Honest and Open Election Committee – UPDATED

Yes, McCain has a committee by this name, with Senator John Danforth taking the lead (and Senator Rudman is also on this committee). On October 29th, Senator Danforth held a conference call to talk primarily about ACORN and the problems associated with their activities in this election.

The good senator began by observing the commonly touted refrain that while Republicans are concerned with voter fraud, Democrats are concerned with voter suppression. Senator Danforth’s response to that refrain is that they are opposite sides of the same coin, and neither one is acceptable. The way he sees it is that there are two objectives in terms of voting: those who are eligible should be able to vote freely, fairly, and without fear of intimidation. But, those who are not eligible, for whatever reason, should not be able to vote (e.g., duplicate registrations, length of residency, etc.).

Senator Danforth spoke to the purpose of voter registrations: “

The purpose of registrations is to provide a system regarding the integrity of the election itself, so when it is subverted, it undermines the whole process of doing elections.”

Exactly. And he spoke to the problem of faulty registrations, something I mentioned the other day, too. When states are flooded with faulty registrations, it is disruptive to the system, and raises the strong possibility of fraud. Well, yes – exactly. And that, I think, is the point when it comes to ACORN – flood the system with as many registrations as possible, and hope that not all of the fraudulent ones are found out. Then your candidate stands a better change of “winning.” Senator Danforth referenced the recent NY Times article, “Group’s Tally of New Voters Was Vastly Overstated,” to prove this point. It seems ACORN claimed it had registered 1.3 million people. It turns out, though, that the number of legitimate registrations is – get this – 450,000. Yes, you read that right. WOW. As I said, the McCain camp is clear that ACORN is a source of problematic registrations and other fraudulent activities in a number of states (the Indiana Secretary of State is looking at racketeering charges against ACORN, particularly regarding their activity in Lake County, home of Gary, IN. You may recall what happened there during the Democratic Primary. Oh, and do I need to mention that it is next door to Chicago???)

But here was one of the other things I found to be of great interest on this call. Senator Danforth said that he and Senator Rudman sent a letter to the Obama campaign on September 15, 2008, asking them to work with the McCain campaign to insure that this election was not affected by voter fraud or suppression. The Obama Camp has not cooperated with them. Heck, they haven’t even returned Danforth’s calls! Oh, but wait – the Obama Camp DID say that to highlight voter fraud is tantamount to voter suppression – i.e., RACIST. Okay, that was my interpretation, not Senator Danforth’s, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the use of the term “voter suppression” implies keeping People of Color from exercising their right to vote. (If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. But I don’t think I am…) So, it is wrong for the McCain campaign to be concerned with voter fraud because somehow, in their Obama Logic, that means voter suppression. Uh huh, sure…

Senator Danforth said that if the Obama Campaign won’t work with the McCain campaign, they are hoping ACORN will. When questions were permitted, Mark Halverson asked why Senator Danforth thought ACORN would work with them when Obama would not. Senator Danforth said, “Hope springs eternal!” No kidding – he did. He elaborated on this point, saying that they reached out to the Obama Camp with the expectation that NO ONE wants voter fraud or suppression. If the Obama camp won’t work with them, then they hope that ACORN will turn over documents, and the names of the canvassers responsible for the fraudulent registrations (Hahahahaha!!! That’ll be the day…). Like he said, hope springs eternal that someone will do the right thing. Apparently, that will not be the Obama campaign, though.

Judging from this video, maybe Senator Danforth shouldn’t count too much on ACORN, either:

ACORN has not only have they submitted hundreds of thousands of fraudulent registrations, but apparently, from testimony given in a court case on 10/29 in Pennsylvania, an ACORN worker, Anita Moncrief, affirmed that they have quotas of 20 registrations a day, and that their income is dependent on these numbers. (There is MUCH more in this article, including that Ms. Moncrief’s job was to identify people who had maxed out on donations to Obama, and would steer them to “Project Vote,” a “sister” organization to ACORN. You may recall that Obama WORKED for Project Vote. A post on this article is forthcoming – stay tuned!.) Holy smokes, well, that certainly affirms what many have thought – the canvassers are paid by how many names they have, legitimate or not. As Senator Danforth said, when one’s income is dependent on something like this, it results in high volume, and low quality. True that!

