faux fashion outrage over palin’s fancy frocks

The latest attack on Sarah Palin is that the RNC spent $150,000 on her campaign wardrobe.

For crying out loud…what is the *drama* all about? Haven’t people ever heard of Dress for Success? Look the Part, Be the Part.

Did they forget all the attacks on Hillary Clinton regarding her pantsuits, her cleavage, her hair, her makeup? Chris Matthews blathered on and on about her looks…

Do people really think that Sarah Palin doesn’t need fantastic clothes while campaigning? She has to compete with Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain! And they aren’t even running for office!

Michelle Obama struts around in Jimmy Choos … do people want Palin in Crocs? Michelle has the same designer as Oprah! Should Palin campaign in Made in China crap from Walmart? And, last I heard, Cindy McCain’s dresses are more expensive than my car.

Holy moley… this is such a silly attempt at distraction to get the attention off Biden and his…what did Obama call them? Rhetorical twirly whirlies? Rhetorical flitter flutters? Oh! No, it was *rhetorical flourishes*. (HA! how is that for *erratic*!)

But, this big story involves shoes, so I figured I would take the bait and write about it.

Governor Palin is *interviewing* for the second highest job in the country. Doesn’t everyone dress their best when going on an interview? Do you think that if she was dressed anything less than fantastic she would not be shredded in the media? She is dressing as a Vice Presidential candidate – an uniform, if you will. Heck, even people at McDonald’s get a uniform!

Sarah has to wear these clothes 24/7 for three solid months. She needs excellent quality to withstand the trail – especially considering she has had cameras shooting her from every angle, most noticeably the feet. There’s no scuffs allowed on the trail! There’s no loose threads, lost buttons or synthetics allowed on the campaign trail! (just ask Stacey and Colin!)

I was listening to all the pundits today, with their faux outrage, droning on about what a waste of money it is, how she claims to be a hockey mom, and this proves her not to be….blah blah (Mike Barnacle made a fool of himself this morning- it was laughable!)

I think the mere fact that they HAD to dress her proves that she is like a regular *jane* hockey mom. The lady had nothin’ to wear (as you can tell by looking at the photos).

And, this is not her *real* life right now. She is living on the campaign trail. If you don’t believe me, read what the *experts* had to say about it – Stylists: Palin’s fashion buys worth it.

But what kept crossing my mind, as they were talking about wasted money (remember, this was coming mostly from Obama supporters) were the images of faux Air Force Ones, and White Houses. Was that money well spent? The world’s largest display of ego? And I can guarantee you that those things cost more than her wardrobe.

I was bored today, so I had some fun with photoshop, and put together the little diddy posted below. Tell me, in comparison, do you really think her spending was over the top?

Anyway, you can go here for Obama’s total spend, and here to see McCain’s for a side by side comparisons of the budgets for both campaigns.

Now, a visual presentation. (Yes, I am a dork, but it was entertaining.)

(I hope this jpeg works, and you can click it, and see the detail!)

  • Hope Floats! Flush Twice!

The clothes will be auctioned off for charity when the election is over. It was funny watching Campbell Brown give a speech about sexism and double standards, though.

  • lazy Maverick

That’s for her and her whole family… right?

  • ritamary

You are right that if Sarah looked anything less than fabulous the Obamamedia would be raking her over the coals for that.

The ladies on Fox’s Strategy Room (streaming live over the internet weekdays) agreed that getting Sarah Palin those clothes was the right thing to do. They said there is a double standard for women in politics. Male politicians spend a lot of money for good clothes too but they are never criticized for it.

Also your jpeg works fine and it is very cute.

  • Undercover Black

I agree with you, American Girl. One thing I thought is that — unlike with male candidates and business suits — Gov. Palin probably can’t wear the same outfit twice on the campaign trail. That may be a particular burden of female.

The only reason the clothing issue has gained two days’ worth of media traction is because of “Joe the Plumber” and Team McCain’s current theme of blue-collar populism. The traction must be serious because Palin herself, as well as McCain, have felt the need to comment on the clothing issue… with less than two weeks to go in a race where Obama has pulled decisively ahead.

  • ritamary

Obama has NOT pulled decisively ahead, even though he has spent way more money. Just like in the primaries against Hillary, he just can’t close the deal. People do not like him.

  • dhelz

    Great post sara.

Who’s that young man in the picture with Gov. Palin?

  • HRocks

Sarah is not getting the wardrobe as a “gift”. Sarah is working her buns off campaigning for the White House. I think she should be allowed to keep some of her clothing.

This is “gaslighting” by the Obama camp. Take the focus off of Biden, Joe the Plumber, Lawsuits, etc.

  • AnninCA

I’m really out of it on this one. I keep chuckling thinking how thrify the RNC was on this.

150,000 grand to deck out an entire family?

    For this?

    That’s a deal.

  • Undercover Black

… he just can’t close the deal.

That’s last month’s talking point, ritamary. According to the latest polling, Obama leads McCain by DOUBLE DIGITS in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and Indiana.

Somebody must like him, wouldn’t you say?

  • QUEENIE

Lets start asking what it cost for the male sports broadcasters for the playoffs and world series ..shall we??????

  • QUEENIE

Opps meant to add ..for their wardrobe.

  • Annie

Sarah buys at those second hand clothing stores and shoe stores normally… as do a lot of people in middle America and some in New York too…. just guess how much a 5 thousand dollar dress costs in a good second hand store in Manhattan (Madison Avenue for instance).. a couple of hundred bucks and less depending on how long it has been hanging on the hanger. Lots of the elites buy second hand… ‘second hand rose’. Those are designer wear but normal (middle of the road) clothing costs about 10% of the original costs…figure it out… and Sarah is giving the clothing back to the RNC to be auctioned off and the money given to charity. I believe some of that money was probably to buy one of those suits for her First Dude – he looked particularly uncomfortable in one of them.

