Going Forward With No Quarter

If you are worried that we will not have anything to write about at No Quarter, fear not. We are not going anywhere. The focus now is on which Barack Obama will govern. This much is certain–a significant portion of his supporters will be disappointed if not angry with his policies and appointments. I am betting that the progressive wing will get screwed again. However, if the progressives get what they want we should not be surprised with a significant backlash by the center-right majority in this country.

Our focus for the near term will be keeping track of how well Barack does in making good on his promises. He does not want more of the partisan politics. Right? Great, so he will let the Washington Times, Dallas Morning News, and New York Post have prime seats in the White House briefing room?

How many Republicans, like Chuck Hagel, will get a plum job in the new Administration? I can hear some Democrats making a case to punish the Republicans and not give them a thing. I think Barack will follow the lead of George W. Bush and give a Republican a token post that is not really relevant to the national policy debate. Remember how Norm Mineta, Democrat, made out as Secretary of Transportation?

This piece is just to get the dialogue started, it is not a comprehensive list nor is it a fully thought out analysis. But here are some of the dynamics I see at play:

1. What happens in the next two years will be the full fault of the Democrats. With solid Democratic majorities there must be action. So, will the Democrats vote to increase taxes? Odds are yes. And that is a prescription for financial disaster. Raising taxes, even on the so-called rich (what ever that number is), will exacerbate the economic decline, not reverse it.

2. The negotiation of the Status of Forces Agreement in Iraq will probably go on hold until Obama takes the oath. Status of Forces Agreement aka SOFA, governs what bases the US will have, if any, in Iraq and will establish the rules for how U.S. soldiers will be treated if they are believed to have committed a criminal act. In other words, if a U.S. soldier kills an Iraqi will he or she be tried by Iraqi authorities or U.S. military authorities. This will be a test for the Democrats. Are they going to “sell out” our soldiers to a foreign power? I suspect that is how the issue will be framed.

3. The economic crisis is international and will limit what the U.S. can do to revive its own national economy. We will find out if Austan Goolsbee’s behind the scenes talk with the Canadians, where he said that Barack was not really interested in doing away with Nafta, will hold true. Of course Barack’s supporters among the labor unions won’t be happy if that is the case, but at least he will be taking a moderate position that will not aggravate a global recession.

Okay. This is enough to get the conversation started. What else should we be thinking about?

No Youlose, you lose. If you think you’ll be able to continue sitting on your lazy fat ass, think again. He doesn’t need you now….nor does he want you. You’re a liability to this multi-faced, double-talking fraud. The 7 bucks/hour you’ve been getting will seem like big money when his congress gets around to fucking things up. My assets are safe, real safe so he won’t affect me. Of course, you don’t know what I’m talking about. An asset is something you work for and earn. Sounds strange to you doesn’t it?

      • NOBAMA2

tillthen…can you help us? Should we mortgage real estate to the hilt and put money offshore? Please…need advice desperately. What bout savings? He said he is coming after retirement savings (not just the interest). Is gold bogus?
I think of the Jews who smelled the stink in the winds sold out and moved out — they survived.

GOD! He’s going to clean out America’s coffers for Islamic USAfrica and for his cronies backed by Daly!!

        • Jim S

I’m cashing out. Selling every asset that can be traced and therefore taxed. I figure I’ll take a small hit now in place of a large hit later. Cash is king and untraceable. I’ll move some of it offshore and stash money into safe deposit boxes. I refuse to help this man and these people destroy the country that I fought for. For those not in a safe financial situation I can only say that were it me I would hide what I could and reduce my economic profile to a minimum. Stay under the radar but keep alert. Those in power will soon realize that even the wealthy can only pay so much and then the middle class will become the “rich”, after that who knows. I’ve always liked Thailand. I’ll wait a bit and take a look at what’s coming down the road and if not to my liking I’ll visit for a year or two. Hell living in a foreign country, I can get a credit card from a foreign bank and donate thousands to Obama’s challenger in 2012.

          • Tuppence411

Like you Jim- My mindset has gone into “protective mode” as well. Like a switch went off last night when Ohio was called. A very sad reality. I have never, ever before felt that it was me and mine vs. my own goverment. Not only economically, but also with regards to principals and ethics. So not only will I keep a low economic profile, I am most certainly going to draw ranks around my family to protects us from what I believe will be a very damaging value shift.

            • PhxNickD

Same here, now it is time to look at limiting by business growth. I am not going to work harder and end up paying more taxes for the welfare system. Hopefully, according to BHO’s plan, I will reduce my economic footprint, reduce my workload and I should fare as well. No incentive to do otherwise.

          • VMorris

Cashing out is what I plan to do too, before Obama gets into office and raises the capital gains tax. According to Obama, that makes me selfish. Tell that to my elderly dad that I help support and my son and his family who I help financially so they don’t go into the astronomical debt that others have. Of course, I pay through the nose and the deadbeats get forgiven for their irresponsibility.

Cash out now! I am not giving my money away to those who know how to game the system. We now have a man who will be President who is a master of gaming the system.

Unfortuately, Mr. BO is the perfect symbol of how far gaming the system can get you.

          • Ellen D

Right now, if you live abroad for 2 years you pay no income tax on your income (you still pay FICA). You can’t come back except for short visits. Of course the Dems might change all this.

            • Bellevue_NW_Voter The Renter

Ellen, can you tell me more about this?

I heard that the first $80,000 or so is exempt from double taxation. Is the full amount really exempt from double taxation (except FICA) after one has lived abroad for 2 years?

What do you mean, “can’t come back except for short visits”? Do you mean can’t come back EVER except for short visits, or just, can’t come back frequently while earning $$ overseas if you want it to stay tax free?

I’ve been looking at taking a few years and getting some international experience. This may be the time.

            • Baba Rum Raisin

There are two IRS pamphlets regarding how one declares one’s “Tax Home.” I suggest that you secure and read same before implementing a strategy, as it seems you have been fed Street Jive by someone whose barber’s girlfriend’s roomate heard it from a guy who drives rental cars back to the airport for Blackwater.

FYI, the last of 14 years in which I was paid and remitted taxes in this fashion (2002)(paid in US dollars in the Commonwealth of the Nothern Mariana Islands), the requirement to remain outside CONUS was 330 rpt 330 CONSECUTIVE calendar days, save for repatriation for medical treatment.

The first US$65,000 was exempt from taxation in the US that year.

The paperwork burden to chisel Uncle Sam is onerous and this path is strewn with pitfalls that can require the services of a tax attorney to correct.

        • lark

The best strategy is to pay. Always pay for mistake and don’t try to avoid it. Once paid, you have a better understanding of what not to do next time and what to do to avoid another mistake. This mistake will cost a pretty penny but it will not come due for another two, three, four years, and the balloon payment doesn’t come due until about 2016.

This comment: perfect example of the Obamabot mentality. Another similarity to George W. Bush–SORE WINNERS!

Anyone can lose graciously (John McCain), it takes a great person to WIN graciously. So now we see the true mettle of these people.

(They probably don’t know what mettle means)!

    • http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com Florida Ex-Dem

This is pretty much what I expected from the low-lifes who have been the life-blood of the Obama campaign. You can’t expect someone to show any class when they’ve never been exposed to it in their lives. And unfortunately, this is what we can expect for the next four years.

I’d said that we can expect social problems no matter who wins, because the Oborg feel that they are now somehow ‘entitled’ to some sort of compensation. The joke’s on them since of course, Obama cares nothing about anyone but himself and they’ve just been fooled by a slick-talking snake-oil salesman. Of course, what’s really funny is that all one had to do was listen with maybe, um, 1/8th of their brains, to realize that it is all a house of cards.

All evidence to the contrary. Especially Barry’s middle finger flip because he was feeling the pressure. Like he did to Hillary.

But don’t worry, we will be the strong voice for rights, democracy and freedom, so we will be here plugging away and doing something Barry’s own supporters couldn’t do by holding his feet to the fire.

He talked about doing away with the military? Think he’ll really do this, because my husband is sick right now. He’s convinced he’s going to lose his job, and we’re a one income family.

    • danny

Actually, Obama plans to create a tax credit to completely offset the first $4,000 of college, and up to 2/3 of tuition at average public universities, in exchange for 100 hours of community service.

With a democratic congress, that should actually be relatively easy to do.

I haven’t heard anything about doing away with the military.

      • chezmadame

Yeah, but it replaces the $1650 federal tax credit currently in place. You know, the one you don’t have to do anything to get.

Did you even know about this tax credit, Danny, or do Mom and Dad still write the checks?

Personally, I think it’s hysterical that college kids will have to work for what used to be one of the few breaks that the middle class enjoyed.

Kids having to pay their dues…that’s change I can believe in.

        • chezmadame

Mom and Dad will save $2650 and you’ll be picking up garbage along a highway on a Saturday morning, Danny.

Actually $26.50 an hour for picking up garbage is a pretty good rate.

      • POdVet

Make sure you point out that is 100 hours of community service each year. Not that it matters. He CAN’T do it! What he will gain by raising the taxes on the rich has been spent by his plans 4 times over already. His so-called savings by ending the Iraq war are a myth. In case you forget, his plan is to bring home the military yes…and replace them with private security firms like Black Water! The cost of the required number of Black Water security forces will be double what it costs for US military forces! So we will get much less for much more. His (cough) health plan is NEVER going to happen! It is pure BS as everyone not being directly paid off by the Obama campaign has already tried to point out. I realize that in Obamaland, 1+1=3 but you moronic messiah supporters really need to vet the ONE eventually. What harm can it do you now to actually learn a little bit. You have succeeded in shitting on your country, and bringing the world to a place it has not seen since 1934.

I’m saying this as a low income, life long Democrat who would supposedly much better off with Obama as President. But I took the time to do some research and realize that all the BS is indeed just BS! Even if it wasn’t all pure BS being pushed for by the most corrupt business interests in the nation who supported Obama. It would be nothing like he promised you hopey dopey change freaks. I have no health insurance, but planned to get some under McCain’s plan. With Obama’s plan even if he actually did manage to do it. I will still be uninsured. Low income families like mine may indeed see an extra $500 per year in tax credits, but it is plain to see that will be more than swallowed by Obama’s crystal clear intention of causing energy prices to nearly double. Net benefit for my family will be -$1000 yr. I have no doubts what so ever, that under Obama the poor will get a small hand out. But it is going to be paid for with a knife to the back! Your dear leader has never I repeat NEVER done a single thing to actually benefit the poor. All he has done is use the gullible as stepping stones.

        • dpvegas

Well said. For me, what he did with Exelon (hope I have the name right) was a clear indication of how two-faced, and back stabbing, he really is.

He never follows through on anything, but I’ll bet that “non-binding resolution” becomes real enough within the next year.

He didn’t even have a health care plan last year. He waited to see how other candidates plans went over with the electorate, and then started taking those for his own.

Ten-to-one he’ll just rubber stamp whatever the Democratic Congress sends him now. It’s just gonna be Bush in reverse. And since Barfy Frank announced on Monday that they plan on cutting the Defense budget by 25%…

        • Kal

Don’t worry — I’m sure BO will see that open public consultations on the best design for this program are held, and at times and in ways that are accessible for all, maybe even help with transportation and child care expenses so concerned parents can go to the meetings. After all, he wants to work in a genuinely constructive bipartisan way, not just more top-down dictating like Bush.

Remember what he said last night? Trust him!!

          • http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com Florida Ex-Dem

What’s the funniest to me is that all these jokers who voted for him really think he gives a damn about what they want. He used them and they now all think they’ll get something for nothing. If they weren’t such arrogant lazy little f*cks, I’d feel sorry for them but I don’t. They get what they deserve. Unfortunately, we all have to get what THEY deserve for the next four years as well.

