The sheer gall of Joe Lieberman and the spinelessness of Senate Democrats know no bounds.

A recap. You remember Joe Lieberman. The man who “debated” Dick Cheney, a force of pure evil who has taken on human form – for the time being. The “debate”, if you remember, consisted of Lieberman agreeing with most of Cheney’s demented utterances and apologizing to his good friend Dick when they had a difference of opinion. The same Joe Lieberman who went so off message during the Florida recount in 2000 that he may have singlehandedly derailed Gore’s election. The same Joe Lieberman who now has an (I) after his name instead of (D), because the Democratic voters of Connecticut couldn’t take his bullshit anymore and voted for Ned Lamont during the primary. The same Joe Lieberman who’s made himself a bore, a scold and a self-styled moralist. Joe Lieberman, who possesses negative charisma, who has no constituency to speak of.

So despite the fact that Joe Lieberman publicly stumped for McCain in this past presidential campaign cycle, the Democrats gathered to guage what his punishment should be and decided – that he should keep his committee assignment.

And when he was asked by the press to justify his behavior, his response was that he hadn’t actually said the things about Obama he was taped and filmed saying, and anyway it’s time to move on.

The Democrats should kick Lieberman out of the sandbox just for being such a self-riteous tool. And please try to refrain from flooding the comment section with “blah blah blah McCain blah blah blah Obama blah blah”. Think about the totality of this irritating man’s career and the damage he did to Bill and Hillary Clinton and Al Gore. Wouldn’t this be the perfect time to throw this fool out on his ear?

Hope springs eternal yet is eternally dashed.

    I for one was happy when Joe turned on Obama. The Dems didn’t allow him to keep his chair out of the goodness of their little bitty hearts. They kept him because they didn’t want him to start voting with the Republicans.

    The Repubs and Dems are playing a political chess game now and it gives me a headache trying to figure their moves out.

    I love Joe Lieberman for supporting McCain. The Democratic Party is a JOKE. Who gives a damn what those CRIMINALS think? I hope the DNC is totally dismantled, destroyed and rebuilt. Joe Lieberman? We have bigger problems. But I do suggest a massive DOUCHE of the losers at the DNC. Lieberman did the right thing for AMERICA. He supported the RIGHT CANDIDATE. How can I rail on him.

    And, yes, this is blah blah blah about McCain. Sorry. It’s the TRUTH.

      DCMedia, I read your post and disagreed that Lieberman barely has a constituency. While he may have lost the Democratic slot in the CT primary, clearly the CT voters liked this guy enough to vote for him when he ran as an Independent since he still has his seat. I think he’s proven he has a large constituency in his state and I don’t think anyone should underestimate him. Frankly, I disliked him as Gore’s choice as he didn’t bring all that much to the table. But now: well I love the man for supporting McCain. And frankly, it’s many of the Democrats who shouldn’t just be kicked out of the sandbox, they should be kicked into prison. I’d like to start with Chris Dodd and his Countrywide loans. Then I’d like to investigate Frank and see if he really has a boyfriend working at Fannie Mae, and if he does do an ethics probe on him. My list is endless at this time and consists of mainly Democrats. My Party has totally disillushioned me…

    Lamont got DEMOCRATs…Independents, uncommitted and centrists (Dems and Reps) voted for Lieberman when he went Independent.

      Check your facts. If the democratic voters in Ct had voted for Lamont, Lamont would be the Senator. I live here, this is a democratic state. It was the party that tried to kick Joe Lieberman to the curb, the voters thought differently.

      I agree with Ct girl and snickers, supporting McCain was the thoughtful choice between Obama and McCain. Dodd is the one that should be in question, he still refuses to release those mortgage papers. Dodd is just as embarrassing for the state as his father was.

        Since we both reside in CT, you must know that CT has a respectable number of registered Independents and uncommitted (see stats below), and if you followed the election, you must know that Lieberman received 70% of the Republican registered votes. The final election result was Lieberman 50%, Lamont 40%, Schlesinger 10%.

        And, you are incorrect in calling Connecticut a “Democratic” state, the correct term would be a liberal state.

        CT 2008 stats:
        Registered Dems: 750,999
        Registered Reps: 418,531
        Registered Uncommitted: 845,311

        I totally agree that the Democratic Party targeted Lieberman in Conneticut. It wasn’t some grass roots movement of Dems that denied him the nomination. Pfft. After the Democratic Party targeted him by supporting Lamont? He owes the Democrats nothing.

      Lieberman received support from 33% of Democrats, 54% of Independents, and 70% of Republicans.

      He won re-election with 50% of the vote. Ned Lamont garnered 40% of ballots cast and Alan Schlesinger won 1o%.