The whole discourse is to take away from the Hawaii thing and Joe the Plumber. And of course all those associates which America needs to know about. Let’s get back on track.

  • AnninCA

The polls are very confusing, even for his opposition.

I DO notice that those polls show a huge percentage of undecided.

I THINK……boy, that’s the key word…..I THINK the pollsters are already creating the reason why they were off.

Expected turn-out is the biggest reason.
New registrations, skewed by ACORN? easy scapegoat.

    Unanticipated Republican turn-out.

A public that no longer responds to pollsters….probably the biggest reason.

People who have posted here that they lie to pollsters are speaking frankly, I think. They are honestly scared that the pollsters will reveal their information and harass them in some way.

I think that’s a factor this year in polling.

At this point? People are being over-polled.

  • QUEENIE

Obama is not in double digits in Pa so stop with the bs will ya!!..in fact he is almost tied ..and McCain is surging ahead in Fla..and very close in Ohio..thise are states if McCain wins he wins the electoral vote.

  • lmatta

When will the Obama and Michelle tapes become available to the public from the African Press International. I heard Fox News was going to receive them–did they? They mentioned many terrible things about us, The American People. When a man is running for the highest office in our land, he needs to be proud of America and her Great People or he should bow out and live in some other country. He also has to be truthful about all the answers he gives when asked. We’re still waiting for the answers and the elections only 11 days away—what gives. I love this country and I’m an immigrant, now a proud citizen since 1973- My parents couldn’t wait to become Americans -I don’t like Socialism or Communism. It makes you die young, without a spirit to live and thrive. Long Live John McCain and Sarah Palin-True Americans with True Grit. They truly care about Our Country and the American People First, the rest of the world second. The way it oughta be
You betcha;) and God Bless America

  • alibe4Hillary

I will bet you Nobama spends about $10,000.00 per custom tailored suit. and I bet his shoes are in the $700 to $1000 range.

  • anon

150 grand on clothing strikes me as absurd. Even if I had sufficient money to do so without a second thought about the cost, it would still strike me as absurd. What I really wonder about, though, is why no consideration was given to how this would play to the average voter, who would likely consider a $500 suit ostentatious.

  • Patience

A [former] friend remarked to me that Gov. Palin was “K-mart white trash”. No doubt she’s now complaining about the nice new wardrobe. Women can be so jealous, almost as jealous as Obama is. Poor guy, he can’t even buy the presidency with $700M to play with.

Sarah deserves it — she’s been working her fanny off.

  • jwrjr

Somebody DOES like Obama – The MSM and the pollsters. The average citizen does not like the way the Obama bin Biden campaign is beating up on Joe the Plumber … and especially Palin. The pollsters are carefully avoiding those average citizens so that their narrative doesn’t get disrupted by mere facts.

  • AnninCA

Luckily, nobody in my world is talking about this one.

    It’s just too stupid.

  • the new dope

Why doesn’t the msm just come out and say:

” you know what? we got nothin’, we were supposed to be leading by a buhzillion points all over the place, nobody was supposed to care about all the nifty background info. on barry…oops barrack, we’ve tried and we’ve tried so we threw this clothing thing out there…but really..we got nothin’, gosh gee willy zonkers, I hope nobody remembers all this after the 4th or we’re screwed….guess I’ll go back to delivering pizza’s or somethin’..”

I’m so tired of this, given the choice between spending thousands of dollars on clothing or on extravagant foods, I’m pretty sure I’d pick clothes, at least that way I’d have something left to show for it, and not be flushing it down the toilet a few hours later. How quickly everyone forgets how barry is spending millions and millions and millions, his blingfest trumps Palin’s wardrobe by a couple of hundred lives worth of salaries.

  • DJ

I was wondering a few weeks ago… whether Palin owned enough appropriate clothing for the 2 months or so of nonstop campaigning, fundraisers, interviews. Obviously not. This just highlights the fact that she *is* an “average joe” and not personally wealthy like the Obamas, Clintons, McCains. The MSM and whatnot want to say Palin is elitist, why don’t they all release their credit card statements/buying history (yes… Obamas, Bidens, McCains, Clintons, Pelosi, Palins…). Which one will have a history shopping at Walmart? I’ll bet it’s Palin. As Obama might say, the MSM are just using this to distract voters from the real issues and questions about BO.

  • AnninCA

McCain has made it clear to the entire world that he’s not interested in winning by some sleazy racist ploy.

    To me, this spells integrity.

Either win on the ideas….or lose.

McCain isn’t the old Republican party.

He isn’t so power-hungry that he wishes to destroy the country to win.

I am truly attracted to him because of that stance.

He’s convinced me. He’s genuinely for our country.

None of them make all decisions that are great for us. That requires a crystal ball that isn’t possible.

But I CAN look at choices.

I respect this campaign a great deal. He has my full support, without caveats.

I applaud McCain and Palin for not getting involved in this type of politics.

Meanwhile, Obama’s election night party will cost the city of Chicago over 10x the cost of Palin’s wardrobe.

Daley puts Obama rally tab at $2 million

Mayor Richard Daley put the tab at $2 million today for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s Grant Park rally on election night.

Obama’s campaign is footing the bill.

Noting the city’s budget shortfall and planned layoffs of city workers, Daley said, “In this financial crisis, the city of Chicago could not afford $2 million on this.”

Daley said he would have preferred that the event were held indoors at the United Center, but he yielded to the Obama campaign’s wishes.

