The Biden “Gaffe”: A “race” for the soul of the next President? [update]

Update note by editor: Steve Diamond is a professor of law and expert in global economics. His blog is “Global Labor and Politics.”

Just when you had wished you had indeed heard the last of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, it turns out they are publishing a new manifesto described in brief on Amazon.com.

What makes the book blurb – this one apparently not written by their long time, umm, colleague, co-education policy wonk, fellow intellectual and, yes, neighbor Barack Obama – worrisome is that it links what Ayers and Dohrn say is America’s continuing sin, racism and “white supremacy,” with their views on war.

In other words just as Barack Obama moves to the White House, these two destructive figures out of the past are about to advocate an entire new world view for America built around their curious race-centric obsession. Presumably this will be an opportunity to peddle, one more time, their Third Worldist clap trap which mandates that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

This narrow and dangerous thinking is what led Ayers, Dohrn and others in their camp to embrace figures like Castro, Ortega, and Chavez even as they trample all over the civil rights of their citizens in order to maintain their authoritarian hold on power.

[Editor's note: See Uppity Woman's October 28th article here, "RBO: Team Cuba” — Ayers, Dohrn, just “two political activists” from Obama’s neighborhood, visited Cuba in September 2008.]

(Hmm, was it Bill Ayers, now apparently a foreign policy thinker, who suggested sit downs between President Obama and dictators like Ayers’ friends?)

Nothing has done more damage to the efforts of genuinely progressive forces on the left attempting to change America’s foreign policy in a peaceful and democratic direction than those who advocate the embrace of figures like these as the way forward for the world.

Perhaps the appearance of this manifesto, however, helps put some of the recent comments of Obama running mate Joe Biden in a more comprehensible context. Biden was widely criticized for suggesting that an Obama presidency would be “tested” by a foreign policy crisis soon after taking office. The comment was dismissed by most as yet another Biden “gaffe.” Yet that criticism did not stop Biden’s camp from defending the comments made to a Seattle audience.

In light of the willingness of Obama backers like Ayers and Dohrn to now more openly express their own views on foreign policy, built around their long standing view of America as a racist nation, Biden may have felt a response was called for – a kind of shot across the bow, if you will, of the third worldist/neo-stalinist element in the Obama camp.

No doubt the assumption among Biden confidantes is that the election is over and the battle for the soul of the Presidency is on. It cannot be viewed without concern by mainstream figures in the liberal internationalist wing of the Democratic party that discussion about the connection between Ayers and someone like the Palestinian academic Rhashid Khalidi has now emerged.

It has long been known that Khalidi and Obama were close, but given Obama’s connection to strong supporters of Israel that could be dismissed as an attempt to absorb perspectives from all sides.

But it turns out that while Obama and Khalidi have often had dinner together and the Khalidi’s, indeed, did babysit the Obamas’ kids, Khalidi and Ayers are even closer – Khalidi credits Ayers with providing some help writing a book, for example.

The Woods Fund on whose board Obama and Ayers sat awarded tens of thousands of dollars in grants to a foundation on Arab American issues run by Khalidi’s wife.  When Khalidi left his teaching position at the University of Chicago in 2003 to take up the Edward Said Chair at Columbia, Obama spoke at a dinner in his honor. Ayers and Dohrn, some say, were also in the audience. A videotape of the dinner is in the hands of the Los Angeles Times but they have refused calls to release it.

Of course, over the past few years one of the central foreign policy issues where cries of “racism” have been used is to attack US foreign policy towards Israel. While Khalidi seems to stop short of the formulation by some that “Zionism is Racism,” he does argue that Israel’s policies are “systematically racist.”

Just as Ayers and Obama have endorsed ideas based on reparations for American slavery, Khalidi backed the idea of discussing reparations for American slavery alongside of what he called Israel’s “racist” policies as part of the UN’s World Conference on Racism in 2001.

Tragically, no third pole between the traditional Democratic party’s neo-liberal internationalism, on the one hand, and the neo-Stalinists’ “America is a racist nation” viewpoint, on the other, has emerged in this campaign except a rather feeble effort by the Nader ticket.

No evidence, of course, that Biden cares about that, unfortunately.