At least my assets are safe. We’re not stupid people and haven’t made greedy mistakes. We didn’t borrow money. We didn’t buy a house at an inflated price, that we couldn’t afford and finance with a sub-prime mortgage that escalates. And we can even run our small business WITHOUT employees if necessary – and I will rather than cut my profit for Obama’s demands. As a matter of fact, we had already made the decision that if Obama wins and if he indeed tries to ‘spread the wealth’ then we’ll just not expand, not hire, We’re quite happy with our profits now and no one is going to punish me for keeping my business in the black or for not giving benefits we cannot afford to give.

Obama will effectively cut jobs for millions of people in this country employed in small business. What an amazing combination! An egomaniac leading the lazy who cannot think for themselves.

          • Marcos88

Bi-partisan? Obama is the fourth most partisan member of Congress. He has no plans for being bi-partisan. Wake up!

When he says he’s the unity candidate, he meant the same thing Bush meant – we unify when the opposition comes over to his way of thinking. Look how great the Bush unification worked out.

Barky is never going to “unify” squat because he’s a socialist – and when all these ObamaBlind college kids wake up and see their college degrees buying them a trip into Obama’s “RICH” tax classification, they’re going to really thrilled with their ignorant choice.

How stupid that blacks voting ethnicity and teenagers whose brains are not even completely formed and people who don’t even pay income taxes (looking for the big government checks) just voted the country down a rat hole.

So we’re supposed to dumb ourselves down and unify with that mentality?

        • Pennsylvania Red

Make sure you point out that is 100 hours of community service each year.

Community service, AKA the intimidators who showed up at Lower Oxford, PA yesterday.

I posted about it on the Civilian Military Force thread.

      • Monet

Actually, Obama plans to create a tax credit to completely offset the first $4,000 of college, and up to 2/3 of tuition at average public universities, in exchange for 100 hours of community service.

The 2/3 of tuition is based on an annual cost of $6k for tuition at a four year public university. I don’t know where those schools are – but they aren’t in my state. Tuition is closer to $10k, if not more.

Also, if I remember when looking through his tax plan, the 100 hours of community service has to be completed full time. Not doing two hours a week over the year. Which means students will be giving up summer jobs or working reduced hours for 4 -6 weeks each summer to complete their community service. One can look at it as making $40 per hour when completing the community service, but it also limits paying jobs they could find for the summer – especially ones in their field of study. A kid working 40 hours per week for twelve weeks over the summer at $7 per hour, would make $3,300. In the end, is the tax credit worth it to a family when we’re basically talking about losing $1k if the kid works fulltime during the summer instead of taking the tax credit and doing community service?

        • Jan

          Monet,

Plus for kids like mine who keep their job year round, and cut their hours for school, they can’t afford to take that kind of time off.

        • Mary

My question is how will he administer this program? Who keeps track of the student’s grades and community service hours assigned and done?

Will the Dept of Education triple in size to accomodate this program?

Or will the colleges themselves have to add employees to manage the federal government paperwork?

If the colleges have to do it, then tuition will RISE to cover the cost of administering the program.

All Obama’s doing is INCREASING the size and cost of another big-government program run through Washington.

And much like Fannie & Freddie, there’s lots of opportunity, with little oversight, for abuse and corruption with that money.

Besides, the Blue Dog Democrats are NEVER gonna let him fulfill this promise. It’s dead on arrival.

          • Boxer Mum 06

The blue dog democrats have been euthanized. No one will stop him now. He will save the world. He is not just the President of the US, he is the President of the world.

I just hope all the obots are happy with what they have done.

            • Mary

No, the Blue Dogs have not been euthanized.

In fact, WAPO reported that Obama’s economic advisor Jason Furman (Robert Rubin’s assistant) has already had multiple meetings with Pelosi & the Blue Dogs promising them he will abide by the PAYGO rules.

What that means, is that Obama will not be able to fulfill his campaign promises, because the 63 Blue Dogs won’t let him, and neither will Pelosi.

      • Jan

Perhaps that works for kids that have parents footing the bill and don’t have to work while in school, but my kids all got jobs at 15 and have been working since to save for college, and they work while in school. They don’t have time for 100 hours of community service – unless they’re supposed to give up their well deserved vacation week when we travel as a family – perhaps after they graduate and have more free time they can give back to their community. But as with the community service they have done through HS and our church, it will be done voluntarily for a cause they believe in, not just to get a 4,000 bribe.

      • Chicago Joe

Yeah, I can just see how that is going to work. Who monitors the community service? Do they just show up and sit around listening to their Ipods, clocking in hours. We have all had kids who have had to do community service for this or that requirement for religion class or school. A system ripe for more corruption.

    • tek

I don’t think he’s going to get rid of the military anytime soon. He’s going to escalate Afghanistan and there’s talk of another front in Pakistan.

What the Obama youth don’t realise is that their children and grandchildren will be left with crushing debt.

        • Mary

The Obama youth don’t understand that he intends to raise the cost of their payroll tax deductions, too.

They’ll have LESS money in their paychecks.

        • CentralMass

That does remain to be seen.

The National Debt when Reagan took office was ~$980 billion. It was ~$4.7 trillion when he left office and $5.5 trillion by the time G.H.W. Bush left office. We saw consective budget deficits from the time the cuts were instituted right into Clinton’s first term.

Clinton’s administration added virtually nothing to the debt. Hi Tax plan, Pay as Yo go, amd the Balanced Budget Ammendment stopped the bleeding. The nstional debt was around ~$5.6 trillion when he left office, having been paid down from a higher number. He had had the first consecutive budget surpluses in 40 years.

Dubya has added another $5 trillion to the national debt. You can’t gut tax revenue, claim the resulting growth will pay for the cuts, and then blame it on spending. This $10.6 trillion in debt is courtesy of 3 presidents who wouldn’t fund the cost of government.

Trickle Down Ecomonics Part I under Reagan/Bush Sr and Part II under Dubya.

This bot is show us what the election is about to the “youth.” Getting in the face of adults, that’s all they care about. That’s what Obama has programmed them to care about.

I’m also wondering if Obama and the Dems will cut the defense budget and institute a draft. I’ll be watching to see the importance they place on fighting radical Islamic culture.

    • mountainaires

Oh, right. They’re going to cut the defense budget by 25%. And, Obama’s going to have a national civilian force as big as our military. Meanwhile, Obama says he wants to increase the military troop levels by 2 Brigades. And, he’s going to cut out some of those unnecessary defense weapons systems, like “missile defense.” Meanwhile, Russia and China are developing new missiles.

Ahh, yes. “Change you can believe in.”

Is it a tad premature to discuss impeachment?

Multiple state registrations must be addressed.

    Acorn must be disbanded.

Yes, well, I’m sure the democrats will get right on that disbanding ACORN.

Obama will never be my president. It’s difficult to type with tears streaming down my face. Tears for my country, my family and for all the brave men and women who are fighting for our freedom, and the veterans who fought and died. This man will have to prove himself worthy if he ever expects to live in the White House. I have prayed that God give us the strength to continue fighting corrupt politics. I dreamed last night that the White House floors were covered in blood. Blood of the innocents, blood of our military, blood of those that dared to question “the one”… Perhaps now we can move on and start to heal…or perhaps we will soon hear the “heavy lockstep of boots outside our door”…I for one vow to never give up.

On my mind is a new feminism, I think we should all have this on our agenda, a feminism that also works against corruption.

I am not sad or angry, I just hope things will not turn out as bad as we expected; but my personal quest will be to contribute to a new, strong feminism and a positive stance. I am tired of all the uglyness, lets start being pragmatic and effective in things that are worth our energy.

      • lark

a feminism that also works against corruption.

Corruption of what? Language. The only thing that a new feminism can work against is mocking the other and with mocking having won the day, no one certainly would ever consider mocking as unlovely.

Change the world by mocking back at them.

ACORN must be disbanded; you’re right. I’m glad that so many Democrats broke with Obama, but that makes no difference unless they break with their party definitively and quit voting for downticket Democrats who fund ACORN.

The one silver lining we have is that there are (barely) enough Republicans to filibuster Obama.

A vote for downticket Democrats was a vote for one party Obammunist rule, to which we came perilously close.

    • Jan

The obama administration and DNC will never address fraud, because they are benefitting from it. They will only discuss it if it helps republicans. That is what has depressed me this election cycle – the democrats have out-done the republicans in dirty tricks and cheating, but it’s supposed to be fine because it helps us dems? Crap is still crap no matter who’s dishing it out.

And I look forward to the return to reality of everyone currently engaging in magical thinking, who imagine everything from here on out is going to be all rainbows, unicorns, and puppies. We’re in for deep trouble, and all the inspiring, focus-group tested slogans and cool social networking software in the world aren’t going to do squat about it.

It’s unfortunate for the country that some people are utterly incapable of detecting a bs artist; you’re obviously one of them, while the folks here are not. George Bush II seduced the gullible masses, and now Barack Obama has done the same. So when you and your pals come here spewing your infantile hate, I take comfort in the fact that I know what’s what. The masses of the stupid have always attacked the perceptive and farsighted. Just remember that one day you’ll know what group you truly belong to, and I promise you it won’t be a pleasant epiphany.

The Obama administration will never appoint Hillary to anything. His whole candidacy is about getting rid of the Clintons, that’s what so depressing to me that they won. It’s disappointing to see how easily people desert a great leader.

Her interest is in elected office. USSCt looks powerful, but really is not. Its a bunch of figureheads spending their lives waiting for something that they would like to do and will be allowed to do by each other to come along. Almost never really happens.

        • Kal

No, many lawyers look for the best way to do the most good, and often that does not consist of sitting on a bench.

  • evgenia

I don’t see how the Dems can keep justifying stimulus checks, with the upcoming round 2 of the checks, its just going to put us deeper into debt and not solve any long term economic concerns. A majority of socially-liberal, upwardly-mobile urbanites and suburbanites voted for him because they want to purge any remnants of Republican economic policies. Demographically and culturally I should have been an Obama supporter, however, I am a fiscal conservative as are the majority of Americans when they are polled on specific economic issues.

How is Obama going to accomplish all those social programs and tax cuts for the middle- class, however schizophrenically middle-class is defined, during this current economic downturn? All indicators point to either inflation if we keep extending our deficit spending, or economic depression if we impose heavier taxes on individuals and businesses deemed to be “wealthy”. How does an Obama administration account for such dilemmas? Redistributive economy is just as wrong when it is upward as is downward. That said, I’ve yet to have a proper debate with an Obama supporter on the efficacies of wealth redistribution or tax increases for the supposed wealthy. I have no problem with people who believe in such ideals as long as they are intellectually honest about them.

I know I should be grateful for the fact that I have a high-paying career, but I have worked hard to get to this point and I’m still working hard to achieve loftier goals. Our family immigrated here when I was nine years old, I was raised by a single mother. We were on public assistance for less than a year, my late mother insisted on working and not take handouts, and she worked as a waitress six days/ nights a week in order to support us. I put myself through school earning two degrees and am now attempting a doctorate while working close to full-time. What pisses me off is the fact that there are people out there who believe Obama will give them something for nothing. Those people are either going to be disillusioned or we’re truly inching towards an European, welfare state system.

I live in the Mission district in San Francisco, otherwise known as hipster haven . We are fortunate enough to have an enclave of family-run, ethnic restaurants, which incidentally are patronized by the very same hipsters when they feel the need to augment their hipness/ one-worldness. These restaurant owners are also the small business owners who would be hit by tax hikes. Yes, I’m being snarky about the hipster part ( I can be since I too have been described as one), but in all seriousness bad economic policies affect small businesses first because they don’t have high cash reserves or resources. I spoke to the owner of a Vietnamese noodle shop on my block a couple of days ago and he seems concerned about possible tax increases regardless of who won. What does an Obama administration say to hardworking people like that when it asks them to shoulder more tax burden?

