The “S” Word And Your Savings

Someone gave me a link yesterday that discussed how Democratic Congress members were considering seizing 401(k)s and putting them in a government account that would yield…….are you ready? Three percent. Forever.

I was horrified. Here we are in a shakey stock market and our dumb shit congress is actually considering seizing what’s left of your money so that you can never recover in the long term, much less ever get those nifty dividends some companies pay quarterly.

Some folks use those dividends as part of their budgets. But of course, our fattened Congress doesn’t think about that. They are all doing just fine. And here, these nutball Socialists are thinking of yanking 401(k)s that have lost money and making it so you not only can never recover, but also making it so you can never earn more than 3%. Forever. That is, if they don’t spend it all like they did with the Social Security money we have all contributed.

Still, even though I was horrified, I didn’t believe that this could actually happen with my own savings from my own earnings:

I hate to use the “S” word, but the American government would never do something as, well, socialistas seize private pension funds, right? This is exactly what cash-strapped Argentina just did in the name of protecting workers’ retirement accounts (Efharisto, Fausta’s Blog). Now, even Uncle Sam isn’t that stupid, but some Democrats might try something almost as loopy: kill 401(k) plans.

House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created “guaranteed retirement accounts” for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since “the savings rate isn’t going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that’s not generating what we now say it should.”

Seems far-fetched doesn’t it? I mean you would have to be thinking, “Naaaaaaa that can’t happen in a Democracy, Especially with my own money“. I mean it would be money people EARNED and SAVED. That’s not possible, right? That’s what I was thinking too!

But then I remembered Barack Obama’s “Spread The Wealth” remark. I mean, let’s face it, seizing all those 401(k)s would definitely give him access to the money to do just that. Look what they pulled off with Fannie Mae? Let’s face it, the “richest 5 percent” isn’t paying for that little giveaway. We are. The rest of us. And our children. And our children’s children….

It also crossed my mind that this guy is the very reason the stock market is not reviving, even with a promise to pump a trillion into the system. The polls say he is going to win and he said he is going to “Spread the wealth”. The stock market will never revive under a Far Left Neo Liberal Totalitarian Socialist Congress and President because there will be NO checks and balances on this “Spread the wealth” bunch. None. Zero. Zilch. Nobody in his or her right mind will have confidence in the market. They would have to be thinking the Government will own the rest of the market next year at this time. They already bought up part of it.

Even after realizing all of these things, I STILL kind of figured, “Naaaaaaaa. Nobody is THAT stupid“. I mean nobody is that dumb not to realize this would erode the stock market even more. And nobody is rotten enough not to realize that SEIZING someone’s life savings and holding it hostage isn’t very American.

Then I heard Cavuto say that Congress is also considering eliminating the tax breaks for 401(k)s. This of course would discourage any savings at all against your own future. As it is, far too many Americans live on credit and don’t save a penny. So I figured, Nahhhhhh, they wouldn’t do that. That would discourage EVERYBODY from saving. Nobody is that dumb, right? After all, this is also not only going to affect the “richest five percent”. This affects every workng American with a 401(k) or IRA. It doesn’t, however, affect wild-eyed young people looking for some hopey-changey excitement while their parents support them. They have no life savings as they are busy spending their parents’ life savings. What a shock when they find out that bucket is getting mighty small.

Then I remembered that under an Obama presidency, there would be no Free Market. Government will be the Market. Decisions on your income and savings will be made by them. You will be “Equal”. Meaning Poor. Barack Obama and Congress won’t be poor though, count on that. Your life savings doesn’t mean squat to these people. They want it to pay for the “Spread the wealth” program, most of which will go right into their own privileged pockets in one form or another. Socialism is for YOU, not for them. This is not about the richest 5 percent folks. Don’t buy it. It’s about you.

Kiss what’s left of your 401(k) goodbye because, given the talk we are hearing from the Obama campaign and the complicity of the Nancy Pelosi’s and Harry Reid’s, this is probably closer to reality than we imagine. Even if you wanted to sit on it and wait for recovery in the market for your 401(k), Barack Obama wants it. Now. And he will take it too. Make no mistake about it. Get that Democracy thing out of your head. We are headed somewhere else. I am especially headed somewhere else, because I am too close to retirement to let these thieves turn me into their poor dependent.

Gee, if I didn’t know *better* I would think they are trying to eliminate the middle class just like Reverend Wright and other Socialists, Marxists and Communists have in mind. Fox has been talking to the leader of the American Socialist Party off and on, and he’s just THRILLED with all of Obama’s ideas.

We can kiss away any thought of a stock market revival for sure if this idea takes hold of those nutballs on Capital Hill. Seizing 401(k)s will remove even more billions from the system and put it right in the clutches of the same pigs who bankrupted the Social Security pot and put IOUs in place of the money. IOUs they never intended to pay then, and they won’t intend to pay if they seize your 401(k).

