery and thuggery) to win the white house.

    • http://JohnMcCain.com Galt, Master Thrall of Planet Triskelion

Mac does not have to use the alleged tape or make any decisions about it necessarily. A private party like Corsi could release it. From what I recall, Michelle’s alleged remarks were made at a public forum so there could be many people in possession of a video. The release could be entirely out of Mac’s control.

      • ANGRY BUT HOPEFUL

GALT, has anyone heard anything about CORSI? seems to me he should feel better after 2 weeks. whos keeping him off the radar? he must have some really damning evidence.

McCain has not seen it, does not have it and does not control it. If it exists it will be used. if it isn’t used it will be because it doesn’t exist.

  • For Impartial Journalism

    Can Obama buy America?

I recall that in the Pennsylvania primary, Obama outspent Hillary Clinton by an estimate of anywhere from 3:1 to 5:1. That didn’t help him, did it?

Hillary still won in PA. She got a lot of help from Obama’s “bitter/clinging” statement.

Obama is probably outspending McCain 10:1 now in PA but John Murtha runs around calling Western Pennsylvanians racist and then in an attempt to correct it he now says that up until 5-10 years ago they were all rednecks.

McCain/Palin and crew including Giuliani, Lindsey Graham, and Cindy McCain are all hitting PA hard.

My point — I think people are getting tired of Obama in their faces every minute on TV, internet, radio. I think that happened in the PA primary as well. McCain’s internals must be showing that PA is still up for grabs even though all the polls say he can’t win there.

If only it can be true that all those undecideds are really getting turned off by an agenda of “all Obama, all the time” and decide to vote for McCain in protest?

BTW, here’s how crazy this polling is. The 2 closest polls in the last election were GWU/Battleground and IBD/TIPP. Today, Battleground says Obama is +1 and IBD says he is +14. Which one has gone totally off track?

Battleground has been within 1-3% in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004. I’d probably trust them more.

By the way, Nickelodeon Kids poll released today says Obama will win by 2%. This one might be the most reliable and actually bode well for McCain since the same Kids Poll elected Kerry in 2004 and Bush actually won.

This will all come down to how much voter fraud is out there (like the New Jersey machines with no paper backup that can be hacked without any trace within 7 minutes).

    • destardi

Your post is an important one…

Seriously, the US almost breaks even every damn time, 50-50…and only that 3% of independents or swing voters decides the election.

There is NO WAY uhbama is 14pts above mccain…I DO believe that he has most likely gotten alot of low-information voters (the “I don’t give a crap about politics” voters) to vote, but that’s not going to make up for the conservative Hillary voters, and the independents that will most likely go for McCain.

I am very optimistic that McCain will win…and yes, I’m a Hillary supporter.

    • yttik

The Nickolodeon poll is really interesting. Kids are little marketing sponges, I mean Obama is the man, man. He’s the new Hannah Montana. All that advertising should be sinking in. But it isn’t.
      V-e-r-y interesting.

So either the kids at home are not hearing the kind of support for Obama that the media is tying to convince us of, or kids are really good at seeing thru BS. I know political spin doesn’t work well on kids, they tend to hear the intent of words, not the W.O.R.M. In that way they’re smarter then most Obots.

John Kerry was up 12% in Nick’s poll. Obambi should have been up by 20% at least.

      • newton

“The Nickolodeon poll is really interesting. Kids are little marketing sponges, I mean Obama is the man, man. ”

I have no doubt whatsoever that the Obama campaign has even targeted the under-12 demographic in the hopes of attracting their parents to him. It’s about marketing and psychology here.

Think of the kids’ cereal boxes strategically placed on their supermarket aisles. Of course, candies and chocolate by the cash registers. It’s the same thing with Obama: he’s the “candy man”, the “ice cream man” “32 flavors”, whatever that may be attractive to kids.

McCain, however, reminds kids of their (Yuck!) grandpa’s or great-grandpa’s. They buy the candies and ice cream, but will they be cool about him playing with them at the park? Never mind that his kids mean the world to him, and that they have a lot of pets (20, according to one report). I’m an animal lover (9 cats) with 2 kids: he’s a guy I relate to.

But many kids can fall into the “selfish and cruel” categories: they see McCain handling himself at his age (of course, the effects of his five-year torture are not what matters to any kid) and just want to leave him alone. Many of them would rather play basketball at their front yards or soccer at the park with “Uncle” Obama.

