Choo Choo Magoo, on No Quarter

(Choo Choo’s submission is in response to my request for all of our regular readers to submit their “rants” and whatever else they are feeling or thinking about. Below the “fold,” there’s an important note about submitting your own stories.)

………………………………………………..

FROM CHOO CHOO MAGOO: This is actually a resubmission – revised and extended. I originally wrote a short version of this as a comment back in Sept. I had just watched John Adams and was blown away with the hardships and sacrifices the founding fathers were willing to endure to create the framework for this great country. No Quarter has been a haven for me from political and personal storms over the last year. But more than that, the writers and commentators
at No Quarter have reaffirmed my belief in the courage, determination and wisdom of “we the people”. So here is my tribute to Larry, Susan and NQ community.

With Many Thanks – Choo Choo Magoo

………………………………………………..

No Quarter

It’s a warm hearth and hearty laughter that draws you through the door on a cold and blustery night. The food is good, the ale is better and the company diverse. And so you linger.
There’s a small group in a far corner that catches your eye. Heads huddled, shoulders hunched, their voices raised with passion. You draw closer.

The words are angry, thoughtful, funny, wise and intense. You listen entranced as they rail against a mad king, argue democracy and dream of what it could all mean. Your mind races; your heart soars. Soon your own voice, your own words are joining the groups.

Too quickly the hours pass. Too soon your voice is spent. Reluctantly you bundle up to go home.

It’s a strong wind that set the sign over the tavern door swinging wildly. But it’s the words upon the sign that make you stand tall as you turn to face the wind – No Quarter.

Your walk is firm. Your head is high. You’re moving forward. But you’ll be back.

No Quarter.

The time has come. There’s much to say. It’s country first. We’ll lead the way.

No Quarter.

Thank you so much, Choo Choo. Your post will fill our hearts today, all day.

Now, HERE IS MORE about submitting your own “rants” and other stories: Humor pieces are very welcome too. Do be sure to read about how to submit your story, which can be one paragraph — really! Even one sentence! But I’m already getting excellent submissions from wonderful readers who didn’t follow the rules, so please read those again. Thanks! – susanunpc at gmail dot com

Wonderful post! (You always can tell a great writer when you can play the words as a movie in your head.)

  • Typewriterstreaming

Wow, that was really beautiful. Thank you so much Choo Choo. You transported me along with your words. What a complete warm delight.

Can I just say that the writing on this blog is phenomenal, from the posts to the comments. I have enjoyed reading every posts.

Thank you NoQuarter for what you do (and for keeping me sane for the last 18 months).

      Here! Here!

I just posted on RCP Readers Articles. The first time I did this, I immediately got so many votes I was moved to the front page and then, PUFF! So, I changed the submission a little, re-posted, got to 18 and then PUFF! I just re-posted. Please, vote for this article. It’s about how to gain standing in a suit in federal court, long enough either to force BO to produce documentation he is a natural born citizen; or to show the Electoral College voters he doesn’t want the job of POTUS badly enough to prove he is eligible to get it.

Your words painted a great picture. It reminded me of the atmosphere found in the popular 80′s TV show, Cheers– which reminded me of a simpler time in my life. Thanks for the mini mental vacation.

Ray — that’s exactly what I was thinking.
“Makin’ your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Takin’ a break from all your worries sure would help alot.
Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name
And they’re always glad you came.
You wanna go where people know troubles are all the same.
You wanna go where everybody knows your name.”

Choo Choo — thanks so much for posting this! I love that there are people like you who can paint with words!

I want to sue the pants off of utube for erasing my videos. I have been uploading the same one, just for them to remove it today and then erased every single one I had from the primaries until now. Amazing. Someone out there believes I don’t have the right to express my viewpoints freely.

I am so furious right now. They have no idea, none…these people honestly believe they are untouchable. Because the media and others wont address why citizens of this countries rights are being violatd they think they have free reign.

By the time I get finished with these Mfs they are going to wish they never even seen my “soldier4hillary” videos on utube.

      WHAT?!?!?!?!?!!!!

I don’t have a lot of expertise on YouTube but would this be YouTube moderators or just trolls?

I dont know who it is but all of them are gone. I posted one yesterday and today called Empowerment thru Equality. Just talking about how women should support other women when sexism is in play. That supporting the actions does not mean you believe in the same things the individual believes in. They erased it yesterday and then today after being up for 30 minutes they took it down again.

What about the other video sharing sites, I think Eyeblast is one?

    • Portia Elizabeth

Patsy — are you kidding me?!!! WTF???
      That’s terrible!
      I’m so pissed right now!
      Your videos were great!!!!!
I hope you saved them all.
What can we do to help?

  • http://www.anvp.typepad.com/soldier4hillary soldier4hillary

No one silences me. I am so mad I am freakn shaking! It’s like a slap in the god@amn face! Like I don’t have the right to express my opinion. They let these lowlifes do whatever they want in the name of Obama. The media might lack the balls to report it. But I damn sure have the strength to fight it. These individuals epitomize corruption.

Those videos meant something to me and helped keep my mind off of the radiation therapy I was going through just by becoming involved in something other than what I was currently going through. And these fu&kers erased my shit.

I want to go after them badly. I am tired of these losers getting away with this stuff. No one is untouchable.

Doesn’t Google now own youtube? Who is on the board? Al Gore.

This is only the beginning–they’re going after cops in Durham for writing negative comments about the Messiah on their own sites, the One sent his lawyers during the campaign to shut down certain commercials and sent his thugs to shut down a radio program in Chicago–I hate to sound pessimistic but I hope to God that NQ can withstand the pressure when he gets into the WH-he’s going to censor everything that’s critical of him because he can’t take it. Also, remember Kelly-Jones in Ohio who illegally searched for Joe the Plumber’s private info, that’s BO and it’s only going to get worse.

  • Sassy

    Good work Choo Choo!
You conjure up images of thoughtful, honest debate of important ideas.
It’s too bad that our society is intent on demeaning the democratic process.
We will continue to lose the brightest leaders if we remain intent on destroying them!

  • Drummajor

So sorry that happened to you Soldier. I hope they make it right, you don’t deserve that.

  • La Compania Volante

I’d say, “You keep going, soldier, don’t let the turkeys get you down,” but I know you’d keep going regardless of encouragement or criticism.

Ah, heck, I’ll say it anyway: “Keep it up, soldier!”

  • La Compania Volante

Good column, Choo Choo Magoo. Reminds me of a time-honored Irish greeting to a friend: “Let us sit down together over a wee dram of the old and talk a little treason.

    And regarding John Adams:

“Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood. … A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever. Our obligations to our country never cease but with our lives.” –John Adams
