    Reminds me of the companies like Arthur Anderson that were supposed to provide “independent audits” of companies like Enron. Over time they simply became hired guns who were quite happy to rubber stamp outrageous accounting irregularities in order to keep their contracts. This of course only encouraged the corporate pirates to commit even more ridiculous acts of “creative accounting” until the whole house of cards collapsed on everyone.

      Wish it were the whole house. There was a major paper burning party in that industry. Enron was the only one that got caught.

    Let’s not forget expensive kennels for the dogs of the contracting company’s executives, and lavish parties for the top staff — can’t keep their minds on national security if they have to worry about Rover and a lack of French champagne makes Jack (and Jill) a dull boy.

    I worked at SAIC for about five years in the mid-90s after it bought the small company I’d been working for. The pay and benefits were very good, but it was the only place I ever worked (including the CIA) that I fled in horror once I understood what was going on.