It’s all about marketing and psychology. The younger they can get them to convince their parents to vote for their guy, the better for the DNC.

    • jrterrier

there’s a report that rendell is telling obama to come back to PA because he’s afraid that he’s going to lose the state. if it’s true that rendell sees it that way, then i believe O’s in trouble. there is no more savvy politician in PA.

there was also a story, that O’s internal polls show that he’s only up by 2 in PA.

“African Press International is supposed to support Africans and African-American view,” she reportedly said. “It is strange that API has chosen to support the racists against my husband. There is no shame in being adopted by a stepfather. All dirt has been thrown onto my husband’s face and yet he loves this country. My husband and I know that there is no law that will stop him from becoming the president, just because some American white racists are bringing up the issue of my husband’s adoption by his stepfather. The important thing here is where my husband’s heart is at the moment. I can tell the American people that my husband loves this country and his adoption never changed his love for this country. He was born in Hawaii, yes, and that gives him all the right to be an American citizen even though he was adopted by a foreigner.”

Can someone tell me how the below are even natural English phrasings ?

“All dirt has been thrown onto” … XYX’s face
“Gives him all the right to be a citizen”
      “American white racists”
      “Africans and African-American view,”

MO is a highly polished professional and political wife, she knows what she’s doing. For her to pepper a rant with hot-button code words like “racist,” “stepfather,” “adoption,” and “citizen” on the eve of a winning candidacy to a fringe media outlet would be COMPLETELY out of character.

Go back and compare the above with any speech or interview ever published. This entire text is stylistically and linguistically glaringly off key.

i don’t believe this african press story. i just don’t think michelle is that stupid or careless at this stage in the campaign to be saying anything like this. i hope this isn’t a set up like was done to dan rather with the bush national guard papers that discredited him.

Even if the foreign money interest succeed in buying one election, they wouldn’t try it again, right?

They already are. Campaign contributions from overseas are in the millions. The FEC has not addressed this. Someone needs to. The zip code of 00000 has generated millions for Obama. We have 300 mil people in this country. Half are Repub, 10-20% are disgruntled Hillcrats and the rest for “that one.” Do the math. Something smells.

      Thanks for this link,

      I have a question….

Charles Payne, Sen Obama’s great uncle who lives in Chicago and who is quoted in article (whose link you forwarded to us above) ..

Is this the same Charles Payne as written up in Wikipedia.Com

If so….I am stunned…absolutely stunned…that this has not been brought out in public yet…

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_M._Payne

      Charles M. Payne

      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles M. Payne, Jr. is an American academic whose areas of study include civil rights activism, urban education reform, social inequality, and modern African-American history.

      Education and Career

Charles Payne received a Bachelor’s Degree in Afro-American studies from Syracuse University in 1970 and a Ph.D in sociology from Northwestern University in 1976[1]. He has held professorial positions and endowed chairs at numerous American institutions, among them Southern University, Williams College, Haverford College, Northwestern, Duke University, where he held the Sally Dalton Robinson Chair for Teaching Excellence, and the University of Chicago, where he is currently the Frank P. Hixon Distinguished Service Professor in the School of Social Service Administration[2].

Payne has also been active in the creation and direction of several organizations intended to address issues of social justice. He is the founding director of the Urban Education Project in Orange, N.J., a community-based effort to provide advanced career training for local youth. While at Duke, he co-founded the John Hope Franklin Scholars, a program that helps Durham-area high schoolers prepare for and apply to college[3]. His other projects have included the Duke Curriculum Project, the Education for Liberators Network, and work with the Chicago Algebra Project and the Committee for the Consortium on Chicago School Research.

Payne was an outspoken advocate of the controversial Education Buyout Initiative[4]. EBI would have paid underachieving students to leave school and to enter the workforce. This would have allowed teachers to focus their attention on higher-level students while allowing the others to make their future now.

He is currently in the process of publishing So Much Reform, So Little Change (Harvard Education Publication Group) and an anthology about the African-American tradition of education for liberation entitled Teach Freedom (Teacher’s College Press)

Great post, but it’s the MSM’s job to help us out with finding NECESSARY information. They have been bought buy the O, and as my partner says, “the fix is in.”

Besides all the work they did to investigate and tarnish Joe the Plumber, they sure have been busy screwing with Governor Palin. Just today, there’s a new AP Investigation article out about her children traveling with her on the Alaska state budget. Jeez.