The issue of the DOJ (see “Friends in High Places” videos) came up as well. According to Sen. Danforth, lawyers from the Civil Rights division were being sent out to trouble polling places around the country to insure there was no voter suppression or intimidation. BUT, lawyers from the CRIMINAL division, the ones who look into voter fraud, would NOT be sent out. The claim by the Civil Rights division is that lawyers from the Criminal division would “suppress” the vote. He said that they aren’t gonna appear in windbreakers or anything, “just attorneys making sure the process is working well.” All I know is that the DOJ is failing the very Constitution they have sworn to uphold by not insuring one person, one vote. I could have sworn that was their JOB. But hey, what do I know?!? In fact, the McCain campaign suggested that each camp have people go in teams to trouble polling areas – TOGETHER, that is. But the response from the Obama Camp was * crickets * .

The bottom line of this call was this: the McCain camp feels strongly that voter suppression/intimidation and fraud are reprehensible, and unacceptable – this is NOT a partisan issue, they contend. It affects everyone. They have tried to work with the Obama camp to no avail. And, they are working hard to make sure ACORN does not unfairly influence this election. I’m all for all of that – fair elections, no fraud, no tampering, no intimidation, no suppression, just the ability to fulfill our civic duty to vote for our choice without fear that our vote is meaningless. Too bad the Obama campaign isn’t willing to get on board with the McCain campaign on this.

UPDATE: Alert reader, Tzada, asked for a Fraud Alert Number. Here it is: 866-976-VOTE. This is he number for the RNC’s Voter Hotline. If you see ANY kind of fraudulent activity going on at your polling place, call them. Thanks for asking, Tzada!

  • ACPD

The only way we are going to insure a “fair” election at this late date is to do all we can to help get out legitimate voters. The McCain campaign needs people who are willing to work the phones and give voters rides to the polls on election day. This is no time to sit at home complaining. We need to get out and soldier for honest elections. If we can get out more legitimate voters than “they” were able to get fraudulent voters, we’ll be OK. It may take two of our legitimate voters to neutralize the impact of one of their fraudulent voters, so that’s what we have to do. Get out the vote!

This is from your link, it’s a quote the article cites:

“My friends Ken Follett and Susan Cheever are extremely worried. Naomi Wolf calls me every day. Yesterday, Jane Fonda sent me an email to tell me that she cried all night and can’t cure her ailing back for all the stress that has reduces her to a bundle of nerves.”

“My back is also suffering from spasms, so much so that I had to see an acupuncturist and get prescriptions for Valium.”

“After having stolen the last two elections, the Republican Mafia…”

1 – I LOVE Naomi Wolf. Her jump off the cliff a year or two ago has brought me much enjoyment. She’s absolutely convinced that the US govt right now is EXACTLY like 1930s Germany. She’s not making a comparasion, or a metaphor, or trying to highlight one bad policy.. No she really means it that the policies of the US govt RIGHT NOW are of the same danger as 30s Germany.

I can entertain the notion that the current policies CAN LEAD to such a condition, but it’s absurd to say we’re living in those conditions now.

If anyone wants to listen to her explain her delusions, there’s a really funny interview she did with Dennis Prager who thinks she’s insane yet was very respectful to her and gave her amble time to speak..

2 – I forgot my second point, I got sucked into reading about the interview on blogs when I was searching for the Link to the interview.

Last night I was listening to Hugh Hewitt, who was talking about how Pelosi and Reid refused to allow a vote which add measures to ensure overseas military personnel could cast their vote in the election.

So let me see if I’ve got this straight. Homeless people listing a park bench as their primary place of residence for voting purposes is OK (I think they should have the right to vote, but this sounds like they are asking for fraud!). Ensuring that military men and women overseas who are fighting on behalf of our country can have a say in selecting their next Commander In Chief is bad???

