Take This, You WaPo Weasels! * Open Thread

Earlier today, you read RobWarrior’s excellent essay, “Washington Post: On second thought, maybe we were a little too Pro-Obama.”

Now read this e-mail from our faithful reader, MM, also addressed to the article written in today’s WaPo by Deborah Howell:

TO: ombudsman@washpost.com

SUBJECT: Sounds as though an after-the-fact admission …

… of rose tinted coverage might have earned the rep of ‘poison pen’ rather than good journalism.

I for one did some serious looking into both nominees. I was so frustrated by the ‘non coverage’ of Barack Obama from day one that it leaves me with fright in my soul. I was especially taken with the Princeton University historian study on ‘racism’ and Axelrod, Plouffe and the Obama campaign. The university scoured all the press, comments by pundits and actual quotes from the candidates and their surrogates which led them to surmise Barack Obama started the racism scourge.

I was also interested in the reasons Barack Obama chose not to help the Jenna 6 kids as requested by Jesse Jackson, Sr. I found my answer and thought it was in complete conflict with the entire message from Barack Obamas campaign. In my view his reason for not lending his voice to those kids and their plight was disgraceful. I fully understand the rift between JJ, Sr. and BO. I am with JJ on this one. (continued below)

An issue you don’t even describe as noteworthy is the campaign contributions story. Lobbyists were giving to BO at an exorbitant rate throughout the entire campaign from HRC in the primaries to the last end the general with John McCain. The BO campaign constantly told otherwise. Why? I believe to portray a Robin Hood image rather than acknowledge the reality of ‘just another politician’. This complete disregard for the facts was a major tool in swaying young voters to turn against the establishment to join what they believed from the spin to be change. This spin was very dangerous and leads me to conclude that this repetition of distortion, Acorn and the millions of undocumented non accountable dollars that the campaign now calls ‘within the legal set of guidelines’ for campaign contributions leaves a whole other realm of journalistic investigation to commence. Where are those records?

Lastly, the strange disappearance of 8 years of Illinois State Legislative records from BO. is another issue and the most haunting as he himself has addressed this issue with 4 separate statements of which none answer the question. I say how did he file his taxes with out those records? I say how could he ‘organize’ and meet with many people from the Chicago Hospital Board, Valerie Jarret, Bernadette Dorn who was introduced to him by his wife Michelle and lastly Antoine Rezko and the coterie of associates including Auchi, Ayers, etc if he didn’t know where and when? The IRS reqires record keeping for 7 years..where are those records?

I would agree with the premise of your article but do not detect any willingness to pursue these matters in the future.

B is for boycott– as in boycott the big media.

    • ame

Can you name one boycott that actually worked? I say attack the media through blogs talk radio…write letters to the media like this one. Call the media out every chance you get.

      • AnninCA

I agree, Ame…boycotts don’t work. Avoiding the product helps, but calling them out is better.

        • mimi

          I don’t agree.

Readership/viewership is WAY DOWN! They are hurting. If you are of a mind not to stop buying newspapers or watching the news, fine.

But those of us who are, I say, Right On!

You have to show at least some muscle.

You guys seem to forget that one of the benchmarks of the Civil Rights Movement in the 50s was the Montgomery Bus Boycott. They brought the company to its knees.

Don’t ever say boycotts don’t work. They do.

It’s just that many are addicted to news and it’s hard to kick the habit. But with the Internet there are ways to get the news. There’s also the public library.

I refuse to go to the HUFFPO. I haven’t been there since Super Tuesday, not even to follow a link.

          • Ani

WaPo revenue is down 86% in the third quarter of this year — I wonder why??

They are hurting — you are right.

