Unkept Promises and Outright Lies (& open thread)

* Bumped Up *

Obama is or should be a disappointment to his most ardent Kool-Aid drinking supporters. He came to office with a long list of promises. Nearly four years later, few were kept.

The more pragmatic and cynical among us might simply dismiss his unkept promises as lies. A fine line divides a promise from a lie and is, to be sure, often subjective. Intent may offer clarity. Was the promise made knowing it could never be honored? Worse, that it would never be honored.

What are, in your personal opinion, the top five promises and top five lies Obama made to get into office, made during his presidency, or made in pursuit of re-election? Please include location, source, and date of the promise or lie.

A few thoughts about this morning’s talk shows.

I watched Ryan on This Week. He seemed much too much like a robot spouting talking points. If the campaign has decided that this is his role then at the very least allow him to inject his personality into the discussion.

Any Sunday show that contains less than 15 minutes devoted to a guest and the rest of the show filled with obviously biased commentators is bound to be the least informing. Despite that, I did learn a few things. The Dims are going to continue this Obama personally intervened in the technical glitch that kept God and Jerusalem out of the platform meme. Total bullshit. The only effective counter is to show, over and over, the floor delegates resoundingly voting against it. And the BOOS when it was announced they had been placed back in. Sorta shoots to hell the notion that this was some technical glitch or oversight.

Cookie Roberts pointed out that they went overboard with abortion. This was quickly shot down by Booker. Again, a man trying to tell a woman what was right for her to think. And about abortion of all things. To Cookie Roberts, fer Chrissakes. Talk about stepping in a pile of donkey shit.

The general assumption that people don’t care that the jobs numbers are bad was of course played out. Like, you know, Americans don’t care about such things. It’s amazing how out of touch these Dims are. They apparently think they can program the rest of us to ignore what they think we shouldn’t care about. Just replace it it with Abortion and Gay marriage and everything will be all right. And have another glass of Kool-Aid. You look parched.

I actually watched Meet Depressed, aka Meet the lying Obot assholes who don’t know the first thing about actual journalism.

The questions by Gregory were expected, but one thing stood out more than any other. If any of you have any doubts whatsoever that Mitt can seal the deal, listen to the last few minutes of his response with Gregory. Authentic, Passionate and Right to the Heart of the Matter. We need to see more of this guy.

Although I thought the Dem convention was a disaster, it doesn’t seem like maybe other Americans agree. The MSM way out performed audience share over Fox—Fox was almost at the bottom of the media share reports; NBC at the top. The audience declined for the last night—which is the most helpful sign but apparently O did get a bounce. He is leading, ever so slightly, in just about every swing state. This is hard for me to understand because to me the failure of O is so patent that I can not imagine why anyone would vote for this fool. But then I thought this in 2008 and joined many of you here at that time as a Dem Dropout aghast at the Dem promotion and distortion of any rules that selected O over Hillary. I just do not get this. Romney is such a better choice when you compare him to O it is just amazing. But then, the same was true of Hillary. What do you all think of this?

  • http://lesstalkmoreactivism.blogspot.com/ Canaan

    5. During the primary, Obama attacked the individual mandate in Hillary’s healthcare plan. He then included the individual mandate in Obamacare.

    4. Obamacare won’t add to the deficit. Hahahahahaha.

    3. “We need a different kind of politics.” Hahahahahaha.

    2. “There are no red states. There are no blue states. There are only the United States.” (2004 convention speech). This is of course true. But out of Obama’s mouth, it is a lie because he personally doesn’t believe a word of it. Obama is the most divisive President I’ve seen, more divisive than W. Bush.

With his ‘bitter, clinging’ slur, he insulted the religion of millions of Americans, and virtually called the Tea Party demographic ‘white trash.’ “Typical white person” is the most flagrantly racist statement I’ve ever heard from a Presidential candidate. He tried to turn ‘Arizona’ into a dirty word. He thrives on the race victim neurosis that plagues blacks. He deliberately inflamed that victim neurosis to slander the Clintons as racists. To Obama, raging victim neurosis such as seen in Rev. Wright’s church is a political goldmine. For political gain, Obama rubs salt into the psychological wounds, both real and imaginary, of blacks.

    1. “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Jan 21, 2009. It is the President’s duty to execute laws passed by Congress. Obama refuses to execute federal immigration law.

  • HObama HObamanana

This point needs to be made before anyone becomes dispirited about the latest snapshot polls and other pro-Obama garbage coming from the media. It is obvious to anyone with a brain that the Dims screwed up royally at their Convention by leaving God and Jerusalem out of their platform. Then they screwed up even more by having a public vote with an astounding amount of very loud NO votes to restore them. Then Obama’s speech sucked. And the August jobs numbers sucked even worse.

