“Israeli Defense Chief Says Iran Postponed Nuclear Ambitions” – NY Times

W. Patrick Lang, Larry Johnson’s mentor, writes for his blog as well as Civil War novels (including spy operations in the 19th century) you’ll want to check out.

"Asked why Iran would have decided on such a conversion, Patrick Lang - Image of Iran's FlagMr. Barak said it might have taken Israeli and American warnings seriously, might have wished to delay a confrontation with Israel until after the American presidential elections, or might have been seeking to convince the agency of the sincerity of its peaceful intent.
Iran has consistently denied it intends to build a nuclear weapon and has denounced Israel’s assertions as warmongering."  NY Times

The Israeli/AIPAC insistence that MAD will not work against Iran has been based on the notion that the Iranian leadership is made up of religiously fanatic madmen who seek martyrdom for their country and who do not think logically.  Both the Iranian action in this instance and the Israeli acceptance of it deny the reality of the Israeli/AIPAC opinion. – Patrick Lang

Hey Pat, why don’t you tell Larry, your protege, he’s utterly full of shit abou Benghazi as you’ve written about all the Benghazi bangers on your blog?

    • Popsmoke

Talk about being full of shit? How’s the cool aid doing? Need any ice?

      • Dbb3

Yeah, we’ll sample this “cool aid” from Pat Lang’s blog:

‘It is being said over and over again that the Obama Administration deliberately obfuscated what happened in the attack on the consulate in Benghazi. Day by day a trickle of old e-mails, partial early reports and developing assessments are hailed as “proof’ that something shameful happened and is happening in the US Government, something hidden.

The truth is that early reports and judgments of traumatic, sudden events like this are usually incorrect and need to be developed and “straightened out” with the passage of time and completed investigations.

Complicating the situation in Benghazi was the location there of a CIA base covered as other than that. These people were working on the very problems that eventually resulted in the attack and the deaths. Not surprisingly, the CIA has not been desirous of the revelation of the presence and status of its employees and so the declarations to the press have not been accurate in that regard.

None of this matters to the “Friends of Trump” 1% crowd who will build any kind of sandcastle that they can that might influence a few more cretins in the battleground states to act out their racism in the polling booth.

The media is cooperating in this psywar campaign. Does this mean that they have decided Romney will win? pl’

You know, I took you to be one of NQ’s less dim posters, more of an equal opportunity cynic instead
of a rabid blindly partisan Obama basher. Guess I was mistaken.

        • Popsmoke

Partisan? Me? Boohaaaa! Its not the response I take issue with. Actually I happen to agree with Pat on that issue. BUT and there is always a but… My issue is the screwed up policy we have currently in the ME and the especially with this so-called Arab Spring. That my cool aid drinking friend is worse than all the hubbub about response.
Now you seem to be rather intelligent as well. But there is not one post where you are critical of Obama on any issue. Either your so hooked on cool aid or I was wrong regarding your intelligence. So which is it?

      • TeakWoodKite

        I thought about it… naw I passed. Bot’s…

  • exmaple

Ah, c’mon. Barak trying to help Barack. Big Fail, and the hurricane stomped attention to this fake Obama success. Barak is one of those Israelis obsessed with the idea Obama, despite everything else, “has their back,” and wants to help him.

AIPAC? What about the Saudis and Qataris and…oh wait, they don’t count. It’s all about the joooooos and their secret powers over government. Epic crank fail. Nothing excites the racists as much as the idea of nuking Israel and dead Jews.

    • Popsmoke

      What a mormon….

  • JohnnyTwoDog

    “Postponed nuclear ambitions”

Well that settles that issue beyound any doubt whatsoever. I can’t think of a more strongly worded statement much less an action that would allow anyone to think Iran has given up on nukes.

I fully expect the Oceans to stop rising any minute.

  • akaPatience

Yawn. Consider the source and the publisher… another attempt at an October Surprise since last week’s failed.

    • Popsmoke

Another Einstein…. remember now the right shoe goes on the right foot and the left shoe goes ….

  • TeakWoodKite

Does anyone believe for a second that Iran is not working to having nukes?…

All due respect to Patrick Lang, but at somepoint in the not so distance future “denying” the reality that Iran is very much intent on achieving this goal and it is not a possibility is short sighted.
I am in no way saying Patrick Lang is wrong. I just think it’s not something to ignore. They want Obama re-elected and understand that making waves is not a wise move as Obama would have to “deny” Iran wasn’t up to anything and make him look weaker than he already is.
    Just a novice’s kite’s opinion

    • HObama HObamanana

I’m in the same camp as you are on this one. I don’t believe for a moment that Iran has stopped their nuclear project. I do believe that they may have finally faked a few people that really should know better into believing this nonsense though.

      • BronwynsHarbor

I tend to agree with you and Teak. Several years ago, Pat and Larry co-authored an article for a periodical … I remember that Kissinger was on the board, or something like that. I will try to dig out their article. It is long but very much worth a read. They considered ALL the possible scenarios as well as potential U.S./Israeli actions and what Iran might do. I seem to recall that they sensed there wasn’t much we could do to stop Iran from building the bomb.

And, of course, if Obama is elected — that tight poll today? — well, we shall see, won’t we. Romney may be faced with a similar dilemma. It is so damn complicated — Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia … will there be a weapons race in the Middle East? The Saudis have the money. But do they have the ambition and fervor that the Iranians have?

        • Popsmoke

          Very complex….

        • TeakWoodKite

“will there be a weapons race in the Middle East?”
It is happening as we speak.

        • TeakWoodKite

I would like to read the article you spoke of.
If you can recall where it was published…I’ll do the leg work. Thanks.

    • Popsmoke

Only the Iranians know reality…everyone else is just guessing…or is that analyzing?

      • TeakWoodKite

Sorry Popsmoke, I disagree. After 30 years of observing Iran, no guess is required.
Only the Iranians “know reality” ? That’s is amusliming.