“Could you see me saying no to Sen. Obama?” Daley told reporters today. “Give me a break. I’m not that dumb.” …

  • http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com OBAMA IS A FRAUD

This is ridiculous and the best that the OHitler crowd can do? ROFLMAO. OHitler took 200 of his closest friends on the America Sucks World Tour. They stayed in the fanciest hotels and ate the fanciest food. And WE paid for it. Yup. The taxpayers. Not the campaign because he’s a Senator. Then there was that RIDICULOUS Toga Party for 100 Million bucks. The white carpet idiotic OHitler stood on cost 1 Million Dollars and can never be used again. OHitler and his ugly wife have shown they sure know how to spend cash. Bling, bling, bling. And they have the NERVE, after spending a BILLION DOLLARS to cross the finish line, to talk about Palin’s clothes? Come ON. Even all of the liberal leftie wing nuts have to do better than this. It’s just another pathetic attempt to smear the woman who is beating OHitler’s azz. As the above poster said…they are angry, bitter, mean folks. OHitler wasn’t even supposed to WORK for this one. He was supposed to sail into the White House with no problem. 20-30 points up by now is what I would imagine ole Howie and Nancy predicted. Joke’s on them. Nice try though. But no one will care about Palin’s wardrobe on November 4. But they will probably care that OHitler is a criminal, liar, socialist, phony, fraud, not eligible to run, thief, racist, sexist prick who should be deported.

  • AF catfish

I bet the RNC just assigned her a personal shopper, and said shopper bought the most expensive versions of every suit, jacket, pair of shoes there were. Palin was thrust onto the national stage and there is no way she had time to look at the price tag of all these clothes.

  • AnninCA

    Real people get that.

And real people know…..this is a distraction story.

What sort of bothers me is that it’s an ISM story.

Women just are into clothes. She’s nothing but a barbie.

    but…..whatever….

It just is another example of sexism.

Obama campaign pays for most of the event, but not all. Even WGN radio news reported that the city of Chicago tax payers will foot the bill for for items such as street closures, crowd control, motorcade, and overtime for police. I thought the article would talk about this.

    Barky is high maintenance.

  • dpvegas

He’s tied with McCain here in Nevada, and we will be doing our part to try to make sure that he won’t get our 7 little electoral votes.

And how much did we Democrats pay for MEchelle’s big makeover? Remember, the one she paraded on “The View” with those people gushing over her? And staying to the questions she demanded of them?

  • AnninCA

    LOL* That made me chuckle.

    True.

  • SensibleWomanNOTforBO

The “average” American voter, particularly women IMO, DOES understand the importance of image and the cost of it for such a high office in the government of the greatest country in the world. :-)

I certainly do and I’m a woman that has worked in several different corporate environments in several different industries, all of which called for a different type of dress than the others.

So, good grief, are we going to have to listen to all the silly criticism we heard when Senator Clinton was the First Lady? I HATED how they treated her then and I HATE how they are treating Gov. Palin now. The more they say the more DETERMINED I am to support her and do my part to work to get her elected.

As Obama has stated numerous times, let’s move on from silly season and BACK to the issues…you know…the one about WHO is going to control where MY hard earned money goes.

  • candy

I totally agree. This is so absurd! My thought is also that Palin doesn’t even own a wardrobe required for running for national office. She is not super wealthy like the Bidens and the Obamas. Give the woman a break! This is nothing but nasty trashing of her and it’s totally repulsive.

I too agree that if she didn’t look good and presentable the MSM would have had a field day tearing her apart on looks alone.

  • AnninCA

Oh good, another soul who laughs at this story.

I think Cindy pulled off a miracle for just that amount.

It’s a brutal form of class warfare. The media would love it if Sara had lived in a mobile home in the past or if she or her family had ever received a dime from social services. They would be saying “former welfare recipient and trailer trash, Sara Palin who is currently running for VP……..blablabla.

Other people already had their wardrobes together because of social class benefits and/or stealing from the taxpayers. Considering how much designer clothing costs, Sara has once again showed how well she can manage money. And, the women on the newscasts and in the DNC cabal are jealous because no amount of money spent on clothing, would ever result in them looking like her.

Katy Couric is getting that look of too much cosmetic surgery too. Someone should tell her the mini suits looks more becoming on young girls than women her age. In a few years she and Pelosi can volunteer for the SF wax museum. Now, there is a job they are qualified to handle. I don’t want to leave the guys out of my diatribe. Maybe the members of the DNC elite can get a group price; Howard Dean screaming… Pelosi with her eyes popping out of her eyes from a Botox OD. Chris Matthews with his “tingled” leg held up in the air.

If we want to talk about squandering money let’s also talk hairplugs, jaw implants and nerve surgery. We won’t mention the lobotomies but they are obvious.

  • AnninCA

True, true……..so much for the liberal myth that Republicans are so disciplined, eh?

I have no interest in the NY TIMES mag.

Don’t get me started on that hideous logo on his campaign plane. That paint job cost $50,000 by the way. Yeah, yeah, we KNOW he hates AMERICA and, like his friend Ayers, likes to piss on the Flag. That’s what I was thinking when they first announced her for the ticket. I know that she doesn’t have the money to buy that kind of wardrobe, and for the whole family. And when I heard that it was for the family, I thought they did good.

How much did Barky and MEchelle spend at the Waldorf for her little snack of lobster, Iranian caviar, and whatever else?

Barky’s campaign’s spent almost 4 times as much just on food.

  • IndieDogg

Okay, here’s the whole story about this, which the Dems have been trying to keep quiet.

You see, Todd Palin, before becoming a championship snowmobile racer, back in the day, used to race bobsleds, like everybody else. When the snowmobile came along, it went a lot faster and some people, like Todd, thought it was more exciting and decided to switch over.

However, what he hadn’t realized was that being a dog on a dog sled team was a union job (UMA / United Mushers of America) so he couldn’t just fire the dogs, even though they didn’t need them any more. Even though he’d offered to set them up with new jobs, as voter fraud sniffers (with an old ACORN as a clue), except they found out nobody really cared about voter fraud so they tried to latch on with HSA (Homeland Security) as drug sniffers but they were from Alaska and nobody in Washington knew anybody from Alaska so nobody trusted them, since they’d never seen them at the Old Ebbets Grill talking to attractive Congressional interns.

