      Man asked to leave Philly polling place
      Posted: 03:47 PM ET

      (CNN) — A man wearing what appeared to be a black outfit with a beret and holding a nightstick was asked by police to leave a polling location in Philadelphia Tuesday, according to Philadelphia County Board of Elections Supervisor, Bill Rubin.

      Rubin says the man left without incident. He says another man wearing similar attire had a poll watcher certificate and was allowed to remain at the polling site at 1221 Fairmont Avenue.

      A video posted on Youtube, by electionjournal.org, shows two men standing several feet in front of the entrance to Guild House West, the polling location for the 4th Division of Ward 14 in Philadelphia. The cameraman in the video asks a man with a nightstick who he’s with and the man responds, “I’m security.” The cameraman later says “I think it might be a little bit intimidating that you have a stick in your hand.”

      Rubin says local election rules state a person cannot be within 10 to 15 feet of the entrance to a polling place unless that person is voting, is a poll worker, or has a poll watcher certificate.

      Rubin says anyone practicing voter intimidation outside that 10 to 15 foot perimeter could pose a public safety issue and would be handled by the police.

      Cathie Abookire, a spokewoman for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office, says the office is not investigating the matter, calling it a “non-incident.” Abookire says, “We have had no complaints from any voters that they have been intimidated.”

      Notice NO MENTION of Black Panthers or any of the video or that someone actually called police on them. Nothing.

      I really don’t see how people are so naive and petty. OBVIOUSLY, these men ARE BLACK PANTHERS!!! They have a freakin’ Black Panther logo on their hats and coats! I am 100% positive there is racism in this country, and I am 200% positive that it is perpetuated by both sides. Ignorant backwoods racists who feel all black people are inferior, and ignorant “grudge holding” blacks who think because of their color they are entitled to more than others. People…if John McCain is elected the country will be fine…if Barack Obama is elected the country will be fine. I’m sick and tired of hearing all these doomsday scenarios about what will happen to the country based on an election. Obviously, we can’t get any worse than we have been in the last 8 years. Of course, SOME white people will be fearful of a black man running the country and of course SOME black people will feel entitled to something if a black man is running the country. Too often we forget that we should be voting on issues and NOT race! I am white and I can not comment on the injustices black people feel everyday, but in a non-biased point of view, both white people and black people make racism. Whites hate blacks and blacks give those whites something to hate by constantly making themselves inferior. I’m tired of people like the Black Panthers using scare tactics to force others to believe black is a superior race, and I’m tired of white people putting ALL black people down and making racist judgments based on a singular action and trying to make white the superior race. I am disheartened with the Republican party for using these scare tactics and smear campaigns against a man trying to unite the nation. And I am sick of supreme liberal Democrats feeling that all things Republican is evil. Maybe if we all just left it on the table and concentrated on the important issues, this election wouldn’t be such a hostile issue. Whoever wins, the country is not going to explode, exercise your right to vote, and then get over it!

      No I assure you as a former longtime Philadelphia resident – this type of activity is part and parcel of behavior at Philadelphia voting places.

      I can’t see the video, I’m just wondering if it occurred in an AA precinct.

      I will say this – this morning I was at three different polling places, in the Philly burbs.

      There were State Police at two of them. This is something brand new in my voting life. It leads me to believe there was some kind of a threat called in.

        I am amazed that police are not at all polling locations. I just assummed, because that was always my experience. I just got back from the polls. There were police directing traffic, stationed at the cross walks, and enforcing the campaign free buffer zone. Police inside. Officers shaking hands, chit chatting with people. It is like one big public relations event for them. Heck, I even saw one little old lady make the cop hold her coat while she fished for her glasses in her handbag. What the heck is this police intimidation bull-oney??? Never been my experience- ever.

        Early exit polls are coming in now. McCain is carrying a substantial lead with white men [=36% of vote] Obama leading substantially with new voters [=10% of vote]. These are the first numbers from Indiana, Va, and Pa.