          • JozefAL

Actually, with the Montgomery Bus Boycott, it wound up in court with a Federal district court declaring the bus segregation issue unconstitutional, with the Supreme Court upholding that decision.
Incidentally, it should be noted that the whole incident began with an incident that COULD have been avoided. Buses in Montgomery were segregated but in an unusual form–a certain number of rows of seats were allocated to whites with the remainder allocated to blacks (these were in the back half of the bus, but the actual dividing line varied from day to day). Under the law, if the white section were filled up and a white passenger boarded, then the next row back had to be emptied out (no matter if the row was filled with black passengers or if there was only one black passenger). The fateful day came when Rosa Parks, who’d been working all day, refused to move when a young white passenger boarded the bus. The white section was full, so Mrs Parks and the other blacks in the row were asked to move. The other three blacks moved as required, but not Mrs Parks. (There was no law preventing passengers from standing; blacks were often forced to stand when the white section overflowed.) The white passenger COULD have offered to stand (there was nothing that prevented that option).
Following Mrs Parks’ arrest, the first plan devised by the black leaders in Montgomery was to have explicit divisions on the buses, which would have required whites, as well as blacks, to stand if their respective sections were full. THAT was the original purpose of the boycott–not to fully integrate the buses. Had the courts not intervened, the boycott could have gone on much longer than it did.

          • ame

ALL NEWSPAPERS ARE DOWN. It has nothing to do with boycotts. it has everything to do with the internet and other sources of media. That being said, I don’t personally by ANY newspaper.

Also, I use to work for a paper, it’s a dying business.

      • kbdabear

One silver lining of a recession is that boycotts can’t be laughed off by big business any more.

The ship of the MSM is taking on water at an accelerating rate, and the captains look from the bridge and see water sloshing into the well deck.

I’ve unsubscribed to my online copies of the ChiTrib, NYT, WaPo and LAT.

    Man, that felt good :)

I didn’t watch Sunday programming today. I won’t watch all week. I’m done with the Obama Propaganda shows. ALL OF THEM.

Time to walk the dog and sing zippity doo da! I didn’t vote for him and I’m not going to support him. So why on earth would I want to ruin my days ahead watching all the crap talk from the bullying media hacks. They can all fuck off. I’m not buying any pharmacuticals either.

      • mimi

        Danny,

I quit the Sunday talk shows 3 weeks ago. They were the last to go.

Look, I think it’s fair to admit, that we’re going to have to watch some news. But I have reduced my cable viewership to 85%. I follow ‘breaking news’ and watch only a few cycles. I no longer watch Anderson Cooper, Larry King or Wolfe Blitzter. MSNBC virtually does not exist. I’m a lot tighter with newspapers having cancelled subscriptions. I won’t buy a newspaper unless it’s an absolute emergency.

As far as online is concerned, HuffPo is a definite no-no. I’ll go to the NYTimes or others if someone mentions a link. And I use the library to catch up.

If you can’t go cold turkey on newspapers, at least cut down. Or if you have friends who are like-minded share.

We must make a dent in their revenue.

        • Brendy

There’s ALWAYS used and read newspapers lying around no matter where you go. Just pick one up if you have the desire – and your local libraries have the daily papers.

  • Zeke

Could this be the start of the trance wearing off? Post hypnotic suggestion does not last without continued reaffirmation. Now that Obama, (A quick addendum: Anyone who has been exposed long term to Obama or his cadre’ always calls him ‘BarackObama,’ never just a last name or a first… always the two words together) has won the election and the reporters have gone home, they are not on the plane, or at party headquarters. The bloom was never really on the rose and now that the MSM isn’t constantly exposed, they are slowly coming to.
I think that if this theory has any legs, the proof in the pudding will be that Obama will get in front of a teleprompter, say a few of the trigger words and put them back under the minute that the MSM puts any pressure on him.

    • lark

      Excellent. Good read.

Lets hear what ‘president elect’ says, by first prefacing that there is only one president in this country. Lets hear those I want I want I want to Congress.

20 died in a Russian submarine of suffocation and 80 died in Haiti when a building collapse just like that.

Obama is an accident waiting to happen.

      Zeke-
Every time I hear them refer to Barky as BarackObama I think of Chaka Khan & her song that had the “Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan” refrain in it. Unfortunately, I think Chaka has way more substance than “dear leader”… I want this nightmare to be over!

