ATTN LGBT VOTERS: Barack Obama Is a Triangulating Homophobe

How else does one explain the following?

Obama told MTV he believes marriage is “between a man and a woman” and that he is “not in favor of gay marriage.”

At the same time, Obama reiterated his opposition to Proposition 8, the California ballot measure which would eliminate a right to same-sex marriage that the state’s Supreme Court recently recognized.

“I’ve stated my opposition to this. I think it’s unnecessary,” Obama told MTV. “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that’s not what America’s about.”

In other words, he will triangulate on the backs of gay men, lesbians, transsexuals and Others in a vain attempt to curry favor with Christian conservatives and other assorted homophobes who will never vote for him. Some will call Obama’s heteronormativizing discourse nuanced, while those of us who are LGBT will view it for what it is: unrestrained and untempered homophobia couched in subtle but nonetheless injurious terms. Besides, his personal opinion on the matter is irrelevant. Indeed, it is a constitutional problem, a Civil Rights problem, not a problem of Barack Obama.

Barack Obama has a long and elaborate history of homophobia, while Sarah Palin, the Republican Vice Presidential candidate, has a record of vetoing homophobic legislation and of defending the rights of same sex couples. I revive an article I wrote on this subject last month:

——————————–

BARACK OBAMA’s COMPULSIVELY REPEATED GAY BASHING RISKS THE LOSS OF A KEY VOTING BLOCK

Obama never had the support of the LGBT community. Indeed, 63% of LGBT Democrats supported Hillary Clinton during the California primary, while a paltry 29% cast their votes for Barack Obama. I imagine LGBT support for Clinton was equally strong in other states, for according to a poll conducted last November, this constituency favored Clinton by a staggering 41 point margin.

There are reasons the LGBT community supported Clinton over Obama: Obama refused to be photographed with Gavin Newsom in 2004, when the San Francisco Mayor was the center of a national uproar for his support of gay marriage; Obama participated in a gay bashing “Gospel Tour” in South Carolina with Donnie McClurkin, an African-American minister who views homosexuality as a disease Jesus Christ can cure; Obama cites his Christianity when he mentions his opposition to gay marriage in his text entitled The Audacity of Hope; Obama stigmatizes and minoritizes gay marriage when he refers to it as such in his political speeches and texts; Obama admits to seeking spiritual counsel from a certain Rev. James T. Meeks, a homophobic minister in inner city Chicago who was named by the Southern Poverty Law Center as one of the “10 leading black religious voices in the anti-gay movement;” Obama refuses to march in gay pride parades; and Obama will not allow himself to be interviewed by the LGBT press. Because Obama has a record of homophobic speech, actions and affiliations, the LGBT community rallied behind Hillary Clinton. And they may rally behind McCain-Palin, for Obama’s continued disrespect for this constituency will compel many LGBT voters to reconsider their support for the homophobic Democrat.

Obama, according to The Advocate, will launch a gay bashing “Faith, Values and Family” tour with homophobic Catholic legal scholar Douglas Kmiec. I quote with added emphasis:

The Christian Broadcasting Network is reporting that the Obama campaign next week will kick off “Barack Obama: Faith, Family, and Values Tour,” designed to woo the votes of left-leaning Catholics, progressive Evangelicals, and some conservative mainline Protestants. If LGBT people find the tour eerily reminiscent of the South Carolina gospel tour the campaign arranged last year with antigay “ex-gay” gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, their instincts may not be far off.

CBN names Catholic legal scholar Douglas Kmiec as one of the religious surrogates who will hit the road stumping for Obama. Kmiec wrote a June 13 op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle supporting California’s Proposition 8, the ballot measure to ban same-sex marriage, titled “On Same-Sex Marriage: Should California Amend Its Constitution? Say ‘No’ to the Brave New World.” Kmiec’s first two sentences in the piece read, “The California ballot initiative intended to set aside the state supreme court’s judicial invention of same-sex marriage deserves public support. Maybe it is enough to say, as many do in conversation, that it merely re-secures a millennia of tradition and common sense.”