I don’t expect the trolls to address these concerns in a constructive way, they’ll probably resort to more taunting and inane hyperbole like before the election.

    • http://wiskeytangofoxtrotoscar.blogspot.com/ James (San Jose)

I seriously doubt that denizens of N.Q. can keep any conversation civil evgenia. Have you looked at some of the comments by regulars here?

But what the hell, maybe you’re the exception that proves the rule.

It is not taxes that may do in small business owners, it is the credit crunch. Banks are not lending money. Obama could drop capital gains down to zero and small business owners would still be in a bad place. Follow the (lack of) money.

The core economic problem is not taxes, it is wages. Median income has shrunk in real terms while inflation has ticked along at slow but steady pace. Income inequality has gotten steadily worse since Bush came into office. The engine of the economy has always been the middle and working classes. Those are the people going to those trendy restaurants. They are the people who have watched their nest eggs evaporate in the housing market collapse.

And it those people who need tax relief. They are paying a larger portion of their income as taxes and have had more of the tax burden shifted on their shoulders. Meanwhile the very wealthy, the top 1/2 of 1% have made out quite nicely thank you. Well they were until the markets nose-dived. But the super rich can only purchase so many yachts and so many mansions. After that money gets plowed into speculative ventures.

On the other hand Middle Income people spend almost everything they get ( many spent more )putting cash in to the hands of the middle class stimulates the economy. Thus any serious attempt to get the economy out of the doldrums begins with both tax cuts for middle America and a raise of the minimum wage. It is all about putting money in the hands of people who will spend it.

This is known as Demand side economics. The last time it was practice in all its glory was in the post WWII era. It did very well until LBJ tried to pay for Vietnam on the cheep. The economy went sideways until the debt for Vietnam was payed off.

It is not that debt is bad; it is what the debt is used for that is the issue. Using debt to fund long-term infrastructure improvements is critical for the strength of a nation. Using debt to pay for routine government business is a bad idea. Using debt to reward the top 1/2 of 1% of the economic ladder got us were we are today with a busted economy.

But with the economy going south the worst thing we can do now is to compound the error of the Bush Administration by becoming deficit hawks. The Federal Government will have to step in and help strapped citizens and strapped states. Cutting back now would only worsen the economic downturn. The job market is contracting and companies are cutting back in other areas too. Workers need a life-line. Unemployment insurance and job retraining programs are critical. Otherwise unemployed workers will default on mortgages worsening a already toxic real estate market. We can not do as J.P. Morgan suggested in the 1930′s liquidate the farmers, liquidate the banks, liquidate the factories.

It is admirable that you go to school and hold down two jobs. It would be better for all though if you could go to school for free ( as students in California used to be able to in the days before Ronald Regan.) Your energies would be better deployed in learning not hustling to get a buck. It would also be better for all concerned if you did not end up deeply in debt whist getting educated.

Taxes are and shall always be “redistributionist.” The real issue is who gets the money, who gets the benefits. In a very real way you do. You get clean water, safe food, a social safety net, a transportation grid, police, fire; etc. More to the point you get a social structure that has laws that protect the gains you have made. You have courts of law that protect your contractual rights, you have a school system that educated you. Government touched your life every day of your life and in many different beneficial ways. In another place in another time your options would have not been so good. You would more than likely been condemned to a life of servitude. But this society gave you options and it did it via the public sphere. This society set up institutions that invested in you and allowed your hard work to advance your position. Without those public institutions you may not have made it as far as you have. Your family scraped by because of an invisible floor placed by the government (invisible to you at least.) Minimum wage and other laws (let’s hear it for child labor provisions!) supported your mom struggle for self-sufficiency. OSHA and other laws made her work place safe. Clean water acts and CARB made sure the water she drank and the air she breathed was healthful. The FDA made sure the food she consumed and the drugs she took were pure. All these things were done be “redistributing” wealth. Oh let us not forget 101, 280, 880 and other “socialist” schemes that you and mom benefited from. In S.F. you are surrounded by redistributionist schemes, the MUNI, the Embarcadero, parks and gardens of all description; two huge bridges built by other peoples’ money; etc, etc, etc. It’s called the civic space. It is called we the people.

Look around and tell me how all that is working. It works well, it would work better if there was move money invested not less. 101 needs expansion as does the BART; Caltrans needs expansion and schools need massive investment. Thanks to prop 13 California’s infrastructure has steadily decayed. California once lead the nation now it has become decidedly mediocre. Why? Because taxes in the upper incomes have been slashed and corporate taxes have evaporated. Large corporations pay next to no taxes while small and medium business get clobbered. Because progressive taxation is blocked regressive fees and sales taxes crop up like top seed. In reverse Robin Hood fashion those who make the most amount of money pay the least amount of taxes. But somehow no one at N.Q. has a problem with that type of redistribution. No one has a problem with the fact that Warren Buffet pays less of a percentage of his income in taxes than his secretary does. But suggest that maybe ol’ Warren should pay at least the same percentage (or perhaps more because he benefits more from our society) of his income as tax as does his secretary and you get labeled a Marxist.

  • Jo

Larry, you are right on… That has been part of their plan, from what I have read. Keep everyone confused so that he can’t be tied to anything. I think he is going to have trouble reconciling that. The left will start screaming soon…
Also, I believe he will be compromised on foreign policy especially with respect to the middle east, and Larry I must defer to your expertise, as I am simply a layman, But my guess, is that the people who REALLY make foreign policy decision in our government won’t be in his corner. So, he attempts at fulfilling his campaign promises will be compromised. I also see him creating a bubble around him like GW, only this time he won’t even let Biden in…unlike gw who had cheney on the inside. This similar insulation will provide him with an environment where he will shut out opposition and criticism so I think in a couple of years, if even that long, he will be in political trouble with the country…
Comments along these lines, please, Not from empty headed idealogues who care nothing about integrity and reason. Just from intelligent people like Larry and many of the people who are reading noquarter.
Thanks in advance for keeping your mouths shut, robots.
    Jo.

I think you’re right, Jo. Biden was nothing more that a tool. A low-class white man to garner blue collar white votes.

I couldn’t watch last night. So I crawled into bed with a book and read and prayed for a good result. Sigh.

I have learned some things since May that I wanted to share with all of you and ask for your thoughts as appropriate.

When I wake up with a hangover, I want a fountain coke without ice and the greasiest cheeseburger I can find. Then a half a day’s sleep. I guess that is what today will be. It is hard to imagine a better human being than John S. McCain. Remember that the national vote was very close vis a vis the electoral college and that John and Cindy aren’t going any where. I believe Sarah’s not going any where either. I just wish she were a governor here in the lower 48. Illinois would be good …. :) I don’t believe that the candidate we watched will molt into a good president. He doesn’t have the moral fibre for it. I don’t expect to be proven wrong.

I wish I could channel Tip O’Neill this morning. I don’t intend to wait for the elections in two years to raise my head again. If any of you have thoughts/experiences to share on how to make a difference, please let me know via this column.

There are some really fine, thoughtful, mind provoking writers here who will go to the ends of this good land in search of facts. Please keep up the good fight. It is obvious that the media couldn’t care less. I watched my own local newscast last night go on and on about the Starbuck’s offer wihout ever once mentioning that anyone could go in for a cup because “bribing” people to vote is a no-no. Yeah. Impressive. (yawn ….)

And now, what of Hillary? That is in fact what brought us all together, isn’t it? I think that her chances of being president now are nil. If 0bama is the tremendous stinker as prez we all know he will be we could wait another three administrations after him for another “D.” If he were to stun us all, she is the odd person out in her party. Thoughts?

I am crawling back in bed with my coffee, my dog, my book and riding out this “hangover.”

You are a terrific group of Americans. Love ya’.

    • csuzeq

I think Hillary will be forced out completely. All the centrists will have to be run out.

they were saying on MSNBC tonight that BOBO set up his election bid so that his isn’t beholden to to the democratic party if he wins. If his left fringe starts forcing people out, it won’t be long before the centrists find a home back in the republican party. The irony being they were forced out of the republican party when the fringe right took over back when Reagan was elected.

        • evgenia

It’s time for us to stop acting like tennis balls being volleyed back and forth but short of a third party, what are ex-Dems and Independents like myself to do?

It should be interesting to see the liberals of the Dem party take control and devour each other. There are simply too many beholden favors, promises, and confrontations with their constituencies in the months and years to come. If I didn’t love this country so much I’d enjoy watching them destroy themselves. But if that happens we’d suffer the consequences, not them.

          • WildChild

I’m a liberal. It’s the progressive fringe, feeling empowered over a BOBO win and mistakenly believing it was because of something he did as opposed to the complete failure of evangelic conservatism, that will be doing the purging. But that’s OK. When the fringe right came to power America hadn’t ever faced something like that before. But now we have. And it seems that the fringe left is starting this thing in the same state of mind the fringe right ended in.

          • lark

what are ex-Dems and Independents like myself to do?

Watch the scary movie that real life has become. Like Larry said above. Just watch and say a few words about it.

        • kgirl1028

You know that’s a slap in the face to some of his biggest fans. Obama is literally saying he do what ever the hell he wants to do. I”m starting to like this already. This will be anyting but boring.

          • WildChild

BOBO reached out to the right fringe immediately after the primaries were over and he was the presumed nom. By capturing both fringes the BOBO can completely ignore the center of the country. LOL and he’ll have the biggest bunch of zealot, mindless tools ever assembled to launch what ever crazy shit he had planned but didn’t tell us about when he was being vague about hope and change.

        • dpvegas

That makes sense to me. When all this insanity started back in January, and I saw how the left wing blogs were going, I wondered about their unquestioning enthusiasm for Barky, because they don’t like the Democratic Party. That’s why I’d pretty much stopped reading them all.

Us centrists are the majority, whether Democrat or Republican. It’d be nice if we could all quit listening to the propoganda of both sides, and start working together to rid ourselves of all this nonsense.

          • csuzeq

We must not be the majority or we would have elected the moderate.

            • tzada

We would have if not for ACORN, they are their master’s tools.

      • stodghie

the far right idealogues have been sent back to their dungeons. the far left think they have power, but it is the money men. it was always the money men even with the repubs. sure the far right never got what they wanted from bush. did you honestly think they would? neither will the obot/ayers/aa agenda. they’ll be out in the street with the religeous right and wall street will continue to be king. they’ll make a lot of noise and show their butts. i hope they do, so that all of the rest get sick of their sorry assex.

    • DJ

I think Limbaugh said last week if BO wins POTUS, the biggest loser would be Hillary. Her presidential aspirations are over. Even if McCain had won, my opinion of Hill went down a bit after I saw the amount of stumping she did for BO in the battleground states. She clearly chose party over country…. much like a typical politician. Even if she had the chance to run, I can’t say I’d vote for her now.

      • Mira

DJ, I agree. Looking at the situation objectively – Hillary Clinton promoted Obama and therefore helped get him elected.

I believe her actions clearly slow that she choose party over country. If I had the opportunity now, I believe I would not vote for Hillary Clinton.

      • tek

Do you not realize by now the forces that are brought to bear against these politicians. If you think average people get threatened, it’s nothing compared to what the people who run the country are exposed to.

        • etc.

All the more reason to have a leader who will stand up to his/her party. If Sarah Palin (who has much less experience that Hillary has in politics) can stand up to her party, then why the hell can’t Hillary Clinton?

