Late Open Thread * MLK Foundation

This is the acknowledgement that Larry C. Johnson received for contributing, at the Founding Member level, to the Martin Luther King Foundation. It was a very large image, and tough to reduce without distorting the text. I hope it is readable.

It is important for me to tell you, because he rarely ever mentions it, that Larry is one of the most generous contributors to charity and to people in need that I have ever met. He donates to innumerable charities, including many that help the families of soldiers injured or killed in war. He has taken in both relatives and friends who needed a place to live for a while. (More about Larry’s generosity is below.)

mlk-1up1-s.jpg

The “Dream” statement is below, enlarged:

Then there’s this blog. Not only does Larry make NO money from this blog — let alone any of the writers — it runs in the red all the time. It’d blow your minds to know how much the servers and software assistance cost monthly. We get very few ads; we make a pittance off the Amazon ads (but so appreciate your clicking on Amazon here so we get those small amounts, which do help!). We would have had to shut down a long time ago except for your donations and Larry’s own generosity.- Susan

I’m afraid this isn’t very clear either. I trust you can read it though:

Larry is cool, and he’s never afraid to take a stand, unlike 90% of the dimwits in DC. I love noquarter. Thanks Larry!

      LARRY, YOU ARE THE BEST!

CONGRATULATIONS and keep the faith….ah how I wish I’d see you with HIllary in the White House….one day….I have a Dream….

    Congrats Larry!

BTW did you hear that Rush gave a caller distraught a about Zero a new car on his radio show to cheer her up?

    • csuzeq

He should ask for it back now because zero is going to give every poor American whatever their heart desires. As a matter of fact, I am going to quit my job because I don’t want to miss it when the free shit comes in case I have to sign for it or something. All of our problems are solved now since we elected a zero instead of a man who actually had some kind of record and honor. Hooray. It’s all better now. Don’t forget racism ended on 11/4/08 at about 9:30 CDT. Yippee.

I had a dream once, too, that in America you worked hard for what you got and everything was fair to all parties, equal time to speak and be heard. That women are equal to men and all races are equal. I also had a dream that elections were fair and our votes counted.

Too bad it turned into a nightmare.

      • frenchman47

FYI, the overwhelming Majority of poor people are poor not because they don’t work but because they work menial jobs that don’t pay enough. I have a sister who is 60 years old and who has worked her Butt off since she was 16 years old. Her level of ambition and how hard she works has Nothing to do with what she earns. Disparaging All poor people because a minority of them are lazy is pretty pathetic. Especially given the subject of this particular blog.

Let me guess, you’re one of those people who think that poor people Deserve to be poor and that if they just worked harder, they too could ‘live the American dream.’ Give me a break; do you really think poor people Like to clean hotel rooms, toilet bowls and serve meals to people with attitudes like yours? And believe me, they Know the attitude; they’re surrounded by it all day long.

Personally, I’m the fortunate one between us; I was able to go on to college and get a good paying job. Sister was learning disabled and she’s been paying for it all her life. Attitudes like yours remind me of why I’m a Democrat.

Where in God’s name did you get all of that from what csuzeq said? Wow.

        • Northwest rain

frenchman47 must be an Obama-butt troll — they have NO sense of humor.

csuzeq rant is an ironic snark.

We’ve seen enough YouTube vids of Obama-butts being interviewed who seemed to believe that Obama’s election means that he pays their mortgage, gas bills, etc etc etc. These folks were living in a fantasy land.

csuzeq just did a summary of all the Obama-butt’s wish list.

You Obama-butts have zero sense of humor — just like your messiah.

        • Patience

My sister (who I love dearly) and I somewhat parallel you and your sister. She lives from paycheck to paycheck like a lot of people and I help her out as much as I can. In spite of the differences in our lives we both voted for John McCain and we’re not Republicans.

I think csuzeq is referencing the troubling theme of class warfare employed by the Obama campaign, as well as the tactics used to win.

On Nov. 4, I overheard some women talking about how their food stamp allotment was going to double — their minister told them so. This, plus the Obama supporter in the now-infamous gas and mortgage video, makes me feel that poorer people were cynically exploited for political gain. I realize this is nothing new in the world of populism, but it seems cruel because I don’t think these particular goodies are going to materialize.

We need THIRD PARTY pumas party to be led by Hillary CLinton.