So, the dogs couldn’t get jobs and Todd couldn’t fire them because they were union so he’s still got them and they’ve become friends of the family. Some have suggested that they have become a source of warmth and comfort for Todd on long winter nights while his wife, the Governor, is out being a bad mommy trying to run the world and all that and speculation has it that this is one explanation for the Palin children’s kind of funny sort of names. Track? Like track in the snow? Like dog track? See? Makes sense.

But that has nothing to do with the clothing budget. You see, these are union dogs. So, they have uniforms. And, since they’re required to wear these uniforms (basically fur, mixed colors, mostly black, some grey), they’re a part of the job and the employer must supply them.

So, you see, and I know this is BIG and I hope it doesn’t derail the Sarah Palin Express that’s steamrolling what’s their names, but the wardrobe budget is a combined total, for all staff.

It’s basically a new vest for Sarah, because hunting season’s starting up and she didn’t have the right vest and color for hunting down the roving male mysoginist, this year’s prize hide. And some booties for the kids who normally have to walk barefoot 10 miles in each direction through the snow to school. And the rest was for new outfits for the dog sled team.

I know. Scandalous. But, I believe the truth shall set you free.

And B.S. will only make you smell funny.

    So, there you have it.

    Breaking news.

By the way, this reminds me of that old saying, for some reason: On a dog sled team, as in life, the scenery only changes for the lead dog!!

    Stand up!!!!

(No, not the dogs, just the people).

  • kgirl1028

  • http://firefox McAnnie Carmel Baracuda

I think she should be able to keep all of it. She will need to continue to look her best as VP and who is going to buy used shoes at an auction? She’s wearing the classic suits and jackets over and over.

As I said earlier, it isn’t as though those clothes will fit Joy Behar. They have been tailored to fit her and she looks great. No, she should keep them. Remember when Nancy Reagan was gifted with all those expensive clothes by American designers? The RNC can gift them.

Sarah will need a formal gown for the ball too, shoes and a wrap. And a different suit, coat and gloves for the swearing in. It’s cold in DC in January.

In a world where people get laid off at age fifty because their health care costs more than for younger people it’s not surprising they do this. People are going to have to have a lot of cosmetic surgery to last until age 75 (the soon to be retirement age.) They need to do something about hands though. It will be weird when somebody who looks hot and 38 hands you a check and their hands are skeletal.

  • Tom K.

All right. I hope I don’t bore you all with this, but here’s a letter I just wrote to CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. They’re trumpeting their outrage about Palin’s clothing.

    To whom it may concern:

I’m a registered Democrat with no huge love for Republicans, but even I think your attack on Sarah Palin for the clothing that was purchased for her goes beyond your mandate and enters into the arena of shrill partisanship.

Of course Joe Biden doesn’t need suits, he’s probably got closets full of them, being that he wears one every day. The same goes for the other two senators in the race and their wives, all of whom are part of the well-heeled Washington establishment—I imagine between them, they could dress, straight from their closets, all the guests at a rather large wedding.

Gov. Palin and her family, however, were plucked out of Alaska with little advance warning, and likely didn’t have time for a big shopping trip beforehand. And I imagine from what we know of the Palin family that they haven’t got closets full of formal attire. So obviously these clothes would not have been purchased for their personal use but rather for official use on the campaign trail. And so this would not likely violate the law. I don’t imagine Todd, Track, and the others are going to be riding their snowmobiles in the dark suits and dresses they’ve been wearing to official events. So then how are you claiming that these are for personal use when they’re clearly only being worn on the campaign trail–a sort of work uniform, if you will.

Gov. Palin and her family are on the road in a different city every few hours. I’m sure that leaves little opportunity to drop suits off at the drycleaner to pick up later. So she and her husband and family must have a supply on-hand to meet these needs. It’s unlikely she’s got much time for shopping herself, and it’s also unlikely that her wardrobe at home would have been sufficient for the campaign trail, where she needs a fresh suit a couple of times a day I imagine. Although it appears that in the past she has usually been well dressed for her official duties, she does not appear to be a clothes horse by any measure.

And another point that I’m sure is well known by at least some members of your staff: many of these clothes will likely never be worn and will be returned to the stores from which they were purchased. This is a very common practice, of which I’m sure you’re also aware. Many more items than will be kept in the end are purchased for the client and brought for his or her approval. Like I said, those that aren’t selected are returned. So the eventual bill will be much smaller than reported.

These things are all very clear to me, so I imagine they are also clear to you. And the fact that you aren’t making all these facts clear lets me know that this is all about stirring up bad press for the opposition, to benefit your chosen candidate—another small smear to add to the countless others that have been perpetrated by the Democrats this year, in an election season that has made me so ashamed of my party that I don’t think I can continue to consider myself a member. This whole stunt just reeks of political opportunism and sexism–again.

Your group is an embarrassment to nonpartisan political watchdog organizations everywhere.

  • Undercover Black

Yes, my friend, keep hope alive. Are you expecting McCain to win? Really and truly? GREAT! All the more deep and throbbing will be the pain when you come to grips with the tsunami that everyone else sees coming. Have plenty of Kleenex on hand. I don’t think you’ll be able to contain your emotions.

Oh, and when it comes to “REAL numbers,” try checking the Real Clear Politics website.

  • AnninCA

    I disagree.

I have no interest in joining any party that uses the race card to win.

That’s why I moved to McCain.

    If he pulls that….

Then it’s easy enough to me to decide that there is no virtue anywhere.

I’ll probably move back to Democrat. Techically, they may be closer to my views.

The only reason I’m now Republican is due to McCain and Palin’s strong message and the refusal to engage with race issues.

  • JML

Word. Campaigning for VP is one of her jobs right now.

Even your local anchors on TV newscasts get clothing allowances as part of their salary.

I have no problem with the RNC spending money to outfit their VP candidate appropriately for debates, rallies and interviews.