Obama defined $97,000 income as “upper class” and subject to $1 Trillion in tax increases in debate and in policy proposals

Obama is on the record on this, both verbally in a debate, and in writing in his Op-Ed.

See him state it in video of debate:

If we kept the payroll tax rate exactly the same but applied it to all earnings and not just the first $97,500, we could virtually eliminate the entire Social Security shortfall.” – Op-Ed by Barack Obama, Quad City Times, Sep., 2007

This narrow and dangerous thinking is what led Ayers, Dohrn and others in their camp to embrace figures like Castro, Ortega, and Chavez even as they trample all over the civil rights of their citizens in order to maintain their authoritarian hold on power.

That describes Obama as well. In his pursuit to assume the role as president in order to, as he says, “transform” America, he has violated the most fundamental principle of our democracy–one person, one vote. For all his talk of transparency, he is on a par with George Bush when it comes to secrecy, access, and control of his carefully crafted and marketed image. He has spent obscene amounts of money to buy the presidency, as he mocks the greed on Wall St. and in Washington.

They are hypocrites, obsessed with their own importance and power, as they preach their concern for the “least among us.” Let me guess: Ayers lives in a mansion too.

  • Typewriterstreaming

It makes me sick that more than half this country either doesn’t care about this or certainly doesn’t care enough to crawl out of their CNN/MSNBC cocoon to find out – and we are all going to have to sugger the consequences of this.

  • Paul

This is great comedy and is reaching for straws.

Not matter what your political view it is difficult to argue that Obama has not done everything right in his life. He certainly pulled himself up and made something of himself. Give him a break.

It is fine to have a different view and argue on policy and the role of government, but this stuff is garbage. All the negativity is taking down the Republican party and ruining McCain’s legacy.

  • Pennsylvania Red

$97,000 is the HHI of two middle school teachers in most districts around here.

  • Ryan

I find the book laughable considering how Ayers and Dohrn used privilage to stay out of prison.

    http://thirdestatesundayreview.blogspot.com/2008/10/rehabilitated.html

Those not fortunate enough to have a rich benefactor (Thomas Ayers, Bill’s father) didn’t get off so easy. And those who didn’t have a rich benefactor greasing the wheels of Chicago politics and were African-American had no White privilege.

Rehabilitation implies that someone has made up for their actions. Not only have Bernardine and Bill never renounced their acts (and in Weather Underground, Bernardine makes it very clear that she still supports violence), they’ve had no period where they’ve ‘served’ in any way. They didn’t serve time behind bars, they didn’t serve time within their community. Thomas Ayers bought them jobs and they did their jobs very well. But whereas a Black Panther might have to overcome serious stigmas, Bernardine and Bill landed nice and cushy immediately.

It does go to White privilege and for two who decried it to turn around and use it to their benefit smacks of hypocrisy. In 2007, the police were still going after the Black Panthers for an alleged action from 1971.

  • pj

And now a CBS/New York Times poll has an 11 point lead for Obama (Rasmussen has a 4 point lead). Larry Sabato predicts an over 300 electoral college vote landslide for Obama. I just don’t understand how the majority of Americans can vote for such a dishonest, lying candidate. It makes no sense to me at all.

  • Obama is a Fraud

One cannot deny the common theme of Obama’s long-time associates/friends. The Obama campaign has been successful at getting the public to overlook or discount this fact.

For better or worse, our free society allows scum like the Ayers to thrive, but it is sad the price for their rights has been so high!
These people relish their freedom, but wish to trample the ideals of this country.
Those who think Ayers is an advocate for them may find themselves victimized as well!
    Good!

Marxists know that they cannot persuade the so-called proletariat to take part in a violent overthrow of capitalism because those people are too well off and comfortable, relatively speaking (because of capitalism). They aren’t starving, have decent clothes and have homes full of things like TVs, microwaves and video games.

So instead, their idea is to persuade people that their country is a horrible, mean, oppressive place. In this way they hope to provoke a non-violent, “cultural” revolution and to get people thinking in the Marxist way. Their goal is to stop people thinking about the positive aspects of their country – our freedom of speech, our equality under the law, the fact that we have the best opportunities in the world, etc – and instead get them thinking that we live in a country full of evil and injustice.