I agree Mira – she chose party over country.

        • Athena the Warrior

Please stop covering for Hillary. She chose to campaign for a person who will set about destroying the very foundation of what America is.

There comes a time to take a stand and put the country first above all else. That time was now.

      • mimi

Well I’m sure the right wing is celebrating.

        Yes it’s over for Hillary.

And the PUMA MOVEMENT is a was!

        • Mary

          Not necessarily.

PUMA wasn’t just about Hillary; it was about the deceit and cheating by the DNC in caucuses and the RBC meeting pushing Obama to the forefront, and not actually listening to the Democratic voters.

If Obama as the LightBringer can’t get anything done—-and only Democrats will be to blame—-then PUMA’s will be quite active in the 2010 Congressional elections.

          PUMA wasn’t just about Clinton.

It was about principles, and against the Donna Brazilles of the DNC blatantly cheating to favor The One.

          It’s not a was.

    • http://www.cafepress.com/pumapride John House

“I don’t believe that the candidate we watched will molt into a good president.”

LOL, that is such great imagery…the Big Chicken Who refused to Face Both Clinton and McCain in REAL Debates molts…to nothing but a skinny skin & bones piece of deer-in-the-headlights.

      • lark

        deer-in-the-headlights

I think deer-in-the-headlights will be me, us. This man knows exactly what he is doing and the nightmare can end up only with bankruptcy.

        • lark

BTW, Hillary’s nightmare of an election ended too with bankruptcy. That stopped her. Now we just have to painfully watch this other bankrupt himself. But wait, his will be ours too.

    • Me

B-Bop (smiles) that’s what my beautiful kids call their grandfather! Anyhoo, here’s a suggestion for you…. The way I see it, the MSM OWNS this charlatan, so it is THEY we should first be directing our efforts towards. I, myself, gave up network news a LONG time ago, but from what I gather, MSNBC was THE WORST offender of Obama idolism; lets start with them!

First of all, how does any news outlet generate revenue? ADVERTISING!!! Get a list of their advertisers, and then start your calling/emailing/letter writing campaign. State that you and a great number of other people are of the opinion that this network interfered in the election process by promoting ONE candidate and disparaging all others, and that you could not possibly buy the product or use the service of any company affiliated with them in any way. It might take a while, but hey, we’ve got just under four years till the next election, right?

I just want to add, though, you need a great number of people who possess the courage of their convictions; if Garbage Bag #1 is your favorite brand, but they’re an advertiser, you HAVE to give it up! Strategic spending is one small way you can still weild your power and get your voice heard.

  • NoBama

Larry, great big hugs to you, your contributors and everyone who is making this site possible.
We’ll now sit back and see what, if anything Pres.-elect Barky will do. I’m confident he and his comrades Pelosi and Reid will provide us w/many “gotcha” and “I told ya so” moments. Hell, they’re probably scrubbing the promises section of his website now.

  • Lisa-NY

I agree, Hillary’s chances are nil for becoming President in 2012.
The conservatives are going to stir up a base now within the next 4 years.
Once the effect of Koolaid has worn off and people open their eyes to this facade, the Dems are in trouble. In 2010 it will be a Republican majority in both houses..of course I am projecting , but half the country is not happy this morning and those that didn’t vote will soon be kicking themselves.
Thank you Larry and No Quarter, I intend to be here daily to check in on the safe-haven that this has become.

    • Monet

I think we’ll see a sweep of conservative republicans taking office in ’10 too. There’s no funding to do what Senator Obama as promised. Our economy is on life support and unfortunately, it’s global. If we’re lucky, we won’t be any worse off in two years but it’s doubtful we will have seen significant improvement or that Senator Obama will have kept many of his promises.. The Obama voters aren’t going to take that well and they’ll vote out Congress next.

However, there is the wild card of Senator Obama. None of us really know where he stands. Maybe he’ll realize he can’t continue to build the deficit. But even if he starts attacking it, he won’t be doing anything about the promises he made that people voted on.

      • lark

I think we’ll see a sweep of conservative republicans taking office in ‘10 too.

I don’t think so. Democrats are not going to play along with Obama. I don’t think Republicans will recover from this one very easily. Barry will change America for good. This mistake could cost us the country. Barry will ensue full fetched chaos by this time next year.

        • tek

My fear is that Obama will create a majority of Mexicans and blacks and they will become the mainstream population in this country. Listen to the Democrats rhetoric, that’s what they’re saying. I’m not sure the total implications of it, but they will have a new party that the traditional bases of the other parties can’t overcome.

  • kgirl1028

YOu know one thing i was looking forward to is having sanity restored to some of these obama supporters. To a certain extent i can stand obama better than i can stand his followers. I was hoping after some therapy people would return to their nomrals selves. Alas it will not be me, but reality, and reality is such bitch. Rarely does she cut her nails. oh well. On to mass hysteria.

  • honora

Good morning, I am already over the pity-party thing. America needs us more today than she did yesterday–but unfortunately, not as much as tomorrow!!!! We must work to fix the nominating process and close the tracker-trailer sized loophole that Obama drove through the campaign finance laws. Please support America don’t give up. Peace PUMA

  • Monet

What else should we be thinking about?

Health care. I think most of the people I know who voted for Senator Obama did so because they believed they would finally be able to afford health care.

Others chose to vote for him because they believed his plan to give businesses tax credits for creating new jobs here would happen and would give them more employment opportunities. I also think they believed these would be jobs that would give them middle class incomes, not working poor incomes.

The rest were just voting against Republicans. What happens when their lives don’t improve?

Looking at the tallies this morning, a couple of things stick out for me. One is it looks like the undecided stayed home. Were they just so confused they were afraid of making the wrong choice? Or are they so throughly disgusted with elections they can’t trust they stayed away from the polls? I think it’s something that should be examined.

The second thing that stands out is that the people voting for Senator Obama, believed they were voting for immediate change. The freefalling economy would stop. The wars would stop. With the Iraq war done, we’d have tons of money again – they don’t seem to realize we have a huge war debt to pay off before we’ll see any extra cash because the Iraq War is over. The dollar isn’t going to climb until we dig into the debt. Until we pay off that debt, we are at the mercy of nations we probably shouldn’t be indebted to.

Senator Obama keeps talking about how we’ll have an uphill hike, how we’ll all have to work hard and sacrifice. But I don’t think one of his voters realizes that pertains to them. They think they’re going to get a nice tax refund, the stock market will climb quickly, there will be no more brokerage, bank, insurance companies failures, their jobs will be secure again. I don’t think they realize we crashed into the tip of the iceberg in September, we still have no idea what is submerged and how much damage it has done and will continue to do.

My grasp at the moment is at least a quarter of this nation that voted for Senator Obama yesterday did so because they want immediate relief and happy days again. They think they’ll start seeing it within a few months of him taking office. They’re done with the strife, the worry, the fright and all the dark stuff we’ve experienced. They expect tax cuts that only a foolhardy Oval Office would pursue. They expect to see taxes raised for the rich and businesses. That is as realistic in our current economic climate as tax cuts. They believe since $700 billion could be found for Wall Street that there’s tons of money lurking somewhere. What happens when Senator Obama back pedals on his promises and things don’t improve? Or he keeps his promises and things get much worse?

The quarter of the country that voted for Senator McCain did so because they don’t believe immediate relief and happy days are around the corner. They believed that careful planning, a steady hand, a cutting of the budget with few new expenditures – not promises that can’t be kept is what is needed to stop the nation from the freefall. These people are pragmatists. Hope and change is corniness for a fourteen year old’s diary. How patient will they be with an Obama presidency before they call a halt to the honeymoon?

    • evgenia

Senator Obama keeps talking about how we’ll have an uphill hike, how we’ll all have to work hard and sacrifice. But I don’t think one of his voters realizes that pertains to them. They think they’re going to get a nice tax refund, the stock market will climb quickly, there will be no more brokerage, bank, insurance companies failures, their jobs will be secure again.

People want to believe in the best case scenario, we all do, whether be it concerning our health or personal finances. Sometimes I think we voters, despite protestations to the contrary, really do not wan to hear the truth from politicians. We would rather be lied to by charlatans with good slogans. America gets the president it deserves. Two Bush terms and now an Obama presidency says volumes about the dire state of our collective consciousness.

    • lark

What happens when their lives don’t improve?

The people storm Congress. Remember when the Russians stormed the Kremlin before Yeltsin.

      • Mary

Yes. And just like Gingrich’s retake in 1994.

Obama will disappoint his supporters, because he knows he can’t deliver what he promised. He ALWAYS knew that.

But he wanted to win, so he misled them.

        • Ellen D

Apparently Obama likes playing poker. I think America just called his bluff.I wonder if in the beginning he thought he wouldn’t win and could make a career of playing the victim.

  • http://www.cafepress.com/pumapride John House

Our focus for the near term will be keeping track of how well Barack does in making good on his promises.

Sounds like a plan to me!

    • lark

I would focus more on how the Dems will begin to detach themselves from Obama and denounce him. I think Nadler did that just two days ago. I wish I can listen to what he said again.

  • DJ

Thanks, Larry, for continuing on with NQ. I’ve given up on MSM for news.

OT: In case anyone wants to read a couple of articles on Gov Palin after MCCain’s concession speech.

“A little-noticed private curtain call for Sarah Palin after defeat” (LA Times) == http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/11/sarah-palin-201.html

    • Me

My gut reaction…. Choosing Sarah Palin was a wonderfully strategic move; in one fell swoop, they pull-in the small town people, the right-to-life people, the gun owners, women of many different backgrounds, etc. I clearly remember seeing clips and still pictures of omarxist in the days that followed; one could tell that he was visibly shaken — pissed-off, even. Then the Minisry of Propaganda kicked into overtime trashing her (does anyone else smell the stinky hand of Karl Rove in all that?).

The LAT article you linked to has a bunch of boneheaded comments, and that just keeps reminding me how the media distorted everything about her they could think of. Well, like I wrote in another post, “they bought him.” One can only hope that someday they’ll have to pay for him, too.

  • johninca

What else should we be thinking about?

    1. A Big Media boycott, or some major effort to reduce their viewership and power.

    2. Republican senators should be encouraged to filibuster and hold the line for two years until reinforcements arrive in 2010.

    3. Congressional Democrats must be watched like hawks for ACORN funding and similar hanky panky.

  • ladynite54

Tell me I am not seeing this. What the hell happen, you mean to tell me that people believed enough in Barack Hussein Obama to vote this thug into office.

Did he really just buy the White House, I did not watch television last night nor did I stay on the computer, I wanted to be surprised so I just now came on-line If this is a dream please let me wake up.

  • Alice Paul WPB

I think what bothers me a lot is the fact that I believe Gov Palin may have been a big reason for Senator McCain’s loosing.

Now hear me out. Even though I didn’t agree with her on a lot of issues I liked her. But there were polls I looked at that said even though some liked McCain they didn’t like her.

I will always believe that people in this Country just couldn’t imagine her in the White House and that’s what gets me. They would rather BO with little to no experience and questionable issues than a woman.

I thought we had gotten further than that. And I think that is what hurts. Another is that I still believe there were forces on BO’s side causing problems to occur with the economy and the American people fell for it.

I still would like one BO supporter to tell me what in his background makes them feel that he is experienced enough to run this Country?

    • tek

McCain lost because the economy tanked, period. That was Soros’ plan to get Bambi in the WH. McCain was way ahead until then, he never got the lead back. The media also pounded McCain mercilessly. Hard to overcome the media bias.

