Funny, isn’t it? You don’t hear Piers Morgan or the other anti-gun nuts up decrying the ready availability of actual assault rifles in East Africa. The attack on Saturday on a upscale Mall in Nairobi was a nifty reminder that Islamic radicals are still alive and well and capable of mayhem. As they flooded into the Mall and unleashed terror on unsuspecting, shocked shoppers, they did not face the threat of conceal carry gun owners facing them down.
Just imagine if this scenario unfolded in one of our states, say Florida or Texas, where conceal carry is common and welcomed. I will guarantee you that the death toll among the innocents would not be as high. We live, unfortunately, in a world where bad people can get their hands on weapons of destruction. It is incumbent on the good people to arm themselves in order to defend their loved ones and their neighbors. A lesson we forget oft times here in the relative safety of the United States.
Then there is the matter of the horror of Islam. While I do not blame the vast majority of muslims for this madness, they must acknowledge that their religion-more so than any other faith–encourages and rewards those who engage in murder and hatred. If Islam wants to be taken seriously as a great religion then it is incumbent on the imams of various mosques to condemn as one this type of insanity.
Christianity had its own bloody period of horror during the crusades (11th thru 13th Century), but finally came to its senses. Mass murder in the name of Deity was no longer embraced as a central tenet of the faithful. Not so with Islam.
Especially among the Sunnis, this type of fanaticism blossoms like a rotting corpse, death flower. It taints the air of civilization. Going forward over the next few months I think we can expect to see an upsurge of military strikes into Somalia directed at camps and training facilities linked to Al Shabab. There is no negotiating here. We must kill them. It is that simple.
