Return of the Tribbles

web-revtribble-2_bak_edited.jpg

Remember the Tribbles? Warm, fuzzy, cute thingies that almost destroyed the U. S. S. Enterprise?

For those who are not Trekkies, a brief history. Uhura is given a purring ball of fluff called a Tribble and brings it on board. Charming at first, Tribbles are “born pregnant” and eat constantly, causing them to multiply to the point where they ate all the quadrotriticale grain that Captain Kirk is supposed to be guarding on its way to a space station.

Whereas the analogy to the Star Trek story breaks down eventually, I often think of some Obama supporters as Tribbles. Fun and even sometimes cute at first with all their peppy talk of hope and change, but soon becoming stiffling as their numbers grow, taking over with a ravenous appetite that devours everything in sight with no regard for civility and respectable manners.

Many supporters of other candidates, especially Hillary supporters, still feel chewed up. I guess this time Scotty can’t beam these fuzzballs to a departing Klingon ship, as he tells Captain Kirk, “They’ll be no tribble at all.” But, it makes for a nice daydream.

  • Snickers

Love your cartoon, Pat. I loved the Tribble episode on Classic Trek and also the one DS9 did going back into time. I loved the tribbles, but I find myself more than a little annoyed with the Bots, especially those in my family.

  • http://www.centristnetblog.com Geoff

The most amazing thing about OBama supporters is that the smart ones will concede that Obama is a flawed, lying socialist, but still support him.
    It’s tragic.

  • lililam

They are self-perpetuating nuisances, aren’t they? Although few if any would I call cute. They sure come out of nowhere, though, even to my small, backwoods hamlet, they have overwhelmed us. Help!

  • Ivory Bill Woodpecker

They don’t remind me of the tribbles, but rather of the Borg.

However, resistance is fertile, and we will not be assimilated.

Live Long and Prosper, IBW :)

I saw a couple flying an Obama kite today in the blue October sky in front of City Hall, yes. A man nearby was selling Obama t-shirts and paraphernalia. They were all such shiny happy people. It’s an idyllic Obama world. Be afraid.

  • Northwest rain

And so often the ONLY reason they can give for supporting him — because of his “wonderful” voice.

I suppose a lot of us are tone deaf??

    Another on target cartoon!!

  • Andrew191

Tribbles are the quintessential Obama supporters. They consume, but don’t produce anything but more tribbles. In fact, they represent the culmination of all statist forms of government, (socialism, fascism, and communism)i.e. a state that needs to fulfill all the needs of the individuals under rule of that state. The problem has always been that in a system of an expected but unearned comfortable lifestyle, the producers are soon outnumbered by the consumers. It always falls apart, and usually in a blood bath. When people become tribbles, Orwell will have been forgotten.

  • Andrew191

We’re not tone deaf, we have perfect pitch! Solidarity in our belief that Obama is a potential dissaster is the harmonic in our efforts.

  • Just_Saying

    Precisely!

    Pat,

Voted yesterday for McCain/Palin. About a ten mile drive from where I live to where I voted (this year). In that ten miles I seen probabely 40–50 McCain Palin signs and two Obama signs. The Obama signs didn’t even have Joe Biden’s name on them. Voted straight republican without even reading the names, A first but not a last.

I clicked your name and seen “Alamo–American War”. Did a double take and seen it was “Islamo American War”. LOL! But it reminded me of something I had heard on the news a few days ago. Some manufacturer (don’t know who or where) have put out dolls that talk. They say, “Islam is the light” and everyone was yelling for the dolls to be pulled from the store shelves. I only caught the tail-end of it but I did hear the doll say that.

    Some decent polling news:

    By Andrew Quinn

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democrat Barack Obama’s lead over Republican rival John McCain has dropped to 5 points, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Sunday.

Obama leads McCain by 49 percent to 44 percent among likely U.S. voters in the daily tracking poll, which has a margin of error of 2.9 points. Obama’s lead has dropped over the last three days after hitting a high of 12 points on Thursday.

“Things are trending back for McCain. His numbers are rising and Obama’s are dropping on a daily basis. There seems to be a direct correlation between this and McCain talking about the economy,” pollster John Zogby said.