Oh and I thought you might want to see one of the comments that was posted at that story. All I could think was, this is some leech who is making his parents pay for his car, the insurance and his cell phone bills. They give him his health insurance too. Then, he hits them up for as many bright shiny objects as possible. He is accustomed to being well taken care of for nothing. In addition to that, he feels Entitled. And he doesn’t much give a crap about his parents’ retirement either. When they run out of money, he will move away:

I’m encouraged that Obama will make our senior citizens earn their paychecks. Michelle spoke at length that people will be made to work and there will be no shortages of volunteering opportunities. Let’s clean up our streets, get seniors out raking leaves, picking up trash, cleaning up dog droppings in our parks, mowing city property, mentoring children in the schools and serving other useful functions. Every government dollar provided should be met with enthusiastic joy and reciprocity by the receiving citizen. An idle citizen is an unappreciated citizen.

No kidding. Some little creep actually wrote that. I’d like to think it was satire. But it’s getting harder to tell with the Obama generation. The scary part is, even if it’s a snide joke, it could end up being very true. Seniors don’t appear to be high on Obama’s list. In fact, nobody is really high on his list, except for Himself. And in ten years, these young people who are accustomed to their parents paying all the bills are going to be out into the world asking, “WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING!!!!?”.

I was recently talking to a person who lived the Great Depression. Sharp as a tack too. He told me that the air smells just like it did then and it looks like government is about to make some of the same mistakes. So in closing: If you have been a responsible person all of your life, paid your mortgage on time, made….gasp…sacrifices to save money for the future, kiss it all goodbye, screwed Comrades. Or hide it all. Now. Because if you think the election lines are long, wait till you see the bread lines.

In any event, now you no longer need to wonder why the Market isn’t recovering. It never will in a Socialist society. I do hope you are not one of the people who will lose a job. But in the meantime, sock it away. Happy Days are not going to be around the corner. But if you are a member of the middle class….you can rest assured you will all be “equalized”.

Eliminate the middle class like socialists? The originator of eliminating the middle class was Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush just about obliterated it. I agree that Obama’s ideas are stupid and undemocratic but how can rational people fight him and the New Dems if we get out in right field and just get stupid? McCain is having trouble getting support precisely because of the greedy, criminal things Dubya did, make no mistake about that. Barack Obama is backed by the same people who backed Dubya, he’s another puppet. All these politicians are devoted to taking all our money away from us now. The only decent ones in the bunch were the Clintons. They weren’t corporate whores and they weren’t looney left, so of course they’ve been forced out.

DNC By-laws and could find no provision that required them to verify one of their candidates eligibility for office, which I find staggering. However, it is legally the responsibility of each secretary of state of each state where a candidate’s name appears on any ballot to verify his or her eligibility. Perhaps the DNC assumes that in order for Obama to appear on the primary ballots, the secretary of state of each state would have done their job.

CALL TO ACTION! CALL THE SECRETARY OF STATE AND DEMAND VERIFICATION THAT OBAMA HAS PRESENTED HIS COLB TO BE ON YOUR STATES BALLOT!!!

Holy smokes!!! I’m not sure I can take much more of this. I’m a nervous wreck now…bad dreams, inability to concentrate on my work…a bad case of the dreaded obama disease for sure. If I see his ugly mug on tv one more time, I may take a turn for the worse!

I do take consolation in the idea that there are so many, many people who will not forgive the Dems for what they did to Hillary who will vote for McCain, plus all those Dems who have been called “bitter and gun clinging” who will vote for McCain, plus all the Repubs who are newly energized by Sarah Palin, not to mention the families with special needs children, the Christians who cannot abide the thought of obama voting to withhold medical care from infant victims of botched murders abortions, the hunting and fishing crowd, the hockey moms (and soccer moms, and Little League moms) and on, and on and on…

plus the polls, which are just all over the place and obviously don’t have any more validity to predicting what will happen on Nov. 4th than my houseplants.

I want to hear some reports by everyone about the election situation in your area. Include information like:

Number of McCain signs v. Obama signs.
    Length of poll lines.
    Co-worker/friends preferences.
General feelings about the election in your state.

We must always be aware of what is going on in other regions of the country. The media lies plenty about the circumstances.

Talk about timing. Thank you Uppity. I just sent this email to NQ freaking out when I saw this.

My hubby kept insisting I mus be wrong. He can’t believe it. So he went and checked the source and article and cofirmed, these New Democrats are just gone over the cliff.

The article I found, Investment News clearly shows how our New Socialist Democratic Party wants to cut tax breaks for our 401 K investments and then mandate to take an additional 5 percent and put it in more goverment controlled separate accounts and limit how much we can make on their mandatory additional investment tax?

This is ridiculous. When voters hear this, Repubs, Indes AND DEMOCRATS…LIKE US, are just going to FREAK and rightly so.

I have so much to say I don’t know where to begin. Tek, I used to blame Reagan too but in my research about socialization and ACORN, I found they all hated him. He wouldn’t give in to their demands and they wrote in length how he curtailed their movement.

I have been shocked at what I’ve discovered this year. So shocked that I’m now a registered independent. I hope no matter what happens in this election we all stay together and research every politician running for office, no matter what their

I also pray that we never just except a politician, and refuse to believe the truth about them just because we want desperately to believe in a fairytale.