So either get the message…….or don’t.

It has taken so very long for women to get our chance – and it seems that whenever one does, she has to taken more scrutiny and ridicule and criticism than men ever do – and she better never dare respond with anything less than perfect grace or she’ll be pummeled again for her attitude. Sarah Palin has shown incredible poise under this continual assault from Democrats and their stooges in the media. Between the sexism and the elitism, the Democratic Party has managed to offend a huge segment of the country and in the process, lost many former members. McCain-Palin will be our revenge.

  • Beal

News reports yesterday discussing why McCain was spending so much time in PA if he was so far behind stated that it was leaked that Obama campaign internal polling showed Obama with only a 2 point lead. That certainly explains why McCain would spend time there. The polls are all over the place and as unreliable as they were during the primary season.

The clothes are the non-issue issue. Similar to Obama’s plethora of “PRESENT” votes, the cooked up controversy over Sarah Palin’s clothing seems equally meaningless. For months now, I have had no doubts about what kind of snake Obama is, but this latest absurd attack on the price of Palin’s wardrobe cements my opinion regarding his devotees. They abandon all integrity when they feign indignation over price tags. The more I think about this, the more absurd this whole story becomes.

Obama made sure Rezko, slumlord, got lots of taxpayer money. What was this money for? To help restore the buildings in Chicago public housing. Rezko, a man who helped Obama buy his mansion, took this money and did nothing. Hence the federal indictment charges and conviction.

Obama got a mansion out of the Rezko deal, The poor black folks got zip.

What is it about that you don’t understand? But I guess you’re okay with that.

The Bidens aren’t super wealthy that title belongs to Cindy McCain. You can certainly dress for success for a hell of alot less than $150,000.00 spent in two months.

If I’d contributed to the Republican Party and then learned they’d spent contributions to buy Palin’s seven year old daughter a Louis Vuitton handbag I’d be pissed.

  • Brendy

The Palin’s COMBINED income last year was $170,000 – minus $25,000 taxes and (I believe) $8,000 in charity. THAT is not very much money for a family of SEVEN (actually, I was shocked; I thought governors made MUCH MORE MONEY, and this total includes her HUSBAND’S income from HIS job)!

Besides, the Republican Party BOUGHT THE CLOTHES FOR HER! She probably didn’t have very many decent outfits to wear to begin with and the whole family needed ‘decent’ clothes; if they wore their everday outfits, they would have been LAUGHED OFF THE PLANET by their ‘elitist’ apponents and the ‘well-educated’ Obama supporters and last but not least – his UNEDUCATED, WELFARE RECIPIENT SUPPORTERS! Sarah’s out working for McCain while Obama WELFARE RECIPIENTS receive FREE FOOD, CLOTHES, MEDICINE and don’t have to WORK for a DAMN THING! THEY have their GALL to criticize Palin!!!!

Anyone who takes an honest and sincere look into Gov. Palin’s accomplishments as gov. will see that she has been a huge success. She has made it a priority to fulfill her campaign promises to the citizens of Alaska and they have rewarded her with the highest approval rating of all 50 gov. She’s negotiated building of the gas pipeline, renegotiated aggreements with oil co., reformed ethics laws, etc all within the first couple years in office while maintaining a happy family and marriage and having a baby to boot! Plus, she looks fabulous in her new clothes. The girls in the 2nd rate media outlets with their often shabby and sleazy looking outfits must be sickened with jealousy. Especially when they know that she has accomplished all this with a journalism degree from a college which they would never consider – and they are stuck in their little media positions reading their little prompters from behind their little desks day after day.

Gov Palin has a backbone and nerves of steel. They have thrown everything they can think of at her and she has deflected it all. They can’t break her and it is killing them. She is proving that she was the perfect choice to be President McCain’s VP. Both are mavericks. Neither will allow their spirits to be broken.

  • Tristan

I am sure the story is just as the MSM reported. I can’t imagine they would have anything disrespectful to say about a sitting governor and first Republican female VP nominee, would they? Not in America where both the press and the ordinary citizens may disagree on issues, but ultimately respect the office.

I’m sure here’s this is the deal. They got her 20 different power suits – lots of options and no ned to dry clean all the time – shoes, coats, etc, some nice jewelry and watches, some stuff for Todd’s appearances, some high-end makeup, and you end up with a number that sounds big to Joe Average, but is pretty reasonable for anyone who is expected to be doing 5 personal and media appearances a day for 12 weeks straight.

My first thought was about Michelle’s Jommy Choo’s. Because I one day dream of owning a pair, I know they range right up there in the $500-$1,000 area. And I’m not going to believe Michelle only owns one pair of shoes. I was so mortified by what Michelle wore to one of the debates – you know, the one that looked like my grandmother’s sofa – that I tried to find out who the designer was. That pattern is similar to a dress by Carolina Herrera and also one by Prada, so I’m fairly sure MO didn’t pick it up at the local discount store. At least Sarah’s money was well spent. She looks fabulous. Michelle should strangle her stylist. And if she picks out her own clothes, the fashion police should put the cuffs on her and place her in solitary.

The entire campaign is about staging. The buses, the balloons, the flags, and banners and signs. It is all part of the package. They are *selling* a product. Her clothes, and the clothes for the family are a neccessary part of the whole story.

If people don’t *buy* the image, they won’t buy the product. Your dollars are being very well spent, in my opinion.

She looks FABULOUS, and that helps enourmously. That is why the DNC is pissed. They can’t knock her on her looks, like they did Hillary, because she looks fab, so they have to attack her on the price tag.

Personal shoppers also over buy, choosing tons of options, which allows their client to try everything on, and pick and choose what they keep.

It is SOOO not uncommon for a PS to spend thousands of dollars, and then return most/half of it. That is what they do.

I doubt Sarah Palin has been spending tons of hours at the mall.

The media is already lambasting her for being common. Do you think they’d pass up the chance to call her trailer park trash if she dressed less fashionably? I don’t think so.