Obama, in other words, will campaign with a legal scholar who believes “a millennia” of “tradition,” “common sense” and homophobia should be preserved. Kmiec, by the way, is the former constitutional legal counsel to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. Republican jurisprudence is the change in which the LGBT community can believe, I guess.

But it gets worse, for Kmiec writes the following in his 13 JUN op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle. I quote with emphasis added again:

Separating marriage from procreation may also have other remote, but frightening, ill consequences. Society should be skeptical of wider use of asexual procreation. An earlier dark moment in U.S. history employed eugenics to forcibly sterilize the mentally disabled. The push for artificial wombs and the genetic manipulation of intelligence already peppers scientific literature – a push that would no doubt grow, accommodating even the minimal same-sex desire for simulating natural child birth – claimed to be of interest for 20-30 percent of same-sex couples. When carefully assessed, the acquisition of unnatural reproductive means often advances the interests of the very affluent through a libertarian exercise that would threaten all hope of democratic equality.

According to Kmiec, gay marriage is a harbinger for a social eugenics that manipulates the human genome in the name of maintaining social hierarchies. A threat to democracy, the LGBT community in Kmiec’s warped mind is attempting to eliminate the heterosexual population. Raising specters gleaned from science fiction novels, Kmiec stokes the fires of a fear of a queer planet.

For some reason Barack Obama finds this entirely acceptable. Indeed, Barack Obama desires to use the campaign funds he has collected from Democrats and from members of the LGBT community to give this Catholic legal scholar of the lunatic, Republican fringe a platform in Colorado, Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Florida, New Mexico, Virginia and Wisconsin. If we witness a spike in hate crimes against the LGBT community in any of these states before votes are cast in November, we will only have Barack Obama and Douglas Kmiec to blame.

We also know who to blame if Barack Obama loses the general election. For the LGBT community does not take too kindly to gay bashing in the name of garnering votes from Evangelicals and other conservative Christians. Barack Obama never had our votes, and he certainly will not gain them if he continues to terrorize devout Christians with the specter of a queer planet.

Obama, by the way, refuses to attend LGBT Democratic events: Michelle Obama was the one who addressed the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Council of the Democratic National Committee in New York City in June, and she was the one who headlined the lunch for LGBT delegates in Denver during the August convention. Barack Obama was nowhere to be found. But then again, the man who has received spiritual guidance from homophobic ministers probably fears that the audience would try to genetically clone him into a gay man.

How odd it is that the Democratic Presidential candidate is a gay basher and the Republican Vice Presidential candidate is a woman who vetoed anti-gay legislation. While Obama is routinely criticized in the LGBT press for his homophobia, Sarah Palin receives accolades from Gay.com for joining the cause of the ACLU and nine homosexual couples employed by the state of Alaska and by the city of Anchorage. Perhaps the LGBT community is one of those constituencies Barack Obama and Donna Brazile believe they can shed as so much toxic waste from the Democratic Party’s past. If this is the case, then I guess the LGBT community should consider supporting the McCain-Palin ticket. After all, Palin supported the community while Obama was bashing it with Donnie McClurkin and Reverend James T. Meeks.

And now Obama will bash the community with the former legal counsel to the Bush and Reagan administrations in 12 states. While this may yield one or two Evangelical votes for Barack Obama, Obama’s continued and unrestrained gay bashing will also result in tens if not hundreds of thousands of LGBT votes for John McCain and Sarah Palin. For similar to the Evangelicals and conservative Christians Obama and Kmiec will court, the LGBT community votes ALL our values.”

Also see Reverend Amy’s essay on Barack Obama’s second gay bashing tour.

—————————————–

Read Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy’s essays for more compelling reasons to reject and rebuff Barack Obama on the grounds that he is a raging homophobe who has a long record of bashing and exploiting the LGBT community.

Because Obama has a pattern of demonizing the LGBT community in a vain attempt to gain the support of Christian conservatives and others who will never support him, I ask the LGBT community to cast their votes for McCain/Palin or for a third party candidate who actually supports the community.

A vote for Obama aids and abets the gratuitous gay bashing of a representative of a Party that has traditionally defended our rights and freedoms. If we desire to ensure LGBT will have a voice in the Democratic Party, we will reject Barack Obama. It is really that simple.