We need respect for girls and women, legislation to punish Sexism same way we deal with Racism–and UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE to ensure that no one suffers the indignities of losing a home or filing for bankruptcy due to…medical bills. This is a civil society…Yes I have a Dream, too!…

I still say a THIRD PARTY must be created for non-extremists with true Family values that include hard-working women’s values, respect for girls in math and sciences (Larry Summers appointed by Obummer in Treasury?!) and Universal Health care to prevent the indignities of filing for Bankruptcy and foreclosing on your home!
Only Hillary Clinton could start this Party!

      Obama Bought The Presidency

  • Northwest rain

I love that link to Amazon — the deals of the day. I’ve bought a number of the deals!!

Somehow I had forgotten the MLK was a Republican — and the earlier nasty history of the racist democrat party.

I’d like to slap some of the Obama-butts who seem to think that their messiah is the new MLK. NO! Obama’s connections to Black Liberation Theology was the opposite of what MLK stood for.

Just like there was a peace movement — using peaceful NON-VIOLENT methods to end the Vietnam war — and then there were the Ayers anarchists — the two groups had very little relationship to each other. The idea that Ayers got away with terrorizing so many of us makes me angry to this day.

MLK will have a special place in American history — Obama won’t. MLK loved America. Obama did not show up to honor MLK this summer.

    THANK YOU Larry!

    • BJ

Northwest, I remember you from Taylor Marsh’s site. As a matter of fact I haven’t been there in soooo long, that when I saw a post (here on NQ) the other day with your name on it, it reminded me about her site and took a quick look over there, and was amused to see the posts, even around election day and after, were in the 30 to 50 range.. my, my, how that all changed!

The link I posted above in the other post, is seriously one of the best articles I’ve read in a very (VERY) long time. I think you may enjoy it since you’ve always shown an intelligence in your posts from what I recall.. you may enjoy it too.

It basically is about the dumbed down state of our nation but briefly covers elections, campaigning tactics (that are for children), ppl unable to comprehend a mortgage, etc.. very, very good read.

The Obama camp accuses another note-worthy person of racism.

The “Obama camp”? The “Obama camp”?!?

It was a British journalist. BRITISH.

      • BJ

        Well let me clarify.

Huffington Post is up Obama’s ass and always has been. In referring to “Obama’s camp” I was talking about HuffPo and any of their writers, or actually anyone in the media who supports Obama openly, who then in turn calls them “racist” when they say something bad about Obama.

by the way, someone saying liberals just want to scrape Palin’s uterus (of any baby material), is deranged for thinking it and/or saying it.

Oh, and Larry is such a good guy…

    • chris

He’s a prince among men. And he spread the Larry Sinclair smear here on this blog. But that’s okay, because Mr. Johnson claims to have donated money to the MLK Foundation. It’s all good.

      • TROLL ALERT

NQ posted one blog piece and it was a guest piece by Tarply about the political prisoner aspect of Sinclair. Any other discussion was comments from site visitors in other threads. Your characterization “he spread the Larry Sinclair smear” is unjustified. In fact its the polar opposite. He held back except for allowing the Tarply piece, and it was the alleged unlawful detainment that was at issue. We get it troll, you are here to smear Larry Johnson. You should heed the warning about folks living in glass houses casting stones.

And someone yesterday by the name “chris” smeared Larry (the PBS comment) and then had to back off when he was proven wrong.

        • chris

Your characterization “he spread the Larry Sinclair smear” is unjustified. In fact its the polar opposite. He held back except for allowing the Tarply piece…

You are incorrect, TROLL ALERT. Larry Johnson himself blogged here about Larry Sinclair on June 18, 2008. The piece was titled “The Larry Sinclair Saga.”

Mr. Johnson wrote: “Larry alleges he did drugs and had consensual sex with Barack Obama. The Obama folks have gone crazy over the Sinclair allegations. … Here is Larry’s statement. Decide for yourself.”

Now that’s what I call spreading the Larry Sinclair smear.

Why must you mislead your readers and deny that he did it?

Hey Larry, if you won’t apologize for anything else… will you at least apologize for spreading the Larry Sinclair smear?

          • TROLL ALERT

I did not remember that post but stand corrected. What you quoted does not warrant your consistent attacks against LJ’s character.

            Is this you?

            Comment by chris | 2008-11-12 18:44:27

An apology is still due from you, however, Mr. Johnson. After seeing the Lee Atwater documentary on “Frontline” last night, it’s ever more evident that you were used as a conduit for an old-fashioned Republican dirty trick.

