Red State Update – Ayers [Open Thread]

Just for fun. Red State Update thinks they know why Ayers isn’t a bigger story. First of all, he’s a lame white terrorist who has a living room instead of a cave. Second, he’s a hippy. And third, like every other hippy, Ayers thinks “he didn’t do enough.” Drugs, that is.

“We cannot get people in this country worked up about a terrorist who looks like a surviving member of the Lovin Spoonful.”

“These Donovan records, I could’uv gotten an eighth of ‘shrooms for these Donovan records!”

I think we need an article on how America’s Favorite Terrorist avoided life in prison…

and how his daddy pulled strings for him and his Terrorsit wife…

It would be touching to learn how even an Unrepentant Terrorist can build a career in a great country like america…

it is a great american story…

Ayers is weak because it’s something that happened long ago and the guy turned around and has been in a respectable vocation for the past few decades.

Whereas Wright is still a nutcase.

And Obama just lied his way through Ohio this past summer. And he has no achievement to shadow this or his insulting remarks about the working class when he was in PA.

Those would have resonated a lot more IMHO.

oh really? gee i heard him the other day saying he wish he set more bombs and that in a revolution innocent people have to die….

at the very least he is inciting terror…. promoting hate… promoting violence….

when was the last time Bin Laden was on TV claiming responsibility for bombing? if Bin Laden stays on the run long enough will you be happy to have him teaching at your local community college?

    i don’t think so…

I mean that I think you’ve wrung all you can out of Ayers.
I guess it was ok for the really stupid, uneducated people. But the middle class would be more impressed by real things, like Obama’s hypocrisy, lack of record and inability to keep promises.
His crapping on that woman Senator to get her job pisses me off.
    Ayers doesn’t do it.

  • lute

    What can I say?
You’re right, and American voters are wrong.
    because most aren’t buying it.

I think Ayers would’ve been more effective if he’d been given a punchy handle like “the Madman Terrorist.” or whatever.

I understand everyone who doesnt want the hoax to be president, but what i do not understand is why no one brings up the fact that the dems made the economy go south, they set it up, the clintons did a mtg scandal with whitewater and got away with it, then there was the savings scandal,,and clinton set up this one, notice how over the past years everyones house went up in value like crazy? and now that all those bad loans have come home to roost , destroyed our economy just in time for the dems to take over? come on people wake up..those sweetheart deals dodd, conrad, obama got werent because they were pretty faces, banks wouldnt take that kind of risk without being assured of a bailout..if the economy was fine, obama wouldnt be in the picture…period..voting all these lefties like pelosi and reid who have followed the saul alinsky playbook, will be sorry, they talk a good talk say what you want to hear , and then turn and say things like drop dead, or you dont want what happened to your food supply to the pets do ya? and have gore laugh about it, all the way to the bank,,at your expense!!! wake up people,

It seems like some in America do care about Ayers, including me.

Ayers College Speaking Engagement Canceled Out of ‘Safety Concerns’?
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: This is a “FOX News Alert.” Keep Bill Ayers away. The University of Nebraska is now canceling the speaking appearance by Bill Ayers, the radical co-founder of the Weather Underground. That’s what they’re saying is, Keep him away. Ayers had been scheduled to speak at the university on November 15, but the appearance has just been called off. The stated reason, due to safety concerns.

Coincidentally, earlier today, the governor of Nebraska publicly called for the university to cancel the invitation. Nebraska governor Dave Heineman joins us live. Governor, boy, it seems like a weird coincidence that you publicly say, “Cancel the appearance,” and they say they have safety concerns. Should we buy this? Or do you buy this?

GOV. DAVE HEINEMAN (R), NEBRASKA: Well, Greta, I’ll just say this. I’m glad they canceled the event. Earlier today, I called upon them to do it. Nebraskans were outraged by this. They were very, very angry. And again, I’m just pleased they called it off for whatever reason they want to give.

HEINEMAN: I understand exactly what you’re saying. I’m not saying I’m buying into it, either. But the bigger issue was we wanted this event canceled. Nebraskans, again, they were just angry that a well-known radical like Bill Ayers was being invited to the college of education. There are hundreds of other nationally known experts who can come and speak about urban education reform. And I’m sure that’s what they’ll do.

HEINEMAN: My understanding of it was they wanted to invite him because of his expertise regarding urban education issues. Now, I got to be quite honest, I don’t know why they didn’t go out to Google or Yahoo. They could have done a search and they’d find out just how controversial he is. And again, you know, here was a guy who advocated public bombings — or advocated bombings of public institutions. This was not appropriate to invite him to the University of Nebraska.

