“Behind every successful woman there’s an astonished man” [Updated]

[HOT update video at end.]

Why did I not know this until I was browsing my favorite news site, the BBC?

Woman reaches US army’s top rank

An American woman has been promoted to four-star general – the first female to reach the US army’s highest rank.

In her acceptance speech, Ann E Dunwoody said she had never expected to rise so high in the ranks in her 33-year career.

General Dunwoody

She said no one was more surprised than she and her husband. “Behind every successful woman there’s an astonished man,” she added.

There are 21 female generals, most of them one-star, in the US army.

Women make up 14% of the army’s active-service strength of more than 500,000 soldiers.

Seriously. We need to find and post every story about every single successful woman. General Dunwoody, a wonk logistics expert, needs to be an inspiration for some girl out there. I feel it’s our job to be sure that girl hears the news.

……..

Holy smokes. I found this while browsing MSNBC for videos to make fun of, and instead was pleasantly surprised – Susan:

    Let every little girl know that anything really is possible if you work hard and do the best.

    Please make this the news it should be.

  • DawnellesSICKofPOLITICIANS

    I saw it last night

    She is sooooo cool!

    YAY for WOMEN!! FINALLY 4 STARS of our OWN!

    Lets celebrate all women. Lets show the full range and spectrum of women hood. Women excel in so many ways and have interest and strength are so diverse. We also need to celebrate and encourage a bit more non comformity – alittle less go along to get along.

    Lets be Pro All Women — admire,inspire, and suppport – particularly the least among us.

    When I was in the Navy, at Great Lakes Training Center, the CO of the entire base (huge base) was a woman. Rear Admiral Roberta Hazard was at the time the highest ranking female officer.

    NH -

    Love the title. Alas, too true.

  • NewHampster

    Watch the video and you’ll see a sense of humor along with the love of country.

  • Choo Choo Magoo

    love the thumbs up picture, too. It says it all.

    I agree, I know there is hope for this country when I see progress, despite all the attempts to squash American tolerance, all this divide and conquer nonsense.

    (Truly, I hope the military will next accept gay men and women, openly).

    When the military makes progress, the nation makes progress.

  • NewHampster

    Seems to me that the military just goes on doing their job with the best people. We still see hazing crap and stupid fraternity shit because I think the men in uniform tend to be that type. But I also think they learn faster from mistakes and then just plain move on.

  • New Party

    wooohoooooo for FOUR-STAR GENERAL DUNWOODY.

    Agree with above poster: let’s get rid of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Equal rights for all.

  • DawnellesSICKofPOLITICIANS

    all things should be equal in an equal world but the kind of folks that are willing to join the military are usually tough or willing to spend 4 yrs +/- acting tough

    when I served I knew a few women that I thought might prefer other women but I never met a man that I thought might be gay.

    I’m straight so I could have missed a more butch looking gay man I’m sure.

    I don’t know how I feel about it to be honest. I really don’t WANT to know about your love life but I do want to know if you are straight or gay if I am INTERESTED in you otherwise why waste my time right? lol

    sigh it’s a huge involved issue – the kind that give me headaches! ;-)

    NewHampster:

    Thanks for the post& videos! Actually I think it was Soldier4Hill that mention this yesterday (without Gen. Dunwoody’s name) yesterday in one of the posts about HRC for SoS.

    This is wonderful!!

    Excellent news! There’s one glass ceiling shattered. Perhaps there’s another.

    Let me take a wild guess that the General did not choose Obama as President. ;^)

  • rw

    In a year where we have seen women so abused, so trashed, this is inspiring and so is she.

  • Kbentleyis

    I’m so proud. My daughter has been General Dunwoody’s aid for almost 3 years now. She is totally devoted to the General, who is one of America’s best.

    Thank you for the note passed on from Susan. You must be very proud of your daughter, just as we as a nation are proud of General Dunwoody.

    For those who have not signed the RallyCongress Petition Regarding Barack Obama’s Birth Certificate,

    For those who have not signed the RallyCongress Petition Regarding Barack Obama’s Birth Certificate, I encourage you to do so. As of right now, 95,332 Petitions have been signed. I personally would like to see at 100,000 to be signed and delivered by December 1, 2008. Before the Electorial College meet.

    Below is a Copy Only of the Petition. To sign it and have a copy go to Your State Representatives please follow this link:

    http://www.rallycongress.com/constitutional-qualification/1244/stop-obama-constitutional-crisis/

    Sign the Petition : 95,332 Letters and Emails Sent So Far
    Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution reads: “No Person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.”

    There are numerous questions as to Obama’s citizen status raising suspicion and doubt about Obama constitutional qualification to be president. To settle these questions Mr. Obama must produce proof of citizenship!

    Documents that must be produced include;
    (a) a certified copy of “vault” (original long version) birth certificate;
    (b) certified copies of all reissued and sealed birth certificates in the names Barack Hussein Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham and Barry Dunham;
    (c) a certified copy Certification of Citizenship;
    (d) a certified copy Oath of Allegiance taken upon age of maturity;
    (e) certified copies of admission forms for Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law School; and
    (f) certified copies of any court orders or legal documents changing his name from Barry Soetoro.

    It is reasonable that these documents should be produced considering that his father is Kenyan, his adoptive father is Indonesian, and his grandmother claims to have been present at his birth in Kenya. If he is a natural born citizen then producing these documents should not be any problem.

    These allegations will not go away until Mr. Obama produces proof to federal authorities and the public. If he will not do so voluntarily he must be compelled by every means available. You, as an employee of The People, have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution.

    We The People are demanding you to make every effort, both public and private, to resolve this fundamental Constitutional question before 20 January.

    “Or Atty General after retirement?”—if she’s qualified lawyer, but other cabinet post would do after retirement….