I really don’t know who she thinks will do this. Chicago welfare recipients? She’s showing her ghetto roots. We have posts all through town with supplies of little plastic bags for people to pick up their dog droppings. We organize beach clean up regularly…not just seniors do that. We keep dogs out of our only downtown (small) park and we wouldn’t dream of our Seniors to doing forced “volunteer” (labor camp) work.

Get this MEchille. I’ve worked since I was 17 years old, raised 2 non-druggie, sober, fully creative and employed adults. I paid my Social Security. And if you think I’m going to go pick up dog shit in Chicago, you’re out of your mind. IT’S AN INSURANCE PROGRAM not your personal slush fund.

Forget about the DNC; they are a private club and will interpret any existing rules as they see fit.

Only S’s of S in those states whose lawmakers have enacted laws authorizing them to ascertain the candidate’s eligibility for the office sought; and only those S’s of S who have exercised this authority by requiring that all candidates who seek to get onto the ballot in that state must satisfy the requirements of the office sought, may question the candidate’s credentials. Even so, many of these states have deadlines for such challenge, which have long since passed.

The S of S in GA satisfies all of these conditions and can challenge a candidate’s eligibility up to the election.

  • Seriously Sick of Obama

Letter to Philip Berg Regarding Berg v. Obama
Philip Berg, Esq. is Standing Tall For All of Us

(Even Without The Blessings of the Lower Court)

I for one would like to say thank you Mr. Berg!

    Dear Sir:

I want to publicly extend my deepest appreciation to you, Mr. Berg, for taking on the enormous Constitutional crisis that is facing America; the possibility that a person who might not be eligible, under the requirements set forth in our Constitution, to hold the office for which he is being allowed to run. If your allegations are found to have merit it will mean that Sen. Obama, knowingly solicited hundreds of million of dollars in campaign contributions under fault pretenses from unsuspecting American citizens and voters. It will mean that he and others conspired to keep this information secret and intentionally thwarted Sen. Clinton’s chances of becoming the first female President of the United States. Thank you for bringing this action, Sir.

Fortunately for us all, every now and again, a cause will come along that will stir the soul and passions. What cause could be more important that standing tall against those who could be seeking to undermine our legal system for electing the President of The United States of America? Who among us would challenge those of such power and wealth who could be trying to win an office for which they are not eligible? Who among us would take on a Senator, one with a historic candidacy, who is wildly popular by any standard? A lawyer who would take on such a case would certainly be led down roads that seem to go on forever, that are full of obstacles, and that usually demand going on with little support or understanding from neighbors, friends or even family. Thank you for your courage and determination.

As you well know, the case that goes against the fleeting public emotional attachment carries the most risk to the lawyer. If the person challenged by an attorney is highly revered, the lawyer becomes a lightening rod for attack; just as the exceedingly despised defendant, who is defended in court against the desires of the mob. For those who don’t fully appreciate what I’m trying to say, watch the movie – To Kill a Mockingbird. Thank you Mr. Berg for standing up for us, knowing that to win or lose such a case would exact a high price from you.

Thank you for having the courage to take Berg v. Obama all the way to the Supreme Court in your efforts to advert such a possible travesty of Justice.

To those of you who may not be aware, Sen. Obama could have easily defended his eligibility to hold the U. S. Presidency by merely presenting exclusive proof of where and when he was born; and that he has never held a citizenship from another country that would nullify or call his U. S. citizenship into question. Sen. Obama chose not to answer the complaint; but instead, he chose to take the route of a legal technocrat seeking to challenge Mr. Berg’s “Standing to Sue”. When Sen. McCain was questioned about his birth certificate, he immediately presented a vault copy of his birth certificate showing the date and location of his birth, without legal hocus pocus.

“Standing to Sue” means that party has sufficient stake in an otherwise justiciable controversy to obtain judicial resolution of that controversy. Sierra Club v. Morton, 405 U. S. 727, 92 S. Ct. 1361, 1364, 31 L.Ed.2d 636

The Hon. R. Barclay Surrick decided Sen. Obama’s Motion to Dismiss in part on the following reasoning:

…regardless of questions of causation, the grievance remains too generalized to establish the existence of an injury in fact. To reiterate: a candidate’s ineligibility under the Natural Born Citizen Clause does not result in an injury in fact to voters. By extension, the theoretical constitutional harm experienced by voters does not change as the candidacy of an allegedly ineligible candidate progresses from the primaries to the general election…

Everyone must fully understand the meaning of Judge Surrick’s decision in dismissing Mr. Berg’s lawsuit. First, it does not mean that Sen. Obama is in any way eligible to hold the Office of the Presidency. Second, it does mean that even if everyone knew that Sen. Obama was born on the moon, it would not matter regarding the decision about Sen. Obama’s Motion to Dismiss. Judge Surrick found that a voter would not suffer enough injury by the possible election of an ineligible candidate as President to grant him or her standing to be authorized under law to bring this type of lawsuit. Third, this challenge to Sen. Obama’s eligibility is not over.

If Citizens exercising the most precious right that we have under the Constitution, in what is expected to a free and fair election process, do not have standing – who does?

