Nancy Pelosi has come out with another whopper. Honestly, I just do not understand how this woman can be so clueless, but well, she is. She is now claiming that “there is a war on women,” discussing primarily issues related to choice. And of course, this “war” is perpetrated by the Republicans. Really, Rep. Pelosi? The “war against women” is JUST the Republicans?

See, I ask because I remember not too long ago, your party, under your leadership, did a pretty fair job of warring on women, too. You, personally, supported a far, far less qualified, experienced man for the highest office in the land over the far, far more qualified, experienced, smarter woman.

Who could forget this exchange between then-Speaker Pelosi and Greta van Susteren after the Democrats, especially Pelosi, managed to drum Clinton right out of the race? I know I can’t forget it:

[snip] VAN SUSTEREN: Let me first focus for a second on Senator Clinton. She is back on the Hill today, and many people email me and say that she is the victim of sexism–not all, but many. Did sexism play a role in this election for her, number one? And number two, I know this morning you were quoting as saying that you, sometimes, have encountered sexism.

PELOSI: I think every woman who is making progress in gaining power is probably a victim of sexism. I can’t document what happened in the presidential campaign as I am too busy being Speaker of the House and running my own races for Congress to retain and grow our Democratic majority in the House.(Emphasis mine.)

But I do not think that there is any question that there is some evidence that there was sexism in the campaign, but I can’t tell you if that is the reason why Senator Clinton won or lost.

She made a great showing. She advanced to the cause of women enormously. We were thrilled with her candidacy, not just because she is a woman, but because she is a woman with great intellect, great dedication, great stamina, that she proved she could be president of the United States.

But there was an election, and I think that Senator Clinton benefited greatly by the enthusiasm of women, there is no question about that. And I do not know what the impact of the sexism and was. I know it is a sign of insecurity on those who exercise it. I do not know what the political impact of it was. [snip]

Well, former Speaker Pelosi, let me just remind you of the scope of sexism then-Senator Clinton received, and other women, as well:

So, yeah – there was just a bit of a war against women in 2008, one perpetrated by the very ones now decrying a “war against women.” Pelosi herself contributed to it by her very actions toward Hillary Clinton, and her very support for the man who ran a sexist campaign against Hillary Clinton.

Are the Republicans above being sexist? Of course not. But they should also not be singled out for a “war against women.” Democrats share plenty to blame in that regard. Using the whole issue of choice as a constant stick to keep women in line while the top Democrat, Obama, invites members of the then-outlawed, Sharia-law demanding, “Modesty police” directing Muslim Brotherhood, while attacking OTHERS is just a bit of a stretch. At least it is for me.

How about you?

Well, Ferd, oh, I read your comment thoroughly….and I made a comparative….if tax dollars is good enough for the goose, it is good enough for the gander.

    …..AND THEN THERE IS THIS:

    The FACTS ARE IN!

As a result of a Judicial Watch filing under the Freedom of Information Act, the USAF released documents detailing House Speaker Pelosi’s use of United States Air Force aircraft between March 2009 and June 2010. The data are published in the Judicial Watch Verdict of December 2010, Volume 16, Issue 12.

Here are the main highlights revealed by the USAF.  Keep in mind that all the data below relate to United States Air Force aircraft used by one woman over a sixteen month period.

Several of these flights included Ms Pelosi’s guests such as grown children, grandchildren, various in-laws, friends, and hangers-on.  Over 95% of the trips were between the west coast and Washington, DC or what we might call a commute between home and the office.  READ it and WEEP!!

Total trips: 85 trips over a 68 week period or 1.25 average trips per week.
Total mileage: 206,264 miles or 2,427 average miles per trip
Total flying time: 428.6 hours or an average of 5 hrs per trip
Cost to the taxpayers: $2,100,744..59 or $27,715.00 per trip or $1,285,162.00 per year
Cost of in flight food and alcohol: $101,429.14 or $1,193.00 per trip or $62,051.00 per year.

On one junket to Baghdad, according to the Air Force report, she had the aircraft bar stocked with Johnny Walker Red Scotch, Grey Goose Vodka, E&J Brandy, Bailey’s Irish Creme, Maker’s Mark whiskey, Courvoisier Cognac, Bacardi Rum, Jim Beam Whiskey, Beefeater Gin, Dewars Scotch, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Jack Daniels Whiskey, Corona Beer and several varieties of wine.  This was obviously a very important trip.

Amy, your blog is the only I take the time to read on NoQuarter.  You are always right on.

I now think that all politicians, male and female become brain dead once in office.

I was a clinton supporter, but no more.  Her assault on Arizona just blew my mind.

At this point I just want anyone with a brain that won’t cave in to washington, to run things.

There has always been assaults on women from the beginning of time. I am older, single, and run my life without any men. I am a happy single female who has no desire to hear what any man thinks.  They bore me to tears.

Well, rw, why don’t you actually read my comment before you go down hysteria lane. Planned parenthood can get needed money privately. You like Planned Parenthood–then YOU and YOUR buddies can support it. Do you get it now?

Thanks, JB. I appreciate it. Yes, when you see some of these videos and all of the assaults on Clinton, it is just amazing that these people can act like they give a damn abt women. As many of you have noted, we know better…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

But wait – are you saying Reid is NOT concerned abt the Cowboy Poetry Festival being cut?!? 😉

  • JB in VA

Excellent post, RRRA — I hadn’t seen that video before. It really gets the point across well.

  • JB in VA

HelenK and RRRA – I think the main reason the Dems didn’t do the budget or vote on ending the Bush tax cuts before the midterms is because they were still in denial about how severe their losses would be in November, and they didn’t want to give Republicans any ammunition that might imperil their re-election. There’s not a principled bone in any of their bodies.

