To Catch a POTUS

web-potus-toon_edited-1.jpg

It took nearly two years with an army of indomitable hunters determined to trap a POTUS* at any cost using any means, but Obama did it.

Now that the biggest, most hazardous, acutely stressful, and toughest job on the planet has been captured, what is Obama going to do with it? I get the feeling that the next steps haven’t been quite thought through.

On the one hand, as recently as in the last few days Obama declared, “We can’t afford to wait on moving forward on the key priorities that I identified during the campaign, including clean energy, healthcare, education and tax relief for middle-class families.”

Wow—these changes would be just great. Not quite sure how we will pay for any of them though because the first three seem to contradict the fourth.

On the other hand, this POTUS has been very hard to pin down. It jumps around a lot. For example, I thought we were all going to be allowed to feed it. Obama said he needs us all, that he can’t care for the POTUS without us. But Jardin at Boing Boing notes that a promise that technology would be used to involve us all in government has now been removed from Obama’s Change.gov website. That’s disappointing, especially because all the working Joes I know raised their eyebrows years ago regarding selling folks houses they could not afford. We knew this would eventually cause them (and us) considerable agony. We “little people” have also long understood the dangers of Middle East dependence on oil while our car makers merrily continued to roll out gas guzzlers. We knew these dumb decisions would come back and bite us in our collective asses. We deserve to be heard because we are apparently much smarter than our leaders and CEOs.

So, welcome to the New Zoo. Visit it often. I do hope this POTUS stays much healthier for us than the last one. I also hope it doesn’t get hidden away somewhere so we can’t see what it is up to.

I don’t think they’ve been thought through at all. If they did, they would have never started the campaign to begin with.

Maybe I should send them a pizza with sliced “clue” on top? They’ve been eating way too much hubris pizza.

Barry’s “change” is going to leave us with nothing but a few coins in our pockets by the time he is done. I give him until June 2009 before the gray hair starts to show.

How is an anti-nuclear, anti-Clean Coal, anti-Drilling President going to solve the quandry of America’s energy needs?

    Very good Cartoon, again Pat:

There was a story a very long time ago during the early primaries, that Obama didn’t expect to win, but was out there getting his name known for future political capital. Then the unthinkable happened, the internet groups began to send money Ob’s way, and the caucus strategy was in place to steal the delegates away from Hillary in the red states, then Obama is in the lead.

Now they are going to the White House and the work just begins in the Eye of the Storm. It’s also picking up steam, and we don’t know how strong it will be. For our sake, I hope that the people around Obama can change our direction both here and abroad. But a simple change of the person who sits in that hot seat will not change the deep resentment held by many foreign people that have been in war zones for many years against the US.

Watch what you wish for, you may get it.

I am listening to Sean Hannity on the radio and he just mentioned that apparently Hillary will NOT get to head up any health care initiatives. Teddy put a hammer down on that. The Clintons handed the nomination to BO on a silver platter, campaigned for him and now they are left with NOTHING. Well, they should have known better, they knew what he really thought of them when he flipped her off and allowed his surrogates, Wright, Pfleiger, to debase her. I have little sympathy for the Clintons anymore.

Lobbyists Not Allowed on Obama Transition Team
    thepage.time.com/2008/11/11/lobbyists-not-allowed-on-obama-transition-team/

That’s halperin’s headline. That’s the game he liberal media played during the primary and general election. Meanwhile obama’s lobbyist stuffed campaign vacuumed up over six hundred million dollars. Tons of it from big dollar donors contributing to the 4 different fund raising arms of his campaign.

obama front man and long time washington insider podesta:
John Podesta, Barack Obama’s transition co-chair, said today that the Democrat’s office is instituting the “strictest, most far reaching rules of any transition team in history” prohibiting individuals who have lobbied over the last year from influencing related policy.
    hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2008/11/new_obamabiden.html

Got that? If you are a federal registered lobbyist that lobbied for hamburgers you still can be part of the transition team. You’ll just have to work on the hamburgers with cheese part of the transition. Utter bullshit. halperin is doing just what chris matthews said he was gonna do: Everything they can to make sure obama is successful. Some of us mortals wonder why the “liberal media” thinks they have to lie to help obama be successful.