    • oowawa

A full-fledged Obama holiday? Great idea! I suggest we call it Obamamas or Barackmas, and a good date would be, I dunno, say December 25.

      • WasLNbutNoBamaBotsKeepStealingMyName

Yes, Dec 25th sound like a good idea, as he already thinks he is the Messiah…as does Louis Farrakhan.

        If it weren’t for D-day I’d recommend 6/6 for Hussein’s Holiday.

    • Typewriterstreaming

I want a National Holiday for whatever day he leaves office permanently. To me, he is worse than George W. Bush. I had a countdown to the end of Bush’s term clock – I’ve turned it off.

    I can dream can’t I . . . .?

IF . . . if Obama’s claim to US citizenship is fraud and if he is disqualified from the presidency before January, then we may very well see a Biden presidency. Would HRC be his VP?

    • FenelonSpoke

There is no way that even if Obama’s citizenship is a fraud that he is disqualified from being President. Obama could murder someone someone in front of a televized audience and his Obots and the MSM would say, “Well, I’m sure he had good reasons” and “Wasn’t that televised murder a historic achievment!”

      • oowawa

LOL! The image comes to mind of the scene in The Manchurian Candidate where the brain-washed soldier shoots the other soldier in the head, while his chums sit around watching calmly.

      • ame

That’s funny, I use to say something similiar about Bushie during his first term.

Obama and Bush have a lot in common. They both like big government, they both are control freaks when it comes to the media and they both promote illegal immigration.

    • Dee

Sorry to disappoint, but I believe Pelosi is in line for that job, isn’t she?

      • Ani

No — If the VP assumes the Presidency, they then nominate a VP and go through a hearing process, I believe.

        • Ai1een

Actually, the line of succession is a bit different depending on when it occurs (I believe). If I am not mistaken, if it happens before Inauguration Day, the VP would be in line for the Presidency. If Biden would be found unfit for command (imagine that?…wacko!)I believe the House of Representatives would choose who should be President. (Now Larry J’s probably going to chastise me for being wrong – LOL, but I welcome the correction if needed.)

I do think it is like a house of cards though….a wiggle here, a wobble there, suddenly one card will flutter down and the entire Obama Myth will collapse and the floodgates of truth will swing open….it will be as though gallons of anti-koolaid entered the water systems and people will rub their eyes and look around and he will be undone.
That is what I think, because he simply cannot deliver.
I knew several people who voted for him because of health-care and they are VERY upset with NancyBotox saying that it’s off the table. She didn’t say it was off the table til January…she said “off the table”.

I hate to be cynical in reference to “cards falling”…But I’m still waiting for them to fall on the Bush administration. If they didn’t fall on Bushie, they certainly won’t fall on “history in the making” AKA Obama.

      • Elizabeth

The history, though, has already been delivered. Obama is now a sitting duck with a murky, unconventional past and at times bizarre mental state who, to say the least, is promising stuff he know can’t be delivered on without a miracle.

BO and Oprah will be perfect together; whenever he needs air time he can call on her. No doubt she is drooling to comply. However, TV has lost me; maybe they did not lose much as I have merely the basic service. Nonetheless, my viewing time of all broadcast news shows is down from 3 – 4 hours daily to 15 minutes. Yeah. One quarter of an hour. But get this, I have not watched Oprah in a decade … or more. And that decision remains for eternity.

    • workingclass artist

When Oprah moves over to her new channel…she will sink faster than the titanic…lol…

    • C.S.

I haven’t watched Oprah ever. She’s too narcissistic. She only babbles about herself, her weight, the celebrities she knows, and plasters her face on every magazine she produces. If I hadn’t already investigated Soertoro/Obama’s background and rejected him, her endorsement would have been enough to convince me not to vote for him. The woman is a cipher, and so is the guy she endorsed.

