Syria and the US – Another Take
2003. Russia upset with the US since we blew up their Kirkuk–Baniyas pipeline, a crude oil pipeline from the Kirkuk oil field in Iraq to the Syrian port of Baniyas Whoops. During our invasion we hit your pipey. Oh, so sorry. The pipeline was to be reconstructed by Stroytransgaz, a subsidiary of Gazprom, Russian companies. It did not happen.. Remember that event. Everyone there did.
Fast forward to 2010. Iriqi president Jalal Talabani tells the US to speed up their withdrawal of troupes after the West confronts him over his plan to sign a deal with Assad to not only rebuild the pipeline but to double it – one for heavy oil and another for light, with the capacity to pick up more in the Syrian NE oil fields along the way to the port. The Russian companies can do this. What does the Western Oil Company coalition do?
Love the leaks. UN documents show approval of Oil industry funding and arming of outsiders to go into Syria to disrupt this pipeline, in order to weaken Syria. The “rebels” took over Syrian oil fields. The brutal dictator president did not like this. He fought back. The oil folks forgot to tell the paid ‘rebels’ that they should not take residence in hotels and inns at the towns near the oil fields. – opps. Bad dictator attacked the places the paid bad guys were staying and killed anyone in his way. Bad dictator. Bad situation.
2011. Talabani tells NATO to not just take the troupes but just get out all together because the West told him they did not like the deal he was about to sign. This is a big problem, not just for the oil companies, but for anyone not wanting to fund Iran. Since the Iraqi’s and Syrian’s were already building this big pipeline then why not let Iran piggyback and run their natural gas line from Northern Iran to the connection point in Northern Iraq and follow the line across Syria to the coast. Oh, my. That was the last straw. Need to recruit more troops from around the region to come into Syria. Remember. Do not tell them where to hide. They will go into towns and Assad will attack the towns. Assad will look bad. Good plan.
2012. The gangs start winning. Assad goes nuts and starts bombing and starts winning. Oil man rep calls the West. Obama, for some odd reason, draws a red line.
2013. Assad still winning. Red line crossed. Oil companies smiling in many governmental back rooms as Obama is backed into the corner between credibility and the Nobel.
Today. Anyone’s guess. Russian backed Assad with a history of horror. Oil backed rebels with ties to terrorism. Who knows. Maybe Randy Newman is a genius of the absurd.