  • Tattie

What’s better than the ads is having Palin herself out there in front of thousands of people wearing her beautiful outfits. This women can have my donated money anytime

  • Angry GOPer

The rock you crawled out from under this AM is calling you home.

I am not saying she should travel with you on Greyhound or that she should look like a slob. IMHO, that is your sick fantasy.

Wardrobe? In your world it no doubt means costume department. You are a clown.

  • trails

Wow. Great interview with Gov. Palin!

  • Angry GOPer

Have you donated to the campaign “goober”?

    My guess is no.

  • kenoshaMarge

The New York Times? The paper that’s so in the bag for Obama it had to do not one but two hit pieces on Cindy McCain? Who care what the Times says about anything anymore. They have lost all credibility.

Obama may win. I wouldn’t trust the polls to judge how close the two candidates are. They are so wrong so often.

And if you support Obama why aren’t you out ringing doorbells or phonebanking? Why are you trolling on an anti-Obama web site? Just another annoying little troll.

  • jj jo

you are the reason why the republican party is dying. republican fools like you eat their own while democrats laugh at you. you fall for a media distraction while obama commits more violations by the hour. go ahead and tear down palin like them and drag your knuckles back into your cave afterwards.

  • Tuppence 411

Yeah- let’s talk about those pearls! You know those HUGE things around her neck are real right? You know what is even WORST? She buys HUGE, colored pearls so we will all just assume it is costume jewlery- because hey, no one in public office could afford real golf ball sized rare black pearls, right?

  • cc

I agree…very good job on the montage. makes the point perfectly. how can anyone complain at all when those stupid greek columns alone cost what… 140,000?

  • Angry GOPer

i have a tiny brain and i fall for the tricks of the msm. buy your own clothes rich republican alaska lady. the msm told me you are filthy rich and shop at fancy stores and the msm told me to hate people who dress better than me. i think maybe the msm is right maybe i need to hate republicans.

  • Tuppence 411

The women of America better WAKE-UP. The focus on Governor Palin’s appearance is to lower the debate. Put the focus on her looks rather than her achievements. De-value her worth to eye candy. Wake-up!

  • POdVet

All of that is a non-issue anyway. We know how Palin is, she would most likely have the stuff sold off at an auction for charity anyway. And thats if it wasn’t her idea in the first place. We don’t KNOW who’s idea it was yet. She’s not and never has been a “flashy” person unlike MEchelle and Barack! I’d be willing to wager that MEchelle has ordered a custom designed gown for the “One’s” inauguration already, and billed it to the campaign at a cost of more by itself than the “to be auctioned later” wardrobe for the entire Palin family!

Now as far as the expensive purse etc. etc. for her kids, well the reason behind that is pretty clear to this hard core Democrat. Had they NOT done it, the MSM would be having headlines like “Palin wearing top designers while she dresses her kids in thrift shop quality knock offs.” You Obamatons truly have nore morals and no shame what so ever! We have seen how the game is being played this year, and we true Americans who put country 1st are NOT buying the BS anymore!

  • kenoshaMarge

McCain can’t close the sale because the Obamamedia does hit jobs on him 24/7.

McCain can’t close the sale because it’s supposed to be a Democratic year.

McCain can’t close the sale because he has the idiocy of George Bush hanging around his neck.

McCain can’t close the sale because the elites in his own party, plus some of the religious right still don’t trust him for his maverick ways.

Any generic Democrat should have been able to win this election walking away even without the Obamamedia touting him as the “One”.

Who knows, he may still win. But he will have fractured the Democratic Party beyond repaid in doing so and set back race relations and women’s rights for a generation. He’s brought change all right, and none of it good.

  • susan

Michele Obama bragged on the View that her black and white dress only cost $150.00, but what she neglested to mention was the cost of her lobster “snack” at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York…$447.00!!! And judging from the size of her obviously expanding waistline, how many of these expensive snacks does she consume in just one week, let alone an entire campaign. Costly, very costly appetite. See, we can resort to “just bitchy”, too!!!

  • Betty

Do I remember that rich donors bought Jackie Kennedy dresses while she was first Lady?

  • trails

I love it. Pat Buchanan ended his column concerning the media’s double standard over their coverage of Biden vs Palin with “You betcha.”

    Way to go!

  • susan

    Oops, that’s “neglected”.

  • Pennsylvania goes RED!

    He’s not so bright…

    “Wah-laa!”

  • Pennsylvania goes RED!

    You people are a joke.

Anyone who contributes to the RNC and isn’t happy can get their damn money back. Has anyone asked for a refund?

Did you ever consider with all the traveling Palin and her family are doing, they can’t bring their own personal dry cleaner with them, of course they will need NUMEROUS changes of clothing.

It’s not like they can stop at the laundromat in between rallys.

    Grow the eff up.

the 150k would have paid for 1 30 second time slot in mid afternoon

Her outfits have done a much better job of getting the message out because everybody wants to see her and how great she looks.

If they auction the outfits for charity they will make much more that the 150k and the charities will do much better too.

This was and is a great decision by the RNC/McCain folks and it is simply a means to distract people from the Biden blather.

    Focuc Pinky Foucs!

  • yttik

“….do people want Palin in Crocs?”

LOL, oh heck no, you put a pair of those things on and you can never take them off. They’re so comfortable (and so ugly) you can easily forget they’re on and climb into bed with them. Once you wear Crocs, you have to go to Croc detox just to break the habit.

  • Monet

I loved many of the suits I’ve seen Governor Palin in since Senator McCain added her to the ticket. However, $150k seems a bit excessive for a campaign wardrobe. How many suits, shoes and purses add up to $150k? That’s a three bedroom ranch home in many parts of the country.

