Choo Choo Magoo, on No Quarter

(Choo Choo’s submission is in response to my request for all of our regular readers to submit their “rants” and whatever else they are feeling or thinking about. Below the “fold,” there’s an important note about submitting your own stories.)

FROM CHOO CHOO MAGOO: This is actually a resubmission – revised and extended. I originally wrote a short version of this as a comment back in Sept. I had just watched John Adams and was blown away with the hardships and sacrifices the founding fathers were willing to endure to create the framework for this great country. No Quarter has been a haven for me from political and personal storms over the last year. But more than that, the writers and commentators
at No Quarter have reaffirmed my belief in the courage, determination and wisdom of “we the people”. So here is my tribute to Larry, Susan and NQ community.
With Many Thanks – Choo Choo Magoo

No Quarter
It’s a warm hearth and hearty laughter that draws you through the door on a cold and blustery night. The food is good, the ale is better and the company diverse. And so you linger.
There’s a small group in a far corner that catches your eye. Heads huddled, shoulders hunched, their voices raised with passion. You draw closer.
The words are angry, thoughtful, funny, wise and intense. You listen entranced as they rail against a mad king, argue democracy and dream of what it could all mean. Your mind races; your heart soars. Soon your own voice, your own words are joining the groups.
Too quickly the hours pass. Too soon your voice is spent. Reluctantly you bundle up to go home.
It’s a strong wind that set the sign over the tavern door swinging wildly. But it’s the words upon the sign that make you stand tall as you turn to face the wind – No Quarter.
Your walk is firm. Your head is high. You’re moving forward. But you’ll be back.
No Quarter.
The time has come. There’s much to say. It’s country first. We’ll lead the way.
No Quarter.

Thank you so much, Choo Choo. Your post will fill our hearts today, all day.
Now, HERE IS MORE about submitting your own “rants” and other stories: Humor pieces are very welcome too. Do be sure to read about how to submit your story, which can be one paragraph — really! Even one sentence! But I’m already getting excellent submissions from wonderful readers who didn’t follow the rules, so please read those again. Thanks! – susanunpc at gmail dot com
