http://www.dlt.ri.gov/lmi/laus/us/usadj.htm you wanna argue those numbers? How about we talk about the carryover in presidential policies as well? Obama's policies didn't begin going into effect until around half a year after Bush was done so we'll say July of 2009. At that point the unemployment rate was 9.5%, we can't blame him for what it was when he immediately took office because his policies weren't even in effect yet. Well we can blame him it is just unfair and a false accusation, but that doesn't stop you and faux!

Oh and since january 2008 (the year and a half before Obama's policies) the unemployment rate rose a whopping 4.5%!!!! By October 2009, so within a few months of his policies taking effect, the unemployment rate reached its max at 10% and it has been going down since. I think that's a pretty miraculous turnaround.

The rate is 8.3% now, that's 1.2% lower than when his policies started taking effect.

Stop spreading the propoganda that you believe to be truth, if you were to research a little you'd realize you're the one being mislead.

LJ, I vote for the later, "abducted by Martians".

Of the humans that left the labor pool, the PA says you gave no reason as to why 5,674,000 souls vanished from the rolls.

Here is another "toid" for the board.
<blockquote>
There are 1.4 million "very long-term unemployed" who have been out of work for 99 weeks or longer, according to a new report from the Congressional Research Service.
Ninety-nine weeks is a milestone for the jobless because that's the limit for unemployment benefits (though 99 weeks are not available in all states). Beyond that point, the jobless aren't eligible for much help besides food stamps and charity. The job market for anyone out of work that long is downright hostile. </blockquote> and I even quoted Huffpo, so PA could swallow it.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/24/crs-report-99-weeks-unemployed_n_813182.html

I'm thinking that you might suffer from something that I see quite often with people - they don't understand the math that they are being presented with. This is very similar to those who say that Warren Buffet's secretary pays twice as much in taxes as Warren does. I note there are several ways for this to be misunderstood.
1) Some people don't understand that there is a different rate for capital gains than there is for earned income.
2) Some people don't understand that Warren Buffet actually would pay much more than his secretary in dollars -- it is just the per cent of his earnings that he pays in federal taxes that may be lower.
3) The average tax payer actually does pay a lower per cent of his income in federal taxes than even Warren Buffet. This is because most people do not pay the rate that is prescribed for their income level because of deductions, etc. Their actual rate is much lower when all is said and done.
4) In order for Warren Buffet's secretary to pay 25% of her income in federal taxes, she probably has to be making a pretty large amount of money - probably somewhere in the range of $250,000 or more.

Similarly, I'm thinking that you don't understand that when you remove the discouraged worker from the equation, the numbers change, so that saying that the unemployment numbers are around 8.6% means nothing unless you understand that there's another several percentage points that are missing. Also, we are not losing people due to retirement. In order to keep the rate the same, we would have to be adding 150000-200000 jobs or so each month in order to keep our noses above the water. In order to reduce the rate, the numbers would have to be much higher.

I think there's a reason that most of the people who support Obama and think he's doing a good job also tend to be people who do not have hard science or mathematics in their backgrounds. They are easily fooled by the spin on numbers that we are fed every day by those who know that the majority have no idea what they're talking about.

And I would add - fast and furious, the racist Justice Department, all the green energy money that has been poured into businesses that are failing, demonization of all who don't agree with his tactics as "teabaggers" and racists, disregarding his sworn duty to uphold the law of the land (try helping Arizona rather than suing them, Mr. Obama!, and if you don't like DOMA, work to get legislation through that negates it, rather than just deciding you won't enforce it!), treating the Constitution like toilet paper, racking up debt at high speed, criticizing the do-nothing Congress while he parties, golfs and vacations the days away......

Come on people I would expect a higher lever of conversation on here. LJ goes out of his way to post a comment about my comment. I come back with several meaningful rebuttals and all I get from LJ is some BS about what I did not say. He throws out some numbers that make no sense and just hang-out there with no context. Not one single person on here including LJ actually address the issues or point I raise with any substance. Just a bunch of lameass juvenile personal attacks. What are you afraid of? A real debate? Good luck with that come November.