Did it all come from Neiman Marcus and Bergdolf’s where a pair of pantyhose is over $50 and finding a pair of pumps under $300 is impossible? I think she could look professional and attractively tailored and well-dressed for under $50k if the personal shopper chosen for her had chosen less expensive clothing. They should have been able to provide her with thirty suits, a half dozen evening dresses, shoes, purses, jewelry, make-up, luggage, etc… for under $50k. And they might have had women flocking to Kasper, Ann Taylor, Pendleton, Karen Kane, Evan Picone, Lord & Taylor, etc… to buy the suits Governor Palin is wearing. A woman doesn’t have to be clad in Chanel to look good and win an election.

That said, if the McCain campaign thought a $150k was better spent on a wardrobe for Governor Palin than on courting the independent vote, who am I to argue.

    BOYCOTT THE NEW YORK TIMES
Lest we forget their shoddy journalism during the lead up to the Iraq war.

    http://moderate.wordpress.com/2008/01/27/busted-new-york-times-revises-own-history-on-iraq-war/

and this from Jack Schafer at Slate 8/29/2003

“No reporter was more go-go on the prospect of finding caches of unconventional weapons in Iraq than New York Times correspondent Judith Miller, who published numerous stories during the 18 months leading up to the war that supported allegations that Saddam Hussein was illegally developing, building, and storing chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Miller’s stories relied in great part on the testimony of Iraqi defectors, some of whom were provided to her by Iraqi National Congress leader Amad Chalabi and government officials such as Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul D. Wolfowitz and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, who believed their claims.”

NOW THEY’RE LEADING US INTO ANOTHER DISASTER!

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ American Girl in Italy

She tried to get designers to give her all her clothes for free. Once she selected an unknown, and chose several of his designs. He was ecstatic, it was a HUGE break for him. And then he was told she wouldn’t be paying for them. He had to tell her no, there was no way he could afford to give them to her. I can’t remember who it was… he is famous now.

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

i know! they are so comfy! but so unattaractive. I am a closet wearer – in home only. I bought some for my inlaws too. my MIL was always complaining about pain in her legs, standing on her feet ALL day. I made her try them, and she is SO much better!

  • ohio

Don’t know what polls in Ohio you are referencing, but I help do polling in Ohio and it is not leaning Obama. Not from everything I see. Voter fraud would make a difference here, but it would be the only thing to drag Obama over the line here.

  • ohio

Whatever, if I had donated to the Barky campaign, I’d be pissed because of all he has wasted on those greek columns and Michelle’s make-over. That had to have cost a fortune.

  • Mary Lou

but people aren’t pissed when their hard earned dollars end up buying a piece of a Greek Column for Obama’s coronation?
I for one don’t have any trouble determining which expenditure is more outrageous. High quality clothes for people in high profile positions is the norm, Parthenonesque backdrops, not so much.

  • winess08

Get wise folks, this is a non issue that the Obama operatives are toting. Their stategy to cause divisiveness among McCain supporters is pretty transparent. Focus on the goal! We’re getting side tracked by diversionary tactics.

  • Rob G in Chicago

The Obie’s are just jealous because their VP candidate looks like a worn out shoe, even in his Brioni suits. And MEshelle…well, I won’t get into those lipstick/porcine jokes this early in the morning.

  • tzada

What about her $600 earring remark too….

  • Kristen

Sara I loved the trolls HAHAHAHAH

  • BernieO

I heard that the money was for clothes for her family, not just her. I assume that they had to buy some suits for her husband and clothes for the kids when they appear at events.

I agree that this just shows Palin is a “regular mom”. There has not been a flap about Michelle or Cindy McCain because they alreadly own very expenive clothes.

The difference between Michelle and Cindy is that Cindy has been willing to put herself in harm’s way in order to help kids in places like Rwanda.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/22/AR2008072202114_pf.html

Compare that to Michelle’s whining about how hard she has it because she went to an expensive school and just has to give her kids expensive lessons:

    http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MmEyN2RkNzcwYzgyZDY2MDBiY2U5MjJlZGMwNDM2ODg

Can you picture Palin acting like that?

  • John Edwards’ Hair

Can we not talk about this?

  • DAB

I don’t believe that the clothing issue has much resonance other than with those who already hate Palin. She just doesn’t give off that “material girl vibe”. On Hannity she said that in Alaska she generally shops at resale shops which makes sense with the size of her family and her modest income.

I think that Sarah looks spectacular right now and the Obamabots just don’t like any portion of the spotlight to be deflected from their chosen one.

When Hannity commented that SNL had the highest ratings in 14 years when she appeared, she charmingly replied “whatever I can do to help”. Palin is a smart, plucky and gutsy woman — me doth things they truly misunderestimate her!

  • imustprotest

Don’t forget that Michelle O said she’d buy $600 earrings with the stimulus money!

  • snosandy

$140,000 for styrofoam columns used once is pretty absurd if you ask me. All Sarah’s clothes will be donated or auctioned off for charity after the election. Sarah shops for her family at a consignment store.

  • http://mybluecountry.googlepages.com/whattheobamademocratsaresayingposter Linda

It sounds like the left is worried if they are going after SARAH PALINS CLOTHES.

My goodnes. Wasn’t it Barry who spent 40 million dollars more than the already increased budget for his Convention, so he could make a Faux White House setting of Columns?

And, let’s not forget. I guess they won’t even report how much Michelle Obama’s make over cost. Hair, make up, all those clothes to try to make her look like “Jackie O”…stop laughing….they still tried their darnest. Let’s just hope MEchelle O has learned not to go in public without that makeup mask on.

You mean the polls of ALL registered voters – which thanks to ACORN includes the likes of Mickey Mouse and the walking dead? I’m sure you’ve noticed the difference between the polls using registered voters and the polls of likely voters? We’ll just have to wait and see who actually shows up – and how many times they do. Even if voter registration fraud doesn’t automatically turn into actual voter fraud, it is still skewing the polls by overstating the # of democratic registered voters.