The Dims might be idiots but they aren’t stupid. They know that they stepped in some very deep donkey shit and are in serious trouble. So it should be no big surprise that they will enlist their media allies to double, even triple down on the bamboozling, attempting to minimize what happened and to change the subject. But fear not. The donkey shit will hit the fan. And we will all have a great laugh. All the way to the voting booths.

Figures… After Cutting Ad Attacking Romney as “Birther-in-Chief” – Obama Cracks Birther Joke

Do you remember when Mitt Romney cracked a joke in Michigan about not being asked about his birth certificate?

The Obama Campaign made an ad out of it. They called him a Birther-in-Chief.

    Topics for open thread:

    (1) I hate the excuse on people that ran out of unemployment benefits as having left the labor force. Once a person runs out of unemployment benefits they have no need to go to the unemployment office while looking for work. It does not mean they quit looking for work. It is deceptive to no longer count them.

    (2) The meme that there are jobs that Americans won’t do. No, Americans simply demand legal and competitive wages. Pay enough, we’ll do anything.

    • HObama HObamanana

They have no way of measuring what people do when they can’t track them. And besides, if they are unemployed, doesn’t that imply that they have left the labor force, albeit not of their choosing?

      • http://www.theindependentview.com/ Matthew J. Weaver

Sure, they are unemployed but to go further and remove them from the equation gives a false conclusion on the unemployment rate. As they are of working age, barring proof that they are no longer looking or interested in work (e.g., they won the lottery), they should be counted.

        • HObama HObamanana

We are actually in agreement here. I only pointed out that the factors they use to measure such things are flawed to begin with.

Here’s an Article entitled “GOP ticket has Nothing to Offer on Economy”
byt the NYT. The opening sentence is…

Coming two months before Election Day, the employment report for August is a problem for President Obama.

If the Opinion editorials of the NYT are this wacky the job numbers are not the only thing BO should be worried about.

GOP senators ask panetta to make sure troops can vote

    • HObama HObamanana

      From the article:

But Pam Mitchell, the acting director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program at the Pentagon, said they were using outdated contact information.

It does not mention whether or not she provided this updated contact information. Seems like sloppy or incompetent reporting.

      • KenoshaMarge

Funny how the left, and their lapdog media make a fuss about people having to provide identification to vote, after all minorities and us seniors are obviously too stupid to do that, but don’t give a rat’s ass about their being a problem for members of the military.

Could it be that the military might just be a tad more apt to vote for Romney/Ryan than Obama/Biden?

Once again the media by remaining silent, or being complicit are betraying their country and their profession.

        • HObama HObamanana

I think we will find out early this week what is really going on. If there is any evidence that Obama is attempting to suppress the military vote expect a major backlash.

  • TriciaX

I recall during he debates that Obama said he would never have any lobbyists around. Of course, the White House is crawling with them. But here’s the thing. Hillary KNEW that was an impossible promise, so when she was aked if lobbyists would be allowed in the White House she told the truth–that they are here to stay (and not necessarily all bad). People thought she was the BAD guy with that answer–lie v. truth. Hillary knew what the job would be, and, sadly, that hurt her.

  • Garookie

I’d like to clarify my position. I’m not a totally convinced birther and I know that Larry doesn’t want to go there, but there’s just too much info out there that should make everybody suspicious of this piece of crap president. The other day I came across another bit of data where Pelosi (when nominating Obama) deliberately ommitted the phrase – “are legally qualified to serve under the provisions of the United States Constitution.”
This was not an error of ommission. She produced two nomination letters on the same day. One was sent to Hawaii which included the phrase, the other letter was sent to ALL 49 other states WITHOUTthat statement.
Why did she send a different one to Hawaii? Was it to reassure them that they did not have to vet him, therefore negating any inquiery into his eligibility or real place of birth.
Even the DNC’s own lawyer advised against him being nominated. For a full story go to: http://www.libertynewsonline.com/article_301_32214.php (A Question of Eligibility)

    • HObama HObamanana

No one here really cares where Obama was born. And no one in the country should either. All that is important is that we vote him out of office. Diverting attention away from that task is an obstacle to achieving it.

      • http://www.theindependentview.com/ Matthew J. Weaver

I, for one, do care and anguish that it has become a distraction from the more serious questions about Obama’s background that have never been answered or disclosed. First, with a Kenyan father, Obama is not a natural born citizen and was never constitutionally eligible to be president. Second, he was adopted and representated as an Indonesian citizen, even adopting his stepfather’s name. Third, undisputed reports state that he got his first U.S. passport in 2004 after joining the Senate. Thrid, some reports suggest that Obama denied his U.S. citizenship and instead attended school as a foreign student. Finally, under which country’s passport did he travel as an adult to Pakistan and Indonesia? Obama should be challenged to unequivically acknowledge or disprove these concerns over his citizenship, his loyalty to the U.S., and his eligibility to even hold the office of president.