Is anyone else really worried about Obama’s ability to put this election away with his “pretty” speech on Wednesday night.

With the polls rolling 3 days we won’t know until the weekend what the effect was and McCain would have 1 day to respond.

Very well timed on Obama’s part.

  • katmandu

I do not necessarily agree with this New Republic writer’s analysis of the candidates and their positions, but I share the agony he feels whenever he votes. I rarely have been without conflict when casting my ballot for the presidency. I wanted to share it with the many thoughtful readers of this blog, who strike me as people who think through their positions and don’t merely vote the way their parents did.

FTA: <strong As David Sedaris put it in The New Yorker:
“I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. ‘Can I interest you in the chicken?’ she asks. ‘Or would you prefer the platter of s—t with bits of broken glass in it?’

“To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.”

Well, to be honest, I’ve never much cared for chicken.

I want to be one of first people to bring to your attention something called “Sharia Banking”.. and with the poor state of the financial system and the potential that the US dollar will collapse, I thought it was important to raise this up.

Sharia Banking is a recent innovation of Jihad-engaging Muslim. On the surface it seems innocuous. It’s usually described as policies that conform to Islamic sensibilities and practices. The main thing usually said for it is about Islamic prohibition on Interest and how Sharia banking allows for ways for regular banks and Muslims to be compatible.

But it is more than that. Because people in the West are almost completely ignorant about Islam , People and Companies in the West who make deals with Big Islam do not understand the implications of what it means to be sharia-compliant.

Now remember to keep this in mind as America is bankrupt and our currency is at risk.. and the Middle East has a ton of money (even though oil prices have just collapsed again).

Sharia Finance is a vehicle through which non Muslim nations will be changed (that’s the goal) to conform to the eventual totality of Islamic law.

I had trouble posting this comment, but I had along with it two examples of this. I will try to make them a separate comment.

  • http://home.comcast.net/~vincep312 VinceP1974

There are several cases for example:

A black couple (I only bring up race because this story was from Black Enterprise magazine which since then made the story vanish for some reason) was going to open a Church’s Chicken at Boston’s airport. After the Franchise agreement was signed (a contract) but before the restaurant open, a Dubai-based Bank bought the entire Church’s Chicken chain.

Existing franchisees were told to cease forwarding royalties for any purchases of pork products but they would be allowed to keep selling them.

New franchisees however would be prevented from selling any pork food because it violates Sharia.

You know what really bothers me the most. Is that americans should be proud of having a pioneer woman run for POTUS. The mothers should be saying “look!you can do it too!” Just like the african americans folks could say to their kids “See! You can do it too! But, not with this guy! He is a radical, a bigot, has bad associations.” There are good black folks out there that can show the african americans that “they themselves can also get to this level.” But, instead they put a guy who (as far as information is concerned) didn’t have a woman from 18 years to when he finally married Michelle 20 years later. Paste up fake birth certicates, and want us to all have the equal amount of wealth. For the women who are teaching their children not to like Palin- I can tell you what they are teaching their children- “here..take this little pill…little girls like you at 13 might end up with a baby….sleep around and find the right guy…..here take a sip out of my beer….just don’t drink and drive…….here…take this ipod…here take this cell….sure…you can get a tattoe….a nose ring….

Yep….no wonder they don’t like Palin. She represent values and goodness, and that is something they lack.

Never happen in this country. Aren’t you forgetting that Yeshua rules here, and when it comes to Yeshua’s land, the Judeo-Christian will fight to death for it? Even the Ox Jews tried back in the 1921s to overpower the land with buying all the banks and trying to change the land- it didn’t work then and it won’t work in the future. For the Lord Yeshua is King of his holy land, America, and no-one will ever try-succeed, or come close to changing it.

Whatever you call it, check out what Congress is considering doing to your 401-K.

    http://www.investmentnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081012/REG/310139971/0/REG&ht=

Powerful House Democrats are eyeing proposals to overhaul the nation’s $3 trillion 401(k) system, including the elimination of most of the $80 billion in annual tax breaks that 401(k) investors receive.

House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller, D-Calif., and Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, are looking at redirecting those tax breaks to a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts to which all workers would be obliged to contribute.