I would suspect, and also pray, that you do in fact have standing and that the higher courts will reinstate your action against Sen. Obama, et alli. However, it wouldn’t hurt if some people who clearly have an even bigger stake in the outcome of Berg. v Obama would join with you as plaintiffs in the action.

Those I’m thinking about are Sen. John McCain, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Ralph Nader, Congressman Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, and the other candidates of the Democratic Primary. I want to publicly challenge each one of the people to stand with Phillip Berg, Esq., to prevent the possible election of a person who may not meet the requirements under the Constitution of The United States to hold the Office of the Presidency.

I also want to challenge each of you reading this thank you letter to contact the above named individuals and encourage them to take their “Standing” and stand up for America and its system of laws.

Even though this decision was to be expected, it must have weighed heavily on you, Mr. Berg. Thank you for bearing this disappointment for America with grace and continuing on.

I don’t know that there are any short cuts to doing a good job.
    Sandra Day O’Connor

I live in the Socialist Republic of California.
Small town about one hour northeast of Berkeley and S.F.

In my small town – very few Obama signs.
Neighbor across the street has a yard sign up for a local politician for State Senate (Dem), but no Obama yard sign.

I have two McCain yard signs.
My neighbor catycorner to me has one in front yard.
There are two more on that side of the street.
Neighbor to the left of my house has a McCain yard sign.

Really weird and eerie thing: hardly ANY Obama bumper stickers in my town.

Many folks I know that are Dems in my town? No Obama signs.

Very few people “talking” about Obama.

    Very strange.

On I-80 – major freeway, I notice hardly any bumper stickers for either candidate.

    From Utah:

A few Obama signs in SLC. More McCain yard signs. But, generally it’s much less than 2004. Hardly any bumper stickers. There aren’t really any local signs either for Dem or GOP candidates. Again, the yard sign – bumper sticker count is way down.

Almost NO campaign signs for either Obama or McCain. farther north.

No one in our immediate area even discusses Obama other than to say they won’t vote for him. Joe the Plumber seems to have reached any that I know that were sitting on the fence. Socialism is a big buzzword that has turned any thoughts of Obama off. General feeling is that we (the country) need McCain to win.

If the AOL straw poll is any worthwhile indication, Utah will go to McCain.

It feels like the calm before the storm. I think if Obama wins, the militia mentality may rear it’s head- IMHO only. I have no basis to say that other than a feeling.

Most of us folks who are retired have really “paid our dues” in life. If we have a modest pension and or social security, we have earned it. It may be that we are no longer able to work as we once did for long hours, for long years. For decade after decade. We have “paid our dues.”

John McCain has paid his dues. He has paid his dues big time. Barack Obama, on the other hand, has done nothing to earn the worship lavished on him by his supplicants. He has NOT PAID HIS DUES, no, not in the slightest. And now he stands on the brink of the presidency? Give me a break: what kind of cartoon world is this?

This kind of unearned entitlement is the death of the free world.

More McCain Palin signs than Obama in Southwest Michigan.

It is scary in Arizona. Almost no signs at all. Saw a McCain sticker on three cars near Oro Valley and Obama sticker on a few near the University of Arizona. Saw one campaign sign for Obama near the U of A. Local election signs are everywhere though. I don’t know half the people the signs belong to.

  • Steve1

Palin and McCain should remine everyone, everyday about Bill Ayers, Larry Sinclair, Rev Wright…I hope someone releases the whitey tape! Where is Soetoro’s BC? Do they think these issues are going to disappear if Mr. Soetoro is elected? NOT!

  • AF catfish

It’s Obama’s authoritarianism that’s scary, not that he’ll raise taxes. The 401k thing will never go through. We need to block it.

But Hillary would raise taxes to get America in working condition again, to fix the infrastructure, to strengthen the health of the citizens so jobs could be created.

This “spread the wealth” saying is really revealing of a naivete in Obama. Socialism sounds like a good idea when you’re young, but when you read a little HISTORY (which Obama has not done) you see how disastrous it is. And it is always coupled with authoritarianism.

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

Linda, they won’t CARE if we freak. They will seize. When you have NO checks and balances in government you are dead meat. The goal is to “spread the wealth”. Yours. Do you really think the very wealthy haven’t already made plans to protect their assets? Where do you think Obama is going to get the money? From the rest of us, that’s who. They will do what they did to the social security pot and Fannie Mae. Raid us. They will finish off the market with the billions they seize in 401s. Then we will all be dependent upon The One for our bread. In spite of the market, I just got a nice dividend check on one of my stocks. Many seniors depend on these quarterly checks while not touching their stocks. Nobody is going to force Me to take 3 percent. I will move my investments first. Unfortunately, we will all have to move our 401s at a loss because these bastards won’t make it safe for us to wait long term for recovery. These people are truly evil thieves.

Like I’m going to let Barney Frank put himself in charge of MY money.

Funny thing I work at a Dialysis clinic in So.CA and don’t know of a single Obama supporter and its weird in that many of the staff would be considered Democratic in their political POV.

There are two beneficiaries to the Democrat plan.