      • JozefAL

tek, you realize that the last part of your comment totally negated the very first sentence, don’t you?
If McCain lost because the economy tanked period, as you state, then nothing else mattered.
The REAL reason that McCain lost was the media bias, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. The media gave Obama the same free pass it gave Dubya in 2000 (and the media helped cover up a lot of serious matters just as it did in Dubya’s run up to war in Iraq).

  • tillthen

The lazy, stupid, ignorant Youlose, has already lost. He’ll be sittin’ on his front stoop a year from now wonderin’ ‘where’s my cut.’

No, ‘Youlose’, the time tested phrase, ‘There’s no free lunch’ still holds true. Obama doesn’t give a rat’s ass for you and your ilk. You lose.

    • Mary

True dat. And it’s so incredibly sad that “Youlose” is too stupid to understand that he was USED.

Youlose will be the first employee (if he’s employed at all) that will be let go by the small business owner facing higher taxes under Obama.

And Youlose won’t have a clue how it happened.

      Sad, really.

  • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

Well for one, the Democratic party is weak on National Security in my opinion. We are not leaving Iraq anytime soon. It’s nice to want to believe it, and his supporters will be just as disappointed as they were with FISA. When I think of the fact that he will have that much power at his fingertips, then think of everything I have witnessed personally. I don’t blame none of the people I listened to in formation this morning that said they were letting there contracts ride out.

If our retention numbers drop really low from now, until January then it’s stop loss. I wish they could put on hold deployments from now until January. I have not been to sleep YET since last night so disregard the typo’s

    • johninca

Don’t worry about typos, and rest assured that you’re not the only one having sleepless nights.

The disaster is not just that Obama won but that every vote for congressional Democrats brought him closer to total control. I hope Democrats here will ponder that.

I’m afraid many of my colleagues at the Confluence are still quite far from grasping how monumentally unwise it was to vote Democratic downticket.

      • lark

Republicans who lost probably deserved it. Don’t worry, Dems will take a hold of the chaos they have created and make a chaotic marmalade.

    • csuzeq

I am wondering how soon the WORMs start. Say, maybe noon today?

  • JS Ruby

I can’t wait for all those people with stars in their eyes who voted BO, to get a reality check. It will be quite an eyeopener. I just hope we survive 4 years of BO and the Dems in control.

    • Alice Paul WPB

That’s the problem will we survive? I have grave concerns about our National security, about Israel’s security.

Even if you are not Jewish people should still want to protect Israel. It would be a Biblical catastrophe if she goes down.

BO and Congress will be able to do pretty much anything they wish!

      • csuzeq

Sadly, my jewish boyfriend voted for Obama, even though he said he wouldn’t probably be good for Israel. I have never understood it. He thinks Obama is a nice guy and I am completely misjudging him.

        • jbjd

Even my black Jewish son, glad to have a black President, hates BO.

      • suz

I totally agree with you—-Israel is are only friend in the Middle East. Also, I am not Jewish.

      • JozefAL

Alice, I’m sorry but since the current State of Israel was not created through any sort of “divine intervention”, there’s no worries that “biblical” is an accurate adjective.
The only people who fret about Israel in terms of “biblical” anything are the type of people whom *I* don’t want near *THE* button. Right-wing Christians only appreciate Israel for the role that it supposedly has in bringing about the end of the world (and I think THAT would be a greater “Biblical catastrophe”). Until the very late 1970s, these same Christians were right at the forefront of anti-Semitism in this country. Oh, they might not have been as blatant about it as the Klan, but it was there. Consider how Jerry Falwell and his ilk were so quick to invent the term “Judeo-Christian” to bolster their rationale for lending political support for Jews (whom they generally despised).
I’m just glad that many leading Israelis have finally seen through this whole rhetoric and don’t really want that evangelical support. Just think how you’d feel knowing the only reason people liked you was because you’d be the “final battleground” before the world’s destroyed. (If that son-of-a-bitch John had put the final battle of Armageddon in Western Turkey, Israel wouldn’t be of much interest to the “end-times” people. Bad enough the guy was out of his head either from a really bad fever or from eating some “special” plants on the island.)

All of those expecting that stimulous check are going to be very suprised when it doesn’t get approved. The Democrats watched Fannie and Freddie give it all away. Too bad. Reality bites, doesn’t it?

Great day for America. Obama is going to be a great president. Can go no where but up from here. George Bush you are fired!!!

    • tek

      • Mary

Philip doesn’t remember that Obama said Republicans were the party of ideas, during the primary.

        Obama ADMIRES Reagan, Philip.

He played you like a drum.

    • JozefAL

What Philip doesn’t understand is that the last the Democrats “were in charge of” this country, that lasted all of two years.
Clinton was elected President in Nov 1992, and took office with a House with 258 Democrats (compared to 176 GOPers) and a Senate with 57 Democrats (compared to only 43 GOPers). With the Congressional elections in 1994, the Democrats lost 54 House seats (putting them in the minority by a 26-seat margin) and 9 Senate seats (putting them in the minority by a 4-seat margin).
And in spite of Bill’s re-election in 1996, the Dems lost another 2 seats in the Senate (although they did pick up 3 whole seats in the House), keeping them in the minority throughout Clinton’s term of office.
When Clinton DID have a Democratic House and Senate, he faced considerable opposition from them on a number of issues. I honestly believe that the Democrats in Congress had become TOO accustomed to playing the opposition–they’d controlled the House solidly from the 1954 election (even then, they’d largely controlled the House from 1932, only losing briefly in the 1946 mid-term elections and the 1952 Presidential election, for a total of only 4 years), and they’d controlled the Senate pretty much the same (beyond the two brief periods already noted, the only difference was the 1980 elections when enough GOPers rode the Reagan coattails to put the Senate in GOP hands for the first 6 years of Reagan’s administration). With THAT kind of power came a genuine hubris–while the Dems controlled Congress, only two Democrats were elected President to more than one term in office, FDR and Bill Clinton. Truman stepped into the Presidency but had lost so much support (as noted by the switch in Congressional power in the 1946 elections) that even members of his own party were expecting to lose the White House in 1948 (he managed to survive, but wisely chose not to run again in 1952, even though he could have–the 22nd Amendment didn’t apply to him). JFK, of course, was assassinated before the end of his first term, and LBJ, who stepped in, managed to win in 1964 (though almost assuredly as a sympathy vote); LBJ, of course, barely managed to survive a Southern Democrat uprising (thanks to the Civil Rights bills–you remember, the ones that Obama attacked Hillary over when she dared note the fact that it took LBJ to actually get the legislation through?) and the toll that Vietnam was taking on his health led him to withdraw his name from consideration. Then, there was Carter, who was elected in the second post-Watergate election (the first in 1974 witnessed a major revolution as Democrats climbed to 60 seats in the Senate and 291 in the House–an increase of 4 and 49 seats, respectively) in a further reaction to Watergate and the negative view of the GOP’s perceived “complicity”. Carter, of course, lost in 1980 (after being challenged by Ted Kennedy–the same man who wanted Hillary to give up and then played a very complicit role in attempting to keep her name from the convention floor), most notably due to the Iran hostage situation; of course, if the Reagan-Bush team hadn’t played politics with the hostages’ lives (as we now know), Carter might have won re-election despite overall general dissatisfaction with his administration. So, that makes 4 Democratic Presidents whose administrations came and went during the Democratic Congressional heyday (except for Truman in 1947-48, ALL of those Presidents had Democratic-majority Congresses through their terms of office). And the second Democrat who would serve two full terms saw “his” Party lose Congress (not that they didn’t deserve it–so many Democrats fought Clinton tooth and nail on gays in the military and health care, just to name a few issues, that they might as well have been the formal opposition; a couple of Democrats even went so far as to switch to the GOP because of their antipathy of Clinton, believing him to be “too liberal”).

      • Mary

I’m firmly convinced that Obama is going to have more trouble from the factions in his own Democratic Party than he is with Republicans.

Remember, HIllary’s healthcare plan in the early 90′s didn’t fail just because of the Republicans. A significant number of Democrats joined with those Republicans to vote against it.

Obama will struggle with the true liberals in his party, vs. the new “bipartisan” team he wants to build.

His own Democrats may cause failures that result in Congressional losses in 2010.

    • Phillip

No sense in arguing with you guys. You are stuck in your ways. I never voted for Bush, but I gave him a chance and he blew it.

Let’s see what Obama can do. He has a clear, very clear, mandate to take the country in another direction.

He is a smart guy who will figure it out.

Despite your best efforts, he is not a black radical, a Muslim, a terrorist, an uppity, a communist/Marxist or whatever else you guys tried to label him. He is actually pretty straight down the middle.

It will be nice to have someone with half a brain and open to listen to other and different points of view in charge again.

Out with the old guard and in with the new generation.

There is always 2012. You guys can now fight within your Republican party for Palin to take-over, as most of you seemed to be big Palin fans on this website.

I got a lot of amusement from reading the posts on this website. It was truly educational in trying to read the brain of a Republican voter. I think what I take away most is that most of you vote purely on character and not really on policy. 90% of what has been posted on this site had to do with character. Very eye opening. I agree character is important, but policy also matters and maybe even more in these times, and where I disagree is in your only focus was in just trying to tear the other guy down.

      See you in four years.

    • JEva

      Phillip,
I am no fan of Bush but I hate to tell you an Obama victory last night did not oust Bush from office as president. If you read the Constitution lately, you would know the 22nd Amendment limited Bush to two terms as president. No one can be “fired” from a position if the law states one is ineligible to hold a position. Unless Obama is planning to repeal the Amendment, Obama will be “fired” after a possible second term just like George Bush.

  • Not convinced

You know. Part of me wants to gloat about this win. Not because McCain lost, but because so many here seemed so sure he’d win (I respect putting a good face forward, but it seemed like some were really convinced).

What I will say is that I deeply respect John McCain. I really think that if his campaign had been able to exist on the same level or respect and moderation that McCain does, he may have won this. I mean to say, I believe that his campaign managers (or maybe just his desire to win) ended up skewing what was great about McCain.

That being said, his speech was in good taste, and left his noticably negative campaign on a much better note.

    • JozefAL

Oh, go to hell. McCain’s “negative campaign” was a FICTION of the mainstream media that was so up Obama’s ass since Iowa that it wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped right out at them and yelled “Boo”.
I voted for Cynthia McKinney (had to WRITE IN HER NAME), so I’m not all that concerned about McCain’s loss. But I don’t believe anyone who watched with eyes wide open (or without all the Obama hopium and kool-aid) would have said that McCAIN’S campaign was negative. (Did you not see all the Obama attack ads? They were just as “negative” as McCain’s allegedly were. The Obama team claimed they were only attacking McCain’s record. But when McCain–not the 527s, mind you, or other independent sources–attacked Obama’s record, he was viewed as “negative”. Of course, when your overall record–votes and associations–IS negative, it’s hard for your opponent to stay “positive”. But, I’m guessing that in your warped mindset, Obama’s shit is pure gold. So, why don’t you go mine some more gold?)

(Seriously, dude, if you hadn’t pulled off the “negative campaign” bullshit, people might actually think there’s an Obamadroid with some class.)

  • Hope is the last to die

Russia’s response was expected. The nationalists are now going wild calling Obama the “American Gorbachev” that’ll lead the US to destruction. Joe Biden was right about the fact Obama will be tested. He’s seen as extremely weak and everyone think they can now do whatever they want without the US or NATO stopping them.

I’ve been saying this all along. Obama’s coronation will boost the confidence of American enemies.

  • tillthen

I just made a donation to NQ which I am dedicating to the rehabilitation of YOULOSE, to turn it from a fat lazy useless Obot to a functioning member of society.

Yes, youlose, this one’s for you! Long live NQ and may it dog and hound the FRAUD OBAMA until he is exiled from America and back to his birth nation, Kenya.