The slant of these organization is so transparent, it’s sickening. I would post a link, but I’ve had trouble doing that in the past here at NQ. Following is the article:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.
The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.
In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters’ 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.
Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor’s children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business.
As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters — Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 — by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor’s schedule.
But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend.
Several other organizers said the children merely accompanied their mother and did not participate. The trips enabled Palin, whose main state office is in the capital of Juneau, to spend more time with her children.
“She said any event she can take her kids to is an event she tries to attend,” said Jennifer McCarthy, who helped organize the June 2007 Family Day Celebration picnic in Ketchikan that Piper attended with her parents.
State Finance Director Kim Garnero told The Associated Press she has not reviewed the Palins’ travel expense forms, so she could not say whether the daughters’ travel with their mother would meet the definition of official business.
After Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain chose Palin his running mate and reporters asked for the records, Palin ordered changes to previously filed expense reports for her daughters’ travel.
In the amended reports, Palin added phrases such as “First Family attending” and “First Family invited” to explain the girls’ attendance.
“The governor said, ‘I want the purpose and the reason for this travel to be clear,’” said Linda Perez, state director of administrative services.
When Palin released her family’s tax records as part of her vice presidential campaign, some tax experts questioned why she did not report the children’s state travel reimbursements as income.
The Palins released a review by a Washington attorney who said state law allows the children’s travel expenses to be reimbursed and not taxed when they conduct official state business.
Taylor Griffin, a McCain-Palin campaign spokesman, said Palin followed state policy allowing governors to charge for their children’s travel. He said the governor’s office has invitations requesting the family to attend some events, but he said he did not have them to provide.
In October 2007, Palin brought daughter Bristol along on a trip to New York for a women’s leadership conference. Plane tickets from Anchorage to La Guardia Airport for $1,385.11 were billed to the state, records show, and mother and daughter shared a room for four nights at the $707.29-per-night Essex House hotel, which overlooks Central Park.
The event’s organizers said Palin asked if she could bring her daughter.
Alexis Gelber, who organized Newsweek’s Third Annual Women & Leadership Conference, said she does not know how Bristol ended up attending. Gelber said invitees usually attend alone, but some ask if they can bring a relative or friend.
Griffin, the campaign spokesman, said he believes someone with the event personally sent an e-mail to Bristol inviting her, but he did not have it to provide. Records show Palin also met with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs representatives and visited the New York Stock Exchange.
In January, the governor, Willow and Piper showed up at the Alaska Symphony of Seafood Buffet, an Anchorage gala to announce winners of an earlier seafood competition.
“She was just there,” said James Browning, executive director of Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, which runs the event. Griffin said the governor’s office received an invitation that was not specifically addressed to anyone.
When Palin amended her children’s expense reports, she listed a role for the two girls at the function — “to draw two separate raffle tickets.”
In the original travel form, Palin listed a number of events that her children attended and said they were there “in official capacity helping.” She did not identify any specific roles for the girls.
In July, the governor charged the state $2,741.26 to take Bristol and Piper to Philadelphia for a meeting of the National Governors Association. The girls had their own room for five nights at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel for $215.46 a night, expense records show.
Expense forms describe the girls’ official purpose as “NGA Governor’s Youth Programs and family activities.” But those programs were activities designed to keep children busy, a service provided by the NGA
to accommodate governors and their families, NGA spokeswoman Jodi Omear said.
In addition to the commercial flights, the children have traveled dozens of times with Palin on a state plane. For these flights, the total cost of operating the plane, at $971 an hour, was about $55,000, according to state flight logs. The cost of operating the state plane does not increase when the children join their mother.
The organizer of an American Heart Association luncheon on Feb. 15 in Fairbanks said Palin asked to bring daughter Piper to the event, and the organizer said she was surprised when Palin showed up with daughter Willow and Bristol as well.
The three Palin daughters shared a room separate from their mother at the Princess Lodge in Fairbanks for two nights, at a cost to the state of $129 per night.
The luncheon took place before Palin’s husband, Todd, finished fourth in the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race, also in Fairbanks. The family greeted him at the finish line.
When Palin showed up at the luncheon with not just Piper but also Willow and Bristol, organizers had to scramble to make room at the main table, said Janet Bartels, who set up the event.
“When it’s the governor, you just make it happen,” she said.
The state is already reviewing nearly $17,000 in per diem payments to Palin for more than 300 nights she slept at her own home, 40 miles from her satellite office in Anchorage.
Tony Knowles, a Democratic former governor of Alaska who lost to Palin in a 2006 bid to reclaim the job, said he never charged the state for his three children’s commercial flights or claimed their travel as official state business.
Knowles, who was governor from 1994 to 2002, is the only other recent Alaska governor who had school-age children while in office.
“There was no valid reason for the children to be along on state business,” said Knowles, a supporter of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. “I cannot recall any instance during my eight years as governor where it would have been appropriate to claim they performed state business.”
Knowles said he brought his children to one NGA event while in office but didn’t charge the state for their trip.
In February 2007, the three girls flew from Juneau to Anchorage on Alaska Airlines. Palin charged the state for the $519.30 round-trip ticket for each girl, and noted on the expense form that the daughters accompanied her to “open the start of the Iron Dog race.”
The children and their mother then watched as Todd Palin and other racers started the competition, which Todd won that year. Palin later had the relevant expense forms changed to describe the girls’ business as “First Family official starter for the start of the Iron Dog race.”
The Palins began charging the state for commercial flights after the governor kept a 2006 campaign promise to sell a jet bought by her predecessor.
Palin put the jet up for sale on eBay, a move she later trumpeted in her star-making speech at the Republican National Convention, and it was ultimately sold by the state at a loss.
That left only one high-performance aircraft deemed safe enough for her to use — a 1980 twin-engine King Air assigned to the public safety agency but, according to flight logs, out of service for maintenance and repairs about a third of the time Palin has been governor.