And again, I can tell you, donors to the university were outraged. Citizens were threatening to withdraw their kids from the university over this. So I’m glad they acted as quickly as they did.

    !!!UPDATE!!!

The October surprise has been officially changed to January. Expect the whitey tape to surface 1 second before Barack is sworn in. I repeat October surprise has been moved to January.

But seriously folks do you people really believe there is only one tape in existence of the so-called “whitey tape”. And Karl rove, John McCain or Hillary is forcing all the people that had access to the alleged event and recorder and bought the tape to not release it via Fox, Drudge, YouTube?

    How dumb can you get?

Ayers may have did his thing years ago but Obama is the here and now and he is a mirror image of Ayers without a bomb. Look at their philosophies, one writes books about it while the other sits in a radical “god damn church” for years with a wish list and hopes he can fulfill his wishes by becoming president. One tramples on the American flag while the other turns his back on it and then tells us how much he loves it. Ayers is not just an old hippy trying to get along, (that would be Hillary Clinton), and neither is Barack Obama. The only difference between Bill Ayers and Obama is Bill Ayers has the cods to carry out his real intentions while Obama is a damned coward who will depend on his cronies to do the heavy lifting, but both want the same thing– COMMUNISM.

I don’t give a rats ass how long ago Bill Ayers did the bombings. He’s not sorry and even wished he’d done more. Since he doesn’t even have remorse then he has not changed or become a better person. I can’t believe parents allow their kids to attend the college he is teaching at.

McCain campaign accuses L.A. Times of ‘suppressing’ Obama video

The Times says its promise to a source prevents the paper from posting the video, which shows Barack Obama praising Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi at a 2003 banquet. The story first appeared in April.

John McCain’s presidential campaign Tuesday accused the Los Angeles Times of “intentionally suppressing” a videotape it obtained of a 2003 banquet where then-state Sen. Barack Obama spoke of his friendship with Rashid Khalidi, a leading Palestinian scholar and activist.

The Times first reported on the videotape in an April 2008 story about Obama’s ties with Palestinians and Jews as he navigated the politics of Chicago. The report included a detailed description of the tape, but the newspaper did not make the video public.

“A major news organization is intentionally suppressing information that could provide a clearer link between Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi,” said McCain campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb. ” . . . The election is one week away, and it’s unfortunate that the press so obviously favors Barack Obama that this campaign must publicly request that the Los Angeles Times do its job — make information public.”

The Times on Tuesday issued a statement about its decision not to post the tape.

“The Los Angeles Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided to us by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not release it,” said the newspaper’s editor, Russ Stanton. “The Times keeps its promises to sources.”

Jamie Gold, the newspaper’s readers’ representative, said in a statement: “More than six months ago the Los Angeles Times published a detailed account of the events shown on the videotape. The Times is not suppressing anything. Just the opposite — the L.A. Times brought the matter to light.”

The original article said that Obama’s friendships with Palestinian Americans in Chicago and his presence at Palestinian community events had led some to think he was sympathetic to the Palestinian viewpoint on Middle East politics. Obama publicly expresses a pro-Israel viewpoint that pleases many Jewish leaders.

In reporting on Obama’s presence at the dinner for Khalidi, the article noted that some speakers expressed anger at Israel and at U.S. foreign policy, but that Obama in his comments called for finding common ground.

It said that Khalidi in the 1970s often spoke to reporters on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Khalidi later lived near Obama while teaching at the University of Chicago. He is now a professor of Arab studies at Columbia University in New York.

    Who owns the media?
    Super-Concentrated
The media landscape is dominated by massive corporations that, through a history of mergers and acquisitions, have concentrated too much control in too few hands. This leads to a lack of diversity of voices, programming that is out of touch with local concerns and increasingly commercial and homogenized news and entertainment. Further consolidation will produce media in which only the powerful few will be heard.
This chart maps out the control the six most concentrated giants exert over all forms of news, entertainment and information.

    http://www.stopbigmedia.com/chart.php

    Radio
Radio concentration has been rampant in the 10 years since the 1996 Telecommunications Act was passed. Before this legislation lifted caps on ownership, no single radio corporation held more than 65 stations. Today, one — Clear Channel Communications — controls more than 1,200.
Without limits to ownership these radio conglomerates continue to steamroll local radio, buying up independent outlets and scrubbing homegrown artists and news reporting from the air.

