Breaking Discussion: Cain & Sex (UPDATE)

Say it ain’t so. A.P.: Cain denies report of sexual harassment“:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain’s campaign denied allegations Sunday that he was twice accused of sexual harassment while he was the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

In a statement to The Associated Press, his campaign refuted a Politico report that said Cain had been accused of sexually suggestive behavior toward at least two female employees. The report said the women signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them five-figure financial payouts to leave the association and barred them from discussing their departures. Neither woman was identified.

The report was based on anonymous sources and, in one case, what the publication said was a review of documentation that described the allegations and the resolution.

Cain’s campaign told the AP that the allegations were not true, and amounted to unfair attacks.

“Inside-the-Beltway media have begun to launch unsubstantiated personal attacks on Cain,” spokesman J.D. Gordon said in a written statement. “Dredging up thinly sourced allegations stemming from Mr. Cain’s tenure as the Chief Executive Officer at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, political trade press are now casting aspersions on his character and spreading rumors that never stood up to the facts.”

Asked if Cain’s campaign was denying the report, Gordon said, “Yes.”

Aides did not immediately respond to whether Cain would keep to his planned appearances in Washington on Monday. He was slated to discuss his tax plan at the American Enterprise Institute, appear at the National Press Club and hold a healthcare briefing on Capitol Hill. …

Check out more stories via Google News.

Of Note: In the last debate, Cain introduced himself as married for 44 years. But I can’t recall ever seeing his wife on television or in print. So I googled her tonight after seeing the above story.

With wife Gloria, married in 1968

From Cain’s Wikipedia bio:

“Cain married Gloria Cain (née Etchison), of Atlanta, soon after her graduation from Morris Brown College in 1968.[15][16] His wife of 43 years is a homemaker, who also served stints as a teacher and a librarian.[15] The couple have two children and three grandchildren.[17]”

Wedding in 1968

And here’s the article from which I borrowed the image: “Herman Cain wiki, bio, show, wife, pro-life and other stuff people want to know about the man who may be president in 2012

The wedding photo comes from yet another site. Go to UAddIt, which purports to answer the question of Herman Cain’s marriage and wife.

It is peculiar that so few photographs are found of Cain’s wife and/or the two of them together.

If you’re curious, here’s the link to all of the results for Google’s images of Cain’s wife, including — obviously — some rather (but typically so) bogus results.

UPDATE–(From Larry Johnson). Bronwyn nails it. Cain has a big problem and it will probably derail his campaign if not handled properly and quickly. There are only two possible answers to the question, “Have you been accused of sexual harassment?” Yes or no. If he was falsely accused but paid out a major settlement to two different women, then he is toast. If there were only “accusations” but no subsequent action, then he is probably okay but still damaged. The key remains whether or not the women come forward. If they are required to be silent as a condition of a settlement then that will come out too and, if that is the case, Cain is done.

I like Herman Cain but he is not running a tight ship as a Presidential candidate. There is no guarantee that a good candidate will be a good Presdient, but a bad candidate does not give you a warm fuzzy when you step into the voting booth.

Cain is now on Fox. He admits he was accused but claims he was falsely accused. Gives a weasel worm answer on whether or not there was a settlement. If the restaurant association made a settlement then Cain, despite his protestations, will be mortally damaged.

I’ll tell you what pisses me off about this story. Politico did this – but have you ever seen them run a real investigation into Obama’s gay affairs, particularly with Larry Sinclair, who wasn’t anonymous and who actually wrote a darn book about it?

This just strikes me as a partisan hit. Guess they are worried about Cain winning. And trust me, I care about women’s issues – it’s why I was such a big supporter of Hillary as well as Palin – but I am tired of the media doing all this digging into conservatives and the best they can come with are vague rumors by people not willing to come forward and speak for themselves – and then they let Obama get off scott free.

I don’t think it will hurt Cain much at this point. I just read comments at Politico. Conservatives are furious and calling this another high tech lynching along the lines of Clarence Thomas. If anything, this would have hurt Cain if it were brought up in the general election, but it’s far too soon for that. They might have actually helped Cain by doing this so early. By the time the general election comes along, the charges will have lost their punch.