        Late deciders are leaning towards Obama in Indiana and Ohio. In Virgina, late deciders going for McCain. Again, merely a snapshot of today’s vote.

        Tight as a tick. Michael Steele is smiling. The Dem rep doesn’t look terribly happy.

        But these are only first hints from “todays’ vote”. Doesn’t take anything into consideration for early voting numbers.

        Looks like we’re going to chewing our nails down to nada.

        But, back to the subject at hand. Whatever happens, the MSM needs to be examined and overhauled. Follow the money. That’s probably where the incriminating trail will lead us.

    OMG, Uppity, I just came here to tell everyone about this, and you beat me to it. I am so glad you posted this with the videos. I don’t understand why a militant hate group like the Black Panthers are even allowed to be out front. Apparently, one of them is a poll watcher. God give me strength!!! Everyone needs to know the tactics the Obama campaign uses. Of course CNN or MSNBO won’t report this or any other voter intimidation unless it is toward minorities voting for Obama.

    Paris Hilton has rallied behind Republican vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, describing her as “hot” and “smart”.

    “I think she’s hot and I think it’s great that a woman is running for office,” the hotel heiress wrote in Glamour magazine.

    “I don’t think she’s stupid – she wouldn’t be where she is today if she was stupid. I think she’s smart, and it’s just because she’s a woman people are saying she’s not.”

    Hilton’s comments come after she created a political spoof claiming she would run for “fake President” with Martin Sheen.

    Based on her Fake Ad in the summer after McCain called Obama a Paris Hilton, I knew that Paris was actually a McCain supporter because she didn’t viciously attack him.

    Um, how many white supremacist groups are there in….downtown Philly? I could understand this kind of stunt in Macon,Ga or Backwoods, MS. From what I see on the news, the only people the panthers are ‘scaring into acting right’ are little old ladies. Hmmmm, are little old ladies now in charge of a major white supremacist group in Philly? Are they keeping black voters from voting by hitting them with their vinyl pocketbooks? Are they jabbing at them with their umbrellas? Are all the other people that poll at this site really so vastly and superbly organized in the name of white supremacy that they NEED intimidation like this to keep themselves in line, to stop them from harassing a black voter?

    Or are the Black Panthers, new or old, just trying to let us know what the Obama regime’s gon’ feel like?

    The police came when called, and made the one with the club leave. They can not station police at the polling locations. If they did, the Obama campaign would most assuredly be claiming intimidation even if the police were African Americans. Just remember, don’t be intimidated, just call the hot-lines and report it. Then call the press and police and have the offenders documented and removed.

          For those who are trying to sum up the courage to this, you can make it past people like that.

        When I was in Philly campaigning for Hillary during the primary, there was a lot of intimidation tactics used by Obama supporters and I definitely got the sense that a lot of black people were voting for Obama because they felt they had too. When standing on the street doing viz a lot of people came up to us from the black community and whispered thier support for Hillary, and how they didn’t agree with a lot of their family members etc., as to why they were voitng for Obama.

        On primary day, it was Obama supporters chased us from location to location chanting Obama, getting in our faces, standing in front of our signs and generally trying to start a riot. It was unreal.

        I stood on a street corner for an hour while I had about 20 high school girls behind screaming Obama, and then got on their bus and screamed “We’ll never trust white people!”

        What is that? That’s not me! I’ve never been racist in my life. Philly does have it racial issues, I know. I’m from there. But, I thought Obama was supposed to Unify?? Wrong! That was a lie. He is going to fundamentally change America. He said so himself.

        No one wants to deal with that, including me. We couldn’t do anything about it, b/c you know the media would have blamed it all on Hillary supporters.

          I’m just trying to figure out the target audience of the intimidation. In N. Philly, they’re either trying to scare AAs or college voters of any ethnicity.