    1) Labor unions, whose members are generally covered by defined-benefit pension plans which will NOT be affected by this at all, thus making membership in a Union desirable, and

    2) The Federal Gummint, which will have VERY cheap interest-expense for the foreseeable future. That means that Congressslugs can spend more money for about half the interest-cost they would otherwise have to pay.

The losers, frankly, have no powerful lobbying groups in DC.

    Get the picture?

I emailed Barbara West this morning and told her she is my new hero. I wish everyone here would email her and give her their support. It doesn’t matter… Bush attacked Syria today. He wants to extend the war into Syria. Something is going to happen before the election. Bush is not leaving just yet. This scary. People think Bush is dumb. Bush isn’t dumb; he is evil. I wouldn’t be suprise if martial law is declared in the coming weeks.

  • NCgirl

    That is a great quote!

  • Don

At this point I don’t know that I would be all that upset if he did impose martial law and postpone the elections for another six months or so. Have put up with GW for almost 8 years but not sure I can put with Obama for even six months.

Maybe in six months people will have come to their senses and started thinking about where this country would be headed under an Obama administration instead of simply buying into the “change” mantra without questioning what we will be changing, how we will be changing it, and what it is going to cost to change it.

Responding to the request upstairs for reports on the ground: Here in Miami, it’s been tough being a McCain/Palin supporter if you have anything to do with the University of Miami, which is pretty solidly Obotomized (Pres Donna Shalala + faculty + students: all mouthing MSM talking points). Thus it was very heartening to see today (Sunday) dozens of people along U.S. 1 (right across from the University and always heavily trafficked) with McCain/Palin signs (including young “Cubans for McCain/Palin, despite what the Miami Herald wants you to believe) — waving at passersby and putting lots of signs along the sidewalk. Very friendly, enthusiastic, respectful, and upbeat — lots of cars honked and I saw lots of thumbs-up signs (including mine!), to the delight of the cheering sidewalk supporters. It felt good to finally see a McCain/Palin presence here (we’ll see how long the signs stay up…..).

Abd Barry’s comments he made in LA Fundraiser talking about how most of his supporters will never be able to come to a place like they are in for the fundraiser. Not that they should aspire to, just that they won’t. And how he talks of giving them some more money to rise.

Kansas city here, I see a mix of both signs. There were several Obama and McCain signs that had been taken down that I saw a couple of days ago. Some were replaced and the others have not as yet been replaced. It seems pretty split but less signs all the way around than in 2004.

I get the feeling people are keeping to themselves till they are in the booth. I have seen more bumper stickers appear in just the last few days. I think there are more McCain ones. It is really hard to pin this down.

  • Andrew

Bush isn’t evil; Obama is evil. Bush is trying to influence the election which in this case is a good thing. Anyway, where did it say that Bush attacked Syria? I have banned the MSM from my computer so I haven’t heard about it.

  • lisa in va

Andrew, I’m sorry hon, you missed on this one. Unless there was a nuclear weapon or bin ladin hiding out at the Syrian farm, this was bad for McCain. It makes Repubs look like warmongers. Unless Bush gives a specific, uber important reason for this assault, then it starts to look to me like Bush is trying to sink McCain. Weird.

Even weirder is the meeting that the Dems had with this woman about the 401k’s…that is sure to sink Obama.

The only thing I can figure is the Bush’s puppetmaster (whoever it may be), wants Oblahblah (cuz he/they can’t control McCain); and the Dems finally came to their senses and realized that Obama will be bad for the country (or more important to their electability in 2 years), and are trying to sink HIM.

    Any chessplayers here?

On the South East side of Michigan (around Pontiac and north to Flint) there aren’t many presidential signs. There’s local signs everywhere but few presidential. There are more McCain/Palin than Obama, but it seems to go in neighborhood spurts. Color and latte liberalness seems to be the deciding factor. Donna seems to have gotten her wish around here.

I agree with other posters. People just don’t want to make it known who they are supporting. Recently I had a whispered conversation with a woman I found out was a PUMA (she isn’t online but she had heard of the term :) She loved Hillary but just can’t vote for Obama. She sure wasn’t going to let that get around where she works and was very happy to hear that she’s not alone.

Polls in Michigan make it seem like a lost cause for McCain, but I have been getting some vibes that Michigan may go for McCain when they actually count the votes.

I am from Ct also, what part of state are you from? Here in S.E. part of state I see the same, in my town 6 McCain to 4 Obama. Very few bumper stickers on cars either. I had to run to R.I. late this week and there was nothing there except local politics.
One bright note though, I had a McCain-Palin sticker on my purse from NH rally and people in veterinarian office said they knew there was reason they liked me. It seems all but one person in multi-vet office is for McCain.
I think the strongest Obama supporters here are the media. I checked the web site to make ceratin that my name was not on Obama donation list sine we had donated to Clinton, not a lot of people have donated to him from this district (Courtney). A very few Obama signs are on lawns, no McCain signs here in Encinitas. Many signs for local elections. I live in the most liberal part of the north coastal area of San Diego County, CA. This entire county is run by Republicans and most of our representatives in Congress are Republicans.