Race is a cheap way to achieve this. It’s an issue which the Marxists know inspires lots of easy emotion, tension and anger. By constantly pushing the idea that we’re a country full of racial injustice, they hope to draw the gullible into their influence by convincing them that the only “solution” to this hideous pit of injustice and evil is to adopt Marxism.

They also use class and gender toward the same goal. This is why the left is so obsessed with identity politics. It’s about creating the perception that we’re all at war with each other and then to blame that war on capitalism and sell the idea that we’ll only unite in harmony under a Marxist system.

This is why the likes of scum like Ayers and Dohrn frame their Marxist propaganda in racial issues.

I live in New York. Every single time there is a protest march about a racial issue, the whole event is taken over and dominated by local communist groups, who print signs with their logo saying things like “end racism – embrace communism.” Race is to them a “hook” with which to reel in impressionable followers.

  • AnninCA

    Impossible to judge, really.

Biden is a disaster, in my opinion. He’s a buffoon.

No wonder he showed so poorly in his own presidential races.

  • BernieO

Click on the Amazon link and read the reviews. They talk about Ayers and Dohrn as if they are people to be admired. Disgusting.

In addition to their murderous acts it was radicals like these two that so scared mainstream America that they turned their backs on Democrats for years and trusted guys like Bush more than Clinton. The damage is ongoing.

  • Andy

Great post Steve Diamond; thank you!

Is this teh book dedicated to Kennedy’s assassin? Or which one is it?

  • John Smith

I know but it sounds very possible.

  • Benjamin

Well, I’m at the point where I think the appropriate question is: are there any past associations or friends of Obama who are NOT wacky, America-hating radicals or criminals? (crickets) That’s what I thought.

Whether the MSM approves or not, I think the obscene dishonesty of Obama and his campaign matters to a lot of people.

A recent LA Times/Bloomberg poll is pretty interesting in regard to Florida early voters. So far, Dem ballots outnumber the GOP 56-39%; however, McCain is leading Obama 49-45%. This can be none other than the effect of Hillary Democrats (go PUMAS), and it’s not surprising. Hillary supporters from FL remember all too well being disenfranchised from having any affect on the nomination.

And the MSM coverup !! Obama has been living in a bizarre world of friends. One has to wonder where are the “normal” friends of Obama ?? He seems to have none.
The problem for the public is that they look at his present “entourage” and Obama has been working in covering his tracks with his bloody partners
since entering the US Senate in 05.

The MSM has been utmost disgraceful…

  • AnninCA

Personally, all of us have “narrow and dangerous” thinking if we were given total power.

I find Ayers and Dohrn just to be fairly typical leftover 60′s lefties. They are also obviously tapping into a market that is growing…minority.

The part I find dangerous, personally, is stimulating a culture war. Heaven’s, we fought one war over this. We have made huge strides with the help of the past liberal courts. And we obviously aren’t having any real problem sharing power with minorities who have a broader appeal than just their own small worldview.

But then, I stated I agree with that funny Red State video when the guy said, “Ayers isn’t really a big story to most people because he looks too much like a guy from the Lovin’ Spoonful.” *haha

    RE: OBAMA CAMPAIGN DONATION SCANDAL!!!!

The donation-processing software/company that Obama uses is called NGP, located in Washington. This should be able to lead someone into finding out whether or not the Obama campaign PURPOSELY disabled verification requirements for the name and credit card to match.

A company like that putting out this service is guaranteed to have all the checks in place. They have a lot of clients, and if they missed this, they’d be facing a lot of liability.

They serve only democrats, and a lot of democrats — http://www.ngpsoftware.com/clients

IF THE VERIFICATION IS IN PLACE ON ANY OF THOSE OTHER DEM’S WEBSITES, THEN IT POINTS TO THE FACT THAT THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN INTENTIONALLY REMOVED THOSE REQUIREMENTS. OR ASKED NGP TO DO IT FOR THEM.

    FROM THE NGP WEBSITE:
KEY FEATURES OF NGP CONTRIBUTION WEB PACKAGE™:
    Accept secure online contributions
Capture all FEC and/or state required information in customized forms
Customize preferences pages by setting donation minimums/maximums, amount option buttons, custom language, defaults, etc.