  • EightBelles

And now, thanks to the WaPo and other sources of misinformation like them who were in the tank for Barack Obama, we now have a President-elect with more holes in his resume than truths to his credit. I, for one, just don’t get it. What did we as Americans have to do to divert the attention of the MSM away from worshipping Barack Obama so they might scruitinize him with the same intensity other candidates were vetted by the same MSM? Mr. Obama did not receive a fraction of the investigative reporting Gov Sarah Palin was ruthlessly subjected to and yet she, unlike Sen Obama, was not running for the highest office in the land.

Does anyone at NQ think there might be a few honest Democrats (or Republicans for that matter) who would consider coming on board with us to unearth and expose all the facts about this man and his campaign before it’s too late? Americans are entitled to know the truth about the sham roll call, fraudulent caucuses and ACORN’s gaming of the election. Only thus far, the majority of voters remain blissfully igonorant when it comes to this blank slate of a man by the name of Barack Obama who would be president of the United States.

Someone once wrote he thought only about one third of the whole Congress acted, and thought, independently, I would most likely think that assessment is close to the truth.

I thought once it functioned like an American politburo, the US Congress turned upside down, (but so inept, I bet even the Russians would reject them as stupid (sic)).

Certainly there are those in the military and the government who still hold the Constitution dear, who still understand its necessity to the survival of the US government, those who understand the theory behind government.

So, they have to be concerned.

This may be a really ignorant question…why was there absolutely no coverage of the trip to Hawaii to visit grandma. Wouldn’t that have made the public swoon for their beloved BO even more? No camera crews at the airport, no photos of him at the hospital? Did he really visit grandma? Has she been dead for ten years? Do we know he went to Hawaii? How a do- nothing, know-nothing, stand-for-nothing sack of empty air could suddenly end up in textbooks, coins and other detritis of memorabilia before he even DOES ANYTHING memorable save stealing an election with voter fraud is truly amazing. • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com/ truthisgold

One can only hope that his plethora of transgressions will help him self destruct long before impeachment can ever take place. First and foremost, his absence of response with regard to his citizenship would indicate strongly that he is NOT EVEN ELIGIBLE TO BE POTUS, as he is clearly NOT a NATURAL BORN AMERICAN CITIZEN. At this point, it is highly doubtful that he is even a naturalIZED citizen, which, like Schwartzenegger, renders him unqualified to take office in the first place.

Perhaps your point is true, and the wise ones are trying to warn us that “He’s Satan! He’s Satan!”

Why don’t you just ask your messiah Where’s the birth certificate? And then we can get on with reclaiming Our Democracy.

  • Galt’s Pizza Parlor

The “you people” broad brush again? Sure there are some of “those” here but certainly not even close to a majority here fit your description.

  • LindaA1

Oh poor Jessica Yellin, pouting outside some Obama bunker because it’s become off-limits to the press. Everything is now off-limits to the press now, CNN.

    “It’s like a lock-box,” she complains.

And you thought kissing O’s butt was going to get you somewhere? When will people learn that O throws EVERYBODY under the bus? It’s part of the god complex. There shalt be no one on stage but me.

The press completely destroyed all illusions of objectivity this year. Clearly, they used the power of the press to manipulate the news.

In my opinion, this remains a much bigger and more serious loss to America than Obama, his agenda, or anything Congress could cook up.

That was a very important cornerstone to Democracy that is now lost.

The only good to come of it was that the news did eventually get out, but readers had to work for it.

Has anyone read the SF Chronicle this morning?

On page ‘U2′ there is an across the page /fold carrot top rendering of BO .