I don’t get why any gay people would support His Nothingness. I have already voted against him, but many of my friends support him for reasons I cannot fathom. They believe his crap, I guess. I, however, worked in nightclubs in Chicago, had a Chicago booking agent and am real good at figuring out who the lying pieces of **** really are. Them, not so much. I do hope they’ll come to their senses before voting. Nobama is a bait and switch as far as I’m concerned- Hillary was really our friend & advocate, not Barky.

Now he can go to HA and never comes back. Save the USA. Go out and vote.

I didn’t think his Grandma was on her death bed, really. I guess she was, after all. At least, I hope that’s what happened. So why didn’t the rest of the family go when he did, if she really was that sick? I just don’t get these folks at all.

Apparently the Obamabots forgot about his anti-gay tour with Rev. Flegler last summer. Like they forget all his red flags.

Fox said Obama was told at 8 am this morning that she passed away, so why is FOX only bringing the news now?

Was it not today that Obama was out there giving McCain the finger, I only hope he is not using this event as a sympathy ploy timing when the message gets out to obtain votes, that would really be sickening.

Anyone who trusts a demagog who says he’s for gays as gays rather than on a just leaving folks alone basis needs to read up on the night of the long knives. Good——–maybe this is a sign that G-d doesn’t want him here to glow about the win, that is if he wins, hopefully he doesn’t. If Obama wins, let us face it, it is the cheating that has helped him. Especially in Florida. Throwing out ballots- intimation at the polls from african americans is terrible down here. I have heard from many friends that black americans are voting with anger. I don’t quite understand this because there are republican african americans that don’t like him. I have alot of republicans black friends and they said to me that they have to be quiet because “in the face” is given to them if they disagree. What has our country become? I once told you guys that I am from the military- my father was a military man and when we were stationed in SC, the blacks would not allow me in their schools and I had to go to white schools. I was beaten up, spit at, called the N word- and I hold not anger toward these ignorant people. This race is about value, about patriotism, about capitolism and about our land. And, it is ashame when even the colored folks like me and the black republicans cannot even speak. G-d help us!

I keep saying if Obama wins a lot of Media houses like FOX and maybe some of these blogs better watch out.

    Menendez threatens Cavuto on Fox
    Fox News Live | 11/3/08

Sen. Menendez was just on Fox on Cavuto’s show. Cavuto took Menendez to the woodshed regarding Obama’s insane plan to raise taxes by over a trillion dollars to pay for the already announced Reid-Pelosi-Obama butchering of the US economy once they’re in power.

Cavuto noted that Reid-Pelosi have already announced the insane multi-trillion dollar tax increase to pay for their litany of insane leftist programs, including bankrupting politically incorrect businesses, hugely increasing foreign aid to socialist hell holes, destroying the coal and nuclear power industries, and raising taxes on “the rich” (anyone making more than $42K/year).

Cavuto then went through each of Obama’s tax proposals regarding businesses and personal income. Mmemendez, robot-like, with that glazed donut expression we have come to associate with all Obama droids, tried to tell Cavuto that Cavuto was wrong in criticizing The One’s plan for utopia.

Cavto was having none of it, and, item by item, showed how Menendez/Obama were just lying or just plain stupid. Mmenendez did not like this. After several minutes of Menendez trying to give an Obama stump speech about Evil Business and how The One would destroy business “for the good of the middle class,”

Menendez finally lost that glassy smile and, as Cavuto gave him one more spanking on still another Obama idiocy, turned to Cavuto and said, “I hope you are not one of the ones forced off the air”

  • Diana

Found this also his Nevada State director died yesterday. Obama hasn’t even released a statement to his family on his death. Bloomberg did. The man died working himself to death for Obama, only 44 years old. Obama doesn’t even have the decency to address his death? Send his family condolences? No. He goes on campaigning after his grandmother’s death like no one would understand. The woman that raised him, cared for him. Sent him to private schools. Was he even upset at these rallies of two people close to him? What is wrong with him? Does he trully not care about anyone, but himself? Has he no empathy at all?

