“2nd Oval Office Readied in White House Rehab Project” (open thread)

I noticed that this is renovation project will take two years and cost taxpayers $376 million. “The government is undertaking extensive work to complete a new executive office for President Obama at the south end of the adjacent Eisenhower Executive Office Building, RCP has learned,” wrote Real Politics in its article, “2nd Oval Office Readied in White House Rehab Project.”

Fox News provided a video about the “bunker-like facility”:

Real Politics added:

The West Wing renovation is the latest phase of a significant project that resulted last year in the completion of a secret bunker-like facility deep underneath the White House driveway. The work also included construction under West Executive Drive, the private lane between the two buildings in the White House complex. The drive is ostensibly used as a VIP entrance for vehicles and as a parking lot.

This summer there will be two Oval Offices in the White House complex, and it won’t be a case of double vision.

“The president’s facsimile Oval Office, created as a nearly identical replica of the most famous ovoid room in the world, is slated to be ready for occupancy by August if Obama is ready to move and if design challenges are resolved. The build-out of the new “West Wing quarters” inside the Eisenhower building has begun, but unforeseen construction hurdles may alter plans for the eventual placement of the new office inside the EEOB, according to several knowledgeable sources.

Get this!

“The timing of Obama’s move to a substitute executive suite is in part dependent on the president’s readiness to begin working in the temporary quarters for what could be as long as two years, sources told RCP. The West Wing phase of a larger, $376 million project begun in September 2010 was put on pause through last year’s election, although funding and contracts were ready, the sources said. If Mitt Romney had won in November, Obama would have handed decisions about whether and how to proceed with the rehab project to his successor, they added.

an investigation was made about him having an illegal alien sex offender working for him but not made public until after the election. maybe if that info had been made public the people of NJ could have made a more informed choice

I read this and thought Hilary is too smart not to know that Benghaziwill matter if she decides to run for president
Does she really believe that it won’t matter?

    • Dbb3

Are you dumb enough to think this fake “scandal” will matter in 4 years?

      • HELENK2

I would hope that the death of four Americans would matter to all Americans no matter how many years later. You prove me wrong

  • buzzlatte3

Geez, I was really hoping the 2nd oval office would be in a jail cell for Mr. SS# is from somewhere he never lived. However, the underground bunker thing sounds eerily like that other guy from 70 years ago.

  • sowsear1

The 2nd Oval Office is for Val-Jar…..

An underground bunker? WHAT ON EARTH FOR? What do they know is coming that we don’t know yet?

      Remember obama saying

“Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet
Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union
      posed a threat to us.”

I am sure all the people looking for work are happy for him because of all the work he’s done for them.

  • HARP2

Does he need more room to store all the skeets he killed ?

    • elizabethrc

Nah, he just needs an underground bunker to hide. Maybe he sees what’s trending out there as people are feeling the effects of his regulations and tax increases.

      • HARP2

He can mount them with all his other trophies.

    • foxyladi14

      lol

    • nickoury

I’ve never done any skeet shooting, but I’m pretty certain you don’t fire on them at ground level as that supposed photo implies. Skeet an aerial target not a ground one.

    • FloridaFI

The Browning Citori Over/Under Shotgun he was
shooting was set up for shooting the upper barrel only – with Gold Plated Browning Invector choke sleeves only inserted in the upper barrel.

This means he was shooting one shot only – as in
Trap Shooting. He was not shooting Skeet!

Or, the Silly Service didn’t trust him with two
loaded barrels in the over/under shotgun.

It is likely that the presidential protective detail felt that up-arming a Chicago citizen with more than one loaded barrel would not be prudent.

BTW, if you soak “Skeets” in milk overnight and then heavily bread prior to frying, they actually come out quite inedible.

      • buzzlatte3

So they’re not as good as clay pigeons?

    • getfitnow

I know next to nothing about guns, but why would somebody be shooting at a skeet at ground level? Anyway…