Is it impossible to believe that Cain’s wife chooses to stay in the background and is not a media whore like the cow obama is chained to?  I think he will come out of this unscathed, but that won’t preclude obamarrhoids and those of their ilk from playing the “gotcha” game.  If we had an honest media, obama would not have made it to the primaries…just sayin’

I totally agree with you.  I read Larry Sinclair’s book and I believe every word.  The media ignored Larry’s claims, even though he was very public with the claims.  Joe Biden’s son was behind Larry being arrested after his Press Club appearance.  Larry’s lucky to be alive, imo.  The Republican establishment and the liberal media don’t want Cain to win the primary, and I knew it was a matter of time before this kind of personal destruction would start.  It will be Cain derrangement until he’s driven out of the competition.

Politico is owned by WashPo.  They are gutter snipes.  If you are a federal prosecutor or a legitimate newspaper you get a lot of information from anonymous sources.  If you cannot corroborate it then you do not use it to indict, or in the case of a newspaper use it to injure someone’s reputation.  A week ago, that same newspaper, which endorsed the Fraud and has never printed a negative story about him printed two very negative stories about him. In one case, they claimed he lied about his parents fleeing Castro’s Cuba, and in another case they promulgated a bullshit story that he would be a risky choice for vice president.  Ironically, they never thought it was risky at all, to select and unqualified one term senator from Illinois with ties to shady crooks and a racist spiritual adviser to that job. What is the difference?  Teddy Kennedy, the race angle, and the fact that Obama is a leftist who loves big government and big government is good for Washington and bad for the country.  The operative question, then, is how do we convince the people of this country to pay no attention to them, and to regard anything they say with deep suspicion?  That is the question. They are on a mission to destroy anyone and everyone who opposes Obama, and they will go right into the gutter to get it, and it does not matter whether it is true or not.  To have people like this controlling the public mind and discourse invalidates any pretense of democracy.

  • Wbboe

Ben Bradlee is a Boston Brahmin and former executive editor in chief of WashPo. He is an intimate friend of the Kennedy family. He was in charge of that newspaper at the time of Watergate.   I am told that he has diminished capacity.  His wife is Sally Quinn, and she is the contemporary version of Pamela Digbe Harriman who was known to her friends as the great horizontal. These people trace their lineage back to the Mayflower or thereabouts. If you want to know who the 100 elite families are in this country, who control our political system—they call it “the game” this is one of them.  They are Hillary haters and Obama lovers. They hate Republicans and they hate the American people–much as Hamilton did.  They are part of the elite class that is cannibalizing this country.

There is a typo above the reference was to Rubio whom they are trying to destroy because the inside talk around Washington now is that he will likely be the vice president on the Republican ticket.  If that is true, then it will put a crimp in Christy’s plans.  My sense is, if he wanted to be president, 2012 was his time, just as 2008 was Hillary’s time.  There is a time and a tide in the affairs of men . . . .  etc

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_C._Bradlee

  • Wbboe

Recently, WashPo appointed a new executive editor and some people–like Ron Kessler at Newsmax jumped to the conclusion that her appointment would mean that conservatives would be treated more fairly. I sent him an email telling him he was full of shit.  Since then, WashPo has hired a slew of leftists–like little Ezra Klein and have kept the dead wood they have like Eugene Robinson, Dana Milbank, EJ Dionne et al.  I will be interested to see if NYT makes a turn–I doubt it, but for years they had the worst executive editor in journalism–Bill Keller.  Their new editor is Liz Rozenthal, and if she is Abe’s child then there may be some marginal improvement–some. Politico is a left wing sewer–as their recent attack on Cain amply demonstrates. Very low grade journalism.

  • Wbboe

That is correct.  He did not come over on the Mayflower like they did.  And neither did I.

  • Wbboe

I remember reading what John Paul Jones had to put up with when he was trying to raise a navy. Or what Washington had to put up with when the officers of the Continental Army threatened to abandon the young nation because they were not paid what they were promised.  Or what Old Hickory had to put up with–and would not put up with when he was president.  Those same Mayflower families were fucking with the American People even in those days. But then we had a frontier so we could go west and get away from them.  Not so today.

  • Anovy1

Well thank you for that compliment. Uncle Tom was a wonderful guy that helped alot of his fellow slaves. He was considered a hero.