Again, if anyone can dispute the fact that the economy has a pretty good turnaround since 2009 I would like to hear it? So far nobody including LJ has made any kind of an argument to dispute that. This will be the key question come 2012.

And if LJ only qualifier to whether the economy has turned around in only 3 years is that the employment level needs to get back to 142 millon then great. It was 140 million in December. If we do 200,000 job adds a month through 2012, then that will put us at, wait, 142.4 million. 200,000 a month is very achieveable, particularly when job growth has been accelerating recents, as 2011 was the biggest job creation year since 2005. That would be a heck of a turnaround in a pretty short period of time, given the depth of this recession. What are you going to argue then LJ?

They got it right. He's the kiss of death. He could easily be removed constitutionally from office once the penny drops that he is rooting for thermonuclear World War Three. However unpatriotic Congress and or members of the Cabinet may be, realizing that they are looking at the end of civilization and mankind as we know it is what they're having for breakfast tomorrow morning, then the alternative will suddenly become very attractive.
We have to have a really ambitious plan for the future, a nuclear fusion future, a future that encompasses the global defense system envisioned by Putin based on the Defense Shield proposed by Reagan but never implemented, and the development of water and environmental management by reviving the NAWAPA plan devised under JFK and opening up the Arctic and Antarctic regions with domed cities and mining facilities for the mineral resources we need, which will teach us how to construct colonies on other planets, starting with the Moon and then from there launching a manned mission to Mars. We have to increase the energy flux density of our power supply so we can support the seven billion people we now have and growing numbers, because we will need every hand on deck to get our economy going. We have to do the right thing, reinstate Glass Steagall, shut down the gambling banks, have Congress utter credit at low interest rates for projects that will stretch far into the future, up to several generations time, and the return will not be another vacations home for Jamie Dimon but it will be for the creative ability of the human species to be unleashed and make the transition from being earthbound to the fulfillment of the extraterrestrial
imperative.
When it was said that the world wasn't flat some people were not able to
deal with the idea, yet we managed to adjust to the idea of the planet
being round, so we will adjust to being able to deal with the Universe as
our future environment not just as a backdrop.
It is essential that we rise to the occasion and start using our creative
natures to create instruments that enable us to see further than the end of
our noses. Kennedy had the courage to get American astronauts to the
moon, and ever since was regarded as a threat to the oligarchs, he and his
brother were asassinated in a heart beat. We have to regain momentum and
leave these unpatriotic fearful losers to their own fate and get on with
what we were created to be, in the image of God. God is certainly not
stuck in an office on Wall Street, looking at a computer screen and
devising another exotic financial instrument, or to put it less politely
another crooked scheme to suck more money out of the veins of the useless
eaters. Next time you have dinner with your friends
you can tell them about all this wonderful stuff and see if they can
still believe in miracles.

what we were created to be, in the image of God.

PA: "In December 2009 there was only 137,953,000 people employed and today there is, as you say 140 million."

PA: "Obama policies has put people back to work and has improved the labor picture."

If nothing else, PA, you've proven that you're not a "paid professional troller."

A pro wouldn't leave a trail of distracting grammatical howlers.

Gotta keep the suckers on message, PA, not pointing and laughing at your 5th grade education.

Larry-I know you are open to all points of view, but PA is annoying as hell because he refuses to open his eyes. Can we please vote him off the Island?

The other night I went to a dinner party with folks I've known for years, and absolutely NO one believes Barky has done a good job.

Some outright claim we have a problem, and the Dems have to find a way to boot the whole gang out of there, before the Democratic Party is discredited for generations (too late....)

Others honestly believe he inherited the WHOLE megillah, but nobody's claiming that he's actually competent or has the skills necessary to rise to these challenges.

The only place I see anyone completely defending him and in the tank here are these few commenters here, and on another blog I frequent.
