Domestic terrorist Bill Ayers on NPR’s Fresh Air

I just listened to an interview by Terry Gross of NPR titled, “Which Way The Wind Blows: Bill Ayers On Obama.” Ayers is the former anti-war activist and one-time fugitive leader of the Weatherman Underground organization of the 1960s and 70s.
As in other recent interviews, he denied having a very close relationship with Barack Obama but at the same time he states that the residents in his neighborhood are very friendly, get together in each others’ homes and “laugh about the inflated rhetoric of the 60s”. Tell me, Bill, do Barack and Michelle sit in on these pow-wows? He says that the ads that Senator McCain aired about Obama’s relationship with him and his past activities were lies. He says that it is a credit to the American people that the ads didn’t work. Then it is good that Americans elected a president who probably agrees with your past activities and may even have some dangerous agenda in store for all of us?
Ayers denies that the Weather Underground was a terrorist organization but that it was a militant one.
So explain this to me: How is bombing the Capitol Building, the Pentagon, the NYC Police Headquarters and a judge’s home NOT terrorism? His reasoning is that they didn’t hurt or kill anyone. He says the police officer killed in 1970 was not done by them. He goes on to explain that the bomb at the Pentagon was a small one set in a restroom. It knocked out a computer and held off the air war for a couple of days. It was intended to harm property, not people. Give me a break!! A bomb is a bomb is a bomb!! What if someone had been in that restroom at the time that the bomb went off? Or standing next to the computer that was hit? These actions, he states, were “Extreme acts of Vandalism”. Gosh, I must be naive. I thought vandalism was like painting graffiti on bridges or turning over outhouses, as kids in my younger days did. I wouldn’t have labeled setting bombs as vandalism. Now, mind you” 9-11 was terrorism pure and simple”. Whew! I was glad to hear that!!
Regarding the statement that he has made, “I feel we didn’t do enough” he says that he was misquoted by he NY Times. When Terry Gross stated that people call him an “unrepentant terrorist” he responded that he would “need something specific to apologies for”. What say all of you? Can YOU think of any specifics?