          A while back there was discussion on this blog about being a poll watcher in Philly. I commented that in the City of Brotherly (ahem) Love it could be a dangerous undertaking.

          If it’s not white ethnic union goons, it’s the panthers.

          Philadelphia has a lot of “growing” to do.

      I was in Washington DC during the election of 1994. The faces were completely shocked. Why were they so shocked? People in Washington DC and the Legacy Media are not connected to what is going on in the ground, especially in the ‘flyover’ country. In 1994, they were completely shocked by the results. The same will be true in 2008. What they do not get is that the electorate is going to give them, and the media, and Obama, the equivalent of the middle finger. The white hot passion down here in the ground is not being picked up. Turn-out at the most ‘red’ states being at record highs should be a flag of this occurring. Yet, they don’t see it for whatever reason.

        I just talked to my brother voting in the Jacksonville Fl. area, he said the lines were really long, and that there was an undertone of muttering anger that would occasionally become audible, and that it unfortunately got worse when AA persons walked by some people. He was distressed at the dynamic but voted for McCainPalin anyway, he and his family, they’re all PUMAs.

    Be aware that some will take his rise to Presidential power as the stepping stone for them to now claim their place in the scheme of things as the ignorant act as if their day has come. Cant blame them this is what Obama and most black leaders have been telling them for months, our time is now, change has to come.

    Rick Leventhal reported live on the Strategy Room from a polling place in Philadelphia on the Black Panthers in front of the polling place. He is reporting right now describing what happened. The poll watchers felt intimidated.

    The Black Panther is now denying there was anyone with a night stick even though the video shows there was. He says that Fox News has no right to be there. The law says that the media does have a right to be at the polling place. Is this what we have to look forward to?

Actually, everyone was really quiet, and the lines lasted no longer than 10-15 minutes at each. Glad I didn’t bump into any “voter intimidation” types. I was in no mood for it.

I think there is a large number of white democrats that are not PUMA’s, but are not enthusiastic enough about Obama to actually vote for him. My friend in Phily likes to irritate me by threatening to vote for Obama because he hates Bush so much. I’ve swamped him with the facts about the ratburger Obama, and I believe that he will simply not vote.     I was just explaining all of this to my 16-year-old son. I got onto the subject of the electoral college; and it hit me. The electors vote for President in December; and they can cast their votes for anyone they want. Of course, if they want to reach the magic number, they can only do so by choosing one of the names that appeared on the ballot. And usually, they choose to cast their electoral votes for the person who won the more popular votes. If BO ‘wins’ the most electoral votes today, then the issue of his eligibility under Article II of the Constitution is ripe, and the lawsuits will be brought. If he is deemed ineligible before the electors in each state vote, then they can vote for anyone else they want. Presumably, if BO is ineligible, they will cast their votes for John McCain. Because the election was ‘fair’; the Democrats just chose to promote a candidate who is ineligible for office. This means, the votes cast for him do not count!

      Andrew, exit polls are even more likely to be off than all the messed-up regular polls. When polls are running so skewed, it just makes you tense to try and dig something out of them and know the future right now. This waiting will pass, but it will take a few more hours. Not that long. Then we can worry, if necessary.

    I voted early this morning, just across the street. Then, later I went out to have lunch with my daughter and when I came back home there were three big black guys standing in front of my window, with cellular phones and looking at the voting place and I didn’t like it. There was a police man at the door of the voting place. I went out again and when I came back an hour later, those guys were still there and heard one saying on the phone: I will go across and see if I can eavesdrop… The police man was gone. I picked the phone and called my precint and explain the situation. They sent a patrol car right away and in seconds, the guys disappeared. This morning people were standing on line long before 6:00 am but when I came back from lunch there were few people inside and the same for the rest of the day. I just went across the street to look through the windows and there are very few people voting. What’s going on? Maybe since there are so many out-of-town people living in this area, they have voted earlier… Anyway, no funny looking guys around either. If they reappear, I will call the police again.