Once again, thank you for the compliment, Cain is a hero to many people.

  • Wbboe

I am not too worried about beating Obama.  I think that will happen.  What I worry about is whether the Republican president will represent the American People or the elites.  It seems to me that is the real issue we are debating now.  It is what I worry most about.  How do we ensure that he keeps his word?

  • Anonymous

    This is Obama 100%.

Romney is winning this nomination. To him Iowa was never that vital in achieveing that.

The issue is the VP slot who it would appear would likely be Cain. That would be very detrimental to Obama.

How to avoid that occurence? Plant this thinly sourced story before Iowa.

  • Anonymous

These were people with the National Restaurant Association which has its annual convention in Chicago (big surprise). From experience, when it comes to any form of harrassment or discrimination in the corporate world nothing conclusive should ever be drawn from a charge that is made.I wish I had $100 for ever reckless charge of harrassment or discrimination made that are patently false but are used to prevent someone from getting  fired or as payback for getting even for a bad performance review. What is most disturbing is that we are not talking about children or rape and no names of accusers have been unveiled. There is no reason for hiding their identities and actual facts of the cases. When Clarence Thomas was presented with such a charge, Anita Hill came forward. Where are these accusers?

As far as Cain’s wife, he has said that she does not like the limelight and you have to respect that.

  • Anonymous

I listened to the worm from Politico who wrote the story and was being interviewed in the Morning Schmo Show., who already have Cain found guilty and probably shuld have a lynching tree int eh studio.

He never mentioned what exactly the charges were by these women.

He made sure to mention that the NNRA (National Restaurant Association) has these women sign exit agreements and were paid money. Sounds terrible but let me interpret.

Two women were fired from the NRA who made some kind of claim against Cain and  received severence money (of course Politico does not call it severance pay).

I am familiar with one situation that happened in a company I once worked for. A senior executive (man) was in a small meeting with one of his assistants and with another senior executive from a support department (woman) who also had an assistant.

The woman was known for flying off the handle. In this meeting she was demanding certain provisions and the man was trying to be conciliatory with half-way measures. She was unyielding and then began on a rant which became nasty and derisive. But then she went too far and made rude comments about the man’s parents (who were deceased). The man finally got up angry, did not raise his voice, and tried to stop the meeting but she get going. He finally said, “Shut the f_ _ k up. This meeting is over.” And he left.

The man went to the President of the company and relayed what happened. In the meantime, this woman went to the appropriate EVP of the company and filed a sexual harrassment charge against him.  All such charges are taking seriously and this man’s career could have been jeopordized expcept for the fact that two other people were in the room and supported his side.

As a result of this false charge the woman was fired, asked to sign a waiver for future lawsuits, and given a generaous severence.

I would not take any of what is ebing said about Cain seriously unless and until these women come forward and ALL evidence is exposed.

This has Obama’s fingerprints all over it – not Romney. Romney never cared about winning Iowa. Cain on the Romney ticket could severely damage any miserable chance Obama has to win.

Different day, same shit from Obama, Inc. They can’t take the high road because don’t have anything even approaching a valid reason to vote for him, so they take the low road with its attendant slash and burn ad hominems that detract from the real issues. It isn’t about winning now but about Barry not losing, whatever it takes.

I believe Hokma is correct about what really happened–probably some corporate rift where emotions perhaps got out of control and nothing more. But the PC Gestapo will make mountains out of molehills to ensure malicious lock-step compliance with their progressive agenda.

Moreover, the democrats ALWAYS turn the discussions from a debate about policy into one about irrelevant, malicious, and salacious crap that has no meaning in the long run but fans the flames that inspire their mob.

Finally, if this is all they can locate in Cain’s otherwise stellar background, they’re up shit creek sans boat AND paddle. If it turns out that Romney’s supporters did this, I hope Gingrich blasts them a good one for speaking ill of a fellow conservatives.