    Television
The recent pattern of television station ownership originated in the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which removed a number of limits on station ownership, allowing companies to buy more stations in more parts of the country than ever before.
It raised the cap on the national “reach” of a company owning stations while relaxing rules on common ownership of radio and television stations. Between 1995 and 2003, ten of the largest TV-station owners went from owning 104 stations with $5.9 billion in revenue to owning 299 stations with $11.8 billion in revenue.

    Newspapers and Publishing
Since 1975, two-thirds of independent newspaper owners have disappeared. Today less than 275 of the nation’s 1,500 daily newspapers remain independently owned, and more than half of all U.S. markets are dominated by one paper.

    ** A repost from a previous open thread **

I saw Sarah Palin last night, right here in central Pa. Look, I will tell you that I BELIEVE, in my HEART, that John and Sarah win Pennsylvania and this entire election will turn on my state. In a building that holds just under 8,000 (I know this building, I know what it’s different formats hold) at 9 p.m. on a cold windy central Pennsylvania night, Sarah drew almost 8,000 inside with ANOTHER 3,000 or so turned away! YES! The fire marshall shut it down at that point.

We are the invisible voter my friends and last night, by the Nittany Lion statue in Penn State’s Rec Hall, we ROARED. This woman works a crowd and she speaks to US, Americans, those who remember what America is supposed to mean. I was blown away by her stature and grace, by her ‘reality.’

A wonderful aside. My wife and I were sitting by a wonderful African American woman who told me she takes no end of crap for voting McCain Palin but she said “I will not vote for that racist SOB” (her words, not mine!). “I don’t care what the color of his skin is, that man is a BAD man!” (her emphasis!). We waited in line, with 10,000 others, for two hours just to get in. It was about 30 degrees and windy as hell. We didn’t care. NO ONE did. Everytime someone saw a veteran or a disabled person working their way to the back of the line, someone would grab ‘em and let them cut right in front. IT WAS WONDERFUL!

A last aside: There were about 30 Obama-Cultists protesting (of course) and I heard one say “F***, look at all these people! How can this be happening here?” It was a revelation!

    WE

    WIN

    THIS

    STATE!

Take care, fight, vote, be brave!

Fun update…glad you were there. There’s a nice article this morning on RCP about Palin and how the conservatives know that, regardless of the outcome of the election, Palin will be on the national stage in the future.

I agree. She has withstood one of the most intense smear campaigns I’ve ever seen, and she’s doing a fabulous job for John.

BTW, she’s giving a talk on energy today sometime.

O/T…but there’s a nice article on the polling companies by Jay Cost on RCP. You can find it under his blog.

Cost writes a lot about the polls, and I find his articles really helpful. This one talks about the problems the polling companies (the legitimate ones…not the obvious media polls designed to skew) have run into this year.

It’s a good read for those interested. Dick Morris says that if McCain is within 5 points, he’ll likely win. I thought that was interesting.

  • AnninCA

I thought the state polls were the ones to watch, but there are so many of them this year and no way to possibly guage the validity of the polling, that the best approach I’ve found is to follow the major polls on the national level.

I was wondering when Rasmussen would finally reflect the obvious trends going on.

State polls are always way behind. Best thing to do is keep fighting for the poll result you want and not let the current polls dictate your current behavior.

Look at it this way: two armies are at war. Both armies generals tell their troops “stay focused, we will win!” In the end one army loses. But for that to happen both sets of troops have to believe they can win. Are troops issued poll results?

I let Rove and the pundits worry about polls.

Great link. There is a conclusion that will be posted today(?). Someone has done some great research, but with the Obama Plumbers having done their jobs efficiently, we may never know if Ayers and Obama were connected in New York. my gut check tells me they were, but, Obama knew from the start this was a relationship he could never go public with as a potential POTUS, so like everything else that he has embraced, he discarded, or at least appears to have erased any links to fourteen years of their relationship (from 1981 to 1995) It would seem that he knew it was impossible, although he tried, to disavow any relationship even when it became known they worked together, as did their wives.
If he has worked this hard to hide this relationship, then this is the relationship that bears the closest scrutiny. He did things in his past, that he wants very much for us to never find out about, and Ayers authoring Dreams From my Father doesn’t seem out of the realm either.
Interestingly enough, although the phone books bear out that he lived at one address for four years, there was no investigation that I have seen about where Bill Ayers lived in New York. i would be interested to know if he perhaps, shared residence with Obama, or was a neighbor.