The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?”

FOR ALL YOU YOUNG OBOTS…GET READY TO SERVE FOR A DRAFT MAY BE COMING:

    Quote:
WOODRUFF: Senator Obama, one of the, of course, enormous consequences of 9/11 were the wars in Afghanistan and then Iraq. In the wake of those wars, today, the United States military is facing enormous challenges. Junior officers are leaving the Army in record numbers. The recent graduates of West Point leaving the Army.

What would you do as president to make serving and staying in the military more attractive to young men and women?

OBAMA: Well, first of all, as commander-in-chief, my job is to keep America safe. And that means insuring that we’ve got the best military on Earth. And that means having the best persons in uniform on Earth. We have that right now, but as a consequence of these wars, they have been strained incredibly. I think it’s important for us to increase the size of our Army and our Marines so we can reduce the pace of tours that our young men and women are on…

But it’s also important that a president speaks to military service as an obligation not just of some, but of many. You know, I traveled, obviously, a lot over the last 19 months. And if you go to small towns, throughout the Midwest or the Southwest or the South, every town has tons of young people who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s not always the case in other parts of the country, in more urban centers. And I think it’s important for the president to say, this is an important obligation. If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some…

And by the way, we will deploy you in some difficult areas, but that’s part of what it means to be an American and to serve and to sacrifice…

And so, I think a president who is consistently asking for young people to reach for something higher, something bigger than themselves, I think, will get enormous response.

I don’t think it’s “our value system” so much as it is an egomaniacal attention whore installed for someone else’s agenda spending unGodly amounts of cash to try and bury his oppposition and complete his mission that so many untold low-lifes are paying for.

So we’re basically headed for a national or international crisis if he gets in, his own running mate even tells us this and it actually makes the msm, he STILL HASN’T VERIFIED his citizenship…how long can it possibly take to whip out a BC and squash it…seriously ?!?, he skipped the national anthem the other day, consorts with terrorists and other unsavory people, tells outright lies and manipulates words concerning his opponent, the very same opponent who has used NOTHING BUT FACTS his entire campaign, he buries a guy for asking a question, then makes fun of him for it, berates women and pays them considerably less than male members of his staff, now he some how pulls 150 mil out of his ass while the very country he’s running for president in is suffering and on the verge of economic collapse, he’s spent close to if not more than a billion dollars…a billion dollars…that’s more money than all of us put together on this site will ever see in our lifetime, and he just spent it in a couple of months…..good fucking grief man, how, how, how, can anyone, I mean any single person justify voting for this man? how? Every day, every single day something new turns up that puts his candidacy in question, and people still want this guy elected?!?