It is a bold peice of propaganda, with a recap of all the best greatest hits of BO lines…
    including hits like…

    Jan 8, 2008;
“You can be the new majority who can lead this nation out of a long political darkness-”…( Oh the plight of the arc of covenant!!! from out of the desert they came…)

The kicker is the ridicules 8 by 11 landscaped pic of BO standing in the rain, Headline center page “The Audasity of Hope!”. in 48 point font
(More plagerizing to come no doubt)

On a another page an article by Caralyn Lochhead-DC bureau,

Talking about “Fresh Faces and Old Hands” (ewww) in a BO administraton. Some other names the author floats,

Google CEO and transition team member Eric Schmidt as “technology czar”.
Steve Westly for Energy Secratary as a payoff to Silicon Valley ala “altenative energy”.
Laura D’Andrea Tyson(Hass Business Scools Dean) and Robert Rich.
Others mentioned are SF attorneys Marissa Chun and Jeff Bliech, a BO “bundler” who has known BO from Harvard Law.
    Mary Nicholas EPA
Boalt Law School Dean Christopher Edley Jr. SCOTUS or DOJ.
Kamala Harris is mentioned, but this person has a real ACORN personality to her and has not enforced the laws, letting Cop killers walk.
Along with the usual GOP suspects.
Interestingly, the article states that BO has a “120,000 sq ft Presitential Transition Headquarters” the size of two Costcos. (Not as big as the one in Gaza but it’s a start.)
If BO has not been vetted and many of the people avoided this , can BO’s admin be infiltrated?

I quote this one paragraph as it sums it up for what is to come. More of the same old same old.

“Insiders said the Obama transition team is looking for people who have experience running large orginizations, public or private. A big plus is a connection with the campaign or the pesident-elect, people who have bonds of trust or loyalty.”

    .

What can I say? It’s a windy day in wine country.

    • noproblama

I stopped reading the Chronicle regularly when we moved to the foothills and never would read it at all after the primary.

What did they say about Prop 8 passing (ha, I wonder how Rachel Maddow reacted)? I won’t watch the local news channels either.

  • TeakWoodKite

HA! Oh and not to leave MO out.

There she is on the Front Page of the “Style” section of the Chron…

    doing a “Black Power” wave!

(no offense intended here) Really folks…
But these IGITS in waiting are required to be all about “all the people”.

  • Lester

They can all fuck off. I’m not buying any pharmacuticals either.

I also turned on CNN this morning…said, fuck off
then i swiched to ABC… said, fuck off, then on to
CBS, said, fuck off and turned off the TV..and went for a nice sunday morning walk.

Every sunday morning for the past 10 month’s i would
get up early and start watching all of the talk show’s hoping that maybe this week the media would
would be a little fair to Mccain…never happened,
    so fukkk them all…forevvvvvveeeeer

  • noproblama

I tell ya folks, this is when the fun starts.

No opposing candidates to take the heat off Saint Obama, a nervous MSM slowly coming to realize their complicity will sooner or later only bite them in the ass, and a bunch of people second guessing their decision to vote for the guy with whom they’d rather eat arugula after making the mistake of voting for the guy with whom they’d rather have a beer.

I’ve talked to some already. They’ll give him a honeymoon and then they’ll give him the bird.

Keep the pressure on, and barring a administration saving national emergency like 911 (was Biden hoping?), maybe we can limit the damage to one term

  • Graywolf

    Where will you all go?
    Hillary is irrelevant.
The hated Bush is almost irrelevant (good).

All the diplomats and CIA people
got their wish: a far-left administration whose domestic policy is “spread the wealth” and foreign policy is “bend over”.

    • Strawberrybitch

What are you babblng about…? This is a CIA website and he was a Hillary supporter. Damn.

AP’s version of the election coverage is screwed up!

    There’s this…

Matthews said he wanted to “do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work.”

Wait a minute. A declaration of political peace? On one of the three cable news networks that has thrived on political combat during the presidential election campaign?

In reference to Matthews’ delcaration of pro-Obama bias, Phil Griffin of MSNBC said this….

Griffin said he was satisfied with Matthews’ explanation that, like any American, he hoped for the best for the country

For those of you who said “boycott”….OK I agree! BOYCOTT! :-<

    • noproblama

Matthews said in an interview that he wants to see Obama succeed.
“Every journalist in history has recognized the appropriateness of a honeymoon,” he said. “That comes with the territory. New presidents get honeymoons. That’s as old as the republic. We recognize it and respect it … That’s a fact and there’s nothing unjournalistic about that.”