    THE POINT:
INVESTIGATING NGP, THEIR SERVICES, AND THE FEATURES OF THEIR SOFTWARE COULD BE KEY IN FINDING OUT IF THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN WAS INTENTIONAL IN CREATING LOOPHOLES IN THEIR PROCESS IN ORDER TO WIDEN THE FLOW OF INCOMING CASH

I just don’t understand how the majority of Americans can vote for such a dishonest, lying candidate.

It ain’t gonna be a majority and 0bama ain’t gonna get anywhere near the White House.

They can put out all the “it’s gonna be an 0bama landslide” propaganda they want – everywhere they want. It ain’t gonna work and McCain will prevail!

Take a look over at Hillbuzz – the 0bama camp knows they’re losing (heck, they even know they may get only 60% of Hillary’s voters in some places) and they’re gonna be pulling out all the stops to get phony “0bama’s doing well in states even we thought were out of reach – could be a blowout, folks!” – translation – McCain voters might as well stay home – it’s over.

Pay no attention to the creep behind the curtain, even though he looks big and bad and overwhelming. The only chance they have is to get people to believe the lies and stay home. Make no mistake, though, the “0bama’s ahead, 0bama’s gonna win” crap is just that.

I have a very personal beef with Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. My best friend , Tony Hall and his brother lived at 20 W. 11th street , NY.NY. DURING THE YEARS 1968-1970. they lived in a five story townhouse and their bedrooms were in the basement/garden level of the house. is was THE hangout for many of us kids from the area and P.S. 41 primary school is just down the block. In those days we all hung out on Tony Halls stoop and in his back yard. IT WAS OBVIOUS TO BILL AYERS AND BERNADINE DOHRN THAT MANY,MANY KIDS WERE NEXT DOOR to their bomb FACTORY! In fact, if it had not been a school day and and Tony, his brother Billy and the rest of us would likely have been murdered by Ayers sloppy operation. “collateral damage” to the children of “WHITE RACISTS” I was home sick that day, March 6th, 1970 .The early spring was on its way and the birds were singing in the gray late morning in anticipation of warmer days ahead. I was anxiously waiting for my summer vacation in Provincetown which was never to be as my parents divorced in May of that year. I lived a block away and when I heard the first huge blast I thought it was an earthquake and I ran down to see what happened when more explosions followed. My horror was when I saw a once beautiful townhouse at 18 W. 11th. Street almost completely destroyed and a huge fireball rising into the sky… Many emergency vehicles were arriving by the minute and I could not speak …This was my block. MY BLOCK!!! THIS BECAME MY OWN PRE- 9/11 HORROR STORY! I did not go to school for the rest of the month and went to the site everyday watching body bags come out .The guys there got to know me and I remember how they meticulously sifted the debris for evidence finding a finger more than a week later. I have never been the same and I was not yet 14 but my child hood was also blown up that day March 6th 1970. My friends bedrooms were completely demolished next door by the blast that blew a hole through the double thick brick wall . The kind of person to build a bomb factory right next door to a kids hangout Is not even human and this is why Bill and Bernadine extol the “virtues’ of the likes of Hamas and Hezbollah when the blow up school buses and discotheques in Israel and elsewhere. bill and Bernadine are Barack Obama’s FRIENDS! I do not hate anyone but I love my country and Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn are American by birth but NOT BY FAITH AND LOVE FOR THIS GREAT NATION! Bill and Bernadine hate all of us and they only love the grim reaper of destruction and dispair……. baracks friends.

I meant no criticism. The point to me is that there are valid questions coming up that raise the issue of just how would Obama actually govern.

He obviously comes from left-leaning roots. Yet, frankly, except for a few moments in Illinois, he avoided leaving behind a record of that. He talked big from a liberal left side in the primary and then swiftly moved to the center in the GE.

    We simply can’t know.

From an election standpoint, I’d say that raising the QUESTION about this is what will work best. Over-play that card, you’re into playing the race card. Underplay that card, you’ve not raised doubts among centrist non-deciders.

But to assume that Obama is like Ayers? That’s way too big of a leap, frankly. There’s no evidence of that other than they were associated.

Hence, my comment about association stories.

    Hope that clarifies.

FoxNews just said undecideds are 1 in 7 voters this year. They also said that Democrats are more “persuadable” than republicans. Good sign, I think.

