Go away, Ann, your comments are not helpful. I live in a neighborhood full of Obama signs, but I have “Democrats for McCain” sticker on my car. I don’t feel the need to apologize to anyone. You keep talking about nuanced arguments but your arguments are nothing but nuanced – they are just plain condescending. FDR had to ally himself to Stalin in order to win WWII – THIS IS LIFE! If you want to keep your “purity”, this is probably not a good place for you. In real life you get dirty sometimes.

You dont know anything of what you speak. 1) Real compassion has nothing to do with government it has to do with the life you lead. On that account your messiah loses McCain wins. John McCain gives 30% of his income to charity, Cindy McCain gives millions of millions to charities and poor around the world, the McCain’s adopt strangers in who are hurting and poor. Obama gave 6% of his income to charity (a third of that was for his racist church), he ignored his destitute brother, his impoverished aunt and starving grandmother as he lived in his 2 million dollar, ill gotten mansion on Chicago’s fashionable south side. Joe Biden gave .3% of his millions to charity.
2) george bush never “taxed the poor to feed the rich”, he cut taxes for the rich from 39% under Clinton to 35% (oooo, what a slashing 11%) while cutting taxes for the working poor from 28% under Clinton to 15% (almost a 50% tax cut).

3) I think it is fair game to call Obama a socialist when he was a member of the Chicago New Party (socialist) when he was in Chicago.

Think of it this way. What do you pay in SS taxes every month? Lets say $200. When you start collecting ss, will you only be getting a check for $200 a month? No, you’ll be getting a check for $1200 a month. Where does all that extra money come from? It comes from people who have kids, educate kids, teach their kids values, and then the kids grow up and work hard and pay out $$$ so that retirees can enjoy their social security benefits.

I’m starting to think SS is a ponzi scheme. But what the heck, its what we have right now.

I chose to have children. Why should a neighbor who chose not to do so pay higher taxes than me.

Because when my childless neighbors reach 65, MY children will be paying their social security.

I chose to not put money in the stock market. Why should I pay more or less than those making capital gains?

Because when I invest in the stock market, what I am doing is making money available to corporations so that they can improve their infrastruction and expand. So, I’m supporting our growing economy. If you are hiding your money under your mattress, you are not supporting economic growth.

I chose to buy a house. Why should the person who rents have to pay higher taxes than me

Because ownership encourages people to take care of their property. If you don’t believe this, compare any slum apartment building, to any suburban neighborhood. People who have a stake in their home will work harder to maintain it, work harder to get more equity in it, work harder to be more prosperous. Owning a home (or condo or whatnot), is good for our country.

Lawmakers uses taxes to encourage some behavior and discourage other behaviors. Works pretty well when they have the best interests of our nation at heart. Who know how that will change with a Dem pres and Dem congress. Well, yeah, we do know how it will change…one only has to look back at past administrations (dem or rep) where one party controlled everything.