Yeah, for Matthews the honeymoon started with a tingle. Up yours, tweetie.

Boycott and Beyond! We need our own media outlet, a channel dedicated to truth 24/7, regardless of party agenda.

  • ame

…there’s this for those who are interested.

Over the last three months, each of the networks saw their prime-time audiences double over the same period a year ago. The climb was steeper at MSNBC (up 158 percent to 1.5 million people a night), compared to CNN (up 124 percent to 2 million) and Fox News Channel (up 101 percent to 3.3 million), according to Nielsen Media Research.

    SO WaPo coverage was biased?

    What’s next?

  • 2001tg

So at halftime, the editors were told they are being unfair, by an in house journalist. In fact, SNL, were already making jokes about the media being overly protective toward Obama, so it was no mystery. However, 90 days before the GE, you inform your employer, THE WASHINGTON POST, the newspaper which broke WATERGATE. There is a large disparity in fair and equal reporting and we are skewing pro Obama. So what actions did TWP take? remember this is, THE WASHINGTON POST. You report, ” Post photo and news editors made a more conscious effort at balance afterward.” That huge effort of fairness by photo and news EDITORS resulted in two more black and white photos for McCain, and equal amount of front page pictures, however they continued and maintained their ardent support for Obama. As a journalist you should be ashamed. You are just an apologist, sent by the editors, to admit your arrogance, nothing more.

The Washington Post, was informed on Aug 3, and continued to work as a collective to be unfair and bias. So when THE WASHINGTON POST criticizes Wall Street CEO’s for their Ponzi schemes, and demands honest answers to tough questions of how did senior management allow such recklessness? Could it be, it was in their best financial interest? The WASHINGTON POST, is no different from Lehman’s, you sold your stakeholders, your own personal interest. You gave little concern, and refused to present and pass each candidate through an equal and fair, clear prism of due diligence. THE WASHINGTON POST, abrogated its social trust and breached the accepted guidelines for responsible and decent journalism, and now, THE WASHINGTON POST is looking for an emotional bailout. YOU DO NOT DESERVE IT, YOU HAVE NOT EARNED IT! BY YOUR OWN REPORTING, THE WASHINGTON POST CAN NOT BE TRUSTED

      EXCELLENT! Bravo!

  • http://truthisgold.blogspot.com/ truthisgold

Brava, bell artista, that is hilarious. To all, thank you for your most savvy and salient comments on this odious piece of air from who knows where. The mere fact that he offers no history, no work product, written or otherwise, no proof of American citizenship and no Illinois senate voting record proves indisputably that he is not what he claims and never was…to CLAIM to BE something, one first has to BE something…and he has never been anything but an air filled Pretender, backed by Soros-powered, nebulous creatures of ill repute. No doubt he will self destruct, hopefully sooner than later. As for the rest of the story–read Rosemary Regello’s article on http://www.cityedition.com about the historic, closeted meeting between Rove and Brazile in 2004. He played her simple soul, along with the rest of the loony left, like so many cheap violins.

Ok, folks. I was not going to go with this issue anymore, but I like where this is going. Please check it out and donate!

I do not want an Affirmative action POTUS and if he needs to be held accountable let’s start today! No more free pass and get out of jail free card, Mr. Obama. The people are speaking now! You’ve had your podium and your reverb and your words. Well, now it is we the people who will be talking because guess what? Now, Hillary is gone and John and Sarah are gone and now it’s all about judging you!

I haven’t watched Oprah ever. She’s too narcissistic. She only babbles about herself, her weight, the celebrities she knows, and plasters her face on every magazine she produces.

    I can’t believe I missed that.

The fawning MSM will probably get theirs when some tiny misstep is made against the Emperor Elect and he banishes and spurns them one by one. He’ll probably create his own press, and they’ll have to throw nothing but rhetorical rose petals before him.