From the Politico Arena, a comment that everyone should see:

Curt A. Levey Executive Dir., Committee for Justice :

POLITICO’s exclusive story reports allegations that
Herman Cain made an “an unwanted sexual advance” and engaged in
“innuendo or personal questions of a sexually suggestive nature” and
suggests that this amounts to sexual harassment. POLITICO should have
pointed out that the allegations, even if true, do not constitute sexual
harassment under the law unless they are “sufficiently severe or
pervasive” among other criteria. There is no suggestion in the POLITICO
article that the alleged behavior was either severe or pervasive.

Instead, POLITICO places a lot of weight on the report that “there
were financial settlements in two cases in which women leveled
complaints.” Again, POLITICO should have pointed out that such
settlements are common in negative-publicity-shy corporate America even
when the evidence of harassment falls far short of the threshold needed
to get the accuser a day in court.

I also wish that POLITICO had put the allegations against Cain in
context by pointing out that popular ex-President Bill Clinton was
charged with sexual harassment and worse by several women. Despite the
almost universal assumption that there was some fire behind the smoke of
charges against Clinton, much of America – including most of the
mainstream media (MSM) – admires Clinton and his presidency. Sexual
harassment is a serious problem, but the MSM’s embrace of Bill Clinton
represents an implicit acceptance that even the best of our leaders have
character flaws. It would be inconsistent for the MSM to now suggest
that the allegations against Cain somehow disqualify him for the
    presidency.

    Great comment.

As far as “financial settlements” that was probably a severance for these people leaaving their jobs.

But I agree entirely that corporations are constantly extorted for cash settlements to prevent possible negative publicity for harassment and discrimination charges – even ones that are transparently bogus.

Could be.  Could be.  As a Howard Dean supporter (avoid commenting on that part so we can stay on topic), I will NEVER forget how John Kerry and Dick Gephardt secretly conspired to run ads in Iowa and surrounding states that showed Dean so soft on foreign policy that he’d let Osama bin Laden take over.  Sure enough, Dean tanked in Iowa (for other reasons too), he laughed too heartily (which was clipped and replayed 5,000 times a day on every news outlet for its maximum effect), and he became the clown candidate and was finished.

Of course, stupid Gephardt had the union backing and dollars to pull off that vicious stunt, but Kerry is the one who benefited.  Bet Kerry loved that too. – Bronwyn

The idiots that will “believe” this story are probably obamacrats anyway. The very idea that an articulate, charismatic black man could be a conservative is anathema to them.

I believe this could backfire badly on them. Another “story” about a libidinous black man may not play as well after the Clarence Thomas high tech lynching.

For all these years I have believed the Anita Hill version. But seeing how slimy and low the left is in going after any conservative that gains some traction I begin to wonder.

I won’t believe this story until it is proved beyond a reasonable doubt. Until then just another lefty smear IMO.

The difference between Thomas and Cain is that Thomas was actually able to face his accuser…at least one of them.

Cain doesn’t have that luxury.  He has to deal with rumor and innuendo.

Harp – Chuck Todd would not accept any answer that was counter to his MSNBC narrative and was showing frustration. Block was very, very good and very clear.

When the highest level of the NRA (National Restaurant Association) past and present attest to Cain then the Martin story starts to smell like another train wreck far left story – the Duke Lacrosse case. It is easy for far left media to put out a thin story about discrimination and sexual harassment without ever investigating the actual charges.

At some point these women are going to be exposed as well as their circumstances. One of two things will result: (1) end of Cain’s run, or (2) end of the careers of the accuser and the reporters who published the story. I am guessing the latter will prevail.

I suspect that he may be guilty of this, but I don’t like the man for
many many reasons.  BUT!!  he is innocent until proven guilty.
Interesting how when it came to Obama, it didn’t matter how much proof
you had they wouldn’t run with a story but with Cain they are quick to
    make a scandal.

I think honestly they are trying to bring hm down to fizzle out like
Perry and Bachmann and Newt.  Seems to me they are trying to get Romney
to win IOWA or at least several of the Early states.  Iowa right now
doesn’t like Romney. Cain can’t take Iowa because he doesn’t have the
staff on the ground or money there.  Paul might take it though.  He has a
    real good chance.

