While I agree women should have access to opportunities to serve in the Cabinet and as any other government official, I don't believe our goal is to have a 50/50 men-women ratio. What if more women are more qualified? What if more men are better qualified? Shouldn't our Cabinet appointees, senior government officials be chosen based on their experience, talents, aptitude, etc? Perhaps we should consider merit rather than gender. If women truly want equality or equal opportunity, we should stop expecting special treatment and go for equal treatment. Women should compete with men for jobs in the same way whites, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, or anyone competes! Employment is supposed to be non-discriminatory by sex, gender, creed, ethnicity, etc. Why would we expect 50% women? Should we then expect a ratio reflecting the country's values and say x% of the cabinet should be Christian, x% Muslim, x% atheist, x% non-denominational, x% Catholic, x% Jewish? It's absurd, but no different from this expectation.

Northwest rain,

I agree. It's a sad state of affairs, but this is reality right now. We really do have to practise patience right now. I don't want to create a situation where is adoring devotees circle the wagons around him.

That would be the worst possible thing we could do. It would protect him.

We can't put unreasonable pressure on him or protest too vehemently right now.

We have to keep reporting what's going on and our response to it as well as making sure people remember all of the inconsistencies.

It's the only way to go.

Um, lorac, there IS a day for women. It takes place the second Sunday of May every single year. Okay, so you have to be a certain TYPE of woman to really celebrate it, but it does exist. It's called MOTHER'S DAY.
And I defy you to claim that mothers are not recognized for their contributions and most of the tributes that newspapers print for Mother's Day note many accounts of the women's heroism.

This is wise counsel -- I too am willing to sit back and wait.

There is no way he can sustain the illusion he has created.

Young women who voted for him will regret what they've done someday.

Unfortunately the young women who didn't vote Obama will suffer for the stupidity of their sisters.

Obama is NOT MKL -- Obama comes from the other wing -- and there is violence and hatred in the Black Liberation Theology BS.

If women lobby him -- this will inflate his ego when he either appoint zero women or a token women in a symbolic, do nothing slot.

When the impeachment hearings begin 2011 -- That's when I'd like to see WOMEN come together. But that won't happen even then.

America is one of most misogynistic countries on earth. That probably will never change.

 Facts are facts -- 1920 - 2020 --

From this point we will probably go backward in time. I'm basing this on the level of sex role stereotyping we see in our culture -- and the election of O-zero who encouraged and used sexist language and symbolism in his campaign.

Message is clear -- women need not apply -- because only those with "experience" (penis) are allowed.

i agree, but can there really be so few qualified women out there that 230+ years since this country's founding, we still haven't had a woman president and are nowhere near 50% of top jobs in government? i think there might be something going on other than impartial consideration of qualifications.

THe New York Times is suggesting that Obama might propose Jamie Gorelick for Attorney General..

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This woman is a curse wherever she goes. She's a menace and needs to be in jail not at the DoJ.

Back in the 90s, she cemented the wall between Law Enforcement and Intelligence and made it almost impossible for the separate Agencies to share information.

At Fannie Mae, i think she was one of the head consuls. She got MILLIONS of Dollars in bonuses because of phony bookkeeping. As far as I know she has got to keep the money and there's been investigation of her.

I hope and pray this is one woman who never works for the government again.

I'm trying to attach ole' Blue Eye song, *That's Life*, for a second time. Still, it's worth it to Google IT and just listen! Certain songs have a way of clarifying our senses and helping us to think outside the 'square box'. If we stand strong in ourself and stay focused within our hearts we project a more powerful persona. Politics is much more flexible than we imagine!

"All the world's a stage...and one man or one woman, in their time, plays many parts". This is from Shakespeare's *As you Like It* and we must remember that we are the actor, the producer, the director, the writer, the audience, etc. Nothing is ever written in stone that can't be changed. Truly, the pen is mightier than the sword! Each of are changing the reality of this election with our extraordinay selves! God Bless America...our Home Sweet Home!!

I hope ole' Blue Eyes 'YouTube' works on this 2nd try. Frank Sinatra's baritone voice is magical, for young and "not so young".

Ole' Blue Eyes, himself, Frank Sinatra sang a famous song called *That's Life*. In it he croons these fateful words, "I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a King...I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing...Each time I find myself flat on my face I pick myself up and get back in the race. Pay attention to his voice, listen to the lyrics with wisdom, and you'll feel much better...I promise!!

I AM interested in parity. There are plenty of qualified women around, but they are passed by, just as Hillary was.

Unless we push for parity, a world where the best candidate wins regardless of gender is just a saying. Women will keep being passed up, if we don't STAND up.

I'm not interested in parity in Obama's cabinet. I just want to live in a world sometime where the best candidate for president wins, even if that person is a woman.

Sorry PamFlorida, but mountainaires is right.

I'm going to wait him out too. I like the idea. I'm not groveling at this misogynist who won the female vote while basically telling women to kiss his ass.

If young women like eating this much shit, then I say to them, knock yourselves out.

I'm going wait and watch. Everything will come to a head.
