Easy! How to log in to add your comments! [Update!]

Updates: At the end of this post I am listing some simple HTML tags you can use for boldface, italics, indenting quotations, etc. SEE ALSO: Info on cookie settings that should enable you to overcome any problems you may have posting comments.

At the end of each blog post, you’ll find a comment box just like this. If you’re not logged in, you will see Login in the upper right corner. Click Login.

When you click Login, the pop-up window below will appear. You can create a new user account with Disqus, the software that NoQuarterUSA uses for comments. HOWEVER, if you already have accounts with any of the programs listed on the left — Facebook, OpenID, etc. — simply click that program and log in.

(NOTE TOO that your comment at NoQuarter can also appear at Facebook, a terrific way to broaden the discussion and bring in your Facebook friends.)

This is unlikely, but if none of the above works for you, set up a Disqus account and be sure to save your username and password.

Lastly, this image is an example of what you will see if you have a Facebook account, and you opt to use your Facebook account to make a comment at NoQuarterUSA.

IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE LOGGING IN: Go to this page at the Disqus FAQ. There, you can check your browser settings.

Here are a few simple HTML tag sets that you can use to spice up your comments. The one thing you need to know about HTML is that there is always 1) an opening tag, and 2) a closing tag. Just make sure you insert both, and all will go well.

Clear enough.  But where is the agreement to not spam NoQuarterUSA with inane comments, insults, etc.?

    • Anonymous

Matthew in the ideal world an agreement among honorable parties would be enough to stop the “inane comments, insults, etc.” But short of conducting extensive back round checks, there is no way to police this issue and make sure that all those who comment on this blog are who they say they are. Or for that matter there is nothing that prevents a person to have several pseudonyms (as I suspect several of our comment posters may have).

Having said that this blog, compared to other I have seen, is pretty good in regard to having minimal insults ect.

Yes, you are so right about all that. Still, doesn’t hurt to be wishful for and appreciative of good conversation.

How I wish it were so, Matthew.  It is what drove Larry to require e-mail registration — making it yet one more chore for an already very, very busy man.  But, since the idiots out there can’t control themselves … sigh.

Me too. Maybe after the election. This ones going to be nasty. So wear your hip boots.

Okay. What’s with the turorial? Are people having a problem commenting?

    • Anonymous

Yes.  We’re getting LOTS of reports of people who cannot log in.

      So …

        Just wondering.

I have no problem commenting but do have a problem with identity theft. Not that someone else is using mine, who would want to, but with my avatar and name disappearing from time to time. I then have to arm wrestle disquis for what seems like hours to get them back.

Other times just when I complain about my identity disappearing they suddenly re-appear and I sound like a nitwit.

Oh well, I find NQ and my chance to comment my 2 cents worth, worth it.

What we need is a tutorial on using bold, italic, indented, or other format stuff.

    • Anonymous

Will do.  I’ll just append it to this post right now.  Far into the weeds of Disqus’s FAQ stuff is an explanation but it is not helpful unless one already knows HTML.

    • Anonymous

Done.  A short list, but it should suffice for now. Let me know if you want more code!

  • Anonymous

I had a bit of trouble figuring this out but finally figured it out slowly but surely. I wish I had your explanation when we first started the new policy. Thanks

    • Anonymous

I’m sorry about that.  I’d intended to … what can I say … thank you for persisting.

Some cheats on liking a comment.

    1) like a comment before you sign on (it will show as a guest like)

    2) then like the comment when you sign on ( it will show with your user name)

    3) If you are from Chicago, you can sign up your dead grandmother for a DISQUS account and like again.

For those who don’t understand my humor the above is intended as a joke.

Unless or until Facebook makes it’s privacy security policy VERY clear I will have nothing to do with them. Same for Google and Twitter.

At least the government has made it clear that we have no reasonable expectation of privacy. I’m back in the USSR.
