I couldn't agree with you more but don't leave out the most offensive of them all-MSNBC and the vile propagandists that dare to call themselves "media".

I mailed my ballot today for McCain in California and I'm a registered Democrat. This will be the first time I vote for a Republican. I love this story, wouldn't it be wonderful if California went for McCain.

Chicago Tribune and NYT have been cancelled at our home. Radio news has it that Tribune has already printed the "Obama wins" front page. Obama is building a massive stage in Grant Park (I drove past it this morning. Spare me.

But, go back and check the vote's results. That recall measure had two components: First was the recall and second was the choice to replace. People who didn't like Davis included many Democrats so they didn't really "cross" party lines. Davis was NOT a candidate in the election--an earlier ruling disallowed his being among the gubernatorial candidates IF the recall succeeded; had the recall failed, Davis would have continued in office.
The results of the RECALL were 52.9% in favor, 42.6% against while 4.5% of the ballots were invalid or blank. But, NO candidate received 52.9% of the vote for a new governor. In fact, Schwarzenegger didn't even win all the Republican votes; Ah-nuld got 44.7% of the total vote while fellow GOP nominee, Tom McClintock got 12.3% (personally, I'd say the REAL GOPers voted for McClintock) and Democrat Cruz Bustamante got 28.9%. More than 8% of the ballots were invalid or blank and just over 6% of the votes went to the remaining 125+ candidates. (The numbers provided at Wiki list the actual figures, but the percentages for the yes/no issue as well as the candidates' votes are based on the ballots that were valid or marked. The percentages I listed included the invalid/blank ballots.)
One might note that since voter turnout was "only" 61% that a tacit 39% of the voters really opposed the recall and wanted Davis to remain in office. (It is also possible that many of Davis's supporters refused to participate in an election that they felt improperly excluded him. I do recall hearing that many Davis supporters resented Bustamante for running as "Davis's replacement", feeling that Bustamante was using the recall for his own political advancement.)

Great post Ani!

I heartily agree: too little, too late.

I used to subscribe to the Sunday NY Times; I would pick up the daily NY Times several times a week at my local coffee shop.

I used to read the Washington Post on-line every morning.

I used to watch MSNBC every evening.

By Feburary 2008, I stopped watching MSNBC - the Hillary hate was over the top.

By June I let my NY Times subscription lapse. It was clear it learned nothing from the Judith Miller fiasco - it just continued printed one-sided versions of a story. To hell with objectivity. (Can't talk about Obama's drug use, but Cindy McCain's is ok?) I gave up the Post around that time as well. To think that paper used to care about abuses of power - not one word about causcus fraud, unaccounted for Obama campaign expenditures, etc.

I refuse to look at the vast majority of the MSM now because of the sickening treatment of Palin. CNN is as bad as MSNBC. And I will NEVER buy a GE product.

It is now NQ, Drudge and Fox for me. If the NY Times is now a junk bond status, if MSNBC has fewer viewers than producers, if the Post is becoming a second-rate paper, well, so be it. These media outlets did it to themselves.

These orgnaization are not staffed by reporters, not by journalists, but by hacks who like to look in the mirror. They think they have something pithy to say, but it is usually just mean-spirited drivel, and generally said at the expense of a woman.

I know a lot of people in LA who work in the industry.

It's dead right now, whether it's print, TV, and even movies. Retail is dead. There are falling revenues from ad cutbacks. Advertising people are hardly working.

Well that's still just early voting so I wouldn't count the unhatched chicks yet. But...

I
f we take the liberty of assuming that all Republicans will vote for John McCain and all Democrats will vote for Obama, then the race is incredibly close.

The good news is that I think all Republicans will vote McCain but NOT all Democrats will vote BO. Many of them will vote third party and a smaller percentage will vote McCain. So yes, it appears very, very close!

Remember: The Patriots were supposed to win the Super Bowl last year! They were also so ridiculously favored in every game that even they--as great as they were--almost never made the point spread, which was often ludicrously high even for such a good high-scoring team. And in the end, the scrappy Giants won the S.Bowl. And Obama is no Tom Brady!

I'm sorry, but didn't California vote for the Democratic candidate?
Oh! I get it now. When you wrote "loser", you meant "person who lost the general election", not "Dubya". (Dubya's a loser ALL the time, even when he "wins".)

I wouldn't be too hard on King. During the debates I noticed he was the one lone voice raising some good questions but was repeatedly shouted down by his gabbling cohorts. It isn't the reporters who control what they yack about, it's their bosses. And many of those bosses are very cozy with Obama.

I've got a feeling that many California DEMOCRATS will also vote yes on Prop 8. In 2006, when Alabama had the opportunity to vote for a Governor AND a ban on same-sex marriage, the Republican Governor only received 58% of the vote while the amendment received a whopping 81%.
I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the African-Americans in Cali will vote for Obama AND Prop 8. (Of course, since AAs account for less than 10% of all Californians, the overall margin will probably be much closer.) I don't agree with Prop 8 at all. Arguments from proponents are hollow. Marriage is governed by CIVIL authorities in this country (just try getting married in a church without a state-issued license--hell, the "traditional" ceremony typically concludes with "by the power invested in me by the STATE of _______") which is one reason why judges (and even ships' captains) have legal authority to marry a couple. A couple married in Michigan is recognized as such by officials in Colorado or Texas or Florida (or even a foreign country) without a need for the couple to REmarry if they move to that new location. The voters don't get to decide for themselves what speed limit they want to drive; the voters don't get to decide for themselves how much tax they have to pay. But who gets the right to marry? Well, THAT has to be decided by the voters.
(Sorry for going a bit OT but discrimination should NEVER be allowed to be enshrined in a state's constitution just because enough voters want to be bigots.)

Marriage is governed by CIVIL authorities in this country (just try getting married in a church without a state-issued license–hell, the “traditional” ceremony typically concludes with “by the power invested in me by the STATE of _______”) which is one reason why judges (and even ships’ captains) have legal authority to marry a couple. A couple married in Michigan is recognized as such by officials in Colorado or Texas or Florida (or even a foreign country) without a need for the couple to REmarry if they move to that new location. The voters don’t get to decide for themselves what speed limit they want to drive; the voters don’t get to decide for themselves how much tax they have to pay. But who gets the right to marry? Well, THAT has to be decided by the voters.
(Sorry for going a bit OT but discrimination should NEVER be allowed to be enshrined in a state’s constitution just because enough voters want to be bigots.)

IDEA: vote now. Go get an absentee ballot and vote now, avoid the mess. Call your city clerk, call your local Repub party, but vote now.
This is bound to be a messy election day. So think about avoiding it. You can still vote; plan to be out of town if you must.
I'm a former Election judge. You simply have no idea how many people vote absentee ballot, for all kinds of reasons. Also, it's not easy to mess with absentee ballots - they have to be carefully checked w/a roster.
And do it before Obama figures out how to keep us from doing that.

I only watch re-runs of Two and a Half Men. If I'm going to witness misogyny I want it to be labeled a sitcom and actually make me laugh. The MSM is dead and gone and banned from my house.