McCain will take most of the undecideds. Even voters who are not much in-the-know about politics are having unsure and kinda (or very) creepy feelings about 0bama. Who’s gonna vote for a guy for President of the United States if he gives them the creeps – even a little bit?

Nope, they’re gonna vote for “the devil they know” (McCain) or not vote at all (or 3rd party maybe). But not for 0bama.

Can’t wait to watch him throw a hissy fit at his first press conference as president should someone ask a pertinent question. You know, like something more challenging than what he had for breakfast. If he wins. On one level, this might be amusing.

Better yet. Let’s all get out and vote for McCain!

  • Urban Hillbilly

Certainly understandable for a Floridian to early vote! I would– to make sure I had time to correct a pregnant chad or figure out a butterfly ballot!

    A consideration about the polls:

How many democrats no longer consider themselves dems, but independents after the primaries? (In other words, how many people left the democratic party?) If this number is unaccounted for, pollsters are “over” surveying to get to the % dems they need per survey.

Also, % of people identifying as republicans increased right after the selection of Palin for VP. (3-5% came back to the republican party after the pick.)

So, are the polls sampling the correct % of dems, reps and Indys? Or are the survey firms %’s outdated?

  • SJ

I don’t know why Tapper printing Obama’s list now, he was part and parcel of one of the main advocates for Obama.

If Obama wins this election and cannot deliver and that results in causing a lot of anger and disruptions in our society the media will have to shoulder this blame fully.

I honestly feel we are all sitting on a time bomb if Obama wins, I am dam sure some members of the public are not going to tolerate Obama dancing and pandering for the next 4 years, if Obama feels he is going to get a free pass like Bush on some issues he better think again.

I also hope if Obama wins I never hear anything in my life again about equal rights for black, affirmative action, black being left behind and all that nonsense they love to push, all should be equal now, even game no more playing of that convenient race card.

  • Elle

Your question was the same as mine.

I agree. I think that may be one of the issues.

The polls obviously aren’t much of a guage right now. From 2 to 13? That’s ridiculous. That means that the RCP average just isn’t relevant this year because they are including all the media polls as well as the usual national polls.

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem

In an interview with either chicago Magazine or Crain’s, cannot get access to either publication anymore, Ayers and Dohrn talked of their days of hiding and something at the time did not make sense, but does now, they mentioned that they vacationed in Hawaii while being fugitives in the late 1970′s. While being fugitives, they were under the protection of associates and friends of Tom Ayers who did circulate in the 1940′s and 50′s via community foundations that all considered Frank Marshall Davis as a celebrity in their circles. It is also documented that the Communist Party of the USA funneled money to help support the Weather Underground and who was a memeber of the CPUSA, Frank Marshall Davis.

Obama also mentioned during an interview a few weeks ago about his mother and grandma taking him and his sister to Disneyland and Chicago when he was 10 yrs old, but according to timings from Obama’s mother’s timelines, it would have been in 1972. Now why would Obama’s mother take him to Chicago, a place she had no ties with or ever been before?

The only common tie to everything with Chicago radicals and Obama’s mother and granny is Frank Marshall Davis, who was regaining notariety thanks to some Chicago friends in the early 1970′s.

Wish had time to refind links, but you can on the Google time machine search engine!