I don’t believe that the DNC, the other party bosses, and Obama didn’t think they had a shot at the POTUS this year. They had everything arranged including the redistricting/delegate stategy, the caucus fraud, ACORN, and pork being fed to groups planning on helping the Dems. this year. Then there is the strong possibility that Obama really was The One both parties wanted-for their own reasons. The sad part is that the Repubs will not be able to distance themselves from this disaster because BO has sold the country that Bush/Republicans ruined the economy, not Fanny, Freddie, Penny Pritzer, etc.

    Obama Still Not Helping Hillary

    Tuesday, November 11, 2008 12:20 PM

By: Jim Meyers Article Font Size

Members of the Hillary Clinton camp are “disappointed” that Barack Obama has not followed through on promises to help retire Hillary’s campaign debt — despite the support Hillary and Bill Clinton gave him during the campaign.

Hillary headlined some three dozen rallies and fundraisers after Obama was officially nominated, and Bill hosted about 20 events for Obama, according to Politico.com. The Clintons’ activities in support of Obama were remarkable, considering how little Ronald Reagan and Ted Kennedy did for their party’s nominees in ’76 and ’80.

“Yet a half-dozen Clinton insiders told Politico they are disappointed that Obama’s vaunted fundraising operation hasn’t reciprocated by planning new events or an Internet campaign to help Clinton pay off the $7.9 million she owes to vendors,” Politico reports.

Clinton has written off the $13 million she loaned her campaign, according to aides.

Obama had reportedly vowed to help Hillary raise funds this fall and urged some top backers to donate to her campaign, but Clinton remains awash in debt.

One Clinton aide told Politico about the Obama camp: “There’s just not a lot of expectation they are going to lift a finger for us.”

But a former Clinton fundraiser said: “In a few months, when he’s really struggling, he’ll come to her for support. That’s when she should ask him for money.”

Hillary needs to think about “blooming where she is planted” or “dancing with the one that brought her” or whatever other euphemism supplants for getting back to work for the people of NY.

  • New Party

Hillary Clinton fought hard and she was sucker-punched by the dirty tactics of the Obama campaign and the media/press.

If she had not done what’s traditionally required of the loser, to support the nominee, she would be tagged a whiny girl. There were those who were just waiting for it, fingers on the keyboard. She did what she thought was best for Dems. I don’t begrudge her that. There have been times, though, when I cringed at her supporting BO.

I have a feeling she and Bill will be just fine.

Maybe it’s just because it’s all over the radio, but I keep thinking that “Viva La Vida” will be an appropriate theme song for this administration in about 2010.

At this point Hillary must be in the sauce if she thinks Oblowme is going to help her do anything. He would probably deny her life support if she needed it. She’ll be lucky to keep the key to the bathroom on the Senate floor.
Can you imagine what kind of a living President portrait we are going to have? With Barky and his Burger King crown next to the Clintons. Make me sick really.

I firmly believe that Barack Hussein Obama really does not want to be the President (he doesn’t want to work that hard)–he just wanted to WIN.

Now that he’s won (cheated to win), he doesn’t quite know what to do with it.

I agree – he’s aged horribly since all of this started.

  • FenelonSpoke

I agree with you, PGraber. I don’t think Obama wants to govern. He doesn’t want the actual work. He just wants the acclaim, the prestiage and the money. He usually doesn’t work at jobs very long-they are just stepping stones to better ones. That is the true of narcisscists.

Obama probably would have been content to to be the first black candidate for President and go around the U.S, making speeches about his historic run and get paid immense amounts of money to do just that.

And unfortunately, the players behind the scenes will be content to pull the strings while Obama is the figurehead.

  • ben

Why would anyone criticize a strategy that saves on average 10% of the fuel you use? This translates into a 10% reduction in gas use. Criticizing this is borderline insane.

  • http://deleted Buzz Latte

    uzie?