    • beebop

I did it too. I do not intend to idly sit and watch this great country slip in stature. But to hell with the bots. I want to see the cold water of 0bama reality thrown in their faces. He will replace Jimmy Carter as worst Democratic president.

      • Mary

They won’t have anyone else to blame or hate anymore, once Obama and Dems run everything, will they, Beebop?

        Give it 6 months.

Youlose and the blogger boyz will be whining that Obama betrayed them.

        Well, duh…..

OT: Bill Clinton was right when he said the Obama campaign is trying to take the election away from the American people.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWmaHAzNLl4

    • Mira

Richard, if President Clinton was right, and the Obama campaign were trying to take the election away from the people why did he campaign for Obama and tell the media he supported him?

Did this not endorse Obama for many democrats who can’t think for themselves? Did he help Obama to win? I think he did and I think he put himself and his party before his country. Where is the patriot?

  • avwrobel

We must be vegilant in deconstructing this election, and keeping the facts regarding Obambi’s theft of the Democratic nomination constantly updated. Naturally, Obambi’s supporters and the fawning media will say ‘that’s old news’. But THIS IS WHO HE IS!! Over the coming months his character flaws and messianic tendencies will exert themselves. And its up to us to keep holding him accountable. Also the birthplace issue should still be pursued.

    • Athena the Warrior

Help me understand this. Using Fox’s interactive state map both Ohio and Pennsylvania went blue. However when you click on the individual state it breaks down how each county voted.

68 out of 88 counties voted for McCain in Ohio.
49 out of 67 counties voted for McCain in Pennsylvania.

How could these (and possibly others) be counted for BoBo?

      • Athena the Warrior

        Adding Florida to the mix:

52 out of 67 counties voted for McCain.

      • cfloyd

Seriously? You don’t understand that counties have wildly different populations?

  • somerset

I know of several Republican men who wouldn’t vote for McCain because he might die in office and we would have “that woman” be president. One of these days, those female obats will look in mirror and ask, “why isn’t a woman ever president or vice president”? The extent of their delusions are mind-blowing. It is reported that in one of those enlightened places near where obama was really born, they just stoned a 13 year old girl to death after she had been raped. Buried her up to her head in sand and then they threw the rocks. 1000 people watched. But hey, who needs women in power to effect change.

    • csuzeq

The good thing is that these supporters of his will now have to watch what he does, instead of just listening to his empty words. When you start really paying attention to the fact that he says things and then the action behind those words is opposite of the words, you realize what a sleaze the guy is.

      Dear Obots:

You bought him, you own him. I had him shoved down my throat and he tastes nasty. I will enjoy seeing your face when you find out.

  • Steve1

I don’t think all of the covered issues surrounding Mr. Barry Soetoro are going to go away! I believe they are going to come clearer and stronger. Get ready for a very wild bumpy ride! I’m still prepared to get our Dem party back to a clearer middle ground. It is going to get worst with this compromised, controlled puppet in the White House.

  • http://www.anvp.typepad.com soldier4hillary

I dont have hatred for Obama. I think the highest position our country has to offer should be based on who can do the job and not how bad of a job the last administration did. The issues I have are many since I have seen it all first hand. However, I do not trust Senator Obama. If they would of treated him as any other candidate by allowing questions to be asked and answered without the person being racist or answer the questions about his campaign finance, explain his associations etc etc

Last night I read an article by the Washington post that interviewed Ayers and gave the article a “sympathy” feel by attempting to make his actions a “non issue”. But there are bigger reasons why I do not want him in control and I was standing next to 65 of them this morning.

Right now, military and vets have no one on our side when it comes to the issues. If Senator Obama cuts our funding in Iraq, a phrase he uses constantly in his speeches. We will be coming home in body bags. War is not pretty, its not a necessity, but something that happens to come with the job when it warrants it.

I understand people want “change” but Senator Obama in my opinion was not it. There is nothing anyone can say to me to convince me to go on his word instead of his record, that doesnt exist. Because his “words” were never required to answer the important questions.

Imagine if on 4 Nov you were on a convoy in BIAP (Baghdad International Airport) at night, because we dont convoy during the day, your the convoy commander and your responsibility is to ensure you make it to point a to b safely. You have local Iraqi nationals on your convoy because your escorting them to the next FOB. How would you feel if the local Iraqi nationals were celebrating in the street and excited about YOUR countries new elected president? Now use that scenario in reverse with Afghanistan, Kenya & Jakarta.

No, I dont want them to be interviewed on the “joy” they now have and how much they look “forward” to Obama taking office. I feel as if the people have sold us out to have a historical election. I am black but the only colors I am allowed to see are RED.WHITE.AND.BLUE.

Look what is happening with Hamas and Israel. People just do not get it because they continue to place themselves first by making decisions based on there personal feelings. I am sorry. I am unable to have the faith Obama supporters have in regards to him. I cannot take words alone. I need evidence of what he has accomplished. It’s bad enough they dont even count our votes. No one came and fought for those soldiers from Virgina who ballots were thrown out. But when the NAACP filed a lawsuit everyone was up in arms because they knew Obama needed our vote, the AA vote.

Everyone is wondering what is going to happen next. Others seem as if they are ready to run for the border and there are others that just don’t care. But as of right now, the Democrats are not to keen on “there military”. The Democrats, some, dont place our issues as a major point until something happens.

    • Pennsylvania Red

This is one of the most troubling aspects of the n0bama win.

  • http://clogsville.wordpress.com NetherLands

Thank you NQ for covering news that the MSM over here didn’t (with a few exceptions), it’s good to hear that the coverage will continue.

The thing that startled me the most was the whole registration-no identification mess that apparenly exists in the US. That really needs sorting out. The whole painting of ‘photo-ID requirements = racist’ that http://www.stealbackyourvote.org and other BO-fronts trumpeteer (turns out at least part of the Dutch press used it as their main source of info on the US voting system – no cigar wether ACORN ever made headlines here) is beyond silly.

Also, I don’t understand the need for the caucus-system, to most Europeans it seems really undemocratic (no private vote) and, well, again silly.

In a similar vein, EFCA/abolishment secret ballot didn’t get enough attention, for which I really blame the Republicans as it is was an easy enough to understand issue that would show the quintessential BO-personality, authoritarianism and elitism to voters. Heck, even McGovern is against it.

Another issue ís the whole Obama-Odinga connection, especially with the Waki-report calling for a tribunal (possibly over here in The Hague, whoopee). The core issue was/is basically wether a US-Senator should interfere AT ALL with elections in other countries, especially in volatile regions like Africa. It surprised me this issue never got any traction in the media; personally I think the issue may have gotten tainted by painting Odinga as a ‘Marxist-Muslim-Mass-Murderer that wants to impose Sharia’ which is much too convulted (also, it isn’t as if Kibaki is a saint, either; basically what we saw in Januar was pretty much ‘African politics as usual’ – which is one reason US Senators should stay out of it)

The work of Patrick Fitzgerald in Illinois/Chicago seems critical to follow. If it’s anything like over here with the EU-corruption he’ll simply turn in a
    back-page feature otherwise.

Follow the money. There have been complaints in Nigeria over funding Obama, and if really 200mil is unaccounted for that means BO may have had almost as much tainted money as Mac & the RNC had for their whole campaign. That really doesn’t pass the smell-test.

    • kgirl1028

face it no one is going to look there until obama the great does soemthing to piss them off and by then he will be so firmly entrencehd and on their backs it won’t matter. Obama has had these fools right were he and a lot of people wanted them. They want a savior not a leader. they do’t realize you have to save yourself. Let them buy into the myths reality will smack them soon enough. I hate to be so callous. But when i think back on the way they treated the clintons, Sarah Palin, the deserve what they are going to get.

  • educatedwhitewoman

The saddest thing of all is that so many people of color voted for this man who has never done anything for minorities, and the next saddest thing is the sheer ignorance of the vast majority of his followers, who, when asked could not come up with a single reason to support this man except “hope and change.” History is strewn with despotic and failed leaders voted in on such mindless drivel. This president-elect has less experience and judgment than most politicians and civic leaders that I know, including on the state level. Of course, he tried to dampen down expectations about all of those ridiculous campaign promises. I feel sorriest for those poor people who think that now they will live on easy street because the government under BO will take care of them and provide their needs. They will fast learn that socialism leads to equal misery. I know many business people who will now be cutting back rather than pay higher taxes. Why should they work long hours and take risks to try and grow their businesses and fortune, when it will just be taken away and given to those who choose to work less or not work at all? Jobs will be lost and the economy will worsen. We can thank this fiasco in large part to a campaign that broke the finance laws, accepted illegal contributions through a credit-card scheme that did not screen repeat and foreign donors and a MSM, better known as the Obamamedia, a group of journalists who ignored all of these thorny and difficult issues surrounding their chosen “one,” including his lack of experience, radical associates, and a secretive past. As Krauthammer noted, we do not know this man except for his words. Talk is cheap.

  • KarenAnn

I would like Larrry and company to keep a watch for this “national civilian security force”. Also, someone told me last night that Obama wants to pull ALL forces from everywhere. Is that true? The only bright spot is that he democrats did not get their super majority.
I am very glad that NQ isn’t going anywhere. However I wonder how long it will be before the left wants total control of information dessimation.
I think Obama is about to embark on a grand experiment with this country.

I really hope that I was seeing a allusion when I read that Ayers was going to be a amabassador for something. I am trying to find and reference the article I read. One of my soldiers spouses sent it to me but I cant find it. I hope that is not why they are doing interviews and these “feel good” sob stories on him. Obama supporters on TM think he is just swell.

But I got some thinking to do so I will check in later.

    • KarenAnn

He will probably appoint Ayers Sec of Education, Kalidi (sp?) Ambassador to the new Palestine, Wright Reverend in chief, Bernie Dhorn Atty Gen., John Kerry is hoping for Sec of State (which is good cuz it gets him out of MA).

Ok enough with the Hillary nonsense I have no stomach to praise Hillary for the next four years especially since she jumped into the middle of this race going all over the place stumping for Obama.

I am not going to say she had no effect on how some in democrats because the exit polls are there to show, so even if some democrats were crying all over the place about what was done to Hillary when she asked them to support Obama they did, maybe some pretended to be Puma’s or whatever but on voting day they were Hillary Democrats before anything else.

Now all who wants to sit and wait on this big announcement of some high status job for Hillary well they can wait on it, its left to be seen. Someone made an excellent point here in another post Obama no longer needs, Hillary, Bill, the young silly voters, and even the black vote, he is President now.

Obama no longer has to pretend about change, or throw out frilly words that he will make all things right for everyone new hope and so on. Instantly from last night he began toning down the hype, he says it may not happen in this term , its a long hard road, in other words all what you expected cannot be delivered right now so wait, change will come but as to when well your guess is as good as mine.

Without Sarah Palin campaigning and drawing crowds like she did, McCain would have faded into the woodwork. He was beginning to be ignored by the media as it was. Palin brought everyone back to his campaign. I am grateful for that because he had a good showing in this race and he deserves the acclaim. He is a great man and would have been an excellent president. He would have risen to the position–I am sure of it. I don’t have that same confidence in Obama. I think we are in for a rough four years.

Sarah was new and a female. Female being the operative word here. For some reason being a female is still considered a curse.

Sarah was crucified by the Obama people and the Obama media. Look what they did to Joe the Plumber. Personally, I loved Sarah and her family. I want people like that to represent me in Washington. She had good common sense and was a fighter. She was one of those “get er done” people. What Washington is full of now is a bunch of “do nothings.”