To prove how logically twisted the Obama camp is- lately they have been spouting this gem of a talking point- “Voter suppression is worst than voter subversion”. Huh? What? Acorn is the lesser of two evils; therefore it’s okay? Someone needs a ruler across the knuckles. Both are morally wrong. Both are legally unacceptable. Both undetermine the integrity of our elections.

Slightly off- topic, but is anyone else having a problem with the angst of this election spilling over into their regular lives? excellent post and point but it’s like standing in a forest alone, no one is listening. I personally am not sure if there will be enough of these illegal registrations that will actually result in an illegal vote to make a difference. However, all of the activity needs to be publicized because it is indeed illegal and Obama is mixed up in it to his big ears.

OT, I was watching Fox news this morning and two things…

one, a kid about 8-10, was caught on camera stealing signs, He had an Obama one in his hand and was trying to steal a McCain one too. The owner said he’d already had 2 signs stolen and he’s an electrician. So he wired the sign to his electric fence and when the kid grabbed it, he got a little shock. His parents complained. If I had done something like that when I was a kid, my Mom would have spanked my butt for stealing not complaining about me getting a little shock.

Second, early exit polling has McCain ahead by 4 in Florida. Don’t know how reliable that is, just what I heard on Fox news this morning.

I heard the ACORN whistleblower who testified in federal court against ACORN on a radio program yesterday. She testified that the ACORN divisions monies/resources intermingled – against the law, voter fraud registration fraud expected (ACORN field supervisors always in charge of the voter registration drives to shield blame on higher-ups) and lax oversight the norm, and BOTH DNC and Obama donor lists SHARED with ACORN! ACORN was just an arm of the Obama campaign – this woman supports Obama, but she said ACORN was supposed to be non-partisan and it defintely wasn’t, and was knowingly engaging in illegal activities.

I don’t think is ignored. The media is saying that it is being igonred but that is not true. It just gets people even more determined. The pundints on TV don’t understand what it means to get your base fired up. McCain has to get his base so fired up that they drag everybody they know to the polls. Add the PUMA vote into that and we will have a very pleasant Nov 5th.

If we go back as if nothing has happened, then WE are the idiots.

We have serious issues that need to be addressed:

    Media-integrity, honesty, accuracy

    Voter Fraud

    Caucus Fraud

    Campaign contributions-tracking & verifying

    Serious campaign finance reform

Invasion of privacy by state employees (for partisian political reasons)

Neither our faltering economy, nor the war in Iraq undermine our constitution and country that way the above issues do. Imho, these are the most serious matters before us. If we don’t fix them now, then this election is only the beginning.

    I’ve become the enemy.

    I’ve evolved this election.
I was democrat for Hillary, then an independent for McCain.

I loved Taylor Marsh until the end of May, when I sensed I had to go.

I came to No Quarter, and have loved the articles here and often commented.

Now, I find myself watching Fox News exclusively, if any TV news at all, and today of all things, I added National Review Online to my bookmarks.

I find I love the articles there too. They bash Bush’s shortcomings there, but George Bush is not the Republican Party anymore. John McCain is, and I say with HillBuzz, “We love this man.”

Hillary and Bill are no longer the Democratic Party anymore, Barack Obama is. As Bill said, “Barack Obama is the future of the Democratic Party.”

Until and unless this guy is defeated, I become the enemy. I am a Republican who is proud of my country and proud of John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I don’t think it’s ignored. We’ve long known that people give SOME weight to past associations, but not as much as you guys think. People tend to vote on the issues and an intuition of who is most trustworthy to deliver the goods after the election.

Joe the Plumber zeroed in on the issue of taxes and redistribution. Like many people, he took time to read. Actually, Obama’s claim that 95% will get tax break (right now?) is enough of a red flag to most any voter right now.

The trustworthy factor is where associations play a part, and it’s really not about the associations themselves but how the candidate responds.