With all due respect, that “enemy of my enemy is my friend” is NOT “third worldist clap trap”. It was the same principle by which this country based its whole Cold War policy.
“You’re a right-wing dictator who likes torturing your people? Hmm. I don’t know about that. America stands for some pretty high moral values and, what’s that? You’re staunchly anti-Communist? Well, fine. That’s just fantastic. I’m sure those people you torture must deserve it.”
This country sided with the likes of Chile’s Pinochet, Iran’s Shah Reza Pahlahvi, the Philippines’ Marcos, and numerous military juntas (Greece, El Salvador, Argentina) all in the name of battling the evil Reds. Then, after the Shah was toppled, we backed Saddam Hussein’s heinous regime against the evil mullahs of Iran.
We fucking helped start the damned Taliban, by financing the Afghan resistance against the Soviet-backed regime in the 1980s. All in the name of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”, and look where that got us. A regime that ultimately would give bin Laden a base of operations (incidentally, after he’d been expelled by Sudan–another country where we overlooked the government’s shortcomings in the name of realpolitik).
And look at Africa. Tacit support of South Africa (and ignoring its apartheid policy) since it was anti-Communist. That support of South Africa put us on the side of independence movements in Mozambique and Angola that were no better than the organizations they were fighting (other than being non-Marxist groups). When an African state tried becoming too independent of US policies, we retaliated by cutting off economic aid or actively supporting opposition groups who would be more open to being our puppets.
Hell, if you want a good example of how NON “third worldist clap trap” the idea of “enemy of my enemy is my friend” really is, go look at the military alliances developed in EUROPE before WWI. Italy, Germany and Austria were allied (even though Italy had long-standing disputes with Austria) while England, France and Russia were allied (despite England’s overall worldwide competition with both of its “allies”; Iran had large chunks of its territory designated as “spheres of interest” by both Russia and England–Russia wanted access to a safe year-round port while England wanted to completely prevent Russia’s access to the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean). In WWII, Hitler was outraged at Mussolini for his premature attacks against Albania and Greece (even before the official outbreak in 1939) but felt bound by treaty obligations to support the actions. Hitler had signed the anti-Comintern pact with Mussolini and Tojo (intended to be the precursor to a worldwide fight against Communism) but then Hitler signed a non-aggression pact with Stalin just months before the invasion of Poland. (Interesting strategy in fighting Communism–sign a non-aggression pact.) And, despite the British and French pledge to defend Poland against ANY aggression, neither Britain nor France declared war against Stalin when Russian troops moved into the eastern half of Poland.

He certainly pulled himself up and made something of himself. Give him a break.

Soertoro/Obama was giving many “breaks” by life; starting with a mother whose parents and/or “mentors” were rich enough to fly her from Hawaii to Washington state with a newborn baby!

He was fortunate enough to have his mom on foodstamps before the program was even started, yet attend a prestigious private school in Hawaii after returning from Indonesia where he lived with his wealthy and connected Indonesian step-father who adopted him.

He was fortunate to have well connected “mentors” to fund his education and law school and to fall in with the wealthy elite Chicago “movers and shakers” like Ayers, Rezko and other influential Democratic leaders in Chicago who decided to make him a presidential candidate.

Give me a break; if most of us had the kind of “help” Soertoro/Obama has had throughout his life we’d be running for president, too, instead of just being middle class workers trying to stay afloat!

Fox plays a huge role in what’s wrong with the media today. They were too successful with their partisan talking head shows.

    The mainstream media followed along.

Now, we have nothing but people screaming at one another.

I noticed a lot of you guys loved the last “screaming” interview. That’s become the ideal for a “tough” interview.

Well, not to me. I think it’s simply rude behavior. Badgering the witness, so to speak.

I’m an adult. I know a non-answer when I hear it. I want my journalists to ask really well-thought-out questions. And let the answer stand or fall on its own merits.

I do NOT want some bubblehead who squeaked through J-school and has good hair as her/his main attribute in life to scream at people or, in turn, tell me how to interpret words.

OK….I’m hoping that will be my rant for the day.

In short, I hate all those programs, all the bias regardless of the station, and consider all of them a necessary evil at this point.

I NEVER watch CNN. Katie Couric has driven me up a tree since she got the job. She met every low expectation I had plus a lot worse. I like maybe 1 person on Fox. I wouldn’t consider watching MSN.

In short, it’s only PBS for this gal or the internet and news from RCP and other blogs that offer a variety of viewpoints.

I will say this. The one good thing I see is that Fox got some liberals to watch this year. And they are hearing the “flip-side” arguments.

I’ve always sought out a spectrum. I want to know what the “other side” is thinking.

So that is the one thorn in this rose.

Race was Frank Marshall Davis’s “hook” in Hawaii. He was sent to Hawaii by the Communist Party specifically to agitate on white vs. non-white as a tool for communism to take the (then) Territory. The task was to take over the powerful shipping port labor unions. The entire economy relied on shipping (shipping sugarcane out, and everything else in).

One of the main communist leaders in Hawaii finally defected and stated that we VERY nearly DID lose Hawaii to the communists. The communists wanted Hawaii, because of the strategic location & military.

I have read many excerpts from the FBI report of Frank Davis’s writings for the communist paper (The Record) in Hawaii. Much is anti-white based.