You should head over to Heartfeldt.com sometime and watch the feminists do it to themselves. Steinem, Feldt, Morgan, Jong, Kandy – they all piled in on Palin with a vicious glee that far surpassed the normal misogyny we’re used to – just for the fact that feminists were violating every tenet of their movement to destroy this woman and get Barky into the White House.

          Sad.

People wanted change, little did they know that Obama IS the change. That’s the extent of change that they’re going to get out of him. Four years of being Obama, Obama hogging the national limelight, Obama speechifying. Obama! Obama! Obama! He’ll have a next to impossible time controlling infighting Dems and public impatience with the slumping economy. Now that he holds the key to the coffer, he’ll have to deliver or shut up, which is a weird situation for him since he’s not known to do either.

I would welcome Obama to San Francisco more often, since this city has the effects of sodium thiopental on him. Maybe then he’ll reveal what’s truly in store for us in the next four years.

    • csuzeq

After his first 143 days as POTUS, he will abandon the post to seek a higher office. I’m not sure what that is, but I’m sure he can create something.

I think there’s a job opening for “God”.

(Okay, this IS a bit snarky. There were people posting at other sites that “God” would never allow Obama to be elected President. I’m guessing they’re going to have to chalk this one up to one of two possibilites: 1) God doesn’t exist; 2) God doesn’t bother with all the pathetic little details that are apparently so important to people–like politics and football games.)

I just wanted to say THANK-YOU to all the writers here on NQ. I have been reading this site for months and so far have never commented. I have found this site to be a wonderful source of information. I personally think that Mac lost because Bush has been such a bad president the American people didn’t want to take a chance on another repub. I think Obama will be a bad president also because he has some of the same personality traits that Bush has.(BTW, I’m sorry if this is incoherent but I didn’t sleep well last night). Anyway, to all the Obots out there. Winning is the easy part, now O has to govern. The repubs tries to take the country to the far right and now they are paying the price. If O tries to take this country to the far left, the dems will also pay in 2010 and 2012 and maybe beyond. We made it through 8 years of Bush and we will make it throught 4 years of O. Hillary will be awesome in the Senate, and as she once said “the senate is where the real power is.” Peace to everyone and try not to get to down. BTW, does anyone know what is up with Hillbuzz?

  • DAB

One thing that we should make sure of is that CHRIS MATTHEWS NEVER MAKES IT INTO THE SENATE! That may seem like a small goal right now, but one worth pursuing. Obama’s luster is likely to fade by then and we should remind PA voters of how Matthews got us into this mess and what a potty mouth he is/was.

I do believe that the PUMAs actually kept the margin of victory down since some polls were showing a 9-11 point lead for BO and last I checked it was more like 5. McCain’s attempt to distance himself from the Bush legacy was a daunting task and considering other things he was up against (being outspent, media bias, etc.) he did OKAY.

Thanks Larry for providing this site. You have saved us a lot of therapy money. I intend to continue to visit No Quarter.

    • Blessed Day!

Well, I guess that’s one way to feel relevant when in fact, the margin of victory is not relevant at all when there’s been a decisive WIN.

On a side note, I and millions of others will personally donate money to Chris Matthews’ campaign should he decide to run for the U.S. Senate seat in PA.

I hope you all begin to self-reflect on the venom and vile that apparetnly resides within your hearts and minds. It is very ugly and painful to witness.

      • BJ

decisive win? LOL! damn! you don’t read the media do you ? even the obama media have all reported this wasn’t a decisive win..

Oh wow I feel so special now that CNN did a two minute segment in Bagram on “The Troops Reaction” to Obama! They interviewed one black soldier and now that should be called the entire military’s reaction? God, 4 years of this? I am sure all the Pro Obama blogs will have it on there front page and say WE ALL are excited based on one black soldiers words to keep his sheeple thinking everyone is “exited”.

This is what we will have four years of.

    • SJ

I agree I thought the fawing would of slowed down this morning and we now get back to serious business, but FOX was at it, dripping all over the Obama win, not one word about the markets overseas as they normally did during the election.

I see there is a little news coming out of Russia this morning not one word of that either, we are still in the Obama mode, oh well I really feel its going to be months of this until some nut decides to take another crack at the USA and then that would
      wake all of them up

    • mimi

      soldier,

I thought the same thing. I lifted my msm boycott just to keep up with the bullshit.

These fuckers just had the nerve to do a story about how did an unknown black man become POTUS so quickly?

Hello? You, the media, helped him. No vetting, no investigating any stories, NOTHING!

      The msm decide our president.

      Thank you!

  • Annie

Time… Barry Obama will not be President until January – a lot can happen before then. The armed services must have their votes counted – it is a disgrace they have not, through no fault of theirs. Acorn has to be stopped and funding discontinued. I am sure there as been massive fraud in the voting booths through Acorn.

The Media have a sin to answer for.

Meantime I wish John McCain and Sarah Palin well and good days ahead.

    • mimi

Sorry to disabuse any of you who think scandal will overtake history… it will not!

Like it or not, patience is required at this time.

  • Alice Paul WPB

I posted this before and actually someone else posted it on NQ before.

I’m not a tin foil hat wearer but doesn’t anyone else think that this is weird about Nostradamus and this prediction:

    Century 2, Quatrain 62
Mabus will soon die, then will come,
A horrible undoing of people and animals,
At once one will see vengeance,
One hundred powers, thirst, famine, when the comet will pass.

There is a Ray Mabus: a former Mississippi governor who is now a senior adviser to Democrat Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Not a common name.

According to the Minor Planet Center the next comet to approach the Earth within 0.2 AU (pretty close, in other words; that’s 1/5 the average distance between the centers of the Earth and the Sun) will be Comet 103P/Hartley. It will make its closest approach to Earth on October 20, 2010 at a predicted distance of 0.1207 AU.

Just who I think Obama might pick:

Sec. of Defense: Colin Powell (comes with his own doctored weapons lab pictures and fake anthrax for any future conflicts)
Sec. of Education: William Ayers/Assistant: Bernadine Dohrn (special concentration in Chemistry)
Sec. of Interior (Design): Deval Patrick (will do wonders with drapes and upholstery)
Dir. of Faith Based Initiatives: Rev. Jeremiah Wright/Assistant Father Michal Pfleger
    Director of H.U.D: Tony Rezko
Ambassador to Israel: Khalid Rashidi (former? PLO activist)
Liaison to Jewish Community (USA): Louis Farrakhan
American Pride Representative: Michelle Obama (now that we’ve voted for her husband, she can always be proud of her country

But hey, I’m not bitter or anything. Good thing I don’t own guns and I’m not religious.

    • Alice Paul WPB

Good one may I pass it on?

        Please do pass it on

Yay! It’s truly heartening to hear that No Quarter will be keeping up the excellence. And I say that as a hardcore, ultra-right-wing Reaganite. You folks are living proof that we don’t have to agree on everything to get along. You’re TRULY post-partisan.

I have a son who’s five months old. I hope that, years from now when he’s old enough to read, I hear him say, “Hey, Dad, have you seen the latest from No Quarter?”

    Rock. ON.

    • TeakWoodKite

      what a neat comment.

  • SLW

I am more than pleased to hear that NQ will prevail; to continue on we must have faith and strength and I have no doubt in the back of my mind that things happen for a reason. Thank you NQ for the voices of reason and question ability.

  • Karma

Clearly Obama has his built in excuse.

The Republicans did it….they broke it….it isn’t my fault.

As Fannie and Freddie prove, the press won’t work these stories properly. So, at least NQ will be on the case.

I am not interested in being lied to by Obama and the Dems any more than when Bush and Co did it.

But I do appreciate a place to find out the truth.

Thank you for all of your effort here at NQ. For the Obots who think that there is no longer a purpose for NQ. You’ll see.

A selected President wasn’t good under the Republicans and it won’t go well under the Democrats either.

i wonder if my parents still have those Kerosene heaters we use to have. YOu know for when obama bankrupts the coal industry to change our behavior.

  • SJ

Nope got up this morning and said to myself nah I don’t want one thing to happen to Obama, no bc issues, no Rezko matter let him rule, I will look forward to that and I will sit back and wait for the entire shit to start to fall apart.

    • http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com Florida Ex-Dem

A comment I heard this morning:

First thing Obama should do is go across the street to the Treasury Department and count the money. Then we’ll see what he thinks he can do.

Of course, we all know he supports ACORN, Fanny/Freddie and bailouts so maybe counting the money won’t register with him as to the idea of paying for things as we go.

  • suz

I was very happy to read that no quarter will still be around. I have sincerely enjoyed reading the many comments on it. I must say I am very afraid with Obama in office. I am from PA and I still can’t figure out how he took PA. My husband and I took short vacation through north central PA and most of people we talk to were also afraid of Obama—there appeared to be quite a bit of support for McCain. We live in NW PA and it appeared small towns around us were for McCain, also farmers appeared to be for McCain. I wish I could say it will be okay but my heart is telling me something different.

(I must be losing my mind – tried to post this and it said I did but can’t find it.)

    Thank you, Larry Johnson.

  • DeniseL

First thing he’s going to do when he gets into office is say that things are worse than he thought. Then, he’s going to raise taxes on many more people than just those making over 250,000 a year. I would be willing to bet he’s going to go down to people making 50k a year. Then, he’s going to say that there’s no money for health care right now. After that, he’s going to have to reneg on his promises for college money.

So, we are going to be able to say I told you so, shortly after he takes office.

    • Mary

I think you’re right. Bill Clinton had to do the same thing.

And universal healthcare? Not gonna happen.

John Kerry already said publicly that UC was “dead on arrival” in the Senate. Blue Dogs won’t allow it to pass, given our near-bankruptcy and all the bank failures.

Obama KNEW that about universal healthcare.

But he said otherwise to get elected.

  • Typewriterstreaming

Well, I know we’re not, but I do hope we’re wrong about Obama. And that is the best thing I can think of saying today. Says a lot about an Obama presidency.

There will be plenty to talk about as we move forward. Even Howard Fineman said this new administration will be the “Windy City on the Potomoc”!

    • VMorris

Yes, I expect the “Hot Air” BS Express to continue. Obama’s tax plan: If you have a job, write a check for you annual gross salary and send it in.

    Where is the Birth certificate?

I mean, for real, does he now, because he was able to sneak through, not have to prove his eligibility?

  • VMorris

To Larry and the rest of the No Quarter contributors: Thanks for providing a home for those of us who didn’t drink the Kool Aid. Keep up the great work.

The people have spoken and now have to deal with the President they wished for.

So now what? Obama needs to shut up, stop the words and actually do something for once in his life versus running for the next highest office, which by my estimation is God.

  • Mira

Excuse my ignorance on this, but if something untoward should happen to Obama before he is sworn in as POTUS, would that mean Biden will be sworn in instead?

    • BJ

interesting question.. I believe it would be biden.

i read up awhile back on the rules of who can be a vice president.. whether x pres’s can turn around and be a VP– it was very detailed and interesting.. basically it came down to the 8 yr max for a pres.. and it affects the vp, etc etc..

but that’s an interesting question– i’m assuming once elected it’s official and the vp would be the official 2nd guy in command

  • Mercedes

First of all, I don’t think etiquette requires one to congratulate a thug on his successful thuggery. I will never forget how Obama “won” this election. Good-by democracy.

Secondly, after perusing a number of blogs, it is clear that there are a few who will not let Obama’s mysterious past rest in peace. We still want to know where he was born and fill in all of the missing little items in his blacked-out resume. The courts should require him to demonstrate his constitutional eligibility for the office. Good-by justice.

And Mr. Obama, Mr Liberal, Mr Savior of Mankind, do not reinstitute the draft. Do not create a “National Security Force. Hello fascism.