Anyway, it seems as if we are again being manipulated.  They float out
one person, make them a superstar and hide all their flaws only to bring
them down in a crash.  When the smoke clears we are supposed to come to
the conclusion that Romney is the steady Eddy.  That “Romney may be
boring but he will at least beat obama and not have any scandals”

I’m not voting for Romney if he gets the nom.  He is zero different than
Oblahblah.  Romney gets in we are looking at a continuation of
Bush/Obama.  Then in 4 years if there is anything left to this nation
and we aren’t in WWIII,  we will be deciding who on the democrat side is
    the “Lesser of two Evils”

NO thanks!!!  I’m getting off this merry go round and voting my conscious.  My vote is my only say so now.  It’s a protest vote if nothing else.

I run a business. Disgruntled sorts sue after they leave for any number of reasons.

I have had to defend myself against any number of charges of sexism (!), racism, and being anti gay, just so someone could get some cash.

Interestingly its sometimes not even the employee themselves that is the issue.

    An example:

A black, gay male quit his job to leave the area. He decided that he deserved unemployment compensation and applied as he was packing for points far away. His claim was denied by the state.

He then said I was a racist homophobe and that although he quit (after working for 5 years apparently happily to move far away), he left because the workplace was hostile, racist and homophobic. Just so he could get his $177 a week. And he put this in writing and went to court and said it out loud. So I suppose if I ran for office someone would unearth it, and him, pay him $50 and “prove” I am a bad person.

There is no end to what people will do, and this “news item” is not of interest to me.

As far as Mrs. Cain not liking to be in the papers, good for her. I have had enough of Michelle Obama and her fawning press and desire to be on the cover of everything.

    Cain leading in Texas

Cain got 27 percent to Perry’s 26 percent among Texas registered voters who identify themselves as Republicans. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul
was next with 12 percent, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt
Romney at 9 percent and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 8
percent. The other Republican primary candidates — Michele Bachmann, Jon
    Huntsman, Gary Johnson and Rick Santorum — each got 2 percent or less;
11 percent of the respondents answered “don’t know,” and another 1
percent said they would prefer “another Republican candidate.”

Exactly right. Sometimes people bring up these charges because they have other agendas. Politico is simply one-sided “reporting” based on anonymous third-party sources who aren’t even the actual women involved in this case. The reporting is biased and therefore the entire story is suspect.

  • http://noquarterusa.net Larry Johnson

I fully agree, but how you answer the charges, even false charges, goes to establishing your ability to deal with crises of all stripes.  Cain needs to do several things:  1) Clearly deny the allegation, 2) Get other managers from that time out in public and on the record denying the charges, and 3) getting other female employees/subordinates on the record supporting him.

If there was a settlement, however, that is a big problem.  We’ll see.

  • http://twitter.com/beyondpartisan beyond partisan

Re: Larry’s update. I don’t think the settlement will be his downfall. I’m reading comments on conservative sites and people are so outraged at Politico for the smear that they are starting a donation campaign to Cain – $9.99 for each time Cain is smeared.

I’ve also seen numerous stories by people who share how some women abused the sexual harassment laws to make money off of companies and how the settlement means nothing. I actually know a woman who did that myself, so I am personally not giving much credence to the story. And I have to be fair – I forgave Bill Clinton MUCH MUCH WORSE when I was a Democrat.

What these left-leaning publications don’t realize is how they are shooting themselves in the foot in many ways. Once I woke up to the media bias in 08, I don’t trust most of what comes out of the MSM. And after being a liberal all my adult life, I find myself reading conservative news sources to get some balance. I read Breitbart and Drudge now! And I am doing this precisely because the left got so out of control with their media bias.

Most corporate officers are covered by some sort of insurance against being sued…It is much cheaper for those companies to settle rather than to go to trial.
My husband was an officer in a small association and against their wishes, the insurance company settled with  some lying accusers only because it was cheaper. The association couldn’t afford to go it alone…and it ended up that they had difficulty after that in getting officers’ insurance because of the “pay out”