Most people are not talking about the election, or at least they are not talking to me about it. The property manager of our apartment complex is an Obot. She has an Obama campaign poster on her office window and an Obama sticker on her van.

My neighbors know me as a Democrat. I have not gone out of my way to tell people I am not voting for Obama. I believe maintaining a low profile here is the best path for me since I really have no where else to go.

It’s clear that the objective basics of economics should be taught in schools alongside math and history. The trouble is, schools are citadels of socialist/Marxist dogma and you could not trust teachers to inform kids rationally of the basics of capitalism – the primacy of property rights, the importance of a division of labor, the theory of prices and wages etc. No, they’d use the opportunity to teach kids that they should feel exploited and alienated as per the dated theories of Marx and Engels. They’ve been doing this for years and look at the results. Hardly anyone has any idea about economics and seem to think it’s the very embodiment of class warfare. It’s no wonder that so many kids are mesmerized by the socialistic bromides of Obama.

Tonight I’ve been browsing a few pro-Obama newspaper editorials and reading the comments that people post. I’ve come to the conclusion that 90% of people are literally plain stupid. This is why Obama has so much support – half of them support his ideology and most of the rest are too uneducated to argue against it effectively. The “progressive” left has done a bang-up job in preparing America for a socialist revolution over the last 40 years. All it takes is a steady drip-drip of far-left fallacy as fed by our educational institutions and the popular media.

I really think that there needs to be a renaissance of reason and rational thought in this country. We need to build a grass roots counter-culture to undo the damage done by the grass roots counter-culture the Marxists started in the 60′s which has literally become the mainstream.

  • JozefAL

Reagan was NOT the “greatest President of the 20th Century”. You’re certainly free to claim that but the reality is that Reagan’s economic policies (which his VP referred to as “voodoo economics” during the 1980 GOP primary campaign season) were beyond abhorrent to anyone other than the very same people who’ve been making out so well under Dubya. This great supporter of the “balanced budget amendment” NEVER sent a balanced budget to Congress. Reagan insisted on increasing defense spending at a rate that couldn’t be subsidized without cutting EVERY social program (from school lunches to social security and medicaid) to virtually nothing.
Reagan is also largely at fault for many of the problems that the airline industry has faced–from a lack of sufficiently trained air traffic controllers to the deregulated mess that helped lead to CEOs walking off with vast fortunes while their airlines were going belly up (and, not surprisingly, the various airline union workers were constantly asked to give up benefits while the CEOs were NEVER required–even during arbitration–to cut their own pay packages).
Then, of course, there’s Reagan’s complicity in the AIDS crisis. The first cases of GRID (gay-related immune deficiency) showed up in the large cities during Reagan’s first year in office, but no effort was made to involve the CDC. By the time, the CDC became involved, and the disease was officially identified, thousands of gay men had died and thousands more were infected. By the time Reagan actually mentioned the disease (following Rock Hudson’s death from AIDS-related complications), the death toll was in the tens of thousands but the Reagan administration–in the thrall of the Religious Right (Falwell, Robertson, Swaggart, et al) and their Congressional cohorts (esp Helms)–refused to do anything substantive to address the issue. Even Reagan’s Surgeon General was hampered by these religiously-motivated bigots who refused to accept any sort of education programs that involved talk of safer sex (especially proper condom use).
Quite simply, I’m not really a religious person, but I hope Ronald Reagan is rotting in Hell as I type.

It’s growing legs—headline on Drudge and lead on Hill Buzz.

    Michelle Malkin has this…

    Obama:

If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendancy to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that.

The next Fed meeting is on Oct 29, wait & see what happens. This whole mess started in real estate, financials can’t mend until real estate mends. In order to unload the massive real estate inventory they have to keep rates low, plus the banks don’t want to pay interest on deposits as they’re all having to pay more for the FDIC increase + they’re billions in the hole. The markets have lost about 40% of value…who knows they could bring everything down so low 3% might start lookin’ attractive. My guess is this is some clown’s idea of protecting retirement funds & for people who hold equities outside of IRAs or 401s who knows what the plan is. Remember Sarkozy, the EU & Asia are going to turn us on to a kinder mo’ gentle form of capitalism after the election. If you’ve read any of my recent Bloomberg references you know what I mean: “Europe lobbies Bush for global market reforms” “Together we need to rebuild a capitalism that is more respectful to man, more respectful to future generations & be finished with a capitalism obcessed by the frantic search for short term profits”, Sarkozy said. The dollar has been strengthening lately, Repugs tend to like a weaker dollar, Dems a stronger dollar. Both love control, welcome to the new world order.

None of them ever tell the truth about inflation until it’s time to give themselves another C.O.L.A. So if inflation is 6% & you make 3% you’re only down 50% but then you have to factor in devaluation & I’m not sure how to calculate that. Is that 3% starting to look a little better?

  • justsomeone

Look at the so called “flight to safety” in treasuries, half the orders couldn’t get filled & some of those short termers were only paying .01%. Crammer said that before IndyMac crashed there was already big runs on the banks, not the kind with Mom & Pop standing in lines outside the doors, the kind where major depositors we’re just calling & taking out millions. The G8 have been saying that none of this can be allowed to harm the emerging markets. Yep we’re being regularized. It’s getting really interesting.