Terence Tolbert, Barack Obama’s Nevada state director, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday. He was 44, and a former senior aide to New York City schools chancellor Joel Klein and mayor Michael Bloomberg.

  • csuzeq

I’m not sure that guy died of a heart attack either. He probably told someone the polls don’t look good and it wasn’t received well, or maybe he needed to get something off his conscience.

  • Andrew P

I’m gay but I’m personally agnostic when it comes to the tedious national religion of identity politics. Other issues are more important to me in choosing a president: health care, energy independence, the future of Social Security. (Not to mention honesty and integrity.) That said, I appreciate this post. Senator Clinton walked the walk when it came to the LGBT community. She was the first First Lady to march in a Pride Parade, and vowed she would do the same as President. She spoke out time and again on behalf of tolerance and equal treatment. Barack Obama hasn’t even bothered to vote “present.” Governor Palin has done more for people like us in Alaska than Obama has ever done or ever will do. I suspect that he’s one of those liberals who privately despise gay people, and I would prefer an out and out hater any day—at least you know where you stand. It’s worth mentioning that the excellent PUMA website HillBuzz is maintained by some very savvy and very patriotic country-first Democrats who happen to be gay.

I also think marriage is between a man and a woman. However, we should not restrict two consenting adults from entering a union of their choice with full and same benefits as married couples. All law pertainign to traditional marriage should equate with same sex unions.

Perhaps gay people can just come out with a creative name to descrive their union. On the other hand if marriage is extending to gay people, then perhaps we who are not gay can come up with a new name to describe our union. Here is my suggestion:

    Marriage = man + woman

    Mariage = Same Sex couples

    Or

    Marriage = same sex couples

    Mariage = man + woman

Notice how I use one letter (R) in each case. Same pronounceiation but slighly different spelling.

This is further proof Obama is someones hand puppet. All the Hope and Change crap has been fed to him and he is his own ROBOMAN. When it comes to how Obama interacts with the LGTB community he is the real Obama and shares the black community’s beliefs about homosexuality. Its wrong, and unmanly so Black LGTB are treated horribly by their own people. Another group that will suffer from the real Obama: Latinos. He wants their vote but will not support them. He is in fear of the fact that Latinos will soon surpass as the “minority of importance” and Blacks will loose jobs, clout, position. Black on brown issues are well known in large communities, and Blacks are not happy with the growing Latino population.

I’m glad someone else had the courage to ask unpleasant questions about Bobo’s grandmother and the reported death. Bobo lies so much that I myself have wondered if ANYTHING said about granny is true. We haven’t seen a recent picture, and the couple of photos of her purported to have been taken when he was a very young man don’t look like a woman who would have been in her late fifties at the time. I heard recent reports that she broke her hip, was recovering at home, was in critical condition, and was actively dying. I don’t recall a word about cancer. There has never been a word of explanation as to why she was never presented to the public.
I’m sorry to sound so cold, and I don’t blame anyone for criticizing me for implying such awful motives to Obama–but I too wonder about the night-before-the-election situation. If I were him, I would have waited until tomorrow night to announce the death and explained that I didn’t want the news to affect voting in any way. Some might say he didn’t want it to affect his campaigning, but it hasn’t anyway, has it?

Thats NOT what he said! I just listened to the interview on youtube. What Menendez said was, “Even though I always enjoy being on your program, I’m certainly not one of those who want to see you leave as one of the anchors, I heard that before”.

Apparently Cavuto is considering leaving his position?

It certainly was NOT some sort of veiled threat.

I seriously doubt if Obama gives a rat’s ass one way or the other about gays. What Obama cares about is Obama and power and fame. He voted against the Illinois BAIPA. Any man or woman who votes against protecting little babies are the scum of the earth. Obama is a saddist and a switch hitter for whatever is convenient. Obama is a liar and a con. He isn’t muslim, christian, buddahist, or any other religion but he uses them all to get what he wants. he is a replica of that damned old Frank Marshal Davis.

Think that’s exaggerated? We did a poll recently. One of our own. An informal poll. We asked people what was the capital of Canada.