  • ziggy

It’s only a quandry if we’re unable to see the obvious solutions because they don’t look enough like the past.

All of the pieces of the puzzle are on the table in front of us. We’ve only got to understand what the completed picture should look like and start putting them together.

The transition process to alternative energy should be the centerpiece of our economic stimulus and recovery program.

We’ve officially blown $570 BILLION on Iraq–the ACTUAL figure being far higher–and are continuing to spend $10-12 BILLION per month. Meanwhile, the Iraqi government is running a $79 BILLION surplus this year from oil revenues.

It’s pretty damn obvious where the money for our alternative energy program should be coming from. We should either get the hell out of Iraq to free up the money we need to invest in our own future, or expect the Iraqis to begin footing a substantial part of the cost of keeping our troops there.

  • honora

He wants to be President, but I agree that he does not want to work too hard. He won’t that’s what Rahm is there for. He can call Nancy and Reid to do the heavy lifting and Obama and Michelle can wave to the crowds from the little White House balcony.

Why would some running for president offer this as a solution to energy concerns when every car owner knows to check tire pressure already? What is going on here, is the American public ignorant about the effects of tire pressure on fuel mileage or does our president elect lack a real energy policy? Which is it?

  • WildChild

Perhaps it saves you ten percent in a worst case scenario. But since most of us don’t fit that scenario, it’s rather easy to criticize BOBO’s tire gauge strategy as a realistic mechanism for reducing America’s dependency on oil.

  • WildChild

It’s interesting you should bring up he puzzle analogy. The picture on the puzzle is one of the tools you use to complete the puzzle. But it only an effective tool if you know what the picture looks like. Neither you nor BOBO has shown us the picture on the puzzle you claim to be working to. We just get vague descriptions of what it might look like.

  • texasgal

I found these neat pressure valves to put on my tire stems that are green when the pressure is right. Guess it’s more cost effective to do it manually?

  • ben

It’s not “BoBo” (or, more formally, President elect Obama’s) strategy. In Europe they’ve been beating on about this for years. Happily, this Dem suggested a practical strategy which would put a few bits of change in peoples’ pockets. Most car tyres are under-inflated and it would save the import of >1m barrels per day if Americans just pumped up their tyres. Oil prices would be lower and no-one would even be discussing whether we need to drill ANWR.

  • KintheNorthwest

Im hoping that Hilllary becomes her own woman now. If she has any type of political aspirations left they will be destroyed unless she keeps her distance from Obama. There was and is nothing that Hillary can gain from being an Obama or DNC lackey For the life of me I cannot figure out why Bill and Hillary did what they did for Obama after Obama stomped all over them.
Right now I have a feeling that many many devoted Hillary supporters have no intentions of supporting her in any futher political campaigns. I wouldnt put it pass the DNC to try and unseat Hillary somehow, now or in the next Senate election.

It’s BOBO’s strategy when BOBO presents it as a strategy. LOL please tell us that at the very least, one of the changes you BOBOweenies intended from the very beginning was that BOBO would be responsible for the words that came out of mouth . Can someone tell me when was the last time we had a President that really won an election fairly??

I’m starting to think that America has never had a president while I’ve been living that won by the vote of the people only?

I use to think that Bush was the only one, but now Obama too. So since no one seems to want to do anything about it. No one any where is even talking about any voter fraud; makes me think, then, that this is just the way it well be for now on. This shallowly government made-up of who knows who well for now on forever rule in America. How sad is that??

  • JiffyJML

I’ve thought this forever and forever about Obama. The evidence would be in that he’s done very little actual “work” for any of the other jobs he’s had.

The joke’s on Obama. Once you’re president, you’re stuck doing it for four years.

(Unless he decides halfway through his term to “run for” Pope or God or Supreme Planet Earth Ruler or something.)

Great cartoon! I even like the size of Obama and the Democratic Party, as compared to the size of POTUS.

This cartoon reminds me of some well known sayings like “be careful what you wish for,” and the cures “may you live in interesting times.” I think that the Obama people definitely have the first one, and we all have the second one to deal with.
