Late Nite Open Thread * Hillary’s Debt

Woah. Our Hillary is in a bit of a rush to take care of her debt. And then there’s the very amusing, if shocking, story of how much German soldiers are DRINKING while stationed in Afghanistan!


Can someone who’s good at math figure out roughly how much booze that is per soldier?

Shall we try to raise money for Hillary’s debt? Um, can’t she just write another book and pay it off that way? Can’t Blll do a few speeches and pitch in?

And what else is going on in the world?!?!?!?!?

    When we are talking about Hillary’s debt, who is it owed to? Can she afford to pay it back herself? I don’t know anything about this in case you did not notice. :shock:

    I’m taking refuge in this thread until my post shows up. Too many slugfests going on elsewhere! :mrgreen:

      It is owed to the vendors and I think one of them is Penn, I am fine if he does not get his money. She can’t get back her own money, the deadline for that is past. I wonder what happens to the GE money she transferred to her senate campaign? my $152 is sitting in that lump sum.

        Thanks for the info. Maybe my feelings will change but as of now I am disappointed with her decisions, beginning with choosing to avoid a convention floor fight. I think she owed that to those of us that supported her. However, I don’t hold a grudge. I also think I understand where she is coming from and wish her well but I certainly would not donate any funds at this point.

          Same here. I’m disappointed with her her decisions and just like left her supporters in the cold. her debt? I thought that was the reason she was fighting hard for Obama. I just fear the tim when Obama dumps her under the bus.

        According to Businesweek, out of the 7.5 million she owed as of November, alomst 5.4 million was for Mark Penn. I am also fine if he never sees a cent.

    I was not thrilled when Hillary went out and got donations for the one rather than focusing on this debt. However, what the heck was the PUMA fundraising all about? I thought Will Bower had it paid???

      She put, I think it was $25M, of her own money into the campaign, but she still needs to pay off vendors. She said she doesn’t care about paying off her own loan, but she wants to pay off the vendors.

    And Will Bowers mispoke when he claimed Hillary’s debt was paid down. No one really knows what happened to the money. MY guess is that it went to BHO without us knowing. Remember that was when we didn’t know where our donations would go if we donated?

      Will Bowers made clear that $10 million was raised to clear the debt. If they then decided to spend that money on PUMA or McCain Palin so be it. Adverts are expensive.

    Knowledge is power. I’m still a Democrat but not a liberal. This is going to be a very bumpy ride with many twists and turns and we hope he doesn’t crash and burn, but we have seen Mr. Shifty in action already and it’s scary.

        What a waste. Bobo had more campaign money than he knew what to do with, which included polluting our television airwaves with a prime time Obamarama special, and now Hillary’s desparate for handouts? I know she was doing her duty of sorts, but she went on the campaign trail for Obama and has a premier cabinet position. Now she should pay her debt herself and get on with it.

        where do you get your info?? HRC obeys FEC law, any monies she raised for herself went to that, any monies she raised for Obama went to that, Hillary is very careful about her accounting, the eyes of the world are always on her..

    sorry, but Hillary got all of the money she is getting from me. I supported her throughout her campaign. Instead of working to pay off her debt she was helping Obama. Not another dime.

    Bars staying open all night imagine that, one would think the coming in of a new President to run this country is serious business, but it seems like it a New Years eve all nighter, with folks drunk and passing out in celebration to the new leader.

    Here we are saying we want to restore Americas image to the world, but what kind of image is this that we are showing the world a all night party full of drunk people just because we now have the first black President, yep some image.

    Washington Times – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s team has told the Federal Election Commission that she continued her campaign even after endorsing Democratic presidential rival Barack Obama on June 7, a claim that lets her transfer millions of dollars from her presidential bid to her Senate campaign.

    The former first lady made the $6.4 million transfer from her White House campaign, which remains more than $7 million in debt, to Friends of Hillary on Aug. 28. That date would fall outside the legal deadline for making such a move if her campaign were to have ended June 7.

