John Brennan, Confirmation Open Thread

Today’s performance by Brennan is a true view of the man. He is a human dreidel. Quite an accomplishment for an Irish guy from Jersey.

My fundamental problem with Brennan is that he is the quintessential bureaucratic toady. If your ass is hanging over him, he is a booty licking monster. You ass cheeks will be soft and supple after Brennan finishes kissing your policy derriere. His lips come slathered in political grease.

So, when Bush was President and water boarding was the King, Brennan was on board and a lusty cheerleader. If you watched the hearing to day you had the fun of watching him tap dance his way away from the fact that he had been copied on key emails concerning policy and direction of the so-called enhanced interrogations. He essentially blamed it on “spam.” He was just one small fish in the stream of information.

That’s not how the CIA works. Idiot Senators appeared to buy his bullshit explanation. The CIA still operates by “NEED TO KNOW” rather than “NICE TO KNOW.” What does that mean?

Only people directly involved in the policy or operation are put on the addressee line of an email (or document for that matter). Brennan’s name is on those emails because he was up to his ears in the policy. And he supported it.

But today, in a reversal worthy of a world class gymnast, Brennan did a backflip and assured Senator Levin that former CIA Directors Rodriguez and Mullen were liars, when they claimed that waterboarding was key to getting info out of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. I think you know my opinion. Waterboarding is torture, it is outlawed by the Geneva Convention, we have prosecuted and punished Japanese for such practices and it is not an effective means to gather information.

Brennan’s tenure at the National Security Council is a clear warning of what the CIA will become if he gets the job. While at the National Security Council, Brennan has moved to dramatically restrict who could attend and participate in policy meetings. Why? In order to ensure no leaks that would embarrass the President would get to the public. Only the most loyal and faithful were allowed to attend these meetings. Often times that meant that professionals with substantive expertise were excluded from those sessions.

Brenna is an artful liar. Give him credit for denying having leaked any classified info to reporters even though his fingerprints are all over leaks about the drone program, the assassination of Al Qaeda operatives and the role of Seal Team Six in the killing of Bin Laden. Don’t kid yourself. Brennan is a world class player when it comes to the world of leaking in Washington.

The real danger with Brennan is that he holds no fundamental moral vision of what is right and wrong. Right and wrong in his world is only a function of whether or not it advances his own personal interests. He is a shameful sycophant. We need someone at the helm of the CIA who can protect analysts and sources and methods. But that’s not Brennan. His protection priorities are covering his ass and covering the ass of Obama.

If that’s what you want at the CIA then Brennan is your guy.

LJ, you are a funny guy? Funny how you always classify people by their race, sex, nationality, etc. “Irish guy”? So you have lower expectations for people of Irish origin? Lets see in the last year you have said disparaging things about women, blacks, Jews and now Irish people. Your off-handed comments give us a “true view of” yourself.

Brennan crushes you and your faux CIA credibility and reputation. You have ridden this ex-CIA guy thing for a long time and for financial gain. However, nobody of any real significance really pays attention to you…. but, carry-on with this strange ego-boosting conspiratorial website fully of dead-enders and tinfoil hat wears. Nice way to end your career with this garbage.

Seems to me that there are more “toadies” in D.C. than anywhere else in this country. Although let it be said that “toadies” infest society at every level and not only in politics. However the “toadies” in a factory or law firm do not pose the threat that the Washington Swamp Toadies pose to this country.
Funny how the left excoriated John Bolton for being a “kiss-up/kick-down” kinda guy but just love the same persona when he’s presented for an important post by a liberal. Funny? Maybe not so much.
And media, in their never ending bias, go along.
And JFYI, I didn’t like Bolton either. Just commenting on the endless double standard. Which, JFYI, I don’t like also.
I guess I’m naive, I honestly thought, as a country, as a people, we were better than this. Wrong again.

Can you imagine what would happen to a white
actor said “White people are the most talented people in the world?” The media would be apoplectic.

remember the drone that went down in Iran and backtrack would not give the order to destroy it.
Well the Iranians used it as a prototype to make their own drones. Yesterday they were showing the info they got from the drone. Free gift from backtrack

  • jrterrier

This is awful. It’s as if no one gives a damn about the law. Some recent examples:

    1. The President can order drone attacks on US citizens, without due process of law. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/02/04/confidential-justice-department-memo-killing-american-citizens-with-suspected-terror-ties-ok/

    2. The President doesn’t submit a budget by Feb 1 as required by law for the 3rd straight year. http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-02-04/business/36743409_1_budget-plan-budget-deadline-budget-bill

    3. The Senate doesn’t submit a budget as required by law. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/01/22/why-senate-democrats-havent-passed-a-budget/ (“While the Senate is legally required to pass a budget, there is no penalty for not doing so.” )

    4. Voting officials vote 2 times and think they have done nothing wrong. God help us.

“According to county documents, Richardson’s absentee ballot was accepted on Nov. 1, 2012 along with her signature. On Nov. 11, she told an official she also voted at a precinct because she was afraid her absentee ballot would not be counted in time.

“There’s absolutely no intent on my part to commit voter fraud,” said Richardson. . . .

The board’s documents also state that Richardson was allegedly disruptive and hid things from other poll workers on Election Day after another female worker reported she was intimidated by Richardson. . . .”

During the investigation it was also discovered that her granddaughter, India Richardson, who was a first time voter in the 2012 election, cast two ballots in November.”

That was an interesting article and, I agree, a great job on the part of Sen. Graham. Where is the outrage in the media?