We asked about a dozen people. No one knew the answer.

One person protested the poll was rigged. She said the following – exact words.

But Canada can’t have a capital! It’s already a country!

And that, my friends, is what you’re up against. Most members of my family do not believe there is any democracy anyway. The question is what we want to do about it.

I have zero sympathy. None. I lost it the day my aunt had to read a Obama supporters comment about putting me in a bag, tie me up and throw me in the river because of utube videos I used to make before I stopped after her begging me to because she hated reading the crap.

I have zero sympathy after listening to a writer from Huffington post call for someone to literally assasinate joe the damn plumber for asking a question.

This man has done nothing for any of his family. From George Obama living off a dollar a month, his illegal alien aunt living in damn public housing when he lives in a mansion. Please. We sending Obama ass to the house tomorrow. Him and his supporters think someone should sympathize? How do they think Joe, a private citizen, family feel that we live in a place where you can play a sound bite on the news of someone calling for your death. Get real.

I hate, literally hate, what this man is doing. My mother died from Cancer. No insurance because me and my two brothers were always put first. They watched her on her sickbed. How dare Senator Obama tell this damn lie. Last week it was her hip. But late this afternoon, they announce, she died last night from a long fight with Cancer?

There is a special place in hell reserved for him.

As for the gay thing? I asked a friend of mine WHY he would vote for Obambi knowing all this stuff. I sent him THIS exact thread. He knew all this stuff and said that he long ago realized that NO politician would EVER support gays so he voted for Obambi anyway. Sigh.

No one ever stops to consider the budgetary implications of the recognition of same-sex marriage. After a year, same-sex partners would become eligible for Social Security spouse’s benefits and surviving spouse’s benefits, right? Could an already financially stressed retirement and disability insurance system handle that?

I’m neither for nor against same-sex marriage. I’m only posing a question that no one seems to raise when the the topic comes up.

  • http://waitingfornov5 waitingfornov5

For many Jews being a Democrat is part of their identity. For them giving up on the Democratic Party is like major surgery, and they are not ready for this yet, although I think some of them are starting to wake up. Also, Jews were at the forefront of the civil rights movement, so supporting a black candidate seems to them like the right thing to do. The bottom line, though, and that goes for all Obama supporters I talk to, Jews or non-Jews, they are so mesmerized by his “eloquence” and supposed intellectual superiority, that they are simply blinded to all his faults and are willing to excuse everything he says, all his associations, etc. Obama reminds me of Saruman from “The Lord of the Rings”. In the Chapter “The Voice of Saruman” Tolkien writes: “Those who listened Unwarily to that voice could seldom report the words that they heard; and if they did, they wondered, for little power remained in them. Mostly they remembered only that it was a delight to hear the voice speaking, all that it said seemed wise and reasonable, and desire awoke in them by swift agreement to seem wise themselves”.
Tolkien lived in a time when eloquent speakers (Hitler, Mosoulini), arose great passions in millions of people, and we all know How that ended. This is why I’m always skeptical when I listened to people who are considered charismatic.

Identity politics. For most people in the gay community, Gay = Democract. The Log Cabin Republicans are vilified as self-hating homophobes. LCR’s think it’s foolish to put all of your political eggs in one basket and continue to work to make the Republican party a more inclusive party.

It still greatly disappoints me that Gov. Palin does want a constitutional amendment against same sex marriage. She really did say this in a CBN interview.

    http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/467179.aspx

I’m not a single issue person but this is an important issue for me. Despite her feelings on this, I still like and respect her because what you see is what you get with her. I just hope that over the course of the next few years she re-evalutes her position on this to at least putting it back in the state’s hands.

  • tek

No Democratic presidential candidate has ever been in favor of gay marriage. They favor civil unions.

  • http://waitingfornov5 waitingfornov5

    Soldier,

Wasn’t this guy from HuffPo gay himself? Always sad to see people who are victims of hatred and bigotry become haters themselves.

  • tek

Yes, politically the issue is entirely economic.