Obama learned communism & anti-white politics at Frank Marshall Davis’ knee.

  • MMI

People like Ayers and Dohrn are the some of the biggest racists and elitists. They use the liberties and freedoms allowed by this nation to hold down the democratic aspirations of non-whites in the world.

Racists like Dohrn and Ayers thinks freedom of speech, property rights, and the right to select one’s government belongs only to rich, white radicals like themselves and dictators of color. Given the opportunity, most people in Cuba, Venezuela, Burma, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other Middle Eastern nations, want democratic forms of government and greater individual freedoms. Racists like Ayers and Dohrn are trying to hold them down.

Obama calls $1 Trillion tax hike a “small adjustment” by re-defining $97K family income as “upper class”

I found a video clip in which Obama totally redefines what middle/upper class income is and who should pay more taxes. He is quoted on video. I think this is newsworthy, given the current focus on Obama’s plan to tax a larger number of families. The video shows Obama directly stating this. It is far less difficult to interpret than, say, the Chicago NPR audio-only about redistributive change. This is a video that’s ready-made for a campaign spot and for video news releases. All people will understand it.

In this video, Obama defined $97,000 family income as “upper class” and subject to $1 Trillion in tax increases in debate within the last year and in policy proposals. He also makes a similar claim in writing in an Op-Ed (see below).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-SavgJlBLA

The key minute: Watch from 1:15 to 2:15 for Obama’s remarkable claim that $97K family income is “upper class”

Of course there are other videos of this same debate, Nov 2007, Las Vegas from which you can clip these quotes, but this one just puts in the context of Obama/Biden redefining Middle Class income from $250K to $200K to $150K to $97K is “upper class.” and the top group—and subject to big tax hikes.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3638710&page=1

I wonder how many families with 2 or 3 kids in middle class suburbs of our major cities would consider their $97 K income to be “upper class.” If any of those kids plan to go to college, the families will hardly be living like the upper class on $97K.

    Obama’s Op-Ed

    http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2007/09/21/opinion/opinion/doc46f35dac127eb409456532.txt

“… raise the cap on the amount of income subject to the Social Security tax. If we kept the payroll tax rate exactly the same but applied it to all earnings and not just the first $97,500, we could virtually eliminate the entire Social Security shortfall.” – Op-Ed by Barack Obama, Quad City Times, Sep., 2007

    Firefly:

I agree; look at this full article:

    http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-changeable-voters

    Among other things it says:

One in seven, or 14 percent, can’t decide or back a candidate but might switch, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo! News poll of likely voters released Friday.Who are they? They look a lot like the voters who’ve already locked onto a candidate, though they’re more likely to be white and less likely to be liberal. And they disproportionately backed Hillary Rodham Clinton’s failed run for the Democratic nomination.

Almost four in 10 persuadables lean toward McCain, and about as many are considering backing Obama, while the rest are either undecided or lean toward other candidates. Viewed another way, about one in every 10 supporters of Obama or McCain says he could still change his mind.

Even so, persuadable voters could be especially fertile hunting ground for McCain in the closing days of a contest in which most polls show him trailing. These people trust Obama less than decided voters do to handle the economy, the Iraq war and terrorism. They are less accepting that the Illinois senator has enough experience to be president. And by a 17 percentage-point spread, more see Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin favorably than unfavorably, unlike the narrow majority of voters already backing a candidate who dislike her.

And this is from Yahoo; that has been shilling for Obama. So… if they say so; it must be even worse for the BO camp.

I was looking at the poll numbers on Real Clear Politics tonight and noticed an article titled “The Final Days” authored by Susan Estrich. I clicked and she’s discussing that the polls indicate Senator Obama should win but if he doesn’t – she can come up with only one reason:

The only way all these polls could be that far off is if people are lying in numbers never before seen in American politics.

    Why would they do that?

You tell me it has nothing to do with race. I’ll laugh. What else could it possibly be?

I’m so tired of this. I’m a liberal tree and bunny rabbit hugging independent who is more likely to vote for the Democratic candidate over the Republican. I’m informed. I spend hours researching every candidate and proposition on my ballot. In this election, for the presidential slot I’m abandoning my political ideology to vote for Senator McCain. I’ve been honest about it. And I’ve been called a racist. When I didn’t jump on the Governor Palin bandwagon and thought there were some flaws in her choice that wouldn’t lock in all the Clinton supporters, I was a troll.