    Don’t know why “it’s time to pick on Lieberman,” but I must be missing something as recent days also revealed an animosity toward McCain in several NoQuarter columns. Well, I was surprised to read what you wrote and went over to Wikipedia to take a quick look at Lieberman’s record. It’s quite a mixed bag. If his voting record is any indication, the guy really is an independent. But I guess in some quarters, it’s “time to root him out.” I don’t feel that way. I never had much love/hate for Lieberman and I thought Gore’s pick of Lieberman in 2000 was an embarrassing grab for the Jewish vote. I thought Gore showed a complete lack of imagination in that campaign by avoiding a running mate who could be more exciting than his own bland self (a la Palin). Gore/Lieberman ran as “fuddy and duddy” in my eyes and as a Democrat, I found myself wishing for something else. (I guess that’s why we got Obambi this year.) I also thought Gore’s avoidance of campaigning with Clinton was the dumbest thing he did and the real cause of his loss. This column just doesn’t ring right. Sorry.

    I have nothing but tons of respect for Joe Lieberman. He crossed the aisle to support the candidate he thought was best for our country. He truly is bipartisan.

    What Joe Lieberman has done demands some sort of retribution. But the Democrats are too spineless to do anything.
    When the Repubs had majorities the excuse was, “What can we do were in the minority”.
    After the 2006 elections when the Dems got a majority in the house and a coalition majority in the Senate the excuse was, “We don’t have enough votes to over ride a veto”.
    Now the excuse is “We don’t have a filibuster proof majority so we won’t do anything”.

        In a word, YES. That is why in July, 2006 after sending a six page letter to Pelosi, Reid, and Dean detailing my disgust with their behavuor and lack of morals and conviction, and having gotten no response from any of them I officially changed my registration from D to Independent.

    I might be a little late on this..

    Just 2% of voters who supported Barack Obama on Election Day obtained perfect or near-perfect scores on a post election test which gauged their knowledge of statements and scandals associated with…

    Only 54% of Obama voters were able to answer at least half or more of the questions correctly.

    How come I’m not surprised!!

Might I suggest we start thinking about what is about to happen to us, our children, our country, etc. under the rule of OCastro? I don’t give a rat’s ass if McCain didn’t please the nutty liberals and run through the streets defending Palin. I don’t give a damn if Lieberman said he loved his country enough to support a REPUBLICAN. I care that OVomit is stopped in his tracks from destroying America.     As far as Lieberman–I can’t stand him. I admit that I enjoyed watching him campaign for Mac but the guy’s a twit and makes me crazy. BIG war supporter.

    I heard some stupid commentators on The Lehrer Newshour about how Obama wants to work across the aisle–pure bs–he kept Joe because he wants him to vote with the Dems. Do they think we’re so dumb we’ll buy anything they say? Oh, I guess they have proof that we will.

    I am glad to see that there are many others who disagree with the post and who support Lieberman. He is one of my few respected politicians, and has been for many years now. He is a great statesman who truly stands for principle and not party. We would be better served to have more people like him representing us. (As well as more voters who can stay focused and not get pulled in by the propoganda dividing people to the extremist positions, both right and left)

    Eh. The only thing I fault Lieberman for is his self-righteous calling out of Clinton during Monica-Gate. He wasn’t a great running mate for Gore but he’s hardly the reason Gore lost. In fact I can’t really muster alot of sympathy for Gore since his pick of Lieberman was partly an attempt to distance himself from Clinton. Dumb move on his part.

    RE: Lieberman’s CT Senate Race
    The Democratic Party leadership treated Lieberman like crap in CT by supporting his rival instead of him. Frankly, Lieberman owes the Dems nothing. They betrayed Lieberman before Lieberman ever betrayed them. The idea there was some kind of grassroots movement in CT to unseat him was bullshit. Unseating Lieberman was a goal of the rabid anti-war element of the party and they received plenty of money from the DNC to do it. I LOVE that he ruined their plans by winning as an Independent.

    Lastly, it’s clear the majority of Dem Senators disagree with their partisan hack leader Reid, the loony partisan left (personified by the Daily Kossacks) and the writer of this post, because they voted to let him keep his seat. I’m actually kind of proud of them. They aren’t buying into the “us versus them” partisan bullshit their leaders and loony left supporters are selling. Obviously they think Lieberman can still contribute.

    One more thing: I think it’s hilarious how unhinged lefty partisan Dems became over Lieberman’s support of McCain. This from the same people that think nothing of stabbing the Clintons in the back. Please. The hypocrisy of these asses never ceases to amaze me.

    I love Joe Lieberman. He is a man of principle. No one should have to march in lockstep with the party. Period.

    In reality, the Republicans gave McCain the same treatment the Democrats give Lieberman, saying he wasn’t a REAL Republican.

    This way lies insanity and the death of our nation – if we cannot get past this strange partisan stranglehold, the death grip of PC politics, then our representatives need not even bother to go to work, If we know how they are going to vote (party lines) all they have to do is be elected, and we can fill in the yea nay columns without even needing to hear from them.

    Is that what we really want? representatives whose salaries we are paying spending their time ‘caucusing’ with the party to decide how to block the other side on every budget decision? On every bill? On every appointment?

    It has to end.

    Lieberman was once good enough to be the VP nominee of the Democratic party, a heartbeat away from the Presidency had they won. he should be honored and not disrespected just because he stands up for defending our country. And us.

    He’s not perfect but I’ll take him any day over most.