  • JozefAL

Rob, hate to break it to you but that actually takes in a very large portion of the “Christian Community”. Opposition to same-sex marriage (or, more accurately, support of “traditional, one-man/one-woman” marriage) is an official policy of the Southern Baptist Convention, the United Methodist Church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church of America, pretty much all of the Eastern Orthodox Churches, the various Lutheran denominations.
Even the Dalai Lama has spoken/written against homosexuality, and not just in terms of same-sex marriage. (The Sundance Channel airs a program called “John Safran vs God”, featuring an Australian reality show “survivor” who discusses religion of all sorts, largely from the skeptic’s point of view. On one program he showed how the Dalai Lama’s renowned tolerance is not quite as inclusive as everyone thinks. He read quotes from a book and asked, through “man-on-the-street” interviews, whether the quote was from the Dalai Lama or Pope John Paul II. Every quote sounded like something we’d expect from the Pope but, without exception, all the passages were from the Dalai Lama.)
Also, it should be pointed out that, of all the divisions of Judaism, the only one that openly supports same-sex marriage (while also allowing each temple/synagogue leeway in its acceptance of the issue) is Reform Judaism. Both Orthodox and Conservative Judaism are stringently opposed to same-sex marriage.

  • Athena the Warrior

Then gay people should no longer have to pay into a system that will not recognize them. No taxation without representation OK?

  • torchwwod

Don’t know if I want Obama to win or lose. A BIG part of me wants to him to lose for obvious reasons. but part of me wants him to win so he can screw over the GLBT community and I can say “I told you so” to those fools wearing “Obama Pride” buttons.

  • JozefAL

Bitch, get a fucking grip. “So now the government is not only going to control. . ., but now our media. . . .”
Do you actually KNOW what the Fairness Doctrine IS or have you just bought into the RIGHT-WING’s definition of it? The Fairness Doctrine (which was the law until the Reagan era; you might remember Reagan–he’s the one who wanted the media to spend more time on “good” news instead of the “depressing” news). The Fairness Doctrine MANDATED that a station (or a network) could NOT editorialize on an issue without allowing someone on the other side having the right to speak his/her mind on the issue WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR THE RIGHT.
Why do you think the right-wingers want to keep the Fairness Doctrine out of the picture? They LOVE the way they DON’T have to allow opposing speech (which, by the way, is the TRUE hallmark of ANY totalitarian regime, whether on the right or the left). TV and radio stations are LICENSED by the Government (compared, for example, to newspapers which are fully privately-owned and -operated or the internet which similarly does not operate under Government license) and both should be required (in terms of news coverage) to offer fair, balanced AND equitable coverage of the issues. Contrary to popular opinion, Fox News is NOT “fair and balanced” when viewed SOLELY on its own merits. The network came into existence claiming that IT was needed to provide “balance in coverage”. Note that the conservative Reagan-era FCC ended the Fairness Doctrine so one could blame the FCC for creating that “need” for Fox News. (Talk radio, it should be noted, only took off when station owners were freed from the Fairness Doctrine’s requirement of “fair, balanced and equitable coverage”.)
Of course, it is a bit odd that major opponents of the Fairness Doctrine tend to be major proponents of the government having complete control over entertainment and advertising content (IOW, it’s perfectly fine for some right-wing hack to spout off on any issue he wants without an opposing point of view getting the same attention, but we mustn’t allow children to be exposed to tobacco, hard liquor or condom ads, and heaven forfend that some program should have a 4-letter word or a 10-second glimpse of a woman’s nipple or a man’s penis on the slim chance that some 10-year old is up at 11pm).

  • JozefAL

Sorry if I offended anyone with the start of the above comment, but I’m so tired of these people who don’t have a clue what the Fairness Doctrine really means and only listen to what they’ve been told by far-right lunatics.

  • adagioforstrings

In fairness to Obama, a number of politicians triangulate on this issue, e.g. Palin who vetoed a bill in Alaska that outlawed gay marriage, but now supports a federal amendment to ban gay marriage (which would actually make the anti-gay marriage people’s job harder, since a constitutional amendment is more difficult to pass than a federal law…):

    http://www.gay.com/news/article.html?2006/12/29/6

[...]Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin vetoed a bill Thursday that sought to block the state from giving health benefits to the same-sex partners of public employees, the Anchorage Daily News reported[...]