            Comment by Larry Johnson | 2008-11-12 19:10:21

            Chris,
Two of my three sources–people who had direct dealing with someone who had seen the video/tape of Michelle–are Democrats who supported Barack. The third person who told me of the same thing–24 hours after the two Democrats–is a Republican. So how is that a Lee Atwater scam. In addition to those three I later heard from two others who told the same story. I’m sorry you don’t like the message but I have nothing to apologize for.

            Comment by chris | 2008-11-12 19:13:53

Fair enough, Mr. Johnson. But as a former intelligence professional, one would expect you’d have a better-than-average sniffer for smears and disinformation.

            • chris

Yes, TROLL ALERT, that was me.

While Larry Johnson is now publicly demanding honorable action from John McCain vis-a-vis Gov. Palin… I demand honorable action from Mr. Johnson vis-a-vis his own eager participation in the politics of personal destruction.

              • TROLL ALERT

You see “eager participation in the politics of personal destruction” which is your opinion only.

                • chris

Backed up by the fact that, for months, Mr. Johnson was a willing conduit for any Obama-trashing smear that came down the pike.

This is about decency. This is about honor.

                  • TROLL ALERT

                    • chris

“High horse”? Who brought Martin Luther King into this!?

  • Northwest rain

I’ve followed the Black Panther movement for years — mostly because I was at ground zero at the Oakland Jr. College in 1967 when the BP gave one of their first news conferences to the media. I was literally right there in the middle of a group of black men (I don’t remember any black women present at the news conference). I was leaving the Jr. College and found my way blocked by a group of black men, dressed in black (one guy did have an ethnic African shirt on) the men were in the process of giving the news conference.

All the original BP members we at that news conference that I stumbled into. I was stuck — no way to turn around and leave — because the space behind me was suddenly filled with onlookers.

I find it so ironic that Obama is trying to cover himself with the MLK mantel — because the church Obama attends is a descendant of the BP wing of the civil rights movement.

“Ayers new apologia is, as one reads it, completely amazing in his disingenuous argument. He was active, he writes, at “a time when the world was in flames, revolution was in the air, and the serial assassinations of black leaders disrupted our utopian dreams.” Let us look at the last claim. Was he eluding to Martin Luther King, Jr. as one of those black leaders? If so, all one has to do is recall that Ayers and company, who supported “black power” and not non-violent resistance to segregation, considered King an Uncle Tom, and regularly blasted him as a sell-out. As for the assassination of blacks, one of the offshoots of his own group killed a black policeman in the Brinks robbery, and another killed a black school superintendent in Oakland, California. And of course, the Weather Underground saw Huey Newton’s gang of thugs, The Black Panther Party, as the vanguard of the revolution, and declared their own support for their activities. Newton killed plenty of blacks who opposed him, as well as others in gang wars over drugs.”

^ Indeed. Larry would’ve been Martin Luther King’s favorite blogger!

  • Mr.Murder

There used to a be a five story furniture factory to the south east of the Lorraine balcony he was shot at.

When he was shot people there pointed to the factory.

James Earl Ray was paid to shoot King, he was set up with two different vehicles between his trip from St.Louis to Memphis. His Brother was a national campaign director for a race baiting southern office holder. Ray was just out of jail and somehow had enough money and knowledge to stake King out two weeks ahead of time? One program claims he had plastic surgery just before that time as well?

Others have made the conclusion that a lot of people had in mind that something might go down, with a lot of transfers from the nearest first response station helping clear any minority presence from the facility.

You think any organization willing to pay for a hit and have a scapegoat wouldn’t trail the guy and have a shadow person assigned to make sure the shooting happened?

All they need is some way to coordinate the shot.

Someone ask him for a picture, two seconds after he waves, fire….

they didn’t time the shots entirely right, or they did and the distance between the two shooters firing locations created enough echo and drag that you could clearly hear a shot not timed with one Ray was said to have fired.

His brother was shaken down the day after the shooting. I knew his upstairs neighbors. If Ray didn’t play the patsy role, his closest family would pay the price.

How did a broke ex con come out of jail with so much money? Who was sending him cash for cars and big spending? He flaunted rolls of cash before going to Memphis. Perhaps the paperwork of the Wallace for President Campaign could have determined that….