I’m too the point where I don’t care about some tape, I don’t care what he said she said, I don’t care how horrible and vile this man is, all his shady past, all his current bullshit…I’m pretty much at the point now where if he gets elected then those people who wasted that vote on him get what they deserve, they fully and completely 1000% deserve what they get. I’m glad I didn’t vote for him as this man is building a karma train the likes of which I can’t even fathom, I’m glad I’ll be sitting at the station when it runs him over as he’s tied to the tracks.

The sucky part is not everyone wants him elected, and we’ll be suffering for other people’s ignorance should he actually get elected…ugh..lame.

Remember, this is the same msm that brought us the Iraq War; made fun of Gore for inventing the internet and sighing during debates that he won; trashed Kerry as an elitist flip-flopper and was rah rah for George W Bush TWO times. The only surprising thing this time is that Kos, Moveon, Huffpo etc are all part of the echo chamber.

Most of the money goes to the media. They are getting fat off his campaign. Nader is right–until we get money OUT of politics it will continue to be corrupted. I have some hope that McCain will actually try for more campaign finance reform with this pal Feingold if he wins.

  • Susan B.

Just in case some of you out there do not know this, but after the primary season (when Obama was SELECTED, not elected by the DNC), the DNC headquarters moved to Chicago. There is no DNC. It is all Barack Obama. All monies that used to go to the DNC go directly to him. He controls the purse-strings and that is how he is able to tell us he has amassed $150,000,000 in Sept. alone (not to mention contributions from people in foreign countries and maxed out credit cards from dead people in Illinois). That is how he was able to buy some super-delegates to vote for him in the “phony roll call” in Denver. That is how he controls everything that is going on in the democratic party these days. For someone who calls himself a “different kind of politician”, wonder where he learned all these old mob style tactics?! Short on resume, long on dirty tricks and deception.

Obama has raised $600,000,000 SO FAR.

If health care coverage costs $10,000 per person), the money Obama has raised SO FAR could cover 60,000 people.

If it costs $2000 to give a soldier the best possible protection (e.g. bullet-proof protection, good headgear, vehicle protection), the money Obama has raised SO FAR could protect 300,000 soldiers.

If it costs $1000 to supply a teacher with the best possible equipment, books, and supplies to teach her children (so she doesn’t have to do it out-of-pocket, as most teachers do), the money Obama has raised SO FAR could help 600,000 teachers.

If it costs $50,000,000 dollars to repair or build an apartment building for the residents of South Chicago, most of whom live in squalor because slum lords like Rezko, Jarrett, Davis and Davis’s son have exploited the taxpayers thanks to the legislative and advocating assistance of their friend and colleague Barack Obama, the money Obama has raised SO FAR could help build 12,000 apartment buildings.

It’s obvious that quality (McCain) is more important than quantity (Obama). Ever since Obama’s psychedelic carnival trip to Europe, Obama’s popularity has fallen sharply. After Obama’s selection of Biden as his sitter, the Republican convention, after the Palin selection, after the Russian-Georgia crisis, after the Bail-out crisis, after Biden’s foot-in-mouth several times AND after Joe the Plumber — Obama’s popularity has dropped precipitously.

I guess money can’t buy everything. McCain is too solid and too deserving.

    Obama, eat your heart out.

What I want to know is why a man who is supposedly so concerned about the poor and the middle class is using that money for charity. How does he justify to himself the blatant waste of money? Just recently, I have sent back begging envelopes from his campaing that I know must have cost him by now almost $10.00 in postage, not to mention printing costs.

I somehow can’t believe all his minions have so much money that they’ve been supporting him through the primary and now the election. It’s coming from somewhere it shouldn’t be coming from.

it is unbelievable to me how people actually believe Obama cares about the poor. All he cares about is keeping the poor ignorant, because as long as he keeps them poor and ignorant, they can be controlled. That is why it blows my mind when I hear intelligent people on tv buying in to this crap. He doesn’t care about anybody if people would just read about him and his time in Chicago, they will see he never ever helped poor people in any way shape or form.

Obama has not disclosed all of his doners. The “little guy” is only the tip of the iceburg. Then you have special interests and fat cats that he does not want to acknowledge. He’s also being really cheap “down ticket” and lots of his campaigners need to dig deep into their own pockets to run the activities that they are assigned. I can’t wait to tune out his 30 minute “commercial”.

Hey, votes don’t come cheap! Well, they’re paying “a cigarette and a dollar” per vote through ACORN for multiple registrations. At least according to one young man and woman who were recently interviewed and said that was their payment for allowing ACORN to register them over 75 times each.