        • HObama HObamanana

If you even make the attempt to do so you will be labeled a nut case and it will only give Obama a boost. Just look what they tried to do with the Romney joke. I’ve had concerns about Obama since he arrived on the national scene but at this point, in the position he holds, such matters are irrelevant regardless of how suspicious of his authenticity one is. An “undisputed report” only means that you accuse someone of something and they don’t respond to affirm or deny your assertions. It has no intrinsic value in itself. I don’t doubt the validity of your concerns. But I don’t believe, even a little, that such an avenue of examination or attack would lead to anything that will help to defeat him on November 6th. If you, and others, would like to give it all you got once he is out of office and are successful at exposing him for the fraud his is, more power to you.

          • TeakWoodKite

I agree with Matthew. I also agree with you, yet the point that Mathew is making is one of Constitutional transparency. Expediancy got us Bush and Obama. If for the sake of arguement, as a legal matter this is true, that Obama is not qualified under US Constitution, Article II, Section 1 then what would you say? I say he is unqualified under the the 25th as well and know that leaga standing will only be achieved at the polling place. I will cast my verdict as ney.

            • HObama HObamanana

I say that we have less than two months until the election when send him packing. If we impeach him, Biden becomes President until January 21, 2013.

              • http://www.theindependentview.com/ Matthew J. Weaver

Personally, I’ve always figured Biden would be better than Obama. Seriously, if you had to simply pick between Obama and Biden, are you saying you’d pick Obama?!

                • HObama HObamanana

Nope. I just think it is all a big waste of time. And with Obama, in the position he holds, with the media circling the wagons around him, it’s a no win strategy. The time to have done something about this during his presidency has long past. To try doing it now is a waste of time and a distraction. Once he is out of office go for it.

              • CathyInKs

I also agree there’s a lot to be suspicious of but at this point, it will only help Obama. However, if Obama does win re-election which I sincerely hope he doesn’t then go after him with all the “birther” material! I’ll be honest, if it comes down to Biden vs. Obama, I’d rather have Biden! He sticks his foot in his mouth but when the chips are down he still loves this country and he does have “experience”. Obama – I doubt his love of this country and his experience so far seems to be in “absentia”.

          • getfitnow

I agree with both of you. He needs to be exposed, and at this point, realistically, I hope it all comes out when he’s out.

And something tells me it will. When you see the books, movies and articles that are out there now, that never would have seen the light of day 2 years ago; when you hear about his relationship with staff and Congress–I think when this chump is out of office a lot of lips will begin to flap. Clint Eastwood will be proven right again–this guy is the biggest hoax…

          • Garookie

HObama HObamanana: I understand your position on this but I realy think you should check out the link to libertynewsonline.com. In it the DNC’s own lawyer stated that they CANNOT ASSUME that he was qualified. Remember, even Galileo was called a heretic and nut for his beliefs so to be labelled as crazy by Obama’s minions is almost a badge of honor.
Another point is, even when he’s defeated, not only does he have a pension for life and secret service protection, he gets to strut around like Mussolini and make more money off the backs of true Americans. He should be thoroughly vetted, impeached and imprisoned for the hoax that he’s perpetrated against us, I think Pelosi should be the target of any investigation, she’s the one that promoted him and I’m sure she will crumble before he does.

            • HObama HObamanana

I understand your position as well. I just don’t think that such efforts lead to a Romney win in November. And as I have stated previously, any such actions against Obama would have been better commenced years ago, not less than two months before the election.

I know there is no way you could be aware of this but I was quite aware of many of questions about Obama that are just now beginning to see the light of day in the mainstream. And I worked to expose him before doing so became fashionable and lucrative.

Sometimes justice is the best revenge. And in this case, justice is assuring that Romney is our next President.

              • CathyInKs

Agree HObama! We can start to turn the country around and stop the downward spiral by ensuring Romney/Ryan are elected in November. The country needs to be saved first!

In general, I believe that Democrats think its in their job description to LIE ! They feel it is necessary to keep the plantation running smoothly. God forbid, that anyone they deem needs them in their life should attempt to think for themselves, and leave the Democtat plantation. Democrats have to keep the uneducated and poor thinking that Republicians will stop their free money, or they will completely lose their base. This is what the Democrat party has come to.

For anyone who was willing to regard him objectively, there was little if anything in his previous experience to recommend him for such an important job.