What’s different, I “think,” is that this year….people aren’t quite sure how to interpret Obama. That’s because of his race. This is a first for people. Should they disdain his church because Wright was shocking? Well, maybe that’s not entirely fair. Should they disdain his past associations? That might not be fair, either, given AA candidates’ fundraising paths are totally different. Ditto for Rezko. Every politician seems to have his/her “Hsu.”

What McCain is doing, effectively, through Sarah is piling it up. That nibbles away without allowing Obama to get back in to make it into a race issue, which always is a win-win for him.

    McCain is closing very well.

BTW….very interesting polls on the states this morning. The tightening seen in the national numbers is now showing up, with McCain back in the lead in MO in one. Dead heat in VA. Back ahead in NC. Etc.

This election has really impacted my life. My boyfriend and I are both strong dems and were brought together in part because of that. Then I was for Hillary and he was for Obama because “I just think with his popularity he is gonna win and she is so divisive”. (oh, really?) so fast forward to May when I announced that I absolutely would be voting McCain if it wasn’t Hillary. Bf seemed ok with it until Hillary, in her convention speech, said we should back Obama (at least that is how BF heard it). I said nope. Sorry, Hillary doesn’t get to tell me what to do. Holy crap, since then he has lost it. I think he truly was ok with it for months because he thought ultimately, I’d come around. Well, when Hillary suspended, I didn’t come around. When the RBC met, coronated Barfy, I didn’t come around. When Palin was chosen, I was supposed to hate her because she wasn’t Hillary and is pro life and has 5 kids, one with down syndrome, and I didn’t come around. then came the convention and Hillary supporting That one, and still I didn’t come around. That was truly the last straw for him. We are not ended yet, but we are hardly speaking either. I hate it. I hate Obama. I hate election 2008 and I try to figure out why my BF is so blind to what is really true about his candidate. I truly am just waiting for this nightmare to end, but I have no idea if and when it really will. If McCain wins, I may be forever the enemy. It sucks. I have also let go of 2 friends this year as they have shown how truly sexist they are because of Palin and I could not take it! This is insane and my relationship is probably forever changed if not dead. Regardless of what happens Tuesday, I will have a little more nightmare to go through and if the worst were to happen, well, that pigbama will never be my President. Never!

    Go McCain-Palin ’08
    Love RIP!

    I LOVE SEAN HANNITY!!!

This is the guy who deserves to be the Journalist of the year.

TIME Magazine ought to make Sean the Man of the Year.
Never gonna happen, but if Americans could do the selecting, you’d be my choice Sean.
We need more real American Heroes like this guy, people who are not afraid to do the right thing.

EXPOSE THEM ALL!!! Five days left…and counting.

  • csuzeq

He will be indicted in Operation Board Games by then.

don’t underestimate McCain-Palin going after him either!

  • Mollye

HaHaHa…thanks for the laugh. Poor, poor baby.
Can you believe the nerve of Jane Fonda? She should go cry with the Communists.

  • AnninCA

I frankly don’t think Erica every had it to lose.

She’s never been wrapped too tight.

  • Pennsylvania Red

I try to figure out why my BF is so blind to what is really true about his candidate.

Have you ever asked him what n0bama has ever accomplished that qualifies him to be POTUS?

  • ginaswo

    hey csuzeq!

it has been a rough two years with this campaign

thankfully Nov 4th the American people will speak for a change and if we can GOTV I believe we will overcome the margins of cheating by ACORN and Obummer thugs

may be a delay to Inauguration while Obummer whines in court, but I am confident we will win

and the scales have fallen from my eyes, no downticket blind loyalty ever ever again

and those who were willing to throw friendship family values whatever under the bus for someone with no record and a bunch of questionable associates, well they werent good for us anyway

Nancy Pill-osi needs to go. I was so excited about her being the first woman Speaker of the House. Now I am just plain livid. Go away Pelosi. Just go away!