    Her campaign treasurer told federal regulators that Mrs. Clinton spent more than a quarter-million dollars engaging in “vigorous political activity” throughout June, according to newly released FEC filings.

    “The committee continued to actively contest for delegates at the state and local delegate-selection events during the month of June,” campaign treasurer Shelly Moskwa wrote in a letter to the FEC dated Nov. 20. “Nothing in Senator Clinton’s remarks indicated that she was withdrawing from the race. While she indicated that she was suspending her campaign, the term ‘suspension’ has no legal meaning,” Ms. Moskwa wrote.

    Precisely when Mrs. Clinton, who is expected to be Mr. Obama’s secretary of state nominee, dropped out of the Democratic presidential primaries is emerging as an important legal question for FEC regulators examining the transfer of funds. Such transfers are legal if donors give their permission, and the Clinton campaign has said donors indeed authorized the move.

    Still, such transfers also must take place within 60 days of when a candidate withdraws from the race, according to FEC rules. The Aug. 28 transfer date fell more than 80 days after her June 7 concession to Mr. Obama, in which she told supporters in Washington that “we must elect Barack Obama our president. I endorse him and throw my full support behind him.”

    Given Mrs. Clinton’s concession speech in early June, the FEC has raised questions about the timing of the Aug. 28 transfer, sending a letter to the Clinton campaign last month asking for more details.

    I did send an e-mail to “Friends of Hillary” asking about the transfer, and have not gotten any reply. One part of the above article mentioned that 5.3 millon of her debt is owed to the PA organization who handled her campaign! I hope someone can explain to us how that firm is worth payments of over 5.3 million…all things considered.

    Hillary Clinton sank everything she had into the cmpaign. Bill Clinton cannot legally pay her debt off for her. I don’t like Penn either, but she has to pay him off. According to several articles I have read, Obots and Republicans will use this debt to derail her confirmation to Secretary of State. It has to be paid before she can be sworn in. That is why there is such a hurry to do this.

    Yes, that asshole Obama took everything Hillary had and gave nothing back. SHe probably ashould have spent the last several mnonths raising money to pay her own debt instead of adding to Obama’s already overfull coffers. Obama was and is greedy, but Hillary did exactly what she said she would, she sorked her tail off to elect a Democrat. SHe has never siad she would do anything else.     Obots and other sufferers of CDS will go to any length to destroy her chances for this. Hillary CLinton has earned our rspect and support. If she is deprived of SOS, who do you think we will bet? McCaskill? Richardson? Kerry? I mean, really, Hillary CLinton stands head and shoulders above anyone else in this country as SOS material and I really do not want to know who is second choice.

    I have pledged after the horror of election 2008 that I give no more money to campaigns. Ever. I supported my senatorial candidate here in MN, Al franken for the past 2 years because I was a dem. Now I don’t know what I am anymore and after a monthly pledge to Franken’s campaign, I am pulling for Coleman really. i do not want the demos to have so much power. I gave the most money I ever have to Clinton and Franken. Got stuck with Odrama and now don’t like any dems. What do I do anymore? Well, no more money. I will not help Hillary pay of her debts. She played politician when she should have stood up for women’s rights and democracy. Why are all of these people willing to throw democracy out for Odrama? He is so not worth it. I don’t understand and now have no politicians I can believe in. They can play politics and get their debt paid that way. Maybe Hil and bill can make a deal with Odrama, we won’t tell the dirt we know if you pay off our debt. I don’t know. The one thing I do know is zero money from this girl for any campaign.

    Indeed, it appears as if we were given faulty information about Hillary’s debt back in June.

    Our sources included a relative of Hillary and a high ranking member of her finance team. We felt it was safe to trust the information we were given.

    It’s still not clear to us as to what the shell game was regarding those numbers.

I have been disappointed at Hillary since she decided not to fight for the nomination, instead she becomes the main cheerleader for O. Why didn’t she work a deal where “O” Pelosi, Dean and Brazile would have to pay her debt in return for her campaigning to get “O” elected?