Back in my day, sexual harrassment charges weren’t financially rewarding — actually, sexual harrassment wasn’t even in the dictionary.  We (women) just dealt with it and speaking or reading about it always brings to mind something that happened to me when I was in Graduate school.  I worked for a Dean of something, can’t remember now, who must have been pushing 70.  He was short, bald-headed, and wore glasses.  To get my hours in, I worked during lunch this particular day and was cleaning and organizing the books in Dr. (PhD) Dean’s office.  The Secretary and Dr. Dean were out to lunch.  Toward the end of the hour, Dr. Dean came into his office.  I had my back to him and was reaching up to put books on a higher shelf when all of a sudden Dr. Dean came up behind me and put both of his hands on my boobs.  Shocked, I shouted, “Dr. Dean!”  Well, he started apologizing, stuttering around…you get the picture.  I left his office, signed out at the Secretary’s desk, and encountered the Secretary on my way out.  I shared with her what had happened and we laughed and laughed…the image of this old man grabbing my boobs was just too much.  I finished out the term working for Dr. Dean and he was always polite and respectful.  I just never worked in the office unless the Secretary was present.  Had I known how it worked, I might have been able to get my degree without ever attending another class!

I am reminded of a friend who decided to take over her Dr. husband’s bookkeeping.. At first the old bookkeeper would not let her have the books, took them home over a weekend, and then quit.
Not long after, the Dr. was charged with Medicare fraud. She testified against him and he was found guilty based upon what she said and how she had altered the books. (Mainly that he had used the purchase of his wife’s engagement ring as a business expense and that he had charged Medicare for treating non-existent patients. He was the only doctor in a very small town and was extremely busy. He didn’t need to invent Medicare patients. Furthermore, he and his wife lived simply in her double wide trailer…)
But…he was found guilty, lost his license, went to prison, and no longer can get a job. Now, the old bookkeeper, who they found out later had testified against four former employers,,,and had collected a percentage of the supposed fraud amount in each case….went on her merry way.

  • http://twitter.com/beyondpartisan beyond partisan

I just watched Cain speak at the National Press Club. He said the sexual harassment accusations were false, and that he had handed the case over to HR and recused himself from the investigation. He said he was not aware of any settlement. I would think that if there were any truth to the allegations that he would have been censured in some way (or at least told about a settlement) but it didn’t sound like he was.

He did a great job speaking and explaining his 9-9-9 plan, the crowd offered a lot of polite applause (even though they weren’t supposed to applaud), and they even gave him a standing ovation at the end after he sang briefly.

I don’t think he’s going to be much hurt by this. It will be something that Obama bloggers will bring up incessantly in comments but otherwise I doubt it will hurt his poll standing with conservatives.

My guy’s blacker ’cause he was born in Memphis
    My guy’s blacker than yours.

According to the latest news reporting, Cain’s alleged sexual harrassment consisted of “inappropriate physical gestures” that were made in the presence of the two complainers.  Read:  they saw him giving someone the finger.

I think it may have been done by Democrats, with the cover of Republican help, so the front runners start firing at each other, making them look bad, as a twofer.

Also the suits could have been against the NRA, and as Hermain Cain was the guy in charge at the time, he had to be named, but may or may not have had anything to do with it in a actual, sense. I mean have you seen the headlines at HuffPo or Politico? It is like reading a rag news paper “3-Headed Baby survives, because Democrat kissed her”.(You get my drift).

I wouldn’t have responded first, I think it is better to have let it come out this way. If Cain’s campaign had said something first, it still, somehow would not have been right; as in damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Better to let them accuse, and him answer. If there is a gag order in place, what I want to know is who leaked the information then? How could it be leaked froma specific person-who is gagged on reveal versus losing the settlement? Or is this whole thing being formulated by there were suits at this time, with these allegations, and that portion is public record without naming a specfic party beyond the NRA-so perhaps that is what we are hearing about.

  • Anonymous

Had a similar experience in younger years as well. I know we had some lechers and then we just had some men that were not PC, thought it was still ok to tell someone how nice they looked, or would open a door for you, or perhaps tell a joke they shouldn’t have. Sometimes they were not aware of the implication as to how their actions could be perceived as harrassment, as many were not prosecuted and taken seriously and others were of little or no merit considering the lack of education and comprhension of the new expectations in the work place. I would not want to be in a position of power as a man in a company at this point in time. I know there are some very real cases of harassment, but damn any person who has made up allegations to line their pockets, just as anyone who has falsley claimed  rape-these are parasites who only want money and don’t care how great the harm is that they have caused.