  • JozefAL

No one ever stops to consider the economic implications when fucking straight couples marry either, do they?
Fuck the “budgetary implications”. An American soldier can marry a foreigner and bring that spouse to the US, but does anyone think of the “budgetary implications”?
As for “survivor’s benefits”, so the fuck what? What happens to a SINGLE person’s benefits when he/she dies? Huh? Where do they go? Shouldn’t the person who dies decide where they eventually go? I’m single, but when I die after I receive Social Security, I don’t see why someone I don’t know should “benefit” from my death. Maybe I would want my Social Security benefits to go to my favorite charity. Maybe I want the benefits to go to my third cousin’s grandchildren. Maybe I want the benefits to go to the hot young stud who spent the last year caring for me. If none of those cause a problem, then why should it matter if the benefits go to my same-sex partner whom I’ve married?
Anon, I frankly don’t believe your claim to be “neither for nor against same-sex marriage” because “budgetary implications” are a well-known right-wing code for a NON-RELIGIOUS basis for opposing same-sex marriage.

  • JozefAL

You’re wrong tek. Dennis Kucinich was the only Democratic candidate who FULLY supports same-sex marriage.

Thanks, Truthteller, for this excellent piece (and for the shout-outs – wow!)!

Athena, Palin said something the other night in an interview with Greta, http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html?playerId=videolandingpage&streamingFormat=FLASH&referralObject=3174383&referralPlaylistId=playlist, that people don’t have to agree on everything, but they should be willing to talk things out, or something to that effect. She said that these days, people are so willing to vilify people with whom they disagree that they never LISTEN to the other person. And that’s the thing. She may not support same sex marriage, but she is fair – she signed into law GLBT people getting the SAME rights as everyone else because that was what the law required of her. Period. I mean, really – isn’t that refreshing?? She may not agree with us – YET – but maybe she will at least sit down and talk to us abt it!

  • http://home.comcast.net/~vincep312 VinceP1974

For whatever reason, my wonderfully written response to is filtered. So i have to just summarize:

The Fairness Doctrine is the Left’s way of shutting dissent.

Democrat Politicians are invited but not accept to go on most shows.

Most hosts give priority placement to the callers from the other side.

Gays are too busy playing party politics right now to even care if Obama’s a homophobe. I believe he is (I’m part of the GLBT community myself).

A few points from the above comments: I thought that the Christmas present thing had been cleared up? Anyone have a link to this “Obama doesn’t give his kids Christmas presents” comment?

Also, I think you can pretty much take a good, educated guess as to what Obama really does follow. Personally I think he’s a member of the Nation of Islam–he’s just missing the bowtie.

The sad fact is that too many Americans DON’T understand the difference between a traditional Muslim and a Black Muslim/NOI Muslim. They are not the same thing, even though they follow some of the same customs.

Obama likes to hang around with “no pork on my fork” rappers (I believe Luda is one). Know what that is? It’s a tip to the Nation of Islam, who follow the same dietary rules as traditional Muslims and Jews (no pork because it’s unclean). Know what someone should do? Offer Obama a fat, juicy pork hotdog and see if he eats it.

Another thing about hardcore traditional Muslims is that dog ownership as pets is forbidden. remember that one of Obama’s girls asked if they could have a dog if they got into the White House? Obama skirted the issue. Dogs are considered unclean and not allowed in the house. You watch and see if Obama gets in; we just might have a non-dog president (plus I’ve only seen ONE photo of Obama near a dog and he was holding it for a promo and he looked like he wanted to shit himself).

The sad part about all of this is that all of these things are as American as apple pie (Christmas gift-giving, hot dogs, dog companionship) and Obama seems to reject all of it. What a GREAT symbol for America…only not.

  • anon

Nope, the question honestly wasn’t coming from a right-wing political perspective. I’m actually a left-of-center Obama supporter in most respects, liberal on social and personal rights issues but common sense conservative-leaning on budgetary matters. I do see your point. It’s a perfectly valid one.