  • athena

There food bill for the campaing has been over $430,000!!!!

I think Obama is using “THE SECRET”. Anybody here familiar with this book, movie?

The faux seal, the faux Air Force One, his seat on HIS plane that says ‘President’, “President Obama” will do this for you, the Greek column in the background. He is visualizing himself being Prez and providing all the props for his followers to aid him in that visualization. He already beleives he is president. Planning this HUGE victory party is additionally part of the “Ask for what you want, believe that you deserve it and visualize that you have already achieved your goal. Any thoughts?

  • jwrjr

The Oborg don’t have anything valid to use against Palin, so they bitch about the clothing budget.

  • misspeach2008

Susan, Michelle makes her clothes out of recycled slipcovers. It’s going to be a new “green industry” if it catches on. One of her dresses looks like my mom’s loveseat.

  • Demre

I can’t answer for goober but I can tell you I made a nice donation to the GOP this year and I hope every dime went for Palin’s clothing and makeup! Don’t mistakenly think for one minute that I make a lot of money either. I can only work 2 days a week maximum due to having a syndrome called fibromyalgia (X 11 years now). I could easily sit home on my tush and collect a disability check every month but I refuse too! I physically suffer following every shift I work, but the exacerbation of pain I endure after each shift is worth being able to hold my head up and say I don’t ask for or expect a hand out from anybody – I have far to much pride for that! I don’t want anyone to be forced to ‘share their wealth’ with me or anyone else for that matter! I know I don’t want to share what I work hard for (which by someone who does not work for a living would consider ‘wealth’) with others who are able bodied to work but refuse too!

It irks me every time I read a post or hear something on TV regarding the clothing/makeup cost!

As others have posted here this is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost we the people will incur if the obamatwits manage to get ‘That One’ elected!

In closing please consider that your donation went towards advertizing and mine went towards makeup ; )

Every heard of Gallup? 1.5 differential

IBD (most accurate in the last election): same as Gallup

    AP: 1 point differential

But hey–if the MORNING CALL says it’s double digits, then it MUST be so…

  • Sally

Palin is America’s Joan of Arc…in my humble opinion. She’s Our last chance, against the odds of her acceptance as a female leader, to defeat the Enemy (Fascist Marxism).

I think she has the potential to be as tough, devoted and determined as Thatcher/QE1 and as mild as Florence Nightengale.

I have no fear when I know a real Patriot is at the helm….actually, as long as a patriot is leading us, I don’t even care if we go down in defeat. As long as we go down strong and leave a mark on history as fighting for the American Ideal.

But being brought down by a Traitor like Obama, Ayers, etc brings violent thoughts I cannot utter.

God Bless this country…I beg you! May we never see our end. Help us defeat our enemies of state, freedoms, and rights.

  • fif

And California. How’d that work out?

  • Judy L. NC

I believe it was in her “Vogue” interview two years ago or so, when asked who were her favorite designers, Sarah responded “Patagonia and North Face”!!!! LOL!

She’s so lovely that in time designers will be THROWING clothes at Sarah for the advertising–just like they did for Hillary Clinton and they do for actresses for awards shows. It’s just that she arrived on the national state so suddenly.

  • fif

I cannot believe they have been talking about Palin’s wardrobe for days. Their cynical tactics are transparent and embarrassing. Obama holds a “love me” fest at Invesco Field, complete with Greek columns that cost how much? He repainted his plan so he could put a giant “O” on it for $200+K. And the list goes on. Palin doesn’t have a decent wardrobe because she shops at a consignment store in AK, so they buy her clothes, and this is an outrage? No wonder this country is in serious trouble–this is the level of “serious” discourse. We have two wars going on, an economy in free fall, crumbling infrastructure and educational systems, rising foreclosures etc., and they are spending DAYS talking about Palin’s wardrobe costs. And BTW: ALL governors charge for travel expenditures. It’s common practice. So do salespeople. This election has completely jumped the shark.

  • fif

p.s. watching Palin’s interview on FOX last night, when she was asked about the wardrobe, the look on her face broke my heart–for all women. Here she is, thrown into this volatile, hostile situation with very little warning, and she has had to adapt her entire life to being constantly on the road, being attacked from all sides, working long days, and earnestly doing her best. Can you imagine being thrown into the national spotlight like that, and having people come at you like a pack of rabid dogs 24/7? Yet, she looks great, is strong and healthy, and does not break under the pressure. It’s so unjust, it makes me sick. And on the other side: Obama is praised, adored, stroked, and protected at every turn. He is never accountable, and never wrong. This system is diseased, and we wonder why we get inexperienced, arrogant, ineffective leaders. First Bush, now Obama. If people want to vote for an American Idol, then STFU when the problems continue.

  • ruhla

I doubt Sarah was checking the price tags as the sales associates brought in pieces they knew she’d knock out in. She looks great; she’s honest and sincere; I like her; I’m a 2008 ex-democrat. We didn’t see this coverage and concern over Biden’s comments. It’s sickening.

Well, if it’s a national Presidential election, we wouldn’t know, would we, since there hasn’t been a woman on the ticket in a generation.

But, you sound awfully positive, so you must be from some other, more enlightened country.

Anyway, could we get on to something that actually matters to the future of the free world?

I ain’t hating, just amazed that Republican operatives spent $150,000.00 at Saks and Neimans on clothes for Sarah Palin. She is the governor of Alaska not Orphan Annie. She has professional business clothes before she became the VP pick.

They all have more than one change of clothes and there are one hour dry cleaners. It goes against the” I’m just a Wal-Mart mom” when you are wearing a $12,000.00 outfit from Neimans.

  • Andrew191

You’re off by a decimal point!

  • Joy

Orphan Annin, I guess stuff in Ca. really does cost more, because in Dallas, Texas, Neiman’s home, I can deck out a family of 2 adults, 2 teens, a child, and a baby for a whole lot less than $150,000.00.