Ha Tuppence – last night I was treated with incredible disrespect by a cashier – and this is the 3rd time it happened. I couldn’t stand it any longer. I actually called the manager to complain. I can’t stand it any longer either.

  • AnninCA

Cindy Sheehan, in my opinion, is a bit of a nut. I can’t see Pelosi losing to her.

There was one woman candidate who looked really good early on, but Sheehan’s name value overshadowed her.

    Too bad.

Ha Tuppence – Last night was the 3rd time I was treated with incredible disrespect by a cashier. For the 1st time in my life I actually complained to the manager. I can’t stand being stepped all over any longer.

  • AnninCA

I had an opposite experience. An AA gentleman was in line before 2 white women. The proprietor looked at me….and I was last in line….and said, “You next?” LOL*

Maybe I have an aura right now. Anyway, I said, embarrassed, “No, that gentleman is next.

Good gravy, the guy was at the counter with his money out.

People can be so darn insensitive.

American Thinker has this on voting fraud – and had someone taken us seriously after the Primaries this sh&t wouldn’t be happening. It’s really infuriating.

Happy Halloween! The dead are voting in Florida
    Ethel C. Fenig

Florida–the miracle state, where senior citizens go to retire and live forever.

Well it is happening, sort of, according to Florida station WFTV, Channel 9.
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Thousands of dead Floridians are registered to vote and some in Central Florida had ballots cast in their names long after their deaths.

You just got my hero of the day award. Thanks. we need more people like you.

  • witness08

Do you have any facts to back up that statement?
    This saddens and angers me.
The victimization of the elderly is appalling.

  • Tuppence411

Typical Barky. Use ‘em, mistreat’em, and throw them under the bus. I remember reading during the primaries that the Obama Campaign was charging outrageous prices to the media- gouging- like $22.50 for a cold ham and cheese sandwich. Then we heard the plane was smelly and dirty and that the staff was rude and condescending. Kept them in the dark, always late, last minute changes to the schedule etc…. Now he is kicking off the ones that are no longer useful. Geeze ‘um and the majority of press is still in the tank for him. The media must suffer from battered wifes syndrome.

so you are Trolling for other Dems too? not just Dear Leader?

you still haven’t given us your verdict on how “cute” and “creative” and “respectable” the lynching in KY was?

    still waiting…

    a. hillary
    b. mccain

    america first!

    I, too, feel like you.

I used to read every Liberal book as soon as it hit the presses. I despised Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich and Ann Coulter.

I awoke one day this past spring with a dirty feeling everytime I told someone I was a Democrat.

One day I went to the car wash, and peeled all my Democratic stickers from my car.

I had started watching Fox News during the Primaries, and the more I listened, the more I thought: “These people aren’t crazy; I’ve been the crazy one”

I, too, have become the enemy of people and family members who I once was close with.

I am still cordial with my neighbor, an avid Obama supportor. I often want to show him the things I’ve learned and ask him to consider changing teams, but what I realized is this…

the reason we are where we are now, is that something clicked inside us.

We are driven by a different set of values than many of our former Democratic friends.

Did I see these philosophical differences before? No.

Obama has not unified the country. He first divided the party, and now he is dividing the country.

Do I think that was the intention? Yes. There has never, in my personal memory, been as great a divide in the American psyche as the one we are now witnessing.

Hitler did this to the Germans, and there have always been throughout the ages, divisive leaders throughout the world.

Perhaps, Lincoln divided Americans back in his term of office, but I strongly suspect he was not the cause of division, the country and a different philosophy among it’s people was the source of seperation and resulting war.
He was just the unfortunate man who had to deal with the problem.

While we fear war with other nations, we must now except the fact that there may have been ushered into the country, an unthinkable prospect.
We could witness a civil war again here in America.
I shudder to think of all the lives that could be lost if that possibility is realized.

  • Madison

And John McCains knows Obama-Acorn and the polls of the democrats election people who are out to take the people’s votes as they did before.

I can see us 1,000 no-million times worst then Chicago Ill!