Liberty Bell, I am a PUMA and have already cast my vote for McCain/Palin (Country First for me as well), but I also worked for the union and under Ronald Reagan’s presidency deregulation lost over 600,00 of our members their jobs, which were shipped to overseas companies. He cut down OSHA regulations and I could go on and on. George W. Bush was only able to do what he did because of Ronald Reagan. Still, there’s no point in blaming anyone, if we continue to allow idealogical differences separate us, we will sink in our separate boats. However, if we come together and learn to bail the water out in harmony, we can surely win this election.

Mike, if its 3% adjusted for inflation then it outta pay 9% & the gov could tax the hell out of 9%. That is a big part of the Dem’s plan isn’t it? I tried to read your entire GRA link but my eyes started glazing over, it all started sounding like a bad annuity.

JozeFal, Thank you for your comments. I think Reagan was one of the worst presidents in our nation’s history and helped make what’s happening now possible. Thanks for reminding us about how the airlines got to be in this sorry mess, thanks to his (Reagan’s) deregulation and his union-busting of PATCO.

The global market declines have very little to do with what effect an Obama or McCain presidency would have on them. Wall Street and the global markets haven’t had time to figure out what an Obama presidency of share the wealth would have them because they’re reeling from Credit Default Swaps (CDS). A CDS is an unregulated insurance policy that is sold to insure a financial instrument. If you bought a mortgage security, you could also buy a CDS which insured you from loss. CDS are unregulated and the company selling you the policy doesn’t have to keep capital in reserve to pay off your policy if you sustain a loss on the mortgage security.

For the past year, there have been many articles forecasting the crash we’ve seen in the world stock markets. It has nothing to do with the possibility of moving 401ks out of the stock market. Looking at Senator Obama’s share the wealth plan as the culprit is like swatting at a mosquito on your arm when a grizzly bear is mauling your other arm.

The financial stocks began sliding earlier this year and have brought down the entire market. The Royal Bank of Scotland warned of a global market crash months ago. Not many people were listening.

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/82182-high-likelihood-of-a-market-crash

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/22/business/22norris.html?_r=2&ref=business&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

Financial stocks aren’t crashing because Senator Obama might be elected president and start sharing the wealth. There is no wealth out there to share. Wall Street gambled it away.

The Panic of 1907 was a result of the credit markets drying up. Very similar to what we’re seeing now. One of the reasons the credit markets dried up was because of the bucket shops, which were faux mini stock exchanges. The bucket shops didn’t sell stock, people instead bet on whether a stock would go up or down. JP Morgan came to the rescue of Wall Street in 1907 by infusing the market with millions. Which is what Paulson is trying to do now. It worked then, however, the rest of the world didn’t have a hand in the betting pie in 1907. The SEC banned bucket shops after the 1929 stock market crash.

In 1994, the firm of JP Morgan realized it had given hundreds of millions in loans and was required to keep capital on hand in case the loans went south. All that money doing nothing. They came up with this great idea of getting a third company to insure the loans, which would free up their reserve capital. They hired a bunch of experts to value the insurance policies which were called Credit Default Swaps so they weren’t regulated by insurance laws and created a new market for them. It sounded like such a great idea. At first, maybe it was.

In 2000, Congress enacted the Commodity Futures Modernization Act and included in the act:

    SEC. 117. PREEMPTION. HR 5660
`(2) This Act shall supersede and preempt the application of any State or local law that prohibits or regulates gaming or the operation of
bucket shops (other than antifraud provisions of general applicability) in the case of–

`(A) an electronic trading facility excluded under section 2(e) of this Act; and

`(B) an agreement, contract, or transaction that is excluded from this Act under section 2(c), 2(d), 2(f), or 2(g) of this Act or title IV of
the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000, or exempted under section 2(h) or 4(c) of this Act (regardless of whether any
such agreement, contract, or transaction is otherwise subject to this Act).’.

All state laws that banned bucket shops or prevented third parties from betting on the market, interest rates, etc… through Credit Default Swaps were wiped out. The $500 billion dollar market of Credit Default Swaps in the 1990′s grew to a market of $62 trillion in eight years.

Wall Street went crazy selling CDS’s. Let’s say General Electric was selling bonds and you decided they wouldn’t be able to pay those bonds off. You could buy a CDS based on the GE bonds, you didn’t have to actually own a bond. Then you waited to see if your bet would pay off.

Wall Street sold trillions of CDS’s to insure the mortgage securities with, they sold them worldwide. Buyers of mortgage securities bought the CDS. Buyers who had no financial interest in mortgage securities also bought the CDS’s, betting that mortgage securities would fail and they would rake in the cash with their CDS. People bought CDS’s to bet on interest rates, on whether X corporation or Y City could pay off it’s bonds, etc….