  • Onofre’s arm

No Binky, Reid doesn’t truly believe it. In fact, I doubt that most of the outrageous hyperbole that has gushed from the mouths of the shameful democrats is actually believed by the assholes who gushed it. The problem is, they know fully well that there are enough nitwits, dumbasses, and kool-aid delirious scumbags, like surfered, out there who DO believe their bullshit, so they’ll keep dishing it out.

The Democrats have nothing but shit sandwiches to offer, so they’ve mastered the art of making people believe that shit sandwiches are tasty. So, the next time you see a car with an Obama sticker on it, you should smile when you realize that the driver eats shit.

  • rw

watched the clip above and seethed with hatred toward the dems. for the 2008 assault on HC…and silently vowed not to vote Dem. in 2012….no matter who the canidate is (except HC). Then I read the posts and vowed not to vote Rep. either…scary….

‘if a woman wants reproductie rights, she can pay for it herself’
suppose she doesn’t have it? back alley, tough shyte, should of abstained, etc, etc. How about if a man over 65 wants a boner, he should pay for the chemical inducer himself…why does basic Medicare pay, without questions, for viagra and company, but not for eye wear, dental care and hearing aids…..oh, a boner is more important than an unwanted pregancy….in the US open-minded equlity driven (not) society

  • BINKY

Harry Reid is a joke.  Does he really think women believe that cutting Planned Parenthood will deprive his wife, daughter, and granddaughters of needed health services?  What a crock of sh**!

  • BINKY

If Boener does have to “give in on  the planned parenthood thing” to get more spending cuts now, with a Republican majority in the Senate in 2012 and a continued majority in the House, we can draw back funding from Planned Parenthood then and we might get some meaningful spending cuts overall.  And I’m sure we’ll all moan and groan then, but if we are to strengthen our country, we have to handle the debt situation.  It won’t be pretty to most of us, but I pray it will be effective.

  • CarlyinNJ

    Still LUV YOU HILLARY!!

  • CarlyinNJ

Suffered Said “Republicans want their women barefoot and pregnant.”
Now, Suffered that is just an ABSURD Comment!!
Here is a FACT that exposes your stupidity Suffered
Former Gov. Christie Whitman, a woman and a Pro-Choice Republican was elected to two terms in New Jersey by other Republicans (Independents and Democrats).
Democrats have used Reproductive Rights to control women for decades and fortunately women are no longer falling for this pathetic ploy.
The Obama “Thugs” including Pelosi used every sexist tactic in the book against Hillary Clinton in the Democrat Party Primary. Thank you RRR Amy for the excellent video; it brought back the memories of those evil deeds and the evil doers.
POTUS Obama and his Comrades in the White House care nothing for women. Ironically, I believe that it will be women voters who will ensure that Obama does not get a second term as POTUS.
THIS TIME, WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!!

  • EllenD

I understand that no public monies goes to abortion. This seems to be repeated quite heavily these days. Hyde amendment. If this is actually true why are they doing this ?
Anyone seen a credible analysis on this?

  • EllenD

The social riders are not necessary at this time, again IMHO.
What really strikes me as careless and folly is to take our national security and put it on the line because of “social” issues. This is irresponsible, and note these soldiers are the only ones in harm’s way that are not getting paid-how does that look the world over, especially if one is eyeballing the United States in a less than  favorable light,.

Once again, you hit the nail on the head, Katmoon.
I note that there are many women here, most of whom had experiences with friends and family regarding birth, death, and abortion. They know that living as a woman can be complicated and I don’t see any one of us pointing fingers at other women for their choices in their lives. It is more like “There but for the grace of God go I.”
However, as one observer to the discussions on the social riders noted – there were no women in the room.

  • Onofre’s arm

I’ve always thought that Nazi Pelosi wasn’t as enthralled with Obama as much as she was passionately in love with the idea that she would remain the most powerful WOMAN in Washington. The first Queen bee to emerge from her cell immediately goes to the other Queen cells and kills the occupants before they can emerge and challenge her. Obama would become her drone, the role he was bread for.

  • Obama: Dubya 2 Electric Boogaloo

Her district is a liberal’s wet dream. The extremely rich in the north half of SF, and the poor in the east and south eastern side of the city. The more working class sections like the Sunset and lower districts are part of the peninsula district that runs down to Palo Alto I believe.

Thanks SSDD and all.  Yes, I am not very objective, but she is adorable (and a handful).  I can’t scan a current picture of her, but she is a long-legged, red-headed Pippy Long Stockings, but, much, much cuter.
My views on abortion are fickle.  I accompanied my very best friend to have an abortion when she was date raped at 17, 30 years ago.  That event changed her moral compass, and mine as well.  She had an unexpected pregnancy at age 34 and gave that baby up for adoption.  She never went on to have more children after she married.  We have discussed many times if she had it to do over again, would she change those 2 events.  On the abortion, yes, on the adoption, no.  I concur.  But, abortion in the case of incest I still stand by.
Now that you all know me too well, I am going to look for a funny joke or photoshop!

whahadi, you need to go back and watch your idol Chris Matthews.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Harry Reid, the one who called Kirsten Gillibrand the “hottest” member of the Senate is a defender of women’s rights?

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You know, Reid had a very low rating from NARAL. There ARE Dems who do not support abortion. I would have more respect for him if he was more honest abt his position now, and not using this as political fodder.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I am in awe at the depth of this discssion. Thank you all.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

AH, yes – having to wait three whole days. You know, I had a friend way back when whose father was an ob/gyn and owned a clinic. They had a number of counselors for the women, but also, women had to take time before having an abortion. It wasn’t a same day kind of thing.

The decision to have an abortion is an intensely important one to make. Taking some time to make it seems to me the best course of action in any event.