      • KenoshaMarge

MSM is only outraged by Republicans. Or Dems who don’t kowtow to liberal doctrine or Obama consistently and fulsomely.

I could not bring myself to listen to O’s inaugural address. However, I am “virtually” sure that I like this one better than his.

  • no_longer_a_democrat

so, according to liberals, and i used to be one, water-boarding capturred terrorists (not american ones) is not fine, but killing American terrorists is completely fine? (I don’t mean the terrorist alwalkhi, no one is crying over that piece of garbage being killed by a drone, but what about his 15 yr old son? wasn’t he an American citizen? so he’s killed according to Bobby gibbs because his dad was a very bad guy?)

so according to dimocrats, killing Americans on suspicion of being terrorists, a-ok
waterboarding nonamericans terrorrists captured on the battefield to gather info from them, that’s not a-ok.

yep, got it… of course if a repub is president, and that will happen at one point in the future, none of these rules apply.

    • buzzlatte3

Ah you remember being a liberal…logical thinking isn’t really a requirement…knee-jerk responses rule, and liberals always know the “correct” answer. See, I used to be a liberal, too. :)

      • KenoshaMarge

        Me too. Guilty as charged.

        • buzzlatte3

But, praise buddha, we’re in recovery! :)

    • jrterrier

By the way, let’s be clear, only 3 of the captured terrorists were water boarded & all three had been charged with planning 9/11.

      • getfitnow

Notice the expression on That One’s face during the speech. Priceless!

If you get a chance, see “Gifted Hands”. Really good movie, about Dr. Carson, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. I think there’s a book too.

        • HELENK2

backtrack did not look happy. notice he was the only one not applauding

    • KenoshaMarge

I am listening to Dr. Carson’s speech, for the second time, as I type this. To me Obama seems bored. As he usually is when he isn’t the center of attention.
Dr. Carson is all the things that Obama was touted to be. And isn’t!

      • getfitnow

I’ve always admired speakers who can speak softly and gently, yet captivate you with the content of their message.

And cut you off at the knees when they need to.:)

        • KenoshaMarge

Dr. Carson was able to do all that. And more. By making us laugh at some of the silliness in our society he made Obama and his constant political hyperbole also look silly.
Serious people don’t take silly people seriously. I have never understood how anyone could take Joe Biden seriously, let alone vote for him. And only a silly man, a non serious man, would think Biden a competent running mate.

    • DianaLC

We got the wrong man to be the first AA President, that’s for sure. I’d vote for Dr. Carson any day. What an amazing speech. And he knew very well he was going to offend some people listening to him, but how deftly he made sure they couldn’t actually show how offended they were. You’re right. They had to sit there and suck it in.

Hey Mike Rogers you stupid bastard… try these questions….

    • HELENK2

I stole the one from lawfare

  • Popsmoke

Its worse take a look at Mike Rogers…. I just watched his duckspeak on CNN…. What the… Western Task Force is this man thinking? Is this what the FBI has become? So an American has no rights when he leaves this country and so the USG can do as it pleases? On top of that someone tell me where in the directive does is say US soil is off limits?

    • HELENK2

this whole thing is getting worse and worse. When US states have to pass laws forbidding drones, that says a lot.

      • KenoshaMarge

And note that few GOP leaders are condemning the drones. Because after all, when they return to power, and they will in time, they will be able to have that “power”. Neither party is exempt from wanting more and more power.

If we are stupid enough to accept that power just because we belong to a certain party or ideology then we deserve what we get.

    • HELENK2

who decides what is a terrorist group.?
so far this bunch has called
      the tea party terrorist.
      returning veterans a threat
      Republicans the enemy

      • Popsmoke

        Helen,
Its both parties here. Look at Mike Rogers, Chair of House Intel. He is a former FBI agent. He tells CNN that he does not “think” targeted killings will ever happen on US Soil.
Forget no Judicial review…. Forget due process and being tried in absentia and striped of ones citizenship as was done during a few cases during WWII.
This entire directive is just not unconstutional but morally corupt. But that does not seem to bother either Antie Di, the gun control nut, or Uncle Mike, the fudd, Rogers….

        • HELENK2

the swamp gas in DC has affected the brains of people of both parties.

But the party in power at this time does not seem to have a high opinion of American citizens and their rights.

I was not a bush fan either

      • elizabethrc

And didn’t Nancy Pelosi call Republicans terrorists, as well?
And they accuse us of extreme and hateful speech?
I listened to the doctor’s speech as I was driving and was bowled over by it. I’m sure Obama didn’t like the rousing applause the doctor garnered numerous times.
Obama’s takeover of our government may have hit the first of many roadblocks. He can’t be please with the courts not falling into line with his overreaches.
Off topic but someone who knows how to get inside information needs to investigate what is going on within the Dept. of Homeland Security wherein they have purchased what is reported to be billions of hollow point bullets and millions more just recently. I’ve written my Congressman about it but don’t expect that to go anywhere, since he is a Democrat. (I know I’m harping on this, but it’s scaring the daylights out of me).

  • HELENK2

when between the smoke blowing a few questions were asked about the drone targets one that was not asked is what was the reason a 16 year old American was killed. From what I have read his only crime was having the wrong father. It has been printed that backtrack did pick him as a target. That harmed this country.

I remember that you wrote before that Brennan would not be good for the CIA. To me that means he would not be good for America. We are under attack from within and without, I want the best person for the job not political ass kisser.