Also, Bill Clinton said he would tell us the what really went on in the primaries after the election. We are waiting and please, Mr Clinton, in your own words, “commit candor”. That is the only way we can HOPE to regain our integrity as a country.

And Hillary, Bill, Lady deRothschild, and anybody else with clout and lots of money, we need a third political party in this country. The two-party system stinks. We need real CHANGE.

    • http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com Florida Ex-Dem

Bravo, Mercedes. I’m with you on this.

I was just thinking about how now I can consider myself a true independent. As an independent, I will criticize anyone and everyone in public service who does not do their job and does not do the best thing for the country. No more giving any of them a ‘pass’ because of their party affiliation. This has gone on too long and I was as guilty as any of allowing this to happen.

It wasn’t until my vote was taken away by the Chicago thugs that I realized that the DNC had used me just like the RNC has used the people all these years.

    • tzada

It seems to me that we could have a lawsuit against the DNC for the fruad that was done in the primaries. the fraud that they allowed to happen. If we can throw out the primary results then his man cannot be president. Period. We don’t have to have Hillary Clinton’s blessing on this. It was fraud plain and simple in the primaries which lead to fraud in the general. All this is provable.

  • tzada

It is my opinion that the first thing that needs to be done is paybacks. MSM and Hollywood and some of the music industry, for their treachery. It is my choice to boycott their news and movies, CD’s etc. Of course with the economy destroyed Hollywood and the music industry will be as well. I hope the demise of both all tree of these industries is swift. Hollywood and music types may have the money to still enjoy their lives, but they will miss the adulation from the masses. heh

  • TeakWoodKite

The things we should talk about?

    as it relates to “Dimplomacy”

The coming war with Iran, The operations in Pakistan,Syria re-occupying Lebanon.

    Israel’s fight for survival.

    The infiltration of socialism.

The failures of the media to report rather than sy-ops.

How to expose the lie that is BO.

LJ. As you responded to a bot, I wish BO good luck, but I have no respect for him or confidence that he understands the destruction worught by his hand. (and mouth). The POTUS elect has no moral compass.

How to restore the United States Constitution.

    • POed Lib

Whine, whine, whine. No moral compass? WHat a laugh.

I know only two things – Barack Obama will be the 44th president of the US, and you whiners will whine more.

      • TeakWoodKite

POed Lib, YES BO is an immoral human with no moral compass, who’s indifference is as big as his ego and his desructive personality.

This not “whine”. It is a fact; as demonstrated by BO’s own actions. So GWB was the 43rd President. IF BO is sworn in as POTUS, it will not me that will whine. I have zero respect for him as human being.

I don’t have the time or energy for whining.

As for you knowing only “two things”, why state the obvious? Good luck with your closet.

  • POed Lib

Wow. PUMAs are the REAL LOSERS tonight. All that stuff you warned us Dems about – none true.

I will say one thing – Hillary will NEVER become President. She might get appointed to the SC. But she shot her bolt, and now she’s done for POTUS

  • Phillip

***No sense in arguing with you guys.

It will be nice to have someone with half a brain and open to listen to other and different points of view in charge.

Out with the old guard and in with the new.

    • Elizabeth

If what you are trying to say is that policy statements without trustworthiness, courage of character, experience or a solid moral system to back them up is equivalent to “I can break any law, circumvent any ethic…that’s a distracting smear, let’s talk about tax cuts” and “the end justifies the means” — sorry — I’m a firm believer in the old adage “actions, not words.”

Ever shifting positions with no realistic strategy for accomplishment or follow through simply won’t cut it. I’m even less convinced by statements of “straight down the middle” with no attempt at a backup citation.

  • Soldier of Christ

Look, the people that are on this blog showing hate has to stop. Obama won and let us ignor the trolls. They are here because this blog will continue investigating him and they want to spread hate so we can fight against each other and not continue the blog. President Obama is our new president, and even though I didn’t vote for him, we must show respect and ignor his hateful minions that probably are being paid by James Carville and the other surrogates so we can shut down our voices. I am sure Fox is not going to stop, so why shouldn’t we continue? As something a good faithful Truthful warrior of G-d said to us recently, Rev Manning: “The evil that has come upon us tonight has been en route for more than a generation. However, I am confident that it is only an advance by the prince of darkness and it shall not stand. Please join me tomorrow for the Temple Hour of Prayer and I will lay out God’s plan to exalt His Word and plans for our nation. Please remain strong and we will prevail.”

The blame goes to Hillary Clinton. Hopefully, the Governor of Alaska goes oversea, gets more experience, understands the economy more. Become learned. For in 4 years, I hope we do break the glass ceiling with this woman. I wonder if by then all of Obama’s ideas and ties are brought up front and we then can elect the first woman President. I hope that the First woman President and the first India man from Louisanna get together and bring back “the real value change” in America, let us hope and see. In the meantime, the Airwaves will sooner and later don’t have much to talk about and will finally have to report on Rev wright’s new book, or Larry Sinclair, or other topics that they failed to mention to the american people, that is ,the other half.

Soldier, I pray that you are right.
I think the Palin/Jindal ticket will generate a lot of buzz in 2012.
By then they will be the “change” candidate and luster will have worn off of Hussein.

I am so glad the site will continue as we democrats and former democrats hold Hussein accountable for all of his false promises for the next four years.

Thank you for electing to carry on this struggle by holding Obama accountable for all of the many promises he has made to the American people to be elected. It will not be an easy task as he gave so many different versions of each and every promise but I think it’s good that at least they can’t just drift away as the liberal media would love to see them. I strongly believe that Obama will be the most hated man in America one day as he will fail to keep the overwhelming majority of them while dragging our nation down. It’s a sad day for America this day.

Keep up the good work! 2012 is just four short years away!

  • Sally

We must start organizing and rallying behind a well constructed/managed BOYCOTTING and PETITION site.

This, I am sure, would work VERY WELL…against the media, hollywood, and certain information technology corps…as well as other corporations, as needed.

ANY THOUGHTS MR. JOHNSON AND OTHERS? Perhaps here would be a great place to do it? I would even pay a monthly fee for it.

PS: I just cancelled my 15 year subscription to the only real newspaper America had left…the WALL STREET JOURNAL…I am very sad but its content was becoming dumber and its articles started being infiltrated with nothing but useless opinion (as opposed to referenced fact). I have been reading it daily for so long…I’ll guess this forces me to focus on new things now. My husband too. Sad day!

I know…we’ll focus on the VETS! Yeh…they need our help now more than ever-especially since they have NO REPRESENTATION AT ALL!

Whatever Obama and the Dem Congress does will determine what will happen in 2010 when House seats are up again.

I’ve heard the Obama advisers have taken a hard look at the first two years of the Clinton administration in order to avoid a “Contract With America” happening as it did in 1994 with Gingrich.

I do believe Obama will move to the center, but he should be very careful as he does this. He’s got Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, etc. all breathing down his neck. Wasn’t it Jackson who said he wanted to twist Obama’s you-know-whats?

I really think the Republicans are going to gain back seats in 2010. That’s how the cycle works now. The Dems will no longer dominate as they did in past decades. That is over.

I am still a registered Democrat, but I cannot believe this transformation has taken place.

Pelosi, Reid, Frank and the whole lot of them better enjoy the majority while they can. It won’t last.

Staying inline with following up his promises and behavior as president is a good direction for this site.

Personally I’m at a loss, pissed as hell, angry beyond spitting at everyone, not impressed or liking my country and fellow countrymen at all much lately-

CNN-24/7 “race” “race” “race”.. did “race” play a factor…. this is “history” that a “african american” was elected blah blah blah

    BARF

Why is he referred to as African anything when his mother was as white as notebook paper? Why do we hear 20x a day about the new black president? what makes him more black than white? I’m sick to death of the lies, the spin, the bullshit.

He is no more black than white, he is no more (their new term demand as of late) “African American” than he is simply an american mixed raced, raised by middle class white grandparents in a comfortable setting in hawaii, pompous ass.

    That’s all I see.

Has anyone not noticed his words last night how he already is apologizing and setting up for an 8 yr term? I Hate this prick and did not watch his speech at all.. his voice makes me ill.. but the media plays bits and pieces of it constantly.. I HEARD him comment on how we shouldn’t expect too much too soon and infact in may be in the “2nd term” that things actually get done… AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HEARD THIS!!! ???

His moron bots are so delusional they skipped over his words, he told us outright not to expect too much, too soon, and it may take a 2nd term for him to get anything done. f’king bullshit

I am so infuriated with the disrespect that was given Hillary by the media and the obama camp, and aside from a few websites it’s totally ignored and accepted by the media and mainstream voters-

Race race, black black blah blah blah.. but no one has a problem with someone saying Hillary should be taken into a backroom and only the other guy comes out..

You know….. YOU ALL KNOW that that dress B-Michelle wore last night was an ugly nightmare and you know that if it were anyone else the media would have been all over the topic nonstop… I heard not one word.. NOT ONE WORD mentioned about her outfit in the media.. and yet we heard about Hillary’s pantsuits.. her “cankles” and Sarah Palin’s 150G wardrobe that was sent to her…

f’king amazing the god damned bias in favor of this family that’s been shown.

I watched CNN that day long ago and saw the tape, I saw the expression on Michelle’s face when she answered someone’s question if she’d vote for Hillary if Hill were the nominee. I will never forget that bitch’s face, I will never forget what she said. F’CK HER

It took a bunch of looney morons to put Bush in the white house for 8 yrs because he was their messiah and it destroyed the country like nothing i’ve ever seen before- I expect nothing other than the same catastrophe with this power hungry prick full of empty rhetoric and bullshit sold to the masses.

I’m a news junkie but this whole election makes me sick to the core of my bones.. I can’t even turn on the news to get any real “news” without hearing about the new BLACK PRESIDENT and how wonderful it is the people, his people came out to vote for him.

We’ve heard endlessly how the “Bradly effect” could have com einto play.. bad bad american racism!! BUT NOT ONE GOD DAMNED WORD ABOUT THE RACISM THAT GOT HIM ELECTED.. blacks voting for the black guy because he’s perceived as being black.. what kind of double standard bullshit is this?

I can only try to avoid the news and websites at all costs for awhile.. go without any real news since all they can cover is the new messiah who walks on water… and I’ll just have to wait patiently and watch when his bots are infuritated and disillusioned with the bullshit he sold them.. it will be funny as hell.

Remember how mad they were a few months ago when they were shocked how he voted on the illegal wire taps? Many highly prop bambi sites were stunned and angered that his vote was in line status quo behavior.

Well they ain’t seen nothing yet. He got what he wanted.. his semi black ass in the White House with his white-hating wife by his side.

Good luck with that folks.. I’ll be laughing my ass off when he invites Malcolm X’s clan to dinner.

    • Chicago Joe

Re: the dress. Yes, I saw/heard some dissing of that ugly rag on TV and on various sites today. Just a harbinger of her tin ear, and a sign of things to come. It was butt ugly and amazing that she wore that Rodriguez number. Maybe high fashion but inappropriate for the venue.

I couldn’t bear to watch any of it either, but I heard about the “black widow” dress so I looked it up.

I just LOVE the whining. It means 1) that Obama won and 2) that you whining PUMORONS hate it.

It is just so so so choice. So wonderful to see and hear the whining. It’s gonna be four years of watching Obama, and you folks are gonna whine for the entire time.

    I love it.

you have no clue what a real “lib” is or the the value of the constitution or bill of rights-

you’re just another ignorant kiddy who settles for corruption if it gets you what you want in life..

Like I said before: inane, half-literate drive-bys. I’m making popcorn and getting ready to watch a really great show–Jackass 3: Barky Exposed.