Now along comes Ms. Estrich. She’s an intelligent, skilled woman and one I wouldn’t want to go up against in court. She’s decided if people are pretending to vote for Senator Obama to avoid the backlash I’ve experienced, they must be racists. It couldn’t be they don’t want to defend their choice on the unfair and ridiculous allegation that they’re a closet racist.

People have valid, legitimate reasons for choosing any other candidate than Senator Obama, none of them based on race.

    1. Some are scared he’s a socialist. If he is, it doesn’t bother me.

    2. His associations and friendships with a platoon of questionable, far left or criminal individuals worry many people. I’m not one that thinks because a person hangs out with X people, they hold X views. I like having an eclectic group of friends and family – it keeps my mind open to other views and learning. However, we’ve ending an administration where the right wingers have had their hands out pocketing hundreds of billions of dollars. I don’t know if Senator Obama holds the same views as his associates, but I do know they have financed and promoted his career for over twenty years and they are going to expect to have more Federal funds funneled into their pet projects. Our economy can’t handle doing the same for the left wingers. It’s not fair to the neolibs that the neocons got so much of the pie, but there’s no crumbs left for the neolibs. They should have gotten their act together in ’04 and rigged that election instead of this one.

    3. Other people are worried about his possibility of dual citizenship. If he does have dual citizenship, my guess is the Supreme Court wouldn’t rule that it prevents him from being president. For me, this isn’t a major issue but for many it is.

    4. Many people don’t like his tax and spend plan. I’m not excited about that either. But I’m not betting the farm that my taxes won’t be raised one way or another under a McCain administration.

    5. Senator Obama finished his schooling over sixteen years ago and try as I might, I can’t find anything he’s done in any of this careers that is noteworthy. No one comes forward to even state that he was always able to get the copy machine working when the light with the little guy with the wrench lit up. They mention granting money or using his position as a state senator to funnel money into different programs – but every single one of those programs either brought about insignificant changes or ended up as a dismal failure. I’m supposed to believe he’s a success because he was editor of a law review. I was on the law review in law school and I know the editor in chief is usually the person in the class who excels at balancing brown-nosing with back stabbing. Not a skill I find admirable.

    6. Senator Obama shows an inability to admit he has or has had associations and friendships with people who aren’t mainstream America. He mitigates the relationships and tosses people under the bus. His friends can’t trust him, he tosses them out when they become a liability instead of standing up for his choices. If your friends can’t trust you, the nation can’t.

    7. Senator Obama has an aversion to a free press and free speech. He trounces on it whenever things aren’t going his way. If he’s unwilling to answer the difficult questions and face the music of his choices, he should be in another line of work.

Reasos 2, 5, 6 and 7 are why I’m not voting for Senator Obama. I’d like to vote for a Democratic candidate for president. I really would. I even like some of his ideas and plans. The problem is, I don’t know which ones he really plans to follow through on. And if he does, I have no idea if he would have any success, there’s no track record of successes.

I love that I Iive in a nation where both the neolibs, neocons and moderates can battle for control of the White House. I’d vote for a liberal candidate if I thought the candidate would do more good than bad for the country. Senator Obama, didn’t clinch the deal with me. I’m not afraid to say so, I have a tough shell. Many people don’t, they don’t want to be called racists when they aren’t. If they’re lying to the pollsters about who they’re voting for, it’s not because they’re racists. From what I’ve seen in this campaign, the racists are pretty upfront about why they won’t vote for Senator Obama. The ones who don’t volunteer they’re voting for Senator McCain over Senator Obama do so because they don’t want to be lumped with the racists. Look at how the lady who said she thought Senator Obama was Arab was treated by the news and SNL.

Unfortunately, Ms. Estrich has confirmed for me that it probably would have been better if I’d lied and said I was supporting Senator Obama instead of letting everyone know I’m not voting for him. If Senator McCain wins the election in the wee hours of November 5th, when I take my McCain sign down from my yard later in the day, I will be branded as a racist. It doesn’t matter that my reasons for choosing not to vote for Senator Obama has nothing to do with his skin color or ethnic background, I’m a racist because I chose REAL issues in this campaign to base my vote on.