AIG sold over $400 billion CDS. Because CDS’s aren’t regulated, AIG didn’t have to keep a reserve capital to pay them off. AIG had lots of fun selling CDS’s to back the mortgage securities that Lehman Brothers were selling. Until recently, they were all having lots and lots fun, until the buyers of the CDS that insured mortgage securities began cashing in their policies. AIG and everyone else who sold the CDS’s didn’t have the capital to pay off the policies. The financial stocks began to fall and the credit markets dried up.

Adding to the crisis is that risky securities and bonds that should have been rated far lower than AAA, were rated AAA because the CDS’s backing them were sold by a company rated AAA. But all those AAA companies who sold the CDS’s are no longer AAA companies because of the risky business of insuring mortgage securities. Their stock prices began to fall and keep falling.

    http://www.trendsimwatching.com/2008/01/thoughts-from-t.html

The CDS market isn’t regulated. No one really has any idea who owns the CDS, who was selling them or how many of them are out there. China could hold CDS’s valued in the trillions. Your neighbor down the street could hold them. They were inexpensive to buy and everyone from major corporations to tiny towns in Sweden bought them. World markets are collapsing because buyers worldwide bought them, too many have been cashing them in, there isn’t cash to pay them off and no one knows how many more are out there waiting to be paid off.

We can lay blame at Senator Obama’s feet for being a supporter of ACORN which eagerly coerced banks into giving risky loans. But only 6% of mortgages are failing and wouldn’t cause the mess we’re seeing in global markets. The declines are more related to the CDS.

While I’m sure Senator Obama’s ego would love the stroking of believing his economic policies are shaking up the markets, they’re not. What we’re seeing now was set in motion long before Senator Obama had the chance to vote present on any bill, train any ACORN activists in the art of bank coercion, announce he was going to tax the well off for having more money than the rest of us or Congress started thinking about raiding the 401ks.

    http://www.newsweek.com/id/161199

I think Senator Obama’s economic policies backed by a Democratic led Congress that thinks he can do no wrong would be devastating. We don’t have the wealth to do what he wants to do – Wall Street gambled it away. Until we clean up the CDS mess, clean up the mortgage mess and lower the deficit, we will not be creating jobs in the U.S. If we’re not creating jobs, taxing the affluent and corporations isn’t going to have a positive effect. His plan to lower taxes for the middle and lower classes will probably have less of a positive effect on the economy than the $600 stimulus checks had six months ago. We don’t have an economic climate where sharing the wealth to fund whatever programs he has in mind is viable. From what I can tell, his programs and policies wouldn’t benefit us all that much if he could fund them. They’re more geared to increasing the wealth of his silent backers, which is what we’ve seen for the past eight years under the Bush administration.

    Libert Bell…

i am in agreement with you. this year i became an independent and have begun for the first time to actually question dems and liberate myself from demonizing repubs. i find myself in a strange place of hybrid, and educating myself like mad to play catch up with history. having a wide open mind is very heady. i can actually agree with some of the conservative writing that i had always shunned because some liberal dem didn’t say or write it.

this election cycle, and the broad corruption engaged in by the dem elite leadership, the obamacan lean towards Socialist/Marxist agenda, and so much more, stepping back for a more birds eye view has re-tooled my thinking.

the new species of political hybrid that i find here in cyberspace invigorates and encourages independent thinking, and offers an in depth truth in reportage not found in the uber liberal msm media .

what a trip it is. thank you NoQuarter for the work you do.

Sorry to disappoint, but all those folks in Congress have their own Party folks back home who help run their campaigns, raise their funds, provide local support, etc. And guess what? 90% of them have 401K’s. That Congressman’s sister and brother-in-law, they’ve got a 401K, too. Their adult kids, they’ve got 401K’s. These guys won’t be able to go home for Christmas if they seize 401K’s, and they’ll all be looking for jobs after the next election. They may be stupid, but they’re not THAT stupid.

On the citizenship issue, Obama has a passport. To get it, he had to submit a birth certificate that established that he was born in Hawaii. So the US Government has already established that he is a US citizen and that he was born in Hawaii. (And I know people who have had their birth certificates challenged in this process. The passport people know how to spot fakes and alterations.) For a suit to prevail, the burden of proof would be on the plaintiff to demonstrate that the government made a mistake. It’s not Obama’s issue to prove. Someone with standing needs to demonstrate to a court that the facts already approved in his passport application are false. Innuendo on websites doesn’t cut it.

It’s not Obama’s issue to prove.

Really? Since when should a presidential candidate have to be compelled by court order to turn over his birth certificate? If I were being sued over this, I would simply turn over my birth certificate and have the case dropped. I would not spend money on lawyers to prevent me from having to produce my own birth certificate, and file motions to prevent discovery…of my birth certificate! Does this make sense to anyone? This simply doesn’t pass the smell test. It would be to his benefit to simply put the issue to rest by producing the damn birth certificate. He would be doing himself a favor…that is IF he has a valid birth certificate. His own suspicious actions lead me to believe he doesn’t have one and is not a U.S. citizen.

  • Bruce

Have you noticed that these court cases aren’t going anywhere?

  • Jules

Sure, I’ve noticed. And I recently found out that due to loopholes in the law, no one has standing to pursue the case. Doesn’t mean it’s right. Now, why don’t you answer MY questions?