Under Ms. Ghilarducci’s plan, all workers would receive a $600 annual inflation-adjusted subsidy from the U.S. government but would be required to invest 5% of their pay into a guaranteed retirement account administered by the Social Security Administration. The money in turn would be invested in special government bonds that would pay 3% a year, adjusted for inflation.

You may find yourself wondering what they mean by “a new system of guaranteed retirement accounts,” how it differs from Social Security, and why a 5% mandatory “contribution” only pays you back $600 a year.

I remember her arriving at the airport, wearing a western dress, happy to be in America. I was the only Anglo there.

Which is why, I suppose, a couple of years later, he trusted me enough to tell me that he’d gotten her to “take the veil.”

Sure enough, last time I saw them, she was wearing a tent, the burkha. Her eyes looked very sad.

I think the second coming is going to happen within decades… so as far predicting the future of people, nations, and government , I don’t think anyone is right.

    HOWEVER

I know I could be completely and utterly wrong. So I’m proceeding as if the world will go as it has always gone on. The rise and acceptance of Obama tells me that no matter what America of the past has been, it is not the same any more.

If tiny Israel is subjected to a war every decade, and terrorist bombings almost every day… and their God’s People (Try to find the same about America in the Bible , you can’t), then why should we expect God to so actively protect America from Islam?

We’re doing squat to protect ourselves. The State Dept and George Bush are allowing entire communities of Muslims to resettle here. It’s madness. ANd our govt shows no more understanding of the threat of Jihad then they did on 10 Sept 2001, the Democrats especially but not exclusively.

One of the most frequently used words by Muslim Arabs is “Inshallah” (Allah Willing or God Willing)

Muslims believe EVERYTHING has been pre-ordained. Thus if something doesn’t go their way they just shrug and say Inshallah.. if something goes their way, they smile and say Inshallah.

I don’t believe in Inshallah. I dont believe that America is magically protected from Islam.

Seriously, whatever happens on Nov. 4, the healing of this country is not going to happen in a long time. The sleeping giant (racism) has been poked, prodded, is angry and has a voracious appetite. Who knew the average voter could be so stupid? I always over-estimate the intelligence of Americans.

I guess the security of this country is secondary to give-aways. Soon here won’t be anything left to give away if Obama has his way.

  • galandrien

the tax ncrease is not socialist–its just stupid. It is what he plans to do with said taxes that is socialist.

Redistribution of the wealth is a socialist policy-giving to those who are “have nots” after taking from the “haves” spreading the wealth around to try and create equality. How about first we have an equality in work ethic, values, and effort put forth by the worker? Many of our “have nots” are also “work nots,” some because of bad circumstances, alot because of a lack in discipline and willingness to work hard.

Stop punishing those who are dedicated to what they do and work hard. They should not be the tools to drag the dredges of society forward. Success and prosperity is the reward to hard work. Stop trying to take it away–all you do is discourage people from succeeding and trying to achieve.

And by the way you are also contructing a class barrier which will isolate the moneyed elite. Essentially constructing a barrier that prevents new elite from coming into being. Small businesses will suffer from the highest corporate tax on the planet under Obama-this small increase makes the difference of employees benefits or a new employee–if they are unable to provide benfits or hire new employees they cannot produce more or earn more. It essentially caps our the earning potential.

All of Obama’s tax cuts are only for people who work or are recently unemployed. Why do you think he always says he’ll cut taxes for 95% of working Americans? Raising taxes by a few percent for those who can afford it, in order to make (for example) health care more affordable for everyone, is not an unreasonable thing. Don’t you think the health care system should be reformed? How do you expect to pay for it?

98% of small businesses won’t see tax increases under Obama’s plan.

Andrew, obviously you never saw the episode in question, otherwise you’d realize how far off you are in your analogy.
As was stated DURING THE EPISODE, the tribbles’ HOME planet was not constantly overrun with the little fuzzballs. There were plenty of predators to keep their numbers in check. Tribbles were removed from their natural habitat. The tribbles that wound up on both the Enterprise and the space station in the story were there as a result of a “businessman” who smuggled them off their native planet (which, as I recall, was within the bounds of the Klingon Empire). The businessman, unfortunately, wasn’t aware of the tribbles’ biology and what would happen when removed from their native habitat.