The other thing about the Cain issue-was there anything beyond the threat of a civil case? Was there an actual civil case filed, or a related criminal case? I need a whole lot more information about this before I start believing anything. I don’t think Cain needs to do anymore than he has done. Why is there such a great expectation for him to do so. Hell Obama got in office by just not answering, period. What a nasty double standard, and what a filthy tactic.

  • Anonymous

Exactly, but they want you to think it was Romney or another republican(although I wouldn’t put anything past Rove). Watching him walk back his compliment in complete fear was amusing and sad all at once. He probably ran off to consult the personnel manual to find out if he could in fact say “that is a nice dress”.

Also I used to share an office with an much older gentleman when I first began my career. When he retired he kissed me on the cheek as he was leaving, and I had zero issues with it. He was about 900 and was like a great uncle who was very fond of me.

Unfortunately someone other than myself filed some sort of complaint about it, and I had a headache of paperwork and angsty managers at my door for quite some time.

Such a shame this is where we are.

It is a sad state of affairs, hc123, when even an innocent, “you look nice today”, can be construed as something other than a sincere compliment. This is where the politically-correct Gestapo have taken us and I detest it.

I believe that Anita Hill was treated in a way that would not be acceptable right now, in 2011. But I find things a bit crazy now. Some days it feels like a “who can be most offended” contest in America.

I was certainly angry with how both Anita Hill and  Clarence Thomas were treated during the show trials with (iirc) Joe Biden at the helm.

Those trials were disgusting and should have happened behind closed doors or in some other forum. It was like Congress 90210, an absolutely vile display.

That said I was just watching Police Academy 2 (I think), circa 1983 or so, and one of the main jokes was that someone had a female police partner.

The entire film they were putting little signs on her back  – “Girl Cop” or whatever.

    Times were very different.

    Good one.

I think he should refuse to talk about it any more–just say it’s not worthy of any more comments and there are more important things to discuss.  Amazing what Obama got away with just because the media refused to cover it.

  • BINKY

You can sure tell who the Obama administration/media are more afraid of, and it’s not Romney.

I agree, Ferd, I liked it when I was complimented at work.  There’s a difference between a kindness and friendly remark and sexual harrassment.  But true to form, PC has destroyed a lot of civility.

This Dr. was very focused on his patients, let the bookkeeper handle all of his money affairs. He was a very good Dr…but also very naive. Actually he was very good with children and old people because he seemed “simple”. I say “simple” in a good way. If you didn’t know he was a Dr.you might have thought he was Forest Gump.

But they never said a word when Bozo kissed every woman in sight and called them girls, sweetie, etc.

One summer I took some graduate courses at Cornell. The Prof in one 6 week psych class started off trying to get various girls in the class to allow him to hypnotize them. I told him no, no, and no, but one girl quit the class because she couldn’t stand the harassment… Some other girls may have gone one way or the other.
Never did it occur to me or others in the class that we could report the man. (I still think he was dangerous)

    ROFLMAO!!!

  • Scottymac54

    Finney’s comment was 100% correct.

As one “Cainaic” stated here, “he’s a real black”….

This is very much a “North/South” thing, particularly for Southern whites.

They see Northern blacks as uppity and Southern blacks as more along the lines of what they expect from blacks in general.  The politics and the policies (or lack thereof) don’t even enter into it.

I saw this immediately when favorable comments were made regarding Cain’s non-participation in the civil rights movement, and the explanation he offered up for it.

And this is what happens, IMHO, when people attempt to oversimplify their true feelings about race, rather than admit it is all very complicated.

  • Scottymac54

Nope.  They are doing their jobs.

  • Scottymac54

They are one in the same.  They serve the same interests, if not the same political priorities.

  • MassMaverick

Well, I see now that the Klan traded in their sheets and hoods for press credentials at the liberal media outlets. However they still are the Racial and Political enforcers for the Democrat party and Southern Republican establishment.

I’m a child of the 1950′s and 60′s. I lived through the southern voter registration and Civil Rights battles. This vicious attack on Mr. Cain is just more of the same thing a half century later. Mr. Cain is the modern progressive Republican’s and Democrat’s worst nightmare. I believe it would be poetic justice of Biblical proportions if Mr. Cain, a genuinely strong black man, can be the one to bring them down in flames.