    What I don’t understand, and as another replier above posted, is, with all the video cameras available today, we get a 30 second clip of them standing on the curb, some 10-15 feet from the entrance, mind you, it could seem intimidating, especially to the racists out there, but, in the small clip of the video, I do not see them threatening, or even talking to anyone else.

    There is even a white woman on her cell phone, some 7 or so feet behind them, leaning on a column, she surely doesn’t look like she’s intimidated at all.

    Since the advent of the video camera in cell phones, we have gotten videos of all kinds of things, from the outrageous stupidity of kids on skateboards, jumping things and slamming face first into concrete walks, and thinking its cool, to stupid police officers doing stupid things to people they pull over, yet, I see no evidence of them overtly threatening or shouting at people.

    Do I consider it wise of them being there?  No, I think it was very stupid of them to do so, however, since it was only 2, and since they were not engaging in more than a stand there, it would be similar to posting a couple of marines in uniform, outside of a mosque, and thinking that it would not intimidate the members due to the racial persecution they feel that we americans are leveling their way for just being muslim, yet, we would consider it as prevention.

    Now, if he has more video, unless he’s auctioning it to the highest bidder still, after 2 years of having it, I haven’t seen any indications that they did more than stand there… how do we know they didn’t actually go and vote in there, and were waiting for a ride on the curb?  We don’t, we only have a video of them standing on the curb, not blocking the entrance.

    Yes, they said they were going to go to the voting centers to ensure their rights to vote, which doesn’t mean they didn’t vote while they were there, and then hung around, its a case of potato potatoe, we can’t know for sure, but, with the words they were reported as saying, we can’t discount that they didn’t do it either.

    However, in all the years of the news where videos have been recorded on cell phones, I have never ever, not seen the video released in full, showing the actions they were accused of, til now.  Why?  What is so different about this one, that the only thing you see is 2, decidedly unwise, members of the Panthers, standing outside the polling station, not blocking anyone, and, since no videos have been otherwise forthcoming with any overt actions, doing more than a bare protest at the location, without getting in anyones way per se to enter.

    Definitely not enough to warrant anyone calling the police to have them there, I surely did not see any officers hanging about to ensure nothing happened, which, rest assured, is normal when anyone feels threatened enough, they call the police.  So why no police presense?  Other articles state that state troopers were watching other polls, why not this one?

    All in all, it sounds more like a smoke screen for the racially inclined, who are upset over methods the other side chose, either because they didn’t think of it first, or, because, their side isn’t allowed to do it, and they want to create as much media hype as they can get away with.

    In my opinion, this country has become too PC, and less like the country we founded it as.  Our current political politicians, appear to have agendas of their own, that do not appear to have the american people at heart, seems to be more about how to fund their pockets more.  I would rather see no politicians voted into office, unless said politician made no money from being in office, and only got allotments, the cheapest to get them there and back, with room and board while in Washington D.C., as payment for being in office.

    Makes one wonder how well they would come through in resolving issues if they had to get back to work to make money to live on, instead of getting nearly $180,000 a year for talking a subject to death or stalling on bills the other party might look good for.  Are we Americans?  Or are the politicians only Republicans or Democrats or Independants?  I’m an American myself, I don’t care which side gets credit, I only care if the new law or tax has meaning to me, and how it affects myself and my family.  Is it good or bad?  If bad, why was it allowed in in the first place?

    And why on earth are there some laws that are not voted for by the American people, that only the representatives get to vote on, and we have to live with.  Especially given that most Americans believe most politicians to be on the payrolls of big business, that’s like letting the fox run the hen house.

    So, if there is more evidence that they did more than assemble, and not enough to warrant police intervention, and, they didn’t overtly threaten anyone, since the videos would have shown that by a hundred million posters once they got their hands on it, then perhaps people should take a very long look at their views, and perhaps, just perhaps, realize that they might just be racist, and get over it.
